A 500 year old immortal god-king with no love for the surface world, discovers his soulmate is a surfacer, kills her mom, and is potentially punished, or should I say BLESSED, with eternal love for her.
An agnostic/atheist princess whose soulmate is the god who killed her mother, and is potentially punished, or again BLESSED, with eternal love for him.
They both could fall for the person they should hate/not be with or can’t be with , and yet they’re what the other needs to heal.
As if chaac and bast said, “if you want love, it’ll be fiery and passionate, but INCREDIBLY difficult and painful. Almost unbearable, both while you’re together and apart. If you work for it, you will feel eternal bliss.”
It’s poetic, it’s beautiful, it’s Shakespearean (maybe? Idk wakanda forever feels really Shakespearean to me)? and I am falling apart daily.
Title: Then I’ll Persuade You
Author: WomanOf1000Faces
Canon: Black Panther | MCU
Pairing: Shuri/Namor
Rating: Teen [🍋]
Word Count: 4,464
Summary: Instead of going along with Nakia’s rescue, Shuri stays in Talokan a little longer, and manages to change things for the better.
Recommendation: Comment Hiatus ~ A partial hiatus in that I’ll post a rec but I won’t do the write up because I’m really…
Thinking of Wakanda Forever and how Shuri could even begin to forgive Namor.
I think she’s only gonna start to see him in a kinder light again if he does something major. And I think that major thing would be to save her nephew in some way. I think if he saved her she’d still be irritated with him. If he saves her only remaining blood relative though? The only living thing connected to her brother? Now THAT’S gonna prompt some real change.
Just her panicking over little Toussaint, fearing that she’s going to lose him too. Maybe he got kidnapped or ended up lost somewhere and while she’s panicking and already in grief the little boy shows up with Namor. And he’s clearly been looked after too. Maybe he excitedly tells his Auntie how that rescue went 😅 And look! I got toy! And the toys is a panther figurine made from jade. Idk I’m just spewing out whatever during break lol 😆 But anyways, those are my thoughts. I think Shuri’s gonna be more impressed/forgiving if Namor saves Toussaint.
Refreshing the bp:wf fics on ao3 about 3 times a day rn. if yall see my comments and kudos plz know it's because yall are ridiculously talented. and highly distracting. plz its finals season at college and yall are destroying me (in a good way). Ive used this app daily for 2 years but the meta, namor/shuri, gut punching depictions of grief have me making my first post in over a year🧍🏻♂️
What if Namor accepted Shuri's offer to stay in Talokan, in return for Riri's life? What if Nakia still came to rescue Shuri and Riri, but Shuri chose to stay behind? What if Namor and Shuri realized there was only one way to ensure their kingdoms didn't go to war against each other?

Summary:
The internal validity (or weakness) of the plan to marry and breed with Namor would be if the God would even honor this agreement of not killing Riri if Shuri gave him what he wanted: her. Men have told bigger lies to get laid.
If he goes back on his word, I will kill him myself. A part of Shuri said. A part she didn’t recognize, a part that awakened in her after her brother died.

she is what causes it.
You can’t just associate Shuri with fire. You can’t just use it to represent her and her emotions. You can’t just have that be the thing that Namor latches onto, the thing he relates to and wants to nurture, “let’s burn it together.” Then later reveal that FIRE is his weakness. The Immortal God King is weak to FIRE. WEAK TO SHURI. You can’t just do that and not expect me to have a MELT DOWN over it.
ON TOP OF THAT, her being associated with the SUN. The sun being the hand gesture of Namor’s people, Namor literally and figuratively saying, “I brought the sun to my people.” You can’t just have her rip off Namor’s wings like the sun melted Icarus’s and then burn/melt him with fire.
Both crazy popular fan shippings that MCU actors have acknowledged and teased at, but never confirmed onscreen . Also popular bc it’s perceived to represent marginalized peoples (POCs, LGBTQ community) in a more positive and nuanced way. And the biggest criticism against both these pairings is that one half of the couple directly killed lots of innocent people.
(Honestly I’m still unsure about Namor/Shuri. During their time in Talokan I absolutely shipped them ❤️. But him later killing her remaining family INTENTIONALLY AND WITH 0 REMORSE — unlike Bucky — is a major turn-off for me. What’s worse is that he taunts her for it. Not to mention he’s hellbent on killing an innocent girl (Riri), who didn’t realize she was putting Talokan at risk and wanted to set things right.
At most I ship Namor/Shuri as one-sided on Namor’s part, with Shuri either rejecting him or in denial of her own feelings. Like Kylo/Rey or Phantom/Christine or Goblin King/Sarah. I seriously doubt MCU Namor/Shuri will be a straight enemies-to-lovers trope. I think MCU will have them switch back and forth constantly between enemies and lovers. Think Joker/Harley Quinn or Batman/Catwoman.)
