see brucas have insane chemistry and actually did things right this time by being really good friends who got to know each other and felt amazing in one another's company, but with this miscommunication bullshit and nonexclusivity agreement that was poorly thought out and the general lack of stability they're clearly not going to last long. and the fact that lucas ended up marrying peyton and rachel literally brought up peyton during their conversation about "the one" just makes all of this even more stupid

People are going to come for Joy and maybe Hilarie again for their comments about how Nathan should get over his issues with Haley already. Joy has defended Nathan more than a couple of times in season 2 and her character gets virtually no room to explore her emotions but Nathan got episode after episode. So I hope people cut her some slack! Joy sincerely shares her opinions and forgets she’s being judged by listeners.
And it is tough to hear Nathan tell Haley he’s looking into a divorce but they have to be separated for a year. Yet he adds maybe they won’t get a divorce depending on how things are with them in that time. It puts Haley in such a tough spot and it’s hard to watch because we as viewers know she ultimately gave up her dream college AND career to be with him and support his dreams. Even in season 2 she was going to do everything she could so he could go to High Flyer’s, never once asking him to worry about her. Nathan gives grander speeches on the show but he does not have to give up anything for their relationship and certainly never to make Haley’s dreams come true. It’s also tough when you know Haley forgives him like THAT over and over again!

how do you think forwood wouldve gone if the writers were brain dead pussies with no backbones
i know candice was julies little bitch dog which is why she never left the show for longer than 2 episodes but i always liked the idea of caroline going with tyler whenever he left town the way she was supposed to at the end of s3
this way klaus' attention couldve gone to someone more interesting (COUGH) Bonnie
then when tyler and caroline come back it turns out they got married Naley style
that’s a fun question.
A big Forwood problem outside of Klaus is that we aren’t seeing enough of Tyler’s side. I think seeing on screen and having Caroline go with Tyler would’ve been great. Tyler hated who he was in s1 and coming into his werewolf side and working with wolves/hybrids is how he began to change along with Caroline's support. The thing is if they can give a full werewolf related arc to Hayley in TO they could've did more with Tyler's. He wasn't a main character but a peak at what's doing while he isn't in MF wouldn't have hurt. The Lockwoods was the introduction to werewolves and without Tyler, you don't Hayley's arc or Klaus. The Lockwoods were apart of the world building and just tossed aside. It’s infuriating.
That being said, I think Forwood would’ve been fine longterm with Caroline seeing and being able to understand what was going on with Tyler. She was supportive of him vice-versa all the time. It’s somewhere on my blog but yeah Forwood is very Naley-coded pre-Klaus that is they definitely would’ve been the type to sneak off and get married.
You just reminded me of a one shot I didn’t finish about Forwood being detectives on if Klonnie is a thing. But, in Julie’s world Bonnie can date her pseudo step-brother before she ever dated a villain/character people care about.

I’m now on s4 of OTH…yall….
Chad Michael Murray I will forever be in your walls 😭. The S2 and S3 development of brucas was amazing and to have it taken away in one ep was horrid 😭. I read that brucas was supposed to be endgame and I believe it. I was team leyton in S1 but to see both Lucas and peyton have beautiful relationships with other people (I miss Jake so bad oh my god), S4 is just not convincing me they’re endgame. I hate what they’ve done with Brooke’s character this season and Peyton’s. Peyton does not need a savior let alone Lucas saving her every five min 😭. Where is the balance 😭. Best part of her arc this season was her brother helping her heal. The highlight has been naley (the loan shark arc I canttttt). See I do think leyton deserves a chance or they would always wonder what could’ve been, but I really don’t believe they love each other more than Lucas loved Brooke and Peyton loved Jake. I don’t believe it 😭. Maybe chad and Hilarie knew it too idk😭. Just my thoughts!

I have a confession to make. Nathan and Haley have dethroned Pacey and Joey as my favorite TV couple ever. Pacey and Joey are second favorite and I will adore them forever. I think the main reason I put Naley first is because I like the way their plotlines played out better. And that's not Jacey's fault. Josh and Katie put their entire hearts and souls into Jacey... it's just the shitty writers' faults for shafting Jacey for way too much time. The Dawson's Creek writers wasted so much time on Dawson and Joey and mistreated Jacey during all of S5 and most of S6. The One Tree Hill writers realized the gold they had with Naley and they capitalized on it.
It's interesting cause One Tree Hill had a similar dynamic to Dawson and Joey in Lucas and Haley. Both were friends since childhood, Dawson's parents were like parents to Joey and in much the same way Lucas' mom was like a second mom to Haley. Lucas and Haley didn't usually sleep in the same bed but they did occasionally. But the main difference is that unlike the DC writers, the OTH writers smartly knew never to cross the romantic line with Lucas and Haley. There is never so much as a hint that their relationship may be more than friends. The word soulmate is never used for Lucas and Haley. And lastly Nathan and Haley's relationship is never shafted for Lucas and Haley. In fact, Lucas and Haley grow slightly farther apart. They remain friends but Haley has a husband and eventually a son and daughter so it makes sense that they wouldn't spend all their time together.
Another similarity is that with both Dawson/Joey and Lucas/Haley... Both Dawson and Lucas were upset with Joey and Haley respectively for dating Pacey and Nathan respectively. But with OTH, Lucas was upset because Nathan was his enemy and he was upset that his best friend was dating his enemy. Also Lucas was being a bit protective so it wasn't entirely about his ego. The Dawson's Creek writers shoehorned in a shitty romantic triangle. Dawson was being a territorial abusive psycho when it came to Joey. I think the way that OTH did that dynamic was just as interesting to watch but far less infuriating. Also Lucas came around and became extremely close to Nathan. He also supported Haley's decision almost from the beginning (even though it upset him) because he wanted her to be happy. Dawson was a complete selfish son of a bitch who refused to ever completely forgive his own friend Pacey.
So to recap both Naley and Jacey have insane chemistry that never diminished during the entirety of the show, S3 of Jacey is some of the best TV couple writing i've ever seen, both were endgame and had incredible actors who supported or fought for their character's endgame. But Naley pulls a little forward because the writers clearly adored them and never truly did them dirty. The writing and plots were more consistently great for Naley and they were a really healthy couple. Not that they never had issues but they communicated really well and dealt with their issues with therapy. But I will always defend Jacey because they deserved better writers who were in their corner. I will always say that Jacey was a very healthy couple as well but near the end of S4 they needed to communicate a bit better and they both respectively needed therapy but the writers were never gonna give those characters good therapy unfortunately. Everyone should watch Dawson's Creek if for no other reason than for Jacey.
Edit. Also if you haven't seen One Tree Hill, please record your reactions and put them on Patreon. I want to pay you to live vicariously through you! lol

I loved your tags on that naley reblog about their natural chemistry and wanted to challenge you to name five pairings you think have UNnatural/forced chemistry! Chemistry is so subjective that there are no wrong answers :)
Girl I try not to hate on any ship ever but since it's a challenge imma take it :) you're right, there are no wrong answers but these are gonna be controversial so read at your own risk
1. Harry & Ginny (Harry Potter)
It's obvious. What the fuck was the shoelace? Why did they not give a shit about the main character's main love interest? I love them in the book but the movies failed to give the butterflies!
2. Tessa & Hardin (After)
Just... no. No amount of montages can fix the glaring lack of chemistry. The book made me mad so I already didn’t have a high opinion on them, but their movie scenes had me BORED.
3. JJ and Kiara (Outer Banks)
They do have chemistry, as they're very comfortable and combative with each other... I just don't see the romantic chemistry sorry 😭 they come off as just besties to me. And the way the entirety of S3 "realizing feelings" period was basically miscommunication as romantic tension kind of didn’t help changing my opinion. But I did love some of their romantic scenes in S3 so I guess they can win me over?
4. Frank & Julie (The OC)
Oh dear God. This is my biggest pet peeve about the entire show. They were supposed to be the "true love" choice while Bullit was the "safe choice" but it was like??? Like, sometimes I hate a character and am like "no but they're cute with x" but this time the closer he got to Julie the more I hated him lol, it was literally like negative chemistry. Just a mess.
5. Betty & Jughead (Riverdale)... after Season 1
It kinda hurts me to admit because I loved them in Season 1. That first love energy was immaculate. But then in the later seasons they got so stale and stiff 😭

tbh i’m kind of excited by the spelivia break-up? don’t get me wrong, it is very sad and frustrating but it reminds me a lot of the break up/break that naley had in s2/s3 of oth because nathan similarly didn’t wanna hold haley back from her music dreams and the scenes when they were finding their way back from that (nathan calling haley as she walks away, “stay with me tonight”, “i was still proud of you everyday”, rain kiss, etc) were some of the best they’ve ever had! and the most rewarding to watch. so i can just imagine what some of those scenes would look like for spencer and liv and i can’t wait for them!

Two ships meme - brucas or leyton? Rachel/Ross or Rachel/Joey? Dair or Carter/Serena?
Brucas or Leyton? I personally prefer Naley over both but if I had to choose, Leyton purely for the stelena parallels and cute moments. Brucas, while I do think there’s chemistry, Brooke deserves so much better than Lucas Scott. Then again, any woman does lol.
Roschel or Roey? Roey! At first, I used to be Roschel af (preferred mondler tho, still do) and though roey was weird but now I’ve gotten more into Roey. They’re just so cute and pure. Joey actually seemed to love and respect Rachel whereas Ross was an asshat about her having a fashion career in s3 because of his own insecurities.
Dair or Vanderbaizen? Now this is hard because I ship them both like fedex and want them both to be endgame. Maybe dair, for the enemies to lovers thing but I also feel like vanderbaizen had that too. For now, I’ll pick dair but my mind may change lol.

What’s your favorite naley scene or arc ? And favorite character development of any character in general?
so far, in this rewatch, my favorite naley scene is definitely when she goes to whitey to fight for nathan and he goes to principal turner to fight for haley. that was so freaking precious.
i don't really know if i have a favorite arc for them, other than finding their way back to each other in s3 but i feel like that's such a generic naley answer xD
favorite character development? i mean.... is there any answer except brooke davis? s1 brooke davis was very sexually active, she partied way too much, and she let other people (mainly boys) define who she was. by the time s4 wrapped up, she'd grown into someone so respectable! there's a reason why lucas wrote, "she'd grown more in 2 years than anyone i had ever met. brooke davis is gonna change the world some day." i feel that quote and i 100% agree 🥰

So I've been reading your superb Brucas posts and LOVED your choices for your three favorite scenes (82 letters, Pretty Girl/Crazy Girl, and obviously the rain speech is epic!) But I have to nominate the S2 scene where Lucas surprises Brooke, aka the girl behind the red door, with a new home in OTH. Lucas: "I wasn't ready to lose you." Brooke: "I wasn't ready to be lost." Me: *cries for all of eternity* I so enjoyed your followers' UOs about OTH and your responses to them. I guess my biggest unpopular opinion is that S2 is my favorite of the series - it's amazing seeing Brucas as an actual couple for most of S3 and nice to see Naley officially reunited, but S2 highlights this really unique, special connection Brooke and Lucas have as they get to know each other on a deeper level. They have such an emotional, soulful connection - S2 forever dispels the myth that Brucas is just about fun and sexual attraction. Jeyton also makes S2 special to me. Just as Brooke makes Lucas so much happier (and likable!) by taking him out of his head and Lucas grounds Brooke and lets her be more serious, vulnerable, etc., Jake makes Peyton SO much happier and more likable to me than she is at any other point in the series, while Peyton brings out the side of naturally sweet, conflict averse Jake who's ready to fight (for custody, for what he believes in) etc. The fact that these two pairings weren't endgame is TV malpractice!!! And I'll be even more unpopular by adding that while I get why Naley fans dislike S2 and I do enjoy Naley together, Nathan is at his most layered and interesting this season because they're apart, and their angst also gives us some of Bethany Joy Lenz's most perfect acting. Add in some of the most hilariously campy Dan scenes and the fact that overall I like Breyton's dynamic in S2 a lot more than I do any other season, and S2 is just my special favorite. Bet you'll never guess who this is ;)
Hey! Thanks for the message and I agree, painting the red door should be on that list, I just didn't think of it at the time, which sometimes happens when I make lists ;)
I also understand why season 2 would be your favourite season for all of the reasons you just said -- I especially like their connection through her campaign, I'm not sure if you've seen my reviews of the show during my rewatch -- there is a lot of great Brucas content in season 2 and the most I believe Breyton is in that season as well and of course Jeyton.
It's also interesting rewatching season 2 Naley because out of all of the storylines, it's the one that feels the most immediate to me, like, with Brucas and Jeyton, I think because I've spoken a lot about them and how they don't end up together, I just watch it and keep going, you undid all of this for LEYTON so I'm just prepared for the inevitable whereas with Naley, while I know everything is going to work out with them, Haley's motivations bother me and so I watch it like, I know it's all going to work out but I don't think I would stick around if I was Nathan because Haley is pretty shitty in season 2 because she is the one who made it music or Nathan, Nathan was entirely supportive of the whole thing, he just didn't like Chris, which is fair so I watch it like I forgot how much I hated Haley this season, haha.

How would you rank all nine OTH seasons from favorite to least favorite, no ties? S3 is my favorite but I have the fairly UO of loving S2 and S5 almost as much :)
1.) Season 3 (It's not close for me. This is easily the strongest season and OTH at its best. The show never came close to reaching the same heights again)
2.) Season 1 (In contrast to later seasons, this was a very down to earth era where everything happened organically rather than for drama or as a response to fan criticism. Watching the first season almost feels like reading a book. It all feels very well planned out and like everything that happens from the beginning is pretty much inevitable)
3.) Season 2 (The most underrated and unfairly hated season. It's literally just about Brucas, right? Even Naley fans admit that while they didn't like seeing their couple separated that the tour made for good angst and drama. But because Lucas decided he wanted Brooke instead of Peyton, oftentimes the entire season is written off even though there was so much solid character work and relationship development going on during this season. Admittedly, the loss of basketball and the soap opera tone particularly with Dan weren't the strongest aspects, but season 2 is far more good than bad)
4.) Season 4 (I have a lot of complicated feelings about season 4 and mostly find myself frustrated with the first eight episodes but once I get past that, season 4 is overall pretty great. The highs pretty much carry the season and make you forget that the lows are pretty terrible)
5.) Season 6 (Honestly, seasons 5 and 6 are practically equal for me. The reason I lean towards season 6 is that season 5 has more off putting plot points and story lines. Like, the Carrie arc. I also can't tolerate the Lucas/Peyton/Lindsey love triangle with Lucas being desperate to get married regardless of who ends up being the bride. It's exhausting, and nearly ruins Lucas's character. Season 6 at least puts a stop to the Carrie arc five episodes in and has Lucas settle down with Peyton. Otherwise, everything going on is pretty solid aside from the Mouth and Millie garbage. Nathan's comeback, the Brooke/Sam arc, seeing Brooke fall in love again, Quentin's death, Naley in general, the small amount we get of Haley's musical aspirations, etc)
6.) Season 5 (As stated before, season 5 is almost equal to season 6 for me. It does a solid job setting up the adult years and reestablishing the characters and their dynamics. Brooke is at her best in a lot of ways. I loved seeing Brooke and Lucas grow close again. Nathan and Haley come out of their separation and marital problems stronger than ever)
7.) Season 7 (It's not my favorite season, but I think both Haley's depression arc and Nathan being accused of having an affair baby are both strong story lines that center the entire show. Alex is a fun, new character, standing out to me over Clay and Quinn. Everything else is mostly underwhelming)
8.) Season 9 (The final season is pretty much carried by the return of Dan, Nathan's kidnapping, and nothing else. Who asked for Xavier to come back? Who asked for fatphobic writing? As cute as Logan was, Clay didn't need to forget an entire child. At least Chris Keller was there and Haley was allowed to be a badass)
9.) Season 8 (It's mostly a filler season. None of the story lines are great. I wouldn't call this a bad season. Compared to later seasons Riverdale, season 8 of OTH deserved an Emmy. But it's mostly just a lot of fluff and plots that don't actually matter. I can appreciate it only because 22 episode+ seasons are starting to become a rarity, but season 8 is no one's favorite or go-to season)
