Highlights of New Spring so far:
- Lan thinking southerners are so fucking rude and having to get into the Void to deal with it.
- AAN’ALLEIN!!!
- Moiraine’s big fat crush on Suian.
- He is born again! I feel him! The Dragon takes his first breath on the slope of Dragonmount! He is coming! He is coming! Light help us! Light help the world! He lies in the snow and cries like the thunder! He burns like the sun!
- Yeah that’s my boy :’)
- Gitara dropping dead Just Like That. Add that one to your list, Rand.
- You’ll make the Hall in a hundred years! Amyrlin in fifty after that! aka Moiraine not foreseeing the Strange Case of Amyrlins Dropping Like Flies.
- Moiraine being like “oh I will only have to hide this for a day or two tops” try 20 years girl.
- Tamra’s scheme to find the Baby Dragon? Is so? Nonsensical? When you don’t know what’s up? Like, really? That’s what you’re going with?? Okay I guess props to you for the boldness of it.
- Hey I know that name! And I know that name! And I know that name and... DARKFRIEND ALERT.
- Tho I guess she ain’t a Darkfriend yet.
PFFT writing this post I realized somehow Chapter 10 got queued up right after 3 (yeah I’m doing the audiobook. Didn’t realize I’d missed Michael and Kate reading to me but I did) and nothing about that shocked me like one moment Moiraine and Siuan are practicing the next they’re being tested and we didn’t even get to see the quest for the Baby Dragon??? - Long story short I’m a dumbass.
Luckily for me I didn’t go farther than that chapter and it’s not like I got spoiled anyway lol that ship has long sailed and sunk to the bottom of the Aryth Ocean wich brings me to my next highlight which is actually just one more piece of dramatic irony which is:
- Siuan craving adventures and “as soon as I get the shawl I’m outta here and I’ll have adventures explore the world and do you think there are great cities on the other side of the Aryth Ocean? Do you Moiraine???? Do you think there are Towers over there *wink wink*????
- Myrelle and Moiraine friendship! I mean I vaguely remembered that they were friends but it’s good to witness that firsthand because, you know, the Lan thing. Is a bit iffy even tho I totally get why she does it. I feel a bit better about it knowing that she’s an actual friend she trusts (unless she’s been ordered not to lol, don’t be pissed Myrelle, it’s nothing against you) and not just that slutty green she knows of . Not that there’s anything wrong about that. She’s saving lives with her sluttiness!
- Moiraine and trouts bring A Thing.

Anaiya had more questions, for both women, and so did Carlinya and Sheriam, who apparently had been novices and Accepted with the pair. They were all about the sort of thing no impostor would be able to learn, scrapes gotten into, pranks successful and not, opinions generally held of various Aes Sedai teachers. Min could not believe that the women who would become the Amyrlin Seat and the Keeper of the Chronicles could have dropped themselves into the soup so often, but she had the impression that this was only the tip of a buried mountain, and it appeared that Sheriam herself might not have been far behind them. Myrelle, the youngest by years, confined herself to amused comments, until Siuan said something about a trout put into Saroiya Sedai's bath and a novice taught to mind her ways for half a year. Not that Siuan had much room to talk of anyone minding her ways. Washing a disliked Accepted's shifts with itchweed when she was a novice? Sneaking out of the Tower to go fishing? Even Accepted needed permission to leave the Tower grounds except during certain hours. Siuan and Leane together had even chilled a bucket of water to near freezing and set it so it would douse an Aes Sedai who had had them switched, unfairly as they saw it. From the glint in Anaiya's eyes, it was a good thing for them that they had not been found out that time. From what Min knew of novice training, and Accepted for that matter, these women were lucky that they had been allowed to remain long enough to become Aes Sedai, much less that they still had whole hides.
The Fires of Heaven, chapter 26 “Sallie Daera”.
So Siuan was not the only one who played pranks using fish. I wonder if she suggested it to Myrelle?
(Myrelle being described as “the youngest by years” seems to be an inconsistency. In New Spring she’s friends with Sheriam and described as having been made Accepted the same year as Moiraine and Siuan. According to the Companion she’s the same age as Sheriam and Carlinya - a couple of years younger than Leane and a few older than Siuan).

RJ’s notes Part 21 by TEREZ
Myrelle Berengari.
R. Green Ajah.
[stuff in books]
Warders: [...]
Lan Mandragoran: His bond passed to her with Moiraine's disappearance/"death". This arrangement was made between Moiraine and Myrelle, in contravention of custom for the past 400 years, without Lan's prior knowledge. She had agreed to pass that bond on to Nynaeve "when Nynaeve achieved the shawl and was ready." She made a great effort to force Nynaeve to readiness when she felt the bond pass to her, and she objected to sending Lan on to Nynaeve because she didn't think Nynaeve was ready for any Warder, much less a man in Lan's fragile, volatile, and dangerous state.
[...]
Head the Green Ajah among the rebels. L40. This is largely because they recognize her organizational-managerial-command skills. Among Greens, these count in many ways as much as or more than strength or skill in the Power; at least to the extent that you can be not very strong at all, but if you have good leadership abilities, or good managerial or organizational skills, you will find yourself moving up the hierarchy in the Greens, and the Greens do have a very well defined hierarchy, organized much like military rank, though without titles. Every Green knows in her head the roughly pyramidal chart of who ranks where. You can be recommended for promotion up the chart, promoted or demoted, according to your performance as evaluated by those above you. You can be leaped over others already ahead of you, or dropped as far as the bottom tier from any height, though either is uncommon.
In truth, because of the scheme to control events being run by the Ajahs other than Red and Blue, Myrelle and the other sisters who accepted positions as "head" of their Ajah in exile are all in some trouble back in the Tower,
Pg 90
internal Ajah trouble that has nothing to do with the rebellion. The choices were made by the sisters as a whole, who did not know of the scheme by the upper ranks of the Ajahs.
[...]
Myrelle "knew" that Moiraine was dead as soon as she felt Lan's bond pass to her. If nothing else, this would be when she suddenly became "aware" of him.
She didn't know Lan's feelings for Nynaeve until they were revealed to her by Egwene, though she thought that explained a good deal. Both she and Nisao initially thought any such feelings must be on Nynaeve's part alone, that no one could captured [sic] Lan's heart because of his dedication to his one-man war.
She promised to pass his bond on to Nynaeve when N became Aes Sedai and was ready for a Warder. Nynaeve has been raised to Aes Sedai faster than any of them expected; now Nynaeve is not there, and in any case, Myrelle does not think Lan is any shape to be handed over to a young and inexperienced Aes Sedai who is not at all ready to handle something like him.
Myrelle took Lan to her bed; this was to last until she had begun making him think of life again, to however small a degree, it being her belief that fucking makes you center on life rather than death. She had to use the bond to compel him, sometimes, which she found both odd and somewhat insulting.
NOTE: Unlike the situation with Moiraine, where she and Myrelle prepared things so that the bond would pass at Moiraine's death, Myrelle and Nynaeve will have to be together for his bond to be passed between them. He does not have to be there, but I think Nynaeve insists on it, which Myrelle will approve of, though she will be the one who says he doesn't have to etc as a test.
The discovery by Egwene and Siuan of the situation with Lan led to Myrelle and Nisao being forced to swear fealty to Egwene personally.

Nynaeve caught the woman's arm. "I have never thanked you," she said, though she had to grit her teeth to get the words out. "I do so now. He lives because of you. I realize that. However, Myrelle, this is not a time to push me. Today, I have seen people I love slaughtered, I have been forced to consign children to living torment. I have been burned, scourged and harrowed. I swear to you, woman, if you do not pass me Lan's bond this very moment, I will step into that tent and teach you the meaning of obedience. Do not press me. In the morning, I swear the Three Oaths. I'm free of them for one more night."

WHY ARE GREENS SO SKETCHY. ALANNA, JOLINE, MYRELLE. ALL SKETCHY!!
Weeeeell, the only one that has no defending points, aside from one certain event, is Joline. Alanna is a very complicated character and Myrelle..if not for her, Lan would have gone to the Blight as soon as Moiraine died. She used what she thought would keep him alive as Nynaeve was nowhere near ready during FoH. That does not mean I liked it. I tend to not judge characters in books based on other POV but their own. Though if I had all three in front of me they would get some kind of educative lesson on what Aes Sedai means, especially of the Green Ajah.

"If there is a chance I might be given like a pet lapdog, I would at least like to know to whom I am being given." "I have never seen you as a pet," Moiraine said sharply, "and neither does Myrelle. " "Myrelle." He grimaced. "Yes, she would have to be Green, or else some slip of a girl just raised to full sisterhood." "If Myrelle can keep her three Gaidin in line, perhaps she has a chance to manage you. Though she would like to keep you, I know, she has promised to pass your bond to another when she finds one who suits you better." "So. Not a pet but a parcel. Myrelle is to be a - a caretaker! Moiraine, not even the Greens treat their Warders so. No Aes Sedai has passed her Warder's bond to another in four hundred years, but you intend to do it to me not once, but twice!" "It is done, and I will not undo it." "The Light blind me, if I am to be passed from hand to hand, do you at least have some idea in whose hand I will end?" "What I do is for your own good, and perhaps it may be for another's, as well. It may be that Myrelle will find a slip of a girl just raised to sisterhood - was that not what you said? – who needs a Warder hardened in battle and wise in the ways of the world, a slip of a girl who may need someone who will throw her into a pond. You have much to offer, Lan, and to see it wasted in an unmarked grave, or left to the ravens, when it could go to a woman who needs it would be worse than the sin of which the Whitecloaks prate. Yes, I think she will have need of you." Lan's eyes widened slightly; for him it was the same as another man gasping in shocked surmise. She had seldom seen him so off balance. He opened his mouth twice before he spoke. "And who do you have in mind for this -"
The Great Hunt, chapter 22 "Watchers".
Lan's like, Wait wait wait are we walking about who I think we're talking about?!? and Moiraine just changes the subject instead of answering...
I forget that this happens long before Moiraine receives indications (from the Aelfinn, or from Rhuidean) that her death might be imminent - and also, that Moiraine and Myrelle came to their arrangement before Lan and Nynaeve met.
(Which means at some point, Moiraine must send a letter to Myrelle saying "k, the plan's changed, pls give Lan to Nynaeve". Perhaps that's one of the letters she asks Vandene to send for her?)
And after this conversation, Moiraine wonders when - when, not if - Lan will ask to be released from his bond, and how she'll respond. So things clearly don't unfold as she expects...
