hi! i love your blog so much and all the games you play always look so fun through your pictures! i wanted to buy cyberpunk 2077 but i'm hesitant because i've heard mixed reviews on it and it's pretty expensive. i would like to know your thoughts on it if you don't mind sharing them since i really respect you as a gamer! <3

Oh wow, ty.

I'm kinda finicky about which games I play tho, mostly bc I'm limited on time these days, but also bc they are indeed way to expensive, esp in this economy.

So I find I tend to play games that are more... versatile? Like, I can get plenty of hours, and uses out of it I guess, and luckily Cyberpunk 2077 mostly scratches that itch, and by mostly I mean... eh, it has it's downsides, so I'll go through those below.

Quality

Well it's gorgeous, so it will require a pretty beefy computer to run it, but I was able to play it with a 1060 GTX pretty okay, using the AMD Fidelity thingy in the settings helped a lot with keeping it playable, without losing quality.

Otherwise, as for the quality of the game, and gameplay itself, it has improved drastically since it first launched. The bugs are pretty far and few for me now, even before I got my RTX card, and CDPR has done a pretty swell job adding a lot of the features fans asked for, which is cool.

I still highly suggest that if you do get it, get it on a PC... it's alright to play without Mods, but Mods in general just add much longer life to games, the modding community is also pretty active rn, and so many mods have truly managed to make it the game people wanted it to be from the start.

Gameplay

There are plenty of difficulty options, if this is a concern, and I'm pretty sure you can change the difficulty while playing. The gameplay is simple enough otherwise, as it's FPP at all times, even in cutscenes, so you never see your V, unless you're in Photomode, but there are mods out there to allow you to see your V in third person as well.

I personally enjoy using AMM and a camera mod.

Otherwise the gun combat is stellar, I rather enjoy it, and the stealth is pretty fun esp with the use of your hacking abilities. Learning it all was pretty easy... mostly, it took me some time to figure out how the skill tree worked, but much of it is certainly a lot more straightforward than CDPR's previous titles imo.

Melee combat on the other hand... is... meh, but first person and melee is kind of a tough concept for me to wrap my head around sometimes, lol.

Missions, are a give and take depending which mission it is. The main story missions are gr8, lots of cutscenes, lots of action, lots of twists, but the further you get down the ladder, they tend to get repetitive don't involve a lotta story, or cutscenes, and the characters you meet during them aren't all too memorable, unless you loot the reading material you run across while doing them. Leveling is based on how much you do combat, or hack, so... there are times where I felt like I was just killing random gang members for money and points, then emptying out my inventory... wash, rinse, repeat.

Now as for the other aspects of gameplay, the character creation is okay... like it isn't the best, you can't do much with your V beyond choosing from a set of presets Potato Head Style, but similar to The Sims 4 it's quite easy to make a very pretty V with little to no effort... though it's likely they'll still end up looking like everyone else's. For a more unique looking V however, mods would help.

The world isn't as interactive as it should be either, which in a way I can understand bc it's a pretty big, densely populated, and highly detailed open world, but idk... perhaps Bethesda has spoiled me.

I rather enjoy breaking into people's houses CDPR, tyvm.

Dialogue options are... limited, but it is a voiced protag... the voices are well done tho, and depending on the path you chose at the beginning ( street kid, corpo, etc. ), you will occasionally get options that differ from the others, so this does help a bit with replayability.

Replayability

Now speaking of replayability, I weirdly don't find it as replay friendly as other games, like Skyrim, I guess bc it's a bit more linear, and although you can change how you play, what you say, and how you build your character, the story kinda still pans out the same way really... it's also super short. The main story is anyway, I've literally just been spamming side missions with my Corpo V, bc I'm just not "emotionally" ready to play the final mission, but even though I felt I kinda paced myself, I still somehow got to the end mission waaayyy too quickly, and now I'm running outta side missions to do.

Some of them... luckily, are pretty interesting, and will string you through three or four more missions to complete their own little story, but idk... some felt a bit underwhelming in the end.

Romances

They're cute, but there could've been more. I've romanced Panam and Kerry, and I enjoyed both, and they offered some fun missions leading up to the romantic portion as well so it doesn't feel rushed... sadly not all of the romances are like this. They've got preferences as well, so depending on your V's gender and path, some you'll find are able to be approached, but might not be interested.

There are plenty of other really amazing relationships in the game that aren't romantic too, and that's honestly where this game truly excels. Despite what's going on, it's obvious the core focus of the story is more about the people you meet, and connections you make along the way, so it was really cute watching my Corpo V's interactions with Judy blossom into a very sweet brother/sister type relationship.

Final Word

Honestly if you enjoy roleplaying games, it's a pretty good one, you assume a role, you play it... it's a game ??? Sadly, again, due to the relatively linear story, it still doesn't feel as much like an RPG as it should, esp if your idea of an RPG is more Bethesda or BioWare, and less Final Fantasy.

Now if you've got an imagination however, and plenty of time to download mods it can absolutely scratch that roleplaying itch, but much if it will be in your head, if what the game offers isn't doing it for you.

My suggestion... wait until Black Friday rolls around, and get it on sale.

I use this SPAA in the tank slot because some maps do not have APC slots and i think an SPAA is more important than a common tank, this is the very best SPAA in the ravenfield steam workshop, trust me, i have tested many other SPAA, the other ones keep focusing in ground target or simply ignore important air targets, they fail in accuracy and damage also, what make it non sense for a anti-air vehicle, this one is the most deadly SPAA, defeat the very fast fighter jets and powerfull helicoters fastly, definig who command the skies, meantime it floats in the water also, please use it to protect your airspace. (Overpowered SPAA) Obs: other great quality is the fact that modder let you to use this vehicle in another slots, so you can calibrate it.

APC Slot - C1 Ariete PSO by SouthernWolf67

believe me you will not find another tank better than this one from the ravenfield workshop, i have tested many many others, all that fail in healt, optimization, fire range and accuracy, but not this Ariete, this is the most accurate tank that you will find after the steelraven update that make bots fire while piloting resulting most tank mods to be worse in accuracy, luckly that one continue to be accurate, and you still win a very nice design, very nice optimization, yes it play well in potato pc and firing effects are very realistic, please use this tank in your gameplay and you will not regret, note that i prefer to set this tank in APC slot, because as i say before, i give priority to SPAA in tank slot.

Attack Helicopter - MIL MI-28 HAVOC by Mr_2005

And the best award as the best helicopter goes to Havoc from Mr_2005 modder, i have tested a lot of helicoter mods and this one wins because the rain of rockets that he make above the enemies, the machine gunner have explosive projectiles and he fires at long range, what make this helicopter to be the most agressive chopper from the workshop, i only think the health could be bigger following the soviet doctrine of to make the vehicles the more resistent possible so it could last longer in the battlefield, hear that Mr ? make this a flying monster by increasing the health plox ?! second place goes to WZ-10 by Ninjagrape

I just want steelraven release an update to improve bot skills in piloting and flying with helicopters, even if it’s the best mod, bots are still very slow to fly and don’t know how to do evasive maneuvers, which makes helicopters ‘’easy preys‘’ and last little in the battlefield, steelraven please make bots more hardcore when piloting attack helicopters thanks.

Transport Helicopter slot - None

Explanation: i dont think a transport helicopter could help my gameplay, we already have jeep and boats for troop transport, so why we need more transport vehicles ? just to pollute the skies and nothing more, so i prefer to not use a transport helicopter.

Attack Plane slot - MIG - 25 Foxbat by Mr_2005

You will believe me when i said that this is the very very best attack plane in that shitty workshop because i have fucking tested all the other attack planes you can imagine, what makes this plane special is the fact that it have only one weapon that is a tracking missile, so bots dont spend time firing machine guns or wired guided missiles that always miss the target, no bullshit in this plane make it very focused only in what matters: air superiority, it fires on sight and do not spend time letting the enemy survive, what makes it a very deadly plane, he fire ground targets also using tracking missiles, it never miss the target, if you dont like this one, keep with YF-23 by Lezvin that comes in second place or F-35B by noob kut ku comming in third place, they are overpowered jet fighters too, but they spend time making some bullshit as i said before.

Bomber plane slot - A6 Intruder by Mr_2005

If youre looking for a bomber plane to do some ground attack in vehicles targets this is the very best, he make rain fire in ground targets dropping some napalm bombs and raining a lot of rockets, some of the other bomber planes keep spending time flying around the targets and firing absolutely nothing i dont know why, this not happen with this bomber, he is always in action putting some terror in the heart of enemy soldiers in the floor, the fire effects are very impressive, much better than default explosion effects used by another bomber planes, there is a second seat for co-pilot and it does a lot of damage by firing guided missiles, which further increases the lethality of this plane.

Attack Boat slot - Silurus-Class Fast Attack Boat by noob kut ku

All we that play ravenfield and have a potato pc was sad because the only good attack boat that we had in the past was the RCB-90 from urban warfare modder, but saddly that boat was very laggy, so noob kut ku make my day when lauched this attack boat what is very similar, theres no bullshit like mortar that you can find in the original attack boat or in that piece of shit called vanilla boat, instead it we have a strong machine gun with explosive bullets that makes infantry be thrown away and a motherfuckin rocket that blows anything leaving a smoke trail behind , amazing boat, thank you very much noob, he fires you even if youre in a helicopter, no escape.

RHIB slot - Original

Machine Gun, Anti-tank and Anti-air Turrets - None

Why i need machine gun turret if my bots is already armed with the best weapons they can have ? why i need a anti-tank turret if my bots have decent rocket laucher ? why i need anti-air turret if i already have a SPAA that cover much more territory, so i dont use turrets to avoid the ground pollution in the battlefield

WEAPONS FOR BOTS (A.i)

First of all i deselect all the weapons because i am very carefully with what weapons my bots are using, cause they have worse skills and worse accuracy using the wrongs weapons, so lets pick the weapons carefully here.

If you agree with me, so you think that Hard dificulty mode from ravenfiel still is easy, one way to increase the dificulty beyond the normal is giving the right weapons for your bots, they play better using the right weapons.

Eagle Main Assault Rifle: [Project WW3] M4A1 (1st version) By Mellamomellamo

I like this weapon because it remember me my old times of call of duty modern warfare series, and because bot have long range firing using it, so is the main assault rifle of my eagle team, in my test A.i could shot at long range using this weapon, what did not happen with a lot of another weapons.

Eagle Anti-Tank: Dagger (Original)

Raven Main Assault Rifle: AKM by SAVANY

This is the very best AKM that you can define to your enemy team, in my test bots have the longest range and the most accuracy while shootting with this AKM you will have much more challenge in your gameplay, i dont know why but bots play better using this assault rifle than using the defautl assault rifles, strange but luckly, the bursts are usually accurate and do not spread as much as in mods of other assault rifles (Overpowered AKM)

Raven Anti-Tank: Dagger (Original)

Weapons for Both A.i teams Eagle and Raven

Sniper rifles: SL Defender (Original) and Recon LRR

(i dont know why but in my tests, bots only play well using default sniper rifles, so dont give another sniper rifle mods to your bots or they will play more badly)

Close quarters: TTI Benelli M4 by suzushiInfantry

Another weapon that increases the game dificulty, bots they like to use this shotgun a lot, and the shots are very accurate even in a medium range, in close range so they are very quick on the trigger, you will die several times due to the lethality of this shotgun (Overpowered shotgun)

Infantry support: M249 Saw (only) - Urban Warfare: Machine Guns by Laureen Keqing

Don't ask me why but bots become extremely deadly when put their hands on M249 SAW that belong to this pack (i only recommend it from this pack), M249 SAW give to your bots high range and letal accuracy, sometimes they hit your a lot of times at once, seems like bots are using hack when they use M249, and it have a nice shooting effect also, if you want to increase dificulty of your game, select M249 to your enemies. (Overpowered machinegun)

Grenades: Model 1914 Grenade Pack Remaster by Ninjagrape

this is the only hand grenade that i like, why ? because it send everyone to the air when explodes, and it make my game more funny. (Overpowered grenade)

Equipment: The rest of things i use original, medic bag, ammo bag, sabre, skins, i dont like to use unuseful mods to keep filling my game with stupid mods that can decrease my gaming performance and polluting my scenario, so this things i prefer to keep original.

stream of consciousness thoughts on ( ovan’s ) will. and about graphics. this is your spoiler warning for volume 4: reconnection.

i spent too long last night playing gu for a hot second and now i have some Thoughts:tm: about plots, ovan, and the notion of will. enjoy some 2015 levels of rambling about objectively minuscule details.

anyway literal toilet thought but the archives have a very interesting way of creating meaningful iconography using particular design elements of characters ( mainly the infinity eight ) and minimizing it to something both unique and recognizable. namely, the epitaph pattern icons used for each player in the archives---they’ve always been really neat, unique, and it’s been something that the cc2 team has always used in their archives since _02.

ovan’s has changed between trilogy/original gu and volume 4, which i always thought was pretty neat, especially in terms of what’s actually presented.

( but anyone with the book be like: okay but haseo has a different one too in volume 4!! and i say shshshshshshshh this came about purely because of unison skeith’s icon which uses haseo’s epitaph version since he’s.......you know.......skeith’s host. epitaph talk will come up later )

anyway excuse my 5 minute “slap a banner of images” but the difference here is obvious and i just have an appreciation for what it means with aida---mostly that aida was acknowledged and treated as a completely different entity, an anomaly that didn’t belong on ovan at all and depicted as such during the trilogy. but after kusabira fuses back with him as true neighbor ( which i always thought was a very interesting name to give tri-edge ), we get a spiffy new icon for big blue and wah-lah, aida is now cyan! YAAAA!!! whether or not ovan actually accepts her as part of him ( in which he at least seems reluctant in-game, not so much my main verse after 6 years of writing him lmao ) is rather up for debate, but here we can at least verify that she’s not there to be malicious per se ( but that doesn’t quite exclude her as a menace, see haseo’s “it’s kusabira, isn’t it. it’s that aida whispering in your ear.” ), and not to the extent of trying to completely fuck up his day. i found that slight change pretty interesting. this is where i get into the meat of what i wanted to talk about.

the notion of will in .hack---gu in particular.

but first i do wanna say that there’s this blaring fucking pothole when it comes to corbenik and the rebirth that i don’t know will ever be explained. like. if it’s a failsafe that was a one and done thing, then corbenik should have been......destroyed or severely damaged or something.....right...or at least that’s what kind of makes sense to me unless the product of the RA plan really makes epitaphs less prone to the crumbly wumblies like they were in imoq after being salvaged. although that doesn’t seem to be the case given unison skeith is a solid half corbenik/half skeith. it’s bothered me for years and canon doesn’t really lean one way or the other, it just is ( again, i’ve written something out for my corbi blog years ago and tl;dr ovan and azure kite go fish him out of the sea of data, put him together, but he lacks the ability to rebirth again--i need to tag that thread actually ). but maybe he’s never meant to truly disappear as his moniker implies. always coming back ( additionally fitting for ovan, but i digress ).

will is an interesting concept in gu. and at least with ovan specifically, it’s a strangely powerful trait in him, which may be why part of why he has this sort of enigmatic sort of vibe to him to anyone---this notion of, “i don’t know what this guy wants, but whatever it is, he’ll get it one way or another.” and i think it may really be stronger than at first glance, pivotal almost. we see it twice in dire moments, even though he’s so, so tired.

the first ( and not chronologically, there’s obvious some other off-screen moments we can speculate, these are just two instances that come to mind clearly ) is with the fight with cubia in redemption, where 7 of the 8 are trying to break through ballsack cubia’s final AT field ( forgive me it looks like an AT field what can we expect from sadamoto okay ). yata says they can’t do it without “the epitaph of rebirth”, which always struck me as odd for quite awhile. what did he mean by epitaph of rebirth? didn’t haseo have all of the epitaph data in his pc? he data drained corbenik twice now, they should be okay, no?

but, yata wasn’t referring to corbenik specifically in this case. he was referring to ovan, and in that extension, corbenik as his epitaph. the remnant data skeith absorbed was essentially not enough in this case despite corbenik containing a metric fuckton of data between himself and aida. what skeith can’t devour is human will. ovan’s will.

in the archives, ovan’s specifically noted to have an extremely high mental resilience---it’s the primary trait that attracted corbenik in the first place when searching for a host. this could mean quite a few things, honestly, and taking into account what little of his past we actually know, it makes sense that his sense of direction is incredibly poignant, his will to be essentially unmatched ( although parallel to haseo’s in my opinion, just simply a different flavor ). the man’s just an absolute unit. it’s also noted that ovan didn’t really take into account the repercussions of activating the rebirth and purging the net, thus spawning our good friend cubia, so he truly was just ready to go sleep forever. paraphrasing aura here, the rest of the infinity eight’s praying for ovan to hear their collective voices ( admittedly it just boils down to ovan hearing haseo’s voice, gestures at lost files in the trilogy archives which is a hilarious conversation by the way; “leave me be, i’m tired. i just want to sleep.” ) is what gets him to muster up any remaining strength he has left to come help.

it’s an interesting sequence of scenes with haseo’s cracked data just magically healing up once ovan enters the picture---his presence alone drives haseo. it’s his image and his voice that’s alongside haseo’s ( which is an interesting choice because it could have been all eight of them in this case ). his will is what catalyzes everything to it’s end, including himself.

the second is the avatar fight with moralta, where haseo realizes that he can’t do it alone again---and ovan is still surprisingly able to put himself through that kind of strain despite being in the deep freeze for a year ( avatar and all! again! goddamn! ), combining into unison skeith and yeeting the shit out of giant slug baby once and for all. this particular encounter takes a different note compared to cubia considering we hear both of them synced up ( literally all of their dialogue is the same )---and beyond the fact this whole epilogue is about haseo and ovan, it really ends up being the sheer fact that it’s both of them together that overcome and stop moralta from fucking up [the world]. sheer will’s a strong motive for pretty much all of vol 4 though, so this is kinda expected. it’s haseo’s lament at the end that poses an interesting discussion---he couldn’t do it by himself again ( in this case he is referring to everyone as a whole as well before finding ovan, too ). for all of the power that he holds via skeith, kusabira, etc, he still needed ovan there to push to victory. i’ve always felt that was an interesting distinction the staff has made throughout the gu timeline ( in any retelling of it, actually ). even ovan has to let him know that it’s the fact he had a warband of support that got him that far in the first place despite the trauma ovan had pushed him through.

the series has been consistent about ovan’s ability to push things the extra mile, even for things that he may not personally want, even if there’s few people he’d undoubtedly be alongside. his involvement makes all of the difference, and that’s powerful in it’s own way ( he is the antihero after all ). we see the power ovan has by guiding the events of gu throughout all three volumes, but we really see just how strong he is when he’s actually on-screen the few times he’s there for more than 10 seconds. it’s kind of fucking insane such a laidback personality has that much influence on the outcome of incredibly dangerous/dire/important situations.

when he knows exactly what he wants, he knows exactly what makes people tick, and what makes the world around him change. ovan’s will is a terrifying weapon and it’s one of my favorite details about him.

and last thing that just came to mind from playing around last night..

in one of the demo trailers, haseo’s monologue expresses the emotions he’s experienced throughout playing to that point---specific people embody specific emotions, and in ovan’s case, he’s associated with despair. despair drives ovan--haseo’s correct about that honestly even if the context of what he knows boils down to the fact ovan’s burdened with aida and saving his sister ( things we see in the archives explicitly point out that the indou parents are straight up dead ). this man has lost so much, is losing too much, and is on the brink of losing even more during the events of gu and it shows. despair is a powerful force, a reaction to the things one has experienced and an outlet for all of the things it can cause. a man with nothing left to lose is the most dangerous and the most powerful of them all even in silence---and somehow, somehow ovan has managed to keep his edge despite being on the brink of death himself in the real world. that’s fucking scary.

How to Stay Safe from the Web of Things

If you're reading this, you're using the web.

True story. And if you're using the web, you've got access somewhere either in your home, or through the cafe or at the library. If it’s in your home, otherwise you use the cafe on a laptop or smartphone, we'd like to speak. If you're only using the library’s computers to access the web and don’t own a computer or smartphone in the least, you're exempt from this discussion. But, most folks need this reality check.

I accept a geek.

My hubby may be a systems admin for an outsized company and his responsibilities include keeping many, many, many servers up and running. Those servers are often venerable to outside attacks, like hackers, so he has got to stay his toes with the newest technologies, security risks, and patches. (of course meaning he rarely features a time off, but that’s another blog post) He lives by the pc, and our home is fully wired. you'll see wires almost anywhere you look. I’ve learned to measure with it, and appreciate the safety he has put into place. What I would like to share with you today are a few security measures that a lot of don’t even believe. User names and passwords are a biggie with him.

A few years back, he made a show for a few friends that their internet wasn’t secure. “We use the password they gave us” was their response. That password, given to them by the cable company, was considered the default password. It took my hubby approximately 15 seconds to interrupt their computer together with his smartphone because they used the “default” password. A Few Quick Tips for purchasing Baby Chicks

Once inside the pc, he could easily access banking records, passwords for other sites, etc. The lesson here: CHANGE THE PASSWORD ON YOUR ROUTER. Make it a minimum of 10 digits long, and include uppercase, lowercase, and symbols. Forget the “words”, especially people who are common and if you've got issues remembering what it's, write it down (not during a smartphone, please) and reserve it someplace secure. Our oldest write it on a bit of paper that's taped to the rear of her monitor.

Don’t make your user name and password universal.

That means you employ a special user name and a special password for every site. No using an equivalent one for Facebook, Twitter, and such. The main reason being, if they will break your Facebook site, and you employ the password for twitter, or amazon, or the other site, they will break those too.

If you've got a tough time maintaining with all of them, like me, try a password “wallet” like Lastpass. It also can assist you to create passwords that are very secure and store them for you. All you've got to recollect is one main password to check in to the location, and it’ll fill within the passwords for you. once you are logging off for the day, simply sign out of the location and it’s much more secure. the simplest part is that you simply can add an app to your smartphone to stay all those passwords secure also. Speaking of smartphones, the web of things may be a huge headache for my hubby.

We all want convenience in our lives, right? And, using smartphones helps. I could live without a laptop, or desktop, or TV, or books as long as I had my smartphone. It’s beat there. you'll turn a crockpot on and off, control the temp in your home, or maybe attach a security system with your smartphone. All done through a simple app that you simply download and hook up with those devices. It sounds so wonderful, right?

Put the roast within the crockpot before you begin the day, and switch it on once you want to, even far from home. Check on your babysitter via cameras within the home that you simply have connected to an app on your smartphone. No worries! Except there ARE worries.

Each time you connect an app from your phone to an item in your home you're basically “punching a hole” in your internet firewall. Little by little, those holes can cause big issues. Let’s take the crockpot.

You connect your crockpot to an app, and there's a small hole in your home firewall. The user name and password are secure and therefore the security patches up so far. But, 6 months down the road, you haven’t changed the user name or password (why would you, right?) and you haven’t checked for any security updates. As little as 3 years later, the crockpot remains going strong, but the corporate is not any longer supporting that sort of system and therefore the updates are gone.

That means that it’s venerable to outside attacks. Now, multiply that issue times the number of wireless items you've got in your home-security cameras, thermostats, locks, even the fridge or oven. Most folks wouldn’t remember to see for updates, or maybe believe it. It’s just a crockpot, right? Do you think that a crockpot is nothing?

Not to a hacker. Once they get in, even through something as small as that crockpot, it’s just a matter of your time before they will access your entire system. It’s already possible for somebody is going to be ready to hack smart cars, and even control those entire systems. Get a vindictive one that hacks you, and it might be disastrous. If you are feeling you want to have those items in your life, there ARE some ways to stay you safer.

First, get a calendar or reminder out. From the day you download that app and connect the item, every 30 days you would like to see for security updates. Every 3-4 months, change the password. Mark those on a calendar so you don’t forget. Oh, put it on PAPER, not your smartphone. And, do that until you not have that item in your home. Once the safety updates are not any longer being done, you almost certainly shouldn’t use that item in your home anymore. At the very least, disconnect it and take away the app and don’t use it wirelessly. The next thing you'll do to stay yourself safer is to NOT share passwords.

That sounds elementary, right? But, as my friend finally understood, even sharing it with a trusted neighbor can leave you venerable. If you've got guests that want to use your wi-fi, then change the password once they are gone. Don’t leave any holes they'll have created open. We aroused having to cover our internet once we discovered our neighbor had logged on when spending the night with our daughter, and was ready to continue using it at her house. Normally not an enormous deal, but leaving yourself open like that isn’t an honest idea. At all. Change the password. Keep yourself safe while surfing the internet.

Remember that tiny things can add up, and user names and passwords are important! Keep the unique, and alter them often. Keep the web of “things” to a minimum, and continue with the safety updates, and your identity is going to be far safer!

I have so much crap it’s not even funny. 31 days of HALLOWEINERS!

When most people who enjoy horror movies will pop on a copy of Pumpkinhead during this time of year, I go a little lower. I love PUMPKINHEAD 2: BLOOD WINGS! We can pretty much forget the other sequels though.

PumpkinHead 2 Blood Wings (1993)

This much cheaper straight to vhs sequel is a true homage to B horror all around. Check this cast from the random kill cameos of Gunnar Hansen, Linnea Quigley and Kane Hodder. To the very odd main cast of Andrew Robinson from Hellraiser and Deep Space Nine, Gloria Hendry from Black Belt Jones and Live and Let Die (on my blog Black Belt Jones comes before live and let die) , Roger Clinton brother of Bill Clinton played the mayor and also Soleil Moon freakin Frye aka Punky freakin Brewster as the token mean goth chick.

The movie plays out like a cheap rip off of I Know what you did last Summer, even though this came out five years before that. A bunch of teens go for a drunken joy ride and hit someone. This someone is a witch and curses them with the demon of pumpkinhead controlled by the soul of her dead son. So instead of having revenge brought on them by a fisherman with a hook its a full on assault from a giant rubber monster called Pumpkinhead (who I always think looks more like testical head).

The original Pumpkindead plays out like a Stephen King odd character study in a ghost story. But this one is a full on slasher with in a monster movie. It tries to set an origin for the creature but that is only vagueing like the original and very different then the later films. Also trade in Greg Nicitaros rubber monster suit instead of the original Stan Winston. I kinda like how rubbery he is though. Nothing original just a schlocky horror geeks party movie with hacking and slashing. I like my horror simple, slimey and screaming.

There was a PC game released for this which is very shitty but when you win the game you get to see a blooper shot from the movie of the pumpkinhead monster in costume but with visible sneakers on while doing a little dance. And here it is....

With a new year, I decided to take a look at the upcoming releases for the Switch in 2018 and make a few suggestions as to what games girls should be looking out for in the year ahead. (There may be a few games that released in Q4 of 2017 also on this list as I wasn’t sure of a few of the release dates). Enjoy! My Time At Portia is a cross platform title that features sandbox gameplay in a large open world enviornment. It blends together many gameplay elements from Harvest Moon, Stardew Valley, Rune Factory, and Atelier. In this game you can raise animals, grow crops, and restore an abandoned workshop. The developers say the game takes place in a post apocalyptic world where humans are few and that you search for relics from the past to create inventions for the betterment of society. Also just like in Harvest Moon and similar games, all of the NPCs have their own schedules, they will go to work, school, and have their own stories for you to discover by interacting with them.

This is perhaps an interesting one to make the list. Avabel Online is a free to play MMORPG that is already available on many platforms, including Android and IOS devices which makes it already portable and playable on the go. The retro style graphics appeal to me (and probably most of the readers of my blog). But what really appeals to me is this statement that the Devs make about the storyline: “You will be brought to tears as you uncover the twists and turns in this emotionally story-driven experience that will leave you shocked and surprised as you discover the secrets the world of Touchstone has to offer.” – I am a sucker for a heart tugging story. The Devs also indicate that “The Untold Legacy sets out to recreate some of the most heartfelt and gut wrenching moments imaginable.” These two statements make me very interested in this game.

12.) Yoshi

This game features an art style similar to Paper Mario, and the main character is the lovable, Yoshi, the green dinosaur who first debuted in Super Mario World. The colorful graphics and addictive platformer style gameplay make this game perfect for our list of 2018 Nintendo Switch Games for Girls.

13.) Croixleur Sigma

With a 9/10 and “Very Positive” Rating on Steam, this anime style hack-n-slash RPG is coming to Switch in 2018. The gameplay is reminicessent of several of the newer Hyper Dimension Neptunia games. The local 2 player co-op makes it perfect for the Nintendo Switch. And playing as the cute anime girls make it a game girls will love to play together.

14.) Your Four Knight Princess Training Story

A “Raising Sim” similar to games such as Princess Maker and Graduation 95. Gematsu has an excellent article detailing how you will train your princess in this new 2018 Nintendo Switch Game. Basically it involves scolding or praising your princess at various times, for example during conversations or while exploring dungeons. The story and characters change based on your decisions and how you raise your princess. The princesses each have various parameters that you can train to unlock new skills or increase their stats to help them in battle.

15.) Legrand Legacy Tale of the Fatebounds

Legrand Legacy Tale of the Fatebounds is an impressive indie title with full 3D cinematics and FMV cutscenes. It features tactical turn based combat and interesting city building and mini game mechanics. I’m really looking forward to this title which releases later this month (January 2018).

16.) Shin Megami Tensei V

I haven’t taken time to organize these recommendations in any kind of “ranking” system, but if I had to pick just one game on this list to play in 2018 it would be Shin Megami Tensei V. Atlus’ dark RPG franchise that sparked the Persona spin off games is one of my favorites.

17.) Tohou Sky Arena Gensoukyou Kuusen Hime

This looks like an anime brawler with cute girls and exciting special moves. It’s visually very pretty and looks like combat will be fun too.

18.) Valkyria Chronicles 4

A new title in the tactical Strategy RPG series, Valkyria Chronicles. I’m a huge fan of this series, and this one looks great. It’s due out in March 2018. Valkyria Chronicles is a Sega series known for excellent characters and story lines as well as fun Strategy RPG combat.

19.) The Longest Five Minutes

This humorous RPG launches in February 2018. The tale begins at the end, as you are facing the demon king, but suddenly you’ve lost all of your memories. From there, regain your memories, remember who you are, where you’re from, where you’re going, and your reason for fighting the demon king. The cute and colorful graphics and retro feel are sure to appeal to my readers.

20.) Mulaka

With gameplay reminiscent of Zelda or Castlevania, this action RPG features a story and game world that draw inspiration from Mexican culture. The gameplay trailer above shows various abilities and fighting styles, including the ability to transform into different animals.

21.) Yono and the Celestial Elephants

How could this game NOT make our list??! Look at that elephant. LOOK AT IT!! Has there ever been a cuter video game character in the history of video games? Nope. This adorable little game looks kawaii and charming AF and seems to have some fun puzzles to solve too.

22.) Wandersong

Play as a traveling bard in this cute, happy, colorful paper-cut-out style world. Coming in early 2018.

23.) Goragoa

This puzzle game features gorgeous artwork and requires some outside the box thinking. The soundtrack is also lovely and I’ve heard the story is quite sad as well.

Wargroove promises to be easy to pick up, but difficult to master. Up to 4 players can take control of an army and command it to victory. The colorful retro style graphics really look great and gameplay looks fun and interesting.

25.) Penny Punching Princess

An Action RPG in Which Money Makes the World Go Round. That’s what Nintendo has to say about their latest RPG that lets you bribe monsters to fight for you. Many are comparing this game to Tingle’s Rosy Rupee Land – a game which I’ve never played (nor even heard of). The colorful and cute graphics caught my eye. I’ll be checking this one out in 2018.

26.) Fallen Legion: Rise to Glory

Nintendo promises new content and features in this release. “Combining both Fallen Legion: Flames of Rebellion and Fallen Legion: Sins of an Empire for the first time on one console, Fallen Legion: Rise to Glory includes all new art, Exemplars, monsters, bosses and challenges not found in the original releases. I’d somehow not heard of this game until now, so now seems the perfect time to pick this one up.
