Imagine Eomer visiting Eowyn and Faramir when little Elboron, who is genetically programmed to love Aragorn Very Much, is still Very Small and telling him stories as he sits there, eyes shining and mouth agape, of how he was the first to come across King Elessar when he first came from the North?

Did he tell him about how he thought he was riding across the green grass of Rohan when a legend of bygone days seemed to appear before him out of nowhere, and how he himself questioned how it could even be possible?

Now imagine little Elboron insisting they play “The Finding or King Elessar” (aka hide and seek) and whenever Eomer finds him he shrieks out excitedly that “Legends have sprung from the green grass of Ithilien!!!”

Now imagine Elboron brought to the court to meet King Elessar and being excited to play the game with him, only THIS TIME King Elessar gets to play his part and Elboron gets to play his uncle’s part. There is general amusement when tiny baby Elboron asks King Elessar to play almost immediately after being presented to the King, but nobody is surprised when Aragorn agrees to it.

Imagine little Eldarion seeing the game and insisting that HE play King Elessar, as is his Right.

Chaos inevitably ensues when Eldarion, Elboron, and Elfwine are all together because nobody is sure who should play who. 90% of the time they end up playing the Three Hunters and either Legolas, the closest visiting Hobbit, or Eldarion’s sisters (when they’re old enough) are roped into playing Eomer and his Eored. (Eldarion is very generous and does not insist on being Aragorn every single time, so the three switch off being various members of the Three Hunters).

web of wyrd: lesson from the fatherly energy in your life / what inspires your growth as a person

the number we are focusing on today is based on the SUM OF YOUR PUBLIC ENERGY NUMBER AND YOUR HIGHEST SELF NUMBER (ex: my public energy number is 9 and my highest self number is 10: 9 + 10 -> 19 (recall that numbers must be summed a second time if they total 23 (i.e. 2 + 3 -> 5) and above)).

but what does this number mean?

this number represents what inspires our character growth in this lifetime. this number can help us to balance our public energy and our highest self energy - it essentially helps to provide continuity between our character. as my alma mater says, "be who you are and be that well." and as i say, "say what you mean and mean what you say." that is to say this number can help us become more genuine in day to day life when practiced. it is also the first number in our "male generational line"; often it is symbolic of the first male energy we interact with in life which is typically our fathers - so this is the biggest lesson we learn from our father figures as well.

so let's talk about some examples:

3 - the empress

rider-waite smith's empress is a regal lady sits on red (passion) cushions in a fertile forest where strong trees and wheat crops flourish. she is at one with nature. a heart shaped stone with the glyph of venus (what she represents) is beneath her cushions - she appears at ease with the possibly uncomfortable seating conditions. she stares are the viewer (confrontational) of the card, dressed in a white (innocence) pomegranate-patterned (pomegranates -> passion, fertility, and cyclicality of life) dress. she is adorned with a crown (has 12 stars - alluding to the 12 zodiacs) and a scepter showing her strength as a matriarch.

3s are inspired to grow when they learn to be patient, sit back, and receive rather than chase after answers/objects. hobbies that inspire patiences are meditation, yoga, gardening, writing, cooking/baking, reading, learning new languages, fishing, quilting, crochet, knitting, adult coloring books, puzzles, etc. it is important that 3s stay relaxed and follow their passions (with the 12-starred crown these people tend to be passionate/inspired by astrology) while creating what they desire most (any medium of art is also good).

3s are likely to be closer with their father than to their mother. their father is likely to illustrate to them unconditional love either for them or model it around them in some other area. they also could be a creative that lets the 3 explore their passions. 3s could learn to see the world through rose-colored glasses from their fatherly figure. their father can also be very granola - they can encourage going outside to become one with nature or they may be naturalists/naturopaths.

10 - wheel of fortune

10s are inspired to grow when they learn to connect with spirituality (so many occult symbols are present in this card, don't be afraid to search beyond just one belief). these people need something to connect with when times are rough - they need something to believe in. belief is a powerful tool that often boosts morale in the best way possible. to better connections with spirituality try joining a bible study, following a daily devotional online, going on a nature walk, joining a yoga/meditation group, journaling, volunteering in the community, planting a tree, practicing tai chi, etc. they also need to be around constant change so that they do not feel stagnant - outdoor exercise (or in a gym facility) is probably the best hobby for these people so they can build physical strength and endurance as they do they same emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. they should also pick up a hobby that is unpredictable as they need to realize that not all things can be controlled: practice one random act of kindness a week, manage a bonsai tree, take a different route on the drive home, try any random/new hobby/activity/workshop, surprise someone with a gift, make conversation with a stranger, go to a psychic, etc.

10's fatherly figure tends to teach them that fate can lead them anywhere. their fatherly figure can teach them that if they understand something and believe, they can accomplish anything that they want to. they could also teach them that there are patterns in life - a cycle - so they should never fear what comes nexts. trust what the universe has in store for everyone.

19 - the sun

19s are inspired to grow when they learn to embrace their inner child. inner child work is extremely important to becoming anyone's best self, but for this person it is extremely beneficial to be around children and to get to understand the people around them and their inner children as well. because the truth is we are all children in spirit. practice hobbies that allow reconnection with the inner child: shadow work, make a mess - bake / paint / play dress up and do make up, buy a cute stuffed animal, throw a themed daytime party - i.e. a fairy themed picnic, play outside - garden / forage, volunteer to read to children at your local library, have a sleepover with your friends, pick up something you used to do when you were little - hula hoop / hatch butterflies, make your favorite childhood meal, try mantras/manifestation, etc. by practicing any of these things it will help to bring in to focus what productivity means to them. it could renew clarity towards life (perhaps you have been taking life too seriously), and/or it could make them feel alive again.

19's father figures likely taught them what it means to be healthy inside and out. it might be that they are able to see that youth, sadness, health, and/or illness is all temporary. these people's father could be childish themselves (perhaps 19s grew up too fast to enjoy childhood the first time around as well) and modeled what it is to embrace the energy of the sun card. they could also model for 19s what passion is when it comes to hobbies.

Oracle, Orpheus' Drugs, and Yidhra Theory

Adding this here due to a curious comment I received regarding Oracle and Yidhra on my previous theory.

"Oracle" is technically a drug, as that is how it is described in the "medicine test records" and owner's diaries in the 2nd anniv pack, but it's interesting to connect the effects with Yidhra. Based on what I can find, she is described as being able to project thoughts into the minds of others that can create "dream-like worlds" and humans can mistake for reality, as well as manipulate the mental states of her victims so they're rarely aware of what's happening. So the similarities are pretty good.

And Yidhra's letters are always pretty curious, considering it keeps talking about abnormalities in the water, soil, and plants. The investigators refer to it as something like "pollution". Some of the plants are said to have "wilted", dried up, the soil is said to be "strongly acidic" in at least 1 area, and the "algal content" of the water is higher than normal lakes, They also mention strange "unidentified microbial deposits" in the water and soil, but their investigation is forced to end due to various reasons (missing records, destroyed environments, etc…).

Yidhra's 4th letter also mentions that the "edge of the forest" was withered, but the plants within the forest were "teeming with life". It is unknown whether the soil was acidic here too, but we do see Yidhra causes the investigator to blur "dreams and reality" as well as how the investigator "cannot seem to remember" if there was "an ending to last night's dream".

I did see that at least some ferns like acidic soil, in which case the soil by Lakeside would be good for them (or at least Orpheus could take some of it to grow the ferns in his greenhouse).

I also saw that ferns require organic matter (like decomposing plant material) for growth. From what I found, microbial deposits consist of accumulations of microorganisms and their byproducts, which can help decompose organic matter and contribute to the nutrient cycle to make those nutrients available to plants, including ferns. So it's possible all these things in Yidhra's letters are related to the ferns.

I also did see that supposedly she can provide "bountiful crops and healthy livestock", so it'd stand to reason she can also cause the opposite to happen. In which case, that could tie to the dead part of the forest vs the flourishing part of the forest. Within the forest we know is the Forest of No Return/Darkwoods, where we can find the bonfire that Yidhra's form can appear in after eliminating 4 survivors by it (which ties to the part where she can provide those healthy crops and livestock if she is worshiped). We also know Marjorie likely saw Yidhra's form in the fire based on Yidhra's 2nd letter.

The issue with Oracle specifically is Netease seems to have decided against it to instead do something else, as we can see we have 4 different drugs, but they seem to at least do some similar things to what Oracle did, meaning the fern could still tie to Yidhra.

(Least this whole idea would tie Yidhra to the lore somehow + make some sense out of her letters)

The Selk'nam (I): Quick historical recap

One of who knows many posts I'll write about the Selk'nam (AKA Ona) culture. In this post I will mostly talk about historical context. So whenever I get into mythology, religion, folklore, etc, you can come back here and read this if you want to know the specifics.

Located in the south of Chile and close to Argentina, the Selk'nam were a group of somewhat recent tribes. They diverged from the Tehuelche people in the 1300s, only a century and half before the Spanish crown arrived and claimed most of the American continent!

They displaced quickly the closely related Haush, and both cultures dsitributed the land between themselves.

(Curious fact: They used Yagan dogs for hunting, that they domesticated from wild foxes, instead of wolves like most of the modern dog breeds. The same evolution path, from a different starting point!)

At first, they were somewhat lucky. The spanish crown took as it's property all of South America. But actually, it never went that far into the south. The Onas were not discovered until 1520, while Magallanes was trying to travel the whole world for the first time in history. Even then, they were not contacted until 1580, and for a couple centuries, they were mostly left on their own. So you can have a vague idea of how feeble was the influence on them until the latest centuries.

To the left, an image of Spain (orange) claims on SA, to the right, the tribes present. While the crown had Selk'nam territory as claimed, those lands were very disjointed and there was barely a couple settlements.

The Selk'nam were very stable population wise. By the time they were counted by censuses in the late 1800s, their numbers were somewhere between 4000 to 5000. Like other civilizations, they sometimes engaged into conflicts with their neighbours, and sometimes kept peaceful relations (the noble savage myth is a racist and condescending idea, they were human with all the shades and lights). In other words, their population was in a very delicate balance, able to get through with no external pressures.

Until that changed.

1860. The Gold fever arrived to all the americas. Scavengers frantically looked for gold in water sources to make quick money. Not only the gold, but all the economy moved by it made countless businesses flourish, and lots of people interested in claiming lands for exploitation.

The Selknam happened to be located in the Land of Fire (Tierra de Fuego), a very exploitable place for rich outsiders. Multiple farmers arrived to Chile and wanted to extend their crops and livestock there. Onas were in the way, and the now independent Chilean goverment was either powerless, or did not even care, to stop them from attacking their own people.

For the next 40 years, the Selknam were not merely killed. As if they were prized animals, they were hunted down. Their fragile balance was not prepared to cope with an external force that put literal bounties on their heads for the crime of existing, and happening to be there.

I'd put photographies some of the settlers took, posing with their corpses, plundering their tents, shooting at innocents fleeing, because trust me, they took many, and nowadays they're still out there. A quick google search shows them. But that's gratuite, gruesome and plainly unnecesary. I think my point is driven home.

The numbers dropped massively. The Selknams were soon forced to abandon their lifestyle, and by 1900, their numbers were in the low 100s. As they were pushed away from their land and driven into a corner, Selknam groups resorted to infighting to get a hold to the last of the land and resources.

Some Christian missions took pity on them and helped them relocate, but whilst doing that, they lost what little they had left of their culture and ways of living. On top of that, the poor living conditions, and many contagious diseases they had no response for (same situation that killed millions in central america back when the spanish set foot for the first time).

Close to 1910 the massacre finally stopped, but it was too late. Their numbers sunk further. By 1950, only a dozen or so remained. In 1966, Lola Kiepja, last of the Selknam who fully knew the culture and customs, passed away.

But not all hope is lost!

The Ona tribes may be extinct functionally, but their legacy has not dissapeared. In fact, there's chance of a comeback!

Some mestizos (mixed descendants, with Selknam ancestry) have reappeared after the 1980s, now that the stigma started to wane. A 2010 census in Argentina found over 2000 proclaimed Selknams, and another in Chile, over 1000.

Not only that, one of those mestizos, Joubert Yanten Gomez, managed to reconstruct the Selknam language (passed down by the last survivors), and self taught it to himself! A crude version of the original, maybe, since there's no native to compare it, but still saved from total extinction!

There's recordings, photographies, and accurate protrayals of their rituals and dances. The states started to support their people, and effords of revitalization started in the late XX century. Every day, more is known and shared about the Ona people.

The story of the Selk'nam is not one of defeat, but of superation. Even if their people was exterminated, enough managed to survive and pass the torch, defying all odds.

No matter how oppresed is a culture, if the will of it's population prevails, they will keep living on.

I can't wait to actually get into what they achieved, what they believed, and how they viewed the world around them.

The prairies

the prairies have a huge image problem through no fault of their own. When talking about conservation it’s easy to sell people on preserving areas with mountains, the boreal forest, ocean, rainforests etc. But the prairies have been a tough sell. It’s not because the prairies aren’t beautiful and captivating and important. It’s because so many people don’t even know what an actual prairie is. There’s a good chance when you read prairie you pictures fields of wheat/barley/oats/canola/whatever crops are common to your area. But that’s not a prairie. A prairie is a thriving eco system with a shit ton of bio diversity. It may not look it but it has some of the most bio diversity of any land eco system. It is also one of the best eco systems for sequestering carbon. The absence of much bush should not make an eco system disposable.

This is one of my biggest issues with people advocating for less livestock production in favour of crops. Crops don’t sequester nearly as much as a native grass prairie. But a native grass prairie not only can support livestock but needs grazing animals to thrive. I know we’ve all heard about cows and emissions but what people don’t consider is the amount of emissions being sequestered by allowing these animals to graze an in tact prairie, while also allowing a bio diverse eco system to flourish. Yes there is bad cattlemen out there, just like there’s good ones who care a lot about conservation (despite your notions thay all ranchers/cowboys don’t give a shit about the land). I could continue on about this about how 99% of ranchers care a lot about the welfare of their livestock but that’s a different conversation.

my point is the preservation of prairies are not only an absolutely vital part of protecting bio diversity and in turn helping fight climate change but tue revitalization of these prairies needs to happen too. Currently only 6% of native prairie in North America is in tact (there is tame pasture and prairie which is better than crops but not as good as native plants). Some places are better than others (but nobody is great) like Alberta (26% left), Saskatchewan(21%). But some are absolutely terrible like Iowa and Texas.

prairies are not a barren wasteland waiting for humans to plant crops. They are an amazing and complex eco system just as deserving as the mountains and forests of our protection
