Spencer Reid would hate modern pop music. Not to the point of outwardly complaining, but he wouldn't like it. So often you'll see character playlists that are just this moments popular songs. (Ie: Apocalypse by Cigarettes after sex, Romantic Homicide by D4vd, Not Allowed by TV Girl, Do I Wanna Know by Arctic Monkeys ect ect.) Now thats not to say those songs aren't good, but trying to say Spencer Reid would listen to them is crazy. Spencer "I only listen to classical music" Reid. If he listened to actual music with lyrics I think he'd like older music more. (Frank Sinatra, the smiths, the cure maybe specifically Boys Dont Cry, David Bowie, The smashing pumpkins.) That's not to say of course that he wouldn't like more modern music because I fully think he would like some of it. (Hozier, Djo, Alex G, peach pit, Bastille, Dominic fike.) I just don't think he'd be that into top 40 artists, I think he'd probably find a lot of their music repetitive and annoying. Thank you for coming to my Ted talk.

I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) HAS to play some time in season 1 right? It’s like the ultimate dad energy song and it fits perfectly for their objective

man how did akutagawa get into goth. my hc is that chuuya introduced him to alternative music. all kinds. he wanted to help akutagawa develop some sense of identity, to give him a comfort in life, something he can always count on, go back to when there's no one he can turn to, a way for him to process his emotions in a healthy manner, without violence, something that can make him feel like a human being for once and provide a space where he can exist not as "the hellhound of the port mafia" but as ryuunosuke akutagawa, the teenager.

and chuuya finds all of that in music. that's why he wanted to get akutagawa into it. he tried showing akutagawa his stuff but akutagawa was absolutely non-receptive, didn't care for chuuya's efforts to share this part of himself with akutagawa (bc akutagawa just can't fucking stand chuuya's taste lmao). but chuuya didn't give up bc he saw how much akutagawa needed this. bc really how can a person live without music; with just the thunder of their punishing thoughts or the sound of absolute silence bc there's just fucking no one there for them. if he himself can't reach akutagawa, he can help him finally discover something that can pass through his impenetrable walls of isolation and touch him. because that's an invaluable experience that everybody deserves to have. he was glad akutagawa at least continued to let him keep trying.

chuuya wasn't super familiar with goth music but he was at least aware of its existence. that's why, among other records of various genres, he got floodland by sisters of mercy.

akutagawa loved it. with the first song (dominion/mother russia) he went completely still and his full attention was on the record player. it was one of those clear top cd players where you can see the cd when it's in. imagine his little bug eyes following the spinning cd in complete awe. he was like that for the whole duration of the album. after it was over he immediately asked chuuya to play it again. and again. and aga-- then chuuya told him to just take it home with him. akutagawa was too embarrassed to agree. chuuya was very glad they had finally discovered something that really clicked so he wasn't letting this go. he told akutagawa he was not taking no for an answer and just shoved the cd into akutagawa's hands, storming out before akutagawa had a chance to protest any further.

from then on akutagawa secretly started buying himself more cds by various goth bands and slowly introducing goth clothes into his wardrobe. later on he transitioned to vinyl. now he has dozens of discographies on vinyl. he listens to them while he does calligraphy on his days off.

he still keeps his cds for during car rides on shared missions with chuuya. he still can't stand most of chuuya's music. chuuya is okay with gothic rock and dark wave but he needs his daily dose of metal to function. that's why they sometimes compromise by listening to gothic metal.

Part 1; MK Music HCs These have been haunting me for a while so enjoy!

Note: All these characters listed are MK11 versions, although I might make another one of these for MK1 later. Characters included are Johnny, Sonya, Jax, Liu Kang, Kung Lao, Raiden, and Kenshi. I will be posting other parts, this one was just getting reeeally long.

Johnny

He listens to a mix of 2010’s pop music and sad dad rock. You’ll hear him go from California Girls(Katy Perry) to Headstrong(TRAPT) to The Diary Of Jane(Breaking Benjamin) right back to Party In The USA(Miley Cyrus) and he will have no visible whiplash whatsoever. 

I think he’ll listen to whatever’s on as long as it sounds good, but he generally sticks to the aforementioned genres.

Sonya

She’s a Dolly Parton fan at heart, but she thinks it’s embarrassing and would rather be shot point blank than have anyone else find out. She doesn’t strike me as someone who would listen to much music in public, unless she needed to ignore outside noise to focus- in which case she would blare Breakcore music.

Jax

I don’t think he listens to music too much, but I can see him listening to club music to try and hype himself up. I think he would also enjoy a bit of classic rock(think Nirvana or Oasis), but probably wouldn’t seek it out other than changing the radio station. He seems like the guy who would rather let the radio play whatever for background noise than actually create a whole playlist.

Not technically music but it still kinda counts, I think he would listen to those ASMR videos where they pretend to do your hair or makeup- He has no urge to get his hair or makeup done but he finds them relaxing when he’s struggling to sleep.

Kenshi

He doesn’t like listening to music much, it distracts his senses and somewhat disorients him. The only time he really listens to music is when someone else is listening to it nearby. He won’t really complain, but he doesn’t care too much about it. He really dislikes heavy metal, above any other genre, although it's only because they tend to mess with his senses in a way he isn't comfortable with.

Liu Kang

He won't complain about any music that’s playing, but he only really listens to music on his own when he needs to focus. He’s partial to Vivaldi when it comes to classical music, but isn’t really picky when it comes to what he’s listening to as long as it aids him in focus.

Out of all the music that’s been played for him, he’s more drawn to music that has a sort of ‘hopeful in the face of hopelessness’ feeling to it. Songs similar to Let Go(Frou Frou) would probably be the type of music he prefers. He has a personal hatred against math rock, but he refuses to share it with anyone because he has no reason to dislike it other than thinking the time signatures are stupid.

Kung Lao

He also won’t openly complain about whatever music is playing, but he tends to gravitate towards a strange mix of sappy love songs and deceitfully cheerful suicidal songs. This Charming Man(The Smiths) and Vampire Empire(Big Thief) are definitely on his playlist, but I think he would also listen to Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Third Eye Blind, maybe even some Hollywood Undead if he was in a certain mood.

I don’t see him liking classical music too much, but he thinks the 1812 Overture is cool because of the canons. Tchaikovsky is the only classical music composer he respects.

Raiden

He pretends to not like modern music, staring off into the distance disapprovingly whenever Johnny tries to show him some of his music. I think he secretly likes 90s club music, but refuses to admit this to anyone. Unlike Sonya, he doesn’t even indulge in this he just balls it up inside because he thinks it’s ‘unbefitting’ of a god.

kunikida: black metal. (this makes me so happy for some reason, i always like it when ppl make kunikida a wild card)

chuuya: sludge🐌 metal lmao. but also. bro is the biggest NWOBHM enthusiast. loves thrash. loves groove metal. likes nu but prefers old school. the only one i hc as a full-on metalhead on this list (also maybe yosano)

yosano: gives me melodic death metal vibes for some reason (she could be into all types of death metal tbh. she's inherently metal. i love her sm, she's so cool)

akutagawa: gothic metal. you saw this coming from a mile away. but otherwise i don't think he's that big on metal tbh. which is good bc he'd be the biggest metal elitist ever. calls you a poser in victorian child speak.
