"What’s bothering you?" asked a female voice. I looked up to see Mary, who had a worried expression on her face. In response, I hummed. "You look like you want to start a fight," she said. "Oh," I mumbled. I cast a glance into the distance, where Sirius and Marlene were clearly flirting. I swallowed and cleared my throat. "I am fine, just a little under the weather," I explained, smiling. I returned my gaze to the couple. Mary smirked as she followed my gaze. "Ahh!” she exclaimed, returning my gaze. "Now I know what the problem is," she teased. I avert my gaze in embarrassment.
"You’re jealous," she chuckled. "I am not," I say, my face flushed. She is amused by my reaction. "I mean, I get it; I would be jealous too," she shrugged. "Months of him teasing and making flirty jokes with you, and then boom, he suddenly flirts with another girl; if that is not mixed signals, I do not know what is." I fell silent at her words, rethinking his recent actions. Mary had noticed my silence. "Hey," she said. "I was only kidding," she said as I straightened my back. She was about to say something when a voice interrupted her. "Hello ladies," a voice said.
"Hi Sirius," Mary replied. I stare at Mary blankly, uninterested in Sirius's presence. "Well, I guess I should... leave you two. I just remembered Dorcas needed help with her dress. Uhm...bye," she bolted as quickly as she could. "What is her problem?" Sirius mused. "Haven't you heard her?" I retorted sarcastically. Sirius smirked, clearly unconcerned by my demeanour. He made no attempt to hide his laughter. "Woah, what is up your ass now, Y/N/N?" he teased. He knew I despised the nickname he gave me. I glared at him. "Stop that," I said. "Stop what?" he asked, grinning.
"I swear to Merlin, Sirius Black, if you keep doing that, I’m going to kick you where the sun doesn’t shine," I threatened. "I know you have a bad mouth, but threats?" he inquired. "You’re upset," he said. I scoffed, rolling my eyes. "No sh*t, Sherlock," I exclaimed before realizing who I was speaking to. I closed my eyes in shame. "May I know who irritated my lovely princess?" I could hear the tease in his tone. I open my eyes to see him giggling. Flirt. I thought to myself. "It is none of your concern," I snarled.
"Come on, tell me, and maybe I will punch them in the face," he said, shrugging. His words make me scoff. "Sure, punch the girl you were flirting with earlier," I said as I slapped my hand across my mouth. My mouth, oh my mouth. I cursed my own stupidity. I cast a glance at Sirius. He was having fun with it. He declared, "You are jealous." He laughs and says, "That is why you’re mad." "Stop talking," I muttered. "Don’t be grumpy; you’re still my number one," he joked. I stood up to leave, but I found myself sitting back down again. He pulled me down to his side. He simply stared at my face without saying anything. My brows furrowed in confusion. I was about to say something when he unexpectedly smiled at me.
"No way!” he exclaimed, his grin stretching from ear to ear. "You’re actually jealous." I tightened my lips, attempting to play it cool while rolling my eyes to conceal the telltale flush on my cheeks. "Oh my god!" He burst into laughter, a mischievous smirk dancing on his lips. "You so are."
Glaring at him with feigned annoyance, I hoped he didn't catch on to how crimson I had become under his relentless teasing. Ignoring my silent protest, he took a deep breath, maintaining that infuriating grin as he said, "Okay, okay." His gaze lingered on me, his ridiculous behavior prompting an involuntary shake of my head.
"Would you like a drink?" he inquired, attempting to shift the focus. Unable to resist, I shot back, "Why don't you ask Marlene?" His response echoed through the room, "Don't worry, Y/N/N! You're the only one I have my eyes on," as I turned to leave him behind. A triumphant grin spread across my face, revelling in the playful banter.
Despite the irritation he often provoked, I couldn't deny the goodness of his intentions. Meeting him had added a unique spark to my days, making me feel genuinely special. He was undeniably a sweetheart, and I cherished the fact that he could break through my tough exterior. He's become my favourite, but of course, I'd never admit it to him. That would only fuel his ego further. My smile widened at the thought, savouring the complexity of our dynamic.

This had to be one of the more moronic pranks that Potter and his gang of misfits had played. Despite her dismay at the sight before her, Lily found herself giggling behind the palm of her hand.
Floating in giant bubbles and bouncing off the ceiling of the great hall was the entire Slytherin quidditch team. They fumbled and rolled and fell on their own faces as they tried dismally to gain control of the giant orbs. Their attempts certainly weren’t aided by the Gryffindor Team, who in their own orbs seemed to have much greater control, and were using them like bumper cars. Sending Slytherins this way and that.
“I’m gonna go out on a limb here and guess this is why Potter was asking you for help with his bubblehead charm,” Mary Macdonald mused, giving Lily an affectionate jab with her elbow.
“This is not what I meant about him focusing on his strategy for the next match.”

Se tinha uma coisa que Mary Macdonald amava mais do que a própria Ann Wilson em carne e osso, era aula de poções! Ela demorou muito a ser uma aluna aplicada nessa arte, uma vez que certas poções eram difíceis de serem criadas sem ganhar no mínimo uma queda capilar repentina ou uma boa de uma explosão de fumaça na cara - não dizendo que Mary ficou careca por suas tentativas, mas, ela soube de uma segundanista que ficou... “Todo mundo sempre se fere com os espinhos.” Ao que falava em seu tom de voz baixo e gentil, mostrava para Sirius a rosa recém-cortada sobre a mesa, com caule e tudo. “Mas, se for notar, todos sempre tiram a flor primeiro. Então, faça assim, ao invés de desmanchar as pétalas logo, deixe a cabeça, segure nessa ponta” Mary segurava a rosa com os dedos firmes e revezava olhares entre o Black e o que fazia, para mostrá-lo como ela mesma fazia. “e então vá descascando todo o caule. Os espinhos vão despregar eventualmente e você vai precisar amassá-los. Geralmente eu tento deixar eles bem esmigalhados, porque assim facilita a dissolução na mistura.” Enquanto falava, ia exibindo ao outro da mesma forma, até que o entregou para concluir o que já estava fazendo outrora. “E aí, quando tiver feito tudo isso, pode arrancar a rosa e amassar as pétalas também. E acho que é só isso, não é?” Olhou em volta na mesa, suspirando fundo como se tivessem concluído um trabalho muito demorado. “Já colocamos o pó da pedra de lua, hortelã... É, é só isso mesmo. Entendeu tudo?”

Pretty But Potent
When James had conversationally mentioned his father planned to take him and Sirius to the Alnwick Garden in Northumberland during the holidays he hadn’t thought it worthy of much note. His father was always carting the family off to some garden or other as a devoted potioneer for the better part of his life, and his mother enjoyed the colourful blooms. However the look of utter jealousy that crossed Lily Evans face as he said it shook him.
“Merlin, I'd love to go to Alnwick.” She groaned as she turned to look forlornly out the window of the Hogwarts express. “But there’s no way my parents would let me go on an unsupervised trip and there’s no chance in hell Petunia would ever take me.”
“Really?” James asked inquisitively.
“I’d love to visit the poison garden. Sev and I always talked about going but…” Lily trailed off.
The implication was clear enough. The friendship between her and Snape had been non-existent since the previous year after the incident after exams. She’d even taken on an unlikely new potions partner in Peter just to escape hours brewing alone in the dungeon with Severus Snape. Something which irked Snape to no end, but was graciously accepted by Peter who’d vastly improved his potion grades since.
“Well we could always ask Dad if you can come? Right Prongs?” Sirius nudged James with a crooked elbow.
“Oh yeah. We can ask him on the platform so your parents can meet mine? Dad’ll just be happy to have another pair of ears to natter off.” James agreed.
“Could you really?” She asked excitedly, turning her attention away from the window.
Remus exchanged a knowing look with Sirius. The pair of them had gotten so sick of James' constant unrequited pinning they’d made a point of trying to get Lily and James hanging out more together. Especially after Peter had made it known he was going to romantically pursue Lily’s friend Mary. Which is how they all become crammed in one carriage on the way to Platform 9 ¾ in the first place.
“Perhaps we could make a day of it?” Remus mused.
While Fleamont Potter had been surprised by his sons’ request to add a gaggle of other teenagers to their trip to Alnwick, he could hardly say no. He and his wife had been paraded around platform 9 ¾ from one end to the next meeting the parents of Peter Pettigrew, Remus Lupin, Dorcas Meadowes, Mary MacDonald and Marlene McKinnon. Some of which he had already met and others he had not. Each in turn had also been surprised to discover their children's sudden interest in horticulture but pleased to hear of a supervised afternoon out. The last of the parents to speak to was that of Lily Evans, a girl who Fleamont was very much aware of being James' school crush. She was just as bright as James had described her and he could see why his son had such a fondness for her. The Potter men had always had a thing for redheads.
“Alright Lily, you next. Can you spot your parents?” Euphimea Potter asked kindly.
“Oh. They’ll be on the muggle side of the station. My sister refuses to come through the barrier.” Lily explained.
“Not to worry dear. We will follow you though.”
Lily led the train of the Potter’s and Sirius into the muggle side of King's Cross station. She had introduced her parents to plenty of Wizarding parents before, but never those of a boy. She felt rather foolish in doing so in hindsight, especially as she had often reported home how much she and James Potter didn’t get on with one another. But it was too late to back out now all her other friends were going on the trip. The Evans stood towards the southern end of platform 9 where they usually stood out the way to greet their daughter. Petunia sat glumly on the end of a park bench looking as though she’d rather be anywhere but here.
“Mum, Dad, This is Euphemia and Fleamont Potter.” Lily introduced the adults.
“How’d you do?” replied Charles Evans shaking the hand of each parent in turn followed by his wife.
“I’m Laurel and this is my husband Charles” Mrs Evans greeted.
“Lily is interested in joining us on a trip to the Alnwick Garden in Northumberland next weekend. We appear to have collected quite the flock as we have five other kids from the school coming too. If it’s alright with you we would be happy to take her.” Fleamont explained joyfully.
“Oh I don’t see why not.” replied Laurel. “We can pop Lily on the train so long as you’re happy to collect her at the opposite end and return her to the train at the end of the day.”
James was so happy he thought his heart might just explode out of his chest seeing the grin on Lily’s face. He could barely contain his glee right up until they stood on the train platform to collect each of his friends a week later.
“Aye, Aye. Just warning ya. Prongs is well and truly on one. He’s not shut up about this all week” Sirius whispered to Remus and Peter as they joined the growing crowd on the platform.
“Figures.” Said Peter
“I chatted to Marlene and Dorcas on the train and let them know what’s what. Mary and Lily are riding in together. When they get here we’ll try to stick them together with James and Pete and we’ll stick together” Remus added.
James, true to his nature acted just as giddy all the way to the acres of colourful plants inviting visitors to wander through rows of fragrant roses, manicured topiaries and cascading fountains. He was barely listening to a word his father was spouting despite Lily’s apparent interest in what the older Potter had to say about potion brewing. He was just happy to come along for the ride. To enter the poison garden that Lily had been so enraptured about they had to enter through a set of ornamental black iron gates with the words ‘These plants can kill’ embossed on the front. They followed a tour guide under an iron archway woven with dark green ivy.
The tour stopped as the guide came to a fork in the path and started to explain the garden's history and use for horticultural study. James and Lily had come to stand beside a set of small trees, with many-branched trunks. There were several large, pendulous, trumpet-shaped flowers, sprouting from these trees in shades of white, yellow, pink, orange, green, and red. James was watching closely as Lily admired one of the orange blooms. The flower was beautiful and its smell was heavenly. Unfortunately, it was also deadly.
“Angel’s Trumpets” Lily said softly. “They belong to the nightshade family. They have quite a dark history in the muggle and wizarding world.”
“Oh?”
“In the wizarding world they’re generally used for divination or dark magic. In Victorian England, muggle women used to put pollen from the flowers in their tea to induce hallucinations. But in South America where they originate they’re often used in medical poultices and religious rituals. They’ve also been used to drug wives and slaves before they were buried alive with their dead masters.” Lily shuddered.
“Pretty but potent” Mr Evans murmured.
As James stared at Lily rather than the flowers he silently agreed. Pretty but potent.
