Tumblr media
It's dark. So dark that the street lights do not provide much luminance to see the words on the sign above the entrance to the hotel. The rain from earlier in the day made the air muggy on this autumn night. You are trying hard to see ahead of you, but the fog has made it difficult. Groaning, you reach into your Jean pocket for the small piece of paper with the address written on it.
As you bring it up to your eyes, you see that you are indeed in the tight place. However, it is not as you expected it to be.
You were expecting this grand hotel. Not this rundown, building in the middle of spookyville. If someone were to go missing, this was the place. The atmosphere alone was speaking to you. Yes, this was the perfect place for inspiration for your next book.
After all, you were a world-renowned murder/mystery author.
Most, if not all, of your books were inspired by places you have visited around the world. It was no surprise that your books were on par with Agatha Christie, but you were stuck on this next one. Your publisher was urging you to write your next book, but you were burnt out from publishing book after book.
You were here for the local Oddities and Curiosities convention as a guest speaker. Except your hotel was not as lavish as the convention organizers said it was. Oh well, at least you did not have to pay for it.
You swallowed as you felt like you were the victims of one of your own stories. This had to be a stupid decision. Maybe you should have politely declined their offer of free lodgings. Next time you will be more mindful of that.
The buzz of the lights in the outdated lobby was the setting of a movie you had seen once. Not a particularly good movie, but it was still enough to set you on edge. There were two chairs up against the mint colored walls with a table in between them. The dim lighting almost made everything look like some insane asylum. Even the white linoleum floor gave you this uncomfortable dread. The long hallway before you stretched on for an eternity. It invited you into some horror you could not explain as it rolled in your belly.
DING!
The feeling vanished as you felt yourself nearly jump out of your skin. You turn around to see a man standing at the reception desk. He was leaning against it with his back turned to you.
"Yo! Anyone there?" He said. You noticed he was dressed rather odd. A red coat, leather pants, and boots. The other strange thing was the color of his hair. "Service really stinks around here." He scoffed as he stood up straight. "They tell you it's a five-star hotel, then this shit happens." You knew he was talking to you when he turned his head to the side.
"It could be worse." The words popped out of your mouth. "For all I know, this could be some H.H. Holmes bullshit hotel." You knew the story about the famous Chicago murder hotel in the 1890's. You wrote a fantastic historical fiction novel about it. "Next thing you know, you fall into a vat of acid or something." There was a short laugh from the man with the white hair.
"Heh, I've seen worse." He turned around to look at you. "You look like the type to be into that sort of thing anyway." You shrugged.
"I know a thing or two." After all, you spent countless hours of research on all sorts of egregious crimes. He nodded, probably not really interested in what you were there for in the first place. "Actually, I need to check in."
"Well, I'd go find a better place if I were you." Obviously, but you were a bit on the poor side at the moment. No new book, and you spent most of your money fixing up your Victorian home. "Service is lacking, and there is no bar." A bar was essential for your work to begin.
There was the sound of someone clearing their throat. Both you and the stranger in red turned to the direction of the sound to see another man. This man was peculiar. He was just as tall as the odd man you were speaking to, but he was as pale as a dead body. Black hair swept back with as much hair gel that could be mustered to keep those locks in check. He was certainly gaunt withp his cheekbones poking out like sharp alabaster. The dark circles under his eyes also did not help his appearance either.
Just looking at the man gave you a distrustful feeling.
"May I be of assistance?" You gulp at the sight of the man behind the reception desk. He gives you a blank stare. You swear up and down that you are in some kind of dream, but you know you are not. You shake off the tingling feeling going down your back as you look to the red clad stranger you were speaking with earlier. He shrugs with a small smirk on his lips.
"Uh... yes, sorry." You pull out your phone with your reservation details already up on the screen. The receptionist only looks down with his eyes as you put your phone on the desk. "I'm here for the convention. My room should already be paid for the weekend."
"Ah yes... the Author." The gaunt man said with a drill voice that dragged out each syllable. He reminded you of Professor Snape from Harry Potter. The slow retort was enough to make you really wonder if you had stepped into some alternate reality.
The grunt from the man next to you said otherwise.
"Uh, yeah, I'm here for the Oddities and Curiosities Convention." You took your phone from the desk and put it in your back pocket. "The convention people were supposed to pay for all of my expenses."
"Yes, everything is paid in full." The half lidded dark eyes of the man across from you seemed to be staring out into nothing as he turned over a page in the log book. Was this place not up to date? Everything was... old fashioned. "Please wait." It was as if the man were a robot as he promptly turned away.
"Seems like everything here is all analog." You made the observation as you saw the old television sitting on a table in the corner behind the desk. "Even that TV looks like it's straight out of the 60's." You told the stranger you met earlier.
"That's nothing, you should see the rooms." He pointed over his shoulder towards the hall. "Rotary phones and vibrating beds with coin slots." That was really bad. And gross, but he looked pretty jovial about it. "It's like I'm back in the late 80's." You were not sure if you should run far away or not.
"I'm really glad I brought disinfectant spray." You thought about the can of Lysol you normally carried around for reasons like this. It was safely stored in your backpack. You traveled light, only bringing what you really needed with you. "Can't do anything about the bed bugs though."
"If it makes you feel any better, at least the sheets are clean." Thank the heavens for that. There was one saving grace about meeting the man you were standing there with.
"Are you here for the convention too?" You asked him. You were curious about why someone dressed like him was actually there.
"Nah, just in town for a job." He seemed to be dismissive of the whole thing. "My client is paying for the weekend, but said client hasn't shown up yet."
"That sucks." You wondered what kind of work the man did. He was definitely dressed for something a bit more lucrative. Red coat, faded Henley, and not to mention the guns. Two guns. .45 caliber. Custom made.
You knew guns only by the research you did for your books. He had to be some kind of undercover agent or assassin... something like that. This was giving you some ideas for your next book at least.
"Here is your key." The receptionist came back slamming the key on the counter to grab your attention. "Your room is on the second floor. Breakfast is provided until 9 AM." You hesitantly took the key while trying not to show you were slightly perturbed by the zombie across from you. "Enjoy your stay." He said slowly and ominously.
"Thanks... I guess." You looked at the man you had been talking to before with a bit of nervousness. "See you around."
"Yeah. I'm sure we'll run into each other again." He gave a mock salute with a smirk before turning his attention to the zombie receptionist.
You slowly made your way up to your room. The elevator was apparently out of order, so you took the stairs. Thankfully the second floor was not too bad. It had a different theme going on. Instead of mint green walls, they were more of a salmon color with brown and orange accents. It could be much worse.
Once you found your room, you unlocked the door and opened it. The guy downstairs was right. It was pretty bad, but at least it did not smell like an old musty hotel. It was actually not that bad. The bed definitely had a coin mechanism, but at least it looked comfy with the beige linens and brown comforter.
At least the shower was in working order.
You threw your back pack on the red chair in the corner before getting ready for bed. Tomorrow you were going to have breakfast, then you had to be at the convention center for ten.
You were sleeping pretty well until you heard something strange coming from the vent above your bed. A strange ticking sound had made its way into your dreams before pulling you to the land of the living. The ticking was not like a clock. It was more like little finger nails tapping on the vent. The rhythm of it had you sleepless for the rest of the night.
Until it stopped at 5AM on the dot.
You were tired when you rolled out of bed at 7. Your feet dragged as you made your way to the bathroom to get ready for the day. Brushing your teeth had been a slow process as you stared into the mirror. Your eyes had dark circles under them indicating your three or so hours of sleep were not enough. Your eyes were slightly bloodshot from being awake as well.
Hopefully you would get a better rest when you returned from the convention.
Going down the stairs was an endeavor. You held on to the railing for dear life as you made your way to the first floor. You were in desperate need of caffeine and you really hoped the coffee at the breakfast bar was adequate enough for your refined tastes. If not, you could always find a Starbucks on the way to the convention.
Once you finally made your way to the first floor, you found the breakfast room. It came as a surprise to see there were five other people there.
The one you recognized first was the man with the red coat you had spoken to last night. He was sitting quietly at a table practically inhaling his waffles while another man sat in front of him. The two men were similar in features which clearly made them related. While the man in red was more relaxed, the one sitting across looked as though he was losing his patience.
Oh well, eggs and bacon were calling you.
You did notice a man and woman giving each other the cold shoulder as they ate their breakfast. The couple was in their early thirties at most and sat two chairs down from each other. It was obvious they were having a silent fight with each other. She would glance at him with hurtful eyes every now and then.
Then there was the older woman quietly sitting at the table by the window with a book in her hand. Her glasses were on the tip of her nose as she sat there. Her dark skin hinted at her Sub-Saharan ancestors. You admired her poise as she sat there eating and enjoying her book. A book which you had written almost ten years ago.
She must be there for the convention as well.
Just as you were dropping spoonful of scrambled eggs on your plate, a scream rang out through the entire first floor.
All at once, everyone in the room stopped moving and turned their attention to the hallways outside. Your immediate instinct was to find out where that scream originated from, so you took your plate and headed out of the room.
Being the true crime fanatic that you were, you followed the wailing sound of a woman who was in obvious distress. Turning left down another corridor, you saw her kneeling on the linoleum floor with her hands over her mouth as she cried. You did not even bother to put your plate down as you stepped closer to the red headed woman sitting on the floor.
"Are you okay, Miss?" She did not turn to look at you as she began to shake uncontrollably. You noticed there was a puddle of blood in the doorway as you moved closer. "Miss?"
"He's... dead." The woman muttered out while still staring into the room she was about to enter. You crept ever so slowly to look inside, but what you saw made you drop your plate.
It was a blood bath.
The whole room was coated in blood. The body of a man had been contorted in an unnatural way. It was something you had never seen or heard about before in any case. Murder like this was not murder, but something else entirely.
"What the hell?" Was all you heard before you suddenly found yourself being pulled from the scene by a hand on your arm.

Devil May Cry Verse
( mostly the 5th game since that takes place after Persona 5 / Persona 5 Royal / Scramble ).
NOTES
Persona Users: Not commonly known throughout the world, they mainly exist in Japan. Are considered SUMMONERS since they deal with summoning demons, god, and angels to fight terrors that roam the planet. Only appear in time of need or when the world is about to end. Supernatural events on a long scale are usually handled by the SHADOW OP CORPS, headed by Mitsuru Kirijo. Founded in 2010, has gained some type of credibility and fame. Not as well-known as the Demon Hunters Association, headed by Skins and Fujiwara or other independent groups such as Devil May Cry.
Wildcards: After the massive battle of 1999, only a few remained that could summon more than just one persona. These are special cases, wielding such great potential and power. These are handed out at random and not chosen by bloodlines, unless there is an emergency that calls Philemon, creator of the Velvet Room, to do so. Only two wildcards remain.
Summoning: Persona Users summon in different ways but the end result is always the same. Most just call out their names but sometimes it can be somewhat unique. Some use an evoker ( third generation persona users ), others crush a card ( fourth generation persona users ) and finally, some rip off masks that adorn their faces in a bloody gruesome scene ( fifth generation persona users ).
TIMELINE
1974- Katsuya Suou, Akira’s father, is born.
1976- Maya Amano, Akira’s mother, is born. So are two half human / half demon twins, Vergil and Dante Sparda in another part of the world ( and yes, it’s canon that this was the year that they were born, Scary coincidence huh? ).
1981- Tatsuya Suou, Akira’s uncle, is born. 1982- Jun Kurosu, Tatsuya’s life partner, is born. Marries into the Suou family in later years and becomes Akira’s uncle. 1984- The tragedy at the Sparda’s home happens. The house is consumed by flames and only one twin is said to survive the ordeal.
1989- Maya, Tatsuya, and Jun become friends. In the same year, Maya awakens her Persona, along with Tatsuya in the burning shrine sat on fire by Tatsuya Sudou. Jun is said to become corrupted by a space demon god made into existence by mankind itself, Nyarlathotep and becomes JOKER. Reeks havoc, chaos, and turns the landscape into a place for demons to roam in Japan for years.
1993- Minato Arisato / Minako Arisato, the first wildcard, is born.
1994- Events of the third Devil May Cry game takes place.
1995- Nero de Angelo is born. In that same year, Yu Narukami, the second wildcard, is born.
1999- A team of persona users defeats Nyarlathotep at last, consisting of Maya, Katsuya, Tatsuya, Jun, who had gotten cleansed of the JOKER curse put upon him, and a few others. Maya almost dies from a terrible wound but gets saved in time to have herself healed by the power of the combined team’s willpower. However, not everything is well since Maya afterwards has terrible nightmares that haunt her every so often, of the world stuck in a destroyed universe and has pained heart conditions because of this. In that same year, Death, also known as the goddess Nyx, is sealed into the wildcard Minato Arisato / Minako Arisato at the age of 6 by A.I.G.I.S. Peace is slowly returning to normal but for only a short time.
2000- Akira Amano-Suou, the third wildcard, is born. The power vacuum created by destroying Nyarlathotep gets replaced by another source of chaos, the God of Control also known as Yaldabaoth. Evil demon god born from the corrupted wishes of humanity and is known to be the equivalent of the holy grail of legend. Philemon picked Akira as a wildcard, even after the wishes of his parents pleaded with the entity not to do so, saying that the child was the savior of humanity.
2001- Events of the first Devil May Cry game takes place.
2002 or 2003???- Events of the 2nd Devil May Cry game takes place.
2008- Events of the fourth Devil May Cry game takes place.
2009- Nyx / Death is summoned back into the world through the tower called Tartarus. Minato Arisato / Minako Arisato and the group SEES are able to defeat said goddess but at the cost of the first wildcard’s life, turning into a seal. Ryoji Mochizuki is reincarnated as a regular human and A.I.G.I.S. is still considered a Chariot based persona user.
2010- The Shadow OPS CORPS is established and founded by Mitsuru Kirijo, due to guilt of not saving their leader and a mission to protecting humans from disastrous otherworldly events.
2011- Yu Narukami gets sent to Inaba, Japan to live with his uncle Ryotaro and cousin Nanako. In that same year, him and his investigation team solve the mysterious murders and the supernatural fog that surrounds the town in the fall and winter months. Marie ( more like Mary Sue ) does not exist and the final demon god is Izanami / the gas station attendant the 2nd wildcard meets during his first day in Inaba. Yu Narukami returns home shortly after this.
2012 to 2013- Persona Arena and Persona Ultimax takes place. Persona users clash and fight one on one in a tournament setting. Mostly due to demon / supernatural forces but those eventually get defeated by the 3rd and 4th generation persona users in the finale.
2016- Akira, going by the false last name of Kurusu, gets sent to Tokyo on probation. Falsely charged and forced to be shipped off into the big city, he lives in Yongen-Jaya with his guardian, Sojiro Sakura. Awakens to his persona, Arsene, and gets a codename, that being Joker. Hates the name because of the implications with it from the past. With café LeBlanc being both his new home and hideout, him and his friends also known as the infamous phantom thieves steal the hearts of the corrupted and then finally shoot the God of Control in the face, killing the evil deity once in for all.
However, the power vacuum still exists after the annihilation of  Yaldabaoth and falls upon Takuto Maruki, making him a false god. Creating a new reality, everyone is trapped in this world and leading blissful lives except for Akira and Goro Akechi. Thanks to efforts of Akira finally able to break his friends out of the dreams that they were caught in and Akechi’s refusal to be used as a manipulation tactic for Maruki in order for Akira to take the deal to live in the fake world, the group is finally able to return to the original reality. Akechi doesn’t make the trip back and dies, already being dead in the original reality. Akira returns home shortly after this but still believes his rival will return someday, thanks to the true ending. Akira either has a relationship with Haru Okumura, Sumire Yoshizawa, Hifumi Togo, or Shiho Suzui during this time and will carry over in later years.
2017- Events of Persona 5 Scramble takes place. Two more persona users are added to Akira’s own team. After parting ways, Akira focuses on his dream job, whether that is an actor or race car driver is only up to him.
2017-2018???- Events of the fifth Devil May Cry series takes place.
Akira is visiting Ann overseas and gets pulled into the mess of the story when trying to get back home to Japan. Meets V during this time and thinks the mystery guy is a persona user thanks to the three demons the man has but is promptly shut down. Despite the misunderstanding, the two have somewhat aligned goals and proceed ahead.  The two surprisingly get along well and Akira takes a shine to one of the three demon pets that helps V fight, aka Griffon.
Akira meets the DMC gang ( Nico, Nero, and Lady ) in Nico’s van after a certain point and gets the majority of what exactly has happened. He agrees to help as much as he can since Akira can’t leave the supernatural charged land for some odd reason. Finally meets Dante and the two don’t really seem to get along, mainly due to Akira having the same aura as the Demifiend that Dante chased through a maze in a different dimension. After a few fights, they call a truce and try to work with everyone else, Trish joins the group at this point, to stop the already looming threat.
Doesn’t get to see the final battle but is told by the only one that makes it towards the top, Nero, that Dante wanted him to look over his shop sometimes since the other two were stuck in hell. This baffles everyone else, especially Akira, not really knowing why since him and Dante were always clashing. He somewhat agrees, only because there was acting schools oddly not too far away. He secretly hopes that the promise / deal is only temporary because he would like to go back home at some point and start a new life away from all of this dealing with demons / gods / supernatural bullshit.

Higurashi, Lent and the Martyrs
Tumblr media
Where did it all go wrong? As the events of Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (When They Cry) reset again and again to square one, like an inadvertent Goundhog Day, protagonist Keiichi Mabara repeatedly asks himself this question. Caught in a murder spree of some sort or another, with a different friend of his group involved each time, touches that suggest that something not of this world may be going on. The small village of Himinazawa, with its cornfields and its forests, the countryside school with only a few children, the small clinic, the restaurant, and the local festival of Watanagashi provide the environment of this tightly-constructed horror story of an evil to be released when the cidadas cry.
Tumblr media
I should probably begin by pointing out that Higurashi is a quite gory show, full of spilled blood, crushing sounds, and entrails—so gory I almost dropped it twice—with an eerie atmosphere in its everyday scenes (sort of like Serial Experiments Lain—a little too pale, a little too bright). It features compelling characters whose personalities unveil in time; themes of child abuse and estrangement, superstition, torture, mental illness, demonic possesion and murder; and the intelligent planning that the works based on 07th Expansion Visual Novels always deliver, toying with different horror story or murder mystery explanations for the events shown again and again from different perspectives.
Despite this, and of it reminding me of Erased, one of my favorite series, at times I could barely put up with the show: If I didn’t drop it just like Medieval Otaku did a year ago, it was only because I cheated and I investigated some aspects of the story beforehand (and not even that got me through Umineko, the other 07th Expansion horror classic), and I knew that the story valued these characters and was invested in saving them in some way, and not just quartering them psychologically or literally for the thrill of it, as does the infamous “torture porn.”
Tumblr media
While I’m still not sure if I like it as a whole, it surely has provided me something to think about just before the Lenten season. After all, the original Lent story also has to do with an unspeakable evil confronting Our Lord when He was physically and mentally pushed to the extreme, an evil that frequently crushes us with its deceit and its horror, and of an unlikely plan of salvation that may bring us the truth about ourselves and others, confronting an evil that transcends time with an even more powerful force, uniting and bringing us salvation. And for us here and now on this Earth, Lent is also a cycle, a year-to-year repetition in the midst of our everyday world as the feast of Watanagashi and the perpetually resetting world of Higurashi are in different ways.
The cycle of Lent and the challenges we face, some self-imposed, some external, are thus an opportunity to meditate and remember what kind of story we are living, benefiting from the knowledge of our previous iterations; what lies and illusions may we, or the world around us, be trapped into, and what should we fight to change in the path of conversion; to fight the kind of devils that do not go out except by prayer and fasting; and to repent and take a different path. And some of it depends on the way we live the path towards the feast—which even if the Good Friday and Watanagashi are almost opposites, involves in both cases a cruel sacrifice and a hidden meaning—on the way we celebrate it, and on the way we live its consequences. As pilgrimage, in a way Lent represents our life on Earth as a whole, marked by grief, evil, love, and hope.
Tumblr media
Just as some shows are to be enjoyed from the beginning to the end, some are to be endured at times if you want to reach what they want to tell you. Bokurano, Casshern Sins, Now and then, here and there and Madoka, along with Haruhi Suzumiya´s Endless Eight arc, are the examples that come to mind. What is particularly interesting both in Higurashi and the Lenten season is that the not-so-pleasant moments of either horror and fasting (from food, meat or other good things we may chose to postpone for a time) have the purpose of taking Keiichi (and us) away from the delusions of self-sufficiency of the rich man of the parable of Lazarus and to our true mission, to “unblock” aspects of our embodied reality and the reality of the world we may never come to see otherwise. Because there is true evil acting here and now, evil that may twist our personal stories, and the way out goes through friendship and community, soul searching and repentance, devotion to the truth and help from the transcendent.
I will discuss now some specific parallels which will reveal some aspects of the plot. So spoilers ahead for the horrific first and second season of Higurashi (When they cry).
Tumblr media
Something that struck me was how from the very first arc, the characters I had come to like suddenly felt threatening in the course of a scene. Sometimes it is an illusion; sometimes they are in effect falling into the fated role of the killer, some seemingly possessed, others affected by the Syndrome, their traumas, or such overwhelming pressure that they lose it. Familiar faces suddenly look unfamiliar, words become harsh, ugly sentiments come to light and the behavior of Mion, Shion, Rena, Keiichi, and Rika, become dark or even demonic. Twisted parts of their personal stories are revealed. It seems that we never knew them at all. The rest of the characters become afraid for themselves. It is especially unsettling when this happens to the POV protagonist, who we were identifying with, sharing his or her struggles, as Keiichi in Sakoto’s arc or Shion in hers. This kind of reveal happens in real life, too.
Yet we must never forget that in a world of sinners, the worst enemies are inside us, and we and our loved ones are affected by that evil. Sin is indeed dark, and the evil we see is only its manifestation: the root of all evil lives in the heart, not in the external realities of the world. And yet, in the heart there is also thirst for God, a desire to be saved. Those are the people Our Lord loves, heals, and redeems, the people we are called to love. Just as He healed those who were possessed, He inspires our faith in Him to forgive our sins and give us a path. As Keiichi slowly comes to learn in the course of the different arcs, whenever we are afraid of the evil in ourselves and in others, the call of loving and receiving God´s love becomes specially urgent.
Tumblr media
Another parallel is found in the path given. Rika Furude, the priest of Oyashiro-sama, turns to be in true connection to the deity, and keeps the memories of all the previous iterations. Thus she knows what will happen beforehand. Yet she is human, one of the group, each of whose members have a different vocation to protect the others, from Satoshi’s bat to the detective skills of Rena. Just like that, in this world in which good and evil, and love and sin transcend time and space, the Church and the Scriptures hand down to us what lies beyond the apparent. This brings us a community, too, whose members have the gifts we need, while we have some they need. Only from there may we overcome a darkness that would devour us were we to combat it with our own force.
Tumblr media
Lastly, I was impressed by how explicitly pagan the world of Himinazawa is. Far from the usual Shinto traditions are presented without much thought in most anime series, the cult of Oyashiro-sama is a true self-adoration by the Himinazawa community akin to that of totemic cultures. The true Oyashiro-sama turns out to be benign and eventually part of the gang, just as the real God could not be more different from the idols of the pagans, for they project in them the darkness of their own hearts. For all purposes, she is as forgotten as the Unknown God St. Paul told the Athenians about, and the one who is revered is the statue at the forbidden sanctuary full of instruments of torture.
The way of life of the inhabitants of the village is marked by harsh traditions such as infanticide of the twins. The dance at the Watanashi festival represents the ritual human sacrifice of old, the rule of the three families sometimes entails severe group pressure, and superstition is rampant, along with which seem to be demonic possessions. They are not, but rather paranoia and illusions caused by the Himinazawa Syndrome and narratively something more akin to the self-closure caused by sinking into different sins, from lack of faith to the lust of revenge. Not demonic possession, but demonic temptation. Keiichi, though a stranger, is involved in it all. In that way, he is similar to the first Christians in the Pagan world, including the Apostles, who were often killed in gruesome ways, some of them too gory for even Higurashi to depict. Influenced by the demonic, the hate of the worshippers of the idols towards Christians of all ages often reaches dimensions which seem impossible, as Our Lord told us that will happen. For if the Master has been persecuted, the disciples will be persecuted too.
Tumblr media
But Christians know that the path of the martyrs is not one of tragedy and despair, but, like the deaths at Higurashi, precisely a mysterious way of joining Christ at the Cross and saving others. Loving the very executioners that kill them, aided by Providence, they are giving testimony of a love greater than the prince of this world and crossing a door which will lead them to Christ´s Resurrection, just as it lead them throughout Christ´s Passion. In the penultimate episode of the first season, it’s shown that the hopeful path of Higurashi started with a sacrifice: under the bat of a maddened Keiichi, Rena extended her hand towards him and offered love and friendship until the end. He didn’t even notice at the time, but twenty episodes later, this memory came back to show him the first step of a way out for him and for her, and for the others, too. In different arcs, Satoko and Rika did the same. And many have done the same for their tormentors, for their loved ones and for us. And there is life at the other side.
=====
Higurashi can be streamed on Netflix and Hulu.

Currently, the top Netflix series trending includes Orange is The New Black, On My Block, Lucifer, FRIENDS and a handful of movies including Wind River, Hell or Highwater, APOLLO 13 and Boyhood.
Gaga: Five Foot Two is at the very top of the most popular documentaries, as well as Abducted In Plain Sight.
Because of this, we wanted to take a deeper dive into what’s trending on Netflix.
On My Block Rating: 4.8/5 Premiered: Mar 16, 2018 Platform: Netflix
POSITIVE CELEBRITIES TAKE ON THE SHOW
On My Block features characters, you will love instantly as you watch them face the harsh realities of life. The characters bring you laughter, tears, and even shock. The emotions put into this popular Netflix series was well planned.
Viewers might think the plot is going to take a particular turn but in our case, all we could do is scream “WHAT?!” each time the show took a new turn.
To be specific, one user on a Reddit discussion about On My Block opened about the series with those who also binge-watched the show.
“That ending was unexpected and completely devastating. I need season two right now.”
The production crew and creators Lauren Iungerich, Jeremy Haft and Eddie Gonzalez did a phenomenal job at writing a series which puts you into the shoes of each character.
Further allowing you to understand and even relate to their trials.
The show not only attracts those who are teens but adults as well. On My Block gives an insight into how difficult it can be navigating the halls of high school can become and truly makes you empathetic for many in the world.
Netflix: Dead to Me is binge-worthy and quite surprising!
When a creator puts an idea on paper, it takes time, time to plan, time to see things from the audience’s perspective. If you can make someone laugh, you can make someone listen and if you can make someone cry (relate) you can also make someone listen.
So, if this is what’s trending on Netflix then we can back it, give it a watch.
THE PLOT
Going to school, dating and staying out of trouble isn’t easy for this group of friends. Especially when they attempt to save their friend from gang life.
How do 5 teens navigate their now dangerous life?
Good and bad decisions are made, which lead these characters into some messy situations.
But what happens when things get messy and their friendships are on the line?
Honestly, On My Block a new Netflix series that truly holds up to the realities of high school struggles, love, and how the street life can affect others in their community.
Rings trailer will bring chills this Halloween
The new Netflix series was created by Lauren Iungerich, Jeremy Haft and Eddie Gonzalez.

RIVERDALE Rating: 4.7/5 Premiered: Jan 26, 2017 Platform: Netflix
POSITIVE CELEBRITIES TAKE ON THE SHOW
The next answer to what’s trending on Netflix is Riverdale.
The show packs a punch by starting off with the death of Jason Blossom, his body was never recovered after possibly drowning in the early morning of July 4th.
The hit Netflix show is hauntingly addicting.
In fact, it doesn’t matter whether you live in a small town, there’s always crime but this runs deeper than just your everyday crime. Most importantly, keeping you on the very edge each time the show concludes an episode with each incredible cliff hanger.
Deception, love, crime, and secrets.
It was not hard to finish this series in a couple of days. The only hard part was waiting to see what would happen next on Riverdale.
So, if you’re wondering why it’s on our list of what’s trending on Netflix then let’s take a jump into the plot.
Positive Celebrity cannot wait to see the next well-written script for its next season.
THE PLOT
The creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa didn’t miss a beat when putting together a production which was based off the comic “Archie.” Although the truth is comics have never been on the top of our reading list, the CW drama-mystery is jaw-dropping.
Riverdale leaves you with characters like Archie, Veronica, Betty, Jughead (reminds me of The Outsiders), and people of the town. The production found the perfect cast starring Camila Mendes, Cole Sprouse, K.J. Apa, and Lili Reinhart.
What happens when a group of teens attempts to find a murderer who has been haunting the town and watching everyone since the drowning?
This seemingly wholesome town is now facing scandals and secrets.

JAILBIRDS Rating: 7/5 Premiered: Platform: Netflix
POSITIVE CELEBRITIES TAKE ON THE SHOW
Let’s take a look at what’s trending on Netflix in crime on documentaries. I mean, who doesn’t like a little insight on what goes on in jails around the world.

Jailbirds is one Netflix series tending that truly makes you feel emotions you would never imagine.
Most importantly, it gives insight on how important human contact is for inmates. Concluding our thought behind our opinion on how our jail system is broken.
Haven’t you ever thought “why does a mother get a much harsher sentence compared to a murderer or someone who was involved in homicide?”
The trending series on Netflix is one that you can pause and resume but instantly get hooked again, great for those weekdays where you know you
THE PLOT
At the Sacramento County Jail, incarcerated women fight the power and one another as they try to make the best of life — and love — on the inside.

LUCIFER Rating: 8/5 Released: May 8, 2019 Platform: Netflix
POSITIVE CELEBRITIES TAKE ON THE SHOW
It’s no secret Lucifer is on the what’s trending on Netflix. I mean, the devil comes back from hell to help the LAPD?
This show does not leave you time to go into your personal life. It’s definitely a binge watch. The producers, cast and crew did an excellent job with each episode. Most importantly, it’s great to see the whole “what if the devil was good?”
Many could likely relate to wondering that at some point in their life (not everybody). But it’s a great show and the cinematography is top notch.
Be sure to add this to your list of trending shows on Netflix. You won’t regret it.
THE PLOT
What happens when the devil gets bored with life in Hell?
Lucifer takes action and leaves hell to live life in the beautiful city of Los Angeles. He becomes a part of the LAPD looking for suspects.
The creator Tom Kapinos did a great job with this comic adaptation. The series stars some of the best in Hollywood including Tom Ellis, Lina Esco, and Lesley-Ann Brandt.

Castlevania season 3 hits Netflix in March
Dracula will never die. That kind of comes with the whole 'vampire' thing, but it's even more true when Netflix's Castlevania adaptation continues to pull in massive viewer numbers. Netflix has now confirmed the Castlevania season 3 release date: March 5. Trevor Belmont and the gang will soon be back for another round of stylishly violent action.
Details are vague, but Netflix tweets that "there’s more mystery, murder, mayhem, and vampires than ever." The tweet, which you can see below, also shows off the cast of the season, including plenty of returning characters. Hopefully a trailer will soon follow to give us a more substantial taste of the new season.
In November 2018, Castlevania producer Adi Shankar said the series "really over-performed. It did crazy well. We immediately got greenlit for season 3." At the same time, he announced plans for a Devil May Cry TV series - it's still on the way to Netflix, in a similar format to the Castlevania show.

It's freaking cold yall
Tumblr media
But I have a new plan...
How about an interactive fanfiction?
I've been playing those mobile murder mystery games where you make choices that determine the outcome. What if I did something like that?
To be honest, I've never actually written anything with 'second person' POV. I always write third person or first person. So, I'm going to give it a shot. It will be GN of course. I'll post polls after each section to see where everyone wants to take the story. It will be Devil May Cry. Not sure if it will be romance (that will be up to you guys) but I do know it will be mystery with demon hunting involved.
Tumblr media
Oh and murder.
The whole DMC roster will be in this. But the choices are totally up to you guys. The polls will be set for three days and I will post once a week.
Other than that... let's see how wacky this can get.
