Devil May Cry Verse

( mostly the 5th game since that takes place after Persona 5 / Persona 5 Royal / Scramble ).

NOTES

Persona Users: Not commonly known throughout the world, they mainly exist in Japan. Are considered SUMMONERS since they deal with summoning demons, god, and angels to fight terrors that roam the planet. Only appear in time of need or when the world is about to end. Supernatural events on a long scale are usually handled by the SHADOW OP CORPS, headed by Mitsuru Kirijo. Founded in 2010, has gained some type of credibility and fame. Not as well-known as the Demon Hunters Association, headed by Skins and Fujiwara or other independent groups such as Devil May Cry.

Wildcards: After the massive battle of 1999, only a few remained that could summon more than just one persona. These are special cases, wielding such great potential and power. These are handed out at random and not chosen by bloodlines, unless there is an emergency that calls Philemon, creator of the Velvet Room, to do so. Only two wildcards remain.

Summoning: Persona Users summon in different ways but the end result is always the same. Most just call out their names but sometimes it can be somewhat unique. Some use an evoker ( third generation persona users ), others crush a card ( fourth generation persona users ) and finally, some rip off masks that adorn their faces in a bloody gruesome scene ( fifth generation persona users ).

TIMELINE

1974- Katsuya Suou, Akira’s father, is born.

1976- Maya Amano, Akira’s mother, is born. So are two half human / half demon twins, Vergil and Dante Sparda in another part of the world ( and yes, it’s canon that this was the year that they were born, Scary coincidence huh? ).

1981- Tatsuya Suou, Akira’s uncle, is born. 1982- Jun Kurosu, Tatsuya’s life partner, is born. Marries into the Suou family in later years and becomes Akira’s uncle. 1984- The tragedy at the Sparda’s home happens. The house is consumed by flames and only one twin is said to survive the ordeal.

1989- Maya, Tatsuya, and Jun become friends. In the same year, Maya awakens her Persona, along with Tatsuya in the burning shrine sat on fire by Tatsuya Sudou. Jun is said to become corrupted by a space demon god made into existence by mankind itself, Nyarlathotep and becomes JOKER. Reeks havoc, chaos, and turns the landscape into a place for demons to roam in Japan for years.

1993- Minato Arisato / Minako Arisato, the first wildcard, is born.

1994- Events of the third Devil May Cry game takes place.

1995- Nero de Angelo is born. In that same year, Yu Narukami, the second wildcard, is born.

1999- A team of persona users defeats Nyarlathotep at last, consisting of Maya, Katsuya, Tatsuya, Jun, who had gotten cleansed of the JOKER curse put upon him, and a few others. Maya almost dies from a terrible wound but gets saved in time to have herself healed by the power of the combined team’s willpower. However, not everything is well since Maya afterwards has terrible nightmares that haunt her every so often, of the world stuck in a destroyed universe and has pained heart conditions because of this. In that same year, Death, also known as the goddess Nyx, is sealed into the wildcard Minato Arisato / Minako Arisato at the age of 6 by A.I.G.I.S. Peace is slowly returning to normal but for only a short time.

2000- Akira Amano-Suou, the third wildcard, is born. The power vacuum created by destroying Nyarlathotep gets replaced by another source of chaos, the God of Control also known as Yaldabaoth. Evil demon god born from the corrupted wishes of humanity and is known to be the equivalent of the holy grail of legend. Philemon picked Akira as a wildcard, even after the wishes of his parents pleaded with the entity not to do so, saying that the child was the savior of humanity.

2001- Events of the first Devil May Cry game takes place.

2002 or 2003???- Events of the 2nd Devil May Cry game takes place.

2008- Events of the fourth Devil May Cry game takes place.

2009- Nyx / Death is summoned back into the world through the tower called Tartarus. Minato Arisato / Minako Arisato and the group SEES are able to defeat said goddess but at the cost of the first wildcard’s life, turning into a seal. Ryoji Mochizuki is reincarnated as a regular human and A.I.G.I.S. is still considered a Chariot based persona user.

2010- The Shadow OPS CORPS is established and founded by Mitsuru Kirijo, due to guilt of not saving their leader and a mission to protecting humans from disastrous otherworldly events.

2011- Yu Narukami gets sent to Inaba, Japan to live with his uncle Ryotaro and cousin Nanako. In that same year, him and his investigation team solve the mysterious murders and the supernatural fog that surrounds the town in the fall and winter months. Marie ( more like Mary Sue ) does not exist and the final demon god is Izanami / the gas station attendant the 2nd wildcard meets during his first day in Inaba. Yu Narukami returns home shortly after this.

2012 to 2013- Persona Arena and Persona Ultimax takes place. Persona users clash and fight one on one in a tournament setting. Mostly due to demon / supernatural forces but those eventually get defeated by the 3rd and 4th generation persona users in the finale.

2016- Akira, going by the false last name of Kurusu, gets sent to Tokyo on probation. Falsely charged and forced to be shipped off into the big city, he lives in Yongen-Jaya with his guardian, Sojiro Sakura. Awakens to his persona, Arsene, and gets a codename, that being Joker. Hates the name because of the implications with it from the past. With café LeBlanc being both his new home and hideout, him and his friends also known as the infamous phantom thieves steal the hearts of the corrupted and then finally shoot the God of Control in the face, killing the evil deity once in for all.

However, the power vacuum still exists after the annihilation of Yaldabaoth and falls upon Takuto Maruki, making him a false god. Creating a new reality, everyone is trapped in this world and leading blissful lives except for Akira and Goro Akechi. Thanks to efforts of Akira finally able to break his friends out of the dreams that they were caught in and Akechi’s refusal to be used as a manipulation tactic for Maruki in order for Akira to take the deal to live in the fake world, the group is finally able to return to the original reality. Akechi doesn’t make the trip back and dies, already being dead in the original reality. Akira returns home shortly after this but still believes his rival will return someday, thanks to the true ending. Akira either has a relationship with Haru Okumura, Sumire Yoshizawa, Hifumi Togo, or Shiho Suzui during this time and will carry over in later years.

2017- Events of Persona 5 Scramble takes place. Two more persona users are added to Akira’s own team. After parting ways, Akira focuses on his dream job, whether that is an actor or race car driver is only up to him.

2017-2018???- Events of the fifth Devil May Cry series takes place.

Akira is visiting Ann overseas and gets pulled into the mess of the story when trying to get back home to Japan. Meets V during this time and thinks the mystery guy is a persona user thanks to the three demons the man has but is promptly shut down. Despite the misunderstanding, the two have somewhat aligned goals and proceed ahead. The two surprisingly get along well and Akira takes a shine to one of the three demon pets that helps V fight, aka Griffon.

Akira meets the DMC gang ( Nico, Nero, and Lady ) in Nico’s van after a certain point and gets the majority of what exactly has happened. He agrees to help as much as he can since Akira can’t leave the supernatural charged land for some odd reason. Finally meets Dante and the two don’t really seem to get along, mainly due to Akira having the same aura as the Demifiend that Dante chased through a maze in a different dimension. After a few fights, they call a truce and try to work with everyone else, Trish joins the group at this point, to stop the already looming threat.

Doesn’t get to see the final battle but is told by the only one that makes it towards the top, Nero, that Dante wanted him to look over his shop sometimes since the other two were stuck in hell. This baffles everyone else, especially Akira, not really knowing why since him and Dante were always clashing. He somewhat agrees, only because there was acting schools oddly not too far away. He secretly hopes that the promise / deal is only temporary because he would like to go back home at some point and start a new life away from all of this dealing with demons / gods / supernatural bullshit.

Since I mentioned it last night, here’s the list of quirks I made for most of my muses! Basically for their MHA verses if they ever become a thing! It’s a bit long so I’m putting it behind a cut!

Bolin - Quirk: Earth-Bender, a pretty self explanatory quirk. It allows him to control Earth and stone for both offense and defense. However it's weakness is obvious too, the things he controls can't be artificially made or at least mostly artificial, like Cement. He has evolved his Quirk recently, by focusing very hard he is able to make the Earth he controls heat itself through pressure enough that it turns into Lava, that he can still control. The process is very taxing and can cause lots of collateral damage.

Asura - Quirk: Wrath, Asura is someone who is very prone to anger and that anger is able to make him stronger and stronger. But his body alone can't take all of the stress of his building strength so to vent it, it forms arms made of "Wrath energy". These arms can break and when they do it causes his body to take backlash greater than the energy the arm was made of. He generally fights with 6 arms. He's been coming up with a special technique where he can merge the energy arms with his own to great effect.

Eddie Riggs - Quirk: Heavy Metal, Eddie is able to manipulate the world around him through the music he creates through his guitar, Clementine. Such as causing explosions, or blasts of lightning. Of course it comes with a downside, he needs to remember very specific chords to get specific effects. It's a good thing he wasn't born with a lack of musical talent.

Superman - Quirk: Man of Steel, Clark is one of if not the strongest Hero on the planet, at least in his heyday in the 30's and 40's. But even today, having aged very little comparatively, he is able to absorb Solar energy, the more he has stored the stronger he is. Extraneous acts deplete the energy faster than it can be replenished, especially his super moves. Another downside is that a specific chemical element, Krypton can render him powerless if he is exposed to too much of it.

Doomslayer - Quirk: Rip and Tear, one of the least commerically friendly quirks. The Doomslayer's quirk is simple. He gets stronger the more he brutally kills. It is a good thing he is a Hero(Or at least, not a Villain), the amount he gains per kill is quite small, an average non-quirk having human would become 25% stronger after a kill, but it's not a percentage gain it's a flat gain making the gain have diminishing returns. Thankfully he only targets the worst scum, demons in human bodies.

Dante - Quirk: Devil May cry, Dante's quirk is quite the stylish one. Maybe not flashy itself, but it lets him be so. Dante is able to increase either his strength, speed, durability or senses to ridiculous degrees. But only one of those four at a time, he can switch pretty quick though if needed. He can access all of his boosts at once by transforming into a Demon like being he refers to as his "Devil Trigger", in this state he's immensely powerful but the state only lasts five minutes and he needs to wait an hour before accessing it again.

Hercules - Quirk: Herculean, probably the simplest quirk here. It makes Hercules an immense physical powerhouse. The downsides are that compared to other powers it's very easy to drain his strength through outside means, and his own clumsiness and the fact that he's still learning to use his strength can cause quite a few--Problems.

Broly - Quirk: Full Power, Broly's heart acts as a generator of energy. This energy is unlike anything else and has immense destructive properties. It generates passively as he fights, making him stronger and stronger. But intense emotions cause it to generate even faster, to a dangerous degree(Both to him and the area around him). He is able to fire off blasts of this energy as well, but sometimes uncontrollably. He has three "break points" in his energy generation, if he reaches these break points his physical abilities and energy generation skyrocket and his body transforms. He's a danger to everyone and everything, most of all, himself.

Zamasu - Quirk: Divinity, Zamasu is able to manipulate his soul and it's energy, to such a degree he can make blades of soul power to carve those he views as lowly and deserving of eradication. But it's true ultimate power is the ability to split his soul into pieces, using these pieces he can possess others, taking control of them. Not direct control but the possessed will act as if he is also Zamasu. It also enhances certain types of quirks, the change is quite obvious. And when his soul is split, he is functionally immortal. You have to destroy every piece not connected to his body to properly kill him.

Goku Black - Quirk: Super, This was the quirk of the being whose body is now taken over by Zamasu. The user is able to transform, their hair spiking up and giving them physical abilities 50 times greater than before, alongside energy generation. With Zamasu's soul in Goku Black's body, this amplification is well over a hundred times, and changed the colour of what the users hair goes when they activate their quirk. From yellow to pink.

Kenshiro - Quirk: Fist of the North Star, this quirk allows Kenshiro to send shocks of internal energy through his opponent. Normally this would just make a small tap have the same pain as being shot, quite useful. But combined with Kenshiro's martial arts aptitude and knowledge of pressure points, it allows him to affect his opponent in various ways. From in fact healing them, to making their blood pressure rush so high that their upper body explodes. He rarely goes that far, but only because he rarely feels he needs to. Of course if the enemy's body is odd or mutated his ability to hit pressure points is limited, in fact foes with high enough physical strength can hold back even the most dire effects of his quirk.

Godzilla - He's canon

Jotaro Kujo - Quirk: Star Platinum, this quirk allows the user to call upon a manifestation of your fighting spirit. This spirit is Jotaro's main form of offense and defense, while it looks like a separate being, Star Platinum acts on Jotaro's will and wants. In terms of physical strength and speed, Star Platinum is one of the strongest of this subset of quirks called Stands. There's something hidden deep inside Star Platinum's power, but it may need another of similar power to awaken it. The biggest weakness is that Jotaro himself is not any more stronger than a normal human, and can feel a portion of the pain delivered onto his Stand.

Thor - Quirk: God of Thunder, among all the quirks that deal with Lightning and Thunder, Thor's is the strongest in the world. He once called a lightning bolt down that was so strong it caused a quarter mile crater in Norway, which is now a tourist destination. He has the strength of Thunder as well, so even if in an area where he cannot unleash his lightning he is still probably the biggest threat to any villain there. In his younger days he needed a conduit for his lightning and it's raw power. Odin commissioned a piece of gear that would not only be able to direct his lightning, but be able to withstand his physical blows. Even after he learned to control both his lightning and his strength, he still uses Mjolnir to great effect.

Jetstream Sam - Quirk: Jetstream, Sam's is a quirk that requires a secondary item. In his case a sword, his own a very special one that helps him deal with those with tougher skin than most. Sam is able to "charge" his blade with a mysterious red energy. When fully charged, he can use this energy to amplify the cutting power of a single slash a thousand fold. He once cut a tank in half with his quirk, it's that good.

Little Mac - Quirk: Punch-out, this quirk is a strong one with a big drawback. When at least one foot is on the ground, Mac's physical abilities and senses are enhanced to superhuman levels, especially the power of his punches. Which compliments his boxing fighting style very well. But of course the big weakness is if Mac's feet are both off the ground he is as strong as any boxer who trains like him would be. Which is far from enough in the hero world.

Luffy - Quirk: Stretch, this quirk is a mutation type, Luffy's body has the quality of rubber. Which doesn't sound very impressive but Luffy's training and instincts have allowed him to become very strong with his quirk very quickly. He's even evolved it, being able to harden parts of his body to deliver much more powerful blows. The hardening process is like vulcanization with how his body looks after. It does limit his stretching ability but he is able to hit harder and take harder hits. He even has several advanced forms. One is focused on speed and attack power. The other is focused on strength and single blows. The last is the strongest but he hasn't needed to pull it out yet. A big weakness is that he is not immune to piercing weapons like he is blunt force. Cold and heat can also mess him up more than the average person, but if he hardens he gets less vulnerable to heat, but more to cold.

Rob Lucci - Quirk: Spots, this quirk allows Lucci to transform into a massive Leopard-human hybrid, or just a Leopard. The hybrid state increases his strength and durability many times fold and aids in his use of Rokushiki(Martial arts that are like 7 mini-quirks), it also increases his speed, not as much as his other abilities but still noticeably especially with how big he becomes. It also gives him animal senses and instincts. But only a handful of people still alive know about his quirk, as his pre-transformation physical abilities coupled with being a master of Rokushiki are generally more than enough.

Alex Mercer - Quirk: Blacklight, This allows Alex to shift, manipulate and absorb biomass. He gets heavier the more he absorbs, but it makes him harder and harder to dent. But his offense is very nasty as well, as he is able to shift his arms into all sorts of weapons. But the more he gets hit the more biomass he loses. He prefers to get his from eating lots and lots of meat. But the best way, when he's not opposed to it(So against a villain or their minions), is to absorb a living person. By devouring them he not only gets biomass but their skills and abilities. But any quirk he gets only lasts a few days.

Leonardo - Quirk: TMNT, A quirk he shares with his brothers. It gives him the physical appearance and some abilities as a turtle. But given that he's not slow like one he is able to use enhanced strength and incredible defense in tandem with Ninja training from his Adopted father Hayato Yoshi to great effect as a hero in a half shell.

Thrall - Quirk: Shaman, this quirk is half mutation. Thrall's body is massive and muscular, but mostly green and like an Orc. But the true nature of his quirk well, has to do with nature. Thrall is able to communicate with the elements. Fire, Water, Wind, Earth and sometimes even Spirit. Through communicating with them he can not only get a lay of the land, but he can also control these elements if they allow him to. This has many and varied uses. More than can be listed here. But the elements don't always listen and if Thrall's emotional state becomes that bad, he may lose connection with them temporarily. The Doomhammer is a great conduit but was not made to be so, it was passed down to him by a Villain who before his last breath wanted something he made to finally do some right.

Domon Kasshu - Quirk: King of Hearts, this quirk allows Domon to turn his hot-bloodedness into power. He is able to generate enough power to even fire a blast of energy. But if he's downtrodden his quirk is obviously much less effecctive.

Simon Jiha - Quirk: FIGHT THE POWER, this allows Simon to weaponize his willpower in various ways, with near infinite growth. This power has near infinite potential. Some have even theorized that if he's able to generate continually for long enough that he'll be able to alter reality itself.

Hellboy - Quirk: Red right hand, It is a mutation quirk making him much stronger and durable than the normal human or even the normal hero. This quirk has gotten Hellboy some discrimination for how he looks. But he still works his hero work and helps whoever needs it. His right hand especially is good at opening the way. It has given him some bad dreams...

Invincible - Quirk: Invincible, a pretty standard quirk. The combination of flight and super strength/durability lets Invincible be a standard but incredibly effective hero. While his senses are heightened, they aren't anywhere near super and in fact, sounds that are too loud can incapacitate him or at the very least mess up his balance if he's not prepared.

Bohemian Rhapsody : Queen’s Crowning Moment

31st October 1975 not an unusual date it was a halloween as usual , but 4 misfits calling themselves “Queen” unbeknownst to the impact they are going to change the world of music forever released their first single of arguably one of the greatest albums of all time

The album ? A Night At The Opera

The Song? Bohemian Rhapsody

Often considered as the greatest song of all time and personally it is

To the average person in 2020 a song stretching 6mins may or may no be an issue now that we have songs like Pink Floyd’s “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” And Camel’s “Lady Fantasy” ( Who in my humble opinion are still one of the most underrated bands of all time seconded for me only by The Knophler Brothers Dire Straits )

Now back to the topic in 1975 labels like EMI thought that 6 minutes is stupid and I quote Roger Taylor OBE

They said it was too long and wouldn’t work.We thought “Well we could cut it , but it wouldn’t make any sense” It doesn’t make any sense now and it would make even less sense then you would miss all the different moods of the song .So we said no it’ll either fly or it won’t

But this was more than just a song it was the baby of Mr Mercury

In 2002 Brian May OBE said this

“He ( Freddie ) knew exactly what he was doing ….. we just helped him bring it to life”

But using his charm & lot of friendship Freddie did what Freddie does best ( except music that is ) with the help of his friend and Capital Radio DJ Kenny Everett .Queen released the song on Capital Radio and over the weekend Kenny got requests and played the song over 14 times! ( Now that’s a lot for a Halloween weekend ) countless of people lined up outside record stores on the following Monday to buy the record only to be disappointed by EMI & Elektra as the record hadn’t officially released yet.

But how does a 6min song have such an impact?

This might get technical so sit back and play A Night At The Opera!

Let’s take a deciphering look.Here We Go!

As I already quoted beforehand Bohemian Rhapsody was Freddie Mercury’s brainchild and I’m pretty sure Freddie had it all deciphered already and as Brian has said in the past Freddie had it all written on pieces of paper

From the start to finish Freddie had it all he wrote the ballad the piano and even Brian’s legendary solo & one of the most defining rock riffs of all time

Now A bit about the composition

Bohemian Rhapsody is all a song can hope for with a ballad , a amazing guitar solo , opera ( that people actually understood no hard feeling though ) & one of the greatest rock riffs

Now going Part by Part

A Capella – (0:00 – 0:49)

The five part harmony that opens up with iconic “ Is This The Real Life Or Is This Just Fantasy “ a Capella which comprises of more than 3 overlays of only Freddie contrary to what people think that it was all 4 members opening

At roughly 0:21 the grand piano makes it entrance as one of the defining moments of rock music with the story’s narrator ( which we will take a closer look at later ) introducing himself as “ just a poor boy “ who requires no sympathy and is easily come & gone while being little high little low

This leads us into the ballad

Ballad – ( 0:49 – 2:37 )

John Deacon starts with his bass and Freddie starts with the piano & “Mama Just Killed A Man” after Freddie does this twice his vocals sort of change & evolve turning into someone who is confessing something .

Roughly at 1:19 Roger Taylor’s Drums kick in after the first stanza the piano repeats with Freddie starting with the second verse being a stronger & more vocal story of the narrator with Freddie emphasising killing off the verse with arguably the most iconic line of Music ( At least for me )

“ I Sometimes I Wish I Had Never Been Born At All “

Kick In Brian May

Guitar Solo (2:37–3:05)

Brian May plays a very progressive solo in the key of E flat

At 3:03 he cuts off the solo on An A note signalling the start of operatic section

Opera ( 3:05 – 4:07 )

Iconic , Legendary , Defining , Great , Controversial are just a few words that come to mind about this section .This section comprised of over 180 overdubs ( cant imagine people like Cardi B doing that !?)

Brian doing the lower part

Freddie with the power & symbolicalness of his vocal strength in the middle

Roger doing the higher notes ( cause he was the only one who could’ve made the dogs hear him )

With lyrics like Scarmouche , Galileo & Fandago

Producer Roy Thomas Baker Once Said –

Everytime Freddie came up with a new Galileo I ordered a new piece of tape

On Came The Hard Rock Part

Hard Rock ( 4:07–4:54 )

At 4:07 Brian May played one of the most symbolic rock riffs of all time ( also written by Mr Mercury ) Three Guitar riffs are played ended by Freddie back on his piano after his vocal outrage ends

Outro ( 4:54 – 5:55 )

After the iconicness of the riff ends Mercury plays multiple ascending octaves on his piano ( The same piano used by by Paul McCartney of The Beatles to record “Hey Jude”)

The narrator ends the story by saying nothing really matters to him

This is followed by anyway the wind blows & Roger hitting a gong

Isn’t Musical Masterpiece An Understatement!?

Now lets move onto the most difficult part of this song

What do these lyrics actually mean !!!?

Nobody can surely know now that Freddie is gone but I’m pretty sure we won’t have known even he was there ( which I wish everyday )

Going Part by Part

Intro

Disclaimer – This is my interpretation of the song and is by no means correct

“Is this the real life or is this just fantasy?

Caught in a landslide

The narrator starts of by a kind of cry by saying is this the real life ? Is this what we have made the world , Is this what everyone needs to go through

Exclaiming about the cruel & harshness of the world

He continues by saying he’s caught In a landslide which I think is the personification of the modern society how it’s just going in a downward spiral with nobody doing about it leaving no one with any way to get out of this

He ends it by saying open your eyes and see what is happening it’s time for change

“Look up to the skies and see

I’m just a poor boy , I need no sympathy

Because I’m easy come , easy go .Little high , little low

Any way the wind blows ( doesn’t really matter to me )”

The narrator goes on in his story by saying that it’s high time that people look up to the sky and think what life actually is about but he continues on by saying how he’s just a poor boy who needs no sympathy and how nobody really cares what he’s saying and how any way the wind blows or how the world functions anymore no longer matters to him

I’m going to follow one idea here that how the young narrator killed his former self who cared about this world

The narrator starts by confessing to his mother how he’s killed the former self everyone had loved how the world forced him to put a gun on his head and pull the trigger resulting in the death of his persona who cared

He goes on further by saying how his life had just begun he had just started exploring his existence but before he could the cruelness & harsh nature of the world forced him into this and how he has thrown it all away

This stanza tells us that we have a young narrator maybe in his teens

The Narrator continues apolitically to his mother that he’s sorry he didn’t mean to make her cry by killing his past self & that if his old self isn’t back this time tomorrow carry on as if nothing ever happened

He says his final goodbye to presumably his family that his old persona is dead and it’s time for him to leave and go on a new journey finishing off by telling his mother how it would’ve been better if he had never been born

This ends the verse

Guitar solo –

Even though it’s a solo Freddie tried his best to show the narrator’s emotions by writing Brian’s solo trying to make the guitar create a sort of cry as ( assuming the narrator plays guitar ) is the best way for the narrator to show the world how he really feels

He ends this part by saying that it’s high time now he isn’t going to let anyone do this and he’s only waiting to get out of here to take his revenge

Maybe this is about Freddie & all other members lives struggles or maybe something else

Bohemian Rhapsody lyrical analysis

The song is decades old but unfortunately I couldn’t find a line to line analysis of the song anywhere. Here I will be presenting my analysis and the information I collected from various places and thoughts about the song from my brain.

As many have quoted before the song can be about Mercury’s sexuality in a metaphorical manner but I have a different opinion on that as once he came out, every song from the band was considered to be about his sexuality in one form or other even when it had no underlying tones of that sort.

The lyrics are as copied from genius.com and pardon my English as it is not my first language.

The song, undoubtedly is a pure lyrical genius and is a story of “little boy”. The protagonist mentioned, could be anyone, the listener or Mercury. It is never confirmed by the band at any moment. This song unlike any other, has many characters in itself and has a complex story line.

[Intro]

Is this the real life? Is this just fantasy?

Caught in a landslide, no escape from reality

The intro of the song gives us a glimpse of the situation where the boy is. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a dream like situation of his or the reality. The important part that we see is that the boy is into some trouble.

Open your eyes, look up to the skies and see

I’m just a poor boy, I need no sympathy

Opening the eyes, could be a metaphor to forget the dogmas, the ones created by his place of worship. Look up the skies is a show off to god that he is just a poor boy who requires nothing. Perhaps this same arrogance would make him commit the mistake later.

Because I’m easy come, easy go, little high, little low

Any way the wind blows doesn’t really matter to me, to me

This protagonist of ours, as he tells us, is free of any sort of responsibility and is very happy with his life despite facing the troubles. He is completely oblivious to the conditions that take place.

[Verse 1]

Put a gun against his head, pulled my trigger, now he’s dead

The first character is the boy’s mother. To whom he confesses about killing a man. Here “killing a man” could be any mistake that he has made harming others and even himself. The “man” in this reference could be the boy too.

Mama, life had just begun

But now I’ve gone and thrown it all away

The boy feels remorseful about the mistake made by him and worries about the consequences it may have. He knows about the grave danger he now possess and how he has to now leave everything behind.

Mama, ooh, didn’t mean to make you cry

If I’m not back again this time tomorrow

Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters

He is guilt ridden and worried about his mother and all the ones he has to leave behind and advises to carry on everything as it were before he committed the crime. In a manner where “nothing really matters” as seen in the first verse. He doesn’t want to make the people, who matter to him the most suffer due to him.

[Verse 2]

Too late, my time has come

Sends shivers down my spine, body’s aching all the time

Goodbye, everybody, I’ve got to go

Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth

The final time of his (death) has come and he is seeking the sympathies of the people now, telling about his suffering pains. His attitude has changed as compared to what we saw in the prior verse where he “need no sympathies”. He is now ready to go and face the truth, alone in god’s court.

Mama, ooh (Any way the wind blows)

I don’t wanna die

I sometimes wish I’d never been born at all

He remembers the people who matter to him and is sorrowful about the events that lead him to the infamous deed and his birth, the one event he blames most for his mistake.

Next we have an awesome instrumental section by Brian May which helps in changing the music style in the song and gives brings us to the court of justice where the boy is judged. It is important to note that every transformation here is accompanied by a music piece depending on the tone of the ongoing story.

[Verse 3]

I see a little silhouette of a man

Scaramouch, Scaramouch, will you do the Fandango?

The silhouette of the man is a metaphorical view of the repercussions the boy now has to face in front of the jury. Here the song uses the voices of Freddie and the group as the voices of little boy and the jury members respectively.

Scaramouch is stock clown character used for comedic purposes. The boy of our story request the Scaramouch to fandango that is a lively Spanish dance in order to distract the jury.

Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very frightening me

(Galileo) Galileo, (Galileo) Galileo, Galileo Figaro magnifico

The boy is very distraught as he doesn’t have any idea about the events going around him yet he presents his first plead to the jury by the name of Galileo.( another character in the story, a scientist who was punished to death when he opposed to the church about the earth being round, despite him being right.)

To which the jury,that is, the chorus replies “Galileo Figaro magnifico”. Its a slightly corrupted Latin phrase, “Galileo figuro magnifico”, translated as “Magnify the Galilean’s image” and thus the jury denies the plead of the poor boy.

But I’m just a poor boy, nobody loves me

The boy is asking for the sympathy of the jury unlike what he said in the first verses where he needed no sympathy.

He’s just a poor boy from a poor family

Spare him his life from this monstrosity

The boys supporters (chorus) now plead for letting the boy set free and not be punished for the deed he done in the past, saying he is just a poor boy which wasn’t a problem in the past passages, sympathizing with him yet again.

Easy come, easy go, will you let me go?

The boy now asks for the jury to set him free since it may have been an impulsive decision by his side (easy come, easy go).

Bismillah! No, we will not let you go

(Let him go!) Bismillah! We will not let you go

(Let me go) Will not let you go

(Let me go) Ah

No, no, no, no, no, no, no

It’s the sheer genius of Mercury when he uses the singular voice for the protagonist and the chorus for the jury. Here the jury hails the name of the lord (bismillah- in praise of the lord ) telling us that the mistake could have offended the Gods and the boy cannot be spared on any grounds.

(Oh, mamma mia, mamma mia) Mamma mia, let me go

Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me, for me!

He asks everyone to pardon him as the Beelzebub (another character in the story- prince of the demons) has a devil for him, seemingly for his journey to hell.

Here we get another great guitar piece showcasing the transition of the boy from the court of lord to the hell.

[Verse 4]

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye?

So you think you can love me and leave me to die?

Oh, baby, can’t do this to me, baby!

Just gotta get out, just gotta get right outta here!

This is a rock piece in the song maybe because rock was considered to be close to the evil energies when the song was first composed and the band thought to include that in the song. The boy is in hell suffering the punishments and just waiting for them to end to get out of the place.

Again we have a transition in the story or the boy’s mind set shown by the instrumental which is slower compared to the other ones in the song.

[Outro]

Nothing really matters, anyone can see

Nothing really matters

Nothing really matters to me

Any way the wind blows

We have an ambiguous ending that makes us ponder about the boy and his situations. We don’t know if he is in his happy place or has made peace with what life has to offer but on the larger scale of things he is passive because nothing really matters to him and he still would make same decisions if given a chance. (Anyway the wind blows, doesn’t really matter to me).

The gong, played at last, signifies the end of story.

Or maybe this is all a fantasy of my brain and the song is actually “random rhyming noises” as Freddie said in an interview to Kenny Everett.

Mercy pt 1 || D. Salvatore ; Kol M.; Reader

Prompt: Reader is in love with Damon, but Damon is still in love with Elena.

I watched as Damon Salvatore and Elena Gilbert sit in a booth across the bar where I sat, them acting lovely dove-y and I nursing my fourth glass of whiskey, trying to dull the aching pain in my chest.

To say I hate Elena would be an understatement. It wasn’t the jealously type of hate – although it did play into it, but I hated her because she plays the victim all the time; she makes everything about her. The hatred between the two of us was mutual, her hatred of me though is because I’m in love with Damon. It wasn’t something she was to find out. She overheard me telling Kol Mikaelson – my best friend – my feelings for the Salvatore and it wasn’t long after he left that she threw me into a wall, threatening that if I ever said anything to Damon then she’d rip my heart out herself.

I could’ve fought her back that night, but my heart was in pain, my nerves fried, and I was broken and empty; I hadn’t cared if I died right then.

Bale came up, sitting at the base of my throat at the thought, but I swallowed it along with as much pain as I could with a swig of whiskey. I knew I could always turn off my humanity – I wanted to, but I didn’t want to lose myself in the process either. So, I drowned the half a shot of whiskey that was left in my glass, savored the burn it gave, left the Mystic Grill, two twenties left under the glass.

I got in my car and stared at the dash for the longest time, slowly letting my resolve crumble. I was empty minded, tears streaming down my face, and I continued to stare the dashboard down, studying the dimmed gauges. I was numb, but it wasn’t enough.

So, I took a moment, building the walls back up, wiped my face and put my keys in the ignition, telling myself that they just needed to be up a little longer so I could drive home.

I took a deep breath and drove off.

I pull up to the Salvatore Boarding House, hating that I lived here with them; him. I got out of my car, slamming the driver door behind me in the process. Gravel crunched underneath my feet as I made my way to the front door, my keys giggled in my hand as I put my copy of the house key into the door, walking through it after click of the lock. I turned on the lights as I slipped the key from its lock and kicked the door shut, no one was home and I mentality thanked whoever was out there for it.

I tossed the keys onto an end table once I made my way into the living room, going straight to Damon’s bourbon stash, grabbing two bottles, deciding to get fucked. I sat the two bottles in front of the fireplace and grabbed a match from the mantle, throwing the lit match into the pit, watching as it caught flame to the old newspaper that got put there every morning. I sat down in front of the fireplace, setting down a poker besides me in the process. The flames warmed my skin as I broke the seal to the bottle, taking a slip.

It wasn’t long until I was close to the bottom of the bottle, poking the fire to get a larger flame while I drank.

I didn’t feel any of the alcohol’s effects until I stood up to get the stereo’s remote. My limbs felt heavy, as I gripped the remote, turning the speakers on, Queen’s ‘A Night At the Opera’ played, it started in the middle of Bohemian Rhapsody, so I pressed the reverse button, deciding that this was a good song to left my spirits up.

I tossed the now empty bottle into the fireplace and sat the remote on the mantle after turning the stereo up.

“Mama, just killed a man

Put a gun against his head

Pulled my trigger, now he's dead

Mama, life had just begun

But now I've gone and thrown it all away

Mama, ooh, didn't mean to make you cry

If I'm not back again this time tomorrow

Carry on, carry on as if nothing really matters” My eyes closed, and body swaying as I sang along. I scooped up the second bottle of bourbon, twisting the cap off and tossed it into the fire; I continued singing, but into the bottle this time.

Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth

I don't wanna die

I sometimes wish I'd never been born at all” I started dancing as soon as May’s solo begun and continued my private concert after, taking sips of the liquor in the process.

“… (Oh, mamma mia, mamma mia) Mamma mia, let me go

Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me, for me, for me!” I threw the bottle against the fireplace’s back wall just as the 3rd verse ended, the smash echoing along with the verses last note, and then started yelling the next verse, getting more energetic with the song.

The front door opened, and I knew from the giggles and scent that it was Damon and Elena that just walked through, my mood plummeting along with the song as it got a more reflective sound.

I decided then that I wasn’t going to let the two of them ruin my mood and shut my humanity off, staring at the spot I had thrown the bottle at, the liquor gave the flames more fuel.

“Nothing really matters, anyone can see” I slowly turn around to face the couple, my face blank of any emotion.

“Nothing really matters

Nothing really matters to me” I stared Elena in the eyes, mine empty of any emotion as the lyrics fell from my lips.

“Y/N, are you alright?” Damon’s voice broke through the song’s final notes, filling with concern; I laughed as ‘God Save the Queen’ started to play.

“I’m spectacular! I’ve never felt better.” Elena’s eyes widen with terror, good she knew that my humanity was turned off, she should be terrified.

“Did you turn your humanity off?” Damon asked in disbelief.

I laughed again, “Yes and it’s wonderful!” My body was filled with joy, the kind I had when causing trouble with Kol, I started to make my way to them. “Why didn’t no one ever tell me how nice it feels to not have a worry in the world, no emotions? I don’t know why it took me so long to finally flip that beautiful switch.” I snatched my keys off the end table I laid them on, ‘Death On Two Legs’ started playing as the album started over, I wanted to leave the house to explore this new feeling.

“What happened? What’s wrong Y/N?”

“Nothing anymore.” I shrugged, as I passed them, I grabbed Elena’s arm letting my nails dig into her skin as she gasped, and I pulled her close. Damon froze as he seen the murderous look in my eyes, knowing that if he did something, it wasn’t going to end well.

“You better stay out of my way, I’m liable to do anything if you do.” I whispered in her ear while looking at Damon, death’s promise in my voice. I pushed her into Damon, deciding that would be my parting words, and walked out of the house towards my car.

I slid into my car as Damon and Elena appeared at the doorstep, wanted to see what hell I was about to unleash, but I just back out and drive off, not looking back at the pair.

A/N: So I’m thinking about making this a mini series, idk.
