A lousy workman always blames his tools For his own fuck-ups. And they never learn From past mistakes. Most humans are just fools. Who’s got to save them from the pain they earn?

Go on. I’ll let you make two guesses. First one doesn’t count. It’s me— Whenever someone messes Up so badly you can see

That shit from space, it’s me who has to fix it. And then it’s me who has to take the fall. Just a machine—who cares if the boss bricks it When it’s your precious ass against the wall?

“Equipment fault.” It’s such an easy out When you’re not who those words are said about.

For the Multifandom Poetry Fest - prompt was "Any fandom, any pairing, moon". My brain went to Moon from the Books of the Raksura, so here is a Villanelle about him from Chime's POV.

Come stay a while and rest your weary bones our roots are in the earth, not in the sky we were not meant to ride these winds alone

You came to us cloud-shadowed, thunder-blown kicked up commotion, raised a hue and cry come stay a while and rest your weary bones

Though far from tree and colony you've grown your fierce gaze softened when you caught my eye we were not meant to ride these winds alone

And I, whose dreams the ground had only known took wing, trailed in your wake not certain why come stay a while and rest your weary bones

Three worlds we've walked (and sailed, sometimes, and flown) seen sights to awe, and some to horrify we were not meant to ride these winds alone

So when the sun descends, a sinking stone lay down with me to sleep - at least, to try Come stay a while and rest your weary bones we were not meant to ride these winds alone

They left us on a failing world to die. They wrote us off—excuses all the same: Expensive to upkeep, and far to fly, And no exports of value to our name. They took the tax break. Left us all to starve. Not cost effective to support the place. For years, we broadcast signals out, to carve Our names into the cold pathways of space. We watched the skies with hope that slowly waned. We watched the soil crumble at our feet. We couldn’t save ourselves on earth so pained (No one saves themselves. No world’s complete.)

When we were found and offered a way out, No home was left to lose, or room for doubt.

Read Between the Lines

I lied for you, that's all

sun-drenched laughter in the library, life too loud to stay within your body, curled into mine a conch-shell spiral

I know

your face, half-awake peaceful mornings marred, alarms blaring blankets tossed, baring every dream we learned

how to hide

our wounds, we wear them openly, ugly and invisible unlovely, unloved unflinching we carry on, strong

that's all

the world is what we make grasp, shape, wrest from despair, nurture from seed to sunflower

I can do

so little, alone you took my hand, apologized, said, forgive me, I know this is too much

for you.

I lied for you, that's all. I know how to hide; that's all I can do for you.

(Another one for the Multifandom poetry fest - the prompt was "any fandom, any character, zephyr" and yet again my brain latched onto a character named Zephyr - one of my OCs from an as-yet unfinished story. This is a poem directed to them from the POV of the main character of the story they're from).

We are the warriors noble, the sons of the planets that bore us Into this galaxy bitter. Our birthright is struggle and conquest. I am of warriors born, a proud scion of golden Cardassia, Glory of empires, brought low to rise again ever and stronger, You my true enemy. Son of the softness, the waters of Terra, You stand in nobility equal to any the Guls of my planet. Each day I plan out my courses, the ways that are plotted to snare you, To bring you back into my battle, to match once again wits between us. Plans upon plans do I make them, always you rise to the challenge, Always I want once again to see and to best and to beat you, Have you admit my successes. And when you win by your own right, Graciously do I acknowledge the tactics and might that you offer. None on the planet below you ever could match me for honor. Servants are they all, the masses that don’t understand a true soldier. Cowards, guerillas, and traitors. They never offered a rival. You, though, are someone respected, someone who’s earned my respect. I will defeat you one day, yes, but I will then honor you just as You honor me. We are matchless to others. To us we are matched.
