One I’ve realized but sat on for a bit of time. Jay’s one of the few builder ocs out there that actually made Pen feel something. Initially, it began with her going off on him and wanting a rematch after the disastrous sparring lesson- once of course, Jay was able to wake up and stand straight. But Pen got a kick in how her cold and intimidating demeanor actually seemed like it was fake. That her rbf was just making it seem that way. Until after pestering her, he slowly realizes she protects herself and that she’s actually sweet and kind. Something in him clicks and he unknowingly begins to grow attached and protective of her. He’s less of an asshole where she’s concerned. And she’s the one he has to lie to at the end as he carries a faked cruel smile when he’s dying inside.

AU five headcanons thing where everything is the same except...vampires (make of that what you will)

Hey, anon. Sorry for the late answer, I have been busy, but I finally have the free time I hit this.

Have been having fun coming up with an answer. Really love vampires lol.

At first, vampires living in the desert seem pretty unconventional, but in reality it's the best place to hide. It's the last place people would suspect, plenty of stuff from the old world to help vampires, and since it's the city state that gets the least amount of attention, Sandrock has become a sanctuary for vampires over the years.

Everyone has a story for how they became a vampire. Some were turned and others were born. The only one they aren't sure is a vampire or a human is the builder and that's still up in the air. Some are not even sure if they even know they are living in a town with vampires.

They are pretty good at hiding it whenever they have tourists or guests. It's pretty easy to lie to people about why almost the whole town only comes out at night and has heavy blinds on the windows. After all, it's easier being nocturnal in the desert.

Except with the Duvos situation. Most of the Duvos army was so smug about how easy it was taking over the town until the sun set.

Either way, the town of Sandrock is pretty peaceful and just wants a nice community. At least how the Alliance sees it.

It's not so surprising, Andy. She simply loves this kid and his genius pranker mind. She can see how smart this little blond head is and treats him as family. I have a headcanon that Andy often has nightmares, so Sandara has some sort of routine now to come see him when she finishes her day in the evening.

They sit under the night sky as she teaches him how to read the stars so he will never be lost again. Andy listens carefully before drifting to sleep comfortably in her lap. Andy loves Sandara for many reasons, but the most important one is that he knows he can always count on her and her unconditional love and support.

6. What's their opinion on the Church of the Light?

Very complicated. Sandara disagrees with many aspects of the Church and doesn't get along well with Miguel and Mathilda.

15. Preferred method of travel? Do they prefer walking, yakmel carts, horse, etc.?

When she have to move quickly, she takes her horse on the ride : Atlan, a horse as stubborn as a donkey.

18. What's their favorite holiday?

She loves the Winter Solstice Festivities the most. Nothing can make her happier than reuniting with everyone, dancing around the bonfire all night long, and watching the fireworks sparkle in the sky.

19. What's their favorite season?

Winter, so she can make sandy snow angels in the dunes with Andy and Jasmine ❄️

🗺 favorite circuit? Currently in the calendar Silverstone or San Marino, but my truly favourite one is Aragón. I can't wait fot it to return to the calendar.

🏍 favorite team? Team Suzuki ECSTAR, what I'm delusional, they never did an official statement about them leaving the championship, so they are just dormant. But Aprobably in the current grid Aprilia or Mooney in MotoGP and Aspar Team in Moto2&3. And also in Moto3 I love BOE Motorsports (Ana's and Muñoz's team) and Angeluss MTA Team (Aurora my beloved 💜).

🃏 a rider who is underrated, in your opinion? In MotoGP I want to say Brad or Aleix, but they are not as underrated as they used to be as people is already counting on them to win against the Ducatis. I'll probably go with Luca. What people doesn't know, is that is a data driven rider and he is pretty good at it. He always knows what his limits and doesn't (usually) make stupid mistakes. He is also pretty constant result wise. So I can't wait for him to really explote and be at the front. In Moto2 I'll go with Baltus and Bendsneyder because they've been constantly in the top-10 and people have been ignoring them.

Want to talk about those feelings on MTA? (I’d like to hear them.)

Oh always and forever.

So to be clear, I’ve come to really like Mage: The Ascension too. It’s a fun, wild game, with so much possibility in it.

But Awakening is my first love, really. It might even be the first RPG I personally looked into after getting in the hobby through D&D, though I’m not sure about that.

To me, the premise of the game is such a big hook. Not just the fact there’s this secret occult world of magic and mystery, but that it’s based around delving into forgotten lore and strange phenomena. I love the feeling of wizards poring over old tomes and investigating unusual places. I also love the way the magic works, this meticulous and symbolic shaping of reality, understanding the deeper meaning of the world but still through your personal lens.

I love the five Paths! Each distinctive and archetypical, from fortune-bending Witches, to dark and enigmatic Necromancers. (My personal favorite are the Obrimos, even though I am probably a Moros upon reflection.) But they’re also endless customizable! Your Mastigos Warlock could be a classic demon-summoning malcontent, a trippy psychic explorer, or a master of sorting and illusions, to just name a few.

And the Exarchs! Fascinating villains, if you ask me. They are tyranny itself, the very incarnations of authority. They’re as evil as that suggests, and yet there is an element of… well, not sympathy, but understanding that comes with that all-too-human desire for control and order.

The Seers in the Throne in general are fascinating, because they’re obviously more sinister than the Technocracy in Ascension, and yet the banality of becoming a tyrant because it’s the winning side is just so immediately understandable, even if it is despicable. Of course some mages would side with tyranny just because tyranny is the dominant force and they want to come out on top.

I also like the horror of the Abyss, this hateful and vicious anti-dimension full of malign universes that whispers to be let in to the real world, so it might bring it to ruin. And it is what brings Paradox in the world, because reaching too far with magic invites impossibility.

Ultimately, I love the idea of this game about modern magicians trying to figure out reality, pursuing mad leads and mystic clues to… something. It’s weirdly relatable, at least to me.

I could go on, it’s easy for me to just blurt out adoration for Awakening. There’s too much to talk about!

So seriously, thanks for asking. I appreciate being able to ramble about it.

Hestia has pretty much been everywhere at this point, due to her childhood, but if he had to choose he’d either like to go back to his hometown of Portia or Walnut Groove.

4. Who are they closest with in Sandrock? What’s their relationship with that person?

Hestia is closest with Fang, who she’s in a romantic relationship with! She’s been pretty insistent on getting to know Fang ever since he first moved to Sandrock, and it seems his efforts all paid off in the end. She also has a little bit of romantic history with Owen from their teenage years, and considers him to be her best friend.

7. What’s their opinion on the research centre?

As a builder, Hestia works in close tandem with the research centre! Without them he wouldn’t be able to have a lot of the things that he has now, plus her general interest in old world machinery means that she spends a lot of time in the research centre, mulling over new diagrams with Qi. In the church vs research debate, Hestia tends to lean towards the research side.

18. What’s their favourite holiday?

Hestia is incredibly fond of the Day of Memories. He’ll always take a day off of doing commissions when it rolls around - it gives her time to honor her late father, as well as the sacrifices that were made to get the world where it is today.

23. What song do you associate most with their time in Sandrock?

I have a whole playlist dedicated to Hestia, but if I have to pick one song, it would have to be Horses are Faster by Ian Munsick!

I could pull up some specific lyrics, but I won’t do that to keep this post short!

As for the final question, how Hestia got his name! I have a habit of naming all of my insert characters after Greek gods/goddesses! For example my Portia builder is called Cupid! Hestia is the Goddess of Home and the Hearth, which I thought suited a builder type role quite well ^^

Adventures in MTAS datamining (pt. 1/?: art assets)

Because I am incredibly normal about this game, I’ve been poking around in the game’s files (and MTAP’s, too) pretty much ever since I got it. Unity games are pretty easy to datamine, since tools are already out there, which is incredibly fortunate for fueling the hyperfixation. I wanted to share some of the more interesting things I’ve found on my travels. Spoiler warning: There are some midgame spoilers below (i.e. starting with the water tower). There’s also one thing that might be a future spoiler, which is at the very end and marked accordingly.

General disclaimer: If you’re curious to try datamining out yourself, feel free to ask me for how-to’s, but please be careful! Never edit the game’s files directly. Make copies and back up your save files. You’ll also need a good amount of RAM (I recommend at least 16 GB) to be able to handle tools like AssetStudio, since you’ll be loading assets directly into memory. And MTAS has a lot of assets. You may also encounter unreleased future content in there...so preemptive spoiler warning for that as well.

Since there’s so much to dig through, this post will only focus on some of the art/visual things. These can either be found under StreamingAssets > AssetBundles, or StreamingAssets > AssetBundles > art_asset. I can’t really comment too much on the 3D assets (meshs, textures) since I don’t know too much about modeling, but here are some other interesting things I found!

Cutscene thumbnails

You can find thumbnails of the cutscenes without the builder in them. The in-game album uses different thumbnails, which look like screenshots taken when it’s playing for the first time (hence why skipping a cutscene won’t put it in your album). Some of them actually really nice. Wallpaper-worthy, even.

The one they use for the kidnapping cutscene is incredible.

So, uh...Qi has an alternate set of character art. No other character has one (except Elsie for story reasons). I assume this’ll be a DLC outfit, like those in MTAP? Kinda weird how only one would be loaded into the files so far. The asset name doesn’t really give any pointers, it’s just marked as “Qi2″. It only exists as character art, no model or texture or anything like that.

So is this past Qi? Future Qi?? Qi for one day if he’s forced to wear something nice for a change??? It looks like the neat and complete version of his normal outfit. You can see the same shirt and tie, same pants (except they aren’t rolled up at the ankles anymore?), same shoes. I’m also just now noticing that his suit jacket’s the same color as the mobile suit, haha funni joke. Again, not a single other character besides Elsie has an alternate outfit yet in these files. What is this for?! I have no fuckin clue, but I can say that Qi cleans up pretty nicely 👀

And that’ll wrap up this little datamining dive! I’ll probably come back to the art in the future, once more gets added, or if I find some other things to share. In the next parts, I’ll be showing off some of the audio and text data, but I do want to wait until future game updates for some of it. Hope you found this as interesting as I do!

Edit 2: Unfortunately, as of several beta builds pre-release, full suit Qi has largely been removed. The full art version isn’t in the files anywhere, but there are still some map icons of him. Not sure if this is something for postgame content or a romantic mission they didn’t have time to add. We’ll have to see :P
