New Orleans: 1912...?

That newspaper about Wilson's election places this prologue in 1912. Yet everyone sports the same clothing styles they do for the rest of the movie, set in the Roaring Twenties. And then there's that obviously Twenties-inspired flier that Tiana's dad had...8 years before the 1920s began.

To be fair, none of this is impossible for 1912. Ladies' hats were generally bigger and fancier, but it's possible that both Eudora and that other lady on the trolley happened to have smaller hats long before they became popular. And Art Deco did exist before the Twenties, when it really took off. But for a segment that's set in the same era as "Peter Pan" and "The Aristocrats," it's depicted very differently.

Okay to be fair, those other two movies are about rich people in Europe. So maybe Disney was stereotyping rich Europeans as old-fashioned and fancy. And in any case, "Aristocats" features jazz stereotypes in the 1910s. Again, Jazz music did exist in the late 1910s. But it is clear that historical accuracy isn't Disney's priority.

Personally, I don’t like the 2003 Peter Pan movie. I actually don’t like any Peter Pan movie.
