I need Spielberg to do a Sweeney Todd remake, cause that musical deserves a good adaptation - we know he can do horror and we know he can do musicals after West Side Story...
So where do we start a petition

It’s no secret that Disney/Marvel relies so heavily on CGI because VFX crews aren’t unionized like their practical FX counterparts but this is ridiculous.

Unless Remake Figaro’s gonna be involved in some high-stakes action scene or otherwise complex anthro sequence (which I doubt), there’s no reason you couldn’t have just gotten a real cat to stand around looking cute (which is basically all that Figaro did in the original movie).
REAL cats can look just as cute as the OG cartoon.
Case in point:

Yes I’m humble-bragging on behalf of my cat but my point still stands (his name is Groucho btw)

Prompt idea for Kate and Yelena
Kate and Yelena - The Mummy remake
Kate is Rachel Weiss character (Evelyn)
Yelena is Brendan Fraser character (Rick)
Peter is John Hannah character (Jonathan Evelyn’s brother)
Kazi or Valentina is Arnold Vosloo character (Imhotep)
Bucky or Steve is oded Fehr character (Ardeth Bay)

I just watched the new remade Diary of A Wimpy Kid movie today and I gotta say, it was pretty good. I enjoyed it. I'd watch it again. Loved the animation especially.
Probably gonna watch the new version of Rodrick Rules later this week. So excited. Out of all the Wimpy Kid movies, Rodrick Rules is definitely my favorite. Can't wait to see if it holds up against the original. 🤞 Here's hoping.
Also curious if Dog Days will get the same treatment. I'll just have to wait and see. And I hate what they did in the Long Haul movie. That one was not memorable at all. IMO.

I love John Ford's Three Godfathers, especially during the holidays and I was afraid Tokyo Godfathers might be too heretical for me. But I loved it! The updated characters were perfect and goofy and touching. The animation made the moments of coincidence and magic (magic realism?) very imaginable.

Watched the little mermaid live action version recently and I have thoughts.
I’ll start with the worst part first. Lin Manuel Miranda needs to be put down. The Scuttle song cannot be forgiven.
Seriously that song is a crime against humanity just replace it with Cartman’s cover of Poker Face and you’ll have a better time.
Scuttle overall is just not funny or charming at all. I already don’t care too much for Awkwafina, but her performance combined with terrible writing just made me hate Scuttle. Her only good moment was during the start of Kiss the Girl.
Sebastian and Flounder are fine in terms of voice and personality. Their CGI designs are a little… let’s just say that 2D animation has its benefits.
The romance is awesome! They really focus on it rather than devoting a lot of time to side character hijinks, so I believed the romance a lot more.
Speaking of the romance, Eric has way more character! His song is a lovely parallel to Part of Your World where he yearns for adventure in the uncharted oceans. They have more of a connection, and I really was rooting for them.
Ursula. Oh my god, Ursula was incredible. Melissa McCarthy put everything into her performance.
Honestly, nearly every actor absolutely slayed their role. Well, except one but he’s not that important. Eric, Ariel, and Ursula were the main focus and I loved every scene involving them.
I also liked Grimsby. Get yourself a wingman like him.
Under the Sea was also pretty good. Since they didn’t have the advantages of animation, they used the advantages of ocean life already being insane. I was not expecting feather stars to make an appearance, but they were there.
Was it just me, or did Javier Bardem seem like he didn’t care about his role? Maybe he was trying to seem stoic, but it came across to me as if he just wanted to be doing something else.
They also kind of imply he got around lol. All the sisters are referred to as his daughters and they all come from different oceans with wildly different features according to where they’re from. Good for him I guess?
Also Ursula doesn’t even turn people into those horrid creatures anymore. She straight-up disintegrates people.
Eric had a characterization sort of similar to live action Jasmine. I like them both, but do what you will with that information.
The wedding scene was a downgrade ngl. I wished it happened more like the original where a bunch of sea creatures wreck the place. But Ariel does physically fight Ursula which is pretty fun.
Why did they give the redhead the pink dress as the wedding dress? I know it’s an homage, I like the design, but it just clashes with the hair.
Oh, one more thing. They actually handle the “feminist princess” stuff they like doing in their live action movies well. They follow the whole “show don’t tell” rule by letting Ariel save him in the final fight, and they don’t linger on it or draw attention to it like it’s some massive step forward. They treat it like any other triumphant victory.
Overall, I give it a 6/10. I’ll always prefer the original and don’t really care if I see it again, but it’s a nice romance with some good music. I honestly would’ve been nice enough for a 7/10 if that stupid ass Scuttlebutt song wasn’t in there.

I re-watched the Beauty and the Beast live action remake with my husband this evening, and I have been struck once again with a thought I need to get off my chest.
I'm tired of people hating on remakes. Now, I understand people have different opinions on what they like, and that's not the argument, but the vitriol against the entire concept of remakes has me perplexed and frustrated.
Let me explain:
Many people enjoy live theater. People go see the same with different productions, hell, even the same production on different nights to see a new experience. To see different people's interpretations of the source material, or a revamp of an older production. Look at the Dallas Les Mis or the Broadway revival of Pippin.
When someone does something new with a role or a production it is new and innovative, or at least different and (most of the time) appreciated for it's ingenuity.
People don't say, okay, show is closed it can never, ever be done again.
Why does this have to be the case for movies?
Why are movies expected to tell a story and never have it told again?
Movies are ridiculously more accessible than theater, shouldn't we want to see differing interpretations of things in a medium the average person can see?
Maybe a person can save up a lot of money and travel to NYC to see West Side Story on Broadway once (only when it is actually running), but that's a pipe dream for most people. I can sit on my couch and, for much cheaper, I can watch Russ Tamblyn or Mike Faist play Riff. Whenever I want.
The concept of seeing new takes on stories should not be kept by those who can "afford it". I love the fact that I can watch the same movie, but different. See others ideas of how it could be.
I understand the argument that companies like Disney are just doing it to make money, and that may be true, but that's why they make movies in the first place, right?
I like watching remakes and I'm tired of pretending they all suck just because it's "already been done before". So has every Broadway show touring and revival and concert. Even covers of songs (to go beyond theater).
I like the options remakes give people.
I like remakes.

I’ve been thinking. What’s a movie that would genuinely be bad if there was a Muppet version of it?
