Today is a very special day because today is the eleventh anniversary of Rise of the Guardians!

ROTG is very dear to me because it introduced me to the Guardians of Childhood book series by the wonderful William Joyce and opened the window that lit up the very dark room that was my life at the time and made me want to be a writer.

So, I decided to celebrate with a special moodboard of my OTPs, Katherine Shalazar/Jack Frost (Jatherine/Snow Goose) and Katherine Shalazar/Nightlight (Kathlight/Bedtime Stories).

Yes, they are the same couple, but just at different ages. Nightlight and Katherine are 12, and Jack Frost and Mother Goose are 18.

For those who don't know, Katherine Shalazar grows up to be Mother Goose, and Nightlight doesn't die; he grows up to be Jack Frost~

I’d greatly appreciate if you took the time to read this but it’s okay if you don’t. :)

I’ve been asked this a lot in the past but I feel I should officially address it because it is indeed a very weird coincidence. And it’s honestly a bit laughable at the end of the day… but I can’t help but feel a little bothered because it still goes on.

Over the years of shipping Jiara/Ivyfrost as an oc x canon pairing, I’ve heard the Kiara-Katherine comparison many many times, and I just want to clear the air. I’ve never read the Guardians books, so I know absolutely nothing about Katherine other than she portrays Mother Goose (which I Googled out of curiosity). I believe the visual resemblance between my character Kiara and Katherine was brought to my attention a couple years ago in DeviantArt, where an individual approached me and asked why I based an original character off of a book character. I was genuinely confused as to who she was referring to… but it was solved smoothly. There was no issue at all. They were super chill and understanding.

Another funny comparison I discover upon joining tumblr in 2020 was that Jiara was the name of another ship from a TV series, which I’m sure many may be familiar with. “Outer Banks” is currently one of my favorite shows, but it was slightly shocking how much Kiara Carrera and JJ Maybanks bore resemblance to my little pairing of Kiara Ivy and Jack Frost.

The last one that took me by surprise was a Dramione reference, from a friend on Instagram. To say the least, I didn’t think about it until it was brought to my attention. But I accept it 😂

But I want to reiterate this:

Kiara Ivy is my main original character, based on myself and my life experiences. I grew up adding to this story, learning lessons of my own. And then eventually Kiara became her own concept and I decided I wanted to build a universe around that.

Kiara is 1000000000% original and a product of ideas I have had over the past few years. I plan to write a book and produce a homemade TV series about this storyline. She is written in a canon universe based around dark fairytale lore and mythology. Yes, this concept of mine was inspired by the movie ROTG, but again I’ve never read the books and hadn’t even heard of them until I joined Tumblr and DeviantArt a few years ago.

Comparisons will always be made, no matter what. We perceive things based on our own interests and perspectives. And it’s kind of funny how we draw connections in different places.

***I’ll prolly go back and edit this a few more times so expect changes in the future. ***

Again, thank you for taking the time to read this. It was a funny coincidence to realize my pairing bears resemblance to so many other couples but I also hope those who appreciate Kiara x Jack content are not mistaking it for another couple. :)

Eureka Jones (whose appearance was based on Tip Tucci from home) she was a orphan who ran away from the foster care system and lived on her own for a while. She can sense spirits but can't actually see them so a big source of conflict between her and Jack is she can hear & talk to him. But still he needs someone who can SEE him, and she's a but too cynical for that. She can she the other guardians since they're not dead like Jack. Over the course of the movie she learns to let go of her cynicism and finally sees Jack for the first time.

Originally she was a halloween spirit who represents bravery to counter Pitch's fear. But I decided to go way of the books and have her start out as a normal girl like Katherine. I did play around making her connected to fire/Sun in some way but Music is not much common for Jack Frost x OC.

Another idea was Eureka being the grandchild of Katherine/Mother Goose and Nightlight. The latter who was Jack Frost in the books, here he would've grown into Old Man Winter & Movie!Jack takes his place to fix the screwy timelines.

I also have a self insert who is shipped with Bunnymund. She is a grown woman who still believes in the spirits to show there is room left for joy in wonder in adults too and because I grew out of my crush on jack.

Would you ever write a crossover between TSC (in continuity with your Crystal Springs series) and another fandom?

Oh most definitely! I have notes for one with RotG/Guardians of Childhood, I read the books and EVERYTHING to see how it would work out! I GOT NOTES EVEN!

I did not date them. I threw them onto my "bits and pieces" onenote page in the Crystal Springs tab which is A) full to bursting with, well, BITS AND PIECES, and B) dated June 6, 2016 but that's when I started the page, so everything on there is uh. After that date but lord knows WHEN FROM.

I really need to start dating things. Did ARCHAEOLOGY CLASSES teach me NOTHING?!?!? (The answer is yes, when they were 8:30ams and I was fallin asleep)

You'll NOTICE that there's a whole section crossed out! I got the idea after seeing RotG for the bazillionth time, wrote it out, then went to look at the source material, the books, the Guardians of Childhood, which was vASTLY different and kinda threw my original idea out of the water? So I crossed it out and then wrote fresh thoughts below. That all would've been in 2017 or 2018, I believe!

BUT REGARDLESS, HERE! TAKE THESE classified NOTES ANYWAY! COPY pasted FRESH from ONENOTE!

RISE OF THE GUARDIANS XOVER: Pitch hopes that by bringing back Mother Nature he can bring back his influence since they did team up so he somehow finds out about the other dimension and decides to grab the Mother Nature there, but then discovers her council and decides to bring over the Legends as he thinks they're the evil versions of the guardians

Plan backfires: the Legends are good and also too powerful for the summoning he did so he gets the Legates instead

Mother Nature was Pitch's daughter who basically disowned him bc he didn’t come back for her and was too far gone, evilly speaking, so you'll have to work around that

Mans haunted by nightmares

Maybe they bring back his past memories of his daughter

So he tries to find her, discovers she's mother nature, tries to have her join him in taking out the guardians and she recoils like 'I had hoped…but of course not. It was too good to be true; it always is

And magics him away

And he decides he'll find his own guardians, and pull them from another universe--maybe she tips him off by saying something about 'every time, every universe, it's always the same with you, no matter what changes or who is good or who is bad'

So he goes to FT's place, Mother Goose's place, and finds tomes of other worlds and universes and finds one that will pull other people from their world into his

And he cackles and begins his work

Unfortunately, FT in the other universe sees this and manages to wave away the spells/enchantments; search is underway to figure out what timeline this has come from

But the spell is quite powerful; though it has been waived from the Legendary figures, it still needs to complete what it was sent out to do--so it grabs the Legates

This causes Xander, Myles, Charlie, Jacqueline, and Blossom to be sent to the RotG world

And that's where my notes ended! Shenanigans do ensue, of course, and Dite helps Jack sneak into the other world bc of COURSE she does since the Legates who didn't get whooshed over are under like. Strict orders to NOT get bamf'd away but Dite's like THAT'S MY GIRLFRIEND!!!! I NEED TO SAVE HER!!!! and Jack's like listen. Listen. that's my sister. I'M not under any bans 👀👀👀 and off he goes!!!

the potential is so fun. slash funny. these are other errant thoughts about it:

the ANGST for rotg Jack when his SISTER is there but it's not his actual SISTER but another universe's version of him's sister just, just think of the ANGST

rotg Jack and Jacquie get caught by Pitch and he's like "YOU;RE Jack Frost. and YOU'RE Jack Frost. ARE THERE ANY OTHER JACK FROSTS I SHOULD KNOW ABOUT??? And tsc3 Jack Frost taps his shoulder, and he turns around, and Jack's like (charming Blaise-esque smile) hi :) AND PUNCHES HIM IN THE FACE

rotg Jack Frost being like YOU GUYS DON'T NEED TO USE A STICK FOR YOUR MAGIC??? YOU'RE STICK FREE???? JUST HANDS????

tsc Jack Frost: there's TWO OF THEM while rotg Jack and Jacquie are like 😈😈 like that meme

Imagine North trying to wrangle Charlie as he's climbing all over the place like "woah! cool! sweet!"

Blossom in bunnymund's lil place. Oh my god. Toothiana thinks Myles is the cutest thing. He kids so squished. He also has a lot of mom trauma that gets dug up. I think they're both crying at one point. While he's being squished to death by Toothiana

Headcanons pt ???? revenge of the sith

Jack

It’s very easy for him to unsettle people. All he has to do is shut down his emotions and be completely blank faced. His natural thousand yard stare has spooked a number of other frost spirits.

Despite being physically the youngest in the group, he is very out of touch with trends and such. He might hear some in passing when he encounters children but he has the loosest grasp on them.

He is also the least in touch with technology. He understands cars somewhat because he sees them all the time but he has little idea on everything else. It amuses North greatly to see Jack try and use a phone. The great Furby incident of ‘98 will be held against Jack for quite some time.

The concept of dolls confuses him greatly but some actually unsettle him. Especially ones that talk with low batteries.

Mother Nature

Her wrath is unmatched. She’s very cold towards humans but she doesn’t go out of her way to hurt them. If they are unfortunate enough to suffer from her weather, she doesn’t celebrate it.

Nymphs, Driads and other nature spirits alike know of her and are mostly terrified of her. At often times they either call her “Queen Nature”, “Lady Nature” or not even refer to her by name if they can help it. Usually its out of respect and out of sheer terror.

She in fact has a few underlings and various spirits she allowed to take up residence in her kingdom.They are fiercely loyal to her and sometimes get portions of offerings that Mother Nature gets.

She rarely swims but according to Jack, she looks like a stringy haired ghost girl when wet. She took the joke fairly well and thinks of it now and then when she has to wet her hair.

Despite being close friends with Sandy, she blocked him out of her dreams for a reason or two. Sandy does not take it as an insult, as Nature has always been a mostly closed off person. If she wants to share her dreams with him, she will. If she doesn’t then he will be just fine. Some dreams are just too intimate and private for her to share. Some dreams of hers were preserved for her with the help of a different friend, so she could never forget them.

North

He loves researching new trends and toys that kids are into. As such he is the most in touch guardian despite his direct interaction with kids being low. The blind bag craze is one of his favorites, since they’re often unpredictable and gets kids very excited.

It’s no secret that bootleg toys have an odd place in his heart. be it bootleg Furbys or lazily painted pokemon figurines, he’s probably got them stored somewhere. He has considered giving some to naughty children as a joke but has yet to act on it.

Sometimes he checks in on his former homeland(Russia) and worries over the youth. He makes sure those situations like theirs get enough to persevere through the worst of it all.

He has had a straggler or two find their way to the North Pole and settle in the secret village for refuge. It’s rare for him to allow it and usually its temporary but some do stay for the rest of their lives.

Despite loving cookies, he has a soft spot for traditional foods from his homeland. Like Tula Gingerbread and Chak-Chak. He has a good time trying to make some for himself and he often does it when he has an emotional low day.

Katherine

Her ties to belief are a little different than the others. So long as her stories continue to get told and printed, she’ll still have power.

She loves to collect books that her former readers end up writing someday. The horrible dollar store romance books hit differently when she needs a laugh.

When stressed or put into a difficult spot, she can be very impulsive. Almost to the point where her spells backfire in unpredictable ways. Its almost humorous to see the level headed voice of reason suddenly go full dumbass.(For Jack at least.)

If she had to pick a favorite time of year it’d be early Autumn. It’s perfect reading weather according to her but isn’t dreadfully cold.

Despite her appearance, you’d think classical music would be her favorite. It’s actually a lot of songs that would be considered “Dad songs”. That is 100% North’s fault and she loved to blast those songs when she has to clean her bookshelves/reorganize them.

Hi! Hope you had a good week. What is your headcanon for each of the Guardians' love language?

I'll lay out my best guess for each Guardian (plus Pitch and Seraphina for fun). Nightlight: Quality time for sure, and I'm thinking acts of service would be big for him. Katherine: definitely words of affirmation, and I suspect being friends with Nightlight makes her big on quality time too. Ombric: Gifts! He invents and makes things because he loves to, he makes a safe haven for learners because he loves to share! He likes to give! North: Also gifts! On one hand, he might've picked it up from Ombric, but on the other hand he was a thief so more likely he knows the importance of physical reminders. Plus, he likes making things Tooth: I'm putting Tooth down as an actions person, though she's not one to shy away from verbally telling people she cares either. Sandy: Sandy, used to working constantly would probably appreciate someone spending time with him. Uninterrupted focus probably means a lot to someone who doesn't speak. Bunny: As an artist, he's probably a gifter. Affectionate words aren't really his thing, but no matter how much he and North argue about Christmas vs. Easter, he always tries to outdo North with Christmas gifts. Jack: Attention would be a big thing for Jack, so almost anything is great for him. I want to say physical touch is his thing, but more likely than not he's an actions dude, though he'd be quick to brush affectionate acts off with a joke. Seraphina: She would most likely best appreciate words of affirmation. A gift would make her feel like she's being bought, while touch would be invasive. I always imagine she and Sandy have tea every few decades, so quality time is definitely on the table. Pitch: Another person of action. When I think of Pitch showing love, I mostly just think about Kozmotis, all those years ago, subjecting himself to guard the fearlings prison because he so loved his daughter

A doodle page I did of the modern au

Jack used to date someone before he died whose name was Katherine. Though she was the one who faded away first, then Jack not long after.

Rumors spread that Katherine is out there somewhere that ended up like Jack. As a spirit. But since Jack knew he didn’t remember his past memories until he was given the Tooth Box, he thought that Katherine wouldn’t remember him if they were to meet again. Even if they were to meet he didn’t want to cause his ex gf confusion.

Also other things to note, Katherine and Jack’s deaths aren’t like 100 years ago. It’s pretty recent (like a year before the Modern AU “starts”) since it’s a modern au and things are altered to fit in the AU. So everyone’s really in the sad times for both the spirits and their families. The more I type the more I confuse myself and make things sadder LMAOOO sobs

Some RotG Episode Ideas bc that Potential Animated Series Project Post by @lumin0usfox Inspired Me

(( i haven't read book 5 of goc yet so mega apologies if some of this is off (im writing this with knowledgeup to War of Dreams) and assuming that most people outside of the fandom haven't read the books. im kinda writing it for that mindset))

- Opening episode is Jack and Jamie working on trying to get Jack believers. hyjinks ensue.

- like following the logic that William Joyce has already set that Burgess doesn't really have a specific time. like yeah it's like 2012 but it's also in the past so the Internet isn't really that big of a thing. So they can't just make a blog post or YouTube video and have it go viral. so they focus on more in-person not-offline ways of getting believers

-or idk maybe the technology does exist and a youtube video goes viral and Jack gets a lot of believers that way. the rest of the guardians are just... "is that allowed???".

- I know this is super self-indulgent but can we please have Jamie and North try to teach Jack, Bunny, and Tooth memes please. if nothing else than as a running joke

-an episode of all of the guardians checking up on pitch to make sure he's not trying anything. and since Jack's lost most of his memories this could be where he (and the audience) learns Pitch's past

- at least one episode that's not too much of jack really interacting with the guardians or the kids from Burgess specifically and we kind of get more of a glimpse into what his life was like before becoming a guardian or having believers

-holiday special must include a party at North's. I think this might actually be canon actually. plus sandy goes nuts for the eggnog so that's gonna be fun. Sandy absolutely destroys Bunny at charades.

-an episode where Jack is kinda awkward and still figuring out his role and dynamic with the guardians. like North invites his to spend time at the pole after he learns Jack doesn't have much of a home outside of The Oak of Sorrows and they really confront that whole "u guess abandoned me for 300 years and now we friend and give me a second I need to adjust. maybe they learn about how lonely jack felt or that they didn't know how bad it was."

-episode to introduce Katherine and how she's really come into her role as Mother Goose. maybe she's spent sometime moving on from nightlight. she still misses him obviously, but she's recognize that jack isn't him anyway and i can't imagine her trying to force anything or interfere with his life if she thinks he's happy. if the episode doesn't start with "Once upon a time, ..." then i give up.

- I really can't imagine romance being like a main focus point here but the grounds are kind of already laid for Jack and tooth to get together from the movie. And also because lesbians are powerful and make everything better, Katherine and mother nature could have bonded over their conflicts with pitch and IDK they would be an absolute power couple. Also Sandy is a literal alien, so I don't think he really cares much about human gender roles or standards. Non-binary icon.

- maybe because Jack hasn't been able to talk to the Man in the Moon for so long the Guardians 2 Straight Up take him to the Moon to get closure. This whole event can be like a 2 episode special or something. Maybe this is where Jack learns the night light lore if that would be something that anyone would wanna touch. (i love GoC and I've been a part of the fandom since at least 2016 but damn i still can't think of a non-completely convoluted way of connecting Jack to Nightlight. Maybe something happens after book 5 that causes NightLight to forget about the Guardians when he's in his human form the Guardians don't know who he became when he became human so they lost track of one another. (It could explain why the Guardians don't recognize Jack is Nightlight even though they look exactly alike and act the same and have the same powers.))

- these are all really plot-heavy so what are some light-headed episode ideas?? uhh... let's see...

-Similar to how Bunny has egg hunts and tooth has puting teeth under the pillow, Jack and Jamie try to figure what some tradition for him could be and try to popularize them.

- Jack finds out north used to be a criminal and the Bandit King. it's absolute chaos.

- Jamie has to get a bit more creative with coming up with excuses for why he keeps getting caught talking to the air.

-So what if this takes place a few years after RotG. We can see has Burgess has grown a bit and Jack has to see Jamie grow up a bit and start to enter high school. he still believes in jack of course but it could be bitter sweet plus Jamie at age 14 would be physically the same age as Jack. ~~ Parallels ~~ the inherent existentialism of being immortal, u know, fun stuff (if done right).

-Jack tracking down his sister's family in the modern day to know they're okay and so he can see the consequences of his sacrifice.

-Sophie is Bunny's helper for the day.

-really just a season where jack figures out his place with the guardians and more about who he is. those themes of found family and building trust with those around you. oooh that's the good stuff.

-I know this is ambitious but maybe like the first season could be Jack kind of building that relationship with the Guardians and his new Believers with hints of who he was in the past and then like the second season is the deeper dive into who he was unlike it just gets really deep and oh my God I can't stop thinking about those now.

i got this adorable little headcanon after rewatching the movie 12 times already (ok maaaybe im a lil bit obsessed,) that once Jamie becomes a guardian of some sort when he's older Phil takes up the father figure role instead of North and they form a relationship similar to Katherine & Kailash
