okay but a thing i think about every time we have one of those few day periods where the weather is not fit for even a dog being outside is how the hell are homeless people surviving this. like i said in a previous post it's currently -40 degrees with the windchill and i honestly cannot imagine how someone who does not have a place to go inside and spend the night is supposed to not freeze to death. it makes me upset every time the temperature drops like this, i cannot imagine how many homeless people will be frozen to death in the next 24 hours if they somehow haven't already. the fact that there are hundreds of empty houses sitting there empty with totally functional heating while people are DYING from the cold on a street corner makes me SO FUCKING ANGRY while at the same time my heart is breaking in pieces for them. rest in peace to every poor person who will not make it through the weekend. i am so sorry.

Nearly four months after a homeless encampment under the Ville-Marie Expressway was dismantled, about two-thirds of the people who were evicted are still unhoused, according to advocates.
Community workers argue that given the number of people in the city who are living in makeshift shelters, a strategy, other than simple eviction, needs to be developed.
“Encampments are going to be with us for a while,” David Chapman of Resilience Montreal told Global News.  “That’s just the facts. The question is, how do we engage them in a responsible manner?”
Some former campers are still being moved around, like Jacko Stuben. He and one other person moved to a wooded spot near Atwater Avenue, next to the Ville-Marie Expressway, not far from where he and more than a dozen others were evicted by Transports Québec last July to make way for what the ministry said was urgent repair work.

"OTTAWA HOMELESS HOUSED FOR NIGHT," Toronto Star. October 2, 1942. Page 11. ---- Many in Rooming Establishments. Tourist Cabins or Outside City ---- Ottawa. Oct. 2 (CP) - Moving day in Ottawa passed yesterday with all homeless persons apparently housed for one night at least in rooming establishments, tourist cabins or houses beyond the city limits. The board of control, which in the past has had to meet space. requests from each of the government's building departments, resolved that all future requests for more room must come from the new "space committee" set up this week by the government. The board refused a defence department request for erection of four temporary wooden buildings near the centre of the city. The board is negotiating with Donald Gordon, chairman of the wartime prices and trade board, for a ruling restricting the right of landlords to evict tenants on the grounds the landlord intends to make alterations to houses. A communication from Mr. Gordon indi- cated the proposal is being favorably received. Negotiations are also under way with Wartime Housing Limited for the erection of a number of permanent dwellings. Mayor Lewis announced it was likely 300 houses would be built. Drop In Montreal Montreal. Oct. 2 - (CP) - Movers report a "drop." in some cases said to reach 50 per cent., in the number of families moved within the city yesterday.

OH it's so late I thought I missed it! happy wipwednesday <3
I hope you're well I am humbly requesting my gay disaster of a firefighter and his arsonist
<3<3<3<3<3<3
WIP Wednesday (3/20) | Arsonist Neil / Firefighter Andrew AU (Part 117)
Neil spends the better part of his evening looking through his meager wardrobe. He assumes it’s commonplace to not look like a hobo when you meet up with a friend. But unfortunately, homeless-chic is his style. He pushes a hand through his hair. Well, at least his clothes are clean. That’s the main thing.
He’s got access to a laundry room and a hot shower, thankfully. He can remember several instances when he would’ve killed for one or the other. Montreal, for one. And that summer they spent squatting in Texas. Neil wouldn’t recommend living in a rundown house with no plumbing or air conditioning, in the middle of July in Austin. He can feel a sweat-soaked shirt sticking to his back and tugs at his clothes before he realizes it’s just a shitty memory.
Still though, he can’t shake the feeling of being grimy. So Neil goes to take a shower before bed, then climbs into bed with the air conditioning on just in case. Even though it’s November in Columbia, SC. He pulls the blanket up to his chin, because with the A/C blasting, it’s almost freezing. But it’s quite nice here in his little cocoon.
Neil goes through his clothes mentally and decides his nicest outfit is jeans and a t-shirt that isn’t faded. So he’ll wear that tomorrow. And he can’t forget his wallet, because the whole premise of this bet was that Neil would buy Andrew coffee. Besides that, it would be rude to have a new friend pay his way. Especially when Neil has bookoos of blood money to spend.
-
The next morning, Neil wakes up at a decent time and grabs some complimentary breakfast from the hotel’s buffet. It’s so convenient. A nice, hot meal waiting for him as soon as he wakes up. Perhaps he should stay in hotels like this more often.
A tiny voice in his head tells him to take more than he needs and stash it in the room, but once again, he doesn’t need to do that. Neil eats his fill and grabs a couple of individually wrapped muffins to stuff into his pocket before going back to his room.
There aren’t any games today, which is a bummer. Neil supposes he could try and watch something besides exy, but it would most likely be a waste of time. He’s never cared for any other sport. He flips channels and watches the clock until one o’clock starts creeping up on him. Then he changes clothes and gets in his car and goes.

Hiii! Omg i gotta Ask . Is mtl truly that bad? Like I’ve heard there’s some fun things to do but your recent post got me thinking hehe. Sorry if I’m intruding
As someone who has lived there my whole life I don't realise how fucking insane it is until I go on vacation.
Here is a short list of weird, fucked up and only in mtl can you find these things:
Language wars. Ya. We get ultra heated about this shit. The PM of Quebec can literally pass one of the most racist laws of all time and get less backlash than if he 'favoritizes' one language over the other
English speakers are slowly loosing rights (mostly education rights) because French Canadians are still paranoid 400 years later that they will go extinct.
Our metro is literally a flaming piece of garbage fire
Our Olympic stadium took 30 years after its creation to finish paying off, (by our taxes)
We have a whole other tax on top of the Canadian tax
Our drivers are so bat shit crazy that driving anywhere else seems like wonderland
We hate everyone who is not us
It is so easy to get vapes, cannabis, alcohol, drugs without IDs. I can tell you right now that if you go to the dep (corner store) right outside of the Lionel-Groulx metro, the store owner used to sell all that shit (not the drugs) to any kid who came in without id.
We are so afraid of being assimilated that we hold onto our cultures like our bloodlines depended on it. Montreal Italians are still making wine, cheese, sausage, prosciutto, salami, and tomato sauce in their garages.
You may not be pick pocketed but you will be chased by homeless people (85% of the time on drugs) for your money. Small piece of advise, there is a pimp on Green Ave who harasses school age girls for money. There is a homeless lady at Atwater metro who will chase you. There is a guy who takes the Green line everyday with his rats. Charlevoix station is so badly lit that it looks like its part of a horror movie and if you were to get attacked the camera's wouldn't be able to see it.
Our gay village has like -1 gay people living there anymore because homeless people with drug addictions flock there because there is a building that provides drugs with proper equipement. Also murder in the gay village is so common its not funny. I was trying to do a project on the first movie theater in Canada who's building is in the gay village (now transformed into an A&W) and there was an active murder investigation going on when I arrived.
We purposefully create our own ghettos. Italians used to have St-Leo (which is where I'm from) and Little Italy and now have RDP, Lasalle and Laval. St-Leo is now considered little Algeria. St-Michele is for the ultra poor italians and the greeks. The Rich English live in Westmount. The slightly less rich english live in TMR. Trashy white people that aren't ethnic enough to live anywhere else live in DDO and Pierrefond. Ritzy French and some students live in Le Plateau. Jewish people live in Mile-End.
Sorry this is quite a bit but I have more if you're interested.

A French dude in Montreal, an observation post
It's hot then it's cold
Wasps have a different behavior
SQUIRRELS
Roadworks
Drivers don't care about lines on the floor
But they let you pass when you cross the road
Waiting 1 hour, do you can finally access to a waiting room and wait 4 more hours
People are kind, unless they own a restaurant
Waiters are very polite
AH... Tipping
Roadworks
I just learned there a different types of fat people
Desjardins seems to be the mayor of the city
Trucks are HUGE
Sidewalk are high
Roadworks
Boring straight roads and perpendicular streets
Old Montreal looks like an European town. Alternate universe where Paris is acceptable. But it's way too small ._.
You have a mountain and the sea withing a radius of 8km
You have to know English
It's unclear if Westmont or Anjou are part of Montreal or not
"Arrêt"
In Quebec, you don't say "CONNARD *honk*", you roadrage instead
Roadworks
A lot of administration things require you to call on the phone... yikes...
It's even worst when the people on the phone have the strongest Quebecois accent I've ever heard.
Roadworks in Mont-Royal??? Seriously?
At least the roadworks are fast. In two days, it's finished.
No car technical check
Streets smell like sugar lmao, mostly because there's someone in a radius of 5m eating something
People protesting in the street, even if they are 5 (both number of participants and their brain age)
It's legal to be openly racist???
A squirrel just jumped on my bag???
Pigeons, seagulls and squirrels living in harmony
Police sirens (or emergency??) are the most dramatic sound I've ever listened
People are openly LGBT+, that great!
Also companies are openly opportunistic
The metro is 3 or 4 time longer than the one in Paris
Taking the bus is actually slower than you might expect
Roadworks
(At the time I write this, I'm homeless and jobless, so I might continue this post soon!)

An unhoused man is suing the City of Montreal and its police force, alleging he has received hundreds of tickets, including some on the same day, while trying to help the local homeless community.
Guylain Levasseur, and his dog Misha, have been living out of a camper van for years. During that time, he’s parked outside Beaudry Metro, handing out food, clothing, and offering a warm place to stay.
“That motorhome helped people living in the street to get warm, to get food," he said. "Sometimes, they need to talk.”
But Levasseur alleges that, for years, he was targeted by police and ticketed more than 230 times.
“They want me to leave. I said no. I’m helping people, [giving] food, and things like that,” he said. [...]

Listen Montreal, my beloved and behated hometown - I am well aware that you have never completed a construction project less than 5 years overdue (if you complete it at all...), you became the laughing stock of the country after the interim mayor who replaced the mayor that was forced to resign for corruption managed to get himself arrested on 14 criminal counts of fraud and conspiracy, your police are accused of being in league with organized crime while your streets are filled with the homeless, tourists actually take photos with your orange traffic cones, because of course sinkholes can literally pop up and swallow a street whole without any warning, and to be completely honest your level of competence more or less mirror that stupid prancing horse team: flashes of brilliance, waterfalls of clownery - but DAMN IT, you are also beautiful and refined and incomparable and you WILL be nice to Charles this Sunday.

A Canadian college invited a trans-identified male to speak on violence against women in observation of the 33rd anniversary of an act of mass femicide.
Fae Johnstone, a trans-identified male, gave a keynote address today at Durham College in North Oshawa, Ontario as part of the school’s National Day of Remembrance Ceremony marking the anniversary of a massacre that left 14 women dead.
Johnstone, who describes himself as “trans feminine and non-binary,” is the Executive Director at Wisdom2Action, an LGBT-focused consulting firm. Johnstone’s website lists him as a “public speaker, consultant, educator and community organizer on unceded, unsurrended Algonquin territory.”
On Twitter, Johnstone announced his speech was part of the school’s “16 Days of Activism” to end “GBV [gender-based violence].”
Tumblr media
The event Johnstone spoke at today is described on the Durham College website as commemorating the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women in Canada.
The Day was first inaugurated by Parliament in 1991 as a way to honor the lives lost during the École Polytechnique massacre, which took place on December 6, 1989 in Montreal, Quebec. On the campus of the scientific university, a man identifying as an “anti-feminist” targeted female students for slaughter.
Prior to shooting all of the women in a mechanical engineering class, Marc Lépine, born Gamil Rodrigue Liass Gharbi, told the male students to leave the room. He then told the women he was “fighting feminism” and expressed a hatred of women’s rights to an education.
“You’re women, you’re going to be engineers. You’re all a bunch of feminists. I hate feminists,” Lépine said, before opening fire on the female students. Lépine later committed suicide on the campus after taking 14 women’s lives, and injuring 10 more people.
In total, Lépine murdered 14 women in an act that has since been recognized an act of terrorism.
Tumblr media
After his speech at Durham College tonight, Johnstone was confronted by Jennifer Anne, a Canadian women’s rights advocate who has been working to secure the release of the analysis that was done on gender self-identification legislation in Canada.
Anne attended the event and recorded some of Johnstone’s address before proposing a question when given the opportunity by the event’s host.
“Today is the day we mark 14 women who were killed in Montreal by a man who subjected them simply because they were female. It is sex-based violence, not gender based violence. I am a female,” Anne is heard saying, before listing off examples where self-identification lead to the victimization of women.
“I am wondering why, on this day, we would have a man dressed in women’s garb to talk to us about sex-based violence and keeping women safe? How can women stay safe in this environment?”
Johnstone replies curtly: “Thank you. Next question!”
“Really? So you’re not going to answer it because you know I’m right?” Anne responds. The host of the event, as well as other administrators, are then heard trying to discourage Anne from continuing to assert her question.
Anne uploaded the recordings to her Twitter account.
Tumblr media
Johnstone’s consulting firm, Wisdom2Action, marked the anniversary of the women’s deaths by posting an infographic titled “Queering GBV,” which asserted that “gender based violence disproportionately impacts 2SLGBTQ+ people who are BIPOC, transfeminine, bisexual, youth, newcomers, disabled, homeless, and/or involved in sex work.”
For Canadian Women’s History Month in October, Johnstone was “honored” by a Government ministry for his work with “2SLGBTQI+” people.
Tumblr media
Johnstone had previously slammed the Canadian Femicide Observatory for “retweeting TERF and TERF rhetoric.” TERF is a derogatory term most frequently applied to women who acknowledge two distinct sex groups.
He also claimed the Declaration on Women’s Sex Based Rights was a “roadmap for erasing trans people from public life, denying our rights and restricting our healthcare.”
Johnstone is not the first trans-identified male be given a platform to speak on the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence against Women.
Last year on December 6, the Prince Edward Island Advisory Council on the Status of Women invited Anastasia Preston, a biological male who identifies as a woman, to speak on “gender-based violence” at a vigil honoring the women murdered in the École Polytechnique massacre.
Preston, a “trans community outreach coordinator” at a sexually transmitted disease resource service, became the subject of widespread outrage on social media after he was interviewed by the Prince Edward Island branch of the CBC and claimed that trans-identified males were not given enough opportunities to speak on violence against women.
“For decades, trans women have been kept out of the conversation around gender-based violence,” Preston was quoted as saying, going on to assert that he intended to “speak about some of [his] experiences of harassment on P.E.I.” at the event memorializing the 14 women who were murdered.
After the article began to circulate, CBC P.E.I was so inundated with backlash they had to turn off their Twitter comment section. Johnstone defended Preston at the time, calling him a “hero and a champion.”
By Jennifer Seiland Jennifer is a founding member of the Reduxx team, writing with a focus on crimes against women and sex-based rights advocacy. She is located in the American south where she is a passionate animal welfare advocate and avid coffee drinker.

First pic is when I lived in Montreal, second pic is me now… that’s insane to me like??? I used to be so fucking skinny. 5 years apart. I know a lot of stress + covid lockdown + worsening depression + literal homelessness all contributed to my weight gain but I’m still so mad at myself for getting to this point. I used to wear a 32, now I can’t even fit in a 34. My self confidence in my body has pretty much disappeared. I want to start exercising and eating healthier but I’m also terrified I’m just gonna relapse & go back to being bulimic :) anyway I hate life

Citizens concerned about plans for new Montreal homeless shelter near schools, daycares – Montreal
A plan for a new homeless shelter in Rosemont is raising concern among citizens. The city is in the midst of acquiring an old church to turn it into a new resource for the unhoused, but residents accuse authorities of ignoring their concerns about the proximity to multiple schools, daycares and playgrounds. André Gratien lives just steps from Sainte-Bibiane Church, and said his children play in…

Jacen knew something was up when he met up with that witch. He was promised he will find his true love and it all started as a play. It turned out that she was liar and he paid a price too big for that little magic. As the sun set that day, he felt his tail weaken and as the last ray of the sun left the earth, his tail had turned into a pair of legs. With the help of his dolphin friends, he was pushed into the shore. Alone and helpless, the man walked the beach naked, found himself some clothes to cover on.
It’s been exactly three months since that day and the boy was far from finding out how to get his tail back. The trickster sea witch was nowhere to be found and slowly, he also adapted to the human life. It was far too complicated and everything was overwhelming. People around him called him crazy for being frightened by cars and walking around without shoes in. He hated them. Basically a homeless now, the boy walked the streets of Montreal, fascinated by the structures and annoyed by the noise. “Humans create weird annoying noises.” Feeling overwhelmed by them and causing a traffic in the middle of the road, the boy ran off, until he found himself colliding with someone, shoving the other down his bum. “I’m so sorry..” He apologized, covering his ears from the traffic noise.
