So my other obsession of the month is wheel of time and I saw episode 7 and boy o BOY do I have major thoughts and I need to get them out.
Siuan?? What the hell? Following LONG ass post is in defence of Siuan because the general consensus there is right now about Siuan just doesn't rhyme for me.
ONE thing all of Siuan actions did, it brought out SO MUCH .
Liandrin drew out 1 dark friend (Moiraines nephew) and he consequently got locked away (or killed).
One Forsaken showed herself to an entire city, no more hiding or denying (at least not from the Aes Sedai because there were like 14(!) there)
Siuan clearly has doubts about Verin and Verin acted exactly as expected (now I think Verin has a lot more going on but hey 🤷🏼‍♀️)
When Siuan shields Rand, she pushes Moiraine to say all of her intentions with Rand and their decades build plans in front off Rand as if he is not there. Which Moiraine does to protect Rand from Siuan.
Siuan asks Rand if he has channelled carefully and deliberately (not verbatim but this is the general idea), which he hasn't. She scolds him for it and says that he hasn't learned much in 6 months, which is absolutely true.
Which leads to:
Moiraine is shielded (something I do not think Lan figured out on his own) and subsequently released of said shield by Rand when she tells Rand that she trusts him. When last season Moiraine very clearly showed that she doesn't. Rand needed to hear that from Moiraine. It pushed Rand to actually use the one power very DELIBERATELY and CAREFULLY otherwise, Moiraine dead. Now who again scolded Rand about that I wonder hmmm 🤔
Which brings me to the following and perhaps most important point:
Rand now 100% trusts Moiraine, he believes Moiraine does want to protect and guide him to save the world, which previously he didnt. He was confused about what was going on and felt like a toy being played from all sides. Siuan put Moiraine in an impossible situation and Moiraine chose Rand, the dragon reborn because she knows that is the right thing to do. Rand needed to be shown Moiriane will give everything to save the world including turning away from Siuan and being made to do something she does not want (closing the gate).
It is VITAL that he does because Moiraine will be the only one capable of providing Rand the protection and guidance that he needs to save the world. He only does at the end of this episode, which is nearly at the end of this season. They already lost too much time. Drastic extreme measures are unfortunately required because Siuan was right, Moiraines way wasn't working.
At the end of this episode due to Siuans actions, he doesn't trust any Aes Sedai, which is good because you know Black Ajah and doesnt trust the Forsaken, but he very clearly does trust Moiraine, and that WILL set him on the right path.
If I can trust book readers, Siuan is a very powerful channeler. However, like Egwene, it's her intelligence that is actually her greatest power. She is a crazy smart woman and nowhere near as impulsive, brash and stubborn as Moiraine, aka Pufferfish.
Something that stuck by me is that Siuan said "you have given everything, Im going to row beside you now". Siuan knows Moiraine will absolutely not let her. Moiraine is like Nyneave in that way. She would rather die than let anyone she loves do that.
Siuan has given up a lot this episode and put power back with Moiraine, leaving herself incredibly vulnerable, having lost her one true ally, Moiraine. Going back to a tower filled with enemies, she's f*cked, and she knows it, but she needs Moiraine focused on her mission, not on Siuans' potential downfall. Because that will definitely be a distraction for Moiraine.
There is no way in hell a Master chess player like Siuan would move her pawns so early and openly like she seems to be doing in this episode. That is not Siuan. Everyone in WOT world, though, needs to believe that she is (including Moiraine).

wait I do want to elaborate a bit more on what the sweetest spot for reading new spring is:
if you want siuraine -> after TGH or after TSR but before TFOH if you want to make the most of the angst
if you want aes sedai politics and are too impatient to wait until LOC -> anytime after EOTW but preferably after TGH
if you want to learn about the hunt for the dragon reborn and exactly the pains that moiriane and siuan went through to find him after reading their interaction in TGH -> after TGH or TDR or TSR
if you want the wondergirls shenanigans parallels with siuan and moiraine about their time in the tower -> after TGH
if you want the rand and moiraine parallels to really hit -> before TSR or TFOH which are THE moiraine/rand parallels books
if you want to read more backstory about moiraine’s family, history etc before she accompanies rand to Cairhien in TFOH -> after TSR
if you want to feel sadder about moiraine’s relationship with lan and siuan -> after TFOH
if you want context and history for certain aes sedai that start to feature prominently after the first half of the series (and specifically, who play a more significant role from ACOS onwards) -> after LOC
but reading it whenever you feel like doing so also works - when you should Ideally read it is not really a big deal like the fandom makes it out to be. having read the series though, I think I’m personally biased towards reading it before or after TFOH because it fits under most of the above criteria while also having the added benefit of getting to read it along with the best books in the series (TSR & TFOH) meaning you get to extend your streak of reading the best part of the series.

Season 2 predictions. Ok huge block of text, but I spend a lot of time hanging out with production stalkers
Elyas & the wolves take Hurin’s place. Perrin’s plotline is mostly unaltered from book 2, except Avi and the Maidens (and maybe Gaul) hang out with him a book early. Bain and Chiad are gay for each other.
Rand hooks up with Selene and has a huge shock in episode 4? 5? When her true intentions are revealed. He meets up with Moiriane & Lan in episode 2, and with Logain & Suian and maybe Verin in episode 3. From here we do his book 2 storyline. Moriane spends episode 1 sulking and seeking out Adeleas and Vandene to try and help her get her channeling back while searching for her favorite Dragon. Lan gets his epic two fade fight in episode 2 or 3 (Daniel Henney has been talking this up for weeks).
The Wonder Girls get book 2 story mostly unaltered. Nynaeve’s Accepted test has the ‘past’ version be her burning out in Fal Dara or her parents leaving her as a kid. Liandrin’s road trip happens in episode 4. That blonde damane girl and the sul’dam we keep seeing in advertising is the pair that train new damane, one from each side of the “relationship”. Apparently the blonde looks so young because the actor is a teen so points to the casting department for leaning into that horror.
Mat gets his book 3 storyline. Him and Liandrin have the most cursed sexual tension ever, and he’s finally severed from the dagger. He gets his luck, and meets Min in Tar Valon, and they hop Bayle Domon’s boat to chase after the Wonder Girls while “avoiding responsibility.”
Elayne and Aviendha dont meet Rand or each other for most of the series. Min gets a flashback (I don’t know why I think this but I do). Min and Egwene don’t have their stand off about Rand but all of Rand’s love interests (the Trio + Egwene + Selene) are present.
The series starts with the Gitara prophecy as a flashback (feat young Blue lovers in the Tower) and ends with an Age of Legends flashback (I win again, Lews Therin?). Ishy and Lanfear are the only Foresaken for this season, but let more out at the end of the book.

Eleven hours till season two! I'm determined to finish this rewatch. Just two more eps to go!
Now, it's time to journey the Ways through episode seven.
Here comes Shaiel with the steel spear!
For real this sequence is so hardcore. Rand, your mom's a boss.
Tigraine stabbed in the side to mirror Rand's infamous stab? More likely than you'd think.
The tension between Moiraine and Nynaeve is interesting. Moiraine treats Egwene like a well-loved student she's mentoring but Nynaeve she treats like a younger sister. She's harder on Nynaeve because she expects more from her, but she also relies on her. The hierarchy in the group is very much Moiriane-Lan, then Nynaeve, then the rest.
Loial is, of course, respected, but he's treated like a coworker who's the subject matter expert you need on the project, not yet a part of the team.
It's unclear whether the show intends for us to think that Mat chose to stay behind or if Moiraine left him behind because of his "inherent darkness." Love some ambiguity that leaves room for different potential storylines.
Disagree that Mat has an inherent darkness. Dude is just trying to survive and he'll do what he has to do. But he's also loyal as hell and a good guy underneath everything. Don't be a dick just because he's had to make choices you never did.
Lan understands what Nynaeve is worried about without her needing to say a word. Love that for them.
Nynaeve hearing Machin Shin, hearing all of her greatest fears whispered and screamed into her ears, and all it does is make her pissed enough to channel. I love her so much.
Nynaeve can't protect the people she loves? Fuck you, Machin Shin, she'll show you.
Fucking Padan Fain. My one hope for his character is that his story ends less ignominiously than it did in the books.
Moiraine's out here just throwing Mat to the wolves. Guess we'll see who well that goes in just a couple hours.
Aaaah Moiraine. She really is the queen of not-so-vaguely threatening people with a smile on her face.
I really appreciate the changes they made with Min's introduction. In Eye of the World she just blabbers about everything she sees to Moiraine (and Rand), no ethical quandaries whatsoever. Here, at least, she puts up a token protest, at the very least.
Yeeeah, the Perrin-Egwene-Rand love triangle thing is still pretty weird. But it's not as out of left field as I thought it was. There was some subtext in earlier episodes. But I still don't like it.
Not that I hate the idea of an Emonds Field polycule, this scene is just super awkward.
Lol Nynaeve following Lan. She's so obsessed with him.
And then he invites her in to meet the family. I love them so much.
I also love how awkward Nynaeve is with the guy she likes. She knows how to be the Wisdom but she doesn't always know how to be Nynaeve. But she knows what she wants.
So glad the show is, like, 100% less of a prude than the books.
The Dragon Reborn reveal is handled really, really well.
Dead faces in the trees!
Only one more ep to go! See you all at the Eye of the World.

various screaming about chapter 46 - End
Wow so uh that happened
They really did kill off Moiraine eh? I knew it was coming but damn. That's a rough time holy. The fact that her death was foreshadowed to hell and back honestly probably made it worse because I was waiting for it the entire novel.
And THE FINAL BATTLE WITH RAHVIN AND HOW EVERYONE DIED BUT THEN TIME SHENANIGANS!!!! Literally got chills.
*insert parts 4-15 of Rand really needs to see a therapist* rand in the last 100 pages desperately needed help. All the lines "I can sleep when I dead" "I deserve to die" "I deserve to suffer for everyone's lives on my hands" hooo boy. When Lan was like "we are the same," yeah maybe cause you both have depression? Rand do not listen to Lan. I love Lan a lot but also he is not what perfect mental health looks like.
"moiraine was a warrior just as much as I am." "Today was a good day to die." Like bro BRO!!!! IM SUPPOSED TO FEEL NORMAL ABOUT THAT?!?!?! I AM SUPPOSED TO HAVE NORMAL FEELINGS ABOUT THIS SERIES?!?!?! siuan reacts to moiraines death please
High key lanefear was terrifying. WHEN SHE SKINNED KANDERE ALIVE
Also damn nyneve got so much character development this book like hot damn. All the girl fighting got a little annoying but whatever I can look past that. And just everything about Birgette! She was so cool. I loved her story and her character premise.
Thought that will probably be answered next book: because obviously moiraine could not have transferred the bond to nynaeve cause she isn't aes sedai (I think? Idk what the rules are honestly) so when she set it up with myrelle did she know that nynaeve was gonna be in Salidar?  Cause that's where myrelle is? Foresight 100? "Moiriane wrapped herself in mystery and manipulation until the end. The very end."
YOU WILL DO WELL RAND 😭😭😭😭
thanks rj for giving me the moiraine pov when she died like holy. "He would need to live or die without her" 😭😭😭
Also no perrin huh
Cool that uno and the gang came back for this. Lowkey kind of missed them.
BRO WHEN SIUAN AND NYNAEVE JUST STARTED SMACKING EACH OTHER! PEAK COMEDY! This scene needs to be in the show or else whats the point?
when Rand was losing his mind to lews therin! That was very cool! Like I mean sucks for rand but it was very cool to read about. I am very excited to see how they portray that in the show.
"He is as cold as he needs to be" 🥺
Also why are rand and Aviendha the best romance?
Nynaeve like "oh the aes sedai will be so happy to see us" wrong sir
Min and elyane arguing over who they need to share rand with was meh. Like girls come on just kiss it out.
When rand was screaming "grieve grieve dammit" I started sobbing. poor poor baby boy
"Nynaeve I am embarrassed to know a coward like you." And "I'm so tired of being afraid." Amazing stunning wow!
Overall an absolute ride of a book. Probably my favourite one so far! Every book I read gets better and better, very excited for the next ones!

Even if Siuan has suspicions that Moiraine and probably Lan have turned to the dark, I don't think she'd do anything too drastic without proof. Everyone else though... they have no loyalty to her, and from the outside, Moiraine and Lan are the weirdest, most suspicious pair they've ever seen. Obviously guilty.

Watching Wheel of Time without reading the books: Episode 6
I really liked this episode, but my husband hated it. He said that he couldn’t tell me why without major spoilers, but he was very Unhappy. We did spend some time laughing though, because his coworker has been sad that there was “no nudity” in the show (apparently Lan’s entire ass didn’t count) and now he got shadowy boobs in the background of the communal bathing scene. Thank you to this show for letting boobs obey the laws of physics instead of taping them up underneath to look like perfect globes at all times. Gravity exists. My only personal complaint about this episode was that there was too much Mean Girls reenactment and not nearly enough Perrin.
Aes Sedai High:
We started out on the little girl sleeping, and I said to my husband “yes, I am going to love this kid. I know nothing about her, but she’s my new favorite.” Then her dad called her Suian and I realized this is the girl you all have been obsessed with seeing. You are all correct, I fully get the hype now. Her dad is a lot like every good dad I’ve ever met, where he sees his kid do something dangerous, and he immediately lectures her but can’t quite resist telling her she’s also Super Impressive. Poor kid. I can’t tell if someone saw her right then, or if they had just suspected her for a while, but it must have made her feel some intense guilt to be a normal kid playing and then come home to her house burned down intentionally. Not sure why her dad couldn’t have gone with her on her journey. I am torn between being mad at him for making her go alone and impressed that he didn’t underestimate her just because she was his precious little baby. But yes, I love her, and love her even more as an adult.
The Aes Sedai lunch table is really heating up. Most of the politics stuff I kind of zoned out for. I have a lot of trouble following it all, but from what I can tell, it is forbidden for Suian to be in a relationship since she’s the queen, and JK Rowling was basically putting the two of them in a situation where they would be forced to either end it or be outed, because she wanted Moiriane out of her hair. Gosh she’s so the worst. Props to the actor who plays her for portraying such an intensely dislikeable character, but still making her three dimensional. Fucking “gold star lesbian” with a secret boyfriend she can’t admit to because she’s head of the Biphobic Misandry Club.
Had to laugh at Lan feeling their connection close for five seconds and immediately coming in like “Hey do you really have to mute our telepathic groupchat to go bang right now when everyone is plotting our deaths? Bros before hos, Moiraine!” And she’s just like “Lan, I haven’t had sex in two years, just do me a solid and babysit for a few hours, jfc.” Then she walks into the secret sex room and Suian tries to scold her but Moiraine is just like “I’m sorry, mommy, I’ve been a bad girl.” NDLRAI (Aes Sedai keysmash) guess I was wrong about Moiraine being asexual, but good for her. The fish-based pet names are further cementing my belief that the blues are the mathletes of this high school. Fucking nerds in love. I now have more context for her and Lan crying last episode. They are intentionally walking into a situation that has been prophesied to result in the death of all non-dragons. And both of them are exactly self-sacrificing enough to not step out when they have the option. Suian knows it too, and their scenes were so heartbreaking. I can’t believe we have a canon same-sex forbidden lovers plotline where the tension has absolutely nothing to do with them both being women. This fucking show means so damn much to me
Did Moiraine and Suian get married when they had their weird Spirit Stick ritual? It did not escape my notice that Suian told her to swear fidelity to the Seat, but Moiraine changed the words and swore fidelity directly to Suian. If they think their relationship is actually a secret, they are showing exactly the level of social awareness I have come to expect from Moiraine, because that was some X rated finger contact.
Village Polycule of Chaos:
Looks like my “the dragon is all 5 of them” theory is coming together after all. I mean, they have shared dreams, they can sense if the other is still alive, they all have nebulous magic powers, it just Makes Sense.
Glad Loial told Moiraine about where Mat and Rand were hidden (presumably) and I had to laugh when she told Nynaeve off for not coming for help sooner. She might be the only one who could get away with talking to Nynaeve like that, and only because they’re both in Worried Mom mode at the moment. This was the most Malcolm Reynolds move Moiraine has made so far. She could have easily just told Rand what she was going to do, but instead she just got annoyed that people weren’t doing the thing she told them to do. Rand being overpowered by Lan seemed a bit unlikely to me, unless he knew deep down that he needed to trust them. I mean, if the boy can bust down ironwood to protect Mat, there’s no way he couldn’t push Lan off him. That shit is dense as fuck. I guess leverage could be at play a bit, but that door was a minimum 5 times heavier than Lan. To me, it seemed more like he knew that whatever Moiraine did to Mat wouldn’t be worse than what he would have to deal with if she didn’t step in. He was just scared. Props to him for thanking her later on, and props to her for telling Rand how pure-hearted Mat actually must have been in order to fight off possession for so long.
This is Rand’s thing. He has very strong opinions, and makes snap judgments, but he’s quick to acknowledge when they were incorrect or unfair. I don’t know how anyone could dislike him. He just wants to protect the people he loves, and he doesn’t understand anything that lies outside that world view. He has an ego, sure, but that is how he can go through so much and not break down. He is able to rush into action without stopping to doubt himself because he is free from the burden of complex thought in the moment. Afterwards, he does take the time to stop and think about everything. Probably Perrin’s influence. He’s a sheltered kid who has only ever known love, safety, support, and community. He dedicated his life to showing that to all his friends. When he got thrust into the seedy underbelly of society, he only became more pure of heart. His default setting is Undying Loyalty, and there is no off switch. He trusts quickly, easily, and forever. He genuinely does not comprehend that anyone else would ever feel differently.
In contrast, Mat has always been in the seedy underbelly of society. He’s widely considered to be the irresponsible one of the group (at least by the rest of them) but I think he’s the most responsible one besides Nynaeve. He’s had a really terrible life, but most of the rest of the group seem entirely unaware of 90% of the struggles he’s faced beyond “Mat is poor.” They see him making self-destructive choices all the time, but he does that because he spends all his energy taking care of others and has none left to make sure he’s okay too. He consciously made a choice a long time ago to sacrifice his own morality and reputation so his sisters could have a shot at a normal life. Perrin and Rand clearly always try to help him, but they don’t seem to understand what he really needs. And he doesn’t know how to explain it to them, because their worlds are so different. Mat never grew up feeling a sense of community. He grew up being seen as the delinquent son of the town boozers, who was tolerated but not accepted, except for his body (RIP to whichever person on the show is responsible for making so many realistic references to this that apparently fly right over most people’s heads, I hope the success of this show means you can now afford therapy). So he loves his friends, but he doesn’t trust them. He can’t ask for help, because he’s never had the experience of being able to count on someone. He feels inherently less valuable than everyone around him, and even his closest friends constantly call him selfish and unreliable.
The show framed it like we were supposed to be shocked that Mat stayed behind, but it was the only choice his character could have made. He has been clear from the start that his priority is his sisters, and that he thinks he’s a weight around the rest of the group’s neck. He doesn’t believe he’s the dragon, so why would he jump through a magic portal to die alongside at least 3 of his best friends and the woman who just saved his life? No, he’s going to try his damndest to get home. Wonder if he might meet up with a certain gleeman who will be able to convince him to get to the eye of the world…perhaps through the power of love? Perhaps by being the first person who Mat has ever been able to count on to show him kindness without judgment, and to follow through on his promises? (No, I don’t think there’s even a passing chance that Thom is actually dead.)
Egwene was just waiting to make that badass bitch entrance. Oh, I happened to get something for you *mic drops fallen sisters’ rings* and btw I totally killed that guy. You’re welcome. I think she was hoping for a bit more praise than she got. She has an unrealistically positive view of the Aes Sedai, contrasting nicely with Nynaeve’s unrealistically negative one. Moiraine has to try to convince them both to dial it back a few notches, without accidentally reinforcing the other one’s beliefs. That is not an easy feat, especially for someone who struggles so much with conversations involving multiple people.
Egwene and Nynaeve had a fantastic dynamic when talking to Suian. Nynaeve thought they were gonna do a solidarity rejection and Egwene kept trying to get her to shut up because she’s focused on her career. This was an interesting break from what 90% of media would do, having Rand try and talk Egwene out of being an Aes Sedai. Instead, he was basically like “Yep, my best girl left me for a big city job but I love and support her through my heartbreak” and Egwene had the “Don’t treat me like a fragile little flower” conflict with Nynaeve. This show has a continued dedication to subverting gendered tropes and I scream every single time it happens. The difference in their views probably has a lot to do with the fact that Egwene chose her path as a Wisdom, while Nynaeve never had an option. She was raised into the life of a Wisdom from the moment she was adopted. I am actually now forming a backstory wherein the old Wisdom realized Egwene had power after that story about her fever, and wanted to bring her on as an apprentice. But Nynaeve fought hard to give Egwene a chance at a normal life, and to not start training her unless she freely chose it as an adult. I could see Nynaeve being frustrated that she worked so hard for the past 10 years to protect Egwene from being forced into a Grand Destiny, only to have her jump at the first chance to throw away her Normal Life.

Since I'll be going back to work in the office in about 6 weeks, I figured I'd write this about the Wheel of Time crew in a corporate setting.
Mat: Always shows up late half dressed. Says there was a ton of traffic he didn't expect. He lives not even 10 minutes away.
Tuon: Goes wearing the most expensive and fanciest outfits even though employees are allowed to wear jeans. No, you cannot sit with her during lunch.
Perrin: Shows up at exactly 9am everyday. Takes the long way to his desk because he wants to avoid Berelain at the coffee machine. Shows everyone what dog is on his flip calendar that day.
Faile: Shows up with Perrin, but purposely walks past the coffee machine to stare daggers at Berelain.
Rand: Seems to never leave the office, or his desk. Tried taking a vacation day once, but ended up coming in anyway.
Egwene: Shows up early everyday with the intention of beating Rand there, though she never does. She starts every email with "I hope this message finds you well", and then proceeds to ruin that person's day.
Nynaeve: Has her day ruined by Egwene's emails. Yells at the computer consistently.
Elayne: Is late everyday with an iced coffee from Starbucks that had nothing to do with the traffic she didn't expect. She leaves all of Egwene's emails unread.
Min: Is one of the best workers in the office. One of the few that can start and complete a task without involving someone else unnecessarily.
Aviendha: Is on time everyday and is a diligent worker. She hates people who spend too much time at the water cooler because they're always in the way.
Moiraine: The boss. Always in meetings that leave her rubbing her temples at the end. Nobody appreciates that getting out early after the Christmas party was actually her idea.
Berelain: Puts off work until someone else asks her about whatever she was supposed to do. Queen of saying "it was in my drafts I thought I sent it". Learns all the office gossip before it even starts.
Birgitte: A good worker, but is usually the first to say that she doesn't have enough time to do everything while glaring at Elayne. Elayne is taking a personal call, oblivious to the glare.
Lan: Goes to work and goes home. He will not attend the Christmas party. Nynaeve and him take a lot of walks to get away for a sec together. No one is fooled.
Thom: Longest tenured employee of the department who always has a story about an old employee that doesn't work there anymore. Everyone loves him, especially Moiriane, who lingers at his desk a lot. Everyone is confused by this.
Galad: Says "circle back" a lot. Quietly interviews for a better job elsewhere.
Gawyn: Is that guy who asks a question at the 5pm meeting. Egwene is the only one who doesn't mind. Once reported Rand to management because Rand was loudly eating carrots at his desk.

I found this video of them in the Ways with the Machin Shin and when Nynaeve saves them (Shout out to Moiriane as well) from episode 7 and I've been watching it on repeat and wanted to share my thoughts
(Credit to Neuva Vida for this wonderful video)
This (the whole episode, really) was great for a few reasons.
Here some are, in no particular order
Perrin is in LOVE WITH EGWENE!?! Extra drama I did not know I needed!!
Speaking of Egwene, why does she think she's a fraud?? I'm a bit more interested in her character arc after that, it adds a bit of intrigue.
Did Loial hear anything? Gosh I hope he stays in it, I like him.
Moiraine, you better not. Good job getting everyone out though, gotta save them for now I guess.
Knowing what I know now after finishing the episode and seeing this scene again, I am no longer making fun of Rand for crying over Egwene. I know what you really going through now and I apologize for doubting you, hun. P.S. I love your mom.
NYNAEVE!! HONEY! I love you and you just keep doing what you doing cause it's great ❤❤
With Lan's "You can't protect her. You'll watch her die." I know it's probably about Moiraine, but what if it's about Nynaeve?? He did yell no when she started walking over there and he seemed pretty focused on her during the scene (and later in the episode 😉) so my hopes are that he was thinking of Nynaeve and that they left names out of it on purpose. Even if it wasn't that's what I'll be thinking from now on.
BONUS
Lan running over, putting his hand on Nynaeve's waist, saying "Come" (I think that's what he says?) and guiding her out instead of Moiraine??
Perfection👌
