Fic: A River in Egypt, by @nenya85 Fandom: Yugioh!
[kaiba voice] MIRU KA II! ENDPAPERS FROM JOANN'S!! WAHAHA!!
Nenya is an icon in Yugioh fandom - and an adored friend <3 It was time she got to hold a hard copy of all her hard work in her hands. Working on these books over the past few weeks has brought me insane joy, and I'm so proud of how these turned out - they are #5 and #6 in my current book tally, and I learned a pile while working on them.
The covers are silk moire in black, gold, and a sandy white, while the blue is Japanese book cloth. The body of this text is set in 10.5 point Perpetua font, with accents in Skandal and Aquifer.
Some additional details below the cut:
Every chapter in this fic starts with a little meditation/vignette on the five stages of grief...
Tumblr media
So I translated each of the five stages into their hieroglyphic equivalents (using either direct translation or good-enough approximations - I think the word I used for "bargaining" actually means "to exchange or trade.")
Tumblr media
I also managed to split the fic exactly in half, into two volumes of 17 chapters each. Volume I is 216 pages; Volume II is 208 pages. In other words, the volumes are both balanced in their chapter count and almost identical in their widths, a testament to Nenya's skill and consistency as a writer.

Random Bionicle Headcanon
The Kanohi masks that the Toa Mata wear always seemed a bit eclectic to me. Most of them seemed to be rather weird and seemingly incredibly situational, which gets even weirder when you consider that the Toa Mata were designed as the spec ops team
And now, suddenly, in the throes of post Factorio sleepiness, I wonder. What if the masks were originally picked by the Toa Mata not out of any practical concerns, but entirely due to their personality quirks?
Let's take a look at some potential rationales for those choices, purely from my view.
Toa Tahu, the Hau, the mask of protection. On one hand, it is the mask in Bionicle lore, the symbol of Mata Nui himself. Perhaps Toa Tahu was particularly religious back before the amnesia, and chose the mask as a sort of icon?
Alternatively, he was always a bit afraid of getting hurt, and by the time he got over that fear, the mask already became part of his fighting style.
Toa Kopaka, the Akaku, the mask of X-Ray vision. Part of me wants to say that he picked it entirely in order to always know whether there was someone in another room so that he may be able to avoid unnecessary social interactions. Another part of me wonders if he may have been interested in machinery, which would explain why his mask of choice also came with several additional lenses for better zoom. He must have been annoyed when he lost some of them after going Nuva.
Toa Gali, the Kaukau, the mask of water breathing. The potential reason for that one is rather obvious. Gali simply always loved to swim, and so picked out an incredibly situational mask just to be able to do that more and better.
Toa Pohatu, the Kakama, the mask of speed. I'd assume that the reason for that one is equally as simple. He just likes to go fast, but sucks at piloting.
Toa Onua, the Pakari, the mask of strength. That one is equally as straightforward, but from the opposite direction. He got trapped in one too many cave ins and so chose a mask that would let h get out 9f them easily.
Toa Lewa, the Miru, the mask of levitation. My first thought was that he mostly picked it out as a joke to be able to literally float away during conversations, but then discovered that it actually works.
Any other thoughts? It's always possible that the masks have also just been assigned to them, but honestly, the idea that they picked them themselves, not for combat utility but due to their personal interests, seems rather intriguing to me.

you've been in the voca scene a really long while, so do you have any songs from when you first got into it that are still bangers despite your taste changing over time?
yeah!!! although for the most part what i listened to when i got into it were the popular songs at the time. or at least semi-well known.
kemu's pandora voxx songs are still up there on my fave songs list especially rokuchounen, reincarnation, and ikasama life game.
i also still have a special place in my heart for the shuuen no shiori project songs despite not being active in the fandom the past few years. sarumane isu tori game is literally how i came up with my url. d-ne my beloved. theres a part in the ia ver of the song towards the end that always sounded similar to when u blow into a straw i always thought that was neat. arikitari heroes is still my most listened to song in my life. song i listened to for like a month straight if not more (+ multiple weeks on & off. for months.) Back In The Day & still have trouble turning off if i put it on.
i also adore old mafumafu songs adagaeshi syndrome was my first & still goes hard & kakushigoto & yuugure semi nikki are still songs i listen to frequently. kuusou sekai to omocha no shinzou was also something i latched onto heavily. also as the resident aoki lapis fan im required to tell u mafu owns her & has used her exactly Once in an album only song toumei palette which thank u for reminding me i think i'll go listen to that now
now the one producer i miss SOOO much who also deleted most of their works is sekaikeiP or #n/a. their songs are. loud. to say the least u will want to turn ur volume down for all but one of them but i HIGHLY recommend sekaikei shoujo wa dennou sekai wo oyogu which is my second fave song of theirs so im super glad its still up. it gets stuck in my head frequently. there was no translation for this when i found it so i tried doing it myself & it went poorly so its a really cool feeling to go from completely not understanding to being able to understand most of it without double checking anything. but i digress. also highly recommend muhyoujou shoujo to yume miru kusuri. again volume warning. solid song tho & this one does have a translation if i remember right. the last one no longer has an official upload anywhere HOWEVER its my favorite of all their songs so i'm breaking my own rules & linking a reupload here. shounen A to mousou shoujo. this one has a normal volume btw its the one thats not super loud. absolutely devastated they didnt keep this up it was one of their more popular songs too. i drew fanart for it & they found it & followed me bc of it. good times. this producer's been missing since 2015 but i still think of them fondly.
debated leaving him off bc of the drama around szm but i. legitimately have no clue if new fans know szm's songs. the idol series of songs are iconic of course. undead enemy as well. personally i also really liked jinrui gofun mae kasetsu. there was a period of time i drew a lot of the girl in the video.
as for more one off songs i still go back to
clean tear's suki ni natteshimatta... ayatsuriningyou. what can i say i love trance songs & aoki lapis.
ken's yokkyuu fuman march.
ych's yotei chouwa quest. also ych's poker face but everyone knows poker face i want people to know this one too.
takamatt's dragon rising.
seleP's ref-rain. actually im a seleP fan in general but this has pretty solidly been my fave the whole time. they do mostly yandere theme songs. which if ur a naisho no pierce fan ur used to anyway. but seleP's more dance/trance in genre.
im sorry this is such a long post ive listened to nearly exclusively vocalo songs since 2013 i know. so many

 ◔ ┈ LOADING … TRAINEE PROFILE INITIATED !
PARK MIRU ( READ MORE HERE )
AGE 23 ( 6 JUNE 1999 )
TRAINED FOR 2 YEARS 7 MONTHS ( SIGNED JULY 2020 )
INTRODUCTION VIDEO FOUND … PRESS PLAY ?
miru never really expected himself to end up at a place like legacy entertainment. there were too many rules, too much structure, and it was highly professional. not that any of that was bad but it was just a different outcome than miru ever expected for himself. the longer he lingers here the more it feels like he's finally found a place for himself, one that is legitimate and could last a long time, if he's lucky.
and of course, modeling isn't necessarily a forever profession. even the likes of naomi campbell is lost among the newer generations, those who don't appreciate pop culture or fashion icons at least, but if he can make a name for himself, a legacy (no pun intended), then miru would consider himself satisfied. he's not asking to live that long anyways.
first he should be able to walk across a runway, give face whenever a camera is near, and remain stoic and balanced, even in the ugliest outfits. "hiya," miru says. "i'm park miru and i'm from austin, texas. today, i'll show you an easy way to walk confidently like a model, even if you're not on a runway." miru walks to the back of the room and turns on his heel. "first you want to look like you don't care about anything. pretend like you're the only one in the room," he says. "if you have a jacket, throw it over your shoulder, effortlessly."
he takes his pink cardigan and throws it so it hangs off his shoulder. "then you wanna walk as if you're late to the bus," miru explains. "pretty fast but never a run." he begins, putting one foot in front of the other and giving a deadpanned look that doesn't really have any focus or direction but forward. "and that's it!" he says, breaking his model character and giving a smile. "now you can walk anywhere as if it's a runway and like there are millions of cameras flashing."
INTERESTED ? REACH OUT TO THE TRAINEE !

Art in Hong Kong
Tumblr media
This summer, wherever you are in the world, bask in the warm glow of Hong Kong's dazzling arts and culture scene. The Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) is launching a 'Arts in Hong Kong' campaign to showcase the city's extraordinary and enduring appeal as an arts and cultural hub to a global audience, based on the staging of international art and cultural events. The campaign aims to raise Hong Kong's international profile by providing in-depth community arts and cultural tours, as well as interactive art tech experiences, to encourage both locals and visitors to rediscover the city from a cultural standpoint. West Kowloon Neighbourhood The West Kowloon neighbourhood, located on the Kowloon peninsula, embodies the rich offerings of traditional local culture and world-class arts. Jordan and Yau Ma Tei are home to a diverse range of cutting-edge arts, traditional craftsmanship, and the fusion of such traditions and innovations - the ideal showcase of local talent's never-ending creativity. The West Kowloon Cultural District (WKCD) on the Victoria Harbour waterfront is home to one of the world's largest and most ambitious cultural projects. M+ and Hong Kong Palace Museums are the most recent additions to the city's world-class offerings of local and international arts. World-Class Arts Museums(M+) M+ is Asia's first global museum of contemporary visual culture and one of the world's largest museums of modern and contemporary visual culture. It opened in November and features approximately 1,500 works drawn from the M+ Collections in a 17,000 square metre exhibition space that spans 33 exhibition halls and other display spaces throughout the museum. With its 65-meter M+ Facade visible from Hong Kong Island, the M+ building is one of Hong Kong's most iconic landmarks and the city's newest must-see attraction. Hong Kong Palace Museum The Hong Kong Palace Museum aspires to be one of the world's leading cultural institutions dedicated to the study and appreciation of Chinese art and culture, while also promoting global civilisational dialogue through international partnerships. It will present the finest objects from the Palace Museum and other important cultural institutions around the world, embracing new curatorial approaches and offering a Hong Kong perspective and a global vision. Arts & Culture in the Neighbourhood (Tung Nam Lou) Tung Nam Lou is a heritage building in Yau Ma Tei that has been converted into a boutique art hotel. It was once a neighbourhood seafood restaurant before becoming an office building and, finally, a hotel that promotes arts and culture. Visitors' senses are stimulated in unexpected ways by the avant-garde experiential art. Everyone can take an active role in feeling and creating art on their own by better understanding the local creative minds. Sindart Sindart, a store that sells traditional embroidered shoes since 1958, has given traditional Chinese footwear new life. Miru Wong, the third-generation owner, inherited her grandfather's delicate embroidery skills and continues to add new twists to these silk-brocade slippers. Non-traditional motifs and patterns, as well as new footwear such as flats and heels on top of traditional slippers, are a hit with the younger generation. Biu Kee Mahjong Uncle King of Biu Kee Mahjong is one of the few masters in Hong Kong who still hand-carve mahjong tiles. Mahjong is a deeply rooted Chinese tradition that is traditionally played at family gatherings and during important festivals such as Chinese New Year. Uncle King has been a true master of the craft for over 5 decades, deftly etching symbols and numbers onto the smooth faces of the bare tiles before bringing them to life with colours. He also creates personalised tiles with anything from names to cartoon characters. Read the full article
