It's been a wild ride!
This week I'll start posting the final part of Be Still My Soul, my Good Omens Human AU that's set in Finnish history. It has been my first longfic, a trilogy with over 150k words combined. It's my baby, it has taught me so much, and brought me so many friends in the fandom. In the spring 2018 I participated in a live action roleplay series about the Finnish civil war, and dove deep into the research hell while preparing my character. I felt I wanted to write a story set to that period, and started plotting a Sherlock AU (my main fandom at the time). It didn’t quite fit, so I forgot about it for a while.
In 2020 I read a book called Good Omens, and realised there is a TV series. I fell head-first into fandom hell.
In summer 2021 I remembered the old story idea, and realised Aziraphale and Crowley fit to the narrative of opposite sides perfectly. During one long car drive I plotted the first outline for this story (mostly what would later become part 3).
September 2021 I started writing. I decided to call Azirafel’s horse Milto, in the memory of a horse I knew in real life, who had just died.
January 2022 I asked HKBlack to beta for me. I had the first story arc almost done (we didn’t call it a trilogy at that point), and told her the whole story would be 15 chapters long. Now, 32 chapters later, she will tease me about it forever. We become friends on the way! My writing was super clumsy back then, and she did a lot of work teaching me better English!
May 2022 I started posting the first part, and finished by Midsummer.
October 2022 I started posting part 2 and finished by Christmas. That was the part that exploded the most, it was supposed to be five chapters long, and ended up being 14 because I severely miscalculated how much more historical context I needed to write in for an audience that isn’t Finnish.
In July 2023 (this week!!) I’ll start posting this final part—the story that I originally outlined on a piece of paper in a car two years ago.
It feels unreal. Thank you for following my journey 🧡

What is your favourite berry?
Hmm, this is a cruel question! 🤔I love so many berries, and the answer really depends on my mood...
At the moment, though, I could really go for a bowl of fresh-picked raspberries.

Hiya! I hope you have a good day! I'd love to hear your answers on 28 ans 3 on ao3 wrapped.
3. What work are you most proud of (regardless of kudos/hits)?
I think I gotta say Running Out of Holy Places (mind the tags) for this one. It took me two years to write bc angst is not my thing. I poured a lot of dark emotions/fears into that one and ultimately I think it accomplished what I was looking for. I was scared to post it bc it's such a messy, unhappy, complicated story. But I'm proud I finally finished it and got past the fear of sharing it. Sometimes you just gotta use fiction to process the difficult things.
28. Favorite work you wrote this year?
Ahhh favorites are so hard to pick! I'm going with Small Cock Appreciation Society! It was so much fun to give Aziraphale a small penis and have Crowley genuinely love it, and having the two of them fit each other perfectly. I also really loved writing Crowley as trans and nonbinary, and writing my love for trans bodies into that story. It's a really happy smutfic, and that's definitely one of my favorite things to write: sex that's sweet, silly, and full of body worship.

Collaborative Activities
a Good Omens fanfic.
coworkers human AU
corporate retreat/team building
mildly creepy, (might give you the heebee jeebees)
smutty and plotty (waiter, there's plot in my smut)
sex pollen
art by @mirjam-writes
Event: Spring Is Here! High Pollen Count!
Category: M/M | Fandom: Good Omens | Ship: Aziraphale/Crowley Rating: Explicit | Chapters: 1/1 | Words: 12,776 | Author: scullyphile
Summary:
While on a corporate retreat, estranged co-workers Aziraphale and Crowley get teamed up together. They encounter something on their hike, something that brings a buried desire to the surface and transforms it into an unquenchable lust.
In that moment, Aziraphale knew his destiny. He was destined for a day of tiresome bickering with a devastatingly handsome and soul-crushingly insufferable man. If he walked out now, he could convince the young executive assistant in charge of the phones to give him his. She seemed to like him, maybe had the littlest crush on him. Once he had his phone, he would email his resignation to Gabriel and polish his resume on the plane home to the city.
“Fell!”
Aziraphale did his best to smile, pushed away thoughts of fleeing his godforsaken job for good. A grown man, he was a grown man who could make it through one long weekend of asinine activities.

My AO3 Wrapped 2022
I'm a bit late with this, but here we go.
Stories: 15 (2021: 6)
Kudos: 1,248 (2021: 1,434)
Comment Threads: 289 (2021: 115)
Bookmarks: 240 (2021: 336)
Subscriptions: 60 (2021: 33)
Word Count: 123,831 (2021: 58,673)
Hits: 7,863 (2021: 10,028)
My most used tags:
Established Relationship, Alternate Universe - Human, First Kiss, Crowley Loves Aziraphale (Good Omens), Aziraphale Loves Crowley (Good Omens), South Downs Cottage (Good Omens).
This is funny because some years ago I didn't even read Established Relationship fics, and now? My favourite tag I write, but I also read them a lot. Aziraphale and Crowley made an existing relationship interesting, when usually that trope is sprinkled with often unnecessary drama.
What did I write?
I wrote 15 stories. 12 of them were part of zines, or other fandom events, and three were "just" for me. Fics just for me
I posted two parts of Be Still my Soul trilogy. This is my big project and baby, an AU set in Finnish history and civil war. It has also it's own blog, @be-still-my-soul-fanfic where I have written thousands and thousands of words about historical extra notes. The third part will be posted this year.
My first story from the last year was also Finland-themed: Be My Forever is canon compliant story where Aziraphale and Crowley visit a special place Finland. It's soft and sweet!
These three weren't my only Finland themed stories, since also one of my Zine stories (Purple) has a reference to Finland. Oops.
Zines
Last year I set up a goal to be accepted in one zine, and I got into two! I Like Pears (@ilikepearszine) and Our Side: Queer Enough (@oursidezines). The first one was about appreciating foods, and has recipes too! My entry was Purple, and it will teach you the difference between Blueberries and Bilberries. For Queer Enough, I wrote Assumption Is The Mother Of All Fuck-ups, and it's about Anathema struggling with her invisible queerness, as she's in a straight-passing relationship. It was a very personal piece for me.
Fandom Tumps Hate auction
I wrote two fics for FTH auction last year! The prompts I got from the bidders were pretty similar, a getting together AU story in a setting I know well. Two very different stories were born!
!False (It's Funny Because I Know It's true) is an AU about a software company. This story was incredibly fun to write (and I outlined it with my husband) and based on stats it has been the most well liked of all of my stories this year. One of my best ever, actually. It's rated E.
Crazy Little Thing Called Love is an AU about LARP players, and the feelings you catch in-character. This was very ambitious topic, with all the feelings in- and out of character mixing up. I hope I could make it justice! It is very soft and sweet, and rated T.
PS. I'm on that auction again this year, offering one story!
Round Robin
I participated @do-it-with-style-events Discord Server's Round Robin event. It was a really fun exercise where groups of four people wrote four stories in sections: everyone got to start a story, and all the others took turns continuing it with 500-700 words. We weren't allowed to discuss where the story should go, so it was a surprise for all of us. We wrote three lovely stories which have now all been posted: More Than Words (E), Only Sunday Footy (E), Eros (E), Rebels (T). Thank you @elfontheshelves @dashicra and @ashfae for the lovely collaboration!
Guess The Author
I participated Soft Omens Snuggle House server's Guess The Author events four times (it happens monthly). All of my entries were about 500 words, G-rated humorous established relationship shenanigans. And yet people rarely guessed me right! These stories were Gravity (some swordplay), Staging It (planning a heist), Ghost Walk (halloween story) and Christmas Traditions (exactly what it says on the tin) .
How was the year?
I think I improved a lot during the year. If you read Be My Forever and compare it to The Crazy Thing Called Love, or !False (It's Funny Because I Know It's true), I think my English has gotten smoother and flow better.
I also wrote a lot more than I expected, and interacted with the fandom a lot. I think It was a good year. For the next one I imagine I'll finish Be Still, write something kinkier, and at least one rare pair story. And something about S2 when that arrives! And one FTH entry as well.

Hi! I hope you are doing well! I decided to spend my evening like Crowley, asking an important question from fellow GO writers! What's your current favourite story you yourself have written? Tell me why you like it!
Oh my gosh that's such a lovely ask... as a writer I'm sure you know just how shy we can get when it comes to talking about our writing in a positive way. But since you've given me permission to brag...
I'm very fond of all of my long fics, they're the works that take the most amount of time and have a tendency to nest in your mind even long after completion - but there is one short fic I wrote that has the same effect despite the writing (and posting) of it being quite a fast process:
First Thing In The Morning is a 5 chapter AU in which I combined some favourite and very comfortable story tropes (authors, getting back together, British politics) with some new to me writing techniques, namely dual POV and dual timeline.
I like how I wrote Crowley and Aziraphale in this fic, and how their characters change in the three decades between the two timelines - Crowley turning from a cocky teen king of chaos to a sensible but somewhat insecure adult, and Aziraphale who is standoffish and anxious as a boy, quite different to his confidence in the later timeline.
Adapting the prose to the two POVs and timelines was a challenge I loved. Thinking about what to reveal where, and playing with perspective like that. So much fun.
I also like how this fic is plotted. I always enjoy a good reveal or plot twist, and sprinkling in details and foreshadowing and hints in earlier chapters, and I think I managed to do that quite well here. There's lots for the discerning reader to pick up on.
The dual settings of modern day London and a 1990s secondary school were fun to write and I like to think I did them both justice in such a short story. As always, there is a distinctive political theme that snuck into this fic as soon as I realised part of if would be set at a school thirty years ago.
Still, I like to think that despite the heavier notes, this is overall a warm, heartfelt, and positive story. It strikes a good balance.
And lastly, this fic has an entirely gratuitous and extended smut scene just for a bit of spice. Quite pleased with that one.
Thank you so much, Mirjam, for this ask and the opportunity to go on about my writing ❤️

Hi, and happy Yuletide, holidays and/or the end of the year! I'm once again wandering from askbox to askbox, asking questions from my fellow Good Omens fanfic writers.
How was your writing year? What's the favourite story you wrote? Yes, YOUR favourite of YOUR work! Feel free to gush about your creations, I'm looking forward to hearing all about it!
I wish you all the comments and kudos, and an exceptional new year! 🧡 Mirjam
Omgosh what a fun thing to do with other writers! I love this!!!
My favorite thing was probably my first fic I wrote after my SHIP BECAME CANON 😍😭
Bee and Gabe return to Edinburgh to try sleeping, which leads to other things *eyebrow wiggle*
I never pictured Bee and Gabe as soft, tender, and good communicators but I'm not mad at it! Shelzebub is SO FREAKING CUTE and I think my adoration for them is evident in how I wrote Gabe.
A first time fic for both of them (I know! Virgin Bee, who would've thought!)
This fic has a soft spot in my heart!!!
