Ok so i've got something that yall would probably hate me for. But ive been holding this simmering pot of angst for a while and the first thing i was taught is to share, so suffer with me.

New ROTTMNT AU:

Rather than being the only one out of his brothers to survive in the no-good-very-bad-horrible future, Leo is the only brother who dies.

Okay okay okay.

But i personally like to think that after the krang come out everything goes to shit in the bad timeline everyone goes oh fuck and start teaming up right? Human yokai cryptids mutants– none of that matters as long as you got eachothers back.

And after the initial stumbles the brothers start their active participation in the resistance.

Heres the thing.

Leo is genuinly terrifying at coming up with a plan. Kid went toe to toe with motherfucking Big Mama and came out victorious. Big Mama, as if the most terrifying yokai crime boss Big Mama. Kid came out with a smile. Its safe to say his strategies were incredibly effective and it kinda pissed off a couple of people.

Military dude 1: I can't believe i'm following a plan made by a 16 yo mutanat turtle.

Military dude 2: Your just upset the kid called out all the flaws your plan had in less than 2 seconds flat.

But the one pissed off the most were the krang. This tiny insignificant insect was able to somehow keep the resistance 3 steps ahead. So naturally, they went to take him down first.

It took a while but eventually they managed to isolate Leo. His brothers were fighting up a storm but the krang got too much and so they had to leave. Without Leo.

About a week later which involved a lot of crying and screaming, the krang brodacast a live footage of torturing Leo (my boi) before krangyfying (did i spell that right) him.

And now the krang have leo on their side. Leo, who knows everything there is to know abt the resistance (hes a gossipy bitch but thats only cuz its important to have the intel) so they are in deep shit now.

And he was a zombie for a while guys. Fighting against him always had people dying and his fam having a mental breakdown.

Eventually they take him down, but at what cost. (One of the brothers killed him. cuz angst. And now the question is who is the MOST angst) Also, Leo is the first person to die in the resistance. (Ouch)

Casey rools up and has no fucking clue who Leo is (ouch) or why his mom wanted him to take up the role as Casey's dad (HC: Cass took one look at tge record of Leo's victories against his brothers in the lair games, strategy skills and medical knowledge; and declared that he would be Casey jr.'s father. Leo was incredibly touched)

But for some reason. For soME FUCKING REASON. Kid is so much like Leo its scary. His family is near tears everytime they see him act like that. That one time he made a shitty pun and Donnie started crying.

Well its probably due to the blue imaginary friend he has that he calls Bluey. Yes we're going towards that direction. His everything comes from being influenced by the cool older brother figure he has as an imaginary friend. (Cuz of ✨Mystic Shenanigans✨ Bluey is still stuck here. Mikey is the only one who can also see him. But he cant. Cuz hes depressed)

Also without Mr. A-Ninja's-Greatest-Weapon-Is-Hope I feel like shit gets really depressing in the resistance. Everyones sad. Baby casey is sad to see everyone sad. So he asks Bluey's help and picks up his general style of humor. Angst shenanigans.

And. AND. AND. During the whole peepaws time travel back after the movie montage (I am a aimple woman w/ simple need) these depressed hunks see this tiny version of their blue brother still covered in bandages and not fully healed from the krangvasion, and their immediete reaction? Protecc.

Leo is confused abt a lot of things. The future version of his brothers that got spat out of nowhere. Casey and how that worked w/ their Casey. The blue projection of HIS angsty future self (who is pretty cool btw). PTSD. You know, the works. At this point my guy is just vibing, and honestly? The story picks up a pretty chill pace from there. Its all abt healing now baby.

So thats the rough outline of the au. And it might sound like a fucking add but heres more abt this silly little idea that came from my silly little head. -> You'll (Never) Never Be Alone

The Comic starts here

The Basics of the AU:

Since this is a separated!au, only mikey stayed with splinter here. The rest of the teetlez got lost sadly-

Leo- Leo ended up in the Hidden City somehow, but since he didn't really have any adults to go to, he pretty much raised himself on the streets.

He found a cloaking brooch once and made a human friend who I'm gonna call Mell for now. However, trusting her was a mistake as when he showed her that he was a turtle she kinda broke his cloaking brooch in front of the rest of the human kids and ~trauma~!(This also affects his relationship with April later on, and it takes him a lot longer to trust her than the others. Surprisingly this AU actually came about with the idea of Leo having a human friend lol.)

At 8, Hueso took pity on him and allowed him to start working, and at 10 he got himself a small apartment in a really sketchy part of town(Hueso did not know he was alone, only that he was homeless. The foster care system in the Hidden City needs work, so he didn't turn Leo in for that reason as well. He would've taken Leo in but Leo always escaped when he tried to offer.)

He met Usagi, his best friend(and crush but shhh) at 13 while working at Hueso's, and he starts to get over his trust issues yay!

The brothers find him when Leo's 14 at Hueso's!

Man that was longer than expected, aNYWAYS-

Donnie- He was raised by Big Mama in the Hotel lol. One of her workers found him in the sewers and Big Mama happened to be attached to that worker. Unfortunately he died so Big Mama took Donnie in but...she had no idea how to raise him so she pretty much neglected him til he was like 8. The tipping point was because Donnie got kidnapped so uh giving the bois more trauma yay :)

He meets Raph and Mikey when he's 11 and sneaks out to the surface and they bump into each other. Chaos occurs lol

Mikey- Splinter managed to keep him! After Splints lost the other turtles though, he panicked and confronted Draxum in the belief that it was his fault and he stole them back. The two started arguing really loud and Mikey started crying, so Splinter stopped yelling and tried to shush him. Drax is soft inside really so he and Splints become amicable as Mikey grows up. Splints teaches Mikey ninjocity, while Drax helps him keep his ninpo in check. Drax and Splints eventually get unofficially married lol.

Raph- Raph survived on the human streets until he was like 4 somehow, and then found the lair around 4 and a half I'd say? He becomes Mikey's imaginary friend for like a week until Draxum finds out. Him and Mikey are raised together after that :) He's super protective of Mikey once he learns about the twins being missing and even before.

April- Donnie met her while sneaking up to the surface at like 7 years old(he was a dumb little kid who thought he was invincible ok don't blame him lol). Big Mama was wary of her at first but soon adored her and trusted her(more than Donnie but don't let him know that)

Well alright then, let's do a tmnt 2012 swap au.

Oh ho ho, swap au where shredder raised the turtles in the sewers instead.

Ok so, saki was kind of a dick. he was jealous of yoshi, who was next in line as leader. Saki fell in love with Tang-shen who was engaged to yoshi at the time.

Saki confessed his feelings for Tang-shen days before hers and Yoshi's wedding, and when she rejected him, he tried to... Force his love onto her. Yoshi stopped him, and kicked him out of the clan for his treachery and disgusting actions.

Bitter and angry, he fled to NY to rebuild an old clan, one that had been destroyed decades ago, the foot clan.

He was close to achieving his goal, but the universe had other plans for him. He bumped into the kraang one day, who were carrying a canister of mutagen, and 4 baby turtles.

The kraang and saki got into a fight for whatever reason, and the turtles fell alongside the canister and they mutated, as did saki.

Saki and the turtles fell into the sewers I guess. Saki took the turtles, because he realized that they could be useful.

He was by no means a good father, however he was a good teacher. He managed to teach them lots of fighting styles, and how to wield many different weapons ect.

Anyway so saki changed his name to shredder, he felt like it made him seem more powerful.

He was an abusive father, and he showed clear favoritism towards Leo. Donnie is definitely his least favorite, simply because he follows that rule all supervillains have, called "having no damn respect for the scientists."

He likes Leo for obvious reasons, 1. It's the law. 2. Leo's a suck up. 3. He actually puts in a lot of effort to learn things. 4. He's Leo, it's kind of the rule.

His second favorite is Raph, because Raph is 1. Strong. 2. Angry.

Mikey Is his second least favorite, no he doesn't really like him because 1. He's Mikey. 2. ADHD traits. 3. Stupid. Shredder doesn't really care about his existence, he's kind of there, another soldier amongst his imaginary army.

Donnie is his least favorite because 1. Villain rule. 2. He's cheeky and annoying. 3. Respectless.

Anyway so, yoshi ends up in NY for a family vacation, with Tang-shen, Miwa and a couple hamato ninjas that are close friends.

The turtles are raised in the sewers with shredder, being told story's of the monstrous hamato yoshi, and how he stole Tang-shen from shredder. They grow up believing that their one purpose in life is to end yoshi, and to return Tang-shen to her true love, the shredder.

Yessss!!!! I've been looking for someone to info dump to!!!! Alright, so, I made a post previously about the designs for my snake family but is I need to I can post it again.

Basically, in this au Draxum had to do some experiments before Splinter to make sure that he got the formula right. That's where the snake family comes in, Artemis was actually mutated BEFORE Splinter, along with the next oldest. After Splinter blows up the lab, she manages to escape with the other snake children and basically takes it on herself to raise them.

Fast forward a few years and Draxum is still trying to perfect the mutagen, so he's still mutating. Hence, Artemis stumbles open two new kids (also snakes) and adopts them. One of them is a green tree snake, and while wondering the sewers manages to find (you guessed it) Mikey! They become friends, and both family's think that the other friend is a imaginary friend or something.

Fast forward a few years, Mikey and the snake loose touch. Then, one day, they boys happen to see them while out on patrol. Mikey remembers the snake, and basically goes up to them and says "you're my fren now, we're having soft tacos later!" And Artemis takes a look at these frazzled, mostly naked, tired looking children and adopts them.

This all takes place just before the first season.

Was it wrong to stay alone? To stay in your own little world, away from people, away from problems, cutting yourself off from the world, and keeping your life a secret, keeping your problems a secret. You didn't mind it. You didn't mind being quiet, being unnoticed. Life didn't go your way, and that was ok. You lived with it.

You liked the quiet life. Going to class, learning about the universe, minding your business, not bothering anyone and nobody bothered you. Maybe one day, you'd leave the planet. You'd find somewhere else, find some real friends, forget about the life you'd be leaving behind. It was a nice thought. Who would've thought one project, one partner, one boy would change your life, would open your heart again.

You had heard a kid was joining your class. He wasn't new, but his schedule changed. "Well, Mr. Sano, late on your first day, are we?" your professor scolds. The boy with dark blonde hair walked in with an embarrassed smile. "Sorry, got a little held up," he says. "Take an empty seat, Manjiro," your professor says, motioning to the class.

The boy looks around for a seat, and you watch as the other kids in the class move their bags to cover any empty seats. You roll your eyes, "You can sit here. Since everyone else wants to be lame," you say. He smiles and walks toward you, sitting in the seat. You bring your attention back to the book in your hand, not paying him any more attention.

"Thanks for the seat!" he speaks from next to you, pulling your attention back to him. "Late on your first day to this class. Great first impression," you say, not turning your head from the page. He laughs, detecting the teasing tone. "Yeah. My sibling likes to act stupid and not get out of bed. Got a little sidetracked," he says, "I'm Manjiro, by the way. But you can call me Mikey," he smiles. "I'm Y/n," you respond.

Before either of you can say anything else, class starts. Your professor starts his lesson, talking about the environment and things about certain planets. You zone out after about ten minutes. Near the end of class, he starts talking about a project, saying that you'll have two weeks to complete it, and you have to partner with whoever sits next to you. "Looks like we're stuck together the next two weeks," Mikey chirps from beside you. You turn to him, giving him a slight smile and nodding.

You and Mikey talk about the project. You agree to get supplies after school and then work at his house. After class, you continue with your day. Later, between classes, while you eat lunch, you sit at a table, alone, as usual. You continue to read, minding your business. Mikey's walking and spotted you, sitting alone, reading, and eating your lunch. He smiles and walks toward your table. "This seat taken?" he asks, pulling your attention. "Yes. By imaginary friends 1, 2, and 3." You snicker, looking up from your book momentarily. What's with this guy? Why was he so interested in you? You wanted to be alone, to stay alone, not bothering in his life.

He laughs and sits down. "This supposed to be a friendly gesture or something?" you ask flatly. "Maybe. Figure it's worth knowing my partner a little more. Make the experience more fun," he smiles. "Fair enough, I guess," you say. "Well, I don't know anything about you enlighten me," he says. You think for a moment. What's there to say? Well, there's a lot to say...but what could you say that won't scare him off? Maybe you should scare him off. Not like he's going to stick around a while anyway.

"You first," you say, setting down your book to look at him. "Well, I'd like to leave off this rock someday. My older brother is teaching me to pilot. My parents dropped us off here but never came again to get us. It was around when my brother was 13, and my younger sister was turning 1." He said it like it was nothing like he almost didn't care. It was interesting tho. You wonder how he was when it all happened. If he remembers much. If he misses them.

"I have an older sibling too," you say quietly, "A sister. And a twin brother." Mikey smiles. He opens his mouth to say something else, but then another boy walks up, setting his lunch down and sitting next to Mikey. "You gonna introduce me, man?" he asks, elbowing him in the side playfully. "This is Y/n. She's my partner for that class project," he turns to you, "Y/n this is my stupid friend, Draken." He laughs. "Hi," you say shyly. "So what had you been saying? About your family?" Mikey asks, turning his attention back to you. "Nothing. Just that my family's kinda crazy, I guess," you say, laughing slightly. "Just wait till you meet Shinichiro and Emma," Draken laughs. Mikey rolls his eyes. "Who's that? Your siblings, I'm guessing?" you ask. "Yeah, Shinichiro is my brother and Emma my sister," he says.

You smile at what he says. They sound fun. They sound like it would be fun to be around. You think about your siblings and the fun types you had. You wish it could still be like that. You wish you weren't so caught up in your own head that you could have fun, laugh, make friends, not feel the constant burden of the past. That past you wanted to forget about, but you couldn't, no matter what.

"My older sister's name is Kori, and my brother is Yuki," you say. Draken raises his eyebrow, "Older sister, you say?" he says playfully, leaning in further to the table. You roll your eyes and laugh. "What're your siblings like?" Mikey asks. "She's about the same height as me. She's a little mean, but she's my sister, so that's not a surprise," you smile at the table thinking about it, "My brother Yuki and I are twins, and you can tell. We're basically the same person." Mikey smiles and listens as you talk.

He asks you a few more questions, a little about your parents, some about your life, you didn't tell him much. Soon, it was time for you all to go to the rest of your classes, so you said your goodbyes and parted ways. It was cool talking to Mikey, you got comfortable, but it doesn't change anything. You couldn't get close to him. Your mind wouldn't let you. You didn't know why, but you just couldn't, not after what happened, not after how you felt. It was too much. He seemed fun, but you couldn't stop from missing everything, from thinking about the past, nobody has made you feel better, feel whole again, feel happy again.

After school, you and Mikey agree to work on the project at his home, stopping at the market for supplies. "So, tell me more about your family," Mikey asks as you walk around the market, picking up things to check off your list. "Nothing much to tell. You said you had a brother and sister? What are they like?" You deflect the question back, not having an answer, not wanting him to ask more questions. "Well, my older brother, Shinichiro, has been like the parental figure since our parents haven't been around. He's a bounty hunter. We have to get food on the table somehow," he shrugs, "He has a hard time trusting people, but after you get to know him, he's nice."

You can tell Mikey loves his family. The way he smiles as he speaks of his brother. You know that feeling, loving someone so much, your heartwarming as you talk about the person, it breaks your heart when you think about it, but you push it away, keeping the smile on your face as he speaks. "My little sister Emma, she finds friends with anyone. She's nothing like Shinichiro and me. We've taken care of her since she was a baby. I love her, even though she can be a real pain." He ends with a laugh. Smiling as he thinks about his siblings, no doubt a memory going through his mind of them.

After you have everything you need, you head to his home. It wasn't far from the market. Only a half click away. Soon, you walk up to the house, Mikey typing in the code and sliding open the door. When you step inside, almost right away, you hear little feet running through the home, coming your way. A little girl emerges from the corner. "Mikey!" She shouts, jumping into his arms for a big hug. "Welcome back!" She jumps down, a big smile on her face as she smiles up at him with bright eyes. "Hey, Emma. This' my friend, Y/n," he motions to you behind him. "Hi," you say sweetly. "Hi! What are you guys doing?" she asks. "We have a project," Mikey says, starting to walk past her toward his room.

You follow him, hearing Emma behind you say, "Oh," almost sounding disappointed, "Ok. Have fun," she chirps as you make it to his room. You set your stuff down and get to work with him. It was silent the first few minutes, and surprisingly, it wasn’t awkward or uncomfortable. It felt normal. But eventually, Mikey broke the silence with more questions. "So you had been eating alone today. You have many friends at school?" Wow, great question. You shake your head, "Nope. I used to have one friend, but she's traveling with her family now," you say, not taking your eyes from the project. "Well, then I assume no boyfriend either?" he asks.

"You don't have many friends either, do you, Mikey?" you ask, looking up with a sarcastic smile. "Sorry," he laughs nervously, "I probably could've worded that better." He turns his attention back to the project. "Could've fooled me though, I would've thought a bunch of guys would be after you," he smirks. You smile and blush, rolling your eyes. As you continue to sit there, you hear a storm in the distance, looking up and out his window. "Hm, we might be able to finish before it gets closer," Mikey says.

You continue on the project for the next hour and a half. Every once in a while, feeling the presence of Emma at the door but ignored it. "What a two-week project," Mikey laughs after you finish. "Easy," you say, smiling at him. You turn your attention back outside, seeing the storm had started and was big, and you knew Mikey wouldn't let you leave. It looked really unsafe. "You can stay here until it calms down," Mikey says, seeing you stare out the window. You turn to him and nod, starting to put all your supplies away.

The door swings open. "You're staying?!" Emma asks, looking hopeful. "Yeah, just for a while until the storm calms down," you nod. "Great!" she cheers. Once you are done putting everything away, Mikey gets up, heading to the kitchen to cook dinner. Emma pulls you off to the side, wanting you to play a game with her. You do, smiling at how happy she gets. For once, you relax, playing with her, your mind no drifting, your thoughts and memories not attacking you. You felt happy.

There's a thud on the roof, and then the front door opening, a boy walking through, someone you can guess is Mikey's brother. He has in armor and a helmet. He removes it and looks at you and Emma. Emma jumps up, running and hugging him just like she did Mikey. "Welcome home, Shinichiro!" He hugs her, his eyes flickering over to you. You stand, walking to him and putting out your hand to shake. "Hi, I'm Y/n. Me and Mikey are working on a project." He shakes your hand, "Someone other than Draken. That's different," he says. He looks over to Mikey and walks around you, joining him in the kitchen.

Emma pulls you back to the game, and within minutes Mikey walks in from the kitchen and gives you both a plate. "Thanks," you say. "No problem, hope you like squid," he says. You nod and start eating. Mikey goes back and gets a plate for himself. He sits down on the couch. Shinichiro disappears in the hallway, coming back in regular clothes, and gets his plate. "So, Y/n, you have any siblings?" Shinichiro asks.

"Uh, yeah. A brother and sister," you say. He nods, "How old are they? Are they at the same school as you and Mikey?"

Mikey looks up, giving him a look, "Could you not give her the third degree right now? I'm trying to keep her as a friend," Mikey says.

"I'm just making conversation," Shinichiro shrugs. "Wait, you guys are only friends?" Emma pouts. "Yeah," Mikey looks up at you, "Well, I hope you could at least call us that?" he says, wanting your approval.

"Yeah," you smile at her, "Just friends." She pouts but stays quiet and eats her food.

Friends. It's been a while since you had a friend. If you were honest, you didn't think of him as your friend. You just met him. He was only someone from your class. You only said that to humor Emma. For whatever reason, she wanted you to be friends so much. It didn't matter. After today, he'd forget about you, moving on with his life. You had finished the project, and so he had no reason to want to stick around you. He had his own friends.

Emma gets up after a few minutes, taking all the plates to the kitchen. She comes back, first starting toward Mikey to sit next to him on the couch, but then pausing and turning instead toward Shinichiro. She climbs on the sofa he sits on, sitting next to him and snuggling under the blanket. Mikey turns on the tv, turning to a random channel.

"Y/n, if you want to sit up here, you can," Mikey says, referring to the couch. You had still been sitting on the floor from playing with Emma. You nodded and got up, sitting next to him. You all sit quietly, watching the tv. After some time, your eyes grew heavy, and eventually, against your will, they closed.

Mikey didn't notice until you started leaning on his shoulder. That was one thing about you. You could fall asleep anywhere, but you always lean when you sleep, so you lean on random people sometimes. You hated it.

He blushes, looking at Shinichiro and Emma to see if they noticed, but they hadn't. Emma was cuddling into Shinichiro's side and asleep, and he's focused on the show. Mikey looked back to you, smiling again as he got more comfortable.

Eventually, Mikey falls asleep, but not before you leaned more on him, your head resting on his lap, as you unconsciously moved your body up on the couch. Mikey moved the blanket higher on your body, making sure you were warm before he rested his hand on your waist, closed his eyes, and drifted to sleep.

Mikey didn't have to make the food. He didn't have to be nice to you or care if you left, but he did. Mikey didn't have to make his family seem normal but did. He did, for you. Mikey liked you and didn't want to scare you away. He didn't know why, but he had been fond of you ever since the class when you were nice to him.

Mikey's family is part of a species feared among the planet. It didn't have a name, and anyone who knew about them always kept their distance. The rare species were that of ones who drank blood to live. It had been a weird mutation thousands of centuries ago. They were still normal, just like everyone else, but they had fangs that allowed them to drink blood, and they could heal themselves. That was the one big difference, and people feared it. Mikey and his siblings are among the last to still live on Lothal.

Nobody knew about him and his family. The only person that knew was Draken. He was the reason nobody knew there were still ones of the species on Lothal, he let Mikey, Shinichiro, and Emma feed from him. He helped them stay alive and not always on high alert or in the spotlight of being discovered. So because of all that, Mikey made the food, invited you to his home, let you meet his siblings, kept up the traditional family look, all for you. He didn't want anything to seem out of the normal. He wanted to be close to you.

An hour passes before Shinichiro wakes Emma up, telling her to head to bed. She gets up, looking over at you and Mikey peacefully asleep, saying a quiet "aww" before leaving to the hallway. You stir a little, shifting on his lap but falling asleep again. Mikey wakes up a while later, smiling when he sees you still sleeping. He grabs the tv remote, turning it on low volume to not disturb you.

In the morning, you start to wake up, stretching and opening your eyes. When you realize you were asleep on Mikey, you quickly sit up. "Sorry," you say shyly. "It's ok," he smiles.

There was a moment of silence, then a loud boom of thunder, making your breath hitch and flinch against Mikey. His hand was still on your waist, and he tightened it, pulling you closer, concern written all over his face. "What's wrong?" You let out a breath, glancing at him before turning your head again. "I-um, I'm not that fond of storms," you laugh nervously. "May I ask why?" his voice soft and sincere.

You think for a moment, looking down at your fingers as you fidget with them. "My friend, who is traveling, she had a sister, and she died," your voice gets quiet as you speak, "It was a storm. Her sister was home, and their house got super messed up. After the storm, the house was unrecognizable. She died inside. I've hated storms since then."

Your heart breaks at the memory. You think about what happened, the details you were leaving out. All the feelings you had that day, threatening to return. "I'm sorry. That really sucks," Mikey says. "That's why my friend is traveling right now. Her sister always wanted to go out and see other places. To honor her, they've been traveling all over the galaxy," you finish.

Neither of you speaks for a moment. Mikey keeps his arm around you, unconsciously circling his thumb on your arm to comfort you. You shake your head, snapping out of the memories and looking up at Mikey. "So, how'd you meet Draken? You guys seem close." It was a topic you'd been wondering about but never asked, and now seemed like a good time to change the subject.

"Oh, well, we met a few years ago. I saved Draken's life, and we been together ever since," he smiles. "Really? What happened?" you ask, the change in topic already taking your mind off everything. "Let's say he got mixed in the wrong crowd. He almost got shot, but I took the blow," Mikey sits up straighter, his arm now on the back of the couch, his hand leaning over your shoulder, lightly playing with your hair.

"Did it scar?" you ask. Mikey sits up, lifting his shirt, showing a scar near his heart. You unconsciously reach your hand out, tracing it over the skin. It's rougher than the rest of his skin, darker, and looks like his skin was trying to stretch and heal but instead making a weird scar. You look up, pulling your hand away, feeling embarrassed. "Sorry," you say. Mikey smiles, looking at you but not saying anything.

You and Mikey continue talking, you a little more about his brother and parents. "I don't have many memories with them. It happened so long ago, and so much has happened since then, so I'm not really phased by it anymore. Can't miss what I don't remember, ya know?" His parents had left them six years ago. Mikey, now being 18, Shinichiro 20, and Emma only 7, Shinichiro was the only one who really remembered anything. Even when they were around, they were always gone.

Later in the day, when the storm cleared, Mikey agreed to take you home. Him, and Emma of crouse. You agreed and walked with them toward your home, which was only about a 5-minute walk. You talk to Emma about your family and life, only telling her the good stuff. When you get closer to your house, a part of you hoped your family wasn't home, but they were.

When you get closer, your brother opens the door. "Where've you been," he looks at the people next to you, "Who're they?" You all walk up closer, standing in the doorway. "This' Mikey, from my school. And his sister Emma. I stayed at their house last night cause of the storm. They wanted to walk me home," you tell him. Yuki gives you a knowing nod and steps to the side, "You guys should stay for dinner." You look up at him, your eyes widening, surprised at him, but you whip the look from your face and nod in agreeance when Mikey accepts the invitation. You step inside the house with Mikey and Emma following.

They walk with you as you head to your room. You push the door open, letting the two walkthrough. "There are two beds. You share this room?" Mikey asks, referring to the two beds facing each other on opposite sides of the wall. "Yeah. There aren't many rooms here, so Yuki and I share, and my sister, Kori, shares with-" you pause, "She's the oldest, so she has her own room." Mikey looks confused but lets it go, walking over and sitting on the one he could guess was yours, Emma following.

You excuse yourself, telling them you're going to tell your mom they're staying. When you leave, Yuki walks to you in the hallway. "So, who's this guy?" He asks. "Just a partner from school, why?" you ask.

He gives you a sarcastic look. "Do you really need to ask that? You know why," he sighs, "It's just, not like you, anymore." He scans your face for any sign he could read, but he gets none. "He's my partner. It wasn't my plan to stay with him so long. Plus, you're the one who invited him in. Why the change in heart?"

"I know. I know, I'm sorry. I only want to make sure you're ok. This guy, of all people, he's weird. He gets into fights a lot and will disappear from school for days at a time. I don't want anything to happen," his voice gets barely above a whisper, almost like he doesn't want you to hear what he says next, "You just got better. Anything could be a setback. Especially if you get close with him."

You sigh. "I'm fine, Yuki. It's ok." You move your gaze up at him but quickly avert it. "I'm gonna go talk to mom," you say. You walk past him toward the kitchen to your mom, who's cooking dinner. Yuki loves you, and he only wants to look out for you.

Meanwhile, in your room, Kori went to talk to Mikey. "I'm Kori. So, you're her partner, right? You guys dating or something?" she leans on the door, arms crossed. "Nope. Only friends," Mikey says. "No offense or anything, but Y/n is, how do I say this, well she's different. What I mean is, if you plan on being friends with her, you need to stick close. You need to really stay by her side." Kori uncrosses her arms and steps further into the room as she talks.

"Well, yeah. I plan on being a friend. What do you mean, though? What happened?" Mikey asks, his face turning concerned. Kori sighs, turning to the door and closing it before stepping further into the room. "She'd kill me if she knew I was telling you about this, but I'm guessing she told you about the whole storm thing," Mikey nods, "Well, that's not all. There's a little more to the story."

OK so au where Inui dies in the fire while Akane still gets burned so bad that she goes into coma. And it's super fucking hard for Koko, because yeah his crush is in an awful state but he also lost his best friend. He's dead and there's no coming back and it fucking sucks. He becomes even more obsessed with money to help Akane, because now more than his crush she's also all he has left of his best friend. It's not great on his mental health, living without Inui. So when Inui's ghost appears in front of him one day, obviously he thinks he's hallucinating hard. After a few tests (of the 'tell me what's going on in the other side of the city where I never set foot so I know you know things I don't' variety) they both come to the conclusion that Inui is, indeed, real. Inui is pretty happy about that, because while existing like that sucks a little, it's better than being dead, and he gets to stay with Koko which is nice! And he's also sad about Koko's life, he had it hard those last few years. Koko is also happy about it. Obviously if his best friend had something he needed to do to like go to the other side, he would help him! But Inui seems to want to stay here, so it's good and he's been really lonely since the fire. It just feels good to have his best friend again.

So they stay together from now on (which wouldn't change from the manga, I literally never saw them apart before the tenjiku thing). Inui helps Koko to spy on people, since he's a ghost only koko can see he's basically the perfect spy (plus it gives him things to do) and most of the time Koko remembers to take his phone out and fake a call when he's talking to Inui so he doesn't seems like a nutcase but sometimes he forgets... Often enough that some people notice.

Some people think it's an imaginary friend (because some of them are still young enough for imaginary friends), some believe he's haunted (which makes Koko laugh a lot) but the majority thinks he's just insane. Koko doesn't minds ; if people believe he's not right in the head they get scared of him, which is nice. He ends up being an information broker, because he's very good at knowing things on his own, so with Inui's ghostly help? It's even better, and it's a also a great way to make money. And it makes Inui less bored. And then... It happens. Akane dies. It's very hard for both of them. For a while they think that she's gonna come back as a ghost like Inui did, but when it becomes obvious that she won't, they can finally grieve. And it feels... Relieving, in a way. It's okay, they still have each other despite the sadness.

They're not quite sure what to do after that. Inui's dream is not to make the black dragons great again, since his social life revolves around the only person who can see him, so he didn't met anyone from that gang, so they don't join the black dragons. Koko's not quite sure what to do too, since his reason to gain money was to help Akane, his life is now... Kinda purposeless? So I suppose he just lives like us purposeless people do. He keeps being an information broker, because hey he still needs money to live and it's a job he does well and it gives Inui things to do. He starts talking to Inui more openly, to increase his reputation of craziness ; if people believe he's crazy they'll leave him alone (also not having to hide that he's talking to his best friend is kinda relieving, he doesn't gives a fuck about what people think). Also, he's wearing heels because Inui really liked heels but now he obviously can't wear them anymore so Koko wears them for him, they're not that bad (and you can like, kinda stab people with them so it rocks).

Obviously he ends up dealing with the Toman, maybe before Takemichi does his time travel thing - I think he'd have normal info business with them, you know. I also for some reason think he'd be friends with Draken? Or it is because they're both my favorites and I want my favorites to be friends? Maybe. Anyway, he's at least on talking terms with Draken and Mikey. They both think he's weird with his talk to the air thing, but Mikey thinks it's funny and Draken doesn't cares. They do ask, tho. And when Koko tells them it's the ghost of his best friend, they shrug and he doesn't knows if that means they believe him or not. But well.

Inui's and Koko's relationship is basically the same, if a bit more codependent (and thats' saying something given that they seemed at least a bit codependent in canon), but there's a lot less doubt on Inui's part that Koko sees Akane in him ; he has seen what his death did to Koko, and it really wasn't pretty, so he knows Koko really cares.

In the future, I suppose he's a well known information broker, both for his effectiveness at knowing thing and for the fact that he's clearly some flavor of insane (but not the violent kind of insane). Naoto recommends Takemichi to find him at the second time jump, if he want to stop Mikey and Kisaki from meeting, Koko will know where they are and what they're doing (he does also warns Takemichi to not be surprised when Koko talks to thin air, it's a thing he still does today). I think Takemichi would ask him who he's talking to, and believe him, because why would à time traveler doubt the existence of ghosts? Maybe he would also try to befriend them. I... Don't think Koko would be his friend tho. Inui might, but also he needs Koko to translate for him so... I mean Koko isn't gonna stop Inui from having more friends, he's not that jealous or insecure ; they're literally codependent and he knows Inui will always return to him (since he's the only one who sees him). So he stays a minor character in the plot, in a different way but still. Hanging out in the background kinda style. Maybe with more interactions with Draken and Mikey, because I want my faves to be friends.
