Spoilers for both F.R.I.E.N.D.S and Stranger Things!
Ok but. I was watching F•R•I•E•N•D•S with my family earlier this day, and something notable came up during the episode.
Does this scene remind you of anything, dear reader scrolling through the byler/stranger things tag?
Tumblr media
This scene.
For context, the guy on the left is Ross; about to marry Emily, the woman on the left. The one behind them is Rachel, who is in love with Ross.
Tumblr media
...yeah.
At first, it seems both Will and Rachel are supposed to accept that the one they're in love with is not with them; and both of them do try to commence with it for a bit.
Now, there is interesting context to be added.
Ross is in love with Rachel. He was since he was a kid. However, they never seemed to work out, going through random drama I'm too tired to explain, and later he ALSO fell in love with Emily, while away from Rachel, choosing to later marry her. But then he sees Rachel again just before his wedding, and during the wedding ceremony, he accidentally says Rachel's name instead of Emily's, causing and inflicting drama, and making Rachel realize he still loves her.
Rachel and Ross get together for good, after ten seasons of will-they-wont-they.
And so - if me imagine Ross as Mike, Rachel as Will, and Emily as El...
Who do y'all think is getting together?
I'm not sure if FRIENDS is on Stranger Things inspiration board or not, this could've been a pureeeeeee coincidence, so let me know if this is the case.
There are much, much stronger arguments for Byler - but I just wanted to make this post as a small thing to notice on the way.

All the stranger things characters are queer.
I don’t care that it’s not canon they’re all queer.
And most of them are neurodivergent in some capacity
Here are my personal headcanons (as a queer, Nonbinary, neurodivergent indivdual) :
Robin Buckley - Lesbian, Gender Diverse in some capacity (Probably a Demi-girl or something similar and uses She/They), Autistic and possibly also ADHD
Steve Harrington - Bisexual/Pansexual, Cis Dude(He/Him) Probably has ADHD (would explain a few things you have to admit)
Eddie Munson - Gay, Trans Masculine (He/They) (And this definitely is linked to why he doesn’t live with his parents, there’s just something about him that makes me so sure he’s trans) Autistic and ADHD
Max Mayfield - Bisexual (I mean did you see the way she looked at El?), Genderfluid and uses all pronouns (I don’t know there’s just a vibe you know), maybe ADHD but I’m not totally sure
Lucas Sinclair - Thought he was very much straight till Max came out, now identifies as Pansexual, Cis guy (He/Him), one of the very few neurotypical characters on the show
Eleven (Jane) Hopper - Pansexual (She also looked at Max like that, and she’s clearly in love with Mike), Probably Asexual, until recently I thought she was cis but I’ve seen a lot of people hcing them as non-binary. They grew up in a lab that from the snippets we’ve seen was very gender neutral and I don’t think El would have had a firm grasp of gender. She did really like the concept of femininity though so I’m going to say She/They, probably something along the lines of a Demi girl, similar to Robin. I think she’s Autistic but I don’t know for sure whether it’s that, the lab altering her social development or both, probably both though.
Nancy Wheeler - Sapphic in some capacity, Cis girl (She/Her) and neurotypical
Jonathan Byers - Pansexual (S4 Jonathan just doesn’t give a fuck, earlier Jonathan probably ID’d as straight), Trans man (He/Him, maybe He/They) (I mean have you seen the boy, I mean the slouch, the outfits!), Autistic, definitely Autistic
Mike Wheeler - Achillean in some capacity (Byler forever), Cis guy (he/him), I think neurotypical but honestly I have no idea when it comes to Mike
Will Byers - Gay, Very, Very Gay, Cis man (He/Him), Autistic (which by the way is genetic so makes perfect sense for both him and Jonathan to be Autistic)
Dustin Henderson -AroAce (I know he’s with Suzie right now but he’s still figuring it out), maybe trans masc I haven’t entirely decided regardless he/him, also definitely Autistic.
So yeah. I’m open to discussing these respectfully. As you can see some of these I’m still on the fence about and I’d love to hear peoples opinions. And I’m aware it’s the 80’s and therefore this ‘isn’t accurate to the show’ they’re headcanons if that’s your thought process you can kindly fuck off.

Sapphic Fandom Stats: Problems with Looking at the Data
When I was looking through the data gathered on the works tagged with the F/F category, I saw a few things that made me wonder how many of the works were focused on sapphic relationships, and how many had them as background relationships.
This is something people looking for WLW/sapphic works have commented on before; that background tagging can make up the majority of a day's updates in some pairing tags.
A month or two back, I saw a few people commenting on it regarding looking for Robin Buckley/Nancy Wheeler fics. Interested in what the numbers said, I did some basic analysis of a sample of most of the F/F tagged works (>,5000 works) in Stranger Things on AO3 and found a few things that did indicate a fair bit of background tagging. Tagging is tricky at times; ask a group of fans how they'd want a work to be tagged and you'd probably get so many conflicting responses that you'd leave the group still unsure how to tag your work. This really isn't meant to single out people for wrong tagging or anything of the sort; it's to highlight how it makes analysis of sapphic-focused works more difficult, especially in bigger fandoms. This is why I have not tagged any fandoms on this post as well. Note: The tag: #Cookies Sapphic Fandom Stats can be used to filter out or follow these types of posts.
Stranger Things - F/F Categorised Works
There were 5,890 works included in the search with the following findings: ~7% of works had no female characters tagged as characters at all. ~10% of works had no F/F pairing at all tagged in the Relationships tag section. ~26% of works did not contain a single one of the combinations of F/F between Stranger Things characters that I could think of, including Rare Pairs like Robin Buckley/Kali Prasad, and Reader/You works which could be written either as gender neutral or female self-inserts. If we were being very generous with considering misspellings and errors that the Tag Wranglers wrangled under single tags (e.g. Something like "Robyn/Christie" as a misspelling) we could take that down to 20% of the works in the F/F category containing no sapphic relationships tagged between Stranger Things characters. The F/F pairings that make up the difference between this section and the above section, were non-Stranger Things characters (in crossovers, drabble collections etc.) There were ~3.5% which contained just one of the following tags without another pairing tagged: Billy Hargrove/Steve Harrington, Steve Harrington/Eddie Munson, Will Byers/Mike Wheeler, and Steve Harrington/Johnathan Byers. This percentage was also the result of a quick manual review to check the characters were written as male (i.e. not trans head-canons or gender swaps).
Finally, the stats above don't take into consideration the works where the relationships are tagged but are given very little page-time. For example of the 5890 F/F works: 1,810 works were tagged with Steve/Eddie, 1,151 were tagged with Will/Mike, and 439 were tagged Billy/Steve. A quick check of random pages from those filters suggests that as many as 40-50% of the works tagged with those relationships (especially Steve/Eddie) have those relationships as the main focus of the story-line with the F/F relationship as secondary.
So, the numbers also indicate that background tagging of pairings and F/F categories happens, at least in some fandoms.
Back to the week's works and the background tagging problem there
So, with that background information in mind, Stranger Things being up in 5th made me wonder if that was at play here. When I scrolled down and spotted fandoms I knew to lean strongly achillean in pairings like Heartstopper and Teen Wolf ranking fairly high up, I decided to check manually. I checked the summaries for each work and used the tag cloud extension to see which names were repeated most often throughout a work (indicating which characters the work focuses on most). Just over 1/3 of the F/F works in the Stranger Things tag for the week did not mention any sapphic characters or pairings in the summary, and female characters were much smaller in the frequency tag cloud, indicating they were secondary/tertiary characters. In Heartstopper, around 2/3 of the works did not mention the sapphic pairing or characters in the summary and female characters were much smaller in the frequency tag cloud. In Teen Wolf, 5/6 of the works did not mention the sapphic pairing or characters in the summary and female characters were much smaller in the frequency tag cloud. So, it did indeed look like the total original 7,750 works tagged with the F/F category, were unlikely to majority be focused on F/F works.
This is why, for the stats back on the week's F/F works, I ended up opting to filter out works that were also tagged with M/M and with F/M. This means that some sapphic-focused works with background relationships for those other categories were missed, but did highlight more fandoms with a sapphic skew to their recent works, which is ultimately what I was interested in. It also suggested that in some fandoms, if you want to find works about sapphic pairings, you may need to resort to completely excluding big M/M or (in some other fandoms) F/M pairings entirely, or use "otp: true" in the search box of AO3's filter menu along with your preferred pairing.
