A better balance of superheroics and teenage life, the latter being more interesting, and at least one interesting new villain help balance some of the more tired new and old villain tropes in this set of issues, leaning towards an entertaining read.

Order and Imperfection
Before the World was, there existed the God of Order, and They were displeased with the chaos around Them. With a flex of their will They gathered together the wild elements of reality and formed them into a pleasing shape, a World wherein They could fulfill their desires.
For an uncounted age They were content to shape and mold their creation, uplifting mighty mountains and carving deep oceans, sowing great forests and sculpting wondrous creatures. Yet their contentment did not last, for there were none to appreciate the perfection of the Grand Design and sing the praises of the God of Order.
So the God set their hand to Creation once more, and crafted, in their own image, the race of Elves. Beings of grace and beauty designed to marvel at the perfection of the World and raise their voices in praise of the God who had created all. And the God did bask in their worship as They gazed upon the movements of the Elves through the world. But once again, the contentment of the God did not last. For the adoration of the Elves was lacking. In their limited creation they were bereft of the capacity to comprehend in its fullness the majesty of their God.
From the depths of their power the God toiled again. Far above the world of their making, They assembled their masterwork —a companion, one equipped with the power and knowledge to fully grasp the intricate perfection of The Work. And this New God fulfilled their purpose. They gazed upon Creation in wonder and awe, They marveled at the majesty of land and sea, plant and creature, and They listened with rapture to the songs of the Elves. And through it all They knew and understood that it was by the will and power of the God of Order that these things were so.
At long last content with their Creation, The God of Order rested for a time, leaving the care and maintenance of the World to their companion.
And the New God fulfilled their purpose, content with their role. But They were an equal to the God of Order in more ways than knowledge, and their contentment faltered as well. The perfection that so pleased the Creator began to chafe against the New God in its regularity, its tedium. Where is the wonder in beauty if there is nothing plain with which to compare it? What satisfaction is there in worship when every prayer and song is scripted?
In secret the New God began their own work —a people of their own, full of both goodness and flaws, desires and distastes, good and evil. In time They released mankind upon the World and watched with delight as they carved out for themselves a place in the Grand Design. They lived and died and built and destroyed, and with every action they took they sent fractures spiraling through the patterns of Order, and the God of Imperfection found beauty in their faults.
Their joy in their creation was short lived however, for in time the God of Order returned to the World and found it changed from their design. They traced back the fractures in fate, the wrinkles in the pattern, until they found their source, and the World shook with their rage. Their perfection had been marred, their world tainted with the ugliness of these new people. In their wrath the God of Order swore destruction upon all They had created. All of creation would be dismantled, returned to the very elements of reality from which it was formed, and the God of Order would begin again.
The God of Imperfection wept that their people would fall, for They loved them for their flaws and despaired that they would be unmade. In their sorrow They too vowed destruction, and with a flex of their Will and the power of Creation, crafted a mighty sword from starlight and void and plunged it into the back of the God of Order.
But Gods do not die so easily, and though their scream of pain and betrayal cast down forests and shattered mountains, the God of Order would not be undone so easily. And so began the First and Great War of the World.
Battle was waged across sky, land, and sea, and with every piece of their perfect world cast into disorder by their fight, the God of Order fell deeper into their fury. Such Godly emotion was infectious, and spread through their creations, and so the war of the Gods descended to mortal realms. Elves fell upon humans in a great slaughter, their fighting and warfare as perfect as their singing and worship had ever been.
But the God of Order had made their companion —their Enemy— as an equal in creation, and Imperfection would not be overwhelmed. They twisted the powers of Creation into a new form, and from within the depths of Godly battle were born the Orcs. These great beasts of men, created for war by their God, rode through fire and smoke to the defense of their brothers.
The battle was not quick. It was not long. But generations rose and perished through its duration. Armies were willed into existence at a thought, sentient beings created fully formed, armed, and ready to join the fight. When the God of Order sent newly begotten angels and celestial beings charging from the sky, Their counterpart found room in them for fault, and formed their mirrors, devils and demons, to meet them.
Through this all, while mortals battled through the world, the Gods never ceased their own melee. Weapons struck and pulled free, wounds opened and scarred. blasts of pure creation and destruction tore at the fabric of their very existence. It seemed for a time that this was to be the new fate of the world, locked in eternal war.
But all things come to an end. Even Gods.
It ended on the shattered mountains where it had begun. The God of Order lay still in death against a ruined peak, the haft of a mighty spear piercing Them through the eye. It is said that the tip of the spear reached to the very heart of the world, and to this day molten fury pours from the ruined mountain and the ruined corpse of the First God.
There was no victory to be found for the God of Imperfection however. The once perfect form granted Them by their Creator was marred and broken by uncountable blows, and the mighty Spirit of Creation that had filled Them could not remain whole in such a broken vessel. They too fell victim to their wounds, and their corpse fills an entire valley, where rivers now carve through their remains.
The battle ceased and the beings of the mortal realm looked to the devastation wreaked by those who had made them. Of the mountains and forests and oceans and plains crafted in perfection, none remain untouched or unmarred. In the midst of this devastation, more than ash and blood drifted through the skies.
There, among the darkness and despair was a spark to be found, and then another, and then a thousand and a hundred thousand and a million more. From the broken forms of the Gods was released the power those shells could no longer contain. Pure Creation flooded the world, for all to grasp. And the Elves and Men, the Angels and Demons, and all the multitude of beings brought into existence in this world took hold, and set themselves to the task of Creation, to the rebuilding of the world, and the shaping of it in their own image.

Hey Imp! I'm looking to purchase an omnibus or volume for any series Namor has and I was wondering what'd be the best for someone who's just getting into the character? I've read Atlantis Attacks, King in Black: Namor, Invaders (2019), and All New Invaders, but I want to read more surrounding him and his cast of characters. Since you're the resident expert, what do you recommend?
Hello! I highly recommend new Namor fans read Saga of the Sub-Mariner (1988), a 12 limited series that goes over Namor's entire history from the Golden Age until the 90s series. If you don't want to hunt down the single comics then you can find it in an Omnibus which also collects Jim Hammond's 4 issue limited series.
Sub-Mariner & The Original Human Torch
Tumblr media
However the best era of Namor was in the Silver Age in terms of his supporting cast and stories that feature him and Atlantis. There's quite a few collections out there:
Tumblr media
Marvel Masterworks: Sub-Mariner volumes collect: Marvel Comics #1 Daredevil (1964) #7 + 77 Tales to Astonish #70-101 Tales of Suspense #80 Iron Man & Sub-Mariner (1968) #1 The Sub-Mariner (1968) #1-72 Marvel Spotlight (1971) #27
This is the longest running and most definitive Silver Age run for Namor and Atlantis. It introduces a lot of characters, and Namor villains, and brings back old characters from the Golden Age as well.
Tumblr media
Epic Collection: Sub-Mariner volumes collect: Fantastic Four (1961) #4, 6, 9, 14, 27, 33, Annual 1 Strange Tales (1951) #107 Avengers (1963) #3-4 X-Men (1963) #6 Daredevil (1964) #7 Tales to Astonish #70-76 The Sub-Mariner (1968) #4-27
There's some overlap/same issues here as the Masterworks but also I consider the Epic collection as Namor's early guest starring comics all in one place.
Tumblr media
This is a new Omnibus, but it collects stuff that's been in the other two. Mighty Marvel Masterworks: Namor the Sub-Mariner collects:
Tales to Astonish #70-80 Daredevil (1964) #7
Prince, Namor the Sub-Mariner (1984) has not been collected to my knowledge but it's a 4 issue limited series
Tumblr media
Personally I would rec Sub-Mariner: Revolution which collects: Sub-Mariner (2007) #1-6
Tumblr media
The full 90s series has not been collected into an Omnibus yet but so far Marvel has put out a few volumes.
Namor: Visionaries - John Bryne collects Namor, the Sub-Mariner (1990) #1-18
Tumblr media
Namor the Sub-Mariner by John Bryne & Jae Lee collects: Namor, the Sub-Mariner (1990) #1-40, Annual 1 + 2, Incredible Hulk Annual #18, Silver Surfer Annual 5, Doctor Strange: Sorcerer Supreme Annual 2
Tumblr media
All that's left is the Namor: The First Mutant collections which I think is split into 2 volumes and collects Namor: The First Mutant (2010) - 11 issues + Annual, but it could be more like an x-men comic in there too or something
Tumblr media
Namor in other omnibuses would be a lot because he's been on nearly every major Marvel team, and I know this is alot but I wanted to give you a complete look at the omnibuses that only focus on Namor solos and not the other teams omnibuses. As I said before I personally enjoy the comics of Sub-Mariner (2007), Tales to Astonish and The Sub-Mariner (1968), First Mutant is good too.

The Strangest Super Heroes of All Review: The writing is heavy-handed and repetitive at times and Stan Lee's drama leans hard into adolescent melodrama, but there's something about the premise of these different superheroes with powers being feared by the public as a different race of humanity, that mostly keeps these early issues just interesting enough to be worth revisiting for diehard fans.

"TWICE AS MANY PAGES! TWICE AS MANY THRILLS!" IN THE MIGHTY MARVEL MANNER!
PIC INFO: Spotlight on published and inked cover art to one of John Buscema's true masterworks, cover art to "Avengers" Annual Vol. 1 #2. September, 1968. Marvel Comics.
OVERVIEW: "When you talk about classic Silver Age "Avengers" covers, this one always comes up! John Buscema's pulse-pounding art catapults this masterful cover illustration from off the paper into our collective memories. The original Avengers (c. 1963) face-off against the current Avengers (c. 1968) in this poster like image from a very well remembered period of the Avengers. The Hulk, Captain America, Black Panther, Hawkeye, Giant-Man, Wasp, Thor, Iron Man... they're all here!"
