How do you feel about each couple in HoA? Do have your favorites?

Abso-fucking-lutely I have favorites. I'm gonna give you all my feelings on the canon couples (plus Jabian, 'cause even though it wasn't canon it feels like big enough of a thing to count)

LOVE: I absolutely ADORE Fabian/Nina and Patricia/Eddie. Completely superior couples, a step above the rest. Nothing will compare. You can say one was my obsession as a child and one is my obsession now, but I am absolutely in love with the both of them. Fabian/Nina was my childhood obsession, and tbh Fabina was the very first ship I sought out fanfic for, it's how I discovered fanfiction dot net lol. I read SO much fanfic for them back then. And Peddie dominates my current fanfic life; 90% of the fics in my google drive are about them, and they're the only thing I wanna read frankly.

Love: Jerome/Mara and Alfie/Amber, I love them so much. Especially Jara, god I ADORE that couple. From the second Alfie called out Jerome's crush mid-season 1, I was hooked, and child me was anxiously waiting for them to happen. I still adore them. Also Amfie, that was another one of the childhood obsessions that I'm still in love with. I get why some people don't, but I still love them. I'm not currently obsessed with either of these couples like I am the two above, but I love them they're superior.

Neutral/Ambivalent: I have little to no feelings about Amber/Mick, Mick/Mara, and Alfie/Willow. Mickber was fine I guess but like it was very clear they were never going to last. Mickra had their moments but tbh I was just biding my time with them until Jara finally happened. And Walfie's cute I guess but I simply have no feelings about them.

Dislike: Fabian/Joy and Jerome/Willow. Nope. No thank you! I simply would rather not. I do not like. Not a fan.

Hate: I absolutely completely hate Jerome/Joy and Fabian/Mara with the fiery burning passion of a thousand suns. Thinking about them makes me viscerally upset and seeing them makes me feel like a bull seeing red. I reject them like a bad organ. Nope nope absolutely not. Cannot stand either of them whatsoever. If I see content featuring either of them I will close it SO fast. Like a surefire way to get me to absolutely never read your fic is to feature one of these two couples. I simply will not interact with them, I hate them so much. I don't want to look at them, I don't want to acknowledge them. And I have to stop myself from going on further or else I'm just going to make myself upset. Bottom line: I really really really hate them.

Things that I would've done differently in HHA.

These are more so changes rather than several new ideas.

Inspiration for this comes from this post by @amelia-pinches !

Season 1:

The thing that bothered me the most about this season is the whole Amber-Mick-Mara love triangle. Mickra was a boring ship + it ruined the friendship between Amber and Mara.

Something pretty dumb: But I wanted Appie and Jeroen to be part of the mystery much earlier. Jeroen already knew they were hiding secrets and involved in something big somewhere around the EP30-40 mark. So, why is it that he only becomes an important part of the plot like 40 episodes later?

Season 2:

Should've told us more about what Ewout Winsbrugge-Hennegouwen wrote down in that diary/journal of his. All we got to know was that he found a stone tablet talking about the legend of King Tut and Amneris.

Wolf and Raven being the same person was obvious from the beginning. Like, we all could see it the moment they introduced Wolf as the new history teacher. Would've been nice if the reveal in season 2 mid-finale was a surprise for us viewers as well. I liked the simple raven mask he wore, but it would've been better if he wore one that concealed his whole face.

Hated everything that involved Jimmy. Unnecessary asf. Should've never introduced his character.

Shouldn't have made Patricia so boy-crazy in season 2, when throughout all of season 1, they made it pretty clear that she was never really into romance and dating, on the contrary even. Don't get me wrong, though, I love Patricia & Robbie and am very glad that they ended up together. But I just hoped that the writers handled it better, and not have her be so obsessed with the whole idea of dating someone.

Should've given us more scenes of Jeroen talking with his father, maybe even just some flashback scenes of Jeroen's childhood.

Season 3:

If I had a say in this series, then the first few episodes of season 3 would be dedicated to the Club hanging around in Egypt. I didn't like how all that we got to see were just some scenes in the Love Tomb.

Didn't like how Patricia treated Robbie in the beginning of season 3 one bit! She got angry way too fast, and never let Robbie explain himself. Accusing him of lying, and then when he tells her what she wanted to hear, she gets mad as well? Love how she actually learned from her mistakes, though. 'Cuz you could clearly see the difference in the way she treated others and handled things if you compare her early season 3 appearances with her later ones in season 3, and in season 4.

Appie's change in appearance should've been handled better.

Y'all probably gonna hate me for this one lol, but I feel like it would've been better had Fabian died for real. I know, it's inappropriate to kill off a young character on a show that kids watch, but still. I love Fabian Ruitenburg, but I feel like him dying could've been, like, i don't know, a "good lesson" to show kids that there can be really bad consequences if you get yourself involved in dangerous stuff?

While I'm still on the Fake Death topic anyway: I wish they didn't show him get kidnapped or waking up from his coma in the same episode when the doctor told the others that he passed away. The HHA writers have shown us that they are good in surprises etc, sprinkling some signs/hints here and there, so why not make the most fun plot-twists as actual surprises for the viewers as well, not just for the characters?

Jeroen being overprotective over Noa didn't bother me in the beginning, quite enjoyed some of those scenes, but it got really annoying in the second half of season 3. And him lashing out at the others sometimes and being so short-tempered in part 2 of the season was annoying as well. Listen, with everything that happened the year before and with how much she means to him, his reactions were understandable, but the writers could've toned them down. Even Noa got fed up with it lol.

Sort of connected with the point above, and similar to the season 2-Raven point: The real identity of Jacob Van Den Berg should've stayed a secret until Season 4. They did it with Matthijs, so why not with Jacob as well? Just image how big of a surprise Season 3 finale would've been if we didn't know Jacob's real identity and the fact that Fabian wasn't actually dead, but instead kidnapped by Jacob?

VICTOR DESERVED BETTER!

Season 4:

Marijke en Sofie were unnecessary characters, and only really there for the drama. I enjoyed some scenes with the two, but the series could've done without them.

We deserved to see more of Jeroen in Egypt. All we got was some video calls. Wish we got some episodes dedicated to his mission over there.

To add to the point above: They should've shown us some flashback episodes or scenes of the family Winsbrugge-Hennegouwen, and more specifically of Ewout's solo trips to Egypt. Especially scenes of him finding the Love Tomb of Tut and Amneris and hiding the anubis doll house in there, like how it was written about in the book version.

Patricia, Joyce & Trudie leaving mid-season 4 is something I really dislike. That should've taken place in the finale instead.

General

Like the person mentioned in their hoa-post that I've linked above: hha also needed a bit more backstories. Not every main character's background was fleshed out. Victor, Jeroen and Mick had the best ones, imo. We know almost nothing about Patricia's family background, besides the fact that she has an aunt and an uncle, living in Spain, that she can't stand.

Will probably add more later on.

Age: just turned 20! (Definitely too old as well but whatever)

Favorite ship: Walfie. I love everything about them. It felt so much more natural than Amfie. I do wish they had more bonding time though. Really I like all ships, at least the versions in my head. Like “my version” of Fabina and Peddie and Jara, etc...is very different from canon so it doesn’t actually count.

Least favorite ship: Amfie. It felt so wrong and Amber sucked in the beginning of season two. I liked them so much better as the shade-throwing comedic duo. Also Mickra. I don’t have a problem per say with them but I just could not care less.

Favorite episode: ahhhh. Why would you do this to me? I have so many favorites honestly. Probably the episode where they discover senkhara’s name. I think it’s blocked wonderfully and I get chills. (It’s also one of the few episodes where Nina has consequences to her actions) Either that or the episodes where Jerome gets snatched by Rufus. (I wanted conversations between those two with Rufus being a manipulative piece of shit and poor Jerome just hanging there, trying not to die.)(I also wanted him to jump from the building like Jeroen but alas)

Least favorite: hhhhm. The episodes where Patricia is made at Eddie cause of the Piper thing. It’s just cringy cause ma girl ain’t like that

Favorite character: ummm no I cannot. I love them all for different reasons

HHA vs DHA Romantic Relationship differences:

Amber and Mick vs. Delia and Kaya:

Amber and Micks relationship seemed to be less like a joke than Delia and Kayas, but it was kind of more shit. Mick reacted more annoyed when he came back from his hollidays than Kaya did. Also Kaya seemed to have a harder time getting over Delia than Mick did with Amber. But Mick was also flirting more with Amber when he was with Mara. Mick is a huge flirt in Season 1 really. In the beginning of S2 Amber and Mick go karting together and after that he tries to kiss her which she refuses, this doesn't happen with Delia and Kaya. After Benny fixed the window in Nina and Delias room. Delia takes the pictures of her and Kaya down and puts it in the drawer. While Amber still let's her picture with Mick on the wall. It's still there by the end of S2.

Mara and Mick vs Mara and Kaya:

Overall there is more chemistry between Mara and Mick and Mara and Kaya. Mick looks actually like that he's in love with Mara while I never got that from Kaya. It's also much more heavily implied in DHA that Mara only likes Kaya for his looks and the interactions they have are much more superficial. During their relationship Mara and Mick act much more lovey dovey run around laughing and stuff. Which Mara and Kaya don't do, they act alot more distant and awkward. Mara and Mick also kiss alot more. Mara and Kaya rarely even kiss in S2 two times after they got together and then one time in S2. In S2 hha!Mara has a picture of her and Mick on her nightstand which dha!Mara doesn't have. Overall Mara and Kaya seemed like a relationship they had to get over it because of the storyline. For some reason Mara and Kayas relationship lasts longer than Mara and Micks. After their break up hha!Mara left Mick still seems to miss her and when Fabian asks if Mick has ever been so in love with someone that he goes crazy if that person isn't there Mick says, maybe Mara, that it's boring without her and that texting isn't the same. Kaya just says Maybe. It also seemed like in dha!Mara would have left that she would have rather texted with Magnus than with Kaya.

Nienke and Fabian vs. Nina and Daniel:

There is more chemistry with Nienke and Fabian than Nina and Daniel. In S1 there are a few moments before the prom that Nienke and Fabian were about to kiss which did not happen with Nina and Daniel. Overall Nienke and Fabian seem to show more affection with eachother beside kissing With Nina and Daniel they do show affection but it's mainly just kissing. Nienke and Fabian hug more. For example when Nienke comes back to the musical Fabian runs to her and hugs her, when Nienke arrives Prom she runs to Fabian and hugs him, when Fabian comes back from his uncle who got put in the hospital Nienke hugs him, which doesn't happen with Nina and Daniel. Overall Nienke and Fabian's relationship just looks alot more natural and less forced. Nienke and Fabian do look like they have fun together. Scenes of Nienke and Fabian laughing have been replaced by Nina and Daniel just kissing.

Mara and Jeroen vs. Mara and Magnus:

Mara and Magnus end up dating while Mara and Jeroen don't. Even in S1. dha!Mara laughs more with Magnus than hha!Mara does with Jeroen. In S1 Magnus makes it more obvious that he is in love with Mara than Jeroen does. During the room decorating dha!Mara flirts more with Magnus than hha!Mara does with Jeroen. ( I just watched S2 E16 and Mara is really flirting with Magnus. He does aswell. ) Mara and Magnus almost kiss at the park before the Karaoke which Mara and Jeroen don't. The Kiss at the Karaoke it was more rushes with Jeroen and Mara while it was more slow with Mara and Magnus. Magnus gets to know Mara's sister before Mara announces that she will leave while Jeroen doesn't.

Noa and Jeroen vs. Mara and Magnus:

Mara and Magnus started dating quicker because knowing eachother already therefore they acted more like a couple in S2. Noa and Jeroen also don't kiss really. Only two times and never in S3. Which Mara and Magnus do much more they also act more affectionate overall. In S2 when Magnus was working with Radus Mara seemed to notice more than Magnus is stressed out by it. Aswell does Mara look more worried for him and his safety. Not that Noa doesn't care. She does care alot aswell. But Mara just seems to show that more. Which felt like that Mara was mainly working getting his father out of prison because she didn't want anything to happen to him. Mara shows more of her vulnerable side to Magnus in S2 while Noa starts doing it with Jeroen in S3. In the begging of S3 Noa gets a postcard from Jeroen. This scene did not happen in DHA. Which doesn't mean that Magnus didn't write her. They cut many scenes of from HHA. In general Noa seems to be bit more like Jeroen than Mara is like Magnus. From the EndGame Couples Mara and Magnus know eachother the longest in DHA, while Noa and Jeroen know eachother the shortest amount of time in HHA. Arguably Mara and Magnus only really got to know eachother much later. Mara and Magnus also didn't like eachother at first while Jeroen and Noa immediately hit off and liked eachother. Mara wears the necklace Magnus gave her before the Camping Trip in S2 day and night until the S2 Finale. She doesn't seem to take it off. While Noa wears the necklace Jeroen gave her only during the day and has not been seen wearing it at night. Noa's necklace would also be more uncomfortable to sleep in.

Patricia and Robbie vs. Max and Luzy:

Patricia and Robbie act more affectionate with eachother and look way less awkward than Max and Luzy. Patricia seemed to fall for Robbie before knowing that he was her secret admirer. With Luzy it was more like that she only likes Max because of the letters. In the beginning of S3 Patricia and Robbie argue more than Max and Luzy.

Joyce and Mick vs.

Just Joyce didn't start to like Mick just for his looks. Which Charlotte basically does. There is alot more genuine development between Joyce and Mick than there is between Charlotte and Kaya. In S2 it just seemed like Charlotte was just the new girl to have a crush on Kaya and to like everything that he likes aswell. Joyce starts liking Mick after spending some time with him and getting to know him better. In the beginning of S3 Kaya is the one who wants to surprise Charlotte while Mick doesn't. Mick and Joyce get together after they visit Fabian at the hospital, Charlotte and Kaya get together after Kaya gives her a ring episodes later. Charlotte and Kaya stay together till the end and Mick and Joyce break up and he begins dating someone else. Joyce seems to fit better for Mick than Charlotte does for Kaya.

eddie + jerome: the epitome of "cause problems on purpose." they both have too much chaotic energy and little-to-no impulse-control and after both of their relationship statuses are stable they would absolutely insist on double-dates all the time and (later down the line) constantly refer to each other as "brother-in-law" instead of by name, both of which the girls roll their eyes at (though they secretly find it cute)

fabian + mick: again, not necessarily underrated per-se but lbr the focus was mostly on fabina/jabian/mickra interactions so im counting it on this list. their friendship is actually really sweet, i feel like mick sees fabian as a younger brother even though fabian's absolutely the mom-friend. 

fabian + eddie: it was actually really heartwarming how they kept assuring and hyping each other up throughout 3a and i wish we got to see more of it earlier/later. also, given the dumpster fires that were their personal lives at various points, they probably had whatever the male version of "girl-talk" is every other night and that would've been fun to see too (à la fabian's entirely unhelpful advice-giving when eddie rants to him in 3x25). hc: between ammut's defeat and dinner in 3x40, eddie's like "dude patricia's being weird, and idk why, help" and fabian…fails to do so and at some point attempts to liken relationships to math equations, to which eddie says something like "you and mara would be a great pair" and that's why fabian goes up to her at the fireworks. eddie's like "dude that's not what i meant" even though that's exactly what he said

alfie + joy: basically this gifset lol look at them!!!

patricia + willow: alskjfl u know I have to mention this one even though they only interact like 1.5 times in-canon. they're my favorite random pairing ever and i just think that at some point post-s3 they're "forced" to spend some time together by alfie and they end up becoming really really close.
