I shook my head a little, fighting off the smile on my face.

"I'm good thanks, I'm really just here for Ganji."

Demi gave a loose shrug before shifting her weight onto her hip as she adjusted her seat. "More for me then!" She hummed happily.

Emily was lightly scolding Ganji for what I can only assume was ten minutes straight as she patched him up. And soon, he rolled off the bed and rolled his shoulder blade.

"Alright, [Name]. Let's get out of here."

"Should we send Naib in now?" I looked over at Emily, as Ganji retreated to my side. Emily looked at her wine, then at Demi, back at me with a look of total exhaustion.

".. Might as well."

Ganji nodded, his curls bouncing with the movement. "Bet, we'll go get Subedar." He adjusted his shirt collar as the two of us set off to go fetch the Mercenary.

"Poor Emily. You two must drive that poor woman insane during Christmas." I laughed lightly, not even trying to hide my smile.

Ganji scratched the corner of his eye before responding with a sharp "Well, she can deal." And before I could even answer back, I felt a tap on my shoulder. As I looked, I spotted the gorgeous Geisha.

".. Michiko? What are you doing in the Survivor Manor?" I placed my hand on my hip as I spotted the large woman. Behind her, Memory was clearly hiding behind her back and was giggling to herself.

Ganji stiffened slightly and turned around, raising an eyebrow, he didn't greet her.

She gave a timid smile as she closed her fan, dropping it into her palm.

"Hello, [name] and Ganji. I hope you two are having a wonderful Christmas.." She began, a butterfly flying around her to match her movements that were smooth and graceful. Her eyes softened towards the Batter next to me.

"Mister Gupta.. Are you alright? You're not hurt, are you?" Her accent was as sweet as milk tea and as warm as a knitted sweater. Despite the warmth in her tone, Ganji didn't loosen up.

"Don't know why you care." He tarted, crossing his arms. I sent him a quick, disapproving look... He simply scoffed and rolled his eyes.

"Uh-.. Well, um.." Michiko's voice wavered from the embarrassment of that awkward conversation before Memory sneaked out from behind her.

"Would you guys like some gingerbread? Mrs Geisha and I made it for everyone!"

So that's where Ada and Emil had their gingerbread..! Memory and Michiko were handing it out to everyone!

"I worked really hard on it! I even did the decorations!" She raised a large tray that was attached to two straps around her shoulders. The icing was messy and the gumdrops were sliding off the front of the gingerbread.

連載「時の音」Vol.23　北村道子が見据える“現在”という点

自身の哲学を貫き、今もなお第一線で活躍している北村にインタビュー。

北村道子（きたむら・みちこ） 1949年、石川県生まれ。10代の頃にサハラ砂漠やアメリカ、フランスを放浪したあと、30代でスタイリストの道へ。『スキヤキ・ウエスタン ジャンゴ』で第62回毎日映画コンクール技術賞を受賞。著書に『衣裳術《新装版》』『衣裳術 2』『衣裳術 3』がある

その時々だからこそ生まれ、同時に時代を超えて愛される価値観がある。本連載「時の音」では、そんな価値観を発信する人達に今までの活動を振り返りつつ、未来を見据えて話をしてもらう。

今回は、ファッション業界歴40年以上というスタイリストの北村道子が登場。自身の哲学を貫き、今もなお第一線で活躍している北村が見つめる先にあるものとは。

思い出すのは「記憶」

ある晴れた午後に、このインタビューは行われた。待ち合わせの場所に着くと、すでに北村道子は待っていて、「外のほうが気持ちがいいと思って」とテラス席で言った。

「そこの噴水のところにカラスがやってきて、水を飲んでいたんですよ。それをここから眺めていたんです。眺めながら『どうしてここに水を飲みにやって来たのだろう、池は他にもいっぱいあるのに』とか、『あれは子どもかな』なんて、考えていたんです」。

北村は40年以上にもわたりスタイリストとして活動し、今もなお第一線に立っている。移り変わりの激しい世界に身を置き、広告、映画、ファッションとさまざまな領域に立ってきたが、そのどこにも属するわけではない。いつだって、自分のやり方で仕事をし、哲学を貫いている。だからこそ、多くの人が彼女に引きつけられるのだろう。そして同時に、これまでの足跡に関心を抱くのだけど、本人はきっぱりと言う。「私は過去は振り返らない。振り返っ���ことがないですね」と。

「これまでのことを聞かれたら、これが私の答えってことだと思います。昔を振り返って何があるの？ 振り返ったりしたら、きっともう自分の言葉は出てこないですね。現在は点じゃないですか。だから今話したことも、もう過去になって行くんですよ。思い出すのは何かと言ったら、記憶ですよね。それは脳内の物質でしかないもの。今はみんな脳内にある社会ばかりを見ているんです。考えるって、脳内を見ているということでしょう。過去の話をするというのは、過去をリピートしているだけ。同じことをずっと繰り返して、何年も生きてしまうだけですよ。だけど、自分の脳内にあるものなんて、たかが知れているじゃないですか。リピートするだけでなく何かを発見しないと。発見によってアートが生まれるのだから。人はアートがなければ何もない生き物。あとはただお金もうけを繰り返して、そして壊れていくだけでしょう」。

次々に繰り出される言葉に耳を傾けていると、1人の人の生き方に触れている実感が押し寄せてくる。他愛もない話題から政治、文化、ファッションへと移り変わるうちに、今日はどんな取材なのか、テーマは何だったのか、この人物がどんな肩書を持つのか……というような意識はどこかに行ってしまい、ただそこにいる北村の、生身の世界に触れているように感じる。情報や記号を拾い集めて何かを理解したつもりになってしまいがちな最近の世界に生きていると、かなり新鮮な驚きと刺激に満ちた体験。取材のノートは、膨大な言葉であふれていく。

「じゃあ私が何を見ているのかって言ったら、それは目の前にある風景です。自分が見ているビジュアルこそが、私の好奇心。私はビジュアルにしか興味がないですから。そして目の前のビジュアルをずっと見ていると、その風景のことがわかってくるんですね。ああ、ここにはブナの木があるんだな。カラスがやってきた。なぜだろう？ …というふうに、自分なりの疑問を投げかけるんです。頭の中の自問自答なんだけれど。そういうことなんです、私にとって言葉や知識が生まれるというのは。仕事において自分の作品を“残す”というのも、私には違う。作品というものは目の前で生まれていて、それを私はその場で見ているんです。撮影の現場で。だから、例えば雑誌の場合なら1ヵ月後くらいに誌面になるわけですが、そこに載っているのは私にとってはもう作品じゃない。フェイクのようなもの。でもそれをフェイクとわかっていながら、ずっとやってきているんです」。

どんなトピックスに対しても、北村は必ず独自の見方を投げかける。見るたびに見方が変わる。違う視点が見つかっていくようだ。「最近だと、つい先日見た映画『TAR／ター』がおもしろかった。あれは心理学と民俗学とセクシャルというテーマを色濃く含んだ作品だと思うんです。誰もそんなことは書いてないけれど、私はそう考えているんです。本当にいろんなディスカッションができる作品でしたね」。

これまでに3冊出版されている自著『衣裳術』の中にも見つけることができる言葉だが、北村は自身の服に対する見方やスタイリングについて語る時に、「服の力」という言葉を用いる。力というのは、哲学のこと。哲学があるから、人は引きつけられる。だとしたら、私達はこの取材で「人の力」を感じていたのだと思う。「人と同じがどうもダメ。それは子どもの頃からずっと」という彼女は、「若い頃から、『どうやってこの惑星を歩こうか、歩いてみようか』と生きていた」という。

噴水にやってきたカラスに、電車の中の人々にと、ささいなことをじっと見つめて感じ取る。その小さな感性の連なりが、いつしか北村道子という人物を作り上げている。「やっているのはどれも、どうってことないことなんですよ。でも、どうってことないことを、今はみんなやらないじゃない？」。

何気ないことをおもしろがる好奇心が、コピーアンドペースト不可能な人の個性の源泉となるのだろう。スマートフォン1つあればどんな情報でも得られる世の中では、最新のファッションやカルチャーは当然のこと、もっと突き詰めればパーソナリティや思考だって、すでにできあがったものを一式手に入れることが可能になってきている。そのことに多くの人が気付き始めている今、生身の言葉や鋭いまなざしが、ひときわ強い引力を放っている。なぜなら、そこにその人ならではの温度があるから。

Misaki and Michiko Singing Together

Commissions Open I have a Ko-Fi Social Medias Characters (Michiko Hato, Misaki Hato) © @CentaurWorks Something that Michiko and Misaki use to do when they were younger is sing together, often to songs they enjoyed hearing on either radios or their music player. It soon stopped around High School as she drifted away from socializing more with her family and her Twin Sister. Now, Michiko is in a much better mental state and during a family reunion, her and Misaki decided to sing together for old-times sake once more. This was created for an art contest on VGen's Discord server. The theme was double and I could NOT pass up the opportunity to work on the Hato Twins again. It's been 6 years since I drew Misaki and I shockingly haven't drawn Michiko this year, and when it was finished, I genuinely loved it. This is the closest I've gotten to the two in a new family photo, but the very first time I had them do something together related to an old hobby. Doing lore art can feel so relieving when finished, not gonna lie. ♥

[ Unexpected Rivalry ]

A fanart that I drew for a closer friend of mine which is Adrielle Akuryo as I drew Kimiko once again but this time I drew Michiko as she is her rival by the way.

I honestly really like the design for both Kimiko and Michiko especially Michiko as I find her design to be really pleasing down through her color scheme and her personality as well. I've deicded to draw two of them but more in a familar style that you might be familar with. It took me only for a while to draw the two of them even though they're are still rivals but in a friendlier way.

I really recommend to go follow Adrielle-Akuryo as she has a ton of excellent yet fascinating art on DeviantArt and Twitter/X.

In case you couldn't tell, I really like the Phyrexians. :)

Got back into Blender for this one and learned a ton of stuff about lighting, atmosphere, fluid simulation, modeling and even a little audio editing. Those faces in the background? First time I digitally modeled something. This was even more work than the Crimson Vow one, but it really paid off.

Maybe I'll do something like that again when I forgot how much work this one was. ^^"
