just want to vent. sometimes i wonder why some fans, so hellbent on rejecting anything they deem offensive or abusive always ends up with the worst most morally corrupt characters available as their favorites: cronus, vriska, meenah.
ive got a problem with the hypocrisy people display with meenah to justify her every action. cronus flirts with karkat/eridan and insults mituna? kill him he's scum if you like crotuna kys. meenah does exactly the same and goes further beyond, actually trying to kill damara/mituna/roxy/meulin and dating 13 years olds? ugh fuck hussie my edgy blorbo gaslight gatekeep girlboss would never!!11!!!11! meendam toxic yuri 💅 mituna and meenah are bffsies 💅
no they are not motherfucker she would use him as her limousine battery while she rides to epstein island to celebrate she killed damara.
meenah is a rich tyrannical narcissist, she idolizes her genocidal adult self, has golden statues of herself, and dates vriska whose personality is similar and even grooms her to look like her. she shouldn't be rooted for, she's a villain. so what the hell do people see in her that forces them to bend over backwards to try make her a good person and give her a ooc redemption arc? and then i realize it's because they are awful superficial people too, and they feel obligated to do so due to their white guilt complex and thinking she's coded, whatever the fuck that means.
i'm not white, and so i feel downright insulted whenever these americans saviors try and explain to ME why they only associate the villains to minorities and want it to be true so desperately. id rather they be honest and say they just find her design appealing like cronus fans do than this delusional backwards shit. speaking of which, you'd be surprised to know, many on xitter really do think the amporas are pocs and trans coded too like... sure, jan. sure. lets hear why you think interpreting cronus the classist racist transtrender sex offender as black and trans is a good idea or good rep... sounds like something hs2 would do.
Gender is another factor why people treat Meenah better compared to Cronus despite they are both awful people. The whole strong badass woman and the whole 'Vriska did nothing wrong', really pushed that extreme feminist mentality that women can't do anything wrong or bad. Also, if people managed to make Vriska a TRANS REP because of a Toblerone wish despite her awful history, then there would be crazy people out there that would make someone like Amporas as POC or trans. They technically kind of did, in the sense of Eridan Ampora being non-binary for Pesterquest. Sure this fish is a racist creepy asshole, but now he's a NON-BINARY racist creepy asshole. At this point, this crazy generation only cares about the label and not the actions or personality of the characters or individuals. Anything bad a person or character has done, can be redeemed by determining what labels they have on them. Some labels are better than others, which means you gotta combine them all to make sure no one can criticize them.

Hi! i saw a lot of people ask for writing advice, and since i love your takes i figured i could ask too! I'm part of a trollswap project, and i'm in charge of writing Damara Captor, a Mage of Doom, Aradia Captor, a Maid of Doom, and Meulin Pyrope, a Mage of Mind! I'd send their designs but i don't know how to add images to asks. Any advice or ideas for any of them? :D
Oooh, exciting! I’m not very well versed with those AUs, so I’m not going to make too many judgment calls, but here are my first ideas!
Damara Captor is a straight up full-blooded cyberpunk, in my opinion. Not just aesthetically, we aren’t talking about neon-liberal, I mean politics and everything. Knows what she’s talking about, but no one tends to listen to her because she’s loud and very outwardly cynical. Her pessimism exists for a reason, though. Keeps asserting herself as the authority on fucked up shit, which can end up making her look like a bit of a bully. She’s still hurting, though. She’s a Mage of Doom, just one that tends to vent out her hurt through anger and near violent cynicism. Very kind when you get to know her, though.
Aradia Captor is an absolute doormat and tends to be a total pushover to those who assume authority. She’s a Maid of Doom. Her lack of fighting spirit probably has to do with depression, and a lot of unpacked, directionless internal turmoil. Prone to fits of emotion, similar to the Captors, but particularly ones involving everything being completely fucked. Despite her own baggage, she tends to loan herself out as a shoulder to cry on and ultimately ends up carrying everyone else’s baggage, too, until she learns how to set up proper boundaries. People might not like her when she starts enforcing those boundaries, though.
Meulin Pyrope has masks upon masks and knows exactly when to switch them around. This doesn’t mean she’s deceptive or evil, she just uses them as her own strategy of navigating life and social situations. Tends to overthink, and take things too literally, and often either critically misunderstands others or others critically misunderstand her. She’s seen as mysterious even though she’s an open book when you have any conversation with her that lasts longer than 15 minutes. It’s less that she tries to understand everything, and more that she tries to approach everything as rationally as she can based on her own experiences. What I’m getting at here is that there is a whole lot of autism stored in this beast. Mage of Mind. She has a unique understanding of and experience with Mind, and suffers because of it.
I hope this is of any help!! You don’t have to follow any of this, much less to the letter, it’s just the first things that came to mind! Have fun writing!!!

🌙⛅ Hi systemblr!! ♡ 🌙⛅
We're the Skyshift system! We're an undiagnosed (but working on it!) DID* system of around 50 alters. I'm the host, Meia!
*we're pretty sure it's DID after tons of research abt it and similar disorders. might be wrong tho, we're not professionals!
We're a very fictive-heavy system bc of a reliance on fiction as a coping mechanism, so please don't judge!
✨ general system info ✨
We've been a system since we were no older than 6, but I as the host have only been aware of it for a couple years now, since 2019.
I (Meia) am not the original host, but I've been the host from a very young age. The original host I believe integrated with myself and a traumaholder.
Most, if not all, of our mental issues stem from the childhood abuse + neglect we experienced, along with long-term isolation at a young age and csa.
We rely heavily on fiction as escapism, especially anime. Like I said earlier, that means we are very fictive-heavy. Respect that we do not choose or control who forms in our system, or how many of us are fictive or not.
💫 host + common fronters 💫
Tumblr media
💫Meia (they/them): Host! Semi-human? Formed based off of the 'magical girl' trope in anime, integrated with a shadow person alter and now I'm not entirely sure what I am. My role was originally to keep myself, the system, and the people we care about happy, or at least appear so. Now I just want everyone to be safe and enjoy themselves! You can find more about me on my carrd!
Tumblr media
🎮Alex (he/him): Main Protector + Co-host. Very chill, 'ironcially' self-proclaimed gamer, stealer of snacks. Basically like every middle school boy but he's 17-18. Usually comes out when Meia is overwhelmed or when they can't handle a situation.
Tumblr media
🌹Camelia (she/her): Primary caretaker. Does a lot of self-care, cooking, cleaning, etc when other alters can't or won't. Also helps calm alters when they're not doing well. Very caring and soft. Cottagecore lesbian vibes- really likes flowers!
Tumblr media
💋Juniper (she/any): S*xual alter/protector. Can change gender depending on what someone is attracted to, but is female by default. Proud thot. Will front for sexual situations, voluntary or no. She was formed to be able to enjoy even the horrible involuntary things we endured.
⛅ other notable alters ⛅

okay humanstuck thoughts under the cut
i owe a lot of this to @/rhythmic-idealist's kankri/vantasposting bc holy shit theyve got such a big brain (ill link to their individual posts when im on desktop since im using this to keep all my thoughts straight and i agree with most of what they say wholeheartedly)
general status quo stuff:
signless works in an extremely demanding career involving helping others (i'm leaning towards an attorney who works with organizations and does pro bono work), and is also extensively involved in social justice work outside of his job... he is very rarely home
he loves and cares for his children deeply and tries to express it whenever they're face to face, but the couch in his cramped and messy office has seen far too much use over the years for him to have been able to say it enough
his habits of working himself to the point of exhaustion are handily passed down to his kids btw
the kids had to grow up quickly because signless was out of the house so often and so consistently—kankri, who was already pretty high-strung, has to learn to take care of himself and karkat
they grow up near ms firuzeh maryam, who's their pseudoaunt/grandma (she took in a nine year old kavana vantas when she was about twenty), but they just call her ms rosa
they spent a lot of time in the maryam house growing up, with miss rosa's two nieces. porrim is a year older than kankri, while kanaya and karkat are the same age
kankri grows kinda sensitive to people trying to mother him since it rubs against the notion that he's the "adult of the house" and that he can take care of himself and karkat just fine
(and it also kinda underlines the fact that kankri has no idea what he's doing at the best of times)
and ironically enough, kankri becomes overbearing and naggy towards karkat in his own right, which forestalls them becoming close in any brotherly sort of way
they grow up really just... unable to communicate with one another clearly
karkat develops his ornery exterior in response to kankri's constant stream of opinions and frantic attempts at making up for the presence of a guardian in the house
i think there would actually be some really interesting parallels with rose in this au.. maybe i'm drawing from my own experiences as well but i think he'd begin to assume that every time his brother opens his mouth, he's going to criticize karkat
but instead of reacting like rose with the "making yourself more of a puzzle"/passive aggressive stuff, he gets a more defensive/hackles raised/"argue with you before you can argue with me" approach
and the thing is that they do love each other and would take a bullet for the other etc etc etc.. but they don't know how to express it because they've fallen into these shitty patterns
and it really doesn't help that kankri has grown somewhat resentful of signless over the years... that mix of resentment and fear and love gets more extreme and more polar every time signless gets injured during a political demonstration
i think kankri and signless would also be slightly closer than karkat and signless, as signless' job really only started to ramp up when karkat was less than years old and kankri was in his early double digits
kankri autistic btw its word of god (i am god)
karkat has a pet crab. its name is also karkat. he vents his frustrations to it.
i feel like the vantases exemplify both the best and worst parts of their aspects with one another as well... the strength of their bonds keeps them together and grounded, but TOO grounded. [insert Blood rant here]
the Blood rant:
i define Blood as bonds, responsibility, and the "core". if Life is the fertile soil and everything living on a planet's surface, then Blood is the gravitational core of the planet keeping everything together
i also think Blood, Heart, & Mind work in tandem to define a person just as blood serves to connect the pieces of the human body... Heart is the soul and the self, Mind is the application of one's self through active choices (agency), while Blood defines both the self and the choices one makes in greater detail [and, as an aside, Life provides the physical spark of life needed to keep the heart pumping blood]
OKAY wow that got tangential anyways
SO BASICALLY! too much Blood makes you stagnate, so for example:
kankri is split between staying home with karkat or going to college across the country and being truly unbound for the first time in years
another crisis of Blood: signless is caught between his empathy and responsibility to the whole world and his responsibility to his own children
okay so here's more status quo stuff:
the maryam and vantas kids grow up together and its hilarious because you'll see them all together and its just like (girlboss) (girlboss) (physical manlet) (emotional manlet)
the maryam girls are actually miss rosa's nieces but she took them in when they were both pretty young
the pyropes know the vantases well enough considering pyrope senior and sign have known one another from their respective legal practices for years, but they live on the other side of town
the leijons lived in town when kankri and meulin were very young, but they moved and travelled for a long time before coming back and reestablishing their roots
the captors (psii being one of sign's oldest and closest friends) move into town with the peixes family pretty early on though
the condesce is.. a horrible spouse and guardian, to put it plainly. she's very emotionally manipulative and isn't averse to smacking people around, including her own family. she moves herself and her perfect little family into town so she can properly oversee a new business venture close by
feferi is one of the best young swimmers in the country and has a pretty good shot of getting onto the olympic team.. a lot of this drive to be perfect and to be better results from the condesce's unrelenting pressure and thinly veiled resentment throughout her whole life
so yeah psii, )(ic, feferi, and sollux all live together and it's really not great for anyone involved. (meenah ran away years ago, and crashed on aranea's couch for a pretty long while—mituna moved out with latula for college before psii and the condesce got married)
it gets bad to the point of sollux staying with the maryams for two months while the adults try to sort out that absolute clusterfuck and get the divorce proceedings going (meenah finally convinces feferi to get out and come stay with her and aranea for the duration as well)
in terms of relationships i think latula and porrim were really really close in high school, and probably had some kind of unacknowledged thing going on for a while that never actually turned into anything because latula and mituna were going steady
kankri has had a crush on latula for years but never acted on it for similar reasons
meenah still carries a lot of that give no fucks attitude (it's developed moreso as a defense mechanism here) and can't understand why feferi refuses to leave the condesce with her
okay back to VANTAS MANPAIN i also think that karkat feels the weight of a lot of expectations on his shoulders as well
he feels responsible to live up to the example his dad and his brother set, even if it's to his own detriment—and kankri's oblivious rambling about his grades and his teachers and all his clubs certainly aren't helping the matter
kankri is one of those overinvolved kids taking a million AP's while simultaneously shitting on the collegeboard at every single step
hes this super overachiever anal retentive perfectionist type dude and (just as karkat preemptively criticizes others to forestall their criticisms of him only to harshly criticize himself) kankri subconsciously holds the people around him to the same expectations he holds for himself
so karkat also develops this sense of lacking which, in combination with everything else, culminates in self loathing and thinking he has to solve everyone else's problems and getting horribly mad at himself for every little mistake
GOD i have a lot more but lemme post this before i accidentally close out of the app and lose it all
more little details:
vriska's mom and terezi's mom HATE each other like HATE HATE HATE one another it's so bad
karkat wrote a ten page review of my immortal in middle school
jade is one of nepeta's best online friends
sollux can't raise one eyebrow at a time.. karkat gives him so much grief about it
the vantases eat a lot of shitty renditions of persian dishes until karkat learns to cook because literally the only person in the world with a CHANCE of getting KANKRI VANTAS to make an EDIBLE DISH is miss rosa
kanaya is really good at persian dance too but is VERY VERY embarassed to perform in front of people.. however porrim definitely is not
karkat has insomnia while kankri just stays up stupidly late for assignments that really shouldnt be taken that seriously.. but they both have the same rumination/sleep anxiety thing where your brain goes insane with horrible and depressing scenarios as you try to sleep
and more ideas that i thought were interesting but idk how to fit in the context of this au:
signless and disciple getting married pretty late in life after having been in love for years, the vantases move in with the leijons and karkat suddenly has two sisters
nepeta and karkat are both juniors at this point, meulin is probably in her third year at a local college nearby while kankri is about to start his second year at a university pretty far away
the kids in general honestly but ill figure it out
more random hcs this time with kids:
kanaya and rose get into a flame war online that gradually settles into elaborate courtship rituals
also nepeta + jade online besties
also bec can inexplicably still teleport
the first sbahj movie comes out and the next six months of dave strider junior's high school career are absolute hell
actually hc that dave senior goes by d strider professionally. the d stands for a lot of things
aradia and dave frequent a lot of the same forums but never end up really interacting
meanwhile karkat and john frequent a lot of the same forums and DEFINITELY end up interacting. this turns into grudging (at least on karkat's part) friendship after they find themselves fighting for their lives defending an objectively shitty movie together on the same thread

what's up guess who still reads homestuck in this, the year of our lord, 2020. anyway here's every homestuck character in Among Us (under the cut because i do mean every character)
John: happy-go-lucky, way too trusting. always goes off to do his tasks immediately, is usually completely oblivious to who might be an imposter. pretty good as imp, just because no one suspects him right away, but if you pay attention he never tries to fake any tasks
Rose: makes strategic use of cams/admin table to achieve her goals, but due to this can be slow to complete her tasks. tends to filibuster the vote just because she types so much during meetings, but uses this to her advantage when she's imp to avoid getting voted out
Dave: also prefers to concentrate on tasks, but is way more observant than john. if he's sus of someone he'll follow them around to see if they're faking tasks. similar to rose, gets distracted in meetings coming up with raps instead of paying attention
Jade: likes to use the buddy system, but she'll carry it over between games so sometimes it makes her an easy target. will hang out in greenhouse/o2 when she's done with tasks. her gut sus feelings are pretty accurate in meetings, is a good imp but tries to avoid killing friends
Aradia: dgaf if she gets killed right away, will finish tasks then follow people around the map. if she’s haunting someone as a ghost they tend to get killed soon after. as imp she’s an impulse killer, but usually has pretty good timing so she doesn’t get caught in the act
Tavros: also task-focused, uses one of the little pets. has a hard time asserting himself in meetings, so even if he saw the kill he might not get around to accusing. regular victim of the imp pinning the blame on him. you can tell when he’s imposter because he gains Self Esteem
Sollux: ‘doesn’t play games for wiigglers’, but when he does he almost always wins. favors sabotages as imp, will use them to avoid meetings and get another kill. buddies up with the other imposter to get double kills, but will vote them out if they get caught
Karkat: adopts the loudest = rightest strategy in meetings. can usually be seen telling everyone to do their tasks and stop fucking around. not bad as imp, but gets flustered if someone accuses him out of the blue. sometimes gets voted out just so people don’t have to read his rants
Nepeta: master stalker, will vent kill with ruthless efficiency. always buddies up with equius, but will kill him and >:33c about it without mercy if she gets imp. draws fanart of the trolls as their among us avatars
Kanaya: precision killer, she’s slow but always makes absolutely sure she won’t get caught. extremely efficient at tasks, she’ll check on people’s visual tasks to see if they’re crew. will encourage tavros to type in meetings if he has something to say
Terezi: supreme detective, though sometimes she can get confused if her screen is too blurry. types a lot during meetings, but she’s always working around to an accusation (whether she’s imp or crew). big fan of sabotaging lights to get kills
Vriska: loud, bossy, forces votes. another impulse killer, if she gets caught killing she’ll bluster or point fingers to avoid getting accused. will randomly sabotage to throw people off. usually the one talking over tavros. has a 100% winrate if she gets imp with terezi
Equius: efficient as crew, but horrible as imp. never kills nepeta or anyone higher on the hemospectrum than him. won’t even vote them out even if he knows they’re the imp (gets too sweaty, has to find a towel, and will miss the vote)
Gamzee: will get distracted listening to game sounds or staring at the animations. if there are only a few tasks left to win, it’s a safe bet they’re his. (off sopor, he’s a ruthless killer that heavily favors venting, and is very good at deflecting blame onto someone else)
Eridan: no one likes to play with him because he always tries to turn it into some weird blackrom flirting. is a pretty good imp, but not very careful about getting caught because it’s ‘his right as a seqdwweller’. another one that gets voted out on principle (due to creepiness)
Feferi: just excited to be here, great team player. as imp she’ll kill people if she thinks they’re not doing their tasks fast enough. will apologize for kills in ghost chat if she gets voted off. almost never sabotages, but if she does it’s always one of the crises
Jane: hit-or-miss detective, good at putting cluse together but will take what people say at face value. can be pretty bossy, but you can tell if she’s imp because she doesn’t tell people to finish tasks. will vote someone out if she thinks they’re not working fast enough
Jake: like john will focus solely on tasks and be oblivious to imposters. unlike john, is bad at imp; gets stuck in his own head pretending to be a character from a movie and either doesn’t pay attention to people or forgets to do tasks. always surprised by kills, even his own
Roxy: as crew uses the buddy system, but as imp is absolutely ruthless; trust them at your own risk. great at distracting people in meetings by typing very fast. will accuse on instinct just to see what kind of reaction people have, very reliable about fixing sabotages
Dirk: another big talker, but no one ever gets what he’s talking about. sometimes gets distracted by watching cams and will forget to do tasks. is a good killer as imp, but his real specialty is getting people to think it’s someone else (either with accusations or with confusion)
Damara: completely chaotic, randomly won’t do tasks and will just follow people around. sometimes doesn’t even report bodies
Rufioh: good at encouraging crew, but pretty shy at killing. will usually skip vote if he’s imp, but is an accurate voter when crew
Mituna: single-minded focus on either tasks or killing. will ignore most sabotages, prefers to be alone unless he’s around latula
Kankri: doesn’t play as the game enforces harmful stereotypes about blood castes, culling, ableism, death, space travel, aliens, etc.
Meulin: always partnered with Kurloz, like nepeta is an excellent imp but can be distractable as crew. sometimes forgets to type during meetings
Porrim: extremely good at tracking what people are doing, will call out imposters that try to fake tasks, is Here for the Drama
Latula: runs around a lot, does tasks randomly, will follow mituna around to keep an eye on him, revenge kills imps that killed him earlier
Aranea: big talker, though she’ll get cut off by meenah. will buddy up to do tasks, but is also good at helping the other imp by sabotaging
Horuss: honestly pretty average, sometimes he wins and sometimes he loses. tends to ignore chat from those lower on the hemospectrum
Kurloz: never talks, seems to appear randomly around the map even if he can’t vent. usually hanging around meulin, even if one of them is the imp and the other is crew
Cronus: no one likes to play with him because he’s annoying, a creep, and an ass. usually voted off first on principle
Meenah: chaotic killer, will target one person then follow them around. doesn’t like doing tasks, but can be hassled into it by aranea. impulse votes in meetings
Calliope: helpful, full of headcanons, buddies up with Roxy. ifa  lot of people are talking she’ll stay quiet, but has a lot of opinions and advice if asked. absolutely abysmal at imp (pre-scratch self is quieter, a solo player, and extremely good as imp)
Caliborn: loud, annoying, rage quits, tries to cheat. very easy to tell when he’s imp because he’ll act all superior in chat. gets voted out and banned a lot.
Dad: are ya winnin son
Bec, Halley, GCAT, Vodka Mutini, Jaspers, Maplehoof, Seppucrow: they are just leetol bebbies
Colonel Sassacre: doesn’t know what a computer is
Serenity: amazing player, but no one understands blinking
Liv Tyler: also amazing player, but doesn’t talk at all so no one understands
Itcy, Die, Cans: don’t really get it, but ok at killing
The Mayor, AR, CD, Doze, Sawbuck, Eggs, Biscuits, Ms. Paint, consorts, Squarewave: don’t really get it, but ok at tasks
PM, WK, HB, Trace, Fin, Matchsticks, Quarters: decent players
WQ, DD, Clover, Crowbar, Snowman/BQ, Stitch, Sawtooth: actually really good players
Jack/Spades Slick: only interested in killing
Doc Scratch: insufferably omniscient, wouldn’t play even if someone wanted him to
Andrew Hussie: probably plays among us irl

Aspect Analysis for the J&H boys (Novel)(Hyde is not a separate entity during this):
Summary:
Jekyll: Aspect-Heart player; Lunar Sway- Prospit
Utterson: Aspect- Doom player; Lunar Sway- Derse
Lanyon: Aspect- Void player; Lunar Sway- Prospit
Analysis down below for better reasoning and to save the non-homiestucks the trouble. (These are just basic stuff I pointed out).
Jekyll: Heart
Why:
-Splintered himself into two selves (a common trait of heart players (except for Meulin but we barely know much about her, Nepeta role played, Dirk had a robot version of himself along with alt dirk in hstuck2 and mind dirk made by Jake)
-I wouldn't say mind (sorry hekyll) since those in the mind aspect aren't too concerned with how others perceive them, Jekyll himself is so concerned with how others view him that even even splits himself into two so that he can Hyde a version of himself.
-Despite being a scientist and splitting his neurology, he does a lot of things driven by feeling or in the moment, especially as Hyde, which he says is his true self (doped up on extra drugs of course). He exudes irrationality as he declares to Utterson that he can get rid of Hyde whenever he wants and absolutely refuses to speak to him any more on the matter.
-Extremely passionate in his science where he was willing to test upon himself without thinking much of reperccussions (i'm sure he factored in the possibility of death but what did he expect to happen to his body when he died? He had his will written up and planned the possibility of being stuck as Hyde after the transformation but after a while of bad things it makes you think that he didn't truly think ahead of what would happened if he stayed as Hyde, knowing all the things he had done. Friendships Relations, his position in society. How prepared was he to be disliked by everyone, including his friends and the society. His decisions were in the moment while he was on the high of being "evil".)
Lunar Sway: Prospit
Why: Jekyll didn't entirely care what happened to himself when he drank HJ-7. He saw it's effects and analyzed them in the moment, not thinking of the consequences of his actions too much until it became problematic (when he started changing without the concoction). He co-exists with society as he doubles himself, being the sweet dr. jekyll by day and rebellious Mr Hyde at nights, keeping a good persona of himself while he is able to release steam at another time as another person who he won't have to face the consequences as. He uses Hyde as a safety net so he doesn't experience the consequences of his actions, sumilar to prospit player. He isn't fighting against the system, he is working with the system in his own way. Worries about how others would perceive him, even those close to him.
Similar derse aspects he shows would be living in a constant state of dissatisfaction, shown when he drinks HJ-7 and fuels the bad within him, and is able to keep a good hiding of his true self from others but at the same time, the irony of it is that he couldn't hide his true self due to HJ-7 forcing his transformations. He doesn't entirely lock his true self away either with the transformations under control, he goes out as his true self thereby exposing it to the world. A dersite wouldn't show that side to anyone even strangers. Another derse shown thing is
-He is more a problem maker than problem solver as his next mode of action of getting out of his Hyde situation is killing himself and before that, locking himself away until the inevitable took him.
-When he's shown, he is quite optimistic (especially when he came to the conclusions how Hyde may affect him) and cheerful (y'know, until he wasn't)
Utterson: Doom
Why: Unable to change things, could only provide advice for Jekyll and despite trying to help Jekyll it all goes down hill. He couldn't prevent his friend's downfall.
-Utterson is forced to suffer with knowing the secret of his friend, along with having those closest to him (long time friends) all die.
-Those in the doom aspect don't have much of a choice with what happens and are more of a "vent to" type of person. (He was there when Lanyon was dying and had conversation with him, he attempted to get him to open up and talk to Jekyll but Lanyon is stubborn and all right refuses to even talk about him.)
-He was the of narrator of the story, reading out the gradual downfall of the scenario (common trait i notice of doom players). Despite interacting with the characters, his actions had not influenced the decisions of his friends, and had the least impact. When breaking into the lab, Jekyll had already planned to end his life due to his inability to face the consequences of his actions.
- He is also a lawyer, holding Jekyll's will (and others) which means he was holding onto papers of plans for people's inevitable deaths.
-(True Headcannon on the extended zodiac website also describes Doom players as wise, kind on non-judgemental which are traits Utterson has displayed throughout the book.)
Lunar Sway: Derse
Why: Reasons (I was literally going to just put this here but I went “no, I love this guy too much to do that” and so i did it)
- A bit of a skeptic as to Hyde's realtionship to Jekyll.
- Thinking about information from the past (like the will) and outlooks of the future (is Hyde blackmailing Jekyll).
- Has a hard time letting go of the Hyde issue despite Jekyll trying to reassure him and telling him to drop it.
- He's quite shy but was willing to confront Hyde for the betterment of his friend.
- He kind of did that "entered a person's place without permission" like twice.
- Lawyer peeps abide by the rules, sure. But they are more focused on finding the truth for their client in the court of law, or preventing them from being arrested to the best of their abilities.
- Introversion is a common trait of derse peeps, and as far as i am concerned (and read), that man is not extroverted in the slightest.
-I think they would look nice in the dark purple, can you blame me? (my utterson already has purple eyes, it just fits owo)
Lanyon:
Classpect: Void ( he avoids the situation haha)
Why: Despite the disruptions occuring around Jekyll, Lanyon preferred to have stayed away from all of it, not caring much about it due to his feelings towards it. He kept the Hyde thing a secret from Utterson until Jekyll died or went missing. A secret he was willing to take with him to his grave.
-While Utterson was trying to seek the truth, Lanyon didn't want to even think about it.
- Quote from Headcannon aspect: "At their best, Void-bound are wise, intuitive, and vibrant. At their worst they can be dismissive, indecisive, and apathetic.”
- During his introduction, Lanyon displayed vibrance and his warmth, he is wise (he's a doctor after all) enough to decide when to cut himself from negativity but that also adds to the negative aspects of the void player (we see more of the negatives than the positive with him) where he is apathetic towards the downfall of his friend, not even willing to make amends as he was dying (well it was Jekyll's fault that he is dying, can you really blame the guy?)
- He let the curiousity get the best of him in wondering what Hyde wanted to with those chemicals (leading to his mental trauma lmao).
- Not much is really heard about or from Lanyon through out the book, except from some plot points.
Lunar Sway: Prospit
Why:
Tumblr media
(I got lazy by Lanyon but I think it fits him; both Jekyll and Lanyon have similar personalities despite the difference in interests. Jekyll might be more collected and repressed though)

Dialectic Identity? Thoughts on Fozzer, the Page of Heart:
OK this is gonna be shorter than Marvus obvs but Fozzer DID give me a good amount to think about, so here goes
Tumblr media
Fozzer outright identifying as a dialectical materialist is exciting for a couple reasons. There’s a lot one could say about dialectics and Paradox Space in general (I’ve been trying to write that script for about a year) but here I want to focus on the Materialist half of that, because it immediately reminded me a lot of @arrghus’ idea of the notional/material divide between aspects.
Ever since the Extended Zodiac, we’ve been wondering if the way the Aspect wheel is laid out might suggest some relationships between Aspects, either original to Homestuck, mirroring the relationships the Signs share in the traditional Zodiac wheel, or some combination of both.
Arrghus’ essay series proposes a model for how those relationships might work, at least in part. I’d suggest checking it out for the full picture, but here I want to focus on the divide I find clearest and most compelling: That between the Ideal/Notional Aspects and the Material/Physical ones.
Tumblr media
The gist is this: The top five Aspects (Mind, Hope, Breath, Life, and Light) are more closely aligned with the World of Ideas, and so those bound to them tend to be more concerned with the ideal, abstract, and imaginary. The bottom five (Void, Doom, Blood, Rage, and Heart) are more closely tied to the material, physical, and real.
If you’ve seen my prior writing on Homestuck, you might note that this dovetails easily with Gnosticism’s old cosmology of reality as divided between an imaginary world of Light and a physical world of Darkness. That said, this isn’t a hard binary--Blood obviously refers to some concepts as well as physical experience, and Breath obviously links to some things that happen in physicality, even if those elements are by definition elusive and insubstantial.
Space and Time are an even split, as much conceptual law to be deciphered as they are physical element of reality to be experienced. It could well be that this reflects most strongly in the perspectives those Bound to each Aspect are given to, as opposed to an underlying reality of the Aspects themselves, and in any case all twelve Aspects are necessary to describe a full picture of reality.
Tumblr media
One of the most exciting possibilities this model raises for me is the idea of Aspect “Mirroring”, which is essentially a different kind of relationship Aspects can have. Aspects that are Mirror each other vertically, for example, might express the same ideas through the filter of the Ideal vs. the Material--reflecting the hermetic/magical principle of “As above, so below”.
Heart and Light are a pretty good way to express the relationship between vertically mirrored Aspects, as it turns out. Consider:
In Gnosticism, “Light” refers to directly to Information/Ideas, as the world of Light is the world of the imaginary. This is where “Platonic Ideals” live--the perfect imaginary version of any object, from which all physical manifestations of that object are derived.
Humanity gains the ability to access this world, the self-aware conciousness necessary to think, when the Goddess of Wisdom Sophia descends from that realm and imbues us with her Light--the light of curiosity, of wisdom, of the power to know. The light of the soul.
In this way, we can think of the Soul--the Heart--of living beings as their inner Light, expressed throughout their lives in the realm of physicality. And we can think of Light/Ideas as abstract concepts, that can only enter reality proper through the doorways created by the self-expression of individuals, as enabled by their soul.
Tumblr media
There are a lot of ideas and concepts that Dirk’s soul seems consistently inclined to express onto reality. The shades, the concept of “being a Bro”, the idea of the Hard Anime Dude, Stoicism, the pervasive homoeroticism innate to the Greek ideals he’s generally shaped by, etc.
The clearest example of this might be his sword, which is itself a physical object seemingly ripped directly out of the “fake” (read: imaginary) world of anime. An idea, made physical, through the sheer expression of will manifested by Dirk’s soul.
This is what makes his katana so powerful:
It’s quite near to being a physical expression of our collective idea of the “Perfect Sword”, much like Bro sets an impossible ideal of “Perfect Manhood” that Dave wrestles with living up to. This might give you an idea of some of the more direct ways Heart’s conceptual toolbox could be exploited or weaponized.
The point here is that just expressing the idea of a “Bro” is extremely important to Dirk, and expressing the idea of “Cats” is similarly important to Nepeta and Meulin.
Tumblr media
In the same way, Fozzer seems like an acutely intense expression of a political Persona. A philosophical idea, expressed in the physical world as an intense commitment to an associated identity. His shovel is an expression of that identity, much the same way Dirk’s katana or Nepeta’s claws are expressions of theirs.
But then again, Fozzer’s identity ain’t exactly stable, is it?
Tumblr media
Before we talk about The Thing That Happens, we should note that as much as Fozzer seems to genuinely believe in his communist philosophy, he mostly seems interested in it as a means for self-expression, rather than an actual political movement with direct goals and results he’s looking to achieve.
Tumblr media
And even though he’s very intense and earnest about it, Fozzer seems inclined to exploit his own identity in somewhat self-serving ways. Unintentionally or no, he more or less uses his ideological speechifying to conscript the Reader into doing work for him, therefore inviting the reader to Serve him through Heart, for Fozzer’s own benefit.
Tumblr media
This, coupled with his strongly noted cowardice, leads me to consider him a Page. But my real point here is that even if a lot of us here on Tumblr find Fozzer’s ideology appealing, Fozzer seems less invested in ideology proper than with the identity it comes with--and even here, Fozzer isn’t exactly being portrayed as unambiguously Good and Correct.
Even if he’s preferable to the alternative. Sigh.
Let’s talk about the thing.
Tumblr media
[WORLDBUILDING INTERMISSION]
So the biggest surprise of this friendsim was that we stumbled onto what’s basically a swell of Scratch energy just...hanging out under Absence Park, apparently?
Which is. A lot. This energy resets our conversation with Fozzer and changes his personality, which we’ll get into in a minute, but first I want to speculate: How the hell does this thing exist at all, and what does it even mean? There’s a couple of possibilities.
Since this is essentially Time-coded Scratch energy we’re dealing with, @blindrapture pointed out that it could have something to do with the Handmaid, which I’d expand to include Lord English--and though I doubt it’s directly linked to Scratch himself, since he’s not too associated with Time the way the former two are, he may be aware of or able to use this...”glitch” in reality.
It’s also possible this is a natural consequence of a Scratch, and pockets of leftover Scratch energy like these are present in some locations of Post-Scratch worlds. For that matter, it could be a consequence of John’s retcon powers, which act like the scratch in some ways and might have had consequences we don’t yet fully understand.
Tumblr media
Finally, given the language, I suspect that the hole in Absence Park is actually just a hole into the Void, leading to the Furthest Ring, much like Roxy’s windows. This Scratch energy seems to have entered the Furthest Ring, and is presumably writhing there until circumstances allow it to vent out through this particular entrance to reality.
What are the implications? Who knows. If this is a hole into the Void, then this is another avenue through which Hiveswap’s cast might be able to exit Alternia and find a new world.
If the Scratch outbursts are recurring enough, then we have at least one way for our heroes to “Time Travel” and basically save scum to try and achieve optimal desires results, like saving a troll friend who gets killed by going back in time for example.
That’s probably the biggest takeaway to me, because having a way to time travel built into Hiveswap’s text already makes me that much more sure that no matter what kind of carnage and brutality our beloved troll friends get subjected to, we’re ultimately headed towards a happy ending where probably nobody dies-- I can reasonably see the possibility that even antagonistic figures like Ardata and even Trizza could be saved, under these circumstances.
Ok back to Fozzer.
Tumblr media
So the thing about “Post-Scratch” Fozzer is that I feel he’s being dismissed somewhat due to his admittedly unsavory politics. This still strikes me as a very genuine and direct expression of Fozzer’s Classpect inclinations.
Fozzer is still taking a very materialist view of reality here, for example--he’s interested in the actual physical history of how this system evolved, and considers understanding that history necessary to understanding society.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And however he disagrees with you, his instinctual response is the same. He storms off after verbally thrashing the Reader, but its interesting that he does it the same way both times: By imposing identities onto the Reader. Hilariously, Fozzer is unwittingly owning alternate versions of himself, too, and unwittingly inviting self-owns is basically the core of the Knight/Page aesthetic.
So really, Fozzer’s core personality is much the same--what’s taken place is a binary flip in the persona he relates to the world with. In one reality, he conveys the ideas of the hopeful revolutionary underclass.
In the other, he projects the identity of a happy and willing member for the Empire’s war-machine--the joyful slave, the pain of his own exploitation cushioned by a strong sense of societal purpose and identity. Note how the shovel easily parses as a strong symbol of this identity, too--a triumphant tool with which to serve the empire, rather than an ironic symbol of oppression.
I don’t think we should be hasty in assuming one Fozzer is more real than the other, even if we’re inclined to like one of them more. Especially since Fozzer works in Absence Park and seems familiar with these lights, meaning these scratch shifts might have been happening to him for a while.
The two Fozzers give us a fascinating window into the nuances of Heart, and indeed we’ve been told this sort of splintering of self can be common to the Heartbound by Calliope. Their opposing ideologies present us with a self-contained dialectic, in fact.
A dialectic at its core is a search for truth carried out by contrasting and comparing two diametrically opposed ideas, which in Hegel’s dialetic at least are defined as the Thesis and Anti-Thesis, respectively.
In Hegel’s understanding of the term, we can only truly understand an individual idea (say: Fozzer) by examining the tensions and similarities between these two opposed perspectives.
And these tensions are usually resolved not by one winning out over the other, but by achieving a Synthesis that combines he best traits of both.
Tumblr media
Maybe because of that, I find the fact that we can only “win” by embracing the “Happy Slave” Fozzer unnerving. It’s hard to say how Fozzer’s path will evolve going forward, but given how central the idea of conflicting opposites is to his expression of his Classpect, I highly doubt we’ve seen the last of “Comrade” Fozzer.
So, I guess we’ll just have to see how it goes?
[Closing disclaimer: I’m not entirely sure how different Marxism’s Dialectic Materialist approach is from Hegel’s Dialectics. For instance, I’m unsure if it also uses the “Thesis”, “Anti-Thesis”, “Synthesis” model Hegel describes, or if I’m accidentally mixing the two.
@gamblignant8 on the Perfectly Generic Podcast described Dialectic Materialism as being Hegel’s Dialectic applied with a focus on physical reality, mixed with an analysis of humanity’s historical evolution on the physical plain.
Cursory Wikipedia research seems to bear this out, with Marx even describing Dialectic Materialism as simply the opposite of Hegel’s more philosophical and idealistic take on the idea, which Marx regarded as full of “Mysticism”. As a Hopebound more comfortable with the ideal than the material myself, I suppose its no surprise I find Hegel’s dialectics more immediately approachable and comfortable, for now.
What I’m saying here is, take everything I’ve written about dialectic materialism here with a grain of salt: I’m trying to do my homework and make sure I have the facts straight, but it turns out philosophy can get hard to sum up, especially when you’re trying to reconcile it with a fantasy metaphysics system. Feel free to clarify if I’ve messed details up. ]
