Goin thru your aquarium au tag and i saw a bunch of asks about mama/aizawa but do you have any thoughts and/or art for izuku hanging out with his dad toshinori? Yagi found the sweet seahorse, i bet hes sooo attached and probably spends more time with izuku than aizawa does (his job permitting ofc).

Yagi as a marine biologist definitely spends more time in the back with the tanks than Aizawa does so he spends the most time with Izuku. Yagi is the one who is constantly keeping an eye on the mer so they are the closest, but its a special treat whenever another staff member plays with him.

even after Izuku can dry out he is constantly following Yagi everywhere. to the point that the guests think that Yagi is a single father that brings his son to work.

Were yoichi and afo born cealicia or did someone kidnap them too?

This is a very interesting question. It's so interesting that I will make up a backstory for them on the spot. This backstory might not be fic canon if I change my mind later. But I think it's way more interesting if Yoichi and AFO were snatched instead of born Cecaelia:

AFO and Yoichi were mer princes. A Cecaelia kidnapped the crown prince. Yoichi probably got grabbed because AFO was clinging to him too tightly to let go. They both got turned into Cecaelia.

Third was a mer royal guard looking for the missing princes and that's how he met Yoichi.

AFO started a war after he realized he was the rightful heir to the throne. The mer were not willing to let him rule, which in all fairness was only partly because he was a Cecaelia. AFO had a bad rep by that point. And everyone knew that AFO did not view mer as equals or himself as a mer. He would not have been a kind king. Furthermore the other Cecaelia planned to use this to control the kingdom, as they intended when they grabbed AFO in the first place.

Yoichi got a handful of memories back. That and brotherly spite led him to side with the mer, then later give them his ruby.

The old royal line died out with Yoichi and AFO, and the noble Yagi family took the throne. The Yagis are only distantly related to AFO. It's such an interesting idea that I may replace my original idea for the Cecaelia war with this one. It also adds a new level to AFO's hatred for the current royal family if he views them as usurpers. And Izuku could resemble Yoichi because they are distant cousins. Everything fits!

That's... a surprisingly accurate accusation. Toshinori can see how a traumatized mer like Shouta can come to such a conclusion.

The crew turned back to their chatter, all of them going about their tasks with a renewed vigor. All of them were excited by the prospect of their new prey, and she was no exception.

Shouto quietly joined her at the helm, pausing for a moment before he rolled out his map. He flicked her ear unexpectedly, and Momo covered it with a hand, despite the flick not hurting very much. She cast him a questioning glance.

“You're missing an earring,” he said.

“Oh,” Momo said, dropping her hand as a grin crept across her face. “A surprisingly crafty mer stole it from me. I think I ought to get it back, don't you?”

“In that case,” he said, as he finally spread out his maps, “I better chart your course.”

Momo is a pirate, pursuing a treasure. Izuku is a mer, protecting his heart. They meet each other somewhere in the middle.

A fellow researcher who specializes in anatomy and identification who often travels with her father as his assistant

She tries to keep her distance from Kirishima, Bakugo, and Shouto on principle (she knows what happened with Stain and lowkey doesn't want to have every member of the Yagi family fall for mer...)

This doesn't work, Kirishima is too friendly and a snuggler (she gets dragged into platonic cuddles, sometimes as Ururaka's plus one/safe guard)

Toshinori is at least calm about Nanori being here, he doesn't like how bluntly she talks about mating cycles and identifying which mer can be fluid in their role for the sake of reproducing

He has walked into way too many awkward conversations at the absolute worst time to the point that he will text Nanori to see where she is before leaving an area of the research center (this never happened in other centers before...)

She gets along fine with everyone, just a little distant and focused on her research to truly socialize

Izuku is a seahorse! Like when he's born he's a tiny baby with a cute tail, but he must be in the water until he's a bit older so that his gills can develop and he can breathe on land.

- this is a modern mer au without quirks.

- Yagi Toshinori a marine biologist with Musutafu Aquatic Preservation and Aquarium, goes for a walk along a beach that his organization was cleaning up when he spots something in the bank.

- in bout of curiosity and confusion he goes to check it out.

- and nestled in the sand between some trash, at first looks to be a seahorse, untill he looks a bit closer and see's that there seems to be a humanoid torso on the body of a seahorse.

- it is so small. Somewhere along five inches long and it looks like an infant.

- Yagi makes some calls and are able to safely transport the creature to the preservation without any fanfare.

- the facility decides to keep the child secret and waits to see how they will respond to their new environment and if they are healthy.

- they discover that the mer is male and is only a month or two old.

- they name him Izuku and the lil mer imprints on them all rather quickly.

- Izuku lives in the preservation center away from public eye.

- while Izuku is a seahorse, they discovered as he gets older that he is an omnivore.

- Izuku can also swim surprisingly faster than a normal seahorse should!

- everyone at the facility are extremely fond of Izuku too!!

- unbeknownst to them, Hisashi(afo) an adult seahorse mer on the outer banks of Musutafu is freaking out over the loss of his only guppy after a storm!!

Wow, I was expecting something like this for the ending, but somehow, I got nicely surprised anyway!

So, Cecaelia are not fully extinct eh?

For one second, I thought AFO was actually the last one. Good thing that was not truth.

Anyway, I am surprised he did not tried to have a family or something with a female Cecaelia since he lost his brother and is so alone. But maybe not even other cecaelia liked him?

Do Cecaelia have like a bunch of babies out of a bunch? Because Izuku was very tiny, and as far as I know, octopus like almost any other fish species, have like a lot of babies so the species has a bigger chance of surviving.

Also... are cecaelia better at magic that mermaids?

AFO is a biased source of information. But both species were trying to kill each other and Cecaelia seem to be (in AFO's case at least) very good in magic.

Do cecaelia live for so long? Because if they do, the chances of they getting wiped completely out is really hard, since they can hide all they want without fear of dying from old age.

And now that Toshi lost his only heir to the throne...

What's next?

Is the Yagi line going to disappear completely now?

I think it's been long enough since Sinking into the Depths finished to answer this. Full disclosure that I had a coauthor for that AU so I'm not the sole person in control of all the lure, so just consider this my own idle thoughts rather than fic canon.

All for One is a liar for the entire fic. He initially tells Izuku that he is the last of his kind to win sympathy. Also, All for One made it sound like the mers were solely responsible for wiping out the Cecaelia but his people got into a war with pretty much every other underseas species. All for One wanted to make Izuku feel more guilty and responsible. By the end All for One had trouble keeping track of his lies. Izuku was just starting to notice the inconsistences but did not figure it out in time.

All for One doesn't like other people enough to want to reproduce with one. He can create his own child and then he doesn't have to share custody. Like octopi, Cecaelia are solitary and territorial creatures. If All for One had actually been the last of his kind he would have been more urgent about reproducing but he was lying about that.

Cecaelia usually only produce one child at a time and have low fertility rates, because I believe in the common fantasy rule that immortal/long-lived species have less fertility. The Cecaelia created a spell to transform other species because it's hard for them to have children. Since Cecaelia are an intelligent race, they look after their children rather than throwing them out in the ocean and letting them survive on their own. Their babies are treasured and have a high survival rate.

Cecaelia are much stronger at magic than mer or any other race. All for One wasn't idly bragging or lying about that.

Cecaelia are nearly immortal. A good portion of the population avoided all the fighting and hid in the distant corners of the ocean so they were never truly likely to get completely wiped out.

Toshinori has no intention of giving up on Izuku and will continue to chase after his missing son. He would angrily reject anyone to tried to convince him to remarry. There are distant cousins who could inherit the throne. (Katsuki and Mirio are both in the line of succession.) However I will let the reader decide if Toshinori finds his son again. Don't write him off yet! All for One is foolish enough to flaunt that he has Izuku, and that is Toshinori's chance.
