A Merry MerMay to you all!🧜‍♀️

One of my favorite moments from faire last year was when a small girl came over to my booth, saw this print, and declared her sheer disappointment and frustration at whoever had taken this photo, instead of helping me in my moment of peril.

I assured her that the photo had been taken the very second the swarm had attacked, and that my friend helped me right afterwards.

She still seemed very unimpressed. lol

Never let the magic die. <3

"You feel like home..."

Mer-may has really brought out the mermaid kid in me! So have fun with all my brain rot. (ﾉ´ヮ`)ﾉ*: ･ﾟ(aka Another drawing for @twisted-tech Mer-may event!)

This is my design for Mer-Idia. I didn't want to go with the canon nickname Floyd has for him so instead I went for a more anglerfish vibe!

Mer AU ideas/ Alternate versions under the cut:

Idia lives in the Midnight Zone of the Ocean, a place completely devoid of sunlight. Luckily Idia and his family make their own light.

The Shroud family in this mer au watches over strange creatures in the Abyssal Zone (the lowest tier).

I like the goofy idea that Yume strayed too far from their reef to look for the pal Grim (yes I drew Grim as a mermaid) and ends up lost in the depths.

Idia is simply out hunting for food and well, you know Yume do be looking like a snack (he'd rather eat another mer than that small kitty cat-looking mer he saw earlier.)

So like any decent anglerfish mer he lures Yume over to get them. (I imagine since Idia isn't physically strong he relies on his lure/glow/ and ambushes prey. Incapacitating them before they can run

I imagine Idia's hair is more like an extension of his body kinda like feelers, that are extremely venomous and sting his prey, similar to the anemone.

But that really backfires because since Yume is a clownfish they're immune to his sting and actually think it feels nice, like they are back home in their anemone!

At first they don't realize Idia is another mer and just think he's some weird anemone and they go to cuddle into him affectionally (as clownfish do. Rubbing against it.) They're really surprised when it lets out a shriek!

Since Idia is basically a walking stinging death trap I imagine he hasn't had much positive touch except from Ortho. So it's a big shock when Yume just casually touches him so lovingly. He gets spooked/embarassed and runs away.

But Yume is still lost and he's the only light they can see for miles so, yeah they're following him! They end up running into Ortho and Grim!

And thats how they meet in this version of my mer au! Thanks for reading the whole thing. I have traditional sketches I might post showing my concept designs!

Miranda! She's from the 1948 movie of the same name, Miranda. Which actually had a sequel in 1954, titled Mad About Men. Glynis Johns starred as the titular Miranda for both films. And they're both delightful (and both are up on YouTube for free!)~ <3 She has her fun with multiple men, and then returns to the sea.
