There was a post a bit ago questioning what De smelled like. Since he was a heavy smoker, there was some concern about him smelling of cigarettes. I’m happy to say that the few times I met him in person, he did not smell of cigarettes.

However, the ever awesome @citizenkampbell informed me that he wore Drakkar and Caroline Herrera for Men colognes.

Of course I had to find these to get a whiff of what De liked to smell like.

I found a teeny bottle of Drakkar on eBay (though it’s now Drakkar Noir) Drakkar is advertised as a well balanced blend of earthy, citrusy, woody and green notes.

I could not find a sampler of Caroline Herrera (which came out in 1991, so he must have used that later in his life), but it’s description is “The fragrance opens with a freshly transparent top note of Neroli and Citrus fruit leaves. Lavender and Rosemary further magnify through its heart, and combining with richly aromatic, spicy notes of green pepper leaves, cloves and geranium. A blend as eclectic as the Herrera man, the scent’s woody base of tobacco, sandalwood and ambergris reaffirms an elegant masculinity.” Say what???

Anyway, it appears that De leaned towards smelling citrus-y (he did have an orange tree in his yard 😉), but while sniffing my little bottle of Drakkar, I get more of a clean woodsy smell. It’s very nice.
