Amazing the things you find on the internet.

De's W-4 from 1954.

Happy to find the above as I was able to confirm this entry in the February 1955 phone book with the address. This was a small apartment complex built in 1940, 2 stories with 8 units. They moved here in 1953 after returning from NY in 1952 and staying with friends at first.

Lady of the Plains Death Valley Days

Funny thing I noticed watching this episode. Watch on our left of De (his right), after he cocks the gun, the shell comes flying out and it lands on top of the brim of his hat. You can see it rolling around there.

Still shots:

Even though there is a short scene between the above and below gifs, it was likely one continuous shot. The shell is still on his brim.

Somewhere in the fight he loses the shell, but I can't see where. If not during the first gun butt to the head, it most likely rolled off on the second one and was blocked by his body.

Then there's a cut and no shell at all.

Super interesting find in depths of the internet, DeForest Jackson Kelley's Birth Certificate (Certified Copy). Pictures below the text description:

Place of Birth: County of Fulton, The City of Atlanta, 104 Ormond Atlanta (cross referenced with the 1920 Census for Clora Kelley, taken 8 January 1920).

De was "known as a house baby. I was born in the house." (from the Midcon England, 1986)

****Full Name of Child: DeForest Jackson Kelley******

This is super interesting. De always told the story of how he didn't know his first name was Jackson until he was drafted and needed his birth certificate. "I had never heard the name Jackson until I went into the service and, all of the sudden, there it was." (from the Midcon England, 1986). But here we can see it's written how we think of the naming conventions today.

Maybe he thought it was written second, first, last and that's just how it was done; maybe the person who filled out the birth certificate got it wrong or was told wrong by his parents (that happened to my mom lol). But I think maybe this is just how things were done in his family. His brother was named Ernest Casey Kelley, and everyone, even the papers, called him Casey. De and Casey probably wouldn't have had any reason to look at their birth certificates until the draft, so maybe they were comparing them and Casey's was written Casey Ernest? In any case, it doesn't seem to have ever been an issue and the government went with Jackson DeForest Kelley on all his papers after being drafted.
