It just came to me that after Mihawk presented Red Hair Pirates with Luffy's wanted poster and mentioned he met the kid, Shanks was probably trying to get as much details about Luffy as possible, to Mihawk's eternal dismay.
Obviously, Shanks is very impressed and proud that Luffy got himself Pirate Hunter Roronoa Zoro as a crewmember, and at some point Mihawk makes a critical mistake of mentioning a long-nosed guy referred by others as Usopp, and suddenly he has to deal not with one proud/curious/anxious dad asking him questions, but two, and this is not how he imagined this morning to go out.

Hey Meg!!! How are you??
Hope you're feeling better now. I feel you, holidays always manage to be shitty one way or another🫠
I've actually managed to have the first good holidays in a while (like, maybe 6 years)! yey me! it was mostly good bc my sister's bf was sick, so we used that excuse to miss plans, but a win is a win lol. And for the first time i managed to get along with all my cousins, so that was nice.
But, anyways, you said you were distracting yourself with books and tv shows. What have you been reading/watching??
hey Aj!!! its been a while since you sent this but I'm here now xD
I am doing a lot better now! (and I was starting to get better at around the time you sent this ask, and this ask just brightened everything up, so thank you!)
I'm glad to hear your holidays went good!! A win is a win for sure lmaoo, i hope he's doing better now!! It's nice that you're getting along well with your cousins ^=^
Ooo yes books. When you sent the ask, I was fixated on Japanese crime fiction. I had read The Mill House Murders as well as The Decagon House Murders by Yukito Ayatsuji (both of which I thoroughly enjoyed!! I kind of pieced the ending for the Mill House Murders before I got to it but it was enjoyable regardless!) I'd also started The Honjin Murders by Seishi Yokomizo... but then I... got distracted.
Recently I read Icebreaker by Hannah Grace! It's your typical enemies-to-lovers hockey romcom situation, it was a fun time. I'm currently reading Iron Widow, and the premise is really interesting and the protagonist is witty and funny and super badass, I love her.
As for movies. I recently rewatched the Kung Fu Panda series (it's just so good!! I'm waiting for the 4th movie but I'm kind of apprehensive for what's coming ahh). I've been mainly watching Thai BLs tbh xD. I'm currently on Cherry Magic 30 (the Thai remake, the original in Japanese is really cute too) and Last Twilight; they're both ongoing so I have plenty of time to brainrot over one episode before the next one comes out HAHAH (Last Twilight is one of the best shows I've ever watched, the most recent episode had me sobbing myself to sleep at 1:30am ToT)
yeah. that's my update. tell me about what you've been reading and watching!!

So i usually dont really make posts, but im doing a supernatural rewatch and ive decided to at least try to chronicle this here.
I've finished the first season (I made an attempt a couple months earlier but got stuck at like ep 16 (when plot started happening)). This time i powered through and before i started season 2 i wanted to finish this post. These are my main take-aways from season 1:
(Warning rambling ahead)
The first couple episodes are actually really good and fun they set the tone of the show so well and introduce us both to the characters as well as the lore. What i also realized is that many of the iconic fanvid moments are from the first season (but also especially those first couple eps).
Also because they have to have their characters talk about their kit in a "natural" way, its Sam being like Dean i KNOW a shotgun doesnt work against ghosts why are you giving me this / Well because Sammy this one is filled with rocksalt (like this is not a thing before). Which knowing the later seasons makes them seem like such amateur hunters honestly. They dont know about rocksalt bullets, they dont know about devil traps, they dont know an excersism by heart (Bobby does say demon possession used to be a rarity and are on the uptick, but STILL) also in episode 4 Dean complains about having to wear suits for their disguise because they never needed to do that before, another later season staple they claim to have been doing for the first time.
I also forgot how early the psychic Sam story line began, its like set up from the beginning and truely gets going ep 5, and it does such good and interesting things with the Sam and Dean dynamic. They also introduce Meg and ol' yellow-eyes (as well as his son, Meg's brother who dies?? I don't remember him coming back? does he???)
Sam and Dean's dynamic is honestly my main reason for rewatching their so stupidly codependent while also being stubborn as fuck and then when you throw John in the mix it becomes even more interesting
also John is a piece of shit father, like yea he loves his sons but not enough to actually spend time with them in a fatherlike role i guess (also also when you tell your 18 y/o son to never return when he runs away from home and then say your both at fault for not reconcilling thats on you pall, youre the adult (or are at least supposed to be)) In ep 14 Nightmare Sam and Dean acknowledge that if their dad hadn't completely thrown himself into hunting (thus also physically removing his presence from the boys) he had a big chance of ending up like Max' (super fucking abusive and drunk) dad, which is its own entiere can of worms.
We also later learn that the hunter community is a diverse and supportive place, which makes it extra - lets say interesting - that John purposefully never interacted with them (cept like a couple of white old guys with guns) it tells us so much about his character.
The ending of season 1 was surprisingly well wrapped up tbh. Like i forget there was actually coherent storytelling in the first 5 seasons. They keep building up to Sam wanting revenge, very much mirroring their Dad, while Dean is on the other side, putting his family's lifes above his need for revenge then in the end Sam has to choose, do this Dad's way, truely commit to revenge above everything, in doing so murdering his own family member or chosing family, chosing Dean. And he DOES, and its very cathartic and then the truck hits 10/10 finale
What I haven't really missed from these earlier seasons is the casual misogyny (and homophobia). There are actually quite a few interesting female characters that are introduced, but the only way they are spoken about is how hot they are/how they would like to sleep with them (Dean is especially guilty of this because of his "womanizing" ways, whereas Sam is supposed to be the loyal grieving bf) but it just really dishearting that even when Sam is just talking to a woman of roughly the same age range the writers make Dean say a comment implying the only reason Sam would want to interact with a woman is because he is interested in her romantically/sexually (which he then does his best to refute, again grieving bf, but it also makes me headcanon Sam as greysexual, which i do like but dont think is what the showrunners where going for)
Because they wanted to throw in basically a hot babe character for them to save there are now also a lot of ppl who know about the supernatural specifically because of Sam and Dean. In my mind a lot of them (especially all the early twenties women looking for answers and community) will join a facebook group of Sam and Dean Survivors. They could share experiences, some of them might become hunters, or allies to hunters (researchers, a safe place to stay, etc.) I kept a list of characters that survived and know about things that bump in the night:
Haley, Tommy & Ben Collins; Ep 2, siblings saved from the Wendigo, one of them was captured and the others joined for the recue
Andrea & Lucas Bar; Ep 3, Lucas almost drowned due to a lake ghosting haunting his bully grandad
Amanda Walker; Ep 4, stewardess who survided the plane-crashing demon
Charlie; Ep 5, teenager who was almost a victim to Bloody Mary
Becky Warren; Ep 6, Sam's college pal, who was the shapeshifter tortured (her brother was the suspect before, but he didn't see anything himself, he might find out from his sister tho)
Lori Sorensen; Ep 7, church girl who got haunted by hookman (her dad got stabbed by the ghost, but might just think it was a dude?)
Larry, Matt & Joanie Pike; Ep 8, the housing development family who survived the bug horror night
Jenny and Sari; Ep 9, new residents of the old winchester house, got haunted some ghosts (also baby Ritchie was lured into the fridge, but he is also like 4 at most)
Kat & Gavin; Ep 10, ex-gf and bf who got trapped in the super haunted asylum with Sam and Dean (Kat is the one who inspired this list and also def a future hunter)
Emily Jorgesons; Stephen & girlfriend; Ep 11, they were all chosen to be sacrifed to the scarecrow, Emily actually knows why, the other couple just knows some shit went down
David Wright; Ep 12, the atheist protesting against faith healing who saw a reaper attacking him (also 2 young kids at the start who were captured by a rawhead)
Cassie & Audrey Robinson; Ep 13, would-be victims of racist ghost truck, Cassie was Dean's old flame
Alice Miller; Ep 14, Max' stepmom, who is the only survivor of the family after Max killed his dad, uncle and then himself
Ed Zeddmore & Harry Spengler; Ep 17, intro of the ghost hunters!! they already believed, but now they actually saw a supernatural creature
Micheal; Ep 18, kid whose younger brother also got his life engergy stolen so was willing to use himself as bait
Sarah Blake; Ep 19, auctioneers daughter, she helped destroy the haunted painting, had a thing with Sam
Monica Holt; Ep 21, mother of the fam they saved from yellow-eyes, by breaking and entering their house (Dad Charlie didn't see anything supernatural, but was also there, also baby Rosie)
Hon. Mention: Kathleen Hudak; Ep 15, cop only heard Sam and Dean talk about how the assailants "are human" but did let them go before the rest of the force would arrive, I imagine she would join the facebookgroup and then just figure it out on her own from there
(- unrelated mostly but the rewatch i never continued with i did that one on netflix, because that was available to me then, now i just watch it online elsewhere and i didnt realise netflix changed a lot of the music lisencing so i went into ep 6 kinda hype cause the last time i heard the song Mary by the Death Riders for the first time and thought it was a dope song that added a lot to the scene of the shapeshifter actually shifting and developing his character, so i kept waiting for them to play it and then they didnt, which had me frantically googling what the music of the ep was cause i low-key felt like i was going insane for a second before i found out it was a netflix vs non-netflix thing)
I have thoughts about each individual episode as well, but I think ive rambled on long enough, lets see if i keep this up for season 2 and beyond lol

thanks @greensolsikke for tagging me✨
not exactly sure if i'm doing this correctly but ah well
Last song: 'Million miles away' by Hanoi Rocks(i was feeling nostalgic and sad, alright?)
Fav colour: depends a bit on context but forest green or imperial blue.
Currently watching: Apart from tiktoks? The live action if One Piece (rewatching for like the sixth time)
Last movie: It was either the Michael Monroe documentary or Meg 2: The trench. Tho i did sleep through like 70% of the Meg 2.
Currently reading: "Ohjelmistotestauksen käsikirja" by Jussi Pekka Kasurinen (it's a book for school. about software testing. much exciting yes yes)
Also rereading 'Midsummer' because a)this bitch of an author knows EXACTLY what i like and b) i'm trying to get inspired to finish the next chapter of 'Afterglow'.
But in general my attention span isn't long enough to read much of anything so books aren't really my friends.
Sweet/Savoury/Spicy: Depends on the day but spicy
Relationship status: Engaged
Current obsession: Käärijä & Joker out. One Piece live action. Sleeping. Red bull. The way my gf keeps buying plant based alternatives for dairy products so that my 'allergic-to-milk" self won't have to suffer just bc i want a mug of hot chocolate.
Last google: I googled my school's yearly calendar. Wanted to know when i'll have a break (i won't. there is no break.)
Currently working on: A gift box for a friend. Afterglow's next chapter. Kinktober(no i have not abandoned it, i am just taking a little break due to the fact that there are only 24 hours in a day). School(i have two exams next week and i'm ✨screwed✨). Getting over a nasty cold. Getting more rest.
i tag @feral4kaarijasquat aaaaand @arendellepeach and @claracivry. if y'all wouldn't mind

[[10 and 16 for the munday questions, please!!]]
Munday Question!
16 What is your favorite band/music genre?
Hmm... That is so hard to explain. It's really mixed actually. I love hard rock and then sometimes I really love to listen to classical music, sometimes goth music. Though I can tell you my favorite artists that I listen frequently right now.
Hozier, The Weeknd, Lana Del Rey, The Neigbourhood, Meg Myers, etc. Its too much tbh xD
10 What is your favorite fictional character (in or out of the current fandom)?
UFF! Thats a really hard one, because I love them all so much after reading the Manga (I am still rereading the Manga constantly xD) Let's make a time stamp and a little list (It's gonna be long and I am already sorry so I will cut the post here >//<):
When I first watched the first episode I immediately fell in love with Tanjiro. The kindness, empathy and love he helds for the people around him just touched me such on a deep level, it's really hard to explain. Without sounding weird, it's probably because I see the world as him. Be kind to your surrounding, you never know what they go through even if they are mean to you (but not too much!)
Then Inosuke came (and believe me I am not saying this because you are the one who send that ask xD) I swear this pretty little piece of shit. Everytime when he laughs I laugh with him and I just genuinely enjoy watching him doing stuff.
Zenitsu and Nezuko also have a special place in my heart (did you see them? They are adorable! Yes I ship them! You can judge me xD)
The Rengoku's. All of them. I cried like for the rest of the day when I watched Mugen Train. Cried again when I read it in the manga. Cried again when I rewatched it yesterday. (I know I am hopeless... I mean why am I doing this to myself??) I don't wanna even get started why I love Kyojuro so much so I won't but I have to go into detail with Shinjuro, because this man deserves better from the fandom. I know hitting his own child (just alone a child) is unforgivable and I would smack him gladly for that, but that doesn't make him a pure villain. This man is deep broken and people don't understand that. He was a passionate father who adored his family. He was so happy when he wanted to teach them Kendo, but then he lost the love of his life (and I truly believe that he loved his Ruka dearly), then he reads in the diary of his ancestor and realizes that no matter what you do, no matter how hard you train, you will never get to that level of strength that the first breather (Yoriichi). This man was depressive and deeply broken down and made later a character development. Give him some slack please (also his man tiddies are also nice but thats another story 👀)
Then we come to my first true love. Yoriichi Tsugikuni. This man... THIS MAN! I don't know where to start and my post is already long enough and ugh. Shit I will try to make it short. This man was born with a strength that is not comparable to any other person and yet he desired only a quite life with his loved that was him denied. A man who stands true to himself and who stood humble. A man who is so strong and soft and even softer for his loved ones. Someone who truly loved and was not able to forget them as they hold them high in their hearts (we know that he never remarried as he thinks that Uta was his true love. We know how much it has hurt him to attack his own brother who's flute he was still carrying with him). I could go on and on, but I think that would be too much.

july 2022 movie reviews
i watch two movies (one live-action & one animated) a week every month: letterboxd account ★ two movies a week every month list
here are the eight movies i watched for the month of july:
**SPOILERS BELOW**
JULY 4 - THE HALF OF IT
Tumblr media
going into this i thought it would be another tatbilb, or even worse, another kissing booth, but i was pleasantly surprised that this was sapphic introspection at its greatest. ish. i love love loved the spray paint scene - probably one of my fav scenes of july - it kinda reminded me of the rock segment in everything everywhere (i’m not over it btw) and it made me pause the movie and squeal for an embarrassingly long time
also, in a way, isn’t this a sapphic (slash bi, altho it was very obvious the only person ellie loved was aster) retelling of sierra burgess is a loser?
yep. at its very core, the half of it is yet another cyrano effect film. unlike sierra burgess is a loser, though, i loved this movie, because it treads the line between poetic and fun, artistic yet...kinda basic, which isn’t a bad thing, per se. also, while it had a lot of nltog moments, there were a lot of scenes that made this movie awesome. i’ll prob rewatch soon once i have time 🫶
letterboxd rating: 4.5/5
JULY 5 - LIZ AND THE BLUE BIRD
Tumblr media
(i actually went to watch rise of gru on the same day, but since i watched it at the cinema i decided not to include it here)
screams. i love this movie to pieces! yet another sapphic masterpiece for the month of july, mostly because i was really out of it in june (bc i binged so many series). i actually watched hibike euphonium a very long time ago, and lemme tell u rn i was so. disappointed when i heard that kumiko and reina don’t end up together. i had to turn to fics to ease my pain.
SO. i decided to watch liz and the blue bird. holy. this movie is SO poetic. almost like worship? like.....religious. except not to god, but to their...well, love? the movie never explicitly says the forbidden L word but it is very heavily implied that they have feelings for each other, WHICH MAKES ME LOVE their devotion to each other EVEN MORE.
the actual liz and the blue bird story in the movie actually made me cry. i loved the caged bird imagery, the way liz had to let the blue bird go for her to be able to fly again, even though it hurt her...even though the blue bird didn’t want to leave her...sigh. love is selfless after all i guess. sometimes i wish it were a little more selfish bc they deserved to be together 😞
i love the fact that at the start of the movie the text says disjoint, and by the end it finally says joint. it’s another small thing that affects the whole movie’s atmosphere and it was done phenomenally!
letterboxd rating: 5/5
JULY 11 - MONTE CARLO
Tumblr media
this is the kind of movie you would watch on disney channel when you were really young, fall asleep in the living room, and wake up in your bed. like magic? well, i probably only feel this way bc selena gomez is in it lol
BTW can we take a sec to appreciate the visuals in this movie?? by visuals i mean how beautiful the main characters were. selena is SO PRETTY in this i actually couldnt stop staring BUT ALSO leighton is gorgeous as always and altho i dont really know katie she is also so so beautiful. this was a solid movie, super cute and exciting. also idk why but it kinda reminded me of the parent trap. well. i guess it’s obvious why it reminded me of the parent trap, but eh. it’s weird to think that we have complete doppelgängers out there tho
i didn’t care too much about the love interests besides meg’s, because he was legitimately awesome. man. i liked that grace and theo met up again at the end but as i said, don’t really care too much about him. RIP cory 😔
letterboxd rating: 4/5
JULY 12 - BARBIE MARIPOSA
Tumblr media
this movie has one of the most iconic opening sequences in barbie history. also, is it really considered a rewatch if the last time i watched this i was like 5 with no capability to retain any sort of fondness for it
great movie, i loved that they didn’t make the “mean girls” evil but instead gave them tremendous character growth. this is modern (2008) feminism yall
letterboxd rating: 4.5/5
JULY 18 - ZOMBIELAND: DOUBLE TAP
Tumblr media
YAY ANOTHER ZOEY DEUTCH MOVIE! i love this woman more than i love myself sometimes so i was devastated when she died. jk. she survived but i was horrified for a hot sec
i actually watched this at the gym with my phone bared for all to see so when it came time for that scene with madison and columbus i simply turned my phone around and waited it out. btw i almost fell on the tread when avan freakin jogia appeared bc what is he doing in zombieland as a hippy
i also cant tell what exactly it is wichita wants. like...ok. her “i don’t get attached” bs would be a nightmare for me to deal with so columbus stronger than me fr
(btw this is the THIRD time i’ve written this review because I KEEP forgetting to save draft this is horrible)
letterboxd rating: 4/5
JULY 19 - BARBIE MARIPOSA & THE FAIRY PRINCESS
Tumblr media
yk those movies that aren’t sapphic but are universally agreed upon as sapphic-coded? this is one of them. GAH i love their connection. they r so cute 🥰
i love the forgiveness scene bc it kinda reminds me of what should’ve happened by the end of beauty and the beast. the prince finally giving the witch a place to stay = catania giving gwyllion a crystallite. isn’t it safe to say then that mariposa is the beauty and catania is the beast....but they’re both beauties, so i guess it’ll just be beauty and beauty. beauty2
letterboxd rating: 4.5/5
JULY 25 - FOREVER MY GIRL
Tumblr media
listen. i trusted jessica rothe bc i loved her as tree in happy death day, but this movie.....had me wanting to punch. liam. so bad. LIKE HOW DOES SOMEONE MESS UP THAT BADLY. first man LEAVES her at the altar, next he wont return her calls TRYING to tell him she’s pregnant, and now he just wants to up and rejoin her life, as if he hasn’t been absent from it for 8 YEARS???
while i hated the male lead i still enjoyed the movie, all the little things. liam is so constantly horrible to the people around him but they STILL forgive him bc its a christian movie so forgiveness has to be a thing apparently. personally i would’ve punched him harder josie
but i gotta admit the voice mail thing is pretty romantic. probably one of the only things i liked about liam was his beat up old cellphone with the voicemail he listens to every single day. btw liam page...liam payne...coincidence i think not
letterboxd rating: 4/5
JULY 26 - KUNG FU PANDA 2
Tumblr media
another rewatch because i am insane. since when was kung fu panda a cinematic masterpiece?? since the 2nd movie ofc bc lord shen is one of the greatest movie villains ever idc
good lord i remember liking him so much i literally had like a folder of deviantart fanart of him which is pretty disturbing if u ask me but rewatching it made my adoration for him increase tenfold. kung fu panda 2 is the best kung fu panda movie and i WILL die on this hill
the animation was PHENOMENAL and it had some of the most epic fight scenes in the movie series. i love how this movie added to po’s background and how he ended up as the dragon warrior. plus the way his and tigress’ friendship developed! what i love most tho is the father son bond between po and ping. made me tear up x10 so i was basically crying a river. i also didn’t realize how hilarious kung fu panda is, i haven’t laughed like that in a long time (since everything everywhere) (so like since a month ago)
awesome animation+awesome script+awesome villain! what more can u ask for
letterboxd rating: 5/5

Thanks for the tag @lelephantsnail 💕
Favorite Color: peacock blue/midnight blue
Currently Reading: The Black Swan by Naseem Taleb. This is so unlike anything I’ve read. loving it so far. Padmarag by Rokeya Sakhawat Hossain. I hope I finish them.
Last Song: Dil Se Re by Rahman, Anupama and Anuradha. and Fanaa (Rahman, Tanvi, Sunitha). His concert reawakened my love for this song (actually all of his music, I had forgotten how much I loved it).
Last Series: I finished a Little Women rewatch (in love) and finally started Spy x Family. I love it! it's already starting to deliver the found family, I'm gonna be obsessed. Also watching Gaus electronics on the side. It’s pure chaos and zero brain cells in sight. I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I did.
Last Movie: Nope. I need to rewatch this masterpiece.
Currently working on: just my portfolio. messing this one up big time if I dont stop procrastinating
share 10 different favourite characters from ten different pieces of media in no particular order, then tag 10 people: I'm doing 11 because I can't pick one from little women. I'm also quoting them (not necessarily their best lines, just the ones that come to my mind first) bc why not💕
1. Oh In-Joo (Little Women):
"Where do souls live? I always wanted a home where my soul could live." I can’t stop thinking about her characterization and development. They managed to keep Meg’s tenderness from the novel but added so much more. and they fit all of that with a surreal plot and significant commentary on capitalism and poverty. I love that they weaved in so much (and did it well).
2. Oh In-Kyung (Little Women):
"They're so fresh. They're fresh to the point that it's almost sexy". Fresh produce is…weirdly sexy. She gets it. Therefore, she is my favourite. Her layers make her feel so real, a part of the reason why I’m so obsessed w this show. Modern adaptations of classics are hard to get right, and I feel like this one treads those lines well. it is fresh (a full genre shift) but still manages to keep the essence.
3. Black (Not Me):
"Power is corrupting. Ideas are what have the power to transform society" My plot device of a man🥹🥹 Certainly deserved better. I could watch him wreck shit for days.
4. Dazai (Bungo Stray Dogs):
"No one can fully grasp another person's deepest emotions. It's impossible. Only you can understand what you're feeling. But generally speaking, I can tell you this. Most people tend to cry when their father dies." Can’t help but hate him. Can’t help but project onto him. He has fucked up a lot. and he will continue to do so. It is entertaining to watch, but sometimes he deserves a slap across the face (or several idk). Other times, a hug.
5. Wang (180 Degrees Longitude Passes Through Us):
"I will break free. Time is on my side, so I've decided to leave. But leaving doesn't mean I lost." I’m so proud of him. In a story where people struggled to change, he proved that it was still possible. His sheer will to gain something out of the heartbreaking experience he had, and to keep going despite being so lonely, so unheard. But also, the maturity to know which fights to pick. There’s so much to learn from him.
6. Togawa (Old Fashion Cupcake):
"I'm seducing you. I've been trying to seduce you, with everything I have. Although you never had a clue. I know...being seduced by someone of the same sex, isn't considered common sense for most people. Especially from a subordinate. But unfortunately, it's common sense to me. So I've been seducing you. I've been meaning to tell you this whole time, but I was afraid. I was scared of saying something that wasn't normal to you. But doing this...and telling you in such a horrible way... I'm so sorry. I like you. I like you so much, I could die." I couldn't have justified picking anything else.
7. Ink (Bad Buddy):
"It's so gainful" The icon that she is. gmm, get your ass up and give us a milklove GL 2023.
8. Anya (Spy x Family):
"Father is a tsundere." I've only had her for two episodes but if anything happened to her I would kill everyone in this room and then myself.
9. Fleabag (Fleabag):
"I don’t know what to do with it. With all the love I have for her. I don't know where to put it now." I will always treasure fleabag.
10. Baek Hee-Sung (Flower of Evil):
"We’ve only known each other for 14 years. So of course, you’d be clueless of my intentions." Thinking about him leaves an ache in my chest. Mr. I've-never-felt-an-emotion really broke down on the streets after reuniting with his 4 yo daughter and then got called out by her for it. "Daddy, don't cry like before if you miss me, okay? You're a grown-up". So,, misunderstood.
11. Han Ju-Won (Beyond Evil):
"I'll be a monster and dive into hell. That is my way of atoning" He's on this list bc I miss his ass and this show.
Special mention to Choi Doil and Great Aunt (Little Women) bc they haven't left my mind. and Nozue (babe, togawa was only here bc of that iconic confession, i love you just as much) and Miw from 3 will be free💕 This was so much fun, thanks for tagging me @lelephantsnail <33 Also, I’m so happy to see that you’ve watched 180 degrees, and wanted to shred it to bits with analysis because that show absolutely deserves it. so much to dig into and have your heart wrecked. Feel free to yell at me about it any time.
Have a great day!💕

It will haunt my dreams” “what’s with the handkerchief?” “creepy” “hell yeah brother” “sounds horrible” “that’s shitty” “you could have a better implement” “why isn’t she running?” “didn’t see that coming” “really dude?” “I didn’t see that coming” “which one was that?” “I guess I could have waited the 4 seconds” “seduce Dean for what purpose?” “Can demon blades hurt angels? I guess I’ve never thought about it. Angel blades can hurt angels and demons, but not archangel blades.” “what does a demon need from Dean?” “the other pieces would have fallen on to of him. I want to know where they went” “I didn’t see any of that coming” “Didn’t she just say she couldn’t? Hurt but not kill I guess” “Take their truck” “there ya go” “who’s that?” “She’s a half decent Meg impression” “Wouldn’t a 45 caliber bullet go all the way through” “it’s in his butthole!” “Same difference” “why would they need it anyway? They look all upset but who cares” “it’s in the craftsmanship” “They just don’t make them like they used to” “never saw the box of bandaids” “That’s actually just skin tape and not bandaids but sure” “he’s going to wait until now” “uh huh” “that’s weird” “carefully, I imagine”
“That camera is where the telescope was”

rewatching scenes from re-animator (the integral cut) so i can piece together a full, precise canon backstory/context for fic reasons and there is literally so much genuine evidence that herbert and dan had Something tangible going on.... like the way herbert threatens to tell dean halsey about dan and meg as blackmail.... even though he clearly already knows that they're together? like it can't be that big of a deal to reveal that their relationship is sexual????
herbert says "dear deluded daddy.... there's so much he doesn't know, isn't there?" with a pointed look at dan, who's looking down in apparent shame. what could he possibly be implying about dan and meg's relationship? unless... it's about a lot more than just that relationship. he also explicitly said that he would hate to see dan be expelled on "moral grounds." he does this weird little emphasis on moral, too. and he gives dan that insane little smile.
Tumblr media
THAT is an insane smile that says "yeah, i think halsey might have a strong reaction to finding out that one of his favorite students is not just dating his daughter but cheating on her, and with another man no less."

HI NOT TO BE THE CHICK WHO ONLY MESSAGES YOU ABOUT LOLILO BUT FUCK IM DOING A REWATCH AND A META REREAD BECAUSE YOU FUCKING HAVE TO IF YOU'RE GOING THE REWATCH AND I'M ALSO REREADING ALL OF YOUR FICS AND I WANT TO KNOW WHAT THE BALTHAZAR PEDRO WEDDING LOOKS LIKE. YOU SAID THERE WOULD BE A SEQUEL TO 202 AND THERE IS NO SEQUEL AND I'M HAVING FEELINGS I LOVE YOU
It seems unlikely that we'll ever get around to writing the sequel to 2020, but the gist of the idea was:
Peter and Balth's wedding party includes all the people you'd assume—Ben, Bea, Kit, and Jaquie, with Rosa and John as the maid of honor/best man/this-is-a-gay-wedding-we-don't-see-any need-to-pile-on-the-gender-stereotypes. The wedding itself is bigger than Balth would've preferred, partly to appease Peter's family but also partly because Peter himself is secretly super into the theatrics and ceremony of a big wedding.
The ceremony itself goes great, and Peter and Balth are now really officially husbands, and they're deliriously happy, but then.
Then.
It's time for the speeches.
Peter's dad makes a fully normal speech. Balth's parents probably like recite a spoken word performance piece or something, but it's normal for them. Rosa gets a speech, and it's extremely dry and full of sarcasm and kind of wanders off the point a lot, but still full of heart. John's speech is awkward and short, but also full of heart.
Great! Speeches done! On with dinner!
Except...
Ben has seized the microphone.
Ben's speech is unexpected, but actually kind of great! Funny, full of personal anecdotes, extremely supportive. Honestly probably the best speech of the night. Right up until the end, when he claims that he's the one who got Peter and Balth together.
Bea, of course, loves her boyfriend, but she can't let that stand. So she grabs the mic and explains that actually, she is the one who got Peter and Balth together, by baiting Peter into sorting his shit out and leading the charge to Vegan Fred's.
And now Freddie—wait, Freddie, what are you doing up here? You're not even in the wedding party!—Freddie doesn't care that she's not a bridesmaid, she's got the mic and she's explaining that actually, who knows if Peter and Balth would've gotten together if they didn't have the Rules to flout. (In the years since LoLiLo, Freddie has begun to take the position that she was responsible for the Rules, but really, since things worked out in the end, isn't that a good thing?) So actually, if you think about it...
Peter is downing the champagne he was supposed to toast with. Balth is patting him calmingly on the shoulder while looking around desperately for a distraction, any distraction. Meg looks like she's torn between going up there to explain who actually got Peter and Balth together and pretending she's never met these people. (What? Is this a wedding? I didn't even realize, I just always look this fabulous.)
Jaquie is recording the whole thing on her phone. Sure, there's a videographer there, but Peter will probably try to cut this out of the wedding video, and Jaquie never wants to forget.
Finally, Paige encourages Chelsey to go up and perform her interpretive dance on the theme of love, which puts an end to the speeches.

Yamato's image spot when he basically merges two stories he heard/read - one from Ace's childhood with Luffy and one from Roger preparing to go to Laugh Tale - creates this weird, dream-like situation. Yamato saw some resemblence between Ace and his brothers and the three great men from Oden's journal, and came to conclusion that ASL are the new generation that would continue the dream of Roger, Oden and Whitebeard.
And from the way Ace talks about Luffy - from the belief that Luffy will be a strong pirate - Yamato thinks that maybe Ace also beleives that Luffy can become a Pirate King.

My Seven Comfort Movies
Thanks for the tag, @thebookofmaev! You’ll see we have some overlap ☺️ (anyone else who wants to do this, consider yourself tagged.)
In no particular order..
Tumblr media
10 Things I Hate About You: I rewatched this movie recently and couldn’t believe I had gone a few years without seeing it because it is literally perfect. (personal trivia: I have either lived in or visited a decent number of the neighborhoods and sites in the Seattle/Tacoma region where they filmed various external scenes). The chemistry between Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles is soooo good. The scene where Patrick and Kat go paintballing and make out all over the place and then their conversation on the porch about prom seamlessly segues into them fighting again? INJECT THIS CONTENT INTO MY VEINS. I love how this is also a movie about sisters, in addition to being the perfect romantic comedy, and also the way the movie allows for Kat to be ACTUALLY ANGRY and still also love getting dressed up and going to the prom was (and frankly still is) revolutionary.
Tumblr media
You’ve Got Mail: Why do I love this movie so much? Joe Fox is basically a sociopath in the final half hour and the climax is a little rushed and its version of New York doesn’t really exist anymore and also only ever existed for very privileged white people anyway. Fox Books gobbles up an independent bookstore and it is basically framed as an inevitable good thing and is not even the main conflict of the story. AND YET! The way Tom Hanks looks at Meg Ryan when he tells her that the only thing they would ever fight about is what movie to rent on a Saturday night. “Who fights about that?” “Well, some people…not us.” *screams* It is frankly a crime that Tom Hanks was in this piece of neoliberal propaganda because he makes it feel wonderful and romantic and not actually like a horror movie. Kathleen Kelly’s apartment is also my dream apartment.
Tumblr media
My Big Fat Greek Wedding: The simplicity of this movie is its strength. It’s just a perfect little gem of a movie about a woman trying to take control of her life while learning about the strength of her family’s love. Plus she finds the perfect soulmate who is willing to do literally anything to be with her. A+ forever.
Tumblr media
Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring. This is the “easiest” film in the trilogy to watch because none of the battle scenes are too intensive and its scope is objectively much narrower than the other two films. It is bittersweet and heartwrenching, yet also poignant, uplifting, and sweetly funny. The music and cinematography are especially outstanding. Just a great movie to watch when the world feels dark and like nothing will ever get better. Honestly the right film for these times.
Tumblr media
Pride and Prejudice (2005): This is a gorgeous and soothing two hour adapation of a classic piece of literature and it is the perfect thing to put on when you are feeling fragile and want to feel transported to another time with rustic scenery and golden lighting. The music is especially exquisite. It doesn’t need to be anything else. (Also, the “American” ending is bad and the film rightly ends with Mr. Bennet laughing in his study. The main reason I am sad this movie is not a six-hour television miniseries is because we get less of the supporting cast.)
Tumblr media
The Sound of Music: The above gif explains everything you need to know about why this movie is one of the best films of all time. I watched it twice over the Christmas holidays—that’s how much of a comfort it is to me. Also, the most underrated musical arrangement in this film is the moody, minor-key version of My Favorite Things that the children sing before Maria returns.
Tumblr media
Star Wars, Episode IV: A New Hope. This movie is a perfect unit unto itself. If it were the only Star Wars movie ever made, we might be better off as a society. What is so great about this film is how absolutely NOT SERIOUSLY it is taking itself, unlike every other Star Wars film produced since. It’s just another bonkers science fiction move from the seventies. But somehow it all works! It is more than the sum of its parts! Bonus: Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher’s unintentional but absolutely scene-stealing chemistry, probably fueled by their offscreen affair. You know George Lucas is standing behind the camera going “oh shit, what is happening here.”

[Caption: "Both. Both. Both. Both is good." reaction gif from The Road to El Dorado.]
SPN
the first character i ever fell in love with: way back when, when I watched some episodes of season 3 with a friend, it was Ruby in 3x01-3x02. I was intrigued by her and then she was revealed to be a demon and I went 😍😍😍
a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: tbh with this character isn't as easy as stopping loving/being interested in them lmao (especially since my head is in multiple seasons simultaneously, between rewatching to make gifsets, or writing fic set in older seasons, etc. So, I really hate late seasons Dean, but I think of other times and am just as interested as I was initially. I can’t stand Sam after he got Jack trapped in the box, but I write about s4 Sam and adore him. Etc. etc.). I'm gonna say Crowley, who just was never as good as he was in season 5 IMO.
a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: not really given my mixed feelings, but I will always say Destiel got worse with Carver's, then Dabb's era lmao. It peaked in s6 afaic tbh. Sastiel also gets worse in the last batch of episodes, sns (first putting Jack in the box, then the attitude towards Castiel in early season 15... smh).
my ultimate favorite character™: Castiel, tragically xD. Bela and Ruby are also on Stanning Levels, especially the more I write about them.
prettiest character: there were sooooooo many pretty women in this show... but you all know Rowena is at the top for me LOL. Before her it was Meg 2.0, who has one of the prettiest faces I've ever seen.
my most hated character: Dean, although again, It's Complicated xD
my OTP: Megstiel.
my NOTP: John/Mary. Fuck cupids.
favorite episode: The Man Who Would Be King is the first that comes to mind. 4x16 or 5x10 are strong contenders too.
saddest death: *lists every beloved female character evah*. Bela and Meg's are very very sad, while Ruby's mostly annoyed me because of the wasted potential, for example.
favorite season: I am obligated to say season 3 because it had Bela AND Ruby (plus the plot with Dean's slow death is really, really good). The misogyny jumped out even more than usual in it though ¬¬
least favorite season: season 14. I had to implement a reward system to myself to get me to finish it lmao.
character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate: Dean is the one I get as far as hate (also love. Again, complicated). Although I must say there are a lot of fandom darlings I'm either indifferent to or even loathe. For indifferent, see Charlie or Benny. For loathing, see Victor Henriksen, who was misogynist AND tried to pressure Dean and Sam's lawyer to break privilege ¬¬. The fact that this fandom calls him cinnamon roll is proof that some people just want ~progressive fandom points without actually paying attention to the writing rme.
my ‘you’re piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave: Dean xD. And I mean, I guess Castiel is a war criminal and Ruby had kinda inconvenient goals from humanity's point of view xDD
my ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: Jack :))) and Kevin. Also Claire. All the Wayward girls lol. Alicia and Max. And so on lol.
my ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: Samruby I guess, but I feel no guilt. Dean/Alastair is also yikes, but I find it compelling sooo.
my ‘they’re kind of cute, and i lowkey ship them, but i’m not too invested’ ship: idk if I'm capable of this, whenever I think about a ship I'm lowkey interested in for too long I get invested LOL. Lately I've thought often about Castiel/Mary because of how hilarious I found the concept from a crackfic point of view (imagine Sam & Dean's reactions LOL)... but now I'm like hmm. Could be nice though. I partially blame @angelfishofthelord ¬¬
WYNONNA EARP
the first character i ever fell in love with: it’s been a long time but it was likely Wynonna. I think it was on the pilot, when she was completely disarmed when Dolls talked about demons like it was nothing after all she’d gone through (up to institutionalization) whenever she talked about it. I Felt That.
a character that i used to love/like, but now do not: n/a. My likes were constant lol.
a ship that i used to love/like, but now do not: n/a.
my ultimate favorite character™: Rosita is My Everything.
prettiest character: Rosita is pretty but MY GOD did the styling department did its best to hide that lmao. Waverly was gorgeous too. And Wynonna was hot.
my most hated character: I didn’t hate him, but tbh I never cared for Doc. I could tell he was getting more and more space and that was part of why I dropped the show: I just wasn’t interested in that.
my OTP: Rosita/Waverly.
my NOTP: n/a, really, but I also never cared for Doc/Wynonna.
favorite episode: the one with Rosewaves’ kiss or the alternate timeline one :DDD
saddest death: Willa’s :(((
favorite season: season 2.
least favorite season: I didn’t watch it but I’m gonna say s3 on principle xD
character that everyone else in the fandom loves, but i hate: again: not hate, but I really don’t get the hype about Doc. He is, also, Just A Guy xD
my ‘you’re piece of trash, but you’re still a fave’ fave: frankly I wouldn’t call any of my faves trash here, even jokingly. They’re good or have very limited choices!
my ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: frankly, Willa deserved better. Waverly is obviously the cinnamon roll lol, but Willa’s storyline is so tragic and frankly, poorly handled.
my ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: none, really, but I’m gonna drop a mention to Rosita/Wynonna, since they did a couple fucked up things to each other xD. Glad they ended in a good place with that hilarious s4 cameo, though :P
my ‘they’re kind of cute, and i lowkey ship them, but i’m not too invested’ ship: n/a.

Hi!! In the battle of iconic Meg Ryan romcoms, do you prefer Sleepless in Seattle or You've Got Mail?!
Hello there, sweetie! Both are wonderfully enjoyable films, but I have to say I have a preference for You've Got Mail. I just adore it to pieces and rewatch it often. It's one of my favorite comfort romcoms.
I love that Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan have more screen time together in that film, plus it's basically a Pride and Prejudice/Shop Around the Corner modern fusion with technology thrown in (remember the good 'ol days with AOL dial-up? *sings: memoooories* 😁), so what's not to love?

I was looking through my blog and came across a follower celebration that I was supposed to do and definitely never did for some reason and uh. That’s definitely not happening now but I did want to just do something, so I thought - I follow a lot of great content creators, so why not highlight them?
A lot of people do multiple things even if I only put them in one category so check out their tags and their work. <3

Have you seen the new little women movie? If so what do you think of it?
My initial thoughts on the movie are here. I just rewatched it for the sake of answering this ask. My thoughts can be summarized as follows:
This is a beautiful movie. So much loving focus on the things and the textures. The clothes are extremely Pinterest-and-Hallmark-movie aesthetic rather than anything remotely resembling history, but it’s hard to mind when every character is wearing three different textures and patterns at all times and giving the eye so much to look at. (Also, I was knitting during rewatch, so the knitwear was especially satisfying).
But I’m still not sure it succeeds as a story. Much like the outfits, there are so many different bits and pieces layered together, with different textures and colors that make it interesting to look at, but I’m not sure they come together into a coherent whole. Individual scenes could be good, but it was hard to connect emotionally to any of the characters when the backstory was chopped up into so many pieces.
I found it easier to differentiate between the past and the present this time--I finally figured out that the golden light is for childhood and the blue light is for adulthood. Noticing that also made me like the ending more, which I’ll get to later.
I liked the dancing scenes a bit less. They were a little less joyful and emotionally uplifting than I remembered. I did find it interesting how Jo and Laurie’s dance at their first meeting turns into a sort of silent film for part of it, until Meg intrudes and brings them back into the real world by telling them about her hurt ankle.
I liked the Meg and John story less. Emma Watson just doesn’t seem very motherly or wifely. However, the ending scene of the silk subplot was very touching and one of the few scenes in the movie that showed the self-giving side of marriage.
I still wish there had been more focus on the virtue development part of the plot--the “Meg falls to vanity” scene falls kind of flat because Laurie is just scolding her for...wearing a fancy dress? In a way that makes it seem like he’s just scolding her for being feminine and liking pretty things. We don’t have the context to make it clear that she’s bending her morals for the sake of being liked. The scene does set up a contrast between Laurie-the-moral-guardian and Laurie-living-a-life-of-vain-pleasure in the very next scene, but it’s not enough to make the Vanity Fair scene work on its own.
And why didn’t the movie have more of Mr. March? Let us see the marriage that has shaped the girls’ ideas of what marriage is supposed to be.
I found it interesting that the devoted spinster Aunt March who believes in marriage as a purely economic concern rejected offers to enter Meg’s wedding dance twice. She keeps herself but missed out on the joy.
I found Amy and Laurie slightly more believable as a couple. Though when Amy has the struggle of “marry for financial gain or marry for love”, it’s rather too convenient that the resolution is that she decides she’s really in love with a different rich guy than the one she was going to marry solely for his money.
Beth was a lesser character than I remembered (both in terms of screen time and emotional impact). However, I did like her role in the story far more because she’s kind of key to some of the themes (which I’ll get to in a moment).
I still hate Jo changing her mind about Laurie. It makes her choice of Bhaer seem like she’s settling for second-best.
Now’s the point where I’m going to talk about the themes and the ending. Which was the primary reason I wanted a rewatch--to clarify my ideas about this movie’s message and resolution.
SPOILERS AHEAD. FAIR WARNING TO ANYONE WHO HAS NOT ALREADY BEEN FRIGHTENED AWAY BY THIS WALL OF TEXT.
This movie is about three things: Marriage, Art and Money. Money is necessary to survive. Marriage and art can both be a source of money, but they are also pursuits that should be entered into out of love.
This movie harps and harps upon the fact that marriage is an economic proposition. It’s the most stable way for a woman to get money. She also gets love, ideally. But where the movie falters is focusing so much on the getting part of marriage and rarely on the giving. Laurie wanted to marry Jo because he wanted to get her love. Jo’s “I’m so lonely” scene specifically has her say that she wants to be loved, but not to love--she wants to receive rather than give. I’m not sure there’s any indication that either Jo or Laurie ever give or give up anything when they finally do enter into matrimony. It seems that they just get who they decide they want. Amy gets a rich husband and gets a man who loves her, but what does she ever give up for him, aside from another man who she also did nothing to love?
The silk scene with Meg and John is one of the few times where we see a married couple giving to each other, rather than focusing on what they get out of it.
Art, too, is a love that can be turned toward money, and most of the characters have this out of balance as well. Jo loves writing, but she wants to be seen as good, and she mostly cares about the money that she gets out of it. Amy gives up art completely when she realizes she’s not a genius. “I’d rather be great or nothing” is the exact opposite of doing art for the love of it--what she cared about was getting praise rather than giving something of herself to the world.
Beth is the only one who understands the giving nature of both love and art. She performs for no one’s praise or payment--she plays because she loves music. She’s the one who gives up her time to bring the donations to the Hummels when her sisters are caught up in their own pursuits. When she gets the piano, her sisters are the ones who are caught up in admiring it as a thing, but she runs off (without any of her sisters even noticing, too caught up in the wealth in front of them) to thank Mr. Lawrence because she recognized the love behind the gift.
Jo starts to understand the importance of love within art after Beth dies. We have the lovely scene of Beth encouraging Jo to do her writing for someone--give of her art. When Jo returns to her writing, the camera beautifully focuses on the For Beth at the head of the manuscript--Jo is not writing this for money or praise, but out of love for her sister.
I like the ending much better than I did before. I can see the golden sunlit ending as the “real” end of the story, because I noticed the lighting trick. When Bhaer is leaving the March house, Jo is standing in the blue light, but Bhaer is in the golden light. It’s as if Jo sees that a life with him could provide the same level of happiness that she knew in childhood.
It’s still odd that her family has to convince her every step of the way that she’s “in love”. But because of the lighting trick, I can more easily believe that she really did want to spend her life with him.
That dumb scene with the publisher is what ruins everything. We had Jo writing her book out of love. We had Jo deciding to give Bhaer a reason to stay. But it’s derailed by this weird focus on money. Jo keeps insisting that she’s “selling” her heroine into marriage, and that she’s willing to sacrifice her artistic vision just because this ending is what sells. I feel like if they’d cut out all that stuff about the contract negotiation--which seems only to have been put in because Gerwig wanted to show off this bit of trivia about Alcott’s business acumen--the ending would have been a million times more coherent on a plot and thematic level.
I can believe that the sunlit ending at Plumfield is Jo reaching happiness by giving of herself to others. Everyone is using art to give to others--Bhaer is teaching music, Laurie’s teaching some kind of drama class, Amy’s teaching painting.
The shot of the gold leaf being stamped onto the cover of Little Women, which had seemed like the final stroke saying “this ending is fiction” now seems to be saying that “this is the way the story really ends.” It’s helped by the fact that after Jo gets the book in her hands, we cut to the image of a group of little girls playing pretend--it’s Jo being satisfied in her book not because it’s her achievement or a source of money, but because she knows it will inspire another generation of little girls. Thus we can have Jo achieving artistic and personal fulfillment by publishing the book and teaching at Plumfield.
If it wasn’t for that contract negotiation scene, there wouldn’t even be a question of what the real ending was supposed to be. There’s only one version that shows Jo prioritizing the giving part of art and marriage over any selfish gain, and I hate that the ending muddles it so badly for the sake of misplaced meta-feminism.
