There, peeping among the cloud-wrack above a dark tor high up in the mountains, Sam saw a white star twinkle for a while. The beauty of it smote his heart, as he looked up out of the forsaken land, and hope returned to him. For like a shaft, clear and cold, the thought pierced him that in the end the Shadow was only a small and passing thing: there was light and high beauty for ever beyond its reach.

Well, you stood there with me in the doorway. My hands shake. I'm not usually this way, but... you pull me in and I'm a little more brave. FEARLESS ERA Taylor Swift: The Era's Tour (Taylor's Version)

But Daddy I Love Him is so close...SO CLOSE to a a Blank Space-level iconic meta track...I hope she leans into that anthem energy and orchestration approach in the future.

"I'd say the 1830s but without all the racists" is a truly embarrassing lyric, taylor.

"But poetry is not a marketing strategy or even an aesthetic — it’s a whole way of looking at the world and its language, turning them both upside down in search of new meanings and possibilities. It is also an art form in which, quite often and counter to the governing principle of Swift’s current empire, less is more."
"Sylvia Plath once called poetry “a tyrannical discipline,” because the poet must “go so far and so fast in such a small space; you’ve got to burn away all the peripherals.” Great poets know how to condense, or at least how to edit. The sharpest moments of “The Tortured Poet’s Department” would be even more piercing in the absence of excess, but instead the clutter lingers, while Swift holds an unlit match."

I really don't want to seem rude! I was re-reading BMTL and notice tha to today marks two years from the last update (so, happy birthday bmtl chapter twelve?) everyday I feel more that veep is definitely a dying fandom. my question actually is: how well you separate the characters in Iannucci's era and post-Iannucci?
I hate how Mandel ruinned the show and find incredibly hard to think about Veep without thinking at that awful final season, it gives me a cringe sort of feeling
Hi there! Thanks so much for writing in! And it's totally fine to notice that it's been a while since I updated Bring Me to Light...it has, indeed, been a little over two years, mostly for reasons having to do with my job and not having a lot of time to devote to writing (this is also why it took me so long to answer your ask!). But I've recently gone through a major milestone at work and am looking forward to having more free time this coming year and thus am really hoping to return to the fic! (and also do things like respond to asks on Tumblr more efficiently). Dan and Amy and Cassie are starting to tease my brain again...
Of course, as you mentioned, the Veep fandom is pretty quiet nowadays...I don't necessarily like to use the word "dying" because at some point it does make sense that fan activity around Veep would quiet down...we're coming up on FIVE years since the show ended, and it never had a huge fandom in the first place. However, I do think the way the show ended probably depresses current engagement with the show...as we get farther and farther out from the show ending, it's becoming very obvious that the show really went out with a whimper, not a bang, because of Mandel's botched attempt to turn Veep into Arrested Development.
But at the same time I do miss the sense of community around the show on Tumblr, answering asks and analyzing...it makes it harder to feel motivated to write fic!
As for how I separate the Iannucci and Mandel versions of the characters, to me it's pretty easy considering how different they are! Like, S7 Dan does not resemble in any way S4 Dan, so it's not hard in writing to just totally discount that vision of the character. I think it also helps having my own fic universe to play in...BMTL draws some elements from S5-S6, mostly having to do with the plot (Jonah's political trajectory and the timeline of Amy's pregnancy, most evidently) but I think my vision of Dan and Amy as a couple (as well as their career trajectories) is much more inspired by their dynamic and experiences in the Iannucci years of the show.
Thanks so much again for writing in! If there are any other BMTL fans out there, know that I'm emerging from my work hole and have the bandwidth again to talk all things Veep and BMTL!
