#witchwithmewellness mini challenge (as always with Insta challenges I'm a day behind) . . I'm going to combine the witchy prompts with a bit of a meet the maker style thing to keep it on topic with my artwork . . Yesterdays prompt was Candle Magick. I mainly work with black or white candles, using then to process thoughts and banish negativity. I connect well with burning things so tend to write things down and burn them as a way of processing things and changing the way I look at a situation. . Candles also play a role in creating my Artwork. . . I like to burn a significant candle or incense when I'm starting a big Art project to help get into the right frame of mind. It also helps if I can't get in the zone to create, I now associate those smells with Art time and creativity. . It’s #marchmeetthemaker and I totally forgot until today!! 😵 Luckily this was an easy one for me— “Favorite to Make” is a no-brainer. Working on this picture book was a dream come true for me, honestly. I had kind of given up on heavily pursuing the children’s book market because of so many projects that ended up going nowhere. I was worried this would be another one of those, but the writer was so passionate and knowledgeable (she’s a climate scientist with Harvard!) the writing was good, and the subject was something that fit my own passions (and style!) perfectly... it brought back that excitement again. I’m really proud of this project, and it’s something that was incredibly fulfilling to work on. . #meetthemakermarch day 16: Relax. . I'm one of those people who struggles to switch off and truly relax and the only way I can truly achieve relaxation is to go away and actually, I prefer this way of being! . But I adore simple things to switch off like sipping mint tea or homemade hot chocolate reading arty/beauty/fashion magazines (@bettymagazine and @caboodlemagazine are two faves) or reading arty/music books/documentaries. See a pattern here? 😅. But I'm really interested in history and politics so I being engaged with things like that as well. . And I love playing the piano when I can of course, and of course music in general, and also working on personal crafting projects. And finally cooking is such a joy for me. Today's one of those rare days that my Art room is semi-tidy, so I thought I'd take the chance to do one of those #meethemaker "here's a glimpse at my workspace" posts. . . So this is my Art 'Studio' also known as the front bedroom of our house. (One day I'd love to get a nice big shed in the garden, or maybe a loft conversion... one can dream!) . . I've always been a scavenger and most furnishings and storage in my art space were freebies I saved from skips. One man's waste is another's treasure. It's taken a lot of trial and error to make these odd bits and pieces work in the space but it's finally at a workable level. . . My system at the moment is an L shape of tables, one for drawing, one for experiments/ drying and one for cutting down work and packaging. There's usually piles of handwritten notes... to do lists and ideas loitering everywhere. Once in a blue moon it gets too much and I have a good sort sesh. -Epic bonus, today I've found some notes for some awesome ideas I had at the beginning of the year! I'll probably remember to start them soon... . . Just off shot is some garage shelves where I stack materials, reference books & on going projects. 'The Beast' aka my printer. And one side of the room is dedicated to boxed work ready to take to events .
