Religious Studies Term Of The Day: Sikh Reht Maryada

Hello everyone! Today I wanted to talk about my favorite thing in Religious Studies: texts! The written word is important in preserving the faith of a specific moment and justifying a new direction in the faith. Every religion has a primary text, such as the Adi Granth for Sikhs, but there are also supplemental texts that are used, and the Sikh Reht Maryada is one of them. This is the code of conduct for Sikhs with regards to birth, marriage, death, personal discipline, and community disciplines. The current version is a combination of codes dating from the time of the Gurus to 1950. So if you want to learn more about the faith and the Adi Granth is a bit hard to grasp, maybe this might be more helpful. Either way, I hope that you guys have a good day and stay safe.

Sometimes you want to bite your teeth into a rich canon with morally gray characters and no easy answers like Wolf 359 or Lawrence of Arabia (yes I know that movie has its issues), and sometimes you just want to sink into a soft canon with genuinely good people and soft endings like Ramayana (minus Uttarakanda) or the OT3: political power trio. (This night/week/month/year is really the latter.)

Some of these "sigmas" be having 'Jai Shree Ram' written in their bios and consider maryada purushottam their idol and then be following misogynists and commenting things like " jaake bartan dho/jaake khana bana/ ab ayenge saari feminist ki ch**i " under posts that be calling them out. Like dude first of all...do you even know who SHREE RAM was?? Or why he's known as MARYADA PURUSHOTTAM? Do you know basic manners?

They don't the first thing about Shree Ram. They don't know how to respect humans. They use vulgar/offensive words against women almost all the time.

Fucking infuriating seeing the some so called 'influencers' filling young people's brain with so much hatred and disrespect against women. More annoying that there's no more awareness about it and ppl are still taking memes like "women☕" lightly.

It's not funny being a hypocrite and saying "women☕" when a woman does something wrong and saying "The Boys" when men do something wrong. It is not appropriate and very disrespect when they say "go do the dishes" whenever they're called out for their mannerless behaviour.

The fact that rahul gandhi is actually following shri ram's principles, he's doing the yatra, meeting the people of the country, hearing their grievances and on the other hand the people who release rapists from jail and garland them are going to inaugurate the temple for maryada purushottam... what a irony.
