మర్యాద రామన్న [Maryada Ramanna]
Russian subtitles. So this is basically a re-make of Our Hospitality and the first half is really close structurally. But where the original was pure slapstick for laughs, this talkie is a bit heavier and more graphic. Despite being from 2010 it is a dated comedy film with the undercranked slo-mo and that recognizable bharat ADR sound.

Hey, could you rank every SSR movie from Absolutely Goated to Still good but worth watch again, and please provide reasons as to why you've ranked them as they are please? Pretty please 🥺👉👈
Ooo, what a task (I'm going to get beat up I'm afraid!)
but here goes, putting my life at risk: SS Rajamouli's movies (not in chronological order) with my ranking
Absolutely GOAT
Eega - Before he was Shyam Singha Roy in the body of Vasu, Nani was Nani in the body of a housefly and I find cinematic poetry in that. + The graphics, the music, the exaggerated comedy... Sudeep knows exactly what he's doing with his lines
Magadheera - (he really has it out for reincarnation stories doesn't he?) Charan's first real role (I hate Chirutha) The grandeur of the sets, the background here and there... Also the mass CGI with the gladiator audience was the new hot toy that SSR introduced. Anaganaganaga crawled so Ettara Jenda could run. (You know i'm right)
RRR - Just for Bheem's intro, it deserves an oscar. I'm one of the people who think Naatu Naatu was good, but not THAT good as they made it out to be. Also, RRR gave me the first himbo couple I could ship openly. My grandma agrees because the only dispute she had with RRR is that Ram had to pee and poop in that cell. No disagreement against RamBheem being the Tollywood IT couple
Chatrapathi - it gave teluguvallu fantastic inside jokes like: a. Tala tintada mondema? (will the shark eat his head or body first?) b. Suridu? YADUNDAVAYYA? SURIDUUU (Suridu, kaha ho? Suridooo) c. OKA ADDUGUUUU☝🏽👣 (one step, I want one step) d. Violin champakura babu (chatrapathi and simhadri kill our brain cells with the violin music in the climax emo moments, i always want to pull my hair out) - but also, Chatrapathi had a good bgs, worked fantastically for hero-uplifting moments like the interval and okka adugu scene
Bahubali: The Beginning - Only and only for the interval scene and the architecture of Mahishmati. TOP TIER. The loopholes and characterization of Avantika could have been way better. Pacha Bottesina was totally unnecessary
Good, Can Watch Again
6. Vikramarkudu - Chintata chita chita chintata TA! (teluguvallu can translate this into literally anything) 7. Yamadonga - just for the RAMBA, OORVASI, MENAKA moment I take away 5 points from the 10 points it earned. Tarak and Priyamani was a pairing I didn't know I needed 8. Maryada Ramanna - Sunil anna I love you anna but this wasn't your movie. This is the cycle's story, and that one song in the train. the screenplay is a cart wheel without the cart. It's funny in some places but Brahmaji dies FOR NO REASON. JUSTICE FOR BRAHMAJI 9. Simhadri - I didn't really feel for the characters. BUT. BUT BUT. I have to say this because it's been stewing in me for so long: Simhadri's interval scene ran so Bahubali 1's ending twist could fly. I said what I said y'all know it's the same vibe we all catching.
Eh, One Time Watch
10. Sye - it doesn't seem like an SSR movie, but it's not that good. Young Adult revenges were in trend when this was made and it fit well with its counterparts. Sometimes I even forget that Genelia and Nithiin did indeed work with Rajamouli 11. Student No. 1 - not that special, honestly early-career Tarak's movies just blend in my head: SN1, Aadhi, Samba... but hey at least SN1 started a long lasting kinship 12. Bahubali: The Conclusion - THAT IS NOT SIVAGAMI! HOW DARE YOU! this is beyond ooc, it's not a character at all. At one point I thought they'd bring out a tantrik doing black magic to change Sivagami... And Devasena is not the best written character in SSR's filmography. This movie makes me want to scratch my eyeballs out. If only my mom had the audacity and hardheadedness to talk to grandma like this. Also... Avantika's leader, who is killed by Bhalla in the seige, IS DEVASENA'S BROTHER. and she just LOOKS as he's getting the life choked out of him? oo don't make me start about this movie I can rant for a loooong time
and so.... *flaps hands* that was it ig? thanks for the ask babu!

😂😂😂😂
This does sound like a very shenanigan filled party but i quite literally do not have the time to sit and see 9 movies. If you've seen and you have ideas, I'm happy to act as sounding board . Or if anyone else in the fandom feels they can tackle this, be my guest. But i do know when something is too out of my abilities and this is very much more than I can do.
I hope someone is able to write this for you friend, but unfortunately that's not going to be me anything soon 😅
Thanks for understanding 🙏❤️

★ Salman Khan taught me how to respect women, says Jaani choreographer of Billi Billi from Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan !
March 7, 2023
Salman Khan's new song Billi Billi from Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan has been appreciated for being a crowd pleaser and entertainer. ETimes spoke to the choreographer of the song Jaani, who revealed that working with Salman changed his perspective on several important issues in life. Jaani also reveals his experiences of working with Ram Charan and SS Rajamouli. Read on... How will you describe the experience of choreographing Salman Khan in Billi Billi from Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan?
He is amazing and it was fun to work with him. He feels no tension about the steps. He learns the steps on sets and performs them. Sometimes, if there’s something in particular that we need to tell him then we go to his house at Galaxy Apartments and brief him about it. I think there were 300 to 500 dancers in the song. Our DOP V Manikandan has shot the song beautifully as well.
Having worked with Salman Khan how do you rate his skill as a dancer? I worked with Salman Khan in Jai Ho but I was working under Radhika Rao back then. I worked under Prabhudheva Sir on the Seeti Maar song. Billi Billi is my first-time choreographing Salman Khan on my own.
He has rhythm in his body. He always suggests that whatever dance steps he does should be easy for the fans to emulate. He wants the songs, even if it’s an item song, to have dignity and grace. So that when the item song comes on TV people shouldn’t change the channel. They should be able to watch it with family. He thinks about people and which steps would look good if people perform them. Both of us think that our dance steps should be easy to do for everyone from a child to an old person. We used to gym together. I have learned a lot from him. From him, I've learnt how to stay down to earth and how to behave with people who are less privileged than me and how to respect women.
How did you sign on to choreograph Billi Billi song?
I got a call from Sharmila ma’am who is handling the film's production. She said, Bhai wanted to meet me. Then Bhai told me to come over to discuss things. I have choreographed five songs in this film. We did the first song in Hyderabad. And slowly I did all songs one by one. There’s one big song that I have choreographed for this film where Ram Charan makes a cameo appearance. Ram Charan sir gave me my first chance in a film. I was supposed to do Magadheera with him but missed out on that. Later, I got to do the film titled Racha (2012) with him. You also worked with SS Rajamouli after that. Rajamouli sir is my Guru. When I started out as a choreographer, I had gone to the shoot of one of his films. He liked my style and picked me. He taught me the importance of timing and framing in choreography. How many shots to get as per minute of the song? I did Maryada Ramanna, Eega and Baahubali with him. We call him Nandi Sir, which means ‘very close’ and we call him ‘Jakanna’ too.

Tumblr media
S. S. Rajamouli is an Indian director, actor, and screenwriter, best known for his directorial work in the Telugu cinema. His most critically acclaimed work included directing fantasy action films Magadheera (2009) and Eega (2012) but his prominence increased even more with the release of the epic action film, Baahubali: The Beginning (2015). After the release of the 2nd part in the franchise, Baahubali 2: The Conclusion (2017), the franchise became the highest-grossing Indian multilingual film franchise of all time globally. In the box office, these 2 movies made approximately $260 million and made the release of the 3rd part in the series highly likely. The movies’ lead actor, Prabhas, stated that S. S. Rajamouli has already written multiple test scripts and presented them to him. మగధీర [Magadheera]
Russian subtitles. Maryada Ramanna looked more like 80s+ bharat cinema, yet this older film directed by S. S. Rajamouli looks fairly modern. The historical costumes and decorations are really how they should be. But also it’s a low-budget film, even if it was expensive by telugu standards of the time. You can expect compositing, and CGI not that drastically different from Tunak Tunak Tun. And…

Smash or Pass: SSR character edition
(if you don't know what Smash or Pass is, its basically a fun little Yes or No game on if you would like to be in a romantic relationship with a fictional character or not. "Smash" means "yes, I would like to be in a romantic relationship with this X character" and "Pass" means " nah, I'd rather be platonic friends with X character".
Disclaimer: I do not mean any relationship with the actors playing the characters. I refer some characters by their actor's names because i often forget the names of the actual characters
I'd like to inaugurate this ask with:
1. Chatrapathi - smash (do NOT ask)
And then onwards:
2. Ntr in sn1 - pass, too sappy for my taste
3. Ntr in Yamadonga - pass, except for that voni scene, it gets me every. damn. time
4. Nitiin in dhee - PASS, don't want me a man who gets his hw done by his friend
5. Genelia in dhee - smash
6. Rathore in Vikramarkudu - smash
7. Sweety in Vikramarkudu - pass
8. Nani in Eega - smash, marry, nee gundegootilo na gunde haayiga taladaachukundani telusu
9. Bahu - nope
10. Avantika - SMASH (without makeover)
11. Devasena - pass, I'd like to be her life coach instead, girl needs to go get some manners and an ego check
12. Bhalla - I answer for @sada-siva-sanyaasi and myself - SMASH
13. Bheem - Smash, HARD SMASH, I'd probably even sing him a lullaby as he curls up in my lap, our pinkies together
14. Ram - pass, he's like my brother.... and he's very emo. no emo for me thanks
15. Sita - Smash
16. Jenny - pass, we're besties, we'll probably be those besties who everyone thinks are secretly in love with each other tho
17. Sunil from Maryada Ramanna - nope, I'd like to give him a loan tho
18. Harsha from Magadheera - smash, with the armour on
19. Mitra from Magadheera - smash, maybe archery foreplay like in Princess Diaries 2
20. Ranadev Billa from Magadheera - pass. I'd like to recommend him a therapist instead, and keep him far away from netflix lest he binge You and get more creative
Thank you so much for the ask! It was such fun eee haha! *Squeals*

[mumbling into the void since yelling into the void demands far too much energy from my bleh self]
aight I know PMS is hitting me hard when my dad's flicking through channels and I watch less than five minutes of Bahubali and I want to start bawling.
It wasn't even that sad.
????
It was the scene when he's being exiled and he's talking about being at the crossroads between "the dharma you taught me and the law I abide by" (I suck at translation but know that it was a really good line) and I am a SUCKER for the queen mother in every scene she's in so there's that. Also probably didn't help that I was feeling especially bleh for reasons and at this point I think looking up a good hurt/comfort fic and having me a nice cathartic cry would do me good.
bleh.
or if the [redacted] results could come out and give me some clarity in life, that would also be appreciated. Or even if my prof could just stop texting me I HAVE ANXIETY and she keeps freaking me out with every notification. Also. She did her PhD in the same city as the institute I'm applying to and so she's very nicely asking me stuff about it and accommodation and pointing out stuff which is very nice and all but she seems to be operating under the assumption that I'm definitely getting the seat. Which I might not!! So that's stressing me out because I don't want to text her later saying I didn't get it :(
aaaaaaaaaaaaaah
anyway i think i might want to rewatch bahubali?? very unexpected. legit, i never thought I'd be comfortable enough with [nebulous concept of culture and language] to watch a telugu film alone. Oooh if i ever feel comfortable enough doing it i should watch maryada ramanna again!

Maryada Ramanna - The fairest judge of all...
Ramanna is a folk hero from Andhra Pradesh who was affectionately called Maryada Ramanna. He was a royal judge. The Amar Chitra Katha on Maryada Ramanna says he was the fairest judge of all. Maryada in colloquial Telugu means wise, fair and just.
Tumblr media
Not much is known of his antecedents or parentage. However, his appointment as the royal judge is an interesting tale in itself.
One day, young Ramanna and his friends were playing on the streets and simply whiling away their time. They heard an old lady muttering to herself, cursing her fate, lamenting the fact that she was all alone in this cruel world, and that she wished she were dead. Her pitiful wailings made Ramanna curious. He approached the old lady and enquired what happened. The old lady poured out her frustration.
The old woman made her living by taking in lodgers. She had four men in her lodge at that time. One day, they came to her, gave her a sealed brass pot, and instructed her to return the pot only if all four of them were to ask for it. The old woman innocently took it and kept it in her safeguard.
Tumblr media
A few days later, the four of them were sitting on the verandah of the lodge, when a buttermilk seller came that way. They decided to buy some buttermilk and asked the youngest of them to go and fetch a pot from the old lady. This guy went in and asked the old woman to give him the sealed pot instead. Naturally, the old woman declined.
Tumblr media
The young man insisted and confidently asked the old woman to check with his friends for herself. She screamed to the others, from her window, if it was ok for her to give the pot. The unsuspecting mates replied back to her to hurry up, thinking their colleague had asked for the buttermilk pot, wondering why the old hag was bothering them for such a small matter.
Tumblr media
The old lady hands over the sealed pot to her lodger, who quietly walks out through the back door and disappears. Some time later, the other three barge in and ask the old lady where their partner is and why there is such a delay about a simple pot for buttermilk. The old lady tells them that the fourth lodger had taken the sealed pot and gone somewhere through the back door. That's when it strikes them - all of them have been fooled!
The angry trio scream at the old lady, tell her in fury that the pot contains gold coins, that the fourth partner has absconded with their gold and that if he is not found, she has to pay them back. The stunned old lady pleads innocence, reminds them that she had cross checked with them and only then had she given the pot. The angry lodgers refuse to listen to her and drag her to the royal court.
In those days, the king used to hear cases and dispense judgement. When kingdoms became large and the king became busy, he would appoint a judge on his behalf.
The royal judge heard the case. And proclaimed that the old woman had to recompense the three lodgers by an equal number of gold coins as they had claimed there were in the sealed pot.
The old lady did not have that much gold. Even if she managed to get hold of it somehow, she was ruined. More than anything else, what rankled her most was the injustice of it all.
Ramanna heard her out patiently. He was convinced that the lodgers were thieves, the gold in the pot was stolen and that the judge had not delivered justice in this case. In a fit, he raised his voice and criticized the king for having appointed such an incompetent person for the job.
Some passing soldiers heard a young boy criticizing the king, didn't like it and dragged him to the king's court. The amused king challenged Ramanna if he can do a better job.
Tumblr media
Ramanna confidently took the judge's seat, called for both parties, heard both sides of the story again, and dispensed justice.
He said, "Of course, the old woman has to return the sealed brass pot to the lodgers, but only when all four of them come and ask for it." He instructed the three lodgers to go and get their fourth partner first.
The king was so amazed with this display of wisdom from such a young lad, that he appointed Ramanna as his royal judge. Lore has it that rich or poor, small or big, man or woman, any body who came to Ramanna's court got only one thing - Justice. Hence he was called Maryada Ramanna. The ACK titled on him contains many beautiful stories of wit, wisdom and a sense of justice.
Tumblr media
In 1967, a Telugu movie was made on him. It was called Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna.
What is special about this movie is - in this movie, a young singer called S.P. Balasubramanyam debuted. Balu or S.P.B as he was called, went on to have quite an illustrious career in movies, singing playback for more than 40000 songs in 16 languages, garnering 6 National awards for playback, 25 Nandi awards (A.P state government awards), many Filmfare awards and was conferred Padma Shri (in 2001) and Padma Bhushan (in 2011) by the GoI.
