so funny to me that like in the modern era of country music (especially women in country music) i believe that kelsea ballerini is one of the biggest names in country music and yet she’s playing only 10 (general admission) shows on her tour

Context what started this: Cassadee Pope and Maren Morris called out Brittany Aldean for a comment she made, Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson got involved and now the rest is history and Mrs. Morris is a legend! Marren calling Brittany an 'Insurrection Barbie' really sent me into another dimension.

unreal unearth first impressions
OKAY REALISING I AM RELISTENING TO THIS ALBUM FOR THE HUNDREDTH TIME JUST TODAY ACCIDENTALLY SO IIM GONNA QUICKLY WRITE DOWN MY FIRST IMPRESSIONS BC IM ALREADY BEGINNING TO ACTUALY THINK ABOUT THINGS AND LOOK AT LYRICS AND READ OTHER PEOPLE'S OPINIONS, so here is an only slightly tainted not quite first impression of unreal unearth from me (obviously the singls ive heard before but)
de selby (part 1) i turned on the album sitting in the absolute dark, ten minutes past twelve at night, this started playing, cue instant tears. i think i was just hit with 'this is the most beautiful thing ive ever heard' and i wasn't expecting that from de selby 1 for some reason. and when the irish kicked in that just. no words, just crying and im what two minutes in. i wasn't even thinking about what he'd been saying about connemara in the dark and mirrors of people you used to know (i'd seen him talk about it, but purposefully skipped the actual song when it came up online) it was just. de selby 1. and the part as gaeilge
de selby (part 2) sexy groovy silly fun, it's really growing on me, thinking about 'i'd still know you, not being shown you
i only need the workin' of my hands' also i cant wait to read third policeman and look at this completely differently
first time the beginning was jarring, and then at the lyric about his name i kind of :( i also liked the lethe/liffey parallel, it's so very hozier of him to do that. god the push and pull of there must have been something off from the beginning? if every time they called him baby he died? something like that was my first interpretation, now im wondering if it's because it's not his name and they're the one that made his name sound wonderful for once. intellectualising that part of the lyrics kind of ruins it for me ngl, i think it's more about how it feels, i think it feels like contrast like not knowing if it hurts or is wonderful. little detail of when he says come here to me and it sounds so casual and irish like come here to me tell me, i really love it. and the final lyric hurt. really impeccable timing for a breakup album like
francesca why can't i listen to i'd tell them put me back in it for the first time again WHY CAN'T I LISTEN TO I'D TELL THEM PUT ME BACK IN IT FOR THE FIRST TIME AGAIN AND REEXPERIENCE THAT. my favourite thing from this hozier era might just be that music video (over all the other ones help)
i, carrion (icarian) is just really devastating. sunlight but what if you wanted your heart to be torn to shreds. the imagery is so vivid
eat your young is growing on me too, the lyrics are just so good. they're just SO GOOD, their rhythm is so satisfying they fit together so smoothly, and at this point it's just as fun and danceable as something like de selby 2
damage gets done is kind of pop? it made me think of the bones ft marren morris
who we are [had to remove a section here] the vocals are otherwordly. the drums are gorgeously frantic. quietly it slips through your fingers love??? falling from you drop by drop??? HOLD ME LIKE A KNIFE???makes me physically ache
son of nyx i'm so glad this is here, an instrumental was something that really could put me back to where i was mentally with de selby (part 1). first thing i thought was i can't wait to learn the piano part. i've seen people say this, but it does seem like the obvious, it's an instrumental that just belongs in a movie
all things end all things do end so real. very cool how much of a direct inflence gospel music is
to someone from a warm climate (uiscefhuarithe) i can't wait to relisten to this one again and again, the parallels between being a child warming up a bed and jumping to later in time with a lover aaaa so tender NATURAL AS ANOTHER LEG AROUND YOU IN THE BEDFRAME AAAA
butchered tongue A FAVOURITE A FAVOURITE foreigner's god but softer, how can i listen to this and ever leave ireland how can i listen to this and feel like this and be packing suitcases what is wrong with meeeeee. the violin and the instrumence. jesus christ. instantly picturing my road signs when he started singing about the native ones
anything but THIS SONG STARTED AND I INSTANTLY STARTED SMILING COMPLETELY INVOLUNTARILY, THOUGHT OF ALMOST (SWEET MUSIC) i started thinking of bright lion king imagery before he even started talking about stampedes and hoofbeats. and the vocals here too, so overwhelmed by how cheerful and joyous it sounded that i really didnt pay attention to lyrics, so it'll be cool to look deeper later
abstract (psychopomp) the production here i was very unsure about, because there was something that made me think if it were more rustic/intrumental and less modern, it might have hit me even harder, like there might have been a way to elevate it further. it made me think of colours and purples and reds and oranges, another really visual song, like i, carrion. it's really gorgeous. SEE HOW IT SHINES will be in my head for a long long time... ugh it's all so bittersweet and sad and beautiful. all my love and terror there balanced between those eyes what a line
unknown / nth if you've scrolled through my accunt for longer than a second you know how i feel about unknown / nth
first light i was hit with such intense terror that this was the last song of the album. what am i supposed to do for the next decade without music to look forward to while andrew goes back into hibernation under bray train station jean jacket lost and found or whatever. so i didnt play and instead did this musing on how beautiful the vocals throughout the album are and how funny it was in the zach sang interview when he talked about singing instead of playing instruments when recording songs because he's 'better at singing than most intruments' and his producer just wouldnt replace those voice recordings and that's why there are so many choirs and zach is basically like 'you absolute weirdo no one else has the talent to do that but ok' (affectionate) (paraphrasing). i love the drums so much. i love the strings so much too. A VOICE YOUR BODY JUMPS TO CALLING OUT YOUR NAME :(((((((((((( imagining hearing this in the 3arena and having colours break out across the whole ceiling ill remember those lights during no plan in 2019 forever im an indoor concert girlie forever what they can do visually is so magical.. i saw a good omens edit of this today already i love you good omens fans
not to sound like a broken record i wish swan upon leda and through me the flood and love of were on this and maybe even but the wages and

While protesting Tennessee’s drag ban, country music star Maren Morris challenged state officials to arrest her for introducing her almost three-year-old son to some drag queens.
This year, Tennessee became the first state to pass a law restricting drag performances. It also recently passed a particularly chilling ban on gender-affirming healthcare for transgender youth that even requires youth currently receiving gender-affirming care to detransition.
Morris was among a host of celebrities who performed at a benefit concert on Monday to oppose the anti-LGBTQ+ legislation. Afterward, she wrote on Instagram that “Love rose up.”
“Thank you Nashville, the gorgeous Queens and the LGBTQ+ community for showing up last night,” she said, adding that at the concert, “A lot of healing happened and it won’t be forgotten.”
As part of the post, Morris included a video of herself on stage at the concert in which she declared, “and yes, I introduced by son to some drag queens today so Tennessee fuckin’ arrest me.” She was met with thunderous applause.
instagram
Commenters thanked her for modeling allyship.
“From the bottom of my heart, thank you for letting your actions match what you say that you believe,” one person wrote. “Thank you for screaming your support from the highest rooftops and modeling what true ‘allyship’ looks like. You’re light and you’re love. Keep on keepin’ on— it’s more appreciated than you’ll ever know.”
“Thank you for being such an inclusive voice for country music and the world!” said another. “Your son is so fortunate to have you for his Mama and we are fortunate to be able to hear your message through your music. Keep up the good fight and love will eventually drown out the hate!”
Morris has long been a warrior for LGBTQ+ rights. Last year, she raised over $100,000 for transgender support organizations after Tucker Carlson mocked her on air for standing up for trans people against transphobic comments made by Brittany Kerr Aldean, a beauty lifestyle influencer married to Grammy-nominated country music artist Jason Aldean.
Carlson called Morris a “lunatic,” and a “fake country music singer” after a Twitter battle between Morris and Aldean in which Morris called Aldean a “scumbag human” and “Insurrection Barbie.” Aldean had tweeted that she was grateful to her parents for “not changing my gender when I went through my tomboy phase” because “I love this girly life.”
Morris responded to the video by writing, “You know, I’m glad she didn’t become a boy either because we really don’t need another asshole dude in the world. Sucks when Karens try to hide their homophobia/transphobia behind their ‘protectiveness of the children.’”
After Carlson took aim at Morris, she immediately mocked his insult by publishing a fake image of herself with a chyron from Carlson’s show declaring her as a “lunatic country music person.”
Morris then published a tweet announcing the sale of a t-shirt with the words, “Marren Morris: Lunatic Country Music Person” on it. The shirt also had the phone number of the Trans Lifeline, a peer support phone service run by trans people for trans and questioning peers. She said all proceeds would be split between Trans Lifeline and the GLAAD Transgender Media Program.

I’m an Nandermo shipper and listen to Taylor, too!
As a Swiftie and Nandermo shipper, are there any songs you associate with the two of them? What would your Nandermo(TV) look like?
What a delightful ask! There are absolutely songs I associate with them in Taylor's body of work! Thank you for giving me this opportunity to gush about it!
In the interest of not going WAY overboard (there are SO many songs where I could relate just a line or two, but those lines really HIT), here are 13 songs that scream Nandermo (Taylor's Version) to me, and a little about why for each song/the line(s) that really sealed it for me.
tolerate it - Just sad Memo hours. Pay attention to him, Nandor! Show him some appreciation! I listen to this and just picture Nandor reading while Guillermo tries to talk to him, Nandor rebuffing Guillermo's attempts at hugs, Nandor saying "not you Guilermo" and taking all his hard work as a familiar for granted. The bridge of this one KILLS me when I imagine it coming from Guillermo.
You're Losing Me (From The Vault) - More sad Memo hours. I've been trying to make a whole fanvid to this for months now, but I keep getting stuck on what clips to use for some parts and I can't look at it anymore. The whole song being underlined by/referencing heartbeats definitely contributed a lot to this pick lol.
Would've, Could've, Should've - Yet more sad Memo hours. There's quite a lot of that on my Nandermo TV, unfortunately. :((( The religious imagery, the reference to being 19 (around when Memo and Nandor would've first met), the themes of loss of faith/loss of innocence/corruption. Oof.
Let's Go (Battle) - That's right, some unreleased songs made it on here! But would it even be a Nandermo playlist without a reference to their fights? This one is Memo, not eager to use his slayer powers against Nandor, but more than willing if Nandor pushes him too far/doesn't give him another choice. "We had it all but you couldn't keep a promise" also fits rather well, unfortunately.
Cold As You - Alas, sad Memo hours once more. I promise some of these are from Nandor's perspective. "You put up walls and paint them all a shade of gray / and I stood there loving you and wished them all away / And you come away with a great little story / of a mess of a dreamer with the nerve to adore you." This one always makes me think of Guillermo begging Nandor not to leave for the Wellness Center or go into Super Slumber. :((
Haunted (Taylor's Version) - You'd think this would be all Memo to Nandor, but no. This is both of them throughout seasons 4 and 5. If I had to parse it out, I'd say verse 1 is Nandor during season 4/5, second verse is Guillermo during season 4 especially, and the bridge is Nandor when he's processing that Guillermo was turned by someone else (that awful moment when he's like "a vampire...who was not...me?").
The Last Time (feat. Gary Lightbody) (Taylor's Version) - Guillermo when he's making one last-ditch effort to communicate with Nandor before he goes off to get Derek to turn him at the end of season 4.
Bad Blood (Taylor's Version) - Nandor's period of vengeful brooding once he realizes that Guillermo was turned by someone other than him. I actually have TWO versions of this song on my Nandermo playlist on Spotify, neither of which is the original artist lol. I love the original, I just wanted a different vibe for that playlist. But on Nandermo TV it's obviously gotta be Taylor's Version!
I'd Lie - Another unreleased song! This is really both of them, because they both deny how much they mean to each other at various points in the story. Not every lyric fits perfectly, but the ones that don't can be handwaved so easily (Nadja is like a sister to Nandor, right? Basically? And Nandor's favorite color may not be green but Guillermo wears it all the damn time, so it could easily be his).
You All Over Me (feat. Marren Morris) (From The Vault) - Both of them about each other. They just can't untangle themselves, can they? Every time Guillermo leaves, he ends up right back by Nandor's side as soon as Nandor calls. And every time Nandor swears he's going to go do something different, he ends up back with Memo. Even though neither of them are getting exactly what they want from the other, even though it's like death by a thousand cuts (heh), they'd rather have less than they want than nothing at all.
So It Goes... - They're so messy and obsessy and what is this if not the messy obsessy love/lust song? "I'm so chill but you make me jealous. But I got your heart skip-skipping when I'm gone." "You did a number on me, but honestly baby who's counting? / I did a number on you, but honestly baby who's counting?" In-fucking-deed!
Afterglow - Nandor trying to reach out to Guillermo and mend the rift between them for ALL OF SEASON 5!!! (I'm still not over it.) "It's so excruciating to see you low / just wanna lift you up and not let you go / this ultraviolet morning light below / tells me this love is worth the fight."
Daylight - This will be theirs when Nandor finally gets his shit together and figures out that missing his humanity and being lonely are part and parcel of the same thing and, frankly, have the same antidote of being honest about his feelings and letting the person who's been there this whole time finally get close. "I've been sleeping so long in a 20-year dark night / now I'm wide awake / and now I see daylight." "I once believed love would be burning red / but it's golden like daylight."
BONUS TRACKS (because you know our girl loves a bonus track!)
Foolish One (Taylor's Version) (From The Vault) - This one ALMOST made the cut, but for the lyric "he just wasn't the one." This playlist was already so Sad Memo Hours heavy, and also I believe Nandor IS the one for Guillermo. They just need to figure it out.
I Knew You Were Trouble (Taylor's Version) - Now it's angry Memo hours! Some thoughts during the Freddie-Marwa debacle, I think. "And the saddest thought / comes creeping in / that you never loved me, or her, or anyone / or anything."
Thank you again for this ask! It was so much fun!

the thing about the doc too is that it didn't need to include all that political stuff. it could have very much been about the aftermath of 2016 into lover, where her thought process was, how she was coping with fame, etc. including the politics in all of that was a choice on her part, and because she made that choice, she created a new set of expectations for herself. politics is something she can choose to stay out of, if she wants to, but that isn't something fans of color, queer fans, etc can do because they are so intertwined with our lives. and having someone you respect and look up to talk openly about how she wants to speak up for you and your community, and then..... not do that? it hurts. i don't want to speak for anyone else but myself as a queer person of color that's a fan of hers... it was like she gave me hope things would change and then has slowly squashed it over the past few years.
i think it's kind of cruel and pretty upsetting for white fans to make us feel like we're expecting too much or have unrealistic standards when a lot of it just feels like hopes we had, based on things she said. she didn't have to say those things or include them in the doc but she did, and it's really painful not to see any follow through.
imo taylor was genuinely wanting to speak up and was frustrated her speaking up would be such a big major thing that everyone would make it about her (taylor breaking her silence, taylor speaking for the first time, taylor this, taylor that) when in reality. it's not about her but she (like the rest of us) wanted to attention on racism and the homophobia.
and i fully respect that from her pov, she was told not to say anything because of the industry (like what happened with the chicks before and now marren morris) and her own team and i liked those parts because it did give us an insight on how it was for her because she was a thirty year old just wanting to say !!!!! what the fuck is this !!! about the state of her country. so like. i get it. and i think she felt a sense of freedom that she could now say things she wanted that prompted her to say other things (i wanna wear pink and tell you how i feel about politics, the next time something happens, you better know where you stand, etc) but i think she's really scared to overstep, she wants to say something so it could mean and do something but imo is not realizing there's so many ways to amplify people's experiences and stories instead of having to write statements and speeches (which like. pride speech this year? no further comment but don't make it about yourself and your own pain)
i agree with you that it's painful to not see more because it felt like it was a 2019/2020 thing (she's done things again in the future but the peak really was then) and if she's found her voice, if she's fought her team so hard, shouldn't she continue and go beyond just voicing her frustrations at america but hey this thing happened in another country that is upsetting, there are some resources to know what's going on, what people from there have to say, etc.

Commin at you with Day 3
A song that reminds you of summertime
Play It Again by Luke Bryan or 80s Mercedes by Marren Morris
Tough, tough decision. I'm in my summer mindset but my summer isn't summer-ing!
Happy Wednesday -🩵
it's pretty cliche, but i have two of them. the first one is no surprise. the second is all Real Genius' fault AGAIN.
i make no apologies. and summer is going by at mach 10.
