Hi! I just recently finished all of the canon TBS content and I’m now such a huge fan!! I’m really normal about Mark (lying).
I had a few questions! In your idea of post-TCT, does Alex ever reunite with the Unusuals? Do Mark and Beck realize they in fact have TWO troubled friends in common? What was Alex up to in the three years since TAMA if not reconnecting with his friends??
Thank you!
GREAT question!! I definitely think that Alex reunites with the Unusuals--in fact, I don't think he ever fell fully out of touch with them.
After everything that happened in A Neon Darkness, I think the Unusuals have a bit of a difficult time really relaxing around each other and also figuring out their own individual relationships to their abilities. And for Alex in particular, he had to focus a lot of his energy into controlling his power after everything Isaiah did to him and also dealing with his drug addiction. So, I think, out of all of them, he kinda fell off the face of the earth for long periods of time (as he was already prone to do) and then when things got really bad, I think Indah and Neon probably helped him get to The AM in California that eventually transferred him to Boston.
Marley--Beck, that is--probably moved away a few years after the events of AND. I bet he had semi regular phone calls with Neon as he was going through grad school, and then probably hosted Neon and Indah when they moved East (I think they're now somewhere in Maine or Vermont or something). I don't know how often they see each other, and I think Beck is probably extremely protective of them, so hasn't mentioned them to anyone he knows.
I think after the events of TAMA, Alex spends a lot of time recovering and taking it easy at, like, a nice spa somewhere. I also think he and Beck probably have seen each other a few times--once Alex realized he was on the East Coast, I bet he texted Beck and was like "hey, I'm in a weird hospital in Boston, wanna come up and visit me?" which I'm sure Mark and Beck realize at some point! I like to think they all get together for a coffee or something. Even though Beck has been texting and talking on the phone with the rest of the Unusuals for ten years, he does miss hanging out in person with them, so he, Alex, and Mark all probably become buds and spend time together while Alex is still recovering at the Boston AM.
I'd guess that, now, Alex is somewhere quieter - possibly with Indah and Neon at the summer camp for Atypical teens that I've always imagined they run. And I'd wager that he keeps in much more consistent touch with his friends when he's not actively with them - now that he has his power under control, and is sober, he can really begin the journey of healing that he's been wanting to go on for a long time, and I think he and Mark really help each other in that regard. Actually, I bet they eventually get to such a good place as individuals that they look at Beck and are like "okay, dude, your turn, you have NOT dealt with the PTSD that you have from your time in the military and also the whole thing with Isaiah, and then Blackwell, and also seeing everyone's gruesome pasts, literally how are you standing right now" and they make him go to therapy lol.
We're so happy you love our show!! Thanks for the question!

Day seven; the party
A/N: Happy Halloween! -Danny
Pairing: Platonic!Everyone xgn!reader
Words: 1,035
< prev - Halloween 2022 mlist
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Leo had been anxiously waiting for you, you were wearing a matching costume, so you obviously had to show up together to get the effect you wanted. Once you were done, you made your way to the party meeting a few friends in the way.
You had to admit the decorations were far better than the ones you’d done last year, but this year Leo had been in charge of it, and you’d helped, so you weren’t that jealous. Some people had decided not to wear costumes but they were enjoying themselves pretty well, you spotted Percy and Annabeth, and the young man’s eyes lit up at the sight of you and Leo.
“You did it! Man, you two look amazing!”
“It was so hard to get a resistant fake pumpkin head,” you admit, looking at Leo’s mask proudly. “But hey, he gets to light himself on fire without harming anyone and looks really cool while doing it! It’s a win-win.”
 “What are you guys?”
“Callum and Rayla,” Annabeth points at the purple marks under her eyes.
“Oh, I love that show! I knew you guys were looking familiar!” Leo says. “Great choice!”
“You guys saw Frank?” Percy grins. “He came as a trollhunter.”
“What!” You quickly push through calling for your friend, finding him talking with Piper and Jason— who decided to dress up Captain America. “Oh Gods! Look at you!”
They compliment your costume and ask about Leo, who’s a little behind since you decided to sprint across the place to find Frank the trollhunter, once he finds your group he comes with Thalia, Reyna and Calypso. Thalia is dressed as a knight, and Reyna is weeping lady— she called it “La llorona”. Calypso can’t be seen under the bed sheet, but her eyes are very bright and happy, and her voice is blithe, so you can tell she’s having fun.
A voice comes from behind you. “Great party, kids!”
Apollo and Meg are also wearing matching costumes: Lester is the little girl from Hocus Pocus and Meg is Winifred’s undead boyfriend Billy.
“Really outdid yourselves, all of you,” Meg says approvingly. “Didn’t think Romans knew how to be fun.”
“Hey!” Jason frowns. “We invented fun.”
“That’s such a lie,” Thalia teases him. “But I also think you guys did an amazing job.”
“Very good for mortals,” Apollo admits with a playful grin. “But nothing like a godly party. Maybe we should make the next one in Olympus.”
Everyone looks at him in horror. Frank gulps. “Not sure that’d be as fun for us as for you, buddy.”
“Oh c’mon! I’ll tell everyone to keep themselves from killing any of you for fun! I promise I’ll watch your back!”
“Absolutely not,” Piper frowns. “Drunk Gods are more dangerous than any monster, no one wants to be around that!”
Everyone agrees, and Lester has no choice but to admit defeat. However, Meg pats him on the back and offers an alternative.
“Well, we can always do it in my house? I mean, I know nymphs and satyrs love to party, so...” she looks at the rest of you. “If you’re interested in keeping up the tradition of changing up the place and host...”
“If you’re up for it, sure,” Leo says slightly surprised. “But you have school and all, Meg— we can help you out.”
“Hey, she’s got a God for that,” Lester says defensively. “But I wouldn’t mind it if some of you decide to hang out before the party,” he puts an arm around your shoulders and squeezes. “Would love to spend more time with my friends. I don’t see you as often as I’d like... and I still have godly duties to attend, so I might need help with a few things.”
“Cool!” Frank pats his back. “Have fun.”
“Now let’s stop thinking about the next party and enjoy this one!” You exclaim, grabbing Leo’s wrist. “Come on, Jack, I want to jumpscare Nico.”
Tumblr media
You did jumpscare Nico. At what cost? Well, now you were running for your lives from a few angry ghosts that he’d sent to chase you.
You were laughing hysterically though, which was not helping you get away any faster from the current threat, and you only got rid of them until you promised not to do that to Nico ever again.
“I know you liked it too, though!” Leo says reproachfully. “You’re laughing!”
“I’m laughing because I saw you run around like headless chickens for the last ten minutes,” Nico smirks, grabbing the drink Will was offering to him. “You’re in your twenties and you still act like the teenagers we met years ago. That’s embarrassing.”
You could tell he wasn’t that upset about it, however. Nico liked seeing his friends having fun, even if sometimes that happiness came from his own embarrassing moments, sometimes looking silly was worth it.
“At least they didn’t scare the children,” Will says.
“Who do you think we are?” You say in outrage. “Scaring children? We’re not assholes!”
“Yeah! Besides, Y/N already does that without trying to on a daily basis, so it’s not exciting anymore.”
You push him sideways and Leo chuckles. “Rude!”
“You guys tried Hazel’s Jamaica’s water?” Will points to the drinks he and Nico are holding.
“I gave her the recipe,” Leo winks at him. “Great for Halloween if you ask me, right? She wanted something that wasn’t like soda for the sugar-free people. I thought this was the right choice. I mean, it’s red.”
“It’s really good,” Nico hums.
You support one arm on Leo’s shoulder. “Another successful Halloween for the demigods, one for the books, am I right?”
Leo snorts, poking your side. “We’ll never be able to thank you enough for starting this in the first place,” he says dramatically.
“Oh, you don’t need to, I live to please the masses,” you wink at him, then your smile fades a little. “That sounded wrong.” Leo’s smile grows, you frown at him. “I messed up.”
“Do you please the masses, Y/N?” He asks casually.
“Don’t you dare.”
“I have a mass that you could pl—”
“Nico, I’ll pay you five drachmas if you send more ghosts after Leo.”
“Deal.”
“NO—”

invisible string
read on Ao3
Missing scene from Mark of Athena- Annabeth realizes the curse of Achilles is gone.
Annabeth wasn't one to call fighting monsters fun, but she might just have to make an exception for ones made of tar.
Okay, so the actual monsters hadn't been fun. And really, fighting monsters was never really fun. But she couldn't deny that there was something exhilarating about fighting alongside Percy again, after so many months apart. She had been worried that they might be out of step, that the distance and the time might have weakened the bond they shared. That Percy's memories wouldn't quite be the same, or still be distant and fuzzy like Jason's. But they were as in sync as ever. As soon as the first monster had risen from the tar, all it had taken was one glance to solidify their strategy for dealing with it.
Add in Percy's new shape-shifting friend Frank for a speedy getaway, and Annabeth had the most fun she had had in months. Of course, there was still the minor issue of actually getting the ship in flying shape once they got back. And being separated from Percy again, even if it was only a few floors away, instead of hundreds of miles. And the aftermath of trying to get the tar out of her hair– that had been something Annabeth seriously never wanted to repeat.
But something was bothering her, something she didn't have the time or mental energy to explore until she was sitting on her bunk, trying to dry her hair. Percy had fought impressively; he always did. But he hadn't been the one-man army Annabeth had gotten accustomed to, during and after the war. He hadn't been invincible.
She wasn't sure– wasn't positive– but her gut was telling her that something was off. And she thought she might know what, even though the thought of it made her stomach do somersaults.
They were going to have a meeting in the mess hall soon, and she didn't have a lot of time. But she had to know. So Annabeth slipped out of her cabin, making her way towards the one she knew Percy had claimed an hour or so earlier. She knocked, but didn't wait for a response before opening the door.
"Hey," Percy said, sitting up from his bunk. He looked pleased to see her, his classic troublemaker smile tugging at the corner of his lips.
"Hey yourself." Annabeth said, letting herself in and shutting the door behind her. It wasn't technically allowed for them to be in the same room together alone, especially with the door closed, but Annabeth had brought her invisibility cap just in case. She could probably slip it on fast enough to avoid being caught. Probably.
Percy scooted over, making room on the bed for her. She sat down next to him, and he wrapped his arm around her. It felt so nice to just be together Annabeth almost didn't bring it up, but the long, shallow scratch on the arm holding her made that impossible.
She traced the scratch with her finger. It shouldn't have been possible, and yet here it was, staring at her in the face.
"It doesn't hurt." Percy said, noticing her attention, but misreading her concern.
"But it shouldn't be there." Annabeth said.
Percy looked at her strangely, like he didn't understand what she meant. Annabeth felt a cold and familiar fear in the pit of her stomach. Ever since they had cracked Hera's sick riddle and figured out that Percy and Jason had been swapped, Annabeth had been haunted by the very real possibility that even if they managed to find Percy, he wouldn't remember her. Obviously that hadn't happened, but this wasn't a small thing either. What if Percy's memories weren't as intact as he was letting on?
"The curse of Achilles," Annabeth prompted, trying to keep the fear out of her voice, "You should be invincible."
"Oh! That." Percy said, recognition finally flashing across his face. Annabeth was suddenly torn between abject relief and the very strong urge to yell at him for making her panic. She settled on relief.
"I had to give it up when I crossed the Tiber.” Percy explained, “Hera– or Juno, whatever, she said it was a Greek curse, that I couldn't carry it into Roman territory."
Without thinking, Annabeth took her free hand and slid it around Percy's back, brushing her fingers over the small of his back, his Achilles heel. Percy had told her that it felt like a thousand little lightning bolts were racing up and down his skin, when she touched it. She remembered the look in his eyes when he had guided her fingers there for the first time, equally terrified and exhilarated. She got no such reaction now; just a sort of sad apologetic look.
She pulled back her hand. Annabeth had already known intellectually that it was gone, but it still felt like something had snapped inside her.
"Oh." Annabeth said.
"Disappointed?" Percy asked. He was studying her expression carefully, like he was trying to decipher a puzzle.
Annabeth sighed. She'd originally started calling him Seaweed Brain because he could be so obtuse sometimes, especially when it came to reading her. He hadn't even realized she liked him after they'd kissed in that stupid volcano, for gods' sake. But the longer they knew each other, the more difficult it became for her to hide anything from him. He was actually surprisingly perceptive, especially now that he knew to be looking.
"No, no." Annabeth said, wrapping her hand in his, "I just– I don't know. It feels like a bad omen."
"I've honestly gotten used to not having it." Percy admitted. He interlocked his fingers with hers, and Annabeth was pleased to find that they fit together as perfectly as they had before. That, at least, hadn't changed.
"You never really needed it." Annabeth said, truthfully. Percy had always been a skilled fighter. And, okay, maybe it had been necessary for the war, but only because they had been so hopelessly outnumbered. But unless they were facing 250 monsters to one demigod again, Percy could easily hold his own without it.
"You're still upset though." Percy noted.
Annabeth bit her lip. She felt a bit stupid for it, but she wasn't really upset about Percy losing the protection. Sure, it sucked that he was a little more breakable now, but he hadn't exactly been very breakable to begin with.
In truth, she felt worse that the connection between them forged by the Achilles curse had been wiped away. Not just her having taken that knife for him, though that was part of it. Percy had told her later that the thing that had kept him tethered to his life, to himself when he bathed in the Styx had been her. She had been his lifeline, literally. Maybe that was how she had known to take that knife for him in the first place, because that little spot had tied them together in some hallowed, inseparable way.
And now it was gone, along with their matching grey streaks, the only other physical reminder of the bond they shared. Annabeth was embarrassed to admit how much it had upset her when the grey had finally worn out of her hair.
"It's just... I don't know. It feels someone cut an invisible string between us." Annabeth said.
Percy nodded, like he understood, and Annabeth knew he did. knew he was thinking of all the same things she was. As if to prove it, he took his free hand and brushed the one curl that had once been grey behind her ear. She, too, could pick out his strand of hair that the sky had marred, even if it had turned dark again.
"I felt like that too, at first." Percy admitted, "I didn't want to give it up. I knew it was important somehow. But I also knew if I wanted to see you again, it was the only way."
Annabeth looked in his eyes, warm and earnest, and felt something in her chest glow. It was still incredible to her that he had remembered her, despite Hera's full force. She knew it had to have been him, and just him; Hera hated her too much to leave the memory of her in his mind.
"I guess I can deal with you being a little more delicate. As long as we're together." Annabeth said. Percy smiled, squeezed her hand.
"Delicate, huh?"
"Like fine china." Annabeth teased, "I'm going to have to watch out for you."
"You always watch out for me." Percy smiled.
"Somebody's got to." Annabeth said.
They sat quietly for a minute, just enjoying each other's company.
"You're still my lifeline, you know." Percy said, suddenly, "Wiping away the curse didn't change that."
It was Annabeth's turn to squeeze his hand, because if she tried to speak she thought she might cry. She settled for kissing him instead, slow and sweet, revelling in the fact that he was finally back with her again.
They only broke apart when Annabeth heard footsteps coming down the hall. She managed to shove her hat on just as Piper knocked on the door.
"Come it!" Percy called, desperately trying to straighten out his shirt. Annabeth bit down the urge to laugh.
"Meeting in the mess hall in five." Piper said, poking her head in the door, "You too Annabeth."
"She's uh- she's not here." Percy said. It was so deeply unconvincing, what with Percy's flushed face and mussed hair, that Annabeth actually had to cover her mouth to prevent a giggle from escaping. Piper smirked. Even if she hadn't been a daughter of Aphrodite, the scene would have been fairly obvious to most onlookers. And Piper was most definitely a daughter of Aphrodite.
"You're a terrible liar." she said, amused, "But whatever. If you happen to see her, could you let her know?"
"Yeah. Yup. I can do that." Percy said, but Piper had already disappeared down the hall. Annabeth shimmered back into view, unable to hold back her laughter anymore.
"Is she always like that?" Percy asked, his face still red.
"Oh yeah. I think you're going to like her." Annabeth said, standing up, pulling Percy with her. They walked down to the mess hall hand and hand.
So maybe the curse was gone, and the grey streaks in their hair had faded away. But they didn't need those physical reminders of each other, not really. He had remembered her, and she had found him. They were tying new invisible strings to each other, ones that couldn't be severed by any sword, or any river or any god.
And Annabeth had a feeling this was just the start.

California Dreaming pt 3
Shout out to Tim Cook, the most boring commencement speaker like, ever. You’ve inspired PJO fanfiction. I am sharing this in smaller portions because I’m incapable of working on large text documents. Part 4 coming soon. Read full story on AO3
3 weeks later:
“…it is an honor to welcome you all to New Rome University's 125th commencement ceremony…”
Annabeth inhaled, steeling herself, taking it all in, then she exhaled in a loud breath. The morning was too bright, her brow pinched as she squinted at her surroundings, and the five-story arena they’re all crowded into seemed to gleam more than usual. It was enough to make her head ache.
She was in a Coliseum for gods’ sake. Because of course the arena in New Rome was modeled after the famous structure. The Greek in her wanted to wince at the on-the-nose mimicry. The architect in her was impressed by the modern adaptation and the homage to classic details. She had already committed to being on her best behavior, but the whole morning was shaping up to be a bit much. Nonetheless, neutral expression was her goal, as the Chancellor gave his welcoming speech.
“You all join thousands of scholars, authors, scientists, leaders, innovators, and thinkers in a centuries old tradition…”
It’s just… it wasn’t supposed to be this hot in the bay. But the sun was strong today, so much so that Annabeth found herself wishing she'd had Sally’s foresight and donned a wide brimmed hat like the ones her boyfriend’s mom and sister were sporting. Instead she sat in the cement stands using two programs as a visor, every now and then checking the status of the red flush blooming on Paul’s forehead and cheeks. And the beads of moisture, gathering incrementally at his temples.
“This is a landmark moment, the culmination of a lifetime of hard work and dedication…”
They’d arrived at the stadium early too, because Sally wanted good seats. The procession of graduates didn’t emerge for another hour and a half after they had settled in the stands. Her friends were spread throughout; Grover, Charles, Silena, Rachel and other Greeks that had made it sitting in a section to her left, Hazel, Nico, Piper, and Jason somewhere high up, to her right.
It was fine. They were here for Percy. And Frank. To celebrate.
That's what she told herself as she unstuck her dress from her sweaty thighs.
“And to all of our graduates, I encourage you to look into the stands. Find your family, your friends, your loved ones. The people that encouraged you, supported you, who danced and shouted and cried with you. Today we celebrate them, too…”
He owes me something real good, she thought to herself, for putting up with all the pomp and circumstance that’s coming with his graduation from this school. Mind on all the ways Percy was gonna make it up to her, she fanned herself with a program and settled back for the celebratory display.
It wasn't all punishing rays and sticky thighs though; the ceremony was touching in moments, electrifying in others. Touching when the procession of graduating students had poured onto the field; several students had broken formation to meet family members hanging at the edge of the stands for a brief embrace. Percy had searched them out in the crowd, spotted them, then blown dramatic kisses in their direction, finishing off with a two-handed "rock on" salute. Electrifying when the announcer prompted each cohort to give a battle cry. That sound, all the voices of graduates bellowing their affiliation, whether they had fought in the legion or had family that fought, accompanied by the reverberating tones of the Roman cornu, struck a note, something she felt in her chest even when the echo had subsided.
But the waiting, and the speakers, some engaging, others that should have never been passed the mic, had Annabeth digging her phone out of her crossbody bag so she and Estelle could occupy themselves.
And then, the final straw; the main speaker took the stage, a big Silicon Valley tech guy and a Vulcan legacy, and, gods above, Annabeth couldn't take it. She fell asleep, the drowsy heat was her blanket, hands folded in her lap and chin tucked into her chest.
After what felt like half a second of shut eye, Annabeth was jarred awake by loud, metallic clangs. Slightly startled, she looked behind her to see a girl, probably in her teens, apologizing as she picked up the water bottle she had dropped. Rubbing her nose tiredly, Annabeth looked to her right, there was Sally, leaning against Paul with her hand on his thigh, as they listened to the speech like the smug, functional adults they were.
Then she looked down, just as Estelle's gaze popped up, green eyes finding her gray ones under the brim of her hat, momentarily pausing her digital fruit popping to gleefully announce, "I saw you sleeping!"
"Yeah," Annabeth cleared her throat. She picked her hair up off of her clammy neck, shook it out, and set it back down. "Can I see my phone?" She searched for Percy's cap covered head as she asked. Bingo. Just as she thought.
Estelle’s answering “of course” was very polite, but she was reluctant to hand the device over, peering up at Annabeth's face as if to double check if she was serious about her request. Annabeth retrieved the device, clicked out of the game and opened up her messaging app. glancing at the field every other second, then started typing.
A: Percy.
A: Percy.
A: Peeeeerrrrcccyyy.
A: Perseus Jackson.
A: Hey
A: Hi
A: What’s up?
A: Hello?
A: Buenos días.
She watched him jolt, shoulders shifting as he fumbled around for his vibrating phone. A couple seconds later...
P: You woke me up
A: I know. I could see your head drooping. I’m trying to save your neighbor from a drool stain on his gown.
P: Har har, nice one haven’t heard that before not.
P: Are you telling me you’ve managed to stay awake for this whole speech?
She took a moment to respond, she could lord this over him, falling asleep at his own graduation ceremony, but honesty is the best policy or whatever, and it’s actually hilarious how absolutely, horrifically, indubitably  boring  the selected speaker is.
A: No. I was knocked. The girl behind me dropped her hydroflask and woke me up.
P: This feels illegal.
P: I thought I was done sitting through lectures.
A: You’re almost there. You got this.
P: No. I’m not gonna survive this.
A: Very dramatic.
P: Tell my family I love them.
A:  😒
P: And I’ll miss them.
P: We had a great run .
A:  😒😒😒😒😒
P: Maybe you could send a hot pic?
P: One final act of kindness? 🥺
P: Make-a-wish style?
A: That’s your dying request?
P: Yup.
P: Boobies maybe?
P: A pic I haven’t seen before?
She scrolled through her camera roll.
P: I was joking.
P: Sort of. Not really.
P: Please don’t do anything reckless.
She sent him a picture.
P: Holy shit.
P: I’m awake.
P: Have I told you I love you today?
Annabeth laughed, pushing her hair behind her ear before she brought her screen up to type her response.
"Sweetheart, I’d like to assume that you aren’t the reason Percy is openly texting during his commencement ceremony."
Annabeth’s head jerked up and to the side as she hastily locked her phone.
There wasn't a single adult that Annabeth adored as much as she did Sally Jackson-Blofis, but also maybe feared a little bit? It was the mother of her boyfriend (future mother-in-law?) thing. Sally loved her like one of her very own, but on the topics of misdemeanors, misbehavior and all the other ways she could be corrupting Sally's beloved firstborn child, Annabeth lost every bit of her nerve. Blame it on childhood trauma, and her desperation to avoid giving her loved ones a reason not to love her. She'll probably have children of her own and still be looking for Sally's approval.
Annabeth winced in Sally's direction. "Sorry."
Sally didn't appear to be truly bothered as she looked out into the field, "At least he's not sleeping anymore."
P: Why is he yelling now?
P: Does he think yelling will make this any easier to bear?!?!?!
P: Praise Olympus he's finishing I think.
P: So you're ignoring?
P: You woke me up, just to leave me hanging?
P: Cold hearted 😔
P: I won’t forget this
P: mark my words
P: you’ll rue this day
A: We've been busted.
A: Stop texting. Focus on commencing.
P: Busted how?
P: By who?
A: Your mom does not approve
P: Tell her I'd be passed out on the field if you hadn't texted me.
A: No.
A: You tell her.
The bubble appeared, indicating that he was replying, then it vanished.
Annabeth got a notification of a group text, the group consisting of herself, Percy and Sally.
P: Mom I'd be passed out on the field if Annabeth hadn't texted me.
S: Get off of your phone now 😡
By the grace of the gods, the speaker finally wrapped up his monotonous ramblings. All that was left was the handing out of diplomas and the final address.
The rest of the ceremony passed in an energetic blur. There was a familial spirit in the stadium; people shouting and whistling and blowing horns and instruments to announce on no uncertain terms, 'yes, that's my loved one, I'm proud of them.' She felt it around her, in her. It made her holler for Frank, and whistle for Tobe and Simon, the other graduating seniors that lived in that little New Rome apartment that had been a second home to her. It made her stand up and jump with Sally when Percy's name was called. It made her scream louder and more joyously than she could recall ever screaming in her life.
And then it was done, and everybody was screaming again but also moving.
She turned to see Paul lifting Estelle onto his back as people seemingly began shifting around them at once, more or less in the same direction.
"The parking lot situation is going to be a nightmare," said Paul, worriedly observing the churning crowds.
"No, I can't imagine this small town gets this many people more than once a year." Sally picked up stray programs and their bag of snacks. "If we hurry, we can get out of the parking lot before there's too much of a bottle neck."
They were on the move.
"Can I use the restroom?" This was from Estelle.
Paul and Sally exchanged a look. "Oh sweetie. Is it bad? Do you have to go right now?"
"No, only a little."
"Do you think you can hold it?"
Estelle nodded confidently, one arm tightened around Paul’s neck while the other adjusted the lopsided hat on her head.
"Okay. That's what's gonna have to happen, because I doubt the bathroom lines are going to be bearable." Sally increased her pace, leading them out of the stands. "We just need to grab Percy, we'll meet everyone at the restaurant, Estelle can use the restroom there, and... yeah." She looked back to see everyone's expressions. "Does that sound like a plan?"
Annabeth gave her own confident nod. “I’ll go find him,” she said.
The group split, Paul, Sally and Estelle making a break for the parking lot, and Annabeth doubling back towards one of the field entries/exits, hunting down Percy's tall form in the outpouring of students shrouded in purple.
Annabeth spotted him, doing one of those handshake hugs with someone she didn’t know, nodding and laughing as they were carried with the flood exiting the tunnels.
She hadn’t even meant to, but she found herself practically running towards him, weaving through a sea of purple figures until she was right there in front of him, throwing her arms around his neck as he picked her up to wrap her in a bear of an embrace.
“Oh man,” he was chuckling at her enthusiastic display. “I knew you’d find me irresistible with a bachelor's degree.”
Laughter bubbled from her when he started spinning with her in his arms, and she wrapped her legs around his hips to avoid hitting someone nearby with a flying limb.
He stumbled to a stop and, faces close, they both started speaking at the same time.
“Well I’m glad that’s over with-”
“I’m so proud of you-”
There was a steady thump of drums and harmonic cries of horns and pipes in the background: a celebratory soundtrack. Percy’s cap got dislodged when Annabeth sunk her hand into the hair at the back of his head to hold him in place and plant an enthusiastic kiss on his mouth.
He pulled back slightly after a moment thusly engaged. “You’re gonna make everyone jealous," he breathed with a smile. "Or at least uncomfortable.”
“Who cares?” She brought their faces back together and stroked her mouth over his. He responded immediately, parting her lips with his own and sliding his tongue into her mouth because honestly it was go big or go home and he’d decided that, today, he was entitled to a bit of a display. She had been snacking on oranges throughout the ceremony, not that he knew that until now, when he tasted the tangy story of it in the corners and surfaces of her mouth. He hiked her higher up with his hand on her thigh, her sandal clattered to the cement, and the loss of her shoe was enough to bring them back to reality.
They pulled apart, breathing loud and grinning like mad. Annabeth nodded to her shoe on the ground. Percy shrugged. She stuck her tongue out at him and he darted forward to lick the tip of her nose. There was that invisible string, connecting them, and they were grinning again, they couldn’t look away, they couldn’t help themselves.
She unwrapped one leg from his hips and reached for her shoe with her toes, finally finding the displaced sandal when she broke their connection and dragged her attention from his face to search the floor around them. Once she was properly shoe’d, he lowered her to the cement, adjusting her dress to fall smoothly at her thighs.
"Where’s everyone?" He trailed his hands down her arms and took her hands in his.
"Trying to get out of the parking lot before it becomes unbearable.” She fixed his cap back into place. They were jostled by a passing trio, and Annabeth got immediately shoulder checked by another hustling grad. “Come on," she tugged him forward. "I’m supposed to take you in that direction."
"Lead the way."
They set off, falling into step with each other, his arm wrapped around her waist and hers wrapped around his.
"Jackson! Annabeth!" They saw Frank, Hazel and Nico making a determined beeline in their direction.
The two groups fought their way to each other.
“I’m proud of you Percy,” Hazel fit herself to Percy’s open side for a brief hug. All of them were getting jostled, it seemed forward was the way to move.
“I guess they let anyone graduate these days.”
“Nico!”
Annabeth and Frank embraced.
“Hey guys,” Annabeth reluctantly pulled away from Frank. “Look, we've gotta hurry. Sally and them are pulling out of the parking lot.” She and Percy shared a nod. “And we shouldn’t keep them waiting. But we’ll see you at the restaurant!”
“At the place in Berkeley?”
“Yup! And congrats Frank! See ya there!” She called as they hurried off.
They moved away from the stadium now and headed into one of the main parking lots.
“You see them?” Percy asked.
“No… yes! There they are. White Toyota.”
“Yeah, I see ‘em.”
They jogged across the lot and jaywalked to reach the spot where Paul had pulled over.
Estelle was the first to comment as soon as the door popped open. “I saw you on the grass!”
“I saw you in the stands,” Percy shot back as he and Annabeth slid into the rental vehicle.
“Congrats Percy. This is a big moment.” From Paul.
Sally was quiet, just looking at him through the rear view mirror with full eyes and a small smile.
“Aw Ma-” This only seemed to escalate things, Sally tearing for real as the car started moving.
“I am so–” she paused, gathering herself. “So proud of you sweetheart. That's all.”
“Thanks,” he leaned forward and kissed her cheek over the back of her seat. “But also please don’t make a big deal about it. This celebration is for you too.”
She made a face like she was really attempting the no-tears thing and touched his hand where it rested on her seat.
“You’ve grown up so much-”
“Aww ma please-”
“No Percy, stop,” she moved his hand from where it was inching to cover her mouth. “Don’t you put that grimy hand on my mouth- Let me say this.”
He leaned his forehead against the back of her seat.
“All of us know how hard you have worked. I’m not just talking about grades. Both of you.” Annabeth, who had just been watching their exchange, sat up straighter when she was addressed. “You two and all your friends have worked through and survived more than most of the world population will ever survive in their lifetimes and you’re barely above drinking age!” She located some restaurant napkins in the glove compartment before refocusing on Percy, who looked apprehensive at best.
Cars in front of them honked as drivers struggled with the roundabouts and they weren’t so far from the stadium that they couldn’t hear the faint sound of a voice on the loudspeaker.
“You’re my son-”
“I'm your daughter!” Estelle chirped from her booster seat, tired of being ignored.
“Yes you are, baby. My rockstar princess.” Sally smiled at the girl.
“You,” she said with emphasis, attention back on Percy, she was not going to let him off the hook, “what feels like just a second ago, were the little boy who asked for blue candy from the shop and tried so hard to carry the weight of the world on his little shoulders.”
Percy turned his head, still pressed to the back of the seat in front of him, and made an exasperated face at Annabeth who made a tight lipped, ‘don't be rude’ expression right back.
“And even though,” all of them rocked as Paul hit a speed bump with a little too much force, “even though you’ve grown a lot bigger and stronger since then, I still see you carrying so much burden and it hurts my heart, it always will.” He shifted up at this, resting his chin on the shoulder of her seat while his hand sought hers out to grab onto.
“But you just did a really big thing for yourself. For  you  .” She tightened her hand around his for emphasis. “And I know you say you did it for me or Annabeth or Estelle, but I know you did this for you. And  that , you choosing yourself, makes me so damn proud.”
“Ma…”
“My little boy. You are so extraordinary.” She squeezed his hand again. “But you’re also my little boy.”
She looked past Percy to Annabeth. “Thank you for keeping him out of trouble. For taking care of him.”
At this point, Annabeth was emotional too, hugging herself as she blinked away tears. “We take care of each other.”
“I know. He’s a caseload though. You don’t have to lie, I had him for 18 years.”
“I love you Ma. You didn’t have to say all of that.”
“I know, I just,” she waved a dismissive hand in the air, trying to compose herself. “Big day! Big weekend.” Her hand lowered to impatiently swipe the tears off of her cheek.
Estelle, who had been watching with wide eyes, felt it was time again to intervene. “Don’t cry. It's okay,” her little hand patted Annabeth’s right arm, comforting her in the best way she could. She looked at her mom. “Don't cry mommy. It's okay.”
Paul cleared his throat. “These are good tears Stelle-belle. Happy tears.”
“Okay,” she sat back in her seat, hands under her thighs, only half believing her dad.
Percy turned to his sister and tickled her sides. “You better believe I’m happy. No more school? And I get to come back to New York?” She screeched and pushed his hands away.
“You’re gonna come back with us?”
He tugged on one of her long, brown curls. “Well, I’m not flying back with you guys. But in about a month, Annabeth and I are moving back to New York.”
“You’re gonna have your room back?”
“No, we’re gonna have our own place.”
“You’ll see us all the time,” Annabeth added.
Estelle gave Percy a long look.
“So are you getting married?”
Paul started chuckling. Annabeth opened her mouth but no noise came out.
Percy, the smug, sweet bastard, cut his eyes over to his girlfriend and grinned, “Yeah, eventually.”
“My teacher is moving to Texas with his girlfriend and they’re getting married.”
“Well Annabeth and I are gonna live in sin for a bit–”
“Percy! If you don’t… ” Sally, who was giving Paul directions, paused to scold him.
“What’s that?” Estelle sensed a forbidden topic in the air and was on its trail like a bloodhound.
“That means we’re gonna get a dog,” Annabeth succinctly ended the conversation. The look she sent Percy’s way now said, ‘you can shut up.”

hey!! i loved your hoo playlist! can you explain more or less where which book begins and ends? or just your thought process behind picking the songs?
omg hi!! this is going to be really long I’m so sorry... I vaguely broke them up by book and sorta character/event/theme, it’s not super strict or anything but that was the logic!
I kinda imagine it playing out like a movie or tv series.. and so some of these kinda play over a scene or transition to the credits in my head? some more than others! otherwise it’s like punny titles or just songs that remind of plot points!
Lost Hero
Tumblr media
- Goodbye Stranger - for Jason, since he has no idea what’s going on lol
- Teenage Dream - for the three of them, but mostly Piper!
You think I'm pretty without any makeup on You think I'm funny when I tell the punch line wrong
- Parachute - kinda Jason and Piper, I think as she realizes their relationship isn’t quite what it seems? (and just playing with his flying lol!)
- Metal Guru - Leo!
- Pretty Girl - Piper, I was imagining this when she clashes with Drew/learns about the Aphrodite cabin
And I could be a pretty girl Shut up when you want me to And I could be a pretty girl Won't ever make you blue And I could be a pretty girl I'll lose myself in you
- The Sky’s The Limit - when the three of them take off on Festus
- Snowqueen Of Texas - this was for Khione lol
I'm on my knees, your majesty; Snowqueen, save a cold kiss for me I'm on my knees your majesty
- Sweet Talkin’ Woman - this is book-wide but it’s for Piper’s charmspeak!
- Are You Gonna Be My Girl - is sorta general but I was imagining it when Jason and Piper kinda decide to be together/give it another go
- It’s Not Unusual - I think this was sorta the entire book/wider series but I just think it’s cute and fun and a Guardians of the Galaxy type end credits song? And just them accepting their very bizarre situation
Son of Neptune + Mark of Athena
I put these together because there wasn’t really a set bookend in my head!
Tumblr media
- Hello Stranger - finally reuniting with Percy! (and I wanted the Percy and Jason songs to mirror each other)
Hello stranger (Ooh) It seems so good to see you back again How long has it been? (Ooh it seems like a mighty long time)
- Diamonds - Hazel
- Don’t Go Breaking My Heart - Frank trusting Hazel with the wood, also Percy + Annabeth, everyone really
Don't go breaking my heart You take the weight off of me Oh, honey when you knock on my door Ooh, I gave you my key
- Beautiful Soul - I literally don’t know why I added this I just wanted an excuse to add a Jesse McCartney song (which feels so tonally correct to me?) but also I think it’s Frank liking Hazel in spite of her big secret and Percy loving Annabeth
- Pocketful of Rainbows - encountering Iris!
I don't worry Whenever skies are gray above Got a pocketful of rainbows Got a heart full of love
- Am I The Same Girl - Annabeth’s POV upon reunion!
Why don´t you stop And look me over Am I the same girl you used to know?
Why don´t you stop And think it over Am I the same girl who knew your soul?
- Bizarre Love Triangle - Frank, Hazel, and Leo
- Treasure - Hazel again + the literal treasure?
Pretty girl, pretty girl, pretty girl you should be smiling (you should be smiling) A girl like you should never look so blue (blue) You're everything I see in my dreams I wouldn't say that to you if it wasn't true
- The Sweet Escape - off on the Argo II
- Okay Okay - to Italy! and I just think Italian disco is so fun
- On An Evening in Roma - walking around Rome, seeing all its history
Though there's grinning and mandolining in sunny Italy The beginning has just begun when the sun goes down So please meet me in the plaza near your casa I am only one and that is one too few On an evening in Roma Don't know what the country's coming to But in Rome do as the Romans do Will you on an evening in Roma
- Stuck on the puzzle - Annabeth + the Mark of Athena
- Coca Cola - I was imagining the pirates+sacrifice to Dionysus/ his appearance
- Edge of Seventeen - I think Annabeth remarks to herself something like am I really going to die at 17? so this is for her and all the kids just on the cusp of being 17
And the days go by, like a strand in the wind In the web that is my own, I begin again Said to my friend, baby (everything stopped) Nothin' else mattered
- Landslide - when everything goes wrong and they start falling to Tartarus
Oh, mirror in the sky What is love? Can the child within my heart rise above? Can I sail through the changin' ocean tides? Can I handle the seasons of my life?
Well, I've been afraid of changin' 'Cause I've built my life around you But time makes you bolder Even children get older And I'm getting older too
House of Hades + Blood of Olympus
Tumblr media
these are more thematic I think? but a few moments in particular
- Head Over Heels - falling down...
I made a fire, and watching it burn Thought of your future With one foot in the past, now just how long will it last?
Something happens and I'm head over heels I never find out until I'm head over heels Something happens and I'm head over heels Ah, don't take my heart, don't break my heart Don't, don't, don't throw it away
- You and Me - Percy and Annabeth in Tartarus
If the stars don't shine If the moon won't rise If I never see the setting sun again You won't hear me cry as I testify Please believe me boy you know I would I lie As long as there is you and me
- Don’t Worry Baby - Percy and Annabeth in Tartarus, on the shore of the river
Well it's been building up inside of me For oh I don't know how long I don't know why But I keep thinking Something's bound to go wrong
But she looks in my eyes And makes me realize And she says "don't worry, baby"
- It’s Only A Paper Moon - the mist and Hazel starting to understand it
You smile, the bubble has a rainbow in it Say, it's only a paper moon Sailing over a cardboard sea But it wouldn't be make-believe If you believed in me
- Money, Money, Money - Hazel + Pluto
Money, money, money Must be funny In the rich man's world
- Magic - the whole story, but particularly with the presence of Hecate

- Love Really Hurts With You - Leo after leaving Calypso’s island
- What Makes the Sunset - Percy and Annabeth (and by extension Bob and Damasen)
What makes the sunset? What makes the moonrise? What makes the tide remember to hide and why does it soon rise? What makes a star fall? Where does it fall to? Why does its flight make us stop in the night and wish as we all do?
- Dedicated to the One I Love - everybody, but an ode to Bob and Damasen (their goodbye made me cry!)
While I'm far away from you my baby I know it's hard for you my baby Because it's hard for me my baby And the darkest hour is just before dawn
Each night before you go to bed my baby Whisper a little prayer for me my baby And tell all the stars above This is dedicated to the one I love
- Please, Please, Please, Let Me Get What I Want - Percy and Annabeth in Tartarus, I was thinking about this post-curses and them being so done with everything

- Seven Wonders - the seven! also traveling the world... making it this far
If I live to see the seven wonders I'll make a path to the rainbow's end I'll never live to match the beauty again The rainbow's edge
- This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) - to me this is just after Annabeth and Percy’s kiss, shots of everyone back to camp, wides of people running around, new cabins under construction, the sun is shining, the camera pulls out

A/N - Hey y’all! So here’s part 5….thank you for sticking around this long, I really do appreciate it. Just a lil warning, Part 6 may not be out for a while because it’s gonna take a while for me to start on House of Hades. I’m in the middle of a re-read, so please don’t get mad! Thank you again for supporting my page!
...
“Nico,” you breathed out, watching him spill out of the bronze jar. He wasn’t moving, except for the small rise and fall of his breaths. Releasing a sigh of relief, you focused your attention on the giants. Ephiliates stood in front of Nico, blocking off your direct path towards him. You glanced at Percy, watching your brother think. Watching his eye movements, you realized he had come to the same conclusion as you. You had to wait to attack until Nico had gotten a safe distance away from the giants, or they would kill him. Keeping your eyes locked on him, you urged him to wake up and crawl away. The giants were monologuing, so Piper and the boys were egging them on, also catching onto Percy’s plan. Nico slowly started to come to his senses, and although you noticed, so did Otis. His snake feet started flicking around Nico. Luckily Piper noticed and started talking about ballet, which clearly interested the lonely giant. The twins kept going, and you caught important parts like “Gaea is rising in a months time” and “We are not just a warm-up act”and something about circuses, wonder bread and letting us go. As confused as you were, you kept your gaze on Nico. With shaking arms, he dragged his lifeless body across the ground. You gave Percy the ’ok’ and he looked to Piper and Jason. “I’m getting tired of this guy's shirt,” he said. “Yeah, it’s too flashy,” you bad mouthed. “Combat time?” Piper asked, pulling her cornucopia out. All Jason said was “I hate Wonder bread,” before charging at the giants. You immediately split off from the group, determined to get the son of Hades away from the fight. Sprinting towards him, you gazed back to see the anti-Dionysius’s disappearing in a cloud of smoke before reappearing on the other side of the room. Turning your head back towards Nico, you saw two leopards coming towards him, and he had no idea. You pushed yourself to go faster, getting to Nico just as the leopards closed in. Slashing your knife, you realized you had no chance against these beasts. That was until Piper blasted a pot roast over their heads, which must’ve smelled a lot better than two demigods, because they went running after it. You saw Percy ducking a hydra, while Jason sparred with Otis. Piper was nearby, fighting off the leopards that were coming towards Nico. You got down on your knees, spotting no immediate threats, and shook Nico’s shoulders. “Wake up Death Breath!” you yelled, trying to get him out of his daze. While trying to wake him up, you didn’t realize your idiot brother was aiming a bazooka towards the hydra. He yelled “Duck and Cover!” before vaporizing the hydra. You watched as the other shots went all over the room. One exploded over Ephilates head, which was good, but one brought sandbags down on you and Nico. They rained down as you tried to pull Nico to safety, wanting to keep your promise that you would stay alive for him, but it was not enough. A sandbag landed on your shoulder, knocking you down while also leaving you and Nico helpless. Tears slipped down your cheeks as you watched the sandbags come fall, knowing that this was it. You squeezed Nico tighter, hoping he knew how much you loved him. That was before you heard a noise that you thanked Zues for. “Y/N!” Jason yelled dodging sandbags and running towards you. He hoisted you and Nico up, dragging you out of the sandbag pile. You quickly stood up, while Nico finally got out of his daze. Piper pointed out the controls to Percy, who destroyed the masterboard. Percy was turned, but not fast enough. Ephilates clobbered Percy in the chest with a spear, knocking him to the ground. Jason ran to his side prepared for a fight, while Piper, Nico and you watched, too injured to put up a good fight. The boys stood shoulder to shoulder watching the giants circle them. They threatened the giants, big words for such little people. Otis and Ephilates had waited long enough. They were going to attack when a voice spoke up. “Well, that’s a shame,” the new voice said. “I’d hate to think I made a special trip for nothing.” You watched as the god Bacchus walked forward. Deciding that he and the boys could destroy the twins, you paid attention to Nico. He had finally woken up, and was watching intently to the scene unfolding before him. You lunged at him, pulling him into a hug. He seemed confused at first. Maybe it was because he was just kidnapped by giants, you didn’t know. But he was safe now, and that was almost all that mattered. It didn’t last for long. Soon, you were in a stadium stand, holding onto Nico still. You surveyed your surroundings to find Piper and Bacchus next to you in the stands. In the middle of the stadium stood four figures : Two giants and two demigods, who you assumed were Percy and Jason. You watched as a nymph attended to Piper's arm, and another spirit gave Nico a Happy Meal from McDonald’s. One offered some ambrosia to you, and resisting was not something you were good at. So here you were, munching on ambrosia while Percy and Jason fought the giants. Bacchus assured you that he wouldn’t let them die, but you were getting a little sus. You watched as Ephilates swept Percy off his feet, and then dragged his spear tip down Jason’s chest. Piper cried out, as did you, but there was nothing you could do. You watched as the giant put his arms up to take the final strike, when a column of Greek fire blasted him. The Argo II came flying into the arena, landing in the center before 3 people came off. Leaning forward in your seat, you saw Hazel, Frank, and Leo rush towards Percy and Jason. Bacchus appeared too, destroying their giants with a flick of his pinecone staff. Before you could do much else, you were on board the ship and flying towards the Emmanuel Building. Percy looked over the railing, clearly worried about his girl. You scooted closer to him, wanting him to feel better. He and Annabeth would be fine. He turned his head to observe you, then gave you a side hug. “I love you,” he whispered. “I love you too Perce,” you responded, seeing the gray building grow bigger and bigger. You went below deck to find Coach Hedge, knowing he would want to fire the ballista straight into the ground. After you sent him up to the main deck, you went to the weaponry to get some ammo for the destructive weapon. You squatted down to the lowest shelf, finding the better explosives there. A squeaking floorboard alerted you of Nico’s presence. You spun around to find the Ghost King face to face with you. He looked you up and down, as if looking for something, when his eyes landed on your neck. There sat his ring, that you had put on a chain. It was his promise that he would make it back to you. “I guess I needed your help to finish my promise, huh?” he said, voice shaky. He looked up at you, and you couldn’t help but cry. You crashed into his arms, and cried. Your tear stains soaked his shirt, but he only held you tighter. He pulled away, looking at you once again. “It’s going to be ok now, alright?” he assured you. You nodded your head, feeling a weight lifted from your shoulders. You grabbed the explosives and headed up the stairs that led to the main deck, ready for a fight. You loaded up the ballista, watching Nico lean over the rail. Percy sharpened Riptide, with a grim expression covering his face. This was it. Coach aimed the ballista, and BOOM! There was a hole in the ground. Leo drifted the ship closer, only stopping when he was by the ledge Annabeth was standing on. You threw down the rope ladder, letting Percy down first. You frantically followed behind, needing to see Annabeth. Nico, Hazel, Frank, Leo, Piper, and Jason were quick to follow, wanting to help Annabeth as best as they could. Although they didn’t have much time for that, the crew did everything. You raced to the ladder, climbing up a couple of rungs to make room for Annabeth and Percy. But when you looked down, you saw Annabeth being dragged to the end of the pit. Percy held onto her, his feet dragging into the earth. You watched as your older brother screamed what may have been his last words. “Meet me on the other side!” he screamed. You didn’t have enough time to respond before you watched your big brother and your best friend tumble over the ledge, falling straight down to Tartarus.
I know I am bad for doing this, but here is the taglist -

Hi Kim! I hope you and your loved ones doing well in these days. I just wanted to say I really love your stories and it’s especially breaks my heart to million pieces that I haven’t read any new chapter of your GoT AU in one and a half year. I’m a sucker for that story but I understand that you have your own responsibilities, work, friends, etc. I also hope you can go back to that story one day! I‘ll be beyond happy even if you’ll be able to share a new piece of it like once you did. I love you!
Hey!! Thank you for checking in!! I’m trying my best with getting content out for my readers. I really do love my GoT AU and do I have a treat for you!! I was literally browsing my laptop and noticed this snippet. Decided to polish it up so enjoy some sexual tension between Got! Jason and Reyna.
@xstarsarewrong I think you’ll enjoy this.
Behind Closed Doors
“You don’t love me.” Jason turned at the frankness of his wife’s words, slightly hurt by her straight forwardness. Reyna lounged on his bed, running her slender hands over the soft furs. She’s an alluring vision. Her dark hair tumbled over her left shoulder, mused by his fingers when they kissed. The tunic she stole half open revealing her tan skin with light scars disappear underneath the fabric. He wanted to trace those lines with his lips, wondering what sound his wife would make. “Enjoying the view?” She asked, deliberately crossing her bare legs so the edge of his tunic would brush her mid-thigh.
“Very much.” Jason replied brashly, trying to hide how much she actually affected him. Reyna, former Bellona, now Jupiter, is a dangerous woman in body and name. She slashed a scar across the Great Hercules’ cheek, leaving her mark. She led her army in the middle of winter, laying siege on Olympus forcing the great family to cede. The woman who made Jupiter House bend a knee.
Why didn’t you destroy us? Jason wondered as he approached, running his fingers over the edge of the bed. His fingers grazed the tip of her feet, noting the shiver through her body. She isn’t impervious to him either. She studied him like a cat stalking her prey, appreciating his half clothed form. What is going on in that pretty mind of yours?
“Don’t lie to me, Jason.” The way she said his name tugged at his heart, forcing his eyes up to meet hers. It was a mix of a threat and promise. Her words always held a double edge. “This only works if we trust each other.”
“I know.” Jason whispered as he kneeled on the bed. The dip slid her towards him as he curled his fingers around her thin ankle, marveled at the softness of her skin. Their treaty is a balancing act, keeping the peace between the two families.
“What’s that noble saying?” Jason pondered as he stroked her leg, feeling wisps of hair brushing his fingertips. “Ah, ‘you don’t have to be married and happy.’ I hated whenever my father said that. Call me a romantic.” Reyna’s smile softened at his words as he inched closer to her, threading his fingers through her loose hair. “I don’t dislike you. There are so many couples who despise each other. I don’t want that.”
“How?” She whispered, lowering her gaze as she put her hand over his. “After everything I’ve done. You should hate me.” He should. Jason agrees. She nearly destroyed his family, his city, his legacy. She broke his engagement and forced him into this marriage. “How can you not hate me?”
Jason looked at their hands, feeling the callouses on the fingertips of hers. These hands took so many lives, causing destruction to his people. Reyna looked conflicted and confused at him, so ready for a fate of a loveless marriage. Jason hates that expression on her. He laced their fingers together and squeezed tightly.
“Maybe I’m a saint.” Jason murmured as he loomed over her form, pressing their foreheads together. His other hand hooked behind her leg, holding her close. Reyna gasped, placing her hand on his chest right over his heart. “But I have very unsaintly thoughts about you, my wife.” She chuckled lightly, stroking her fingers over his skin.
“Reyna, I hated you once a long time ago when you were the she-wolf, destroyer of my army, the Bellona girl. A faceless enemy. But now, I don’t. You did what you must to survive. To keep your family safe just as I would.” Jason tipped her chin up, forcing Reyna to look at him. “What I don’t understand is why, why would you ask for an union instead of destroying my house completely?”
“We met once.” Reyna confessed, pressing his hand against her cheek. “It was brief but it left an impression. You weren’t Jupiter scum. You were someone like me trapped in this game of Houses and power.” Reyna looked at him. Unlike Piper’s changing eyes, Reyna’s were solid black, steady and constant but still just as mesmerizing. “We shouldn’t have to pay for our families’ crimes. I wasn’t going to be the judge, jury and executioner. You deserve a change to rebuild. We deserve a change to live our lives. I’m sorry it’s me who has to be beside you.”
“Don’t,” Jason laced his fingers behind her neck, tugging her forward so their lips were inches apart. “Apologize. It’s not becoming of you. My wife is strong, beautiful and a force. I won’t have it any other way.”

Mark of Athena Re-read
Hey guys! If you’ve been keeping up with my last couple of posts, you’ll know I’ve been re-reading the Heroes of Olympus (HoO) series by Rick Riordan, starting with the Son of Neptune. If you want to my thoughts on it (spoilers included) and my background with the series, click here. I made a little bit of rant post about my feelings about the HoO series overall so far and you can find that here! This post will be about the Mark of Athena (MoA) and as always, spoilers abound.
Soooo y’all...I think this book is worse than the Lost Hero. I feel so bad for saying that bc I hated tLH (Like I’d give that book 2 stars) but god, this was so bad. No wonder I forgot what happened when I originally read it. Before I get into it, I will say I’m usually not negative in my ‘reviews’-I’ll give credit where it’s due (I did that in tSoN with Hazel and Frank who weren’t really my fav characters to start with) but this book has very little redeemable aspects imo. So I’ll start with the thing I was most irritated about: Piper.
Piper...Piper...Piper. Gods, none of her chapters ever passed the Bechdel test. I DESPISE her and I hated every single one of her chapters. With characters like Frank, I admitted that sometimes his chapters were a bit boring but I never hated the guy’s narration. Piper, however, is an insecure hypocrite. Let me show you.
So at one point, Annabeth, Piper, and Hazel meet up with Aphrodite. The POV is Annabeth’s and while Aphrodite is talking to them, it seems like Piper is just embarrassed to have her around.
“Mother!” Piper said. “You’re embarrassing me.” “Well, I don’t see why,” the goddess said. “Just because you don’t appreciate my fashion tips, Piper, doesn’t mean the others won’t. I could do a quick makeover for Annabeth and Hazel, perhaps silk ball gowns like mine—” “Mother!”
And a few lines later she says again “ ‘Mother, Piper said, “is there a reason you’re here?’” (30).
Okay so someone tell me why this girl says 10 pages later “But also, Piper was secretly hurt not to have her mother to herself. Aphrodite had barely looked at her. She hadn’t said a word about Jason. She hadn’t bothered explaining her conversation with Reyna at all. It was almost as if Aphrodite no longer found Piper interesting. Piper had gotten her guy. Now it was up to her to make things work, and Aphrodite had moved on to newer gossip as easily as she might toss out an old copy of a tabloid magazine” (40). LIKE GIRL MAKE UP YOUR MIND. Do you want your mom’s attention or not? But I’m highkey interested in what Aphrodite said to Reyna tho.
Let’s talk about Reyna for a second. First off, I feel so bad for her?? Percy turned her down-fine, he has a gf. Then I thought Jason had feelings for her but he says this in MoA, page 19: “It’s just…I never felt that way toward Reyna,” Jason said, “so I didn’t think about its making you uncomfortable. You’ve got nothing to worry about, Pipes”. Like damn can Reyna get any love?? I get that he doesn’t like her anymore since he met Piper but to have never liked her? That’s rough. And notice how this quote is from page 19, but again on p. 40, Piper is still so insecure in their relationship. I don’t she’s listened to a word he said at all. Then towards the end of the book, she says oh I love you but she literally didn’t know the man’s age prior to that. Like what?? Did they even kiss this book? I think like once lmao. Also speaking of the birthday thing, Piper says this while she waits for Jason to blow out his birthday candles.
“Well?” she urged. “Blow out the candles.”
Jason did. Piper wondered if he’d made a wish—hopefully that he and Piper would survive this quest and stay together forever. She decided not to ask him. She didn’t want to jinx that wish, and she definitely didn’t want to find out that he’d wished for something different.
Me @ Jason: This your girl? Come get her. Because Imma hurt her feelings. What do you mean you want him to wish to stay together forever? He should wish for Gaea to you know die so everyone can be safe. If I ever met Piper in person, I’d fight her. ON SIGHT.
In a related note, I’ve got nothing to say about Jason. He was fine. He passed out alot during this book, didn’t do much for how hyped his powers are supposed to be. I will say when he and Percy were possessed and they fought each other, Percy totally won that fight. He knocked Jason the hell out and was about to end his whole career until Piper got Blackjack to knock him out. But overall, I think Jason’s rather bland and him and Piper have NO chemistry. But I don’t think he deserves insecure Piper as a girlfriend. She’s a whole ass child of Aphrodite and she’s worried about her relationship...let me move on.
My main issue with the book lies in the structure and plot. The previous two books had 3 narrators and each set of trio had a specific prophecy assigned to them-i.e: Percy, Hazel and Frank had to free death, retrieve the eagle. The prophecies are a catalyst to get them to go on the quest. And then obviously, we have the overarching prophecy of the seven that will come to fruition in small chunks until the last book of the series. That’s fine. So the issue with MoA is that now Rick is handling seven characters + Coach Hedge (like why was he necessary??). He has 4 POVs which threw me the hell off bc we had 3 in the previous two books and honestly, I think we could’ve gone without one of them (Percy’s actually). As a writer, it’s hard to balance multiple characters in the same setting constantly. If they have a conversation, one or two of them will have less lines because other characters have already said them. Therefore to give everyone adequate ‘screen time’, Rick had to separate them by keeping groups of three or two on their own side quest. As a result, however, reading the book felt like I was being brake checked constantly. Ex-We follow Percy, Frank, and Hedge to an Aquarium then we follow Annabeth, Hazel, and Piper to meet Aphrodite, then they encounter the Romans, then Piper and Jason meet Hercules and get the horn and so on. Like they’re constantly shifting and doing stuff but not going as a group so it feels like I’m constantly trying to catch up. There’s too many pit stops for my liking. And I deadass have no idea what most of it had to with the MoA prophecy.
This disjointed-ness is what makes me rate it lower than tLH. Because while I didn’t like Piper or Jason in that book, it was still cohesive. There was a plot and it was followed. Another reason I might feel this way toward MoA is because Rick has a formula and it’s starting to be predictable. Think about the original Greek myths-there’s one main demigod like Hercules, there’s a quest, there’s godly interference so it makes sense the the PJO/HoO characters have the same thing. But all this talking to gods (esp gods we’ve already met like Aphrodite) is taking up so much space and slowing the plot. It also didn’t help that the minor villians in this book are all unlikeable?? All they did was talk. Otis and Ephialtes. Porchy and Keto. Arachane. All they did was talk. Here’s how to defeat a PJO/HoO villain: con them to help you/let you go or fight them. That’s it.
This book is where I started to really regret reading the series. Like I was just over it. The plot was somehow slow and all over the place at the same time. The last couple of chapters were good because I was like finally, something relevant to the prophecy is happening.
Let me leave you guys with some positives about this book though:
1. Annabeth’s POV. What a gal. When she faces Arachane, Annabeth mentions that she doesn’t have an active power like the other Seven but she has her intelligence. And I’m like yes girl, you are brave and everything I want to be. I would read the PJO series from her POV over this series.
2. Percabeth. They kept promising to come back to each other and my heart melted. Percy was so worried about letting her go follow the Mark but he knew it’s what she had to do and he let her go. And ugh, them falling got me all over again. And like just their chemistry is off the charts. Piper and Jason could never.
3.  Percy’s comments about Luke. Percy realizes that he’s around Luke’s age when Luke went all ‘Gods are bad, their children are pawns’ and like I get chills from reading that passage because you can tell Percy’s tired. He can’t have a life because of these quests, he’s constantly moments away from dying. He never really got a chance to be a teenager. And I get he wants to help people and keep the world from being taken over by bad guys but he’s also human. He’s seen demigods die...he’s traumatized. Like Percy, I really understand Luke better now (right idea, wrong execution) and l see how tired Percy is.
4. The Leo/Hazel/Frank disaster of a love triangle. Like I’ve mentioned before, I want Hazel, a THIRTEEN YEAR OLD child, to be left the hell alone when it comes to romance. But because Uncle Rick insists on pairing up everyone, I have to oblige. So here I am. The amount of times I cackled at Frank and Leo’s digs at each other is astronomical. Like shots were fired, no one held back. I was like is this even MG/lower end of YA anymore with all this salt?? Over the years I’ve been spoiled about the series so I know that Leo somehow ends up with Calypso so I know nothing will come out of the love triangle (and it seems to be wrapping up bc Leo and Frank complimented each other’s abilities toward the end there) but passive aggressive-ness was peak.
5. Every single conversation between Reyna and Annabeth. Like two powerhouses talking about wanting to save their camps and the world. I loved it. Hands down. I hope they can be friends when this is all over.
6. And lastly, the reunion of Percabeth. The Judo flip. The fact that Percy talked about having a future with her.
Thanks for reading if you made it down here and I’ll see you guys in a couple of days with my House of Hades update. This book and the one after it I’m reading for the first time ever so I’m going in semi blind (like I said, I know some spoilers). I’m currently on chapter 2 or 3 of that and ermm, it was a weak intro but I’ll keep going :) rooting for Percabeth to make it through.

Prompt: Kat and Adena are back in NY. Kat bumps into Trevor (Tinder date guy from 1x08) and he asks her for a second date, this time maybe with less alcohol. Kat is conflicted on whether or not to accept b/c her and Adena have yet to label what they are. Meanwhile Adena sees this interaction, but doesn't mention it waiting for Kat to bring it up.
I started to write this and then I forgot to post it because I’m the worst slash it was new years so here it is my anon pal.
(I took some liberties with this prompt because I don’t like the idea of Kat considering a second date with him.)
They’re at anart museum when Adena runs into an old friend, because of course Adena would find someone she knows at an art museum.
Kat tries reallyhard not to roll her eyes, but she squeezes Adena’s hand and gives her areassuring smile; Adena gives her a grateful smile back, an entire conversationheld between them in nothing but touches and facial expressions, and thenscurries off to where her friend is standing by a Frank Lloyd Wright piece.
(She has workthings to do, anyway, and this brief pause in their date gives her a chance topull out her phone without being scolded.)
Adena takes areally, really long time.
Kat sent twoemails out to her staff and an email to Lauren, tweeted about a dozen things, created an outline for the entire weeks’ Snapchat stories, and posted aslideshow of pictures onto Instagram.
She’s about toget up from the bench she’s sitting on (which, thankfully, was not part of an exhibit) (she checkedbefore sitting) and pull Adena away when she spots a person across the roomthat looks vaguely familiar.
Her phonevibrates in her hand but she ignores it, squinting her eyes to get a betterlook.
She’s prettysure that he’s a lot more than vaguely familiar.  In fact, she’s pretty sure she went on a datewith this guy.  With Jane and Sutton.
Kat shoves herphone in her bag and stands up quickly, but it’s too late.  He turns his head and suddenly their eyesmeet and it’s like a really bad scene from a movie, especially because sheabsolutely cannot remember his name and he’s starting to walk towards her.
“Hey, Kat!”
(Kevin?  Kyle? Adam?  Who knows.)
Kat looks overto where Adena is still talking, grey hijab around her head and bag slungloosely over her shoulder.  Adena isoblivious.
“Um.  Hi.”
“Wow, hey.  It’s been a while.”
Kat nods.  “Uh-huh.”
“You neverresponded to any of my texts,” he says, a dumb, annoying smirk playing at hismouth.  What’s his name?  Stephen? Adrian?  Isaac?  Literally nothing sounds familiar to her.
“I don’t thinkwe ever exchanged numbers,” Kat says, shifting awkwardly on her feet.  She tries not to look over at Adena again.
Justin-Mason-Roylaughs.  “Um, we totally did.”
“Huh.”
“Yeah, after webought that bottle of scotch and walked around with it.”
“Oh.” Kat nodsagain.  “Guess I drink a lot of scotchthat night.”
Carl-George-Davelaughs again.  “It was a fun nightthough.  I’ll admit, I was a littledisappointed when you left.” He rubs the back of his neck.  “Sorry if I offended you when we saw thatviolin player.”
Kat can’t helpit now, and she looks over at the Frank Lloyd Wright picture.  Adena is staring at her and she kind of wantsto melt into the ground and die.  Just alittle.
(She tries towill Adena to call her, something, sothat she has a better reason for extracting herself from this situation.  But apparently they haven’t reached thetelekinesis part of their relationship yet and Adena can’t read her mind.)
“Listen uh,”Paul-William-Blake takes a deep breath and Kat knows, she knows what’s about to come out of his mouth and she wants togroan out loud.  “D’you think, maybe, wecould try again?  Go out on anotherdate?  I think we could really havesomething.”
It takes all ofKat’s willpower for her to not deadpan with, “yikes.”
Instead shestutters for a few seconds, wrings her hands together, and says, “sorry, butum.  I don’t think that would really workout.”
“Oh.” He almostlooks surprised.  Jason?
“Kat!”
Kat looks up andfinally, finally, Adena comes backover to her, arm stretched out.
“I’m so sorrythat took so long,” she says, guiding her arm to Kat’s hip.  “I haven’t seen Tony in almost two years!”
Kat clears herthroat.  “That’s okay.”
Harold-Oscar-Jamesstares at them, mouth slightly agape.
“I made plansfor us to have dinner with him later this week, I hope that’s okay,” Adenasays, and she gives Kat honest-to-god bedroom eyes and rubs the small of herback and that melting feeling is starting to come back to her.
“Yeah, that’sfine.”
Adena turns herface forward and sees Derrick-Mark-Christopher and tilts her head.  “Who’s this, Kat?  A friend too?”
“Yes?”
(It’s the mostawkward interaction she’s ever experience in her life ever, and that includesthe time three weeks ago Jacqueline caught Kat sending totally and definitelyexplicit texts to Adena from her Scarlet computer.)
“Actually,”Franklin-Peter-Joshua looks between them again and it dawns on him.  “I have to get back, my brother is waitingfor me.”
He’s gone beforeKat can call after him with, “It was great seeing you again!”
Adena waits aminute before spinning on her heel to face Kat. “And that was?”
“My sort of goodbut mostly bad date from when you were still in Paris.”
“Ah.”
“The one that Iditched because I wanted to be with you but you were, y’know, in Paris and so Idrunkenly video chatted you instead.”  Kat shrugs.  Trevor?  “Also, I only just now remembered his name.”
Adena smiles.
“Let’s finishthis date, hm?”
