My first time in Taiwan -- before I moved there -- included a bit of exploring, which usually resulted in getting lost for a few hours in an effort to avoid crowds. One of my last excursions before heading to Korea was to Maokong, a destination in the mountains of Taipei full of tea fields and touristy shops. I followed trails in the heat to find Yinhe Temple, which is a cool little temple set in the mountainside with a little waterfall. The water and tree cover made this spot a bit cooler than the surrounding fields. Lots in this post! The video and a couple of the pictures are from the baseball game I went to, which as you can see is much more lively than American baseball. I also had hotpot for the first time since I got here, which is visible in the picture with trays of meat. I also included a photo of a restaurant that served snake soup, which you can see the snake in the front! Additionally, I had the chance to go to the Gaomei Wetlands, which had lots and lots of windmills. Lastly, I’ve also included pictures from a tea farm on a hillside in Maokong, some pretty gardens, and a geyser area.

If you enjoy unsolicited suggestions, you might like these spots near Taipei I’d you haven’t gone yet:

-Yehliu Geopark up north near Keelung

-Mr. Q Milk (fresh milk taro boba milk tea nearish the seafood night market in Keelung)

-Jiufen Old Street also near Keelung

-Maokong (ride a gondola up the mountain)

-Qixing Shan 七星山 if you want a workout

-Beitou hot springs

-National Concert Hall (if your school also gives out free tickets)

I suppose the content of an unsolicited suggestion determines the resulting enjoyment level— I did do many of these back in the day (we might've been here at the same time, albeit different schools (I went to 台大 then), if your '6 years ago' includes late 2016 onwards), so I do appreciate the rustling up of many amusing memories. I like your honesty with the 七星山 workout warning, a Taiwanese friend once took me up there marketing it as a light evening stroll or something similarly misleading, whereupon it was cold and windy and terrible (at the end of October), got dark before we made it down and I almost walked into a geothermal feature...maybe this is a sign I should try again during daylight hours 🤔 Maokong I confess I have not done yet, I was all geared up to go in June til I read the cable cars don't have aircon, but the weather lately makes me feel like it could finally be time. Thank you for the recommendations/reminiscing :)
