I thought I'd let you know that I really adore your fics and content in general. I just got into batman a little over a month ago specifically for batjokes; I'm just so intrigued by their dynamic [I NEED to draw more of them immediately]
REMS specifically had my brain doing flips bc the meta is just so good, and the psychoanalysis is so well thought out
I've only scratched the surface level of batman media, having read the occasional one-shot comic and watched a good chunk of animated batman/dcu stuff in passing, but regardless, I just wanted to tell you to keep up the good work
side note: any comic recs for someone new to the fandom? I've only ever been a manga-reader, and western comics are an entirely new concept for me
have a good one <33
This is such a kind message, thank you so much!! I'm glad you liked REMS and that my blog rambles are fun too. I affectionately think of REMS as meta in a plotty trenchcoat, so it's great to hear you enjoyed the character analysis parts specifically. And Batjokes is indeed an incredibly intriguing dynamic, a warm welcome to the fandom <3 Sending you good vibes for fanart inspiration as well.
When it comes to comic recs related to Batjokes, I can point you to an excellent Batjokes starter-pack post that covers quite a lot of the classics, as well as some more "advanced" reading. I also have a semi-comic-rec, semi-review ask answer where I recommend some of my own favorite Batjokes heavy comics (though a lot overlap with the previous post I linked to).
I hope you have fun reading, and wishing you the best!!

I can totally believe that people forget about a character's flaws like that
To stick with the example, Siete is "good". He's one of the good guys. His crew are good guys. So people forget about the manipulation, or tell themselves that he wouldn't do that now that we're all besties, he's the silly oniisan guy, after all
So they focus on one aspect of his personality and forget the rest
Fanfics definitely do that which is a shame cause the manipulation stuff can be sexy af, I said what I said
Grand Blues mostly focusing on how he's desperate to get the crew together and the CBT doesn't help, though you shouldn't take the freaking joke manga as gospel when it comes to character's personalities, of course they're caricatures
If I tell someone "Belial is a manipulative prick" they tend to agree, because even if the horniness might be more prevalent in their mind, he's an antagonist, so it checks out. Siete isn't antagonistic to us anymore/ for the moment
But it's silly to blame the event for your own misreading of the character
If it were a complete retcon of his personality, that'd be one thing, but it's not. It just showed more exactly how far he's willing to go at times. If you don't like that, it's not the event's fault
Yeah i would agree on that.
I think people love flawed characters but there are flaws that they deem too evil to process as likely to happen into "good" characters.
Manipulative behavior is one of them. Because after all we only call out on manipulators when their behaviors hurt others. We never think about the person who manipulates a conversation so that someone doesn't blow up in anger in their face, we don't think about people who would manipulate a bad person into doing a good thing.
Siete's manipulations can be pretty selfish, again it comes from this belief that he can handle everything by himself. and on a personal level, it doesn't help that his cheerful appearance is mostly to keep people from digging over his post personal side, which means he cannot get close to people by being personal, so he can often feel like it's easier to manipulate situations for him to get closer with people since being honest isn't on the table.
And like i wouldn't go as far as to say manipulation is morally neutral lmao but especially in a work of fiction i think it's important to remember that characters are going to act in conflicting ways, usually as an extreme response to the environment around them, and it goes double for stories that aren't set in our reality to start with.
But yeah i think that "lying" or "manipulation" can be such loaded behavior that some people may block out when "good" characters do it. it's not manipulation, it's just him tricking his friends to join him on vacancy because no one answers his calls :( and so on and so forth.
I think Fanfic would be the type to Flandernize like this, but tbh aside from the ones dropped in my DMs i don't read fanfics. So i didn't encounter this phenomena ahah.
as for Grand Blues, i would love to believe people are AWARE that this is an alternative universe made to be silly where everyone gets humiliated for the joke and it's not actually a representation of the characters, and it's why the April's fools event make it clear they are alternative self-- but i also know how it can become insidious knowledge.
I think on here when we talk about them we know it's just jokes and all, but i hope no one take them as a serious characterization template.
and yeah i think no one would deny Belial is manipulative because they know he's a villain, so of course he'd do villain things like that. Siete might have been antagonistic at some point but he was never framed fully as a villain, and while he could become antagonistic later if the safety of the skies is at stake, i think people would understand his reasons enough to not villainize him, which is neat! but it seems a bit of a hollow victory if it means they're unable to see that Siete has some darker sides to him to start with.
imo SoR totally played on this part of him that had been established in previous events and stories. I think it just also proved people that he isn't just going to touch people he deems to be villains, but that he can manipulate the people around him, the people he likes, and that's what people can't consider a good character to do. regardless of the fact that i think morality in Granblue characters is already pretty grey, but like... This is really not that far fetched.
I do think the event was very good at keeping Siete's prsonality, just focusing just on the extremes he's willing to go once he has a set goal in mind. People just didn't expect that he'd momentarily leave Seox to burn (knowing that he planned on saving him anyway) because even a temporary sacrifice felt like the most intense of betrayal. ... but it's not the writing's fault. Siete is just like that. And it's a character flaw the event calls Siete out on as well.
Idk man. i think we'd get better if instead of being "the writing is bad" when the behavior of a chara we like is uncomfortable we start thinking "but why would the writers develop this trait like that". Like. having some trust in the writers yaknow?

Lesbian Anime Review #2 - Netsuzou Trap NTR
If the title wasn’t enough of a red flag, let me go and raise several more for you because ladies, this anime was BAD.
Content warning: sexual situations with dubious consent and themes of domestic violence
Hoo boy.
I’m not going to go into any graphic detail about any of that, and tbh the show doesn’t go so far that I had to step away, but damn it was pretty uncomfortable!
All the reviews for this on Crunchyroll were one star. Seems a lot of people got the same impression I did.
So the basic premise here is that two girls who are childhood friends both have boyfriends, when one girl starts making sexual advances at the other under the premise of “practicing for our boyfriends”. This keeps happening over time until one of their relationships breaks down over it and the other relationship is revealed to be a pretty bad and abusive one, but eventually both girls are able to admit that they have real feelings for each other and they both leave their relationships and are happy together. That’s the whole show.
There are several problems with the way these events are depicted within the show that make it hard to watch.
Black hair girl keeps coming onto pink hair girl, who spends the whole show ruminating on how weird the whole situation is for her. She doesn’t seem to like it! That’s clear to everyone watching from the Crunchyroll review section.
What they were going for is that she’s actually suppressed her romantic feelings for her friend since they were younger and she’s been put in a situation where she now gets to be intimate with the girl she loves, so she doesn’t refuse. But she takes so long to come to this realisation that most of the show just feels bad to watch.
Then there’s the boyfriends. You’ve got one nice boy and one evil boy.
Nice boy (brown hair) is honestly a pretty great guy. I liked him. Always felt bad for him. He’s even still able to remain amicable with pink girl after they break up. He is a fucking champion. He’s able to help pink hair come to terms with her feelings by telling her, “while we were together it always felt to me like you had feelings for someone else”. Stan him.
Evil boy (grey hair) is such an inhuman kind of character. He is not sympathetic in the slightest. His backstory is never explored and he’s just evil. His entire deal can be summed up with one of his lines, “I hate women, I just like sex”. Just an unrepentant misogynist. It would have been nicer if he got some kind of comeuppance by the end but nothing even happens. I guess he and black hair girl break up off screen.
Now apparently this show is a terrible adaption of the manga it’s based on. I believe that, but I don’t think I’ll be picking it up any time soon. There’s actually good lesbian manga I could be reading.
Final thoughts
This show was trashy as fuck but it at least had the decency to be short and the girls did start dating each other by the end. They actually used the word “lesbian” at one point which they don’t usually in anime. But this was a bad show. Don’t watch it. I have suffered for you even though I know you didn’t ask.
Pros
12 9-minute episodes made it easier to swallow
gay ending
Cons
trashy as fuck
deeply uncomfortable sex scenes all throughout
toxic characters in toxic relationships with little to no character development
only 12 9-minute episodes? That sucks on principle.
And I’m giving this one a 2/10

Sannin headcanons and thoughts
The last thing I would like to post for the sannin week. It is still 24.04 here! :D @sannin-central
This is long. Spoiler alert. Mostly Orochimaru, some Tsunade, a little of Jiraiya (because his story is pretty clear and spoken and idk what I can add). Also I recommend to read this meta about Orochimaru, it has influenced me a lot and has some good points. Sorry for any posible grammar mistakes. Also I really should put here a lot of references to the manga or anime but it was something that was piling up for a year and I'm soooooooo lazy. After all, those are just headcanons. Also: Im not excusing Oro's bad stuff here, Im trying to understand the reasons.
Ive already posted some hcs, here, here and here.
Tumblr media
1. First if all, the chronology pic of sannin lifetime based on the info i found on naruto wiki and also some statements about wars from this post. It was tough considering what a mess naruto’s chronology is.
2. Sannin story shows what it cost to be a legend. They're like Team 7 but more realistic. Tsunade literally carried the war but left with nothing and developed a ptsd and have problems to just live on. Also anger control issues. I think she can be pretty bossy and stubborn which is not always nice. Jiraiya is the hero of the day but also very idealistic and can ignore some important details in the real word whether its the fight (he always injured during flashbacks maybe because each time he took too much to handle and on the one hand it's heroistic but on the other is a mistake that can lead your team to situations like in that Iwa cave) or your friends issues (I bet he saw what's going on but thought it's fine until Oro actually got red handed and left). He lives in his world and may have problems to get out to see it through someone else's shoes. As for Orochimaru, it seems like he was a normal guy for 20+ years (I mean, he didn't do crazy criminal shit and had something good in him and it was stated somewhere that it was his teammates influence. It is obvious they considered him as a friend, I don't thinks it was for nothing) but we mostly know his darkest side. Despite being a moster he is a human that have empathy and some ordinary human traits (man just decorates every bit of an environment he is in lol).
3. Tsunade was the leader of team Hiruzen.
4. Tsunade sometimes hit Jiraiya for some stupid things he did or said but never touches Orochimaru even if he did something same. Jiraiya complained about it once and almost got another hit.
5. Jiraiya had problematic parents that didn't care about him much and a lot of time he was wandering in the streets.
6. Judging by the look of Oro bangs and hair, he sometimes cut it off. A stress relief huh? And the fact that he doesn't do it now in Boruto..
7. It was shown that Tsunade and Orochimaru was acknowledged before they become a team. Maybe they did just before, or maybe some longer time before. I prefer the second option and hc that they met because both had no real friends - Orochimaru seemed weird and scary for everyone and Tsunade was Senju so everyone wanted to hang out with her but didn't really care. They weren't seen as what they were - people put the labels on them. But they didn't care about each other's labels and actually saw each other in true lights.
8. Tsunade knew it was an accident and it's not right but still she blamed Orochimaru for Nawaki's death for some time. It was something that seriously damaged their friendship and the team. Orochimaru was mad but also guilty, after all, he was responsible at least as a shinobi since Nawaki was under his watch. So he started to act cold and emotionless and was trying to distance himself from his teammates.
9. Jiraiya was in Ame while Dan died.
10. The whole his orphans mission was a bit irresponsible tbh. They already fought Hanzo and as he stated the conflict between Konoha and Ame is going to an end with Konoha's win. It's weird to stay here for three years in the middle of the war while there were other lands to fight. He left his teammates for some idea. Maybe that caused another crack in their team friendship.
11. If Tsunade would have find a way to live on with her trauma and follow the will of fire and stuff it would affect Orochimaru as well just as her grief affected him. It's like he would get an example that you can live on with this pain. So death isn't above human capability and we are not just the slaves of mortality (sounds stupid but i dont know how else to describe sorry). But as we know what he actually saw is that it broke her crucially to the point she couldnt be herself again. And so the death is above everything.
12. Oro wasn’t just acting as a cold pragmatic bitch in that cave but also tried to save Tsunade. Jiraiya knew it and that’s why he showed this sign to him like "I see what youre doing here" and that stunned Oro because he would prefer to look rather like a cold pragmatic bitch hehe
13. Just a thought. People in the village probably treated Oro as a foreigner or just wouldnt accept him because he looked so differently and had a weird attitude. That's why he sometimes didn't feel that Konoha is his home. After the wars where people were treated as means and tools, even the children, he himself developed this view on people - he dehumanized them and used as the means to his goals, just as his village did. Funny thing some people were straightly dehumanizing him too like Ibiki thought that he was a demon (tho he was a child). And he probably weren't the only one. Anyways the point is that it's logical that Orochimaru don't care about anybody but some few people, he's the product of his era. He's like Naruto that would chose the hatred way. But naruto had some good and understanding people around him and.. Orochimaru had them too, but match how Iruka treated Naruto and this Hiruzen's "I sAw tHe mAliCe in This cHiLd fRoM tHe BegGinNinG". And oro didn't even have a big ass evil fox in him. sry i hate hiruzen
ANYWAYS the moral of the story is not "go criminal if they hurt you" but always treat people like people. Waving my hand to Kant.
14. The reason why Orochimaru didn't pick some good morals to stick with through the hard times no matter what (like, idk, Jiraiya or Naruto) is because 1) I think he is/was pretty depending on people around him 2) the war fucked him and his friends up too much (Nawaki incident + Tsunade) 3) twisted addictions (though I don't think he's that sadistic, we never saw him torturing randoms just for fun, it was always some science experimental shit. He tends to get fun out of cruelty only when it's personal) that maybe developed as a way to sublimate anger and sadness caused by his parents loss (that's what they share with sasuke - unlicke naruto, they knew their parents and it's other kind of pain. Sasuke developed a revenge issue and Orochimaru - cruelty pleasure which... is kinda the same but less epic and more occasional lol).
15. Speaking of that, Orochimaru cared for Sasuke because he saw himself in him.
16. Oro hold grudges against Hiruzen for not choosing him to be Hokage not only because he was ambitious and/or egoistic, but also because Hiruzen was some kind of a father figure for him and his approval was important tho i doubt he was aware of that. He also probably could tell that Hiruzen was suspicios about him when he was a child and that led to many conflicts and was hurting as well.
17. Tsunade knew things weren't pretty with Orochimaru after the wars but she never expected them to be this bad. During the week that she was given in her arc she thought not only about how much she wants to see Nawaki and Dan again despite how wrong would it be but also was trying to bury all the good memories she had left of Orochimaru so it would be easier to kill him.
18. She poisoned Jiraiya exactly because she knew he would not let her do it. Jiraiya was always hesitant to kill and inclined to forgiveness, while Tsunade, as mentioned by Orochimaru, could be merciless (so much so that he was not surprised when Kabuto suggested that she wanted to use Jira for Edo Tensei).
19. That was one of her traits that scared Jiraiya and fascinated Orochimaru.
20. Remember how Oro grabbed Jiraiya's neck when the latter was trying to cover with hair jutsu? On the snake, in Tsnade's arc. Orochimaru could have easily kill Jiraiya by pulling the sword out of the mouth (arteries are right there) but he didn't. As well as he could kill Tsunade when she was still shaking - just aim for the neck or the heart. Instead, he just injured her lung and kicked her which is not a big deal for the kind of shinoby like her at all.. Also he helped Anko not accidentally kill herself but it would be way much profitable to let her do it. "Orochimaru has no feelings".
21. The reason he suddenly wanted to kill Tsunade instead of forcing her to heal his arms as it was planned (which is weird since it will not going to get him heals and he kinda said that he wouldn't want to kill her just minutes ago) is that not only she refused to help him (he thought he could work it out) but she also prefered the village over him (from his point of view). Out if everyone she was the closest to being able to understand him since the village caused her painful losses too but nevertheless she agreed to be on it's side.
22. He wasn't fighting her back in the end partly because he thought he deserved that. Somewhere deep inside hahah.
23. Tsunade got a fear to develop deep bonds so they probably weren't very close with Shizune (also the way she knocked her down in this hotel.. oh).
24. Orochimaru will be here when she'll die.
25. Orochimaru's eng dub to Tsunade: "I often wondered what it would be like to ring that pretty neck yours". No comments.
26. Orochimaru is either bi/pan or ace. Anything or nothing lmao
27. Hiruzen knew about at least some of the Oro’s illegal experiments and was okay just as he was okay with the Foundation all the time. Because it’s useful. Then he has discovered he went too far OR he knew everything and oro just became too inconvenient because of his methods. The way Orochimaru tells Sasuke about reasons they are well treated as the criminals is based on in his experience with Hiruzen.
28. As you may know the lyrics in Orochimaru’s music theme goes “don’t talk with the silence of the heart”. It was taken from one Indian song that also had lines like “don’t question life too much”, ”pain arose somewhere in the chest”, “don’t speak to the wounds of the heart”. Though I’m not sure 100% because I was translating it with some hindi dictionary with like zero knowledge of hindi
29. I like to think that this “silence of the heart” theme and the fact that he called his village a hidden sound village are somehow connected. The hidden sound is the possible explanation of all things waiting to be listened to but the truth is silent and you know it deep in your heart and it bothers you. The world is silent just like the life is meaningless but people can only hear. *Sigh* anyways
30. Orochimaru’s journey is the one about accepting death. When he saw Karin released her chains while was trying to get to Sasuke he understood that the death is a part of human’s strength.
Can’t wait to feel that everything I wrote is wrong or not enough or stupid and obvious lol. Anyways, it’s something that I wanted to share until I move to some other fandom.

Cycles and Scales: An analysis of Hananene’s Progression Pt 1
Because tumblr seemed to hate over 10 pictures in one text post. Wth?!
Cycles and Scales Part 2 <--
Hello, fellow shippers! I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for the support on my other meta discussing the true chance of a Hananene kiss.
The attention on that post has encouraged me to complete this analysis (since I mentioned I planned to write a larger post, and I don’t want to fall flat on a written statement dozens have seen. Anxiety~)
Regardless, I still really enjoyed writing my analysis to give my two cents on the progression of Hanako and Nene’s relationship, and feel free to add your interpretations after reading.
This post will cover the first two topics (which will be explained below), since...
The rest of the text will be under the cut since it includes SPOILERS for...let’s say the latest manga chapter to be safe.
Thus, let us pull back the curtain and begin.
For the sake of organization, I will describe how this post is going to be divided. There are four main topics to be discussed. First, is the general cycle I have witnessed in terms of Hananene moments. Second, will be a...progression bar?? Timeline?? Basically topic 2 will discuss how Hanako’s feelings towards Nene have progressed in phases from “only friends” to “sh*t I’m in love”. Topic 3 is the inverse discussing the progression of Yashiro’s feelings. Finally, I plan to conclude with some brief thoughts on the next steps in their relationship.
Unfortunately, as mentioned before, the secret guidelines of tumblr text posts deemed the original analysis too long. Thus, this post only discusses topics 1 & 2.
So, without further ado, let’s begin.
1: The Hananene Whirlpool (TM of Solitaire)
Alright, so full discretion, I’m probably not the first person to notice this pattern, but I am the first person I know to properly summarize it.
So what is the Hananene Whirlpool?
And what’s a whirlpool doing here??
I chose this term over cycle because cycles can remain in roughly the same place when going back to a point. However, Hananene’s relationship doesn’t work like that. Each cycle pulls them deeper and deeper into their feelings, much like a whirlpool that sucks any objects trapped in it closer to the centre.
Here’s an artist rendition of the phenomena:
Tumblr media
And now the artist’s statement:
As the visual attempts to depict, there are six stages in this whirlpool of ever increasing feelings.
1) Yashiro acquires a (pretty valid tbh) concern about the events or revelations of a trip into a boundary.
2) This is the one step that varies, but it accomplishes the same end purpose. Either Yashiro will approach Hanako about her new concern or Hanako will check in on Yashiro since she’s been avoiding him (’cause of the aforementioned concern). Both methods get Hanako and Yashiro in the same place to chat.
3) Once together, Yashiro brings up that new concern that has been weighing on or bothering her...She’s emotionally troubled, okay. This is important! Because...
4) Hanako makes himself more vulnerable in order to boost Yashiro’s mood.
5) This causes a romantic atmosphere since Hanako has temporarily taken off the mask he hides behind, allowing deeper feelings to bleed through and Yashiro to witness this.
6) So, Hanako has to murder the mood in cold blood. Love letter letdowns, Christmas tree hair in summer, and being shoved off a fricking cloud. Anything to try and restore the distance between them.
It somewhat works...But it’s an undeniable fact that the two are getting closer. And I can prove it with the next topics!
2: Hanako’s Feelings ~ A Timeline
For these timelines, there are three major stages that classify their feelings towards the other.
“Only Friends”
“Highschool Crush”
“Oh scales I’m in love”
While one might expect Hanako’s feelings to be the most difficult to determine and thus more interesting, it is quite the opposite.
If you notice, we rarely ever get any sort of internal monologue from our ghost boy. I can’t think of one canon scenario where this happened (I could be mistaken). Therefore, the feelings Hanako holds towards Yashiro are represented by actions over words. And the body cannot lie as easily as the mind, making his true feelings easier to figure out.
Disclaimer: I will not be counting the past Amanes in this timeline. There has been no canon evidence that he consciously remembers Yashiro’s time travel shenanigans, and so the impact of those events on his feelings remain unclear.
With that out of the way, let me bring up a surprising take:
Hanako only started having a crush on Yashiro towards the end of chapter 1.
It’s tempting to believe that Hanako already liked Yashiro before or not long after their first meeting due to this line:
Tumblr media
However, I would like to bring up two points. First, this line doesn’t gain a super romantic context until he connects it to himself in particular.
Tumblr media
Secondly, I don’t know about you, but I had friends who would say things like “Anybody would do for you, huh?” to tease them or give them a reality check. It’s not an inherently shippy phrase until Hanako makes it such.
Though, this implies that his feelings have changed throughout the chapter. When exactly? I’d argue it’s...right...here...
Tumblr media
A running trend that occurs before Hanako allows himself to get closer to Yashiro tends to be her being upset...often because of our No 7.
Guilt.
It’s a core part of Hanako’s character. Whatever happened that led to Tsukasa’s death clearly weighs on him, despite evidence of being abused and mistreated--a situation that could cause many to snap.
Tumblr media
He is terrified and regretful for how he has and can hurt others, and this is a key reason why he wears his more lighthearted mask. So, when he sees a girl that he clearly respects by this point and knows has less than a year to live be genuinely heartbroken about what he did...it was bound to trigger his overwhelming guilt. Then, the response of attempting amends for his actions leads him to try and stop and/or check in on her. Only to see she didn’t give her Senpai the scale. Since she learned the error of her ways. Another amendable attribute that attracts enough attention for assistant assignment.
Plus, a highschool crush.
It’s honestly more simple to tell that he’s started to crush on her after this point from his increasingly flirty behaviour.
Pinning her against a wall, “You have me,”, that “magic spell”...
An important thing to note is that his actions are...overly flirty...in a way that makes you question their sincerity. Capitalizing on his previously established trait of being a jokester, he’s able to play off these actions as teasing. Nothing serious. Probably because he already understands a longterm relationship between the two would be nearly unobtainable. At least, he’s able squeeze out the most romantic moments he can without worrying about a real relationship.
Yashiro has made it extremely clear she’s not his type,
So he’ll just reject him right?
This is where we cross over into L-O-V-E territory dear readers.
You can probably guess what scene I’ll cite as the change, but the seeds of the shift are planted all the way back in chapter 5.
Tumblr media
The Misaki Stairs is the first point of the story in which Yashiro is truly in danger, subject to the extreme power and control Mysteries hold over their domain. At that moment, Hanako was powerless and there was a decent chance he couldn’t reach Yashiro in time. He did--thankfully--but the whole experience noticeably rattled him. To the point where he does this:
Tumblr media
Decidedly more suggestive than his previous actions and containing a protection spell both contribute to the idea that Yashiro’s close calls at the Misaki Stairs were what spurred him to do this.
Blah, blah, blah. I think we all remember what happens after this, Hanako digging his own grave after going a step too far.
He doesn’t realize this mistake right after the kiss though, with his comment about the confession tree keeping up his trend of flirty behaviour.
It is only at the following moment in Chapter 8 does the realization strike him and the true transformation begins.
Tumblr media
Yashiro is upset because of him (dejavu) Because she was expecting, was wanting, an actual confession.
Hanako is noticeably caught off guard for most of this scene, gaping in shock and stammering out a seemingly half-baked excuse for the kiss on the cheek.
Yashiro wanted a confession. Yashiro might return any romantic feelings he has (something previously thought impossible). Yashiro is crying. And it’s all his fault.
So, what does he do?
Tumblr media
For the first time in the series, Hanako takes off his mask, allowing himself to be vulnerable and fully honest with her. He opens himself up, and the chance Yashiro could like him back props that the door slightly open. Though his ever increasing feelings for her become enough to push the door even wider open.
We can confirm his behaviour changed after this event since this pretty much marks the decline of the constant flirting from Hanako’s side. It still holds on for a bit into the 4 PM Bookstacks, but it’s rough once per chapter frequency beforehand has certainly diminished. Plus, after this point marks the casual contact that’s trademark to the ship.
Tumblr media
Adding that the Hananene Whirlpool does not start until after the 4 PM Bookstacks--the first boundary visited after the Confession Tree chapter--and it requires Hanako to open up and not maintain a joking front, I think we have our winner.
This concludes the end of the first half of this post. Please wait patiently for pt 2 (it’sprobablyoutatthispointbutstill)

In regards to the newest chapter of Haikyuu!!, can I say how happy I am that Furudate sensei hasn't shown any "quite decent players, probably could go pro, but anyway they didn't for this or that reason" in pro careers?!
It would be so unrealistic and looks more like fanservice than a solid storyline.
Of course, by me saying that, it means I do have a list (?) of people that I think will and won’t go pro. Yes, I know, unless I am Furudate, I can’t really pinpoint who will be pro athletes and who won’t be. But I believe, we as dedicated fans, can all at least make some sensible guesses about that.
Now, moving on. The players that I actually think would go pro so far have appeared in manga as pros (cheers me!). As for the rest of them, I’ll try to break it down by teams coz it’s easier and tidier. Mind you, I’m not athletic and can’t do any sports at all. So technique-wise, I can’t explain much. I go by intuition and deep thinking for pretty much all of my guesses below. So if you’re going to read my analysis (?) or opinion (?), please don’t be too harsh on me just because I can’t give you the logical reasons behind it. Maybe, I should apologize in advance for this.
Karasuno (brace yourself, it’s gonna be long)
Kageyama is the first one. I honestly can’t see any other career choice for him except going pro and finally be a coach after he retired. Kageyama has been playing and practicing volleyball the longest, since he was 7 (Hoshiumi too). And this is the reason why he’s so far ahead of everyone. Also, he’s even worse than Hinata in school, so there’s no way he went to university to me. So, pro it is.
Aside from Kageyama (and Hinata, but I believe I don’t need to explain Hinata to you coz we’re currently the viewers of his journey to be a professional player), I can only see Nishinoya going pro. For me, he stands in the same category as Kageyama. And he’s not going to university with a brain like his. Not trying to be rude or belittling him, but I just can’t see Nishinoya voluntarily enrolling in college. Other than that, Nishinoya is one of the best Libero in the series. It still bothers me even to this day, that he wasn’t invited to the Youth Camp with Kageyama. But I think I understand why: there are just too many great Liberos and The Youth Camp wouldn’t be able to hold everyone there. Besides, there’s the “positioning after receiving thing” that Kageyama had to tell him. Who knows if Nishinoya has been doing that for so long?! An observant scouting staff or professional coach would definitely think it’s a minus point. And there’s the suspension he got too. Idk about other countries much, but I know how Japan really takes care of their background and portfolio. His suspension may be not for something dangerous like drugs, but it definitely marred his resume for the Youth Camp a bit. But Nishinoya has moved past that now and pro career is not so impossible for him.
For the other 2nd years: Tanaka, Ennoshita, Kinoshita, and Narita, they probably won’t go pro. Tanaka has a higher chance though, and deep down I want him to shine more in volley, but I still don’t think so. Tanaka & Kinoshita look like they will go straight down to labor working right after graduation. Ennoshita & Narita were in class 4 and can be assumed as pretty smart, so college and office working probably.
Tbh, I actually can see Asahi be a pro. But, he’s a bit tricky. It all depends on whether he got scouted after Spring High or not. Coz he already chose not to go to university, so it is not impossible as well. As for the rest of the 3rd years, no. I think they have other things (or a career) that they want to pursue and they are smart enough to do it (Daichi and Suga were both in college preparatory class). Though, I would love to see Daichi graduating from sport science or something and go back to Karasuno and be an assistant coach hehe.
For first years, I don’t think Tsukishima & Yamaguchi will go pro. Same like Daichi & Suga, I believe they both have a dream job in their mind, hence why they chose to go to university. Ofc, they can go pro after graduation, but I have little faith in it. Now, I think Tsukishima wanted to be an archaeologist or something along the line (all those dinosaurs!!!), I would be so happy if it turned out to be true.
Aoba Johsai
Except Oikawa, I honestly don’t think the rest of Seijoh will be pros. Maybe Iwaizumi or Kyoutani, but the others, not so much. On a side note, Oikawa (and Hinata) is the most surprising outta the rest of the Haikyuu!! characters. I mean, I never would’ve thought that he’d fly to Argentina and join a league there. I always think he’d join a Japan team. But I love the element of surprise, so I guess it’s fine.
Datekou
Aone has the best chance. Simply because he has all the necessary skills. But he’s so quiet I can’t guess anything from him. I could be wrong, really. Futakuchi and Koganegawa aren’t so bad either, but Idk tho.
Johzenji
I have no idea, truthfully. But I’m leaning more toward the opinion that no one from the team will continue playing professionally.
Kakugawa
I really really wish Hyakuzawa going pro. He’s blessed with the height and also power. With enough practice, he’ll be great. But that’s just my wishful thinking. I can’t really guess him, similar to Aone.
Shiratorizawa
Ushijima is another one of my “definitely going pro people”. He’s just a complete package. He has the sense, the height, the power, the… everything. It would be a big waste for him to just stop. And Ushijima is a volleyball baka too, so he loves the sport too much to not continue playing.
I also think that Goshiki might try to get into pro teams too, maybe after completing college. I don’t think he’d stop just like that. I mean, after Ushijima retired, Shiratorizawa never went to National again. I think that hit him hard. Especially because Ushijima left the team on his hand as the next ace. I would really love to see Goshiki improving himself and kinda get a revenge by getting much much better than before. But, if he doesn’t go pro, it won’t be really disappointing to me. After all, Haikyuu!! always tries to be as close as possible to real life, and in real life not every good player can be pro.
Tendou is a no no. He said he’d stop and he wouldn’t lie about it. Shirabu is confusing, but I think he’d stop in high school or maybe university. He’s not a bad setter, he’s good, but even within Shiratorizawa, his ability is not better than Semi. He was the starting setter just because he was able to blend into the background and be a support for Ushijima so he could shine. So, I really don’t think he got scouted or still pursuing Ushijima.
For the rest of Shiratorizawa, we didn’t see much of them so I can’t make clear guesses. I apologize once again.
Nekoma
Nekoma is also a bit confusing. But, I could see Lev go pro. He’s not super duper amazing per se (I say this based on his performance up to National, idk how he is now okay), but he has the talent and all those height and power. His progress is fast too. I think it’d catch the scouting agents’ attention.
Now, Kenma definitely wouldn’t go pro and we’re shown that XD. Surprise though, I always had a headcanon that he’d be a pro gamer or secretly doing stock trading. Just never thought he’d be a YouTuber and a company board member (or is it CEO?!). Imagine my feeling when my “simply headcanon” became real.
Kuroo is a bit like Asahi, but I honestly believe he is really smart and probably wanna do something else. I wish Yaku would go pro coz he’s a really top caliber Libero (and I would really like to watch his rivalry with Nishinoya grow more), but he didn’t really show much “ambition” for professional career for me. The rest of the members wouldn’t go pro too imo.
Fukurodani
Now, as much as it breaks my heart to say this, I don’t think Akaashi is going pro. He gives me “doctor/scientist/basically high and smart position vibe” somehow. And he’s very clever as well (all those thinking he does lmao), I think he’d pursue something else. So volleyball stopped in high school or university for him. Idk about the rest of Fukurodani though. I definitely wanna see more of Konoha, but the chance is small.
Bokuto >>> pro for me. Been that for a long time. He doesn’t strike me as academically gifted, but I can be wrong ofc. He could: a) straight going pro after high school or b) finished college then go pro. Either way, he’s definitely pro athletes material.
Inarizaki
Atsumu (I’ll call him Atsumu to differentiate him with his twin, even though I prefer last name tbh) also >>> pro. The reason is pretty similar to Ushijima/Kageyama/Bokuto. He’s just that good. Oh on this, I really should mention that I believe all the Youth Camp candidates are going to be or already pros (this by extension means Sakusa & Komori from Itachiyama).
For the rest of Inarizaki, the ones that will be pro are Aran and Osamu. Aran is awesome and one of the best 5 aces in the nation. I know he would get scouted. Whether he go pro after high school or after finishing college, idk. But he will be pro. I would riot if he isn’t. And for Osamu, it would be really cool if he goes to a different team than his twin and they will fight it out on court.
On a side note, Kita is one of my favorite characters and he’s the one that from personality and mindset, can resonate the most with me. But tbh, I’m certain he’s not gonna go pro.
Kamomedai
The only Kamomedai members that would be pro for me are Hoshiumi and Hakuba. Hirugami is high level himself ofc, but idk, I didn’t get the pro ambition vibe from him, similar to Yaku.
Hoshiumi is another one in my list that I think would be revealed as a pro. He’s small, yes, but there’s a wing spiker in Japan National Men’s Volleyball Team that’s around 178cm, and I believe Hoshiumi has grown around this height too. I mean, Hinata has reached 171cm, so it’s possible that Hoshiumi has grown taller as well. Besides, he’s really really really good. He has one of the highest overall skill after Kageyama. He only lose in power coz well, he’s smaller. After all, there’s the promise he made to Hinata. So a showdown between them will definitely happen. So, I think it’s safe to assume Furudate will make him a pro athlete.
Hakuba >>> same vibe as Lev and Hyakuzawa. He’s tall af. Not many people can reach 2 meters (especially Japanese), so he’d bring an advantage for any pro teams.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention Kiryuu. He’s definitely going pro (or he already is?). I really really like and admire him. His character is so wholesome and amazing, he deserves the best. And that translates to the best career too. I would be so disappointed if he isn’t a pro.
There’s also Tsubakihara High School that Karasuno fought in the first round National. Out of those players, the ace (Teradomari) and their wing spiker (Maruyama) have the best chance to get scouted. But there’s little information that we have about them, so I’m not sure. Furudate might not bring them back to the present. This also applies to Ubugawa and Shinzen High School captains from the training camp. Oh, Daishou-kun is also an interesting character, I would love to see him again. But maybe he won’t come back as pro player tho. But him giving commentaries will be very appreciated hehe.
PS: I kinda wish Furudate was a fic writer, lol. They would be able to write absolute masterpiece of crack-pair fics considering how they are able to make sense of Bokuto-Atsumu and Ushijima-Kageyama, lmao. Who else after this? Hoshiumi-Sakusa? Nishinoya-Kiryuu? XD

I just read the ons ch 82/83 and like y’all... I always say that Mahiru is one of my favourite female fictional characters but tbh I’m starting to think she’s actually one of my favourite fictional characters of all time, period. She just has so much depth and complexity to her character and for a female character in a shounen manga, that’s fucking rare. It breaks my heart to see everyone in the manga have so much vitriol towards her (justifiably) and to watch her purposely paint herself as a villain and get everyone to hate her because it’s easier that way even when she ultimately cares about others and feels awful about always having to hurt other people to get what she wants (even though what she wants is just to let her loved ones have a normal life!!!)
She always acts “evil” like she doesn’t give a shit about all the chaos happening around her now that she’s a cool ghost gal but to see her finally drop all her pretenses at the very end and openly worry about Guren, comfort Guren and tell him that not everything is his fault and that she’ll keep him safe in a really serious manner... it just hurts. I love her relationship with Guren because at this point in the story, while their romance is dead and gone, they’re honestly more like partners in crime now and I love it. They have this steadfast trust in each other and it’s very clear now that Mahiru is not manipulating him--rather Mahiru is doing for Guren now what Guren did for her in the past which is “even if your decisions destroy you and everyone turns against you, I will follow you to the very end and I will never abandon you”. I think Mahiru herself knows she’s done more than she can ever atone for, so at the very least she will be Guren’s ally even when no one else will. I love that both characters are just so entangled with each others’ messes that they’re quite literally ride or die with each other now.
It honestly makes me sad that people always rag on ons for having poorly written female characters who are just fan service but when we’re finally given a female character who is very, very, very well written, complex, interesting, fascinating and charming, everyone treats her like hot garbage because “she’s a bitch!” s m h. The plot of this manga may be garbo but at least we have Mahiru.

Thinking about 90s anime fandom, oh boy
IDK if it's because the end of 2019 had dawned on me recently, or if it's because I'm getting older, but I haven't been able to stop thinking about the days of 90s fandom, and how no one (?) has thought to interview people involved in fostering/maintaining it back then.
I'm specifically talking about the people involved in mags like Animerica and Protoculture Addicts, tbh. They were a lifeline for people like me, from a small Caribbean island. The only thing we had in terms of news direct from Japan, or learning about new creatives. Not just because for a bunch of oldtaku, they were sometimes our best and foremost anime news heralds -- but because they were the only thing we had.
I memorized the names involved, like Trish Ledoux, Julie Davis, Pork'n Beans (who remembers THAT artist), Claude Pelletier, Dana Lewis, Rachael Thorn or Toren Smith for translations, Carl Gustav Horn (Caribbean Kidd was where I heard of him, my brain wants to say) -- or the Manga no Mori column, the anime CDs reviews -- --the custom drawn covers Protoculture Addicts had (I liked those??) before they finally started to use licensed official covers --- the anime-lovin' punker MAI ANIME and her retired miltary grandpa mascots lmao
WHEN THE ANIMERICA LOGO CHANGED IN LATE 90S, IT WAS A HOT BUTTON TOPIC XD
( Sidenote: heck, who remembers when Antarctic Press started translating and publishing manga...that in hindsight ended up being doujinshi that they didn't have the rights to translate or super independent work that they mistreated in terms of publishing schedules )
To this day, I don't think anyone who read Animerica could forget the cool fanart sections (I sent in some and GOT ONE PUBLISHED...under a wrong name at first. Oops. I wrote in with the correction and I got a Ranma postcard set in addition to a printed apology), the 4-person reviews for fresh anime from Japan, the letters, the asking for penpals from other places, etc.
For Protoculture Addicts, it was filling in the holes that Animerica didn't, with their added insights and reviews on "niche-ir" anime, or giving us info directly translated from the listings or news of anime.
(What was fun to find out recently, was that Protoculture Addicts named themselves after the protoculture concept from Macross/Robotech...and it was actually a nice circle to learn that after I got into Macross two years ago. Now my memories are sweeter, to pen a nice phrase.)
I see a lot of good talk about archiving anime history -- but things like these magazines and the people involved in that era never seem to pop up. And that makes me sad because again, kid from the Caribbean, and I never was online like most of America at the time. Anytime people talk about irc this, rec this, r finding other kids their age online, I get envious, sad, bitter. But at the same time, I was very lucky and privileged to be able to read Animerica and PA frequently. I'm sure I may have been the only kid to do so for a LONG time.
And the reason why I say that almost arrogantly is because I never met any kids my age who liked "those Chinese cartoons." In fact, I was always made fun of. It's why I latched onto these magazines, and the letters column like Oh My Goddess' "Letters to the Enchantress."It was the only time I was able to see people talking about stuff I knew. I was made fun of in real life, and the only way I knew I wasn't alone was by seeing people who could have penpals asking for more friends, people with easier connections and their underground magazine/comic-making.
Only anime fans I'd met before, say, 2003 or 2004, were fans as old as my mother and usually male. Suffice it to say, I didn't hang much with them. The reason why I note the years is because I started cosplaying iirc and started to meet people who were getting into anime thanks to the broader internet availability and cable TV (Toonami!) -- and cosplay still wasn't big in Puerto Rico, but I kept at it and met new people. More ppl began to join me in cosplaying!
Of course, because anime was beginning to spread beyond, it also meant people now started to like "those Chinese cartoons" (ones that I was told were "just a phase") and suddenly forgot that they hated it before. And bullied me at times for it. And despite anime being cool now, I still wasn't one of the cool kids 🙃
(To be clear, I don't mind ppl getting into anime whatever way they do/did. I'm just more pointing how people like me don't suddenly become more important just because their hobbies were now cool.)
(That is, until I also was lucky to get Newtype Japan through the Previews catalog and people wanted to see these magazines to see what was up in Japan for about 3 minutes before pulling Beavis and Butthead moves and huh-huh-hu'ing about all the PRON SEXY STUFF XD Typical kids. )
...extreme tangents aside, people involved in those magazines SHOULD be heralded more, mentioned more. Only oldtaku, I'd wager, remember Trish Ledoux and even then, I wonder who ever looked at the credits page obsessively and committed some of those names to memory like I did.
(In fact, I was so happy to find her on twitter a while ago -- I'd wondered how she fared after she stepped down as editor of Animerica so many years ago. Y’all should follow her ! )
And if I may be frank, whenever I see CERTAIN people say that 90s kids "don't know what early anime fandom was," or that people my age aren't to be included in reminiscing about early anime fandom because it started in the 80s...ngl, can't help and mostly think "ok boom-x-er"
Imagine thinking that there wasn't anybody around in 1994 or 1995 becoming fans of anime because we weren't old enough or something -- or think that every single one of us thinks anime started in the 2000s.
Imagine thinking there's not such a thing called ERAS, and that Animerica and Protoculture Adults WERE part of 90s fandom, and fostered kids and adults alike throughout that decade.
Imagine being lucky to work in the industry and thinking that.
(This is why I don't look down on anyone who gets into anime one way or another, or has their own versions of anime fandom, or likes what they like. I don't want to become that gatekeeper person.)
And before anyone asks "why don't *you* do this archive work" -- I don't have those connections. I'm a Z-rate comicker. There's people who have those connections and haven't done it. They have other things to do in their lives or their fandom concentration is elsewhere. A-OK!
I just mention it because there should be someone out there who DOES have the time and connections, to get the direct insight on producing these materials for the Western sides before it's all lost. To collect for all of us to look back (or learn, for those who weren't there)
Because it's not just the Japanese side that needs to be saved for historical purposes. It's the Western, Eastern European, Western European, Caribbean, African -- any history of fandom outside Japan that needs to be saved too. We HAVE the technology now. We can do it.
thanks for coming to my tedtalk, as the kids say, sorry for the long introspective rambling rant thread.

I don't know if you've done something like this before but do you think Tobirama would be a good s/o?
Ooooo okay. This could have been a yes or no question and I could have left it at that but y’all know me with my unnecessarily extensive posts so this is going under the cut
To put it simply for those who don’t wanna read all this: No. He wouldn’t be.
And I think the fact it’s plainly obvious that he’s my favorite Naruto character should erase any suspicions of me being unfairly bias when I say that. I’m not just saying it because he’s an asshole
In fact—and I don’t mean to dig at people—but a majority of the time, I see others write him off as being a 100% jerk and give no more thought to it. I guess that’s just natural given how he’s portrayed a majority of the time in the anime and manga, but I do see a different side of him. There’s more to the asshole exterior. I think there’s more potential there for his character if you look close enough. That in mind, I still don’t think it’s enough credibility to mark him as a good s/o but anywayyyyyy
In essence, if you can handle Tobirama’s brash attitude and his ignorance then okay yeah, he might still be a good s/o in your eyes. It’s just not going to be an entirely healthy relationship. Just a personal disclaimer though: I don’t think it’s easy to have a completely healthy relationship. I just don’t. I’m not saying it’s impossible or unheard of, but it’s just not easy. Obstacles will be in the way and I think especially in the shinobi world, and during Tobirama’s time in the founders era when contention was high even after Konoha’s establishment, you have to expect there to be setbacks in a relationship. Unfortunately, those setbacks are almost second nature when it comes to a relationship with Tobirama.
Of course I love imagining Tobirama with a s/o because I think he deserves one (even if this post implies otherwise) but I think when it comes down to it, and if Naruto verse has implicated as such, he’d just work better without one. Work comes before anything else. Even if he really loved a s/o, that’s going to be a hard reality to accept at times. Even if it’s his pre-Hokage days, he was still dealing with Hashirama. And before that, the warring time. He’s always been busy. I don’t think there was ever a point in Tobirama’s life where he found free time to pursue a relationship. Which is why my favorite scenario for Tobirama is an arranged marriage AU. I personally just see that as one of the only ways you’re getting Tobirama in a relationship. Otherwise, if it was a casual relationship, and even if he really liked you, it would just be so difficult. He prioritizes work, blows the lid on his temper way too easily, and doesn’t have a sensitivity chip. If you’re a sensitive person, then Tobirama is not for you. When he’s angry, he doesn’t hold back. And there’s no saying he’s going to apologize for what he did either, in extreme cases
Let’s just take a play by play on this, I guess:
Tobirama is controlling. I’ve probably said that in other headcanons before, but he is. His intentions are to protect you and keep you out of harm’s way because really, he’s just protective. But he doesn’t always execute it well. You’ll feel constantly stifled and pressured by him to do what he wants, and when he wants. He gives you a hard time when you try to be independent or brush off his counsel
His pride is also a very big obstacle. He’ll do anything to save his pride. Whether that’s refusing to admit his guilt and consequently blaming you for mistakes/arguments even if they were definitely his fault, or, not showing you any affection because he’s afraid it will peg his pride. So if he’s constantly giving you a hard time and not compensating by showing you that he actually cares, you get pretty tired of it. It’s only expected. However, I will say that when it comes to reassuring you of his feelings and showing you that affection you need, he will do it eventually. You just have to wait for it. But that’s also a hassle. It gets draining after a while. The cycle of “why is he being so mean to me then trying to make up for it without even saying sorry?” just kinda sucks
He’ll yell at you a lot if he’s in a mood. For the smallest of mistakes. He’ll yell at you in public too like Tobirama doesn’t care. He yells at everybody. Goes back to his temper problem. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tobirama could make even the most strong-willed, callous s/o cry. He’ll make you cry a lot if you’re the type who cries easily. Even if you’re not the type, tbh. You know when someone yells at you/snaps at you and it bothers you for days? That’s what Tobirama will do to you if he’s in a volatile mood. Even if he’s not yelling at you, that cold glare and those sharp eyes are just scary when he’s irritated or when he’s talking down to you. Oh and condescending you: definitely a thing he could do. Tobirama can put you down a lot if he’s in a vindictive mood
So in general yeah he can be a huge asshole and being with him can 100% lead to an unhealthy relationship… But maybe in the beginning it would be okay? When he’s getting used to the relationship and actually trying to be a nice guy so he doesn’t intimidate you. But at some point, Tobirama just stresses out with work and he finds his train of thought focusing only on that work. Anything can set him off. Anything can irritate him. The arguments will be constant. You already know Tobirama is combative and will argue about literally anything, so it’s too easy to get into arguments with him. In some extreme cases, it would be abnormal to go a day without arguing
All this being said, I do have to give Tobirama some credit, if you can forgive him after all of this:
It might just depend on who his s/o is. What kind of person they are and how they react to him. If his s/o is passive and not combative at all, it’s easier for him to see the error of his ways and apologize for his behavior. That might not be enough compensation of course, but he feels incredibly guilty and knows he’s not being fair. In general, his mood might be more placid and you can avoid the arguments and tension. He’s actually pretty pleasant aside from the occasional attitude when he’s stressed
With a hardheaded s/o who also has an attitude and will argue in circles with him, it riles him up even more and the angrier he is, the farther that empathy and sensitivity to see the error of his ways is pushed. It takes a longer time for him to come around and apologize. It also takes a while for the frustration to go away and for the guilt to set in. Like I said, Tobirama will feel guilt for all he’s done eventually. Heavy, painful guilt. He doesn’t like hurting his s/o. He can’t help the way he is. He wishes he was different but he’s been like this for too long. It’s just with a stubborn and combative s/o (which let’s be fair: it’s natural you’d want to defend yourself when Tobirama gets snappy) he can’t really see past his anger when he’s in one of his moods, so it just makes the relationship so much more difficult. It’s with this kind of s/o that you’d see all the obstacles arise
I’m always in angsty moods, but when I’m in particularly angsty moods, I like to imagine that Tobirama is constantly afraid his s/o is going to leave him. Every time he fucks up and starts yelling at them or arguing with them about something, there’s an alarm going off in his head that says “Stop right now you idiot, or they’re going to pack up and leave you when this is over” but his anger fuels him and he can’t stop. He has to have the last word. He has to be right and he has to prove you wrong
And one fatal flaw with Tobirama, is that although when you look at him you wouldn’t think he’s the type who could ever feel deep, deep compassion for another human being, when and if Tobirama finds someone he really cares about—loves, even—it’s so difficult for him to live without them. He just can’t see himself not being with them from that point on. They serve as a reminder that life isn’t all work and strain, but there’s good things in life too. They ground him. Which is why I think having a s/o would benefit Tobirama in a lot of ways. The compassion he feels for them just shifts his perspective on a lot of things. It’s that sentiment that drives the guilt when he upsets them, and leads him to try and make up for it in the end, even if he knows they might not forgive him. But he doesn’t want them to get tired of him. They could go find someone else who treats them a lot better, and he knows that. And it makes him panic sometimes. So he’d try hard to keep his temper under wraps and to be fair with his s/o, but sometimes, it’s just not possible. That’s just the kind of man Tobirama is
I’m so fucking extra sorry but basically yeah Tobirama has his ups and downs, leaning more toward the downs if he clashes easily with his s/o. ALSO to make it clear: I’m not trying to romanticize unhealthy relationships. If I were in a bad relationship w Tobirama Senju I would leave his ass on the spot. I would encourage anyone to lmao. I’m just saying that there are ways to work around a relationship with him and that he’s not completely heartless, which is why although I don’t think he would be a for sure good s/o, he wouldn’t be downright bad. He’d deeply care about a s/o if he found someone he liked, it’s just a matter of how you handle the relationship. And really, I think the way his and his s/o’s personalities mixed would really determine if he was ‘super volatile and cold’ Tobirama, or ‘decent and relatively pleasant’ Tobirama.

can you talk about your opinion on Wisely ? I kinda have no opinion of him aside from "weird psychic noah who's in the secret with Road, also a slob at using his powers"; so I'd like to be enlightened about him in general/if there's subtle characterization on him or anything
oooh boy that’s gonna be hard. I can pull on essays when I have a starting point on what to say, kinda? but from scratch it’s... complicated.
Especially since Wisely is kinda recent. I mean I lived his introduction in the manga. And by virtue of being “All Knowing” he has to remain mysterious or else he would ruin the fun, so...
this is kinda the problem with Wisely, we know he knows much, much more than anything we can imagine. So he seems too tied to the lore of the story rather than his own person, so it’s harder to pinpoint stuff about his development the way we can with any of the characters. Even the Bookmen who are linked to the lore aren’t... Living embodiment of that lore and memory like Wisely is.
That said, I kinda love him?
We have so few scenes with him but what we can gather is that yes he’s all knowing, that he’s a dork, he’s as sadistic as his family, that he LOVES his family, especially the Earl and Road
Which kinda makes sense? they’re the two that “hadn’t changed” since his days. Even if he knows the others’s “memories” (both litteraly and their noah memory) he’s new and barely know them. Hell if Tyki is anything to go by, Tyki finds him creepy because he creeps into his mind. Wisely can know eVERYTHING about Tyki but Tyki doesn’t know jackshit about Wisely. and that’s the case for everyone else.
Besides, he’s arriving right at the moment everyone has questions about the 14th and the only one who have answers are Road and Wisely. The thing is: Road is surprisingly the “Eldest Sister” of the gang: Since she survived the massacre, she saw the awakening of all the others Noah, and we can see she, for exemple, helped Skinn toward his, making it likely she did the same with the others. So I can see everyone accept Road knowing more than most, they’ve been used to that all along.
But Wisely is the new guy. He’s the last one to come back to life. Everyone should be his “senpai” by “birthstatue” but that punk just came and declared he knew better than everyone else and immediatly started to hit off with Road and the Earl.
Hell, especially for the likes of Sheryl I wonder how much kinship between Road and Wisely might sting. They all would believe they know Road well and all, that she was their eldest figure, that she joked off with them and loved them, and suddenly that new guy arrives and they start to keep secrets together and obviously have a bound that trancended Wisely’s death.
Tbh it’s probably why the guidebook mentioned that Wisely since then made himself join the Kamelot family. He can therefore remain close to Road WHILE pissing Sheryl off. If that’s not a Goal.
If anything though the fact Wisely can only create weird relationship is something that kinda puts his relationships into perspective? He seems like a nice, outgoing guy. He knows what goes on in anyone’s mind. Hell, in the manga’s bonus you even see him kinda like the exorcists. Having no boundaries to explore someone’s mind makes that Wisely can easily pinpoint them out, but yet he doesn’t seem to change his attitude a lot. I imagine he can take a glance at someone’s brain and wonder whenever or not it would be fun to hang around with them or to make their lives hell. It’s kinda fun that he’s not trying to adjust to anyone, he looks for his own fun.
What I loved with the Grey Log was how much apparently, Wisely and Tyki are enjoying “acting like hobos” in front of Fancy Sheryl. (from refusing to take bath to eating fishes out of pounds)  Tyki used to be alone in this disaster but now Wisely 100% supports him. And even more than him just finding out what’s the most fun, this is probably the closest thing we’ll ever get to Wisely connecting to his human life. And the fact he’s still carrying it on with pride is kinda amazing to me? Apparently the Jasdebi twins also love to play dress up with him? which is hilarious? (there’s also a bonus of them bullying Wisely by pulling his bandana if i remember). And he has a pet toad that apparently comes from when he became a Noah. I have no idea what to make of that aside that it is very cute.
So... trying not to look at the guidebook... wisely is so new we barely have enough info on him. And he’s too surrounded by mystery.
I think it’s undeniable that he cares for his family and that he is himself a rather playful person. He knows too much and we don’t know enough so we can’t relate.
Okay so one thing i think about, aside from the fact he kept contact with Road (which is WILD because Sheryl got very angry at the Bookmen and started to go further in his tortures when Road disappeared but somehow wisely could just have cleared it up?? But then I doubt Wisely cares much for whatever the hell they’re doing, and whatever Road is doing must remain a secret even from their family), and that he seems to be very adamant to protect the Earl:
When the Earl has his massive breakdown crying about how he is not Mana, Wisely hugs him tight and tries to calm him down right? Wisely obviously knows something, and it’s even to wonder if he could dig deeper about Mana Walker (even if we KNOW he knew Mana D Campbell). But he remained... so soft. So careful. He saw the Earl’s meltdown and was only preoccuped with making it easier for the Earl. It’s rather sweet and it shows that he has a very concerned side to him.
I think all i can say about Wisely is how... easily he could have been someone else? He could so easily have stayed distant in his own self-important mind. He could so easily be dropping every information he has on people. He could so easily just not care about making connections with people he can read like open books. He could so easily just know what someone would expect and act like it to controle them. But.... all of that isn’t in Wisely. For a All Knowing Character, he’s surprisingly gentle, he’s surprisingly outgoing, fun, trying to make connections. He tries to bound with people on his own terms, with his own preferences.
So i think that’s what I find interesting with Wisely? His archetype could have been anything, hell, it could have been a parallelism to the Bookmen’s lack of emotion (and perhaps the fact he so much as LOVE his peple serves as one, that he doesn’t hold back from having feelings despite his knowledge, that could work as a foil) but mostly the idea we can get of him he’s that he’s sweet and funny and teasing.
And it was a nice addition to the Noah cast. I mean that we know well, we had the Earl (duh) who’s very sweet and caring, Road who is more playfully teasing and also caring, looking over how everyone deals with their internal issues, overprotective ect... We have Tyki that is extremely bound to his own humanity and therefore has the dilema of being the one who awoke his Noah so much he cant get back ot his human life. We had Skinn who was full of anger and frustration. Then we had The Twins, who represent a cruel childishness, who are always defying their family’s being (while loyal to the cause, they’re just brats). We had Lullubel, more stoic, more duty focused. Then we had Sheryl, the sadistic manipulator, sweet talker who prepares political horrors with a sweet work of tongue. And Nea... who’s Nea. (i’m not really counting the others ones since they’re not that developped. Fiidora perhaps deserves a mention under “sadistically childishly horrifying”)
Wisely works a bit how caring the Earl can be. And the fact he bounded more easily with Road and Tyki is also something to take into account. He’s the knowledge, he’s a manipulator on the feelings he can gather yes, but we also see him as more gentle, more playful, not in the amounts of cruauty we saw the youngest of the cast (.. which just reminded me the twins are actually 18 while Wisely is 17. Not that it matters when Wisely remembers all his past lives but.. still.).
Ofc while all of them remains a certain amount of sadistic ofc.
Idk i guess it’s.. a question of what he could have been and what he adds to the cast that kinda gets my attention? and there’s mostly a lot to picture in his dynamic with his family and perhaps the Exorcists if we take the Komui Corner for granted.
THIS IS ALL OVER THE PLACE but unless i have an idea where i’m supposed to go i end up.... all over the place.
Idk i like him fine. Not a fav by all account bc i still wait to see how he might develop (if a character like him can develop) but.... we’ll see.
Take care!
