The fic ask game: 4, 11, & 13 for “If you fall, I will catch you” & “Cooking Up Something Sweet” which are just two of MANY fics that I adore btw. ❤️
Ooh, fun! I also love both of those fics!
Alright, I'll answer the questions for If You Fall first!
4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?
Oh, gosh, this is a hard one! I'm terrible about remembering what I wrote once it's out in the world 😂 but Wayne has a number of fantastic lines in this one! Like this one:
“Son,” Wayne said, weary and exasperated. “You can’t pull the wool over your old man’s eyes. The only Chrissy I ever recall you knowing in Hawkins was that Cunningham girl, and I seem to remember you having quite the set of heart eyes over her back in the day.”
Or this one:
“You’ve got an awful lot of weight on those shoulders of yours,” he said, giving her a gentle squeeze before he let go. “I’m not trying to add to it. I just want you to know that, well, you two matter to me and Ed. We’re here for you, alright?”
I just adore Wayne!
11: What do you like best about this fic?
This fic is one of the more difficult to write just because it's so heavy at times. But in spite of that (or maybe because of it) I love the softness between Eddie and Chrissy. The fact that a simple touch or kiss on the cheek can mean so much is incredibly powerful, and it's a responsibility I take very seriously, too. I never want to romanticize or diminish the seriousness of Chrissy's situation, but I want there to be hope and life as well. That balance is tricky to write, but so so rewarding when I manage to do it well!
13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?
I'm terribly inconsistent about the music I listen to when I write! I've definitely veered a bit more toward 80s-esque music, partially because it's set in the canonical world/ages of Chrissy and Eddie, and partially because of the song title 🥰 other than that, I mostly listen to movie soundtracks! I think 80s pop/rock is excellent background if you're reading this fic!
Alright, on to Cooking Up Something Sweet!
4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?
Again, tricky! But slightly easier because I only had a oneshot to look through 😂 might be cheating since this a chunk of dialogue instead of a line, but oh well 🤷‍♀️
“Chrissy,” he said softly, waiting to speak until her eyes met his. “Would it be completely out of line if I asked to kiss you?” Her lips parted in surprise, and that telltale blush rushed over her face again. “I don’t think that would be out of line,” she finally stammered, keeping eye contact with some difficulty. “I think—I think I might like it if you asked me.” “Okay.” Eddie shuffled closer until they stood face to face. “Can I kiss you, sweetie?” “Yeah,” Chrissy breathed, already reaching for him.
11: What do you like best about this fic?
I really enjoyed the challenge of creating intrigue and attraction despite them not actually meeting until nearly the end of the fic! They only communicate via Instagram messages, so their actual contact is very limited, but it was really fun to play with!
13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?
The music I think of for this fic is late 60s-early 70s pop like The Beatles, Billy Joel, The Beach Boys etc., because that's what my mom always listens to when she cooks, and now it's what I listen to in my own kitchen when I cook!
Thanks so much for the asks 💛
Ask me more questions about specific fics!

Tag nine people you’d like to get to know better! :3
Favorite color(s)?
Shades or purple or red, or just straight up black. Purple has been a childhood favorite, and red because it looks like blood (which is very pretty)!
Favorite Flavor(s)?
Hmm. I really like chocolate, that’s one of my favorites. Caramel is really close, vanilla is pretty decent. I also like a lot of fruit flavored stuff (typical for a fruit like me /jk). Uhhh that’s about it really.
Favorite music?
Uhhhh, a lot of things. Mostly 60’s rock (specifically more psychedelic/experimental pieces), some 70’s rock and synth/Moog stuff, and lots and lots of 80’s junk alongside bedroom + indie pop. Very strange bunch, I know.
Favorite movies?
OHHH this is easy. It’s mostly 80’s stuff (shocking). Return of the living dead is the top one, The never ending story was my first ever film, The goonies is great, etc. I also really like Godzilla, my faves being Godzilla vs Megalon, and Godzilla vs Gigan was really fun!
Fave series?
Dark shadows, (mostly Showa) Godzilla, Hanna Barbera, Krofft Brothers shows, Curious Archive’s spec bio series, Return of the living dead (only the first one and part two, I’m not interested in the third one..)
Last song?
Me and Micheal by MGMT !!! GRRRRR !!!
Last series?
God um. Series wise, like… I read some classic goosebumps books?? Like Welcome to Camp Nightmare & Werewolf of Fever Swamp, but that’s about it for like. Series. The other one I can think of is the two Magnus Chase books I have read way back.
Last movie?
THE FNAF MOVIE !!! IT WAS SO FUCKING GOOD HOLY FUCKING SHIT !!! RAUUUUUGHHH !!!! I WAS FULL ON STARING AT THE SCREEN THE WHOLE TIME !!!
Currently reading?
Nothing…
What? Go on, there’s nothing here, move on !!!
Currently watching?
YouTube analysis videos about Bluey. Earlier I was watching Yup Kup tf2 videos and imagining David Collins being the Demo-man, exploding people with bombs 💕

The Sheatles AU is also just fun for me because of the cultural implications, like, even though I'm basing them in my mind on female singer-songwriters of the 70s I know that in the beginning they would probably mostly take after the likes of Black pop and rock-'n'-roll artists plus the white guys who imitate them. And then of course they have their whole arc through the 60s of fighting for creative control and respect in the industry and getting out there artistically and politically (and sexually).
Also I think girl Paul when she's older would freely admit to having been involved with girl John but always with the qualifier of "it's different with two women, we have less walls with each other than men do".
ohhh interesting. them being women would've definitely changed a lot culture-wise and also probably how other bands/singers of the time interacted with them. and also, if we're keeping the actual-beatles-timeline it would've definitely also impacted how well they bounced back from scandals like the "more popular than christ" thing and paul's comments on lsd. the reaction from the american evangelical right-wing to the christ thing wouldve been even more insane - that already impacted their popularity & sales in america but as sheatles i feel like that would've had an even bigger & longer lasting impact. also would john's image as the outspoken, funny, slightly-mean-spirited beatle have worked for sheatle john?
as for the paul bit. yeah she would make the funniest comments about that. at the same time putting it on a pedestal by saying stuff like "two women just get each other way more than any man could" while simultaneously almost putting it into the "well sex between women doesnt count" category.

random question but erwin gives Lana stan vibes and same lolz but then i wondered what music your characters from strangerville story all listen to?
First off I am so happy to answer this question for you!! Thank you for asking! I love love love music and love this question!
Tumblr media
That being said, before I begin I want you to know that I'm so sorry to burst a personal headcanon you've made about my version of Erwin Pries...but he has probably never heard a Lana Del Rey song in his entire life lmfao (I'm assuming that's who you're talking about). But Erwin is an EA premade, so if your Erwin is a Lana Del Rey stan I love that for you and that's valid!!! My Erwin just isn't haha (but his sister Maggie would like her music!) Anyway!!!
Very long response below the cut! ↓
Erwin mostly listens to older music: he loves music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s and listens to everything on vinyl or cassette (he is very passionate about the preservation of physical media, he is the Paranoid ass king after all). His favorites are Fleetwood Mac, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Queen, David Bowie, Abba, Neil Diamond, Jim Croce, Billy Joel, John Denver, James Taylor, Elton John, The Mamas and Papas, Johnny Cash, and so on. He also has a not-so-secret love for musicals and claims that the Jesus Christ Superstar soundtrack is one of the best pieces of composition to ever exist (he also likes Godspell, Rent, Xanadu, and many more) Get him drunk enough and he will talk about how Mamma Mia is "Literally a transcendent work of art with whimsy and heartbreak and joy and a tender ass storyline at the heart that quite literally fucks so hard. Fucking Meryl Streep. Fuck!" Direct quote. That man hardly listens to anything post-1990, with the exception of "Queen Florence Welch" (Florence and the Machine).
Zoe appreciates all kinds of music, but has a deep love for the soul music that she heard around the house growing up. She likes music with feeling and depth, and the lyrics are most important to her but if the song isn't deep, it better have a good beat that she can dance to! Her personal favorite artists include Otis Reading, Stevie Wonder, Sam Cooke, Dionne Warwick, Beyoncé, Alicia Keys, Rhianna, Lauryn Hill, The Temptations, Roberta Flack, Janelle Monáe, Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey, and so on!
Beckett's looks deceive him because he loves pop music. He is listening to the current hits, think Billboard 100s exclusively lol. He might have listened to a few rock or rap songs to get "pumped up" back in his football days, but for the most part he is always listening to pop - he even likes boybands, but won't willingly admit that lmao. He's a Swiftie through and through, and he will fight for her honor on any Twitter thread or in-person discussion. He also has a love for 90s and early 2000s country artists like Shania Twain, Alison Krauss, Lee Ann Womack, and The Dixie Chicks (now The Chicks) because of cleanin' and cookin' Sundays with his momma <3
Junia doesn't care about music that much! She doesn't have any favorite artists, she's never even bought a CD and probably couldn't tell you 5 bands or artists off the top of her head. She's one of those people who will listen to anything that "has a good beat" while she's working out, and it doesn't even have to have words. She's listening to music more for background noise as opposed to being passionate about it or seeking it out.
Anwar listens to alternative music mostly! Bands like the 1975, The Strokes, Paramore, The Clash, Fall Out Boy, Arctic Monkeys, The Black Keys, The Neighborhood, and so on. He definitely went through a pop-punk, Hot Topic, combo of emo and scene phase in his teen years in the 2000s. (Iykyk, if you don't... look it up lmao. It was a time to be alive.) If they could play at Warped Tour, he listens to them lmao. But he's cool with most pop or radio music, he's not like a music snob or anything.
Tashia listens to pretty much everything, but she also loves metal music. Idk if you've seen the Pixar/Disney movie "Monster's University" but there's a scene in there where the mom of one of the main characters drops them off at Monsters Inc. and she's like "I'll just be listening to my tunes until you get back" in like the sweetest voice and then as she's rolling up the windows you can hear metal music blasting through the speakers and she's just like... calmly vibing like she's listening to elevator music or smooth jazz lmfao. It's very funny. That's how I imagine Tashia's music taste to be and it concerns everyone around her <3

Hi Setia, it's Lio! Do you have any other Iranian songs/artists to recommend? 🫶🏼 I'd love to discover some more!!
hey! how you doing? :D
aw, I'm glad the ones that I recommended have interested you :3
anyways, one of the artists that I absolutely love is Farhad Mehrad! his songs are so soulful, yet they can always make someone cry 😭
these are some of his original songs:
by the way!!! in the early 60s, before he got into writing his own songs in Persian, he used to cover English rock n roll songs and he'd perform them with the band that he was in, The Black Cats. (its videos can be found on youtube - just search "The Black Cats Farhad")
speaking of Black Cats, some of the other members also left this band to start their solo careers - just like Farhad. one of them was Shahram Shabpareh. even though at the start of his career, he was influenced by American artists and his focus was on jazz and/or rock n roll, after he left the Black Cats, his genre changed a lot and since then, he's been known for his disco songs and being an Iranian "one-man Abba" 😄
if you liked his songs, I also recommend another pop singer from the same era: Googoosh. back in the 70s, she was mostly famous for being an actress, but her songs are nice too :)
also, in the 60s, around the time that the Black Cats was formed, there were also some other bands like them that were trying their best to be as great as the American and British artists that they looked up to. these bands (Black Cats, The Rebels, Golden Ring,...) would usually have gigs only in Tehran and Abadan. well, their members were all so young and new to the music industry back then. so, their works didn't have much quality. but one cool thing about them is that they liked to use their own creativity when covering English songs and give an Iranian atmosphere to them. for example, they'd play the songs in 6/8 time which is a common time signature for folk Persian songs; or they'd add some Persian lyrics to the song. however, I personally think that this idea wouldn't work out well sometimes...
here's a playlist of Iranian music of the 60s and in the song "What He Can Do" by The Rebels, you can easily hear how this idea of adding Iranian elements has made the song kinda low-quality. because this combination of pop-rock and folk Iranian doesn't have an Iranian sound anymore 🥴
youtube
umm....that's all for now ig :)) <3

Ansolutely confused at how now the damn 2000s and late 1990s are trending when I was actually born in that era? Like I understand now the internet is mostly blogged by teenagers and young adults. Early forums were full of late Gen X and early Millenials talking about High School and DOOM and computer science and Star Trek, and there was always a notalgia for their time, which in the mid teens to mid twenties in the early 90s was the 70s.
Of course in the 90s nostalgia was for 30 years ago when more mainstream and popular musicians in their late 20s and early 30s pined for the sounds of their childhood, the 1960s. Smash Mouth’s Walkin on the Sun, Austin Powers, the… Live Action Flinstones Movies I guess? And Movies about Vietnam or life after Vietnam like Forrest Gump and Full Metal Jacket (technically late 80s but you get what I mean)
Mainstream Anachronistic appeal is for 30 years ago, producers and musicians and designers and advertisers use their childhood experiences and background to use nostalgia and a unique and no longer popular aesthetic to appeal to an also rich with money, decently wealthy, nostalgic group of consumers who grew up in a similar era.
Not only that but that’s how nostalgia influences politics. Eisenhower got elected in the 50s for being a war veteran and talking about benefits for American infrastructure but also booming markets, appealing to the 1920s postwar boom after WWI
Kennedy appeals to the idea of equity and social justice and progress like FDR in the 30s along with LBJ.
Nixon uses the iconography of WWII to justify nam and the boomers following their parents to serve their country.
Reagan appeals to the “good old fashioned family” of the 1950s and his stardom in the movies during that era to get elected. Reagan uses a LOT of his old age and fashion to imitate a nuclear family husband and his wife Nancy as the housewife. Drug panics were more a 1930s thing but the fear of gangs and gang violence with drugs was a 50s thing, and evangelism from the 1950s came back in swing with the religious right!
Bill Clinton uses his hippie background to appeal to Liberals and pushes for free markets but equity amongst people like early Kennedy.
Bush and Obama surprisingly don’t appeal that much to the 1970s or 80s, giving the early 2010s and 2000s this unique aesthetic of politicians being a new template.
Then Donald Trump comes along as a synthesis of Reagan era nationalism and Jerry Falwell era hope and faith of the 80s with sprinkles of Rush Limbaugh era bigotry from the 90s, and now we have essentially Bill Clinton 2.
I lived through the 2010s and basically saw the 80s get revived in real time. The 2000s for me was a blur but I do remember a couple movies or music would imitate 70s pop and funk music. The Bee Gees got popular again, while emo rock got popular I think properties like Scooby Doo and other stuff from the 70s were getting franchise movies. Star Trek movies too!
Then the 2010s start and you get a trickle of nostalgia, mostly geek and gamer companies selling properties from the 80s like He-man, Transformers, Nintendo game references to Mario and Zelda and Metroid, google does a doodle for Pac man’s 30th anniversary, Wreck it Ralph is a movie about arcade games, Michael Bay makes dough with his Transformers movies.
Then we get Marvel and D but specifically superheroes from the Bronze age of the 1980s. Watchmen, the Dark Knight trilogy, and heck the Avengers are more based off the modern 80s designs than the silver age 60s ones. Nerd culture is in full swing, by the mid 2010s Adam Sandler made a movie where 80s video games invade earth, Thor Ragnarok is essentially a movie built on 80s aesthetics, Five Nights At Freddy’s is a game about Chuck E Cheese horror mascots like those of the 80s! Indie games base a lot of game design and aesthetic from games of the NES! Shovel Knight for gods sake!
IT got a remake and that’s about a clown that terrorizes Maine every 27 years coming out 27 years after the 1990 TV series.
Thundercats reboot, She-ra reboot, Ghostbusters gets a 2016 movie, Pac man got a cartoon on Disney XD for some reason, music begins using synth pop again, rap explodes on the scene!
And by the 2020s after a decade of nostalgia, there’s been an underground movement of 90s nostalgia, mainly indie games and music that imitate either 90s platformers or 3D aesthetic or the revive of the Boomer shooter thanks to New Blood studios and DOOM 2016, 90s cartoons nostalgia makes the return of the zany and unhinged animation that only lurked on Newgrounds for so long. That was during the early to mid 2010s when people in their teens and 20s were pining for the era of the 90s. Now the 90s are turning 30. Mainstream appeal is making it to producers new on the scene, consumers born during that era, and designers taking aesthetics from their surroundings.
The teens and young adults now in their teens to mid twenties are born between 2008 (15 years old) and 1998 (25 years old) meaning that… the new counterculture of young people nostalgic for their childhood were born in the late 90s to 2000s the era of PS2 video games and chrome and see through electronics and bubbly round design and shiny gradients is here. Though most people on this site were born during that era, the people in their later 20s were around to play those games and absorb their culture. Given 2 more years and we’ll be in the mid 2020s where the appeal of pop culture is the mid 90s, of the Playstation, the N64, the simpsons, and post-punk.
Then the nostalgia for the young rebels is the mid 2000s to early 2010s, after all nostalgia for the Nintendo DS while in it’s height right now when people my age remember fondly that hardware, it’s fading away, along with nostalgia for the Wii… to the Golden Age of Cartoon Network and the era of the late DS and the 3ds, admittedly PKMN Black and White and late 2000s cartoons got revivals back in 2020 due to memes, but that was a fad, this will be aesthetic and artistic.
Memes revive culture from 10 years ago, young adults and teens revive culture from 20 years ago, and culture from 30 years ago is the mainstream.
We currently live in the era where the 2000s are popular on Tumblr, give it 2 more years, and we will be in the era of mid to late 2000s culture while the 90s nostalgia is in full swing.

Here we go again babey. I should note also that a lot of these albums are ones I already know and have an opinion on so yeah I'm not some perfect critic or whatever. Some of these albums I'm going into for the first time and others might be my hundredth listen. Do take my opinions seriously though because I am the best at listening to music ever.
Tumblr media
Boyz II Men - II
As The Beatles begat The Monkees, as Nirvana begat 3 Doors Down, so did Boyz II Men beget NSYNC. I don't want to imply that Boyz II Men II is secretly a masterpiece, it falls to many of the classic traps of 90s R&B. Being overly sensual to the point of camp, slightly too clean vocals, and the curse of the 4-5 minute runtime all plague this album. The production does show some ties to the Motown classics of the 60s though. All the instrumentals are very nice and the more energetic songs are genuine bops that I would throw on any party playlist. Also it ends on an amazing acapella cover of Yesterday.
Tumblr media
The Ronettes - Presenting the Fabulous Ronettes
I have such a soft spot for these early 60s girl groups so forgive me for not being critical here. The Ronettes are just wonderful. Phil Specter, may his soul never know peace, was one of the best producers of the 60s and this album contains some of his best work. The tones of every instrument mingles into a delicious musical soup. Does that metaphor work? It doesn't matter, this is musical comfort food. A peek into what a weird horrible man thought teens were like.
Tumblr media
Marvin Gaye - Here, My Dear
Not a lot of albums have "divorced guy energy" as strong as this one. While I do like it I'm still always amused to see this listed as one of the best of all time. The whole album is made up of passive aggressive digs at his ex wife. In fact the whole record was made as part of his divorce settlement. I'm not kidding he had to record an album and give all the royalties to his ex. It's equal parts funny and pathetic and wouldn't be more than a strange footnote in musical history if it weren't for Gaye's natural songwriting chops.
Tumblr media
Bonnie Raitt - Nick of Time
I cannot even fathom what it would be like to think that Bonnie Raitt deserved a spot on any top anything list. With middle of the road performances and derivative, not to mention dated, country/blues rock styling Bonnie Raitt just about manages to keep me awake through the entire album. I wouldn't recommend this to anyone that likes music.
Tumblr media
Harry Styles - Fine Line
This is the guy that Wattpad teens are being sold to by their parents? Honestly it's mostly pretty fine. The upbeat pop songs are good enough, but the slow ballads are insufferable. It is sometimes apparent that Styles thinks he is John Lennon, it is always apparent that he isn't. I would never trust a man who wants you to believe this badly that he is feeling Big Emotions.
Tumblr media
Linda Ronstadt - Heart Like a Wheel
The 70s wasn't particularly kind to country music, then again no decade since the 60s has been. The constant move away from it's folk roots towards a more polished aesthetic have tormented the genre for decades. Linda Ronstadt is not immune to the sanitization that country music was facing, but she does at least deliver some good tunes and an amazing voice. I guarantee you will have When Will I Be Loved stuck in your head, I know I do.

Cw: self ship content (Sal Fisher x Grace H.), playlist links, so many songs), I write this while a lot of stressful stuff was happening. If there are typos I'll get to them
Playlist here! (YouTube Music app)
Buckle up buttercup, Sal and I have a lot to say on this subject!
Sal was somewhat of an odd bird, growing up, very sheltered and isolated until the move
So before Nockfell, he didn't really listen to a lot of music
He heard what was on the radio when Henry played it, songs that were popular enough to be on TV, and that's pretty much it
Henry likes contemporary, blues, and jazz
Diane liked pop music from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, like The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Dire Straits, and Chicago
Sal honestly thought modern music sucked, and he only liked some of Henry's music, mostly the blues
So he didn't pay much attention to music
And then he moved to Addison's and met Larry, who played him Sanitys Fall almost immediately and...
It was love 💘
Sal and Larry were listening to Metallica's Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) when Sal's prosthetic broke Larry's nose
For those of you who didn't click the link, Anesthesia is a bass solo from Metallica's Kill Em All album
What makes headbanging to this song interesting, at least if you do it the way its writer, Cliff Burton does (and Sal and Larry were) is: Cliff headbangs to this song at quarter speed, and then speeds up when the song transitions
So Sal and Larry were in Larry's room, headbanging... hard, and on tempo for the song
When the song transitions to the faster part, Sal just lets loose
He kind of forgets that he had to make a quick repair to his one of his prosthetic's straps at school with Mrs. Packerton's stapler
And his prosthetic just comes flying off on a downbeat, sailing across the room and colliding with Larry's schnoz
We all know the rest, this is the first time Larry saw Sal without his prosthetic, and they had a good cry afterwards
Sal: I still can't believe you didn't look away... everyone looks away at least at first 🥺
Larry, hugging Sal: Bro... 🥺 you're fine dude, you look fine. Don't cry, dude, you're gonna make me cry
Sal, muttering,: I love you so much, bro
Larry: 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺 bro!!! I love you too. You're my brother from another mother, my bestie from another teste
Back to music, sorry, I get distracted
Sal's other music buddies are Chug, Robert and Ash
These are who he got his other music types from, other than metal
Chug kept him current on the alt rock scene
Robert introduced him to punk
And Ash covered the more obscure, indy stuff
So Nirvana, Green Day, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Audioslave/Soundgarden, Stabbing Westward, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, etc...
That all came from Chug (he's got more interests than food and Maple, guys)
Flaming Lips, Talking Heads, The Pixies, Veruca Salt, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones etc, that's alllll Ash
Robert contributed The Misfits (all iterations), Danzig, The Clash, Black Flag, NOFX, Rollins Band, and the like
An addition to Sal's musical tastes?
He likes folksy sounding stuff, leftovers from his moms influence he thinks
So, and please be kind and bear in mind, Sal was a 90s kid (so that's why all these old bands, I'm 45 chronologically, our realities are seperated by 13 years... Sals my other old man :3)
Sal thinks Diane would love the new folk music, bands he likes like Beck, Cake, Blues Traveller, etc
Honestly, Sal just listens to what he thinks sounds good, sounds he's collected that he likes
Fun fact: Sal was in high school choir at Nockfell, the whole 3.5 years there (Sal graduated a semester early)
Unfortunately he had two things working against him
Sal's voice: while lovely to the ear, it was already deep and raspy from damage to his vocal chords and throat when he was attacked.
Plus he had to take testosterone in order to reach normal growth benchmarks, so his voice did some crazy things
And choir was first period, when Sal's voice was still waking up (it takes until around 11:30am)
His prosthetic muffled his voice
So between being muffled and trying to be quiet so his voice didn't crack
Sal really didn't get loud enough to contribute to the overall sound of the choir
But Sal still had fun and learned how to read music
He also applied what he learned to his guitar and bass lessons with Larry
Bonus fun fact: Travis was in choir with Sal, that's where they grew their friendship (if you guys want Sal and Travis friendship in choir hcs, leave 🎼 in the comments!)
Sal has a great singing voice, still, as an adult
It sounds a little like Gavin Rossdale from Bush (this is our song, Sal sounds great when he sings it and he's taught me to play it on bass)
When playing his instruments:
Sal has had varying luck with instruments
He excels at stringed instruments
Instruments in order of success: ✅✅ bass guitar, rhythm guitar, lead guitar, harmonica, keyboard/piano/synth, drum machine, actual drums, ocarina, melodica, accordion, woodwinds/flutes, brass instruments🚫🚫🚫
Larry taught Sal bass guitar first
He leaned a ton of Metallica, Mötorhead, Sanitys Fall, and when Sal got really good, Larry taught him some Death songs, which are notoriously hard
But Larry was considerate of Sal's music taste and also noticed Sal learned songs he liked or knew faster
So Larry worked with Todd and printed pages upon pages of bass tabs for a slew of songs that weren't metal, but were 100% Sal
Tabs for Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Soundgarden, Rage Against the Machine, Green Day, Korn... if it was 90s rock, Sal probably had tabs for it, either originally, or as additions
Sal got one of those extra wide binders and keeps them all in there in protective plastic sleeves, still has it to this day.
You have to open it a specific way, it's so full, or all the rings pop open and plastic covered pages go everywhere
Once Sal was proficient in bass playing,
Larry started teaching Sal rhythm
That process was quick and painless
Sal picked it up very quickly, equating rhythm lines to basslines with an extra string
So then they moved on to lead, Larry teaching Sal random riffs and solos
Sal is just naturally musically inclined
He took to it all like a fish to water
Larry had an ocarina in his room on his shelf. I don't know how many of you noticed it in game
Sal is a fidgeter
If it's something musical that Sal can mess with, you can bet he's going to
Sal had pretty good luck with the ocarina
He'd tried other instruments that required him to blow in them like clarinets, recorders, flutes, and horns... it didn't go great
Sal will never be Kenny G or Chuck Mangione or even the meme dad playing trombone while someone slams an oven door
But Sal figured out that if he plays Larry's ocarina upside down, the instrument actually covers his cheek hole enough to make a good seal so he can blow into the instrument and play.
This sparked Sal's curiosity
What other instruments could Sal teach himself?
As it turns out, he taught himself harmonica
He kinda just... shoves it into his cheek hole and cups his hands over it all, moving it from side to side to create the notes he wants to play
Sal is pretty smug about his harmonica playing
He rivals a lot of famous bluesmen now and he's completely self taught
Though sometimes I want to throw his harmonica out the window 😅
Sal's words on playing the harmonica: "Sometimes you suck and sometimes you blow. You just gotta time it right"
If he tells you this, and his prosthetic is off, you'll get to see his grin, self satisfied and a little crooked.
Sometimes Sal does vocals for his band he shares with Larry and Robert, One Eye Sally, only a few songs
A couple of them are folk songs, where he plays his harmonica
Sal used to turn his back to the crowd during gigs for his harmonica solos because he has to push his prosthetic up, then he just goes ham like this
But nowadays, Sal will perform without his prosthetic, he's become comfortable with who he is and doesn't care if people see his face (well you think I'm both pretty and handsome, shouldn't that be all that matters?)
Influences for the songs Sal does the vocals for are: Beck, Cake, Blues Traveler, Kenny Wayne Shepard, and Shawn Mullins
When Sal sings...
He's such a crooner!
Sal has a rich, deep, raspy bass baritone singing voice
And since he actually paid attention in choir, man can he use it
At first, Sal can be a little shy about his singing
I remember the first time I heard him sing, he thought I couldn't hear
Sal and I work in the same building, at a dispensary
He plays his playlist at work, since it's eclectic and relaxing. Then we play it in the car, and our speakers at home pick his music up as soon as Sal gets in range
We were sitting on the couch, unwinding right after work, and Sal was singing "Amber" by 311 ,quietly singing along to the song as it drifted out of the speaker system
He was pleasantly surprised when I hugged him from behind, nestling my ear up to his upper back, so I could hear better
In fact he teared up a little
Sal regularly sings me to sleep
The songs he usually sings to me are "Asleep" by The Smiths or "Chewing Cotton Wool" by The Japanese House

wait epic… “The Word” was my fifth song of 2023. now I’m curious about the choreography! Are you a dancer? What kind of dance do you choreograph?
i also had queen and the Beatles on my top 5 artists! (I got to see queen with adam lambert in concert at one point… exsquisite). My top 5 were Beatles, Billy Joel, Elton John, Led Zeppelin, and Queen.
ok also you may have to explain the monkees to me bc I don’t quite understand the premise (band? tv show?) and just scroll past all their little floppy haired pictures on my dashboard… it is time to seize the day
Btw I use she/her pronouns! What about u? :)
OMG OUR MINDS!!!! it’s such a catchy song
I teach dance to mostly elementary-age kids, which is a lot of fun! Personally, my favorites are more traditional styles like ballet and tap, but I’m also really into dance involving some kind of apparatus, so like “manipulation disciplines” (baton twirling, hooping, and the apparatus handling element of rhythmic gymnastics) and aerial (silks, lyra, sling, trapeze, etc). And I LOVE using 60s/70s rock music for choreo (and sometimes new wave); a lot of teachers will only use “kids music” for their classes, but I always find that kids really enjoy older music/rock music/the beatles especially.
Omg I was obsessed with Elton John as a kid after he was on the bob the builder Christmas special 👀 like we have so many home videos of me performing crocodile rock in the living room lmao. so Elton John holds such a special place in my heart 🩵 also do you have any Led Zeppelin recs?? I enjoy their music whenever I hear it on the radio, but I don’t really know where to start to properly get into them! Also I’m sooooo jealous you got to see Queen + AL live!!!!! I’m sure it was amazing!!!! Sadly they did not come anywhere near my city on the rhapsody tour
okay you’re getting like a proper essay on the monkees because it’s a complicated situation. Micky likes to say they’re a fake band that became a real band. basically the creators of the show wanted to make an American version of the hard day’s night movie but in tv format. so they held auditions for the show and ended up casting 2 guys who were more musicians (mike & peter) and 2 guys who were more actors (micky & davy, although davy was a broadway performer and could definitely sing and do percussion, but had basically no experience in rock/pop music). so obviously they’re not like a “real band” bc they’re assembled so artificially. they assign micky to be the drummer even though he has no drumming experience whatsoever. Davy is actually a proficient drummer, but the showrunners want him to be their front man (even though he only ends up singing maybe half of the songs, but I digress) and they think he’s too short to be behind the drum kit. they also don’t allow the guys to play any of the instruments on the songs, just the vocals. Mike gets a clause in his contract that a couple of his original songs will be recorded, but it’s still session musicians. but the songs are catchy and the show is funny, and they become fairly popular :) if you’ve watched big time rush, the monkees show has a really similar vibe!! the four of them are essentially playing caricatured versions of themselves, with their own names, except they make Peter play the dumb one and he quietly resents this.
Part 2: The Trouble Begins
So the monkees are a fake band in a tv show, right? That seems to be the case until the showrunners start releasing albums of their music, taking the monkees on tour (they had to teach micky to drum for this), and, crucially, insisting to the public that the monkees actually do play their own music. and then forcing the guys to lie about it too (not to mention the frankly abusive conditions the monkees were being forced to work in). eventually the guys start telling the world how they’re not allowed to play their instruments, and instead of being sympathetic to their plight, everyone suddenly HATES the monkees for being a fraud. and legitimately some of that stigma continues to this day
Part 3: Total Control
While all that drama is going down, Mike and Peter decide that they actually want to make their own music, and micky and Davy get on board pretty soon. so the four of them start fighting to get creative control over the band. in one altercation over this in a hotel room, Mike famously punches a hole in a wall and says “that could’ve been your face, motherfucker” to the showrunner. so eventually they get creative control over the band and put out 4 albums really quickly! the tv show flops after season 2 because they’ve been outed as frauds and also because they were being more themselves than they were in season 1. they make a movie that flops horribly. Peter leaves the band. Mike leaves the band. Micky and Davy try desperately to keep it alive but after a little bit Davy becomes too much of a bitch and micky is having too much of a quarter-life crisis. none of them are basically ever taken seriously as performers again. Was it a real band? Was it a tv show? You decide!
I use she/they pronouns! thank you for asking ♡
anyway, do you have anything you’re looking forward to this month? I’m looking forward to being done with finals after next Tuesday and possibly seeing a Pink Floyd cover band closer to Christmas!
Much love, talk to you soon xoxo

Priscilla
Tumblr media
Director Sofia Coppola Stars Cailee Spaeny, Jacob Elordi, Ari Cohen, Tim Post Italy/USA 2023 Language English 1hr 53mins Colour, black & white
Stranded in Graceland
When it was announced that Sofia Coppola was making a film about Priscilla Presley’s relationship with Elvis, there was a general ‘Yeah, makes sense’ vibe. Coppola mostly makes movies about young women (2020’s On The Rocks was a rare sortie into middle age) and her characters are often trapped by their circumstances and operating in constricted (but usually quite grand) spaces.
All of this is true of Priscilla, which could be seen as a companion piece to Marie Antoinette, with Graceland taking the place of Versailles, showbiz royalty subbing in for the dynastic kind.
Tumblr media
The early part of the movie had me thinking, ‘I know that happened, but I can’t believe it happened…’ Imagine you’re a couple in 1959 on a US military base in Germany, an air force officer and his wife, and your 14-year-old daughter is invited to a party at Elvis Presley’s house. The biggest pop star in the world, very much a grown man. Yes, your daughter/step-daughter is bored and homesick and will be endlessly sulky if she’s not allowed to go – and who could blame her? – but how could you possibly justify saying yes*?
But of course, they did say yes and Priscilla met Elvis and despite the fact that she was a child and he was in his twenties, a relationship (kissing only at that point, the film seems to be trying to reassure us, as if that would be OK) began.
Tumblr media
Cailee Spaeny plays Priscilla from 14 to her mid-20s (Spaeny is 25) and it’s rather unnerving how convincing she is in those early scenes. Jacob Elordi (who is Australian) has worked hard on the Elvis voice – I think he lacks a bit of spark, but maybe that’s what Coppola was going for (I haven’t seen the Baz Luhrmann film, so can’t compare Elordi to Austin Butler).
Tumblr media
What’s interesting – in critical terms – here is how this is and isn’t like a conventional biopic. Is because we can see the span of time and the changing hairstyles etc. Isn’t because even when the protagonist becomes reclusive (The Aviator, say, or Love & Mercy) that’s by contrast with what’s come before. But after Priscilla arrives in the US from Germany, apart from quick jaunts to Vegas and LA, she’s stranded in Graceland. This is all a bit Rosencrantz and Guildenstern – the story of what was going on off-stage while the ‘main’ story happened elsewhere.
Tumblr media
And yet, there are moments when it does feel a bit TV biopic, especially when we get to the late 1960s and early ’70s and Elvis’ comeback usurps the story from Priscilla for a few scenes. But a great ending pulls it back from the brink.
The film didn’t have the rights to Elvis’ music, and that might seem like big setback, and has been a big problem for movies in the past. But of course, this isn’t an Elvis movie and Coppola and her musical collaborators, including her husband’s band Phoenix, have assembled a wonderful soundtrack that does the job perfectly.
Tumblr media
I had huge expectations for Priscilla going in – Sofia Coppola is a director whose movies I always make a point of seeing in the cinema, and, like I said at the top, this seemed to be a perfect project for her. And probably because I had those high expectations, I was a bit disappointed.
The film is too long (even if it is short by today’s standards!) – somewhere in the late ‘60s section I was thinking, ‘Yeah, we get it.’ And for a while, it does become too like other rock biopics – and, in critical circles, if not necessarily audience ones, there’s a strong sense that Bohemian Rhapsody destroyed any remaining patience for these cliches.
Ultimately, Coppola is a far better director than that and she’s made a film that’s far more interesting than most rock movies. But those trad moments  mean it falls short of greatness.
*In case you’re assuming that like Elvis, the Beaulieus came from one of those parts of the American south where very early marriages where still common, nope – he was from Quebec and she was from Brooklyn.

old man daniel invited me to walk along the river w him & his dogs 😭. it’s a river he tries to go to once a week to take his dogs. i was hiking w my cousin in LA tho so i couldn’t go. hopefully i can go w him next time. when i went hiking w my cousin i tried to look for cool rocks to bring back so i can give them to old man daniel bc he likes cool rocks. he has a yard/lawn full of them he said. the rocks i found tho werent as cool as the ones i found w old man daniel at the beach. oooo you know what would be cool? a rock w his name engraved in it. maybe for christmas. if i still talk to him. that would be so cool. like a cool colorful rock. ooo heck yeah. anyways, old man daniel & i share music w each other, mostly rock. he shared his playlist w me which has like +550 songs in it & it’s just 60s music. he was born in the 60’s but he grew up on 70’s music. he really likes 60s music tho. i haven’t finished listening to his playlist but i made a shorter version of it on spotify w the songs that i liked from that playlist. i called it “old man daniel’s 60s music” yknow i’ve never told him i call him old man daniel. all my friends & my family know him as old man daniel but he doesn’t know i call him that. i think he’d find it a bit humourous. anyways. he wants to hike cloud’s rest. & i wanna hike cloud’s rest. so yknow we could BOTH hike cloud’s rest together. ima bring this up next time. maybe. i fear rejection. what if he’s like nah you can’t handle it. ima be so sad. bc like even he says he needs to prep for it. & i was struggling when i went hiking w my cousin bc that hike was supposed to be like 3 hours & it took us 8 hours 😭 BC OF ME. i need to prep before i tell old man daniel about cloud’s rest. but yknow the other day i was like old man daniel is just some dude. like he’s just some random ass guy. that’s cool but also humbling in a way bc he’s just some guy. not putting him on a pedestal or anything. i don’t think i mentioned my adventure w him downtown on here. so, briefly, i will explain. there was an event downtown where a bunch of bands were performing & there were pop up shops & food trucks & whatnot & we went to it just the two of us. it was fun, the music was great, the food was good & i tried a tepenyaki burrito hybrid thing, i saw one of the teachers i work w (who i adore), & i got a free shirt. well the shirt was actually old man daniel’s bc i told him the band was giving out free shirts so he ran to get one but it was too small for him so i kept it. it’s a fire shirt too. anyways old man daniel loves to learn & gain knowledge & he has an impeccable memory. that’s cool but also like yo i’m trynna be mysterious but now i feel like he knows a lot about me pretty much everything actually bc there’s not a lot to me. so yknow i hope im not just a bother to him but also an adopted grandchild.

The Ledge #561: More Home Plays
Just like last week, this episode is primarily based around what I've been listening to in the Ledge home base over the last few days. Some of it is brand new material. Much of it has been old faves that span almost 60 years of great rock and roll.
Overall, though, this show is primarily a showcase for old and new power pop. In the new category, there are fabulous new tracks by The Whiffs, Sharp Pins, Uni Boys, and The Trouble Seekers, along with "excavated" recordings by The Bings and Popsicko.
As for old faves, it's a history lesson of sorts. There's The Monkees and The Kinks from the 60s. The Jam, The Flamin' Groovies, Nick Lowe, Graham Parker, and The Rubinoos from the 70s. The 80s are represented by the likes of The Barracudas,  Dwight Twilley, The Bongos, and Camper Van Beethoven. Maybe the 90s aren't as highly represented, but there is "Tayter Country" by The Cavedogs, quite possibly my favorite song of 1980.
As for the "52 Weeks of Teenage Kicks", this week's version comes from The Mahones, the legendary Canadian/Irish punk band that always features a quality cover or two on each of their albums. Their version of "Teenage Kicks" is twice represented on their (mostly) live A Great Night On the Lash record. The first version is the final song of their encore, while the tune aired tonight comes from a bonus "Belfast Sessions" tacked on to the end.
Like always, I'm still out here pleading for brand new versions of "Teenage Kicks". Please pass the word on to all of your musician friends. If you have questions, or have a submission, shoot me an email at [email protected]

okay im attempting again to post my
RDR2 Modern AU Music Taste Headcanons
and if this crashes tumblr again i’ll be upset beyond belief
Arthur: Honestly enjoys whatever’s popular at any given time, but has a deep love for country classics. Johnny Cash in regular rotation.
John: 2000′s emo shit, grunge and Vocaloid. probably wanted to look just like Machigerita-P at some point. (ditto, honestly.)
Abigail: 80′s chick music and riotgrrl rock. Very fervent enjoyer of all things Cyndi Lauper, Stevie Nicks and Courtney Love.
Dutch: the most godawful mix of incel indie and RYMcore post-rock. ever wanted to hear a constant rotation of Swans and Weezer?
Hosea: showtunes and comedy music. big fan of Weird Al, Bo Burnham and ESPECIALLY Tom Lehrer. adores the original Cats soundtrack.
Micah: hideously tryhard noise music that he moreso enjoys tormenting others with. this guy will play Whitehouse on any and all first dates.
Charles: his autism is anti-loud noise flavor, so he errs towards ambient chill pop stuff like Animal Collective and Beach House. (the kind of thing i hate sorry charles)
Sadie: any and all country songs about killing or inconveniencing your husband. also Paramore.
Bill: bro-country. got tricked into listening to Ram Ranch once and cried for three hours.
Javier: gives me metalhead vibes but also the only artists I think he really cares about are Gorillaz and Arca and i cant explain why
Lenny: probably enjoys most things. i think he likes late 90′s conscious rap like De La Soul and A Tribe Called Quest a lot tho
Sean: goofy boy rock bands like Tub Ring and The Presidents of the United States mixed in with the most awful 2000′s trash rock that he pirates
Kieran: white gay twink indie like Car Seat Headrest, Cavetown and a little bit of Jack Stauber
Mary-Beth: unironically, movie soundtracks. this the kind of girl who sits around listening to the LotR score like a dork.
Tilly: any and all mainstream 60′s-70′s music no matter how lame or dorky. absolutely adores the really early boy band era of the Beatles.
Karen: rave music, hyperpop, breakcore, basically anything that’d cause a victorian child to explode.
Uncle: his playlist is just a russian roulette game, most of the time you’ll get prog rock and sometimes you’ll get Jimmy Buffett and it’s pretty much a crapshoot.
Grimshaw: mostly likes jazz, is usually too busy to listen to any music and if you asked her her favorite artist she’d shrug and say “leonardo da vinci i guess”
Swanson: enjoys metal and punk, is basically just that one joke that was in every ad for Monsters University. (you know the one)
Strauss: Field recordings of people screaming. nah but fr i dont think he actually gets much out of listening to music. classical maybe. hes old.
Pearson: old-timey folk songs and sea shanties. big fan of The Pogues as well. Javier told him about Scottish pirate metal once... big mistake.
Molly: mid-2010′s tumblrcore girl pop. every argument with Dutch is usually book-ended by relistening to “Cry Baby” or “Norman Fucking Rockwell” again
Jack: fucking baby shark or some shit idk hes four years old
Trelawny: 90′s and 2000′s r&b and pop. this man WILL scam you and then go home and listen to TLC.

Hetalia Characters and Their Music Tastes
I’ve been in the hetalia fandom for like a year now and I stg thinking abt what these bitches listen to NEVER gets old
no warnings
will feature mostly modern day music, like 1950s-2010s
I don’t know a lot of artists that don’t sing in English so there’s probably A LOT that I’m missing on here, not even including shit from like the 1800s
The Allies
Alfred:
Before He Cheats by Carrie Underwood, The Chain by Fleetwood Mac, Crazy In Love by Beyoncé
- Listens to basically everything, but particular fond of like 80s rock and early 2000s shit
- Likes country music bc ofc he does, a huge fan of Carrie Underwood, Sam Hunt, and The Band Perry
- Got his love of rock from England 💀 Especially during the like the 60s-80s when Queen, The Beatles, and Elton John really popular
- They really only bond over their love for this period of music lmao like they would absolutely go ape during karaoke
- He loves more mainstream artists like Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, all those iconic mfs
- Probably enjoys old wartime music just for nostalgias sake. Shit from the 40s and he listens to Civil War tunes (Union Dixie lmao)
- Definitely listens to musicals and forces Ivan to as well. His favorites are Hamilton, Hairspray, and Chess
- LOVES LOVES LOVES The Backstreet Bogs holy shit. This man had a whole phase where he dressed like they did. Don’t even dare play I Want It That Way because he WILL sing along
- Speaking of which he’s actually a really good singer, like he probably used to sing at clubs and shit back in the day
- It’s very specific but I imagine his voice to sound like Taron Egerton’s cover of “Crocodile Rock” by Elton John
Arthur:
Killer Queen by Queen, Set Fire to the Rain by Adele, Tiny Dancer by Elton John
- Old man who had a weird punk phase in the 90s. Definitely listens to The Beatles and Gorillaz
- Like I said, he and Alfred bond over Queen and Elton and Bon Jovi and FUCKING Michael Jackson
- Refuses to admit he really likes Elvis
- Oh boy. He had so much fun in like late 2000s and early 2010s— Panic at the Disco, MCR, Green Day, he absolutely got his ears pierced during this time
- Doesn’t listen to like current mainstream music that much he will sob to Adele and probably really likes the Cry Baby album by Melanie Martinez.
- Francis plays so much Lady Gaga in the car that at this point he really likes her music
- He likes Ed Sheeran I am so sorry </3 and he absolutely gets bullied for it
- He can sing too honestly? I know I just said he listens to Ed Sheeran but I honestly think he kinda sounds like him too just maybe a little deeper
- Listen to Galway Girl and you’ll get a basic idea of what I imagine he sounds like
Ivan:
Dance and Cry by Mother Mother, Baby One More Time by Britney Spears, смерти Больше нет by IC3PEAK
- THIS MANS MUSIC TASTE MAKES NO SENSE. It ranges from fucking Aerosmith to Ic3peak to Lady Gaga
- Literally has every Mother Mother album downloaded and probably on Vinyl bc he’s a fucking dweeb
- Also a huge musical stannie, loves Wicked and Hairspray
- He and Al will split the parts to sing along to in the car
- Alfred made him listen to Britney Spears ONCE in like the 90s and now he’s obsessed
- Speaking of the 90s he went absolutely fucking ape during this time. The USSR wasn’t very big on western music but when it fell there was a HUGE influx of it and suddenly like it was just his favorite thing ever
- Alfred also got him into Carrie Underwood, literally lost of his music taste comes from Alfred forcing him to listen to shit
- During the 70s/80s he got really into Fleetwood Mac and Aerosmith, maybe even a little bit of disco but not a lot
- Went to a club with Al a few times and he won’t ever forget dancing to Footloose by Kenny Loggins at like one in the morning and having the absolute time of his life, easily one of his favorite memories
- Like I get so soft thinking about him just letting loose and actually having fun, even though he was very stiff and shit during the 1900s
- He can’t sing LMAO but my friend and I said once that he could lowkey rap really well and now it’s all I think about
Francis:
From Eden by Hozier, La Vie En Rose by Edith Piaf, Primadona by Marina
- If you look up the gay agenda his playlist would just show up
- I mean seriously he has it all: Lana Del Rey, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, and Lorde
- HOWEVER she does really enjoy softer sounding music. Edith Piaf, Louis Armstrong, and Vera Lynn are favorites of his
- Listens to the Les Mis soundtrack like once a month
- REALLY REALLY loves Hozier, like a whole lot. He’s probably one of his favorite artists along with Sufjan Stevens
- Even more of his homo playlist includes Marina, Madonna and Troye Sivan
- Bullies Arthur for liking Ed Sheeran but he also really likes Ed Sheeran, just refuses to admit it
- Stromae ofc 🙄🤚 can’t just not include like the most popular French musician or whatever
- He can also sing but he sounds kinda raspy, it’s nice tho
Yao:
- I don’t think he listens to music LMAO, if he does it’s probably instrumental
The Axis
Ludwig:
Elastic Heart by Sia, From Now On from The Greatest Showman, Natural by Imagine Dragons
- Also doesn’t really listen to music but my friend said that when he does it ranges from classical to heavy metal
- For some reason I think he really likes Sia, he seems like a Sia kind of guy
- Doesn’t listen to Hozier but really loves Take Me to Church
- Most of his music listening comes from giving Feli the aux in the car
- The whore listens to Imagine Dragons like he fucking loves them
- When The Greatest Showman came out he had the soundtrack on repeat for a solid month, From Now Onis one of his favorite songs ever
- Cannot sing Jesus Christ do not let him near a mic
Feliciano:
Thank u, next by Ariana Grande, Break My Stride by Matthew Wilder, Bella Ciao by Manu Pillas
- Pop music! So much pop!
- Loves Ariana Grande and Conan Gray
- Probably listens to A LOT of classical because of his time with Austria
- His music taste is kinda all over the fucking place and it’s mostly happy and peppy shit
- Weirdly tho he listens to GRLwood? Like it’ll just shhow up on shuffle and suddenly he’s an entire different person
- Will listen to absolutely everything just to find something that Ludwig likes, was so proud of himself when Ludwig really ended up loving The Greatest Showman
- Doesn’t sing but plays like 5 instruments. Violin and piano are his faves
Kiku:
It’s Been So Long by The Living Tombstone, Faded by Alan Walker, Ophelia by The Lumineers
- LISTEN. LISTEN. HE LOVES VIDEO GAME MUSIC AND FUCKING THE LIVING TOMBSTONE
- The fnaf songs are his guilty fucking pleasures, he fucking loves them
- Loves loves loves the Undertake Soundtrack
- Listens to a lot of anime openings 💀 Me too tbh they’re so good at for what
- Big fan of TheFatRat
- In general he enjoys techno shit? Idk what the word is but it’s a lot of instrumental
- Listens to regular music as well (The Lumineers especially)
- Likes listening to Elvis because it makes him happy to see Alfred having fun
- Feli also introduces him to a lot of music but he can never fucking remember the names of the songs or artists
- He hums a lot rather than sings, and it’s really soft and gentle
If anybody wants any more characters lmk bc I love coming up with these, also I do have playlists for these bitches 😎✌️ Spotify is in my linktree (bio)

What the Cullen Kids were listening to in the 80's
I'm fascinated by the Cullens being teenagers in literally every decade. 60-to the present is when the Cullen Kids are fully together for realzies and those are the prime decades for pop culture, which we know the Cullens observe - in nothing more than music.
Since I'm on a late 70's/80's kick recently I've been thinking a lot about what they were listening to then.
My conclusions
Edward: Mainstream/Classic Rock, Pop, Whatever was charting.
Ed Boy is pretty basic, let's be honest. He'll find a few hidden gems, but for the most part I doubt he was straying into the post-punk alt rock sections at the record store. He thought the 80's were "bearable", so my guess is his taste was pretty limited. Edward drives a dad car, so there's no reason he wouldn't listen to dad rock. Probable favs: Huey Lewis and the News, QUEEN, a-ha(?).
Emmett: Hard Rock, Hair Metal, anything he can air guitar to
Man is a deadass hillbilly and bona fide himbo - you know he's going AS LOUD as possible and that means metal. You just know he loved the whole sex, drugs and rock 'n Roll feel and probably spent a good amount of time headbanging too. He points to Rosalie every time he lip-syncs "Looks That Kill" Probable favs: Mötley Crüe, KISS, Guns n Roses, Journey, AC/DC
Rosalie: whatever's on the radio when she's working in the garage, Whatever Emmett's listening to
I don't see rose having any particular interests in music. I think she mostly likes it as background music so she probably didn't have any specific favs and just let Emmett pick the tunes.
Alice: Pop, New Wave, Post-Punk
Maybe it's just her colouring and hair style but I bet the 80's were Alice's fuckin TIME. Of course Alice would have been into all the stereotypical music like Michael Jackson, Prince, Cindy Lauper, but since her whole thing is being ahead of the curve, it makes sense to me that Alice would have listened to all the most experimental stuff too and dipped her toes into the post-punk/goth rock genre a bit. Probable Favs: Duran Duran, The B52s, Billy Idol, New Order
Jasper: New Wave, Goth rock, Post-punk
I see the 60's-80's as Being the height of Jasper's shame years. Regardless of Alice, I'm sure The 70's and 80's were particularly rough since this would be probably when he started to get a handle on things - meaning he'd take making slip-ups that much harder. That being the case, Jasper was listening to all the darkest and most decadently depressed music that the post punk and new wave bands Alice was looking into had to offer. "Black Celebration" is one of my many Depeche Mode Jasper themes - i can't help feeling this is him any time he spends a night alone with Alice after a hard day. Probable favs: Depeche Mode, Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy

I Promised You The Moon rant
Just binged it and this was from the episode by episode reaction/discussion with my partner in crime @glossyboy.
First of all, Oab stole the show, singlehandedly, which he's not supposed to. I don't think anyone expected it including himself. In the very top post when I searched his name on tumblr, he said this lol
Tumblr media
But the truth is he played one hell of "villain" that required a very nuanced performance and he delivered it in a believable and graceful manner. Jai became the catalyst of the entire season and his rather complicated relationship with Teh was the highlight of part 2.
EP 1
From the very beginning it's clear that part 2 is very much a Teh's story rather than a balanced story about two young people's journey as a couple in the next chapter of their lives. It makes me uncomfortable they made Oh-aew clingy and pessimistic without giving him any character development.
The best part is probably the opening scene where they went paper-rock-scissors to decide who's gonna buy condoms. It felt authentic, the expectation, the hesitation, the mischievous act, all fits their characters well. Other times ep 1 was more like two adult kids playing house, literally in an empty giant ass upper middle class apartment.
EP 2
It's great that they poked the femininity vs. masculinity issue through Oh-aew, but stopped right there at the surface. Missed a perfect opportunity to go head-to-head with the controversial topic, start a debate, crush the stigma of femininity, bring something new, be a real game changer of the BL genre, and most importantly give Oh-aew some concrete character development. Part 1 showed us a gay character that's very comfortable with his sexuality and femininity, that's almost revolutionary in Asia, not as a comic relief but a leading role. Oh-aew questioned his own sexual identity once in that bra wearing scene, it's straight out of comfort zone, BOLD, and transgressive. So I expected more from part 2.
That's it? And they're already sophomores? Can't believe Oh-aew's character has been marginalized like this. It's pathetic.
But I love the brutally honest conversation at the end where Teh vented his rage and despair regarding his frustration of acting. He was acting like a dick because he's disappointed, and scared. Teh again was not afraid of showing vulnerability, making the reconciliation very realistic and touching.
EP 3
Dare I say I freaking love ep 3! The unresolved (partially sexual, but not entirely) tension between Teh and Jai was over the roof! And the built-up to their kiss was very authentic, which paled Teh and Oh-aew's much sidelined storyline, including the long anticipated sex scene (still can't believe it happened right after Jai explicitly instructed Teh to do it after the two spent a whole night bonding, like wow! Totally TRANSGRESSIVE and to some extent, kinky.) Teh looked up to the senior, idolized him, wanted to be good for him and make him proud, thirsted for the validation from him, which was mixed with affections. The workshop diary was a brilliant idea to let them open up to each other and eventually bring them close. This was what a meaningful arc of a story looked like. By contrast, there isn't a single moment between Oh-aew and Teh in part 2 that made me go "Damn it's soooooo hot!"
I know Jai/Teh wasn't the endgame but I appreciate the storyline so much. It's a very bold move considering it broke the over-glorified "one true love in one's life" fantasy of its target audience, mostly young cis women. The popular narrative of "you can only love one person through your life/one true love" in romance fictions/chick flicks was totally smashed. And it wasn't written just to stir up things between Teh and Oh-aew, it wasn't a silly fling. Instead, it's meaningful, complicated, natural, and realistic, delivered by nuanced and excellent acting from two young actors. It's hilarious that fans hate Jai with a passion and call him names.
And big news, Jai is bi?! Bravo! He's radiating bi vibes since his first appearance.
I kind of gave up at this point, the season wouldn't do Oh-aew any justice. Like my partner in crime pointed out, the costume design literally threw some "incongruous female fashion pieces" on Oh-aew, made him dye his hair red, without...making any actual point of his personality or his character development. Wardrobe was supposed to make a point in storytelling. Yes, PP wearing pink is cute, and? There's nothing else for Oh-aew. Unfortunately he's reduced to this sulky, crying, and wronged partner in a failing relationship.
EP 4
Oab again was killing it. The tension between Jai and Teh...from the rehearsal in front of Oh-aew to the dressing room pep talk, was incredibly intense and hot AF.
Was it a manipulative relationship after all? Oab was so good at conveying a character with many faces. Jai's a mentor to Teh, also a good friend, their relationship was genuine. He's also ambitious with his own goals, he used, challenged, provoked Teh in a way that benefited them both. It made sense the title of part 2, I Promised You The Moon, was from Jai's script. He promised Teh what the junior wanted the most, a bright future in acting. Teh's unconventional and unspoken feelings for Jai was the best part of the entire season in terms of creative writing, it's complicated, fragile, delicate and completely heartbreaking.
The after talk in the hallway was so well-written. It's funny (Teh joking about playwrights always write about their EXs is gold), intimate yet meticulously controlled, no one lashed out or wept. Both knew what they signed up for and Jai particularly made it clear about his motive and the purpose of the "special workshop" beforehand (or right away.) Yet it's no one's fault that Teh got carried away. He's younger, he's immature, he's more into it, it's totally natural. It's so romantic when Teh's singing karaoke in the bar with Oh-aew, yet he couldn't help but desperately staring at Jai on the floor, knowing he and the man who just turned him down were never gonna happen, they were done, but he's still madly attracted to him and his talent. He fancied Jai, at least the idea of Jai, a playwright, a director, someone knew him better than himself. That hurt beautifully.
EP 5
Teh/Oh-aew endgame at this point was pretty meaningless. Oh-aew as a leading character never got any solid character development over a span of four years. What happened between Jai and Teh wasn't just "cheating", though they surely made it look that way, like Teh's empty promise of "I won't see him again after the show ends". No matter how Oh-aew and Teh eventually reconciled, there's no emotional connection, no sparkle anymore between the couple.
But I knew for a fact they had to. Otherwise it's too much of a risk financially for the series. The creators had to take the easy way out like most traditional romances—one of the most contrived and formulaic trope where the male leading character made a mistake (usually cheating) and realized he's wrong, he deeply hurt the female leading character (Oh-aew was merely a girl substitute in part 2), then he completely changed for hell knew what reasons, started doing every nicest thing in the world to try to "win" the female character back. It has been feeding the emotionally-deprived cis female readers/audience who are frustrated with heterosexual relationship irl for decades. The formula that made romance outsell other genres of fictions combined in the 60s and 70s still sells today, under the name of boys' love. It's pathetic to see Oh-aew confess to Bas that he always "lost" to Teh. Love shouldn't be some kind of game or competition, there isn't winner or loser in love. Love is spontaneous. Oh-aew didn't lose because Teh developed feelings for someone else, and he didn't win when Teh begged him for reconciliation. People change, people move on.
And as predicted, they went for it. The ending was so absurd and tedious.
Overall, Jai's probably the hardest villain to play, he needed to be REALLY GOOD to be "the bad guy", to make his role conceivable. Oab absolutely nailed it with his talent and experience. He's not even my type or extremely good looking yet I'm 100% SOLD. I immediately re-watched the scene of him kissing Teh back hungrily at the end of ep 3 like I used to re-watch Teh/Oh-aew's steamy make out session at the end of episode 3 part 1. Coincidence?
I like some parts of both seasons for the same reason, each challenged and tried to break some outdated/contrived narratives in the BL genre. Part 1 took on the sexuality taboo by showing two same sex characters sexually attracted to each other, no more "I'm not into boys, I just happened to fall for someone of the same gender" or "pure love" bullshit. By staying true to the characters' sexuality and actually showing it with explicit, intense (and beautifully shot) scenes, the gay characters were normalized. They weren't just pure and innocent, no one was. And it created two of most unconventional gay characters in Asian pop culture, Oh-aew, a beautiful boy who's very comfortable with his own sexuality and femininity, not passive at all, taking initiative to pursue what he wanted; and Teh, a sensitive, caring and vulnerable boy who cried a lot, he's confused but also sweet and brave.
Part 2 tackled the "You can only love one person through your life" trope with a very nuanced story of "cheating". Yet neither carried out what they started. Part 1 fell short of a revolutionary piece that stayed true to "adolescent sexual turmoil", dismissing bisexuality and becoming a typical unrealistic BL fantasy in the end. And Part 2, ugh, forced a "happy ending" that almost no one digs. I understand it's extremely difficult and risky to disrupt the established norms of a genre. But sometimes being transgressive and progressive could be the same thing. A story, an artwork, has to challenge something in order to create something new and compelling.
