Global Action Needed to Ensure Education for More Than 120 Million Girls
Tumblr media
UN Deputy Secretary-General Acknowledges Malala's Impact
Nobel laureate and UN Messenger of Peace Malala Yousafzai, on her 26th birthday, delivered a powerful address in Abuja, Nigeria, emphasizing the urgent need for increased efforts to provide education to more than 120 million girls worldwide.
A Landmark Anniversary Speech
Malala's Journey from Activism to Advocacy Exactly a decade after her groundbreaking 'Malala Day' speech at the UN Headquarters in New York, where she called for global action against illiteracy, poverty, and terrorism, the Pakistani education advocate, who survived a Taliban attack, shared her unwavering commitment to advocating for girls' education.
UN Deputy Secretary-General Praises Malala's Impact
A Global Vision for Tolerance and Equality Introducing Malala Yousafzai, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed acknowledged her ability to transcend borders, cultures, and generations, while highlighting the universal resonance of her message and passion. Mohammed emphasized that both the UN and Malala understand that quality education for both girls and boys is not merely a dream but a fundamental human right.

Malala's Call for Action
Empowering Girls Through Education Over the years since her UN speech, Malala has completed her high school and university education, traveled extensively to over 30 countries, and established the Malala Fund, which aims to remove barriers to girls' education. She spoke passionately about her efforts to draw attention to the plight of the nearly 120 million girls denied education due to factors such as poverty, patriarchy, climate, and conflict. Her commitment was further demonstrated through visits to various countries, where she met with local girls, including refugees, indigenous communities, and activists.
Celebrating Victories, Acknowledging Challenges
The Journey Towards Gender Equality While celebrating the achievements of girls who have overcome obstacles to earn university degrees and enter the workforce, Malala emphasized that progress remains insufficient. She called for continued efforts to address the challenges faced by millions of girls worldwide, acknowledging that governments, communities, and families still hold many young women back from achieving their full potential.
The Struggle for Change
A Global Crisis for Girls' Education Malala highlighted the global initiatives aimed at enhancing education and gender equality to meet the Sustainable Development Goal of quality education for all by 2030. However, she also stressed that these accomplishments cannot overshadow the stark reality faced by hundreds of millions of girls, exacerbated by the fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic. She specifically pointed out the situation in Afghanistan, where women and girls are now banned from pursuing an education, highlighting the alarming reversal of progress.
Building a Collective Future
The Power of Education and Gender Equality Reflecting on her famous UN speech, Malala acknowledged the limitations of individual efforts in changing the world but emphasized that change can begin with one person. She called for collaborative action to ensure all children have access to 12 years of quality education, holding leaders accountable for their commitments to gender equality and education. Malala also stressed the need to address deep-rooted patriarchal norms that hinder girls' progress, stating that breaking free from cultural and religious misogyny would address many challenges faced by girls.
Hope for the Future
Empowering Girls to Lead the Way Malala expressed her belief in the potential of young girls as future leaders. She highlighted their understanding of the transformative power of education and their commitment to opening the school gates for every child. She urged the global community to support their determination, provide the necessary funding, and follow their lead, assuring progress in the next decade.
A Visit Focused on Education
Deputy Secretary-General's Trip to Borno State As part of the visit, UN Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed accompanied Malala and her father, Ziauddin Yousafzai, on a trip to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno State. They visited three schools dedicated to providing quality education to girls affected by violence, underscoring the significance of their commitment to empowering girls through education.
Next Steps for the UN
Following her visit to Nigeria, Deputy Secretary-General Amina Mohammed will travel to Brussels to participate in UN-European Union meetings alongside the Secretary-General, continuing discussions on key global issues.   Sources: THX News & United Nations. Read the full article

sebastianvettel »On the occasion of the International Women’s Day 2023, here is a retrospect of a karting event that took place on December 2, 2021 before the F1 Grand Prix in Jeddah/Saudi Arabia, in which eight young women participated. I was very pleased to meet these young women who come from a wide variety of backgrounds and brought different experiences with them into karting. They all impressed me.«
🌹🌹🌹Based on this event, the #Race4Women t-shirt was created. With the proceeds from its sale we support the @malalafund, which works for a world where every girl has access to quality education and can aspire to taking on leadership roles.

elliegoulding: First I want to acknowledge the shock, grief, fear and heartbreak many of you will be feeling following the catastrophic events of the last few days. The world may be feeling pretty terrifying right now.
This morning reminded me that while there are advocates of human rights and dignity, there is always hope. I feel very fortunate that I got to spend part of #internationaldayofthegirl with the incredible @malala who I adore!
Thank you @ caringfamilyfoundation @ malafund for hosting #girlhoodUnfiltered
It’s a decade since Malala’s groundbreaking address at the UN Youth Assembly ‘One child, one teacher, one pen and one book can change the world'. She would deny it because she is extremely humble but she HAS changed the world, continuously campaigning for every girls’ right to 12 years of free, safe, quality education. Last year @ malalafund reached 21 million students.
Still 120 million girls are out of school today, denied their human right to an education. Malala and fellow groundbreaking advocates work every minute of every day to correct this. I want them to know they have an ally in me, always and forever.
Alongside Malala I got to listen to @ nelufar.h @ aaliyamalik_to @ nilavarman @ the_nila_extract and Dr @ ayeesha.Kareemm. These are young women with a profound purpose and deep understand of how to make positive change. In the darkest of times, they give me hope.

I Am Stronger Than Fear
There are two powers in the world; one is the sword and one is the pen.
-Malala Yousafzai
Malala Yousafzai, the remarkable Pakistani Female Educational Rights Activist, has left an ineradicable mark on the world. Honored as the youngest Nobel Prize Laureate at the age of 17, she stands as a beacon of inspiration for the global community. Hailing from Pakistan, she became the first Pashtun and the second Pakistani ever to receive the prestigious Nobel Prize. Her unwavering determination to secure quality education for every child, regardless of their gender, has solidified her legacy as a true advocate for change.
During the Taliban’s brutal takeover of Swat District in Pakistan, an oppressive ban was imposed on girls attending school. Shocked and enraged at this repressive action, Malala seized the opportunity to address the injustice. Unyielding in her conviction, she vehemently questioned the audacity of the Taliban, daring to strip away the fundamental right to education from her and countless others. Within the walls of the prestigious Peshawar Press Club, Malala fearlessly delivered a captivating speech, standing as a beacon of hope and defiance in the face of adversity.
With unwavering courage, she fearlessly voiced her opinions, thereby becoming a target for the extremists. In a fateful turn of events in October 2012, as she journeyed home from an exam, a masked man boarded her bus and asked, “Who is Malala?” Once he located her, she shot her on the left side of her head.
Malala’s attempted assassination sparked a wave of global outrage. As she regained consciousness after ten days in Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, UK, the medical team shared with her the shocking details of the attack, while also informing her that people from every corner of the globe were fervently praying for her swift recovery.
Malala’s journey of triumph over adversity, undergoing numerous surgeries and persevering through a tough recovery, propelled her to the forefront of activism. A driving force for change, she co-founded the esteemed non-profit organization, Malala Fund, alongside Shiza Shahid. The Malala Fund is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting girls’ education and empowering young girls to reach their full potential. Through the fund, she has supported initiatives in Pakistan, Nigeria, Jordan, and other countries, ensuring that girls have access to quality education.
Malala’s incredible journey continues to inspire countless individuals to stand up for what they believe in, challenge the status quo, and fight for equality and education for all. Her resilience in the face of adversity is a testament to the power of one person to create change, and her unwavering determination serves as a beacon of hope for a better and more inclusive world.

Activist Malala Yousafzai posted on instagram a few hours ago about her recent trip to Brazil a month ago for encouraging improvements for school education and experiences.
With the following:
“ I am often asked how I stay motivated in my fight for girls’ education. Last month’s trip to Brazil is the perfect answer. I spent nearly a week travelling throughout this beautiful country, hearing from girls who are determined to learn and the education advocates who are helping them realise their dreams.
In Recife, Black, Indigenous and quilombola girls told me about their efforts to improve learning in their communities, like Gabrielle whose Facebook post about how her school wasn’t providing meals or water caught the eye of the local education secretary, who was able to fix the issue.
At a school in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, girls shared stories of overcoming harassment and abuse and how participating in training programs from @MalalaFund partners helped them to find confidence to speak out about the problems they faced.Deyvilla told me how she learned how policy works: “We made demands about how to improve things in our communities”.
She also thank other organisations promoting increase in girls education, inclusivity, safety, and funds in Brazil and how much more they will be able to achieve.Like the Centro de Cultura Luiz Freire, Anaí, Blogueiras Negras, Centro das Mulheres do Cabo, Coletivo Mangueiras, and Grupo Curumim.
She ended her post with:
“ I left Brazil feeling energised. These meetings remind me that there are so many people in every corner of this world with the same mission: to create a world where every girl can learn and lead. When we are united in our fight, we will accomplish amazing things for girls everywhere. Until next time, obrigada por tudo🇧🇷”.
Matter of fact this isn’t also the first time Malala visited Brazil as she visited five years ago on her birthday.
