Shay's 2023 Tarot Purchase Round-Up

Unfortunately, I don't have time for a huge review post this year, but here are my top 10 favorite tarot decks that I purchased this year!

10. Dreams Within Dreams Tarot

- This was a Kickstarter I backed last year. The art is beautiful and the artist stated that they were inspired by their favorite anime growing up in the late 90s and early 2000s. The only reason this deck isn't higher on the list is because I found that the whiplash between some cards being fan art and some being original art was too much for me to really connect with it.

9. Stars Lighting Up the Night Tarot

- This deck came out of nowhere and instantly became a favorite. I love the night scenes and the multiple versions of some cards so you can customize the deck. It also has the linen card texture I love! I purchased the limited edition version just to get that texture!

8. Titanic Tarot: Risen Spirits (Titanic Tarot 2nd Edition)

- This version massively improves on the first (which I already loved) by removing the borders and including updated art for the pip cards that better represents the full story of the passengers of the Titanic, including before the voyage and after.

7. Sleepwalker Tarot

- I ended up getting the mini because it was all that was left, but I wish I had the full size. The art is so beautiful and Iove how calming the subjects are with their eyes closed. Also, I found the full size and will definitely be purchasing!

6. Witch Sister Tarot

- I waited TWO YEARS for this tarot and the art alone was worth it. I love the artist's previous deck, and stumbled on some of the art for this one on Etsy while looking for devotional items for selkie and for the Cailleach. It's finally out! The only downside is that it's a Llewellyn deck and has their usual thin cardstock.

5. Shadowscape Tarot

- An oldie but a goodie. I finally got this after a few years of eyeing it, and it's definitely a great choice for being a mass market deck. Stephanie Pui-Mun Law's art is beautiful. Reminds me of old Amy Brown paintings, but far better executed.

4. Starspinner Tarot

- I ADORE the art for this deck. It reminds me somewhat of CLAMP art. The art is also inclusive and bright and the deck has four different lovers cards so you can have whatever flavor you wish! This one is also mass market but great quality.

3. Cozy Witch Tarot

- Of course I expected this deck to be cozy, but I was surprised with just how much I like the whole package. The card subjects are diverse not only in skin color, but in body type as well, which really stood out and made this deck one that I came back to often. The only downside is that the cards are slightly larger than standard size, so they can be difficult to handle at times.

2. Monsoon Tarot

- This deck honestly has the most beautiful art of any deck I own. I'm always discovering new details in the cards and they range from cozy to dreamlike to grotesque in all the right ways. The cardstock also has that linen/playing card texture over them which makes shuffling a breeze. I use this less to read and more to just wander through and look at.

1. Spirit Keeper Tarot

This one is hard to get a hold of, but so worth it. I happened to check in while the author still had some of the current edition left in stock after pre-orders on her website and managed to snag one. I LOVE working with this deck. The art is great, but the companion book is really what makes this deck incredible. The book goes over a lot of the inspiration behind each card and the symbolism. The author is of Chinese descent, so she has tied both western and eastern concepts to each card, which she lays out in the book. This has been the main deck I have read with since I got it. S tier deck.

ORIGIN:

Aljari was born and raised in Baldur’s Gate, living with his mother and father as they ran a small general store near the docks of the lower city. His mother a hardworking woman and his father a wizard that’s curiosity and love for magic could not be sated. Even with a wife, son and shop to run he could not let go of his affinity for the arcane. He would go on quests for months on end to find books, artifacts, knowledge from others. All of this he shared with Aljari kick starting his sons equally insatiable hunger for knowledge and magical know-how. As the years went on, into Aljari teen-hood his parents argued and fought and his father would be gone longer, his mother would become drunker and his family would drift further. Once after declaring he was leaving again and on the search for an ancient necromantic artifact he left the small house and never returned. Aljari’s mother fed up with him and all things magic could only frown, sob and complain at her sons shared love for the art. As Aljari’s magical power grew his mother’s distaste and fear of the skills. The arguments became more and more frequent between them, She wished her one and only son would focus on his future, on running the family business, on starting his own family but no. He just had to run around playing with wands and robes.

Aljari told her himself that his love for magic and wizardry surpassed his love for her and if he must choose between the art and his home life then his mind had been made up long ago. At the age of twenty he leaves home for the final time and begins his life as an adventurer. Life is not easy for him. A young man who’s so accustomed to the privileges of such a bustling city would not survive out in the world on his own, this is true usually but somehow, with his wit and intellect- as well as his proficiency with most hand weapons, he lives. He thieves, he earns and he prospers until one strange day…he wakes up in a mind flayer’s ship.

 Nouveau Karty

This work is for me to practice the art of nouveau. This semester the features I’m working on are several Nouveau pieces, these cards are meant to enhance the work I already have. I have often been told you need to have work you can tell is by the same artist. I have mostly one-off assignments that look nice by themselves, but I have been longing for artwork I can display as a whole. Le Style Mucha calls me. I enjoy its objective beauty, the time and work, the classical mixture of wild nature and man-made geometry, and the serenity of the landscapes. This work is for the elevation of my portfolio, the enjoyment of the layman, and to challenge me on how much work I can do with a set of (aesthetic) restrictions. On display in a show, they will be placed in a clear binder so one can flip through the pages, but in their natural state, the work will be placed in a specially designed box, painted in the same fashion as the cards. The work is meant to be a coffee table item, simple, garnering attention for a little, and then passed to the next person. There is room for higher production, whether it be Callender pictures, tile-matching games for children, or greeting cards for these designs. The work is meant to be easily commercialized if I were to begin selling my work. Think of this in the same vein that Leonardo kept the Mona Lisa at hand. Phone cases, laptop stickers, tapestries to hang- something quick for me to grab when someone asks “What do you do? Art? Are you any good?” now instead of rolling my eyes because the answer is yes, but you won’t have any context for the work, I can pull out this set and receive an “Oh! Nice, old timey, I think I saw that in a museum once, would you make me a painting?”. And while the answer to that will be “No, I won’t paint your hairless cat I don’t care how much you plan on underpaying me” I can point to this set of work, and say “I’m glad you like it, here’s the fixed price.”

The Nouveau Karty project is a collection of 20-56 watercolor scenes inspired from Art Nouveau lithographs and 19th-century Japanese landscape paintings. They’ll be stored in a cardboard box decorated in the same fashion with classic Le Style Mucha branding. They are meant to be coffee table trinkets, items that spark pleasantry and aesthetic unity amongst themselves. Each card is meant to be stared at, a standstill works on its own but highlights and accentuates itself and its surrounding works. A deck of cards, with the number side replaced with Art Nouveau scenes and graphics. It will come in a painted box, also featuring Nouveau graphics. Anywhere from 20- 56 trading cards and their designed box will be produced, depending on the intricacy of the design, and the amount of lamination materials available to me.

USE OF: Watercolor paper Watercolors Scissors Playing cards Possibly a laminator Card Sleeves glue 2-5 cards will be produced each Wednesday until the project is due, the first week being spent making 60 thumbnails for references. The last week will be spent organizing and putting protection on cards.

REFERENCING: Alphonse Mucha- Mucha Foundation and Masterworks book Hayao Miyazaki- My Neighbor Hayao book Hiroshi Yoshida Dream Scapes - Stephanie Pui Mun Law, book The main goal besides visual pleasure would be to mass produce a complete set of work in a short time. Successful portfolios have art you can tell are from the same person. I do not have a complete body of work and to immediately soot myself into a higher art status, a portfolio I can share with peers and employers. Each part of the work will share a piece of belonging with the others. Many people in contemporary art make art for the sake of controversy but forget that art is also for aesthetic purposes. This is meant to be strictly pleasing. Art devoid of message, or propaganda, no theory or purpose besides simply enjoyment. These works could be mass-produced, a feeling of something nice to have, handmade and special. Each scene should make the viewer think “That’s nice, I wish there was a real place that looked like this/ had these colors/ were actually this ornate”, This should be a scene intellectually accessible to most people, in or outside of the art world. People who understand the work would understand the technical process and appreciate the uniformity but also its uniqueness- ( a goal of mine to balance the two) - while anyone passing by would admire its beauty.

He took the spunky young fish monster’s attempts at ‘helping’ him beat up bad guys with humor. In the main verse, he’s more of a kooky uncle to Undyne than a mentor who’s not afraid to put her in check if her antics go too far.

King Asgore Dreemurr, King of All Monsters:

Asgore silently suffers from depression by the loss of his two children, the deadly choice he made that lead to the dissolution of his marriage, and the blood on his hands from murdering humans for their SOULs. But as a young girl, Undyne was swept up by the glorious image of the Monster King becoming a god and freeing his people from their underground prison. After Asgore accepted Undyne as his trainee, he became impressed by the young monster’s strength and persistence. His relationship developed into something of a father figure to the orphaned fish.

In the main verse, Asgore becomes concerned with the increasingly irrational choices Undyne makes. She defies his attempts to help her, thinking it was an affront to her abilities and a sign of his lack of confidence in her. Since then, Undyne alternates between living in Waterfall and Asgore’s castle.

“Pops” (below) is a police officer. He’s spirited, aggressively helpful, and can be seen driving around town in what his daughter calls “the most badass motorcycle EVER!!!” Undyne wants to follow his footsteps in her future career.

Fun fact: that isn’t hair on his head. It’s a flat red fin that flares out when he’s underwater.

“Dad” (above) is an owner of a start-up local hardware store. The most mild-mannered of the family and foil to his husband’s energy... until you bring up his life’s biggest passion: DIY projects and repairs! He prides himself for making all the furniture in his family’s new home.

Fun fact: He befriends Asgore as a fellow business owner.

Drulah is Undyne’s kid brother. Being born deaf, he has limited speaking abilities and instead uses sign language to express himself. He attends Ms. Toriel’s class with extra assistance. Much to his big sister’s chagrin, he throws a tantrum whenever he feels like he’s being misunderstood or ignored.

My Ragnarok Online Hunter/Sniper/Ranger, Tyr Aldsvider - A prodigy of kyudo-style archery, known for being very quiet, sensitive and mostly solitary.  Annnnd also for having PTSD and severe social anxiety due to having served time in the military.  I enjoyed him because gave me the opportunity to write without filtering my personal thought processes and rationalizations, since we shared a lot of the same issues.

My Ragnarok Online Monk/Champion/Sura, Tristan Sky’s-Shadow (he actually started as a tabletop RPG character, but he made the jump to RO when his campaign ended.)  He was a martial artist (and werewolf) with an older brother sort of personality. I like to think he represented a lot of what I wanted to be - a guardian who was brave, independent, kind, and at absolute peace with himself.

Fal, of course.  He’s taught me a lot - see answer below.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO TAKE ON THIS MUSE:

I tend to write characters that are similar to me, so I just wanted to go outside of my comfort zone for a change. I‘m timid, quiet, emotionally reserved and a “meh“ asexual in real life, and so I took on a character who was irreverent, loud, expressive and a “hell yeah!” pansexual. He’s been an a blast and absolutely has dragged me out of my comfort zone. Although, at this point I’ve sort of shot myself in the foot because I’ve just been writing what I wanted to write and not what made for a good story. I love to write descriptions, intimate conversations, inner monologues and little crystallized moments in time, but I can only do so many of those before I have to thread them together with some kind of plot continuity… I’m in that stage now.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVOURITE ASPECTS OF YOUR CURRENT MUSE:

His passion and his fearlessness. He feels everything very deeply, and LETS himself feel everything very deeply.  He‘s an uninhibited free spirit who expresses his feelings via songs and music and stories, regardless of what other people think.  He’s also a charmer and an optimist, who, despite his own deep-seated feelings of sadness and regret, does whatever he can to brighten the world around him.

WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST INSPIRATION WHEN IT COMES TO WRITING:

If I knew, I’d actually have become a professional writer like I wanted, hahaffff. Its almost completely random.  Maybe music?

FAVOURITE TYPES OF THREADS:

I like those threads that have a solid storyline/plot, but end up being memorable mostly for the interplay of the characters involved.  I love watching friendships blossom, and I love watching characters help to process each other’s traumas and learn about each other’s unique quirks against a backdrop of adversity.

Sometimes they seem to pull the Notebook and pen out of nowhere and just start writing in a chaotic moment or in a situation where they shouldn’t physically have access to it.

Zoro: Shit, how are we going to get out of this?

(Name): ‘The waves crashed below as the two pirates contemplated on what to do, the sea creatures below thrashed in the water as if excited to fight over a new meal, and-’

Zoro: Wait a minute-are you writing?!

(Name): … No.

Zoro: HOW?!

Nami taught them a few tricks on lock-picking and stuff related to it just so they could write about it, it comes in handy since they get kidnapped/captured a lot by small time pirates, thugs, and the navy at one point

(Name): Some assholes decided to grab me in an ally and tie me up. Apparently they wanted to send you guys a ransom. Nothing too big.

They scurry around the Sunny following Luffy because he’s the most chaotic mess out of everyone and they NEED CONTENT*

*AKA Luffy is a big source of inspiration with all the antics he gets into

(Name) gets lost easily when writing, so they are often in the “Oh Shit They’re Lost Again!” Club with Zoro*

*Sanji despises this with a BURNING PASSION, but at least (Name) has a sense of direction… Kinda.

(Name) isn’t really a fighter, but raises HELL with daggers and can turn any pencil into a Mrs./Mr. Stabby Stabby

General Relationships

Franky usually goes to them for ideas when he gets stuck on what to make next, Usopp does this too

Robin and (Name) are book buddies, they read a wide range of genres, from Fiction and NonFiction to just random diaries they find on the ground, they’ll even read encyclopedias about any subject and discuss them out in the open

Sometimes the subjects are a bit… NSFW. So they are very very VERY VERY careful not to discuss those things around the boys. ESPECIALLY NOT AROUND SANJI.*

*Chopper made sure to stress this after last time, can’t argue against the doctor’s orders

Chopper has lent a few medical books to the two for (Name)’s research, as since (Name) is a writer they need a lot of resources so their writing is in tip top shape

If Brook is writing a new song and needs a little help with the lyrics, he often asks for poems written by (Name) to help

Jimbe and (Name) are also pretty cool with each other too, as Jimbe has experienced a lot of things and knows a bit about a few different cultures of various islands. They also have pretty in depth conversations about war and peace, which most of the Crew finds a bit difficult to follow at times

Jimbe also teaches (Name) how to defend themselves, Zoro and Sanji help them too by teaching them a few moves, but Jimbe is (Name)’s main teacher

Chopper and (Name) don’t see each other too often in the Medical Ward, but they do see each other on the deck a lot when Chopper is hanging/playing with Luffy.

Chopper will sometimes take a break from playing around and just sit next to (Name). He’ll ask a few questions about what they are writing and if they need any more books to read

Usopp and (Name) often do makeshift Arts and Crafts, with Chopper, Brook, and Robin joining in every now and then. Luffy also joins in too at times, this is one of the few moments the crew can get him to sit still

When (Name) is tired or overwhelmed they often hang out with Zoro, Robin is their second choice, Sanji is their third

Zoro is their chill out with person/nap buddy, the two get along pretty well in this respect, as nothing beats a good nap

Robin is great for some silent time as well, as she is a bit more understanding about wanting quiet time, but also not wanting to be alone

Sanji is usually willing to make a small snack for (Name) to nibble on, especially if they are anxious, silence between the two is always pleasant, especially if Sanji is cooking something that smells really good!

As mentioned earlier, Luffy’s antics provide a lot of inspiration for (Name)’s writing, but Luffy also likes dragging (Name) everywhere* to see what ideas they come up with, therefore, they are pretty close!

*This also helps to remind (Name) to live in the moment every now and then, so they welcome it, besides, Franky designed them a Luffy Antic Proof waist bag for their writing tools and journals, something they desperately needed.

(Name) stores things in Brook’s Skull that they don’t want Luffy finding

Exploring

Zoro is (Name)’s favorite exploration partner when they have nothing they want to see on an island, he finds the weirdest places when he gets lost!

Sanji and Nami are (Name)’s go to people when they want to explore a town’s marketplace

Robin is (Name)’s go to person when they want to explore old places like ruins or abandoned areas

Usopp and Franky are the people (Name) goes to when they want to explore the general town area, they are usually pulled every which way by the children, who always seem to want to show the two men around

Online, I have no guilty pleasures. I am proud to be me, and like what I like. In real life... Almost everthing I like is a guilty pleasure. I don’t show my art taste to my family, I don’t play my music for them, I seldom tell them what the books I read are about, I would NEVER tell them I watch Botched - a show about plastic surgery. I’d NEVER admit to them that I listen to kpop. My family are.....kinda snobbish. I come from a family that’s full of professional musicians, some of them metal and rock, most of them classical. I’m a classically trained pianist and singer myself. I’ve grown up having pop music and pop stars made fun of in my home.  I’m confident in many things, but when it comes to telling my family that “yeah, I DO like pop music, actually!” that’s just....that’s not gonna happen. Coming out as a lesbian was easier. They’re cultural elitists.

T H E B A S I C S Given Name: Seong Ki-mun Nicknames: He briefly went by the name Kyle in middle school because he was tired of people teasing him about his “weird” name. But by the time he got to high school he didn’t care anymore and was back to going by his real name. (He also started purposely mispronouncing the names of anyone who made fun of his name– think A-a-ron.) Age: 30 Birthday: November 23rd Zodiac Sign: Sagittarius Birthplace: Anaheim, California Current Location: NYC, New York Speaks: English, Korean (fluently, but his family teases him about his “American accent” all the time) Dominant Hand: Right Education: He got his Associates Degree from LaGuardia Community College, then transferred to NYU and got his Bachelors in Arts & Sciences. He cheerfully refers to college as the most money he’s ever wasted in his life. Occupation: Teaching Assistant in the English department at CUNY Hunter College. H E A L T H Physical Health: Not bad. Ki-mun was born HIV positive, but has been taking antiretroviral medications since he was a kid. At this point, his viral load is basically non-existent and he is considered to be in remission, with a very good prognosis. Because of the medication he takes, his immune system is not the best, and he is much more susceptible to getting sick as a result. During cold and flu season, Ki-mun will often wear a mask when he’s out in public– his aunt and uncle ingrained that habit in him from a young age (and also wore masks themselves so he wouldn’t feel like the odd one out). Physical Abilities/Limitations: He’s decent at almost anything to do with art, but is especially good at drawing with charcoal. He also likes doing speed-sketches, figure sketches, etc. He is also weirdly good at baseball, and plays on the New York City Metro Baseball Team as part of the NY Blacksox during the season (June through August). Also, he is great at tossing food directly into people’s mouths– popcorn, M&Ms, etc. He hardly ever misses. Addictions: Definitely caffeine, but no serious addictions. Allergies: He gets a mild rash when he eats or touches strawberries. Mental Health: It’s not horrible? It’s not great, but not horrible. As much as he denies it, Ki-mun is pretty lonely, partly because he has such a hard time letting anyone in. He’s not the most trusting person, and tends to keep people at arms’ length until he’s sure they can be trusted. At the moment, he only has one person in his life that he would actually consider a friend. Everyone else is just an acquaintance to him. Ki-mun has sort of “accepted” the idea that he may end up being alone forever, even though that’s not really what he wants.

H I S T O R Y Summary: Ki-mun was born in Anaheim, California, and got off to a pretty rough start. His mother had AIDS, and unfortunately, it was passed on to Ki-mun. He was fine and had no symptoms for a few months, but eventually began to get sick, though thanks to swift treatment, he recovered quickly and the HIV never progressed. As Ki-mun got older, his mother’s health began to deteriorate, until finally they moved in with Ki-mun’s aunt and uncle so they could help take care of her. She eventually was bedridden and had to stay in the hospital full time. One of Ki-mun’s earliest memories is of visiting his mother in the hospital for the last time, which is absolutely one of his worst memories. After his mother passed away, Ki-mun’s aunt and uncle took him in and raised him as one of their own children. They love him like crazy and were amazing parents to him, and Ki-mun has always been grateful to them– not only for raising him, but for loving him as much as they love their actual children and never making him feel like he mattered less. He had a relatively happy childhood in spite of everything. After high school, Ki-mun decided to move to New York– he wanted a change of pace, and wanted a chance to start over and reinvent himself. He found a job and began taking classes at the community college, managed to get his associate’s degree after a year and a half, and transferred to NYU to get his Bachelors. Ki-mun was a very dedicated student and didn’t spend a lot of time getting to know any of his fellow classmates, going to parties, making friends, etc. Still, he ended up being roped into a friend/study group, which is where he ended up meeting Spencer. Spencer was the first person that Ki-mun had serious feelings for. They were friends for the better part of two years, each attracted to the other but both too nervous to say anything. Finally, a week before graduation, Ki-mun got up the courage to confess how he felt, and they became an official couple for all of one day. Unfortunately, once Ki-mun explained to Spencer about his diagnosis, Spencer flew off the handle and accused Ki-mun of being deceptive, being a liar, being manipulative, etc. He told Ki-mun he was disgusting and to never contact him again, and that was that. Shortly after Ki-mun’s heart was smashed to pieces, he packed up everything he owned and moved to a new area of the city, wanting to put at least a little bit of distance between himself and his old friend group. It was here that he met Andi and became close friends with her, and also found a job at CUNY Hunter College. Although Ki-mun feels that his life is generally good and happy– he enjoys his job, has a really good friend and coworkers he likes, he has gotten really into his poetry lately and has been reading it at open mic nights– he can’t help but feel that something is missing from his life. Job History: He worked in his aunt and uncle’s restaurant from ages fifteen to eighteen. When he moved to New York, he did a little bit of job hopping before finally settling on a job at a grocery store– he stayed at that job until he graduated from college and took his job at CUNY Hunter. Fondest Memories: Despite the fact that his childhood was pretty rough at times, Ki-mun has a lot of great memories as well. Family trips to Korea, various birthdays, his graduation day. He also has fond memories of his job at the grocery store– as much as he didn’t enjoy the work, he really liked his coworkers. Plus, all the various spur-of-the-moment adventures Andi has dragged him into. Worst Experiences: His mother dying when he was four years old. Finally getting to be with the person he’d been hung up on for two years, only to be broken up with after less than a day.

C O M M U N I C A T I O N Speech Pace/Style: Sarcastic. Often sounds like he might be annoyed. He speaks in monotone with most people, even when he’s not in a bad mood, so people often think he’s angry or doesn’t like them (and to be fair, they are sometimes correct). If he’s talking to a friend, he’ll definitely be more animated and not so grumpy. And if, by chance, he’s talking to someone he’s attracted to (*coughDODGERcough*) then he’ll get a little tongue-tied, like he wants to flirt but he doesn’t really know how. Accent: American. When he speaks Korean, his American accent does come through a bit, something his family likes to tease him about. P E R S O N A L I T Y, M I N D S E T, A N D B E L I E F S Personality Type: ISFP-T Sense of Humor: Definitely sarcastic and dry. He can be mean at times, but usually only if the person deserves it. As a result, Ki-mun has been described as “sassy” more than once. When he’s with people he actually likes, Ki-mun is a lot more lighthearted and not so sarcastic. Habits: Twists his lips a little when he’s thinking hard. Rolls his eyes when someone says something he thinks is dumb. Also rolls his eyes and sighs if he’s stuck in a conversation he really doesn’t want to have. When he’s reading his poetry out loud, he never looks up at the audience/whoever is listening because he’ll get too nervous if he sees everyone looking at him. Fears/Phobias: As much as he tries to act like he doesn’t care what anyone thinks of him, Ki-mun is very secretive about certain aspects of himself, and is very afraid of someone finding out more about him than he wants them to know. He can’t stand having his privacy invaded, and it honestly makes him feel sick to think of the wrong person knowing too much about him (he still hates that he ever let himself be so vulnerable with Spencer, and blames himself for not seeing more clearly what kind of person he was). Strengths: Ki-mun is very creative and has a knack for all kinds of art. Although it’s hard to get to know him, once he becomes friends with someone, he is fiercely loyal and would do anything for them. As a teacher/teaching assistant, he is exceptionally patient– much more so than in other aspects of his life. He is always happy to answer questions and help anyone student who needs it. Underneath his harsh exterior, Ki-mun is a kind person who just has trouble opening himself up to others. Flaws: He has built up a lot of walls around himself in an effort to try and keep himself from getting hurt. Every time he’s let those walls down, he’s ended up regretting it and building them back up even higher. Anyone who wants to get to know him has to be very determined. Ki-mun is also not the type of person to be nice just because social conventions say he should– if he doesn’t like someone, he won’t talk to them. If he thinks someone is boring, he will tell them so. He can’t stand small talk and will never willingly engage in it. This makes him a very difficult person to interact with. Hopes/Desires: He is not entirely sure what he wants to do with his life, but right now, he’s happy just working and exploring his options. All he knows is that he wants to keep writing poetry, possibly get some published, and keep working in a field that lets him play to his strengths. Wildest Fantasy: A cure for HIV/AIDS being found. Self-Esteem: It’s a little complicated. On some level, Ki-mun is confident in himself and proud of all he’s accomplished in his life. Religion: He was raised Protestant, and his family used to be fairly devout. He went to church every Sunday, they read scriptures and said a family prayer every night, etc. But the older the kids got, the less active in the church the entire family became. His parents and siblings are still casually religious, and Ki-mun has held on to certain aspects of it, but he doesn’t care about going to church or reading the bible or anything.

what up, i’m pepper, i’m twenty four, and not to flex but i’ve had writer’s block for two str8 months !! but i’m hoping to change that right here right now with one ms. blue daviau so thank you for coming on this journey with me friends it’s gonna be wild. a bit about me is i’ve gone to the mall literally every day this week and honestly, i am Exhausted from it so i apologize for the mess this intro is about to be. i’m a taurus with a libra moon and libra rising so do with that information what you will. my favourite pokemon is mewtwo. growing up i had a massive crush on danny phanton and ben 10, like i loved those lanky boys that could transform to fight crime for some reason?? i can’t tell you why. also when i was a child i thought god looked like king triton from the little mermaid. alright that is enough about me, moving on to blue.

this is going to be the short version of her bio but if you want to see the long rambly messy version you can find my google doc/app here ! which i recommend you looking at for no other reason than to see how cute the little cherry doodle i inserted in there is. it took me so long to get that in there and looking cute. it’s baby’s first fancy google doc 😌 anyways sdjhdsjh 

blue was born and raised in hawaii! her mother, stormi, was miss hawaii state at one point and her father, reggie, was a pro surfer! however before blue was born her father had a surfing accident that left him in a wheelchair. he turned to art to try to cope with the trauma of this accident and the reality of never being able to surf again, and he even opened up his own gallery! his gallery became a tourist attraction in hawaii and pretty well known in the art community and after passing down her crown blue’s mother became a news anchor. so the fact was blue was the daughter of two local legends in hawaii and the expectations were high!

not to mention the fact that all of blue’s elder siblings were amazing too. blue has five older siblings and all of them are successful in their own right and in their own niche. they’re also all named after colours funnily enough. the daviau parents had big hippy energy in case you were wondering. 

so growing up blue was always just kind of the ‘other’ sibling. all her older siblings had showed their talents at a young age and grew into them pretty quickly, while blue was just kind of... there. she was an artist, but she wasn’t a groundbreaking artist. she could sing, but her voice was simply pretty, not lifechanging. she could surf, but she was average at best. to put it simply, blue was the daviau sibling who wasn’t at all special. which ironically, made her stand out like a sore thumb. 

blue didn’t mind too much though, at least not when she was younger. she kept to herself anyways. all blue wanted do when she was younger was read, draw, and explore hawaii’s wild life, so she had everything she could possibly need to be happy right at her fingertips. life was good for her despite her inadequacy, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t aware of it (and wouldn’t develop a complex about it later).

when blue was six though her parents decided that they needed to have sweet, sweet, baby number seven to save their marriage. they named that sweet boy gray. he did not save a damn thing, but he sure was cute. blue was eleven when her parents finally divorced and that pretty much marked the end of blue having any kind of parental guidance. 

long story short, both of blue’s parents went kinda buckwild the moment they were single and most of the responsibility to take care of five year old gray fell on blue. blue was the one to make gray’s meals. blue was the one to give gray a bath. blue was the one to tuck gray in at night and get him into his school clothes in the morning. blue was the one to help him with his homework and hold his hand as he crossed the street and honestly pretty much do everything for him until she was about seventeen. both her parents simply checked out on that front, and it the end blue was more of a mother to gray than either of their parents were. 

the pressure of having to not only take care of herself but also gray when she wasn’t even legally an adult yet, was honestly way too much for blue. her anxiety skyrocketed, and the pressure she put on herself only grew. the only way blue could really cope with it and calm herself down was by 1. losing herself in nature, 2. drawing, or 3. reading, or rather most likely, doing all of the above at once. using art of an escape pretty much guaranteed that blue’s love and passion for it grew, and with that her talent for it. by that time blue was seventeen she had a full portfolio ready to send off to any university outside of hawaii that would take her. because you bet your bottom dollar your girl was getting the hell outta there!

as we all know blue got accepted to tulane. it was hard to leave gray and her family behind, but blue set her mother and father straight before she left, ensuring that gray would be well taken care of in her stead and hoping that some distance between herself and her family that was so dependent on her (her mother never new how to cook so blue made all the meals, her father never knew how to handle gray so he was always coming to blue to advice, gray was absolutely lost without her, etc) would lift that pressure off her shoulders. 

it didn’t at first. the first few months were tough with all the calls blue got from home. that plus the schoolwork she had on her plate almost left her more stressed than before. however, slowly the calls began to fade and slowly blue was able to put her full focus in her art program, and later, her animation programs.

Blue’s father is in a wheelchair from the surfing accident that made him take up art. His past as a professional surfer is actually part of the reason why his gallery is so popular though honestly, because the accident was televised and after that tragedy many of his fans and the public wanted to support him. He just also so happened to be really talented. But yeah, Blue’s father was really talented at surfing, he was even invited to the summer olympics in the nineties! But he was also the type to refuse to go because ‘surfing should be freeing, the olympics have so many restrictions, it takes away from what surfing is!!’ dkjsd he was that type yk? I also imagine Blue’s parents were the type to be on the front lines at protests. As it is, Blue is the same, very passionate, definitely has made some bomb ass posters and t-shirts for every women's march she’s attended.

Blue can play the ukulele really well and she honestly has a really pretty singing voice. However she can’t dance even a little bit. Honestly, she could literally break a bone. Really wants to throw it back though 😔

Loves to bake and cook because they’re relaxing activities with built in rewards. Learned to bake and cook because of having to take care of herself and her brother's meals when she was younger, that is if she didn’t want them both to literally get diabetes. As it is though, now that she doesn’t have to worry about her baby brother’s diet as well as her own, she will make a whole chocolate cake just cause she’s a little stressed and proceed to actually eat it. But she will share though. Catch Blue coming to your hotel room with sweets.

All of Blue’s elder siblings are adults now, but Gray is still about sixteen. They exchanged letters from Hawaii to Tulane and Blue always spends hours decorating hers and including little snacks and cute little knick knacks in them, despite the fact that Gray is now an angsty teenager and does not find these things as entertaining as he used to. Despite that, they are definitely the closest out of their siblings for the most part.

Blue’s siblings' names are Sage, Jett, Jade, Ruby, Rose and of course Gray. Jade and Jett, and Ruby and Rose are both twins.

The type to cry easily honestly. Also the type to carry other people’s problems with her. Like if you tell Blue that someone hurt your feelings last week she will remember and she will check on you the next time she sees you. Very empathetic, almost to a fault though because she’s constantly being careful of everyone else’s feelings rather than her own. The type who’s a good listener though. Also the type to give either really good advice or really odd advice.  

Art still tends to be her happy place, something she got from her father. Trying to find her own place outside of her father's shadow. She wants to get into the world of animation and cartoons but the whole task is a bit daunting. Is planning to work her ass off for it though! Spends a lot of time in coffee shops storyboarding and making animations. I think she may have a contract going on with a cartoon network of some sort, like they may have picked up a show of hers? Because I imagine her putting out some of her first shorts on Youtube and that might have gotten a bit of attention and led to her getting a deal for a show, so. She’s probably working her ass off towards that, and is honestly probably 1.doubting if they really picked up her show because of her talent or her father’s name, and 2.wondering if she can really do this.

Loves water in all shapes and forms. Since she can’t go to the beach everyday, the small bath in her tiny ass apartment??? Suddenly heaven. That said, Blue is either terrified of the ocean or loves it and I can’t decide which. Standby on that.

Makes a great coffee cake. Like it’s to die for.

Is VERY passionate about the environment. Is a pescatarian. Goes to the farmers market to pick out fresh produce. Loves to hike.

Always has the urge to sketch or paint after she reads poetry or novels. Highlights her favourite bits and has the tendency to read them over when she’s sad. The parts she loves are usually the parts that leave her wanting something.

Draws when she’s sad too. Claire Saffitz energy when she’s cooking but also just through life. Very friendly, but an introvert when it comes to gathering her energy.

Lives for libraries and bookstores, and has stacks on stacks of books in her old apartment. Loves old children's books honestly, like The Secret Garden, and poetry. Like whimsical and fantastical fiction with flowery words that just brings you to another place? Blue’s freaking jam. Falls in love with someone in fiction every five days, and desperately wants to be in love in real life, hence all the tinder dates and blind dates. I don’t think Blue ever has fallen in love though, like not really.

An absolute baby when it comes to the cold. Literally there could be a slight breeze and Blue will be acting like she’s suddenly in the arctic.  Any cold destinations will be greeted by a bundled up Blue’s Clues.

Made her first painting out of her own feces at six months old. Her parents proudly framed it. It’s probably still up in the attic in their Hawaii home.

Won her first art show at six but was unsure whether it was because her art really was something worth awarding or because of her father’s name. The award got her on the front page of the Honolulu Tribune but with her father proudly at her back and the title ‘Following in her father’s footsteps’ above her head. Blue just wants to find her own footing in the art world, and be her own person.

Keeps a journal and has since she was a teenager.

More witchcraft au because I love these two cuties-

Arthur and Alfred had been together for a year, they had lived together for a month and worked together for a week. Arthur wrote novels in his free time and Alfred was a musician, so they were able to have the store open and live comfortably. As they woke up, Alfred immediately began kissing Arthur’s shoulder to wake him up better than his alarm was doing. Arthur chuckled softly, turning over to face his boyfriend and receive some kisses. Alfred paused staring down at Arthur, which made the Brit blush and chuckle a “ What are you looking at, love?” and Alfred’s face lit up. “ I- uh… You’re beautiful.” the response turned Arthur red, sitting up a bit to kiss Alfred.

There was a tap on the window, and both quickly turned their heads to see Arthur’s familiar. Alfred groaned as Arthur got up and pulled on boxers from his dresser before grabbing a bowl to put some fruit and already cooked egg. “ Familiar, sorry, I don’t have control over him.” Arthur pointed out. The large bird immediately hopped inside and started to hop to Alfred, snuggling against him. Alfred chuckled, petting it’s head. “ You sure he’s not your pet.” Alfred teased him, to which Arthur picked the bird to put him back outside. “ He comes around on his own accord anyways.” He pointed out.

The two got ready for their day with no more issues and headed to Arthur’s shop. Once Arthur unlocked the door, Alfred headed inside and started getting the high objects to the lower shelves. Arthur started opening the register and looking over everything so they could actually open the store officially. Something caught Alfred’s eye, and he moved to it. “ Hey, babe, I thought we stopped carrying fresh lavender.” Alfred called.

“ We stopped even before we started dating, love, why?” Arthur called, and Alfred immediately regretted picking up the lavender. Arthur had some herbs hanging in the front of the store, but he was currently towards the books in the back. “ Uhhhh, I may have just fucked up babe.” Alfred called, which got a laugh from Arthur as he headed over “ I hung lavender 2 weeks ago, there’s no reason for this to be so fresh... I think you may have just accepted a gift from the fae, love.” Arthur pointed out, to which Alfred rolled his eyes with a sassy “ Yeah, you think?” and a laugh.

“ Go bury, they already don’t like you. Good luck.” Arthur headed back to the desk to help a customer who was looking at the herbs behind the counter. Alfred sighed, heading over to Arthur and getting an idea “ Babe, imma head to that cafe downtown after I bury this, you want anything?” Alfred asked, hanging the lavender to dry on a different hook than the other. “ Hm, get some of those vanilla bean scones Francis makes.” Arthur said, kissing his boyfriend on the cheek as he grabbed his keys from behind the desk. 

Alfred returned about 30 minutes later, handing his boyfriend the scones and getting the reward of a kiss. Alfred and Arthur chatted about little things, and Arthur took to sorting the incense they sold. Alfred got out his guitar and sat out front of the store, busking to get some extra money because why not. The store wasn’t too busy on a Wednesday, anyways.

Arthur joined him, sitting next to him on a cushion he brought out. It was a nice day out and since Alfred worshipped Apollo he loved to sit out in the sun. “ Babe, I know you said you don’t like singing in public but you should sing the next song. Please?” Alfred pleaded with his boyfriend, which easily wore the Brit down. “ Fine, just play one I know this time?” he gave Alfred a peck before Alfred started to play a song he was sure Arthur knew.

After the song, the small audience that had formed clapped and tossed some money into Alfred’s guitar case. Alfred swooped Arthur up after putting down his guitar, kissing his face and telling him how good he sang. “ I’m surprised you had the guts to do that for once, lad, you never sang growing up.” a man said, and Arthur’s head whipped to look at him. “ Allistor, what the hell are you doing here?!” Arthur pulled away from Alfred and hugged the man, which made Alfred frown a bit. 

Allistor hugged Arthur back and Arthur turned to Alfred “ Love, this is my eldest brother.” He explained “ Allistor, this is my boyfriend Alfred.” Arthur sat back down next to Alfred. Alfred’s eyes widened a bit, holding his hand out to the Scot “ Oh, hey! I thought you said he lived in Scotland.” Allistor chuckled and shook Alfred’s hand “ Aye, I do, I’m down in this bullshit country for business however. Arthur, ya fruit, you never said you got yerself a lad.” Arthur rolled his eyes, leaning against Alfred “ Well I did. How are the other two?” 

“ No clue. Dylan’s in Wales and Seamus is in Northern Ireland and they’ve both fucked off. Yer Pa still tries to talk to me at least, told him to fuck off a few times.” Arthur snorted at his brother’s mention of his dad “ As you should, man tried to kill me.” He reminded him, sighing softly. Arthur’s childhood was FAR from the best, and Alfred knew this. 

Allistor just laughed, shaking his head “ How long have you two been together, a week? He’s protective still.” Allistor asked, and Arthur looked away. “ I, um... We’ve been dating over a year now.” Arthur laughed nervously, and Allistor stared at Arthur with a surprised look on his face. “ And you never thought to TELL me?! I could understand not telling the other two, but I practically raised you!” Allistor actually looked hurt, which made Arthur lean against Alfred more. 

“ Well it wasn’t like you were the biggest supporter of any of my boyfriends before, as well Alfred and I started after a not very favorable event.” he looked to Alfred, and Alfred hugged him by the shoulder “ Hey! I made up for the attraction curse, didn’t I?” Alfred pouted, and Allistor just stared at his brother. “ The bloke put an attraction curse on you and you still dated him?!” Allistor asked, crossing his arms. “ I broke it as soon as I realized, Minerva gave me signs that I was cursed!” Arthur blushed, getting up “ I’m making tea, do you two want any?” he headed into the shop, and Allistor followed. “ Just save me some water so I can make myself some coffee.” Alfred called and started to busk again.

Arthur sat behind the counter, turning on his electric kettle and getting down his tea collection. “ Take you pick, Alli, I have crystals I need to identify and sort.” he said, starting to do just that. “ It’s good to see you still have mum’s shop running, how did you get Aunt June to fuck off?” Allistor looked around, smiling and seeing a painting their mother had done before she got sick. Arthur chuckled softly “ It was easy, I just told her mum wanted me to have the store back. She knows I have a habit of putting curses on people, so it was more of that fear hitting her.” Allistor laughed, moving back to the counter and still looking around “ So what does she think of your lad?”

When Arthur was quiet, Allistor looked to his younger brother, realizing that it was his “oh shit” face. “ You... Haven’t told mun you have a boyfriend, have you?” He asked, moving over to the counter again. “ Shut it! It never occurred to me! Alfred drives me to see her every day but they’re never met!” he put his hands on his head. Their mother was constantly sick, and had almost lost her life giving birth to Arthur. The doctor warned her from having children ever again, though when she believed she was better she had their younger brother, Peter. That turned out to be a mistake and she got back to being just as sick.  

Arthur pushed his bangs back, a sign of stress Allistor had learned, and looked to his phone. “ Alfred, you’re meeting my mum and younger brother today.” he called out to his boyfriend, who looked back looking very surprised “ Oh, cool!” he smiled, and Allistor tried not to laugh. “ Is he always like this?” He asked, watching Alfred start to pack up his guitar to go inside which Arthur chuckled at.

“ He worships Apollo, he’s a mess.” Arthur teased Alfred as the American set down his guitar behind the counter “ He‘s the embodiment of sunshine if I’m honest.” Allistor made a fake gag noise and Arthur blushed a bit “ Shut the hell up, you asked if he’s always like this and I answered!” He pouted, moving to get the tea seeped. After he got enough water from the kettle for him and Allistor, making sure that there was enough for Alfred to have a cup. He took out the sugar, setting it on the counter.

As Alfred made his coffee, he looked to Arthur as Allistor and he chatted more. Alfred kissed his cheek, smiling happily as Arthur blushed. “ Are you going to see mum tonight, Art?” Allistor asked, drinking his own tea. “ No, actually, Alfred and I are going on a date.” Arthur chuckled softly “ I’m going to see her and Peter tomorrow, however.” Arthur looked to Alfred “ Us three can all go tomorrow.” He offered.

27. What section do you immediately head for when you walk into a bookstore?

Roy: Comics! I like to browse them but not buy them, otherwise I would have a huge stack in all of our safehouses. If I do decide to buy a book or two, I unironically like trashy romance novels.

Jay: I like nonfiction and reference books, but sometimes I’ll slip some action novels in with my purchases. I like to have some lighter reading from time to time.

Mun: It really depends, sometimes I go to the store with a clear idea in mind for a very specific book, otherwise I could just stay there for hours browsing through all of the sections!

30. Where could someone find you in a museum?

R: Art & Sculpture. I especially like works from native or indigenous groups, or works made out of natural materials.

J: Weapons. Historical and modern. Roy likes to join me sometimes, his favorite thing to look at there is armor and long-range weaponry.

M: I long all kinds of things at museums, but if there’s a section with any kind of paleontology, I’m making a b-line for it!

32. Rainbows, stars, or sunset-colored clouds?

R: Rainbows, I like hunting for them after a rain shower!

J: Stars, I like looking up at them and just thinking...

M: Sunset-colored clouds, I live by the ocean, so it’s always so amazing to see them reflected on the water.

Four is a lot! I'm not really in any active fandoms with a name right now, just kind of things I'm enjoying on my own time during the lockdown. I'm rewatching a lot of old cartoons that meant a lot to me as a kid. Like Ren and Stimpy, Chalkzone, Johnny Bravo, Cow and Chicken, and Spongebob. XD.

6. How has this pandemic been treating you?

Other than my company and bank screwing me over with some drama about my paycheck that I'm still trying to resolve, it's actually going pretty well! I've been getting a lot of art done. And now that most of my friends are done with their classes it's not so lonely anymore because I've been on voice chat in discord like constantly

Mmmmmm, not to sound basic but the gore and horror aspect of yandere is 😍😍😍 but I dont like to glorify it so I just kinda keep it to myself

17. Rate your life 1-10, 1 being really crappy and 10 being best it could ever be.

Ooo. Uhm.. 8! I think I have a right to say I was dealt a really shitty hand. But despite all that, I'm doing better for myself than I ever hoped I could be when I was at my lowest. I'm happy, I'm mostly healthy, I like my job, and I have wonderful friends! The only thing I want is my own apartment with a guest bedroom and a craft room 😍

A decade of friends - in no order, here’s to all the amazing people in my life old and new!

@shinkumancer : I remember following your work waaay back in the Archie Comic days. I had always been too shy to approach you, but I loved your work. I still remember so much of your Egg Boss art and it’s insane how far you’ve come. You’re still one of the sweetest, kindest people I know and I always enjoy the little drawpile sessions we have! 

@zlatis-art : We haven’t been friends for very long - it’s roughly been a year, now, but it feels like we’ve been friends longer. Something just... clicked when we met, and god I came on strong looking back! I don’t regret it tho - taking the plunge and letting you into my life was such a good call. You’re super patient and you strive so hard to treat everyone fairly and give people so much love. You’ve come such a long way with both your OCs and your art, and our calls are always so much fun! 

@sege-h : Would you believe I actually don’t remember exactly how we met...? I know it had something to do with the Sonic RPC iirc. But you’ve always been such a wonderful source of optimism and joy, and I love our talks! You’ve always been so supportive of me and I don’t know how to thank you for it?? I need to draw Storm and Carey doing more shenannigans when I get better!

I remember Nuki and the others. It’s been such a long time and so much has changed around us both. We don’t talk as much anymore but I’m always thrilled when we do hit eachother up on twitter!! Your plushies and your fursuits are absolutely amazing and I can’t believe how far you’ve come! I also still have the sketches you and your sister did for me when I was technically homeless and stuck in the hospital and I’ll always treasure them - and the Nack you made for me is still sitting cozy on my shelf, along with the yeen and Sonic you sent!

@nuttyrabbit : My absolute best friend!!! And probably most unexpected friend! I remember seeing your posts in the Archie Sonic tag way back when, and how my asshole ex used to rant about how she hated you for w/e reason. I used to be so intimidated by you because you told it how it is, and I respected your opinion so I was always lowkey afraid you thought I was stupid and hated my ideas/OCs. But even before we got close, you stuck your neck out for me when things got bad between my ex and me. And in 2018, we finally just started to click with our OC stuff.  Lady Luck became a huge comfort dynamic for the both of us. You always argue against it but I still say you’re one of the kindest people I know. You always try to look out for me and find ways to lend a hand when things get tough, you’re always trying to help me when I’m down and you go out of your way to cheer me up and I can’t thank you enough. Meeting you at RTX this year was incredible.  Thank you so much for being you. <3

If it wasn’t for your old server, the current server wouldn’t have even existed and you brought us all together!
