ANGER — jaw clenching, hands balling into fists, teeth grinding, yelling, going nonverbal, vocalizations, stuttering speech, rushed speech, slow concise speech, rambling, quiet, arms crossing, shaking head, curling lip upwards, baring teeth, tearing up, animated, expressionless, projects, internalizes, vents, withdraws, tighter movements, passive-aggressive, direct, physical outbursts, verbal outbursts, pacing, going still, anger boils over in the heat of the moment but cools down quickly afterwards, anger brews slowly but lingers longer, will act out of impulse when angry, will stew on their anger and plot revenge, holds grudges, forgives easily, forgives but never forgets

Theseus, who was helped by poseidon multiple times, but in the end was thrown off a cliff by the citizens of Athens and drowned. Drowned in the ocean, the very domain of his father.

Kymopoleia, who was neglected by Poseidon once he found her to be too violent, left to wander his abandoned palaces, given up as a war prize to man she didn't even want with no choice at all.

Bellerophon, who was given the pegasus to tame as a gift from Poseidon in some myths, dying by falling off of it on his way to Olympus.

I'm just saying, that line wasn't a random throwaway line by Ares, he means it.

ares headcanons!!!

he fights w/ a spear and shield, most of the time, though is capable of using nearly any weapon in a fight if necessary. some of his other best weapons include swords (khopesh or jian are some of his faves), halberds, slings, or a shotgun.

he has four dogs named after famous military leaders of the past. three of them are big boys (bernese, rhodesian ridgeback, great dane), but one of them is a little rat terrier named boudicca. she's the leader of the pack, clearly.

of all of his siblings, ares is closest with hebe and dionysus, i think. though he and eris are twins, they are often at odds with one another unless its on matters of warfare. then they usually side with each other.

ares' first love was aphrodite, and to this day, she is the only person he's ever felt so strongly for. he lost his virginity to her, and fathered most of his children by her, and its safe to say that ares is head over heels in love with aphrodite.

ares has extremely severe ptsd, compounded upon by thousands of years of experience on the battlefield and adverse experiences elsewhere (the bronze jar, for example). he is the god of war, and enjoys bloodshed - but he has seen some things and experienced some atrocities that even he cannot condone, and it has left him pretty shaken (hypervigilance and aggression are strong in this one).

ares is a champion for veterans and others suffering with ptsd as a result. he attends workshops and speaks to veterans, works one on one in their homes, and often advocates behind the scenes for better treatment and care for those with ptsd.

ares is severely claustrophobic.

he is missing his right eye and replaces it with a glass one or an eye patch when it starts to feel irritated. he had to completely retrain himself how to fight with his altered sense of depth perception, and tends to ensure people are always on his left so he can see them.
