“Tell me what happened with Luke.”

Mara recoiled, instinctively pulling the sheets around herself as she withdrew. 

Wedge’s hand shot out and curved around the back of her neck, stopping her and making her look at him. “You’re perfect for him,” he said definitively. “You know that.”

She shook her head, her hair soft against his skin. “I want things.” she glanced distractedly at their bodies, still sticky and flushed. “Things no Jedi —”

He barked with laughter, making her eyes snap back to his, wary and confused. 

“I’ve been fucking Luke off and on for 10 years,” Wedge said flatly. “And he’s the same in bed now as he was the day he got off that desert hell-planet he comes from. He’ll take what he can get when he has to, but he’s happier than a murra in grass when he’s got a parter he wreck completely.” Dropping his hand, he let his fingers encircle her wrist, rubbing his thumb slowly over her pulse-point. “He’d have left you the bruises you want.” 

Mara’s ducked her head to her shoulder, a flash of misery crossing her face that made Wedge’s stomach turn.  

“It’s not —” he stopped, wondering if she could feel the frustration and resentment burning in his chest. If she’d understand them correctly if she did. “It’s not something to be ashamed of,” he tried again. “Hell — Luke would be thrilled.”

“Unlike you,” she said, quietly. 

“You’ve fucked me well how many times?” He asked dryly. “I can return the favor now and then, now that I know what you want.” He sighed. “But no, I can’t do this all the time. I’m just not wired for it.”

You like bad characters who get better gradually, and still stan for Vader? The man went from threatening to abuse his daughter to the Dark Side and trying to kill his son to killing the Emperor in two seconds flat. The man is an overpowered Villain Sue.

Hi anon. What gave you the idea I was a Vader stan?? I mentioned it before with another anon, but Vader means nothing to me as a character without Anakin Skywalker. I am an Anakin Skywalker fan first and foremost! Vader is just part of his story for me.

Why is this important? Because Vader/Anakin was not always evil like Jabba or Palpatine. Anakin was a hero who had a tragic flaw and lost his way. So Vader had a past of good deeds. Therefore, Vader deciding to save Luke has precedent based on the love he had/has for his family that caused him to go dark in the first place.

Plus, Vader is shown to be conflicted before he saves Luke. He sees Luke as his opportunity to overthrow his abuser and have a chance at a family again. Vader dies for his efforts so it's not like he skipped happily into the sunset after saving Luke (at least not in the physical world anyway).

If Vader was a villain sue, why the heck is he dead at the end of the movie? How was Luke able to get the upper hand? How was Palpatine able to manipulate Vader and treat him like a dog if he were an overpowered villain sue?

anyways while i am here talking about star wars opinions i can’t stand, i have no respect for the ‘rey nobody’ crowd. because, no, the point of star wars wasn’t that ✨anyone can be great✨ star wars is a FAMILY SOAP OPERA ABOUT THE SKYWALKERS!!!! EVERY. SINGLE. MOMENT OF. STORYTELLING. FROM. BOTH. THE ORIGINAL. AND. PREQUEL. TRILOGIES. EXIST. BECAUSE. OF. HOW. THEY. PLAY. INTO. THE. SKYWALKER. MYTHOLOGY. george lucas himself has described the star wars as a space opera about fathers and sons! the only people who are truly “nobodies” are the jedi and every single piece of star wars media worth its salt has made a point of letting you know how the jedi dogma of stripping people of their identity only creates broken people with very few exceptions (which is literally why luke and anakin’s character archs involve them REJECTING the jedi). so, no, the sequel trilogy would not have been more profound, or in keeping with the so-callled ethos of star wars, had rey been nobody. luke was never nobody!! anakin was never nobody! leia was never nobody!!!! how do people argue with their whole chest that rey SHOULD NOT have been a skywalker because the message of star wars was “anyone can be powerful” when the actual throughline of star wars is how the intergenerational trauma of a single family ripples out to effect an entire galaxy??? rey being nobody would have been as bad as rey [gags] palpatine. the only story that would have been in keeping with the actual ethos of star wars being a fucking skywalker telenovela would be rey being a skywalker, or, in the very least, a kenobi.

Luke visits the Lake of Apparitions. From the Mara fakes her death fic.

“Father,” Luke said, surprised and torn. 

“Not who you’re looking for, I know,” Anakin said, a smile pulling at his lips briefly before he turned serious. “But that’s why I came. The Emperor’s Hand isn’t here, my son.”

“Not.. wherever you access the lake from?” Luke clarified with a frown.

“Not here, in the afterlife,” Anakin corrected. “When I felt you seeking her, I mounted my own search. I cannot tell you where she is, but I am certain she remains on your side of the veil.”

“But Karrde told me she was dead!” 

“Did he?” Anakin asked shrewdly. 

“He said she was gone.” Realization dawned, even as the words left his lips. Karrde had lived with Mara for years now; he knew the limitations of Jedi power. Doubtless Mara had explained at some point that carefully chosen words that were not technically inaccurate would read as true in the Force, even if the impression they gave was misleading. 

“Convenient word, gone,” Anakin said, grimly. “It leave a great deal of room for inference.” 

Luke’s eyes narrowed. “And Wedge?” 

Anakin shook his head, his golden hair rippling in the water. “Nothing.” 

Certainty anchored itself in Luke’s heart, and with it both confusion and determination. With Mirax safe and as in the dark as he was, he could think of nothing that would draw Mara and Wedge together, much less anything that cold compel them both to abandon their lives without a word. But they were alive, and almost surely together. 

And that meant he could find them. 

“Luke.” 

He glanced back at the water, at his father. 

“I can’t say I understand your attraction to the Hand, and I would not dictate your life choices,” Anakin’s mouth twisted into a grimace. “I made too much a mess of my own to have any right. But as a man who chose poorly… if you love her, and you have the chance to be with her, take it. The galaxy bends for love, and a man’s heart falls into blackness without it — even when giving it up was his choice.” 

Luke nodded solemnly, aware that somewhere in the path between Yavin and here, he’d already reached the same conclusion. He would find Mara, and this time he would not fumble the moment. He would not lose her again.
