I still say that Merlin should’ve killed the Pendragon’s and put Gwen on the throne.

Love in the Time of Dragons
This episode’s so dull it’s hard to rewatch it. Poor Merlin really got the short end of the stick as always. Gaius either refused to believe in anything Merlin said or denied the truth in the hopes that it made Merlin less, and not more, suspicious of Alice. He knew Merlin was right on most occasions, but didn’t want to confide in Merlin, because he believed he could protect Alice that way. It was ridiculous and illogical, but, hey, anything to torment good ole Merlin, huh?
Uther nearly died this episode but, of course, Merlin and Gaius did everything to save him. Arthur actually managed to put two and two together and realize his father had been poisoned. Also, he looked hot this episode. He looks really good in red. He was kinda nice too.
Arthur tried to cheer up Merlin about Gaius by telling Merlin to do what he did when he argued with his father, which was wait for Uther to come to his senses - that honestly said a lot Arthur’s relationship with Uther. And then he punched Merlin in the arm to make him feel better... Honestly, the most memorable part of the episode was this. Arthur’s such a guy, I feel bad for Gwen:
Merlin: How is punching me in the arm meant to cheer me up? Arthur: It works with the knights. Merlin: Well, they're thick, aren't they? Arthur: I'm a knight. Merlin: There you go, then.
Best part of the episode, Arthur and Merlin are cute like this. But I still felt bad for Merlin. He has to be everything for Arthur, including his punching bag.
If I could summarize the entire show in two words it would be: Poor. Merlin. He even lost his bed to Alice in this episode.
On the plus side, I liked seeing Gaius in love when he wasn’t acting totally crazy and irrational; and we learned that he helped Alice escape during the purge, but stayed behind himself because he’d been too scared to leave.
PS: What’s with the title? Is it meant to be a reference to Love in the Time of Cholera?

Merlin S3E9, “Love in the Time of Dragons”
The title gives me hope we’ll see a dragon. Probably going to be Kilgharrah, to be honest.
Okay so this woman has magic! And there’s a weird creature that she keeps in a box.
Never thought I’d see Uther tell anyone, ESPECIALLY Gaius, to go the tavern.
Gaius must be protecting someone because that powder was definitely magical. And if it were Merlin we’d have seen Gaius chewing him out already.
I love seeing the domesticity of Gaius and Merlin.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: MORE SLEEP SHIRT MERLIN.
Who is that, and what’s their relationship with Gaius? (Exes, apparently.)
Is this his wife?
The literacy rate in this world seems extraordinarily high.
Merlin looks so happy for Gaius :)
So not his wife.
Gaius please be happy. I want to see an AU where he and Alice get to be together.
Always love the way Gaius says “sorcerer”. Richard Wilson’s performance in this is wonderful. I always hoped we’d see more Gaius.
Merlin sleeps in socks.
We’re getting more sleep shirt Merlin!
It’s going to get out of hand. I knew Merlin was going to get in trouble.
MERLIN. BE NICE TO GEOFFREY.
I am Geoffrey of Monmouth’s biggest fan.
The way he said “…now go back to sleep”, and generally that whole moment, was hilarious.
So Gaius is in his seventies. I didn’t realise he was that old.
Ironically the bells are ringing at the same time the light in my living room is flickering. Even the electricity is contributing to the feel…
WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH UTHER
It’s funny how much Merlin has changed over the course of the series. Gaius is somewhat right.
Somehow I feel Uther will survive. If only because a) they would only kill him at the start or the end of the season, b) it would not be in a “monster of the week” episode, and c) it would be more foreshadowed or in an episode where more things happen.
ARE WE GOING TO GET GAIUS DOING MAGIC??? YESSSS

quotes by Victorians about the 1920s view of their generation's women
"We are frequently told that the Victorian woman...generally behaved like a pampered and neurotic infant. This is all moonshine. I do not think that I ever saw a woman faint before I came to London in 1869, and not often after then...they enjoyed a hearty laugh, and a good many of them a contest of wits with any man." -Nineteenth Century, a Monthly Review, 1927 (written by a man born in 1850)
"What queer ideas the girl of 1929 has about the Victorian period- they are not a bit true...Marriage was by no means the end and aim of our existence. Oxford and Cambridge claimed quite a few of us after school days were over. We had great ideas about 'life' and what it all might mean to us." -St. Petersburg Times, 1929 (written by a woman born in 1853)
"True, debutantes were chaperoned at balls. But that fact did not prevent them from dancing as frequently as they chose with their favorite partners. The idea that girls in the Victorian era spent their days sewing seams and practicing scales is another fallacy." -Gettysburg Times, July 1, 1927 (quote from the Dowager Lady Raglan, Ethel Jemima Somerset, who lived from 1857 to 1940)
