World's best beaches, 2024, according to TripAdvisor: 1. Praia da Falésia – Algarve, Portugal 2. Spiaggia dei Conigli – Sicily, Italy 3. La Concha Beach – Basque Country 4. Ka’anapali Beach – Maui, Hawaii 5. Grace Bay Beach – Turks and Caicos
I never of of this beach before.. have you ever been there? And do you notice it is popular with tourists? 🤔
Kaixo anon!
Are... are you for real??
I mean, if you haven't heard about this beach you probably won't know any other Basque beach. La Concha is probably the best-known beach in EH along with the Big Beach in Biarritz.
Of course I've been there, anon, hundreds of times, and yes: sadly every year it's increasingly popular among tourists, just like the town where it's located (Donostia).

La Concha is the big one in the middle of the pic; the little one on the right is Ondarreta.

TDSP WEEKEND UPDATE
We are very grateful that we have an Ollie writer who came back to our crew for the amount of time they can be here. The Captain gave them a scene to do, along with following the “2-week deadline” rule. We are always welcome to more people joining and re-joining our crew who can follow this rule, because most of us need to move on.
We are preparing to write for chapter 5, and we are still planning that out before our 2 week deadline is up. Since the due date for chapter 5 and any other things that need to be done falls on Independence Day, the due date will be the day after.
For visualization purposes, we have decided to map out where the crew is sailing about. Ed and his crew will make stops in Haitian, Puerto Rican, Cuban, and Turks and Caicos waters. If you look on a map of the Caribbean, these places are all near The Bahamas, which is where we visualized Tiburon to be located in.
A lot of historical research goes on into a book like this, which includes foreign relations in the 18th century. During this time, Great Britain and France were not under good terms like they are now. Ollie was in the Royal Navy serving under a British king who most likely saw France as an enemy. It’s still an adjustment for him to see his fellow Brit, Ed, do business with everyone, including the French. We also made Charlie have some French blood since she called her mother the French word for “Mom” when she met her in chapter 15 of DS1.

Atlantic Tropical Weather Outlook issued by the National Hurricane Center in Miami, FL, USA
2023-11-15, 13:00 EST
Tumblr media
Southwestern Caribbean Sea: Disorganized showers and thunderstorms persist in association with a trough of low pressure located in the southwestern Caribbean Sea. Environmental conditions appear marginally conducive for development of this system over the next couple of days, and a tropical depression could form by this weekend as the system starts moving northeastward across the western and central part of the Caribbean Sea. An Air Force Reserve reconnaissance mission is scheduled to investigate the system tomorrow.
Regardless of development, this system is expected to produce heavy rains that could result in flash flooding and mudslides over portions of the Caribbean coast of Central America and the Greater Antilles through this weekend. Interests in Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, the southeastern Bahamas, and the Turks and Caicos Islands should continue to monitor the progress of this system.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...40 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...medium...50 percent.
Offshore Southeast Coast of United States: A non-tropical area of low pressure is expected to form near southern Florida along a frontal boundary by tomorrow. This system is then forecast to move quickly northeastward across the Bahamas and offshore of the east coast of the U.S. through the weekend. Although development into a tropical cyclone appears unlikely, this system is expected to produce gusty winds and heavy rains across portions of southern Florida, the Florida Keys, and the Bahamas during the next couple of days. For more information on this system, including gale warnings, see High Seas Forecasts issued by the National Weather Service.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent.
* Formation chance through 7 days...low...10 percent.
&& High Seas Forecasts issued by the National Weather Service can be found under AWIPS header NFDHSFAT1, WMO header FZNT01 KWBC, and online at ocean.weather.gov/shtml/NFDHSFAT1.php

How to Find the Best Vacation Rental in Turks and Caicos
Tumblr media
Planning a getaway to the tropical paradise of Turks and Caicos involves more than just choosing the right destination; finding the perfect vacation rental is key to ensuring a memorable and comfortable stay. With a myriad of options available, navigating the world of vacation rentals can be overwhelming. This guide will walk you through the essential steps to help you find the best vacation rental in Turks and Caicos, ensuring a delightful and stress-free Caribbean escape.
Define Your Preferences:
Start by clarifying your preferences and requirements. Determine the size of the accommodation needed, whether you prefer a beachfront villa, a cozy cottage, or a modern condo. Consider amenities such as a private pool, proximity to the beach, and the number of bedrooms. Defining your preferences will narrow down your options and make the search more focused.
Research the Islands:
Turks and Caicos comprises multiple islands, each with its own unique charm. Providenciales (Provo) is the most developed and popular, known for its stunning Grace Bay Beach. North and Middle Caicos offer a more tranquil setting, ideal for those seeking a secluded retreat. Researching the different islands will help you choose a location that aligns with your vacation goals.
Utilize Vacation Rental Websites:
Explore reputable vacation rental websites to discover a wide range of properties in Turks and Caicos. Websites like Airbnb, Vrbo, and Booking.com provide detailed listings with photos, reviews, and pricing information. Use filters to narrow down your search based on your preferences, budget, and desired dates. Pay attention to guest reviews for insights into the property's condition and the host's responsiveness.
Consider Budget and Value:
Establish a budget for your accommodation and be mindful of any additional fees such as cleaning, service charges, or security deposits. While it's tempting to opt for the lowest price, also consider the overall value. A slightly higher-priced rental with better amenities or a prime location might enhance your experience and prove more cost-effective in the long run.
Check for Flexibility:
Flexibility in terms of booking dates and cancellation policies is essential, especially when planning a vacation. Look for vacation rentals with reasonable cancellation policies and hosts who are communicative and accommodating. This flexibility can be crucial in case of unexpected changes to your travel plans.
Verify the Amenities:
Carefully review the list of amenities offered by each vacation rental. Ensure that the property meets your specific needs, whether it's a fully equipped kitchen, Wi-Fi, air conditioning, or beach gear. Some vacation rentals may provide extras like bikes, snorkeling equipment, or access to a private beach, enhancing your overall experience.
Reach Out to Hosts:
Engage with potential hosts before making a reservation. Clear communication is key to addressing any questions or concerns you may have. Inquire about the check-in process, local recommendations, and any additional details not covered in the listing. Responsive and helpful hosts contribute significantly to a positive vacation experience.
Examine Location and Accessibility:
Consider the location of the vacation rental in relation to local attractions, beaches, and amenities. Proximity to grocery stores, restaurants, and transportation options is essential for convenience. Additionally, assess the accessibility of the property, especially if you have specific mobility requirements.
Read Reviews Thoroughly:
Guest reviews provide valuable insights into the real experiences of previous visitors. Take the time to read reviews for each potential vacation rental, paying attention to both positive and negative feedback. Look for consistent themes in the reviews to gauge the property's overall quality and the host's reliability.
Book in Advance:
Turks and Caicos is a sought-after destination, and the best vacation rentals tend to get booked quickly, especially during peak seasons. To secure your preferred accommodation, it's advisable to book well in advance. Early booking not only ensures availability but also allows ample time for planning the rest of your trip.
Conclusion:
Finding the best vacation rental in Turks and Caicos requires careful consideration of your preferences, budget, and the offerings of each property. By utilizing online platforms, communicating with hosts, and thoroughly researching your options, you can discover the perfect home away from home for an unforgettable Caribbean escape. Keep in mind that a well-chosen vacation rental can significantly enhance your overall experience, making your stay in Turks and Caicos truly exceptional.

Finding Sunken Ships while Diving in the Caribbean Sea
Tumblr media
The countries that make up the Caribbean are most widely known for their pristine beaches and aquamarine waters. The Caribbean is also a popular scuba diving spot, with many divers taking in the diverse marine life, including coral reefs. Scuba divers can also tour the sunken ships beneath the Caribbean Sea.
Cozumel, Turks and Caicos, Bonaire, and St. Croix are among some of the top scuba diving destinations. However, while they offer divers much in terms of marine scenery, the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Aruba, and Roatan offer divers something more- a little bit of history.
The Bahamas is an archipelago comprised of 700 plus islands located in the middle of the Caribbean Sea and the Western Atlantic Ocean. Some top diving spots include Tiger Beach, where divers can see many tiger sharks, or visit Bimini to see hammerheads. Bimini is also where divers can tour the remnants of the once powerful 282-foot cargo steamer, the SS Sapona.
The vessel traveled the Caribbean Sea during World War I, but a 1926 hurricane caused the ship to move off course. The vessel shipwrecked near Bimini, where remnants of the wreckage still exist. Today, the wreck off Bimini is one of the most popular diving spots because of the marine life that sits below. The ship's skeleton appears on the water's surface, but frogfish, nudibranchs, starfish, and crabs live below. Furthermore, divers can see reef sharks, sea turtles, grouper, and various rays.
The Cayman Islands is also the location of two shipwrecks. Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman offer divers impressive drop-offs, with Grand Cayman being the location of Stingray City and other marine life. These islands were also the location of a significant discovery for a couple who traveled to the Cayman Islands in 1970. The couple snorkeled near Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman when they found an emerald-encrusted jewel in an area now named Lost Treasure Reef. After renting diving gear, they returned to the site to find a 13-foot gold chain, platinum bar, and 300 pounds in gold items. The booty came from a 450-year-old Spanish ship traveling from Mexico to Spain circa 1522 that disappeared.
The other sunken ship was the USS Kittiwake. The boat has remained intact after being intentionally sunken in 2011. This rescue ship traveled among the Caribbean, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans for five decades, beginning in 1949 and ending in 1994. After removing all its contaminants, the government sunk the ship. Today, the recreational site is shallow enough for free divers and snorkelers to tour the wreckage.
Divers can also travel to Aruba to tour Antilla, one of the Caribbean's largest (and most famous) shipwrecks. Aruba was a Dutch colony in 1940. Germany built Antilla and anchored it off the coast of Aruba in 1939. Coincidentally, Germany invaded the Netherlands, so Dutch mariners tried to board the ship, but the German captain prevented them from boarding. The captain then ordered his men to destroy the ship, after which they escaped sinking, but were apprehended by the Dutch. Today, parts of the ship's wreckage sit above the surface where pelicans and other sea birds live, but divers can find diverse anemones, hard coral, moray eels, crustaceans, and octopuses.
Finally, Roatan, an island off Honduras, is another popular for scuba diving. The lush, mountainous landscape allows divers of all levels to tour the water's depths. Those diving in the area will descend the Hole in the Wall, a steep vertical descent down a reef wall. In addition to seeing bright coral, schools of fish, rays, and moray eels, divers can also tour the El Aguila (the Eagle) shipwreck.
In 1998, before being broken into three parts during Hurricane Mitch, it measured 230 feet. Historians believe the ship was on course from Haiti to Puerto Cortes carrying concrete. After shipwrecking, it remained underwater for years before being brought into the Roatan harbor before another storm drug it out to the reef. At some point, a team purchased and cleaned the ship, sinking it in its current location.

Okay so other than the xavier riddle idea that is currently on the back burner (i can talk about it more if you want idk if i've told you i know i rambled to tobi though) and the scioly fedex au that i'm currently almost done with chapter 2 of (!!!), I had yet another idea while in the shower.
So circa halloween 2020, my mom had an idea to take my grandparents and my aunt/uncle/cousin on her side on a virtual cruise because we'd done an actual cruise the two years before but then covid and yeah. We called it squishmallow cruises and well it's expanded to squishmallow tours (road trips) and squishmallow resorts (cottage) but that's not super important.
Anyway we've had 3 cruises and 1 tour since with another tour scheduled for this winter break and a vague idea of one for spring break.
Then my brain pretty much goes "hey what if you used that as a fanfic?" so it'd have a chapter for each day the kotlc crew are on the cruise/tour and like Dex (because i project on to dex) and Sophie? (Because human) or Fitz? (Because he's a nerd like that. I think he would know geography) and everybody else would be unwilling participants.
Not sure which one of our cruises i'd go with but i'd go with one i already have in my google drive instead of making another one just for this. Cause i've got
Caribbean 1 - board in Ft. lauderdale, florida-> st. Penelope (squishmallow cruises' fictional private island in the bahamas) -> us virgin islands -> st. Kitts and nevis -> turks and caicos -> at sea (tea party) -> ft. Lauderdale. Overall quality was real bad because first attempt.
Caribbean 2 - board in Ft. Lauderdale -> usvi -> st. Lucia -> curaçao -> aruba -> at sea -> ft. Lauderdale. I don't have an immediate counterpoint to this one
Alaska - board in seattle -> at sea -> juneau -> skagway -> glacier bay national park (scenic cruising) -> ketchikan -> victoria (british colombia, canada). This is where we started adding youtube videos to our slide presentations for each of our excursion and it's the one i'm probably most familiar with
Ireland (tour) - this one's gonna be too difficult to list but basically fly into shannon, stay in ennis, stay in galway, then up to giants causeway, stay just south of dublin, then down and over to killarney and stay there before going back to shannon to fly home. This one was shortened to 3 days because we didn't want to do a whole week but it certainly deserved it
(Winter break) Italy (tour) - pisa, siena (tea party), rome, panicale (squishmallow cooking channel-hey i could do something with fitz's baking), florence, and back to pisa to fly home. The only problem is that this isn't finished and i haven't lived through it that much and i don't have any slides
(Spring break...maybe) Scandinavia & baltic - copenhagen, aarhus, berlin, at sea, tallinn, helsinki, stockholm, copenhagen and go home. Unless i want until next summer for this i won't be doing this one for similar reasons as above
why i knew so much about alaska/british colombia with keefe's house location on the canon map, should make sense now. The itineraries were probably unnecessary but *shrug*
Idk if it'll happen considering the rate of the scioly au that'll only slow down more once the scioly season starts and i've got cyberpatriot starting monday so idk we'll see. It's not like someone else can take this one off my hands though. All the slides for the excursions live comfortably in my google drive and i'd rather not let my mom know that i write fanfic by sharing it with someone and the email notif pops up on her phone. I already almost broke the system by sending a word tracker google sheet to swan i'm not making that mistake again
Idk if this idea makes any sense and i haven't really given it much thought but hey we're suffering together :)
we sure are suffering together in the too-many-fic-ideas department, my dude. we are tired office workers banging our heads against our desks at how much paperwork (ideas) are piling up. but reading through this file was interesting! even if my geography-dunce brain didn't understand some of the specifics super well. (also, you're right, your extensive knowledge on british columbia and alaska makes more sense now.) also, that part about accidentally notifying your mom that you're a fic writer - mood. biiiiig mood.
my only question with this fun idea is whether or not the kotlc kids are going to all these places irl or doing virtual tours like you did. because that definitely changes up how the story plays out. i would say i'd give you ideas if you need them, but you're far more familiar with geography and virtual tours than i am. but i'm here anyway! to listen if you need me to!

So I had some time this morning and wanted to see how truthful the timeline of the vacation is from Tomdayaland. And I was going off of the thoughts of the person yesterday who said the islands are so far away from each other that you would have to fly.
The timeline starts and says that Tom and Zendaya started off in Turks and Caicos. That’s one flight.
The timeline then says they go from Turks and Caicos to Mustique. There are no direct flights to Mustique. You have to fly into either Barbados, St. Lucia, or St. Vincent and then to Mustique. So that’s two flights right there.
They then claim that they are seen around Mustique areas surrounding it. Islands included are: Tobagos Cays and Palm Island.
Tobagos Cays can only be reached by boat. You can either take a water taxi, ferry, or go on a yacht charter.
Palm Island is a private resort and cannot be accessed for a day trip.
Here is some important info. This is where the “local tomdaya” comes into play. She claims that Tobagos Cays is a private island that is home to a marine life sanctuary and that you have to reserve in advance to go. I did not see that when looking up info for this island. Since you can only go to it by boat you have to reserve that ahead of time. The local tomadaya also claimed the island was closed for VIP one week and I also didn’t see that. I did find that again this island is VERY popular. So if they were truly there, we would have seen them.
I mention that both Palm Island and Tobagos Cays were day trips because the local tomdaya answered someone claiming that they were making day trips. This conversation happened on January 22nd (after the guy tweeted about talking to them).
Blog 1: Do you think they are staying at one central location (I’m thinking Mustique) and taking day trips?
Local Tomdaya: They’re most likely doing day trips. Haven’t seen enough talk from Canouan or Palm Island to indicate otherwise. Canouan is another island which apart of Vincy (St. Vincent and the Grenadines) that they may visit.
After this they claim that they go to St. Lucia. Again you have to fly to St. Lucia. Plus St. Lucia is VERY POPULAR. And again no pics. Even the local tomdaya posted one day saying that she just knew someone would have a pic because it was such a popular destination.
From St. Lucia tomdayas claim they were then in Antigua and Barbuba. Again, you would have to fly to get here.
Add in that someone claims to be on a flight with them from LA to Miami, but there was no pics. And then she flew home without being seen.
So in total you have 5 flights for just the Caribbean part of the trip. That’s not including flights she would have taken to take home.
5 flights and no one saw them in the airport or on a plane? Islands where they would have to take a boat transportation and no pictures?
It just doesn’t add up.
Anon you get all the points. I love you for this!

Tumblr media
Active Systems: The National Hurricane Center is issuing advisories on Hurricane Fiona, located just southeast of the Turks and Caicos islands.
Central Subtropical Atlantic: Shower and thunderstorm activity continues to increase in association with an area of low pressure located over the central subtropical Atlantic. Environmental conditions appear marginally favorable for additional development, and a tropical depression is likely to form over the next couple of days before upper-level winds become less conducive later this week. The system should generally move northward or northeastward while remaining over the open waters of central subtropical Atlantic.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...medium...60 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...60 percent.
Central Tropical Atlantic: A tropical wave located several hundred miles east of the Windward Islands is producing a broad area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Gradual development of this system is forecast during the next several days as the system approaches the Windward Islands, and a tropical depression could form toward the latter part of this week or weekend as the system moves into the eastern and central Caribbean sea.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...10 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...40 percent.
