Hahaha okay rant about this amazing fanfic (you probably heard of this one already but still)

So whenever it comes to explaining and writing under my posts I just get lazy but I need to push through this cuz I need to talk

So the fanarts were made for the lmk fanfiction sunbreak, that a lot of you (probably mostly shadowpeach shippers) had read, and it is amazing, I read trough it as fast as my brain let me and as you can see it has pleasantly scratched my brain so much so that I even (attempted) to make fanart for it

Ngl if I wasn't a major pussy I would try to illustrate the whole thing or make covers for each chapter but Im unable to work on something more than 2 hours and I would want those to look good, but good looking art (if I don't mess up) takes 6 hours ughh--- annoying much---

Anyways I'm not good with literature but man is this fix a masterpiece *chefs kiss* its everything its amazing, I was unable to put it down once I started it

Okay i dont think I have the brain capacity to explain how much I worship the writer of this masterpiece @ladygreenfrisbee , so i'm just going to talk about the drawings a tad

So first picture with Red Son and MK its sort of like an au in the fic where the whole lbd plot is somehow nonexistent and after Macaque gets to his sisters domain they settle down and raise the kids together without much of an issue aside from assassinations keep happening and trying not to get in trouble with the heavens

Id like to think that Gongzhu still wouldn't let the court tailors to put any form of red or gold on MKs outfits and only allowed the yellow after when MK was old enough to declare that yellow was his favorite color, but even now she would insist on some form of purple and shadow motives to let others know who the mother is

We also got baby MK and toddler Red Son and sassy LIF and Mac

Third pic with the lion: I don't know what it was or why but I just love general Song so much--- he's a major dickhead but sgvshshsevkdididhr (actually I kinda love all the original characters in this one, from the generals to the old lady in the beginning of the book, (gosh I also wanna draw some scenes from those chapters I loved how Mac and she interacted hshsjsj))

so chapter 34 was probably my favorite so far I re read it about two more times cuz it was amazing to see Macaque being the schemer he is and try to piss of Song lol

Last picture: its a sketch/a wip or whatever (probably not going to finish it but im still putting it there cuz its somewhat decent looking)

Its the part where Wukong remembered of Macaque finally finding him and asking for him to come back to flower fruit mountain.

I tried to make Macaque look more unhinged on this one but since I didn't finish it I dont think its that noticable so fuck that but I also gave him a halo like the saints to symbolise his suffering and what not (thought it looked cool and fitting think whatever you want about it lol)

i love reading about the uncanny because the whole thing of it is everything seems fine, but there's just something that's not quite right, and i love it.

example, once of my favorite characterizations of The Mayor from LMK in fics is in Sunbreak. He looks like a normal human, but his smile is a bit too wide, the skin around it a bit too white because of how strechted it is. He moves a bit too stifly to be considered normal and there's just something not quite right about the way the talks. Sure, he looks human, but there's so many little details about him that makes he look just a bit off. Just enough to make you unsure if he actually is a human or something else.

The King and his Cub By: @theweepingegg : This au is so cute and I love little MK with his Papa~ It's adorable and the humor just has me rolling! Plus the wholesome Father and Son moments + an uncle Macaque?? It's amazing! Literally just melts my heart with every new update.

Cursed Au By: @winterpower98: This Au consumed my life and continues to do so. The drama, the redemption, the growing bond between Wukong Macaque and MK?? I love it alll~ The whole universal set up of this growing Au is so full and wonderful.

Literally, ANY AU that is made by @journey-to-the-au ! This artist just- STEALS all of my attention. They got a lot of different Au's, and so many amazing ideas. There is action and romance and betrayal and platonic love that is so wholesome and sweet and AHHHHH. Taking a long tour through their entire tumblr page is 100% WORTH IT

Very similarly, anything by @rebeltigera! They also have so many different au's that are all AMAZING. Something about their style also- ahhhhh <3 It's so good. I definitely suggest taking a dive into their tumblr too. Their Macaque is honestly probably my favorite version of Macaque!

Forged Faith by @swagginmun Gosh the anxiety but also the pure adoration I have for this particular Au?? Definitely follows a more canon storyline but has one HECK OF A TWIST. The expressions that are done are amazing and I really really can't wait for this one to continue as its current chapter just ended on something INTENSE.

Eclipsed Apprentice by @journeytomonkiekid : I've been following this one for a while. I LOVE IT. There are so many talented people in the LMK community and this comic takes an interesting turn to the canon of LMK. Has some great Oc's and the storyline has me hooked! Lots of drama, and redemption, and so far the character growth is *Chef kiss*

Even Rainfall Has Shadows By @linklefr : Another fancomic that takes it's own path and turn from the LMK canon. Oc's are so cute and I just wanna squeeze them! It's really growing to be its own thing! It's got a lot of talk about self-worth and toxic habits and overall overcoming those that the characters need to grow from, and I can't wait to see where it goes!

FANFICS: (I have way too many. My gosh. And honestly if folks have more recommendations, please put them in the comments! Or if you have a story you wrote yourself I would love to read it!) SunBreak : First LMK fanfic I ever read. It is the rabbit hole that dropped me into loving Macaque and parent Macaque to be more precise~ Goes way off canon and I'm LOVING IT

There May be no such thing as eternity: Possed Wukong- I cannot explain how much possessed Wukong still reaching out to the Macaque and the gang just makes my brain flip~

A Garden Across Our Collar Bone: THIS. Ahhhh- Just bury me with this fanfic in my hand. MK X Red Son and ahhh- Also, ANYTHING this author (PittiedPeaches) writes is GOLD.

Of Blood and Bones: A big inspiration to me and their story is SO GOOD. The angst but also fluff that is slipped in? It's an amazingly sad but wonderful read. And I really love the world-building

Peach Blossoms: I'm a sucker for any Hanahaki disease kind of story and this is everything I wanted and more. This was soooo good and it flowed really well.

Love Team: Ooooh boy this story took me on a roller coaster ride. MY GOSH I never knew what to expect and it always had me on the edge of my seat~

Is this A Monkey-Thing or Dad-Thing?: Any Dad wukong focused fic will just catch my feet and trip me into the pit of the story. Every time. This one is so cute~

Kiss Your Knuckles: This oneshot is soo sooo good! And also horribly tragic. Gosh it just destroyed me! I definitely suggest it!

I like your AU's and wanted to ask what your favorite Monkey Kid AU's are ? would you recommend any comics or fanfics or something ?

Oh I have so many! I leave you the links!

Of them would be of Blood and Bones is a very good story and I really need it to be updated, it's been almost two months since its last update and I really need it, just read it and you'll be hooked believe me, summarizing a little of the story is one where red son and MK are raised by LBD and are full of traumas.

Another one would be stitching a Broken Heart, it's an Au where Macaque is MK's biological mother, she has a sisterhood with PIF and there are traumas, it's already finished until the end of LBD's arc and I'm waiting for it's continuation.

Another one would be a Sunbreak, where macake is revived by you know who found MK's egg and is now raising him as her son, seriously you should watch it in the chapter where Wukong finds out that Macaque is alive and has a son with him it's so damn exciting.

Another one would be Little troop, Au where Wukong finds MK's egg in the middle of his journey.

Another one would be like the inspiration that gave me to make Bai He the heroine of abandoned Prince, it's called The White Bone Kid, it's well organized, it's about the events of the second season, in my opinion, it's really good!

I leave you the version of the special of "a hero is born".

And one that has nothing to do with lmk but I'm still going to recommend it because it's really good, it's by Eldest brother, it's about the Ninja Turtles the rise and the 2012 version, I loved that story, my favorite Ninja Turtles character has always been Rapha, that's not a question, it's Rapha and that's it, and this story gives the traumas and the sentimentality that I love! IT MADE ME CRY!

I have yet to see From Three Thirty to Four and A Garden Across Our Collarbone, but I know I will love it and cry.

if you're a spicy noodles fan (mk and red son) then you MUST read ALL of PittedPeaches' work. They're just... so very good. the way they write red son is better than the show itself ngl!!!

a VERY sweet dad!wukong of monkey!mk is PeaceOfArt's Sunrise Au that is just, so very fluffy and precious. Wukong loves his son so very much and he is trying his best!!!

LadyGreenFrisbee has a whole plethora of fics that are incredible. I've admittedly not read all of them, but favorites of mine are Sunbreak, The Evil Monkey, and A Theatre of Shadows. their ideas are so well thought out and interesting and unique!

Another dad!wukong fic is Is This A Monkey Thing or a Dad Thing? which is a series of instances of mk and wukong bonding and being cute and loving each other so completely. I adore them anon.

Another cute AU fic where wukong and mk are brothers is you, me (and him!) about a teenage wukong raising his infant brother when their shit head parents leave them alone!

Crimson_Owl has TONS of wukong angst too which scratch my brain in all the right ways. that poor monkey, someone please help him 😭

Promise is some good wukong and macaque hurt/comfort as well, where MK gets more hurt at the end of season 2 than in canon and Wukong didn't actually have the fillet removed from his head

The Accidental Son of Sun Wukong is once again GREAT dad!wukong and mk where, wouldn't you know it, wukong accidentally adopts mk

Monkey King's Guide to Physical Contact, or the fic where wukong finally gets the hug he deserves

Wukong and his Path To Recovery is a series of fics where wukong heals, as he deserves

im (not) lovin' it is just. so funny. wukong gets a job at McDonald's to prove something, because of course he does. it makes me die every time I read it

Peach Tea Burns, or the fic where MK suffers so very much and for what??? at least wukong's there to try and save him-

Camping Trip Disaster, or the fic where MK has to deal with two monkeys trying to kill each other on their fun family bonding trip, as usual. alas.

So, since I joined the lmk fandom, I have been obsessed with Macaque's character. He definitely fits the theme of characters my brain goes gaga for.

And, I started reading this fix called Sunbreak on AO3 that has dominated my thoughts. And, one of the things I loved most from there was the whole, Macaque was born from wind thing.

It just makes so much sense to me.

When I couple that with this post:

...And I remember the fact that in ATLA, who has grey eyes?

The airbenders.

And his power, shadows, would be helped a lot by wind magic, really. They both require an ease of flow or something. The way macaque can melt into shade is how I imagine him letting the wind carry him around.

And, Macaque in the air was a pretty picture in s3.

Plus, the six ears also add to that. Look at the shape: smooth, curved, aerodynamic. With a flexibility that allows them to manoeuvre easily. Imagine he was born with them for the purpose of better connecting with the wind.

Like, to hear the smallest of wisps, the most gentle of breezes.

To carry those currents straight into his body to fuel his powers.

Imagine he was born from a storm, the wind harbouring such power as to tear the earth apart, only to produce a being who could do that in its stead. Striking his opponents as lightning strikes the ground. Never in the same place twice. Adapting. Full of mischief like a wind sprite.

And, it also fits the 'Macaque had white fur' theory. White is a colour that we'd expect more from a wind demon.

And, wind is an element related to the moon.

It also makes sense that Macaque and Princess Iron Fan would be close.

It even makes more sense when you relate it to how he behaves. See how he fights: retreating, coming back, taunting, whispering, like a breeze that sweeps through a room to uppend every item on every surface.

Compared to Wukong's indomitable force and strength that supports his birth from stone, Macaque being born from Wind makes SENSE.

...I put this fic and this post together and my brain exploded.

To lifeiscooking I would say macaque can be seen as OOC in sunbreak sometimes but honestly I see it as a result of change in circumstances. Macaque isn't very mean in sunbreak because he hasnt really had a chance to be, he's desperate and more focusing on running away to safety because he's weak , but there's a certain chapter where hes cornered and ... Whoo boy. As was written "He used to be a king’s shadow, his assassin, a general in all but name. Sun Wukong learned cruelty from someone"

He also did something I won't spoil that I completely disgerared because of how the situation gets resolved, but now thinking about it was messed up. You'll definitely know it if you read it

(I feel like I may be hyping things up too much but honestly I love this fic, and the more I get people to read it the happier I'll be) (extra snippet to get you to bite:, "Run, little kitten, run.” He mocks it as the Lantern lets out a gentle chime. “Let that human facade bear fangs and teeth again -you will need them.” Macaque pauses, then he feels his smile soften on his lips. “Be sure to sing sweetly for me, alright?”)

hmm, yeah that checks out! im sure he;s not going to be 100% the macaque from lmk since this is an au taking place before lmk and with different circumstances. but also i Really like the line "Sun Wukong learned cruelty from someone". me when people recognize macaques bastardness <3
