okay I need to know this because I am not that into x men but it is a thing I have been seeing, why no one likes Scott summers? what did he do? what did he not do? was his relationship with jean that bad? questions I want to know but I am too tired to read the comics

its.....COMPLICATED ghfjf i havent read the old comics since i was in HS but BASICALLY jean and scott are basically soulmates in a way , editorial decide to kill Jean off in Dark phoenix saga where she sacrifices herself cause she's so afraid to hurt ppl again because the cosmic space firebird is possessing her and making her kill planets ( m REALLY simplifying) so jean's dead for a couple of yrs i think and scott gets depressed since jean was one of the ppl who understood him the most since their teenage yrs and they've gone through crazy shit together in order to hone their powers and stuff but then this new lady shows up that has red hair and suspiciously looks like jean

Scott freaks and thinks he's seeing shit but it turns out she's not jean(for now) she's a woman named madelyn pryor all in all they start dating,the relationship is actually really sweet and eventually get married, they have more adventures together ect

its also revealed to the viewers that madelyn was a clone of jean by mister sinister who's a dude who's been CREEPLY obsessed with scott's genes and observed/stalked him since his childhood and has made an effort to ruin his life every chance he gets,it was revealed that sinister basically planned mady's meeting with scott so he could study his offsprings ( yes its fucking weird)

they eventually have a son but scott and her are a bit emotionally apart , then editorial decided to bring jean back again(not sure but chris claremont had problems with that since he liked the madscott relationship) there relationship gets a bit rocky but it looks like its gonna be ok

so then scott gets a phone call

which says jean is back to life so he leaves and essentially runs back to see jean , madelyn not knowing the context on WHY he left..... does not take this well....shit happens and madelyn gets brutally injured trying to protect their son, eventually she finds out that scott left to go back to jean which makes her so mad she turns into the goblin queen because of a demon ( with scott's brother dont ask)

i dont remember well but she tries to sacrifice her own kid or whatever and is basically evil for a while something something misogyny she ends up dying not sure if it was jean who killed her but she really did not deserve that

so that's one of them the Second problematic thing was after jean kept dying and coming back to life and eventually coming back to like again for morrison's new x. men run

where scott/jean are basically at their worst in terms of relationship, theyre emotionally disstant and basically looking for comfort outside their partners  and emma and scott have a psychic affair while emma was giving him pseudo therapy which jean discovers (edit: i guess i forgot jean was also kinda going after logan previously before this idk i hate all of this)

LOSER BEHAVIOR

jean is basically tired of scott's shit and tells emma y'all can go at it , i hate this 🙃 its clear that they still love each other but its fractured , i try to erase morrison's x men from my memory but morrison basically ends up killing jean again by wolverine stabbing her and then gets to dark phoenix again only to get killed by magneto/xorn(?) again and she basically gets killed a lot this is the indefinite end for her in a while

even if i like scottemma Morrison clearly did not like jean and basically screwed 3 characters over for bullshit drama it was a MESS

so yea there's a lot of ppl that hate scott because of these personally i like messy men but writers were on some crackshit writing his romances, it doesnt help that he goes heel for a whole decade and kills his mentor/father figure(deserved) other than that scott is usually portrayed as extremely duty devoted in his leadership which was brought by his upbringing , a lot of ppl think logan is cooler because of that and some thought his heel turn was/morally grey era came out of nowhere which really it was one of his most interesting eras

scott got killed eventually and emma got mad as hell and turned heel again,they got reunited recently with scott/emma and jean being alive again i honestly dont know much of what’s happening in current x men other than bits and pieces but theyre basically making up

for non comic readers and newcomers who are surprised that beast would be speaking like that, thats how he has been in the comics for decades now. it makes him all that much better as a character in my opinion. beast is exceptional as a morally grey character doing questionable things
