my personal opinions on byler & mike’s character
most people believe mike is clueless or at least he just suspects will’s feelings. well, sometimes i agree with that but in general i think mike knows. actually he always knew. let’s look at everything from the beginning.
both mike and will always lived in a small town full of homophobia. we know will personally experienced homophobia from his dad and other people in hawkins. mike and will are friends since kindergarten and mike obviously witnessed all of these homophobia will went through. maybe mike experienced it too, we know ted said “see what happens?” for a reason. especially with lonnie, mike witnessed everything he did to will, we all know will shares everything with mike. so from their point of view, this thing called “homosexuality” is something really bad and all it causes is harm and hate. it’s something forbidden.
now let’s see what happened in all seasons. in season 1, a cool girl magically comes into mike’s life and shows interest in him. “you’re blind, because a girl is not grossed out by you” now mike has a chance to be normal like people expect him to be. and he’s a child, it’s not that deep. he can try. no deep feelings, no love, just be normal.
in season 2 this chance is taken away from mike leaving a trauma to him. after all, el was special and he cares for her so much. and the fact that she sacrificed herself just to save him and his friends is not something we can overlook. and adding to this trauma, something really bad is happening to will and they don’t even know what is it and how to fix it. he does his best, he never leaves his side because it’s something a good friend would do right? it wasn’t that forbidden thing the adults get angry about and it shouldn’t be. after el’s return and will being safe, mike had this chance again. el was here, she was incredible, a superhero who saved will and the world, and she was ready to be in a relationship with him. snowball scene was mike telling will “i’m moving on, you should move on too or we will get hurt by this.” because you know, these things always hurt will and nothing else.
in season 3, mike continues to this “moving on” as we can clearly see. this time a little bit grown up, or at least trying to grow up. distancing himself from will and all his friends, focusing on el all the time and for some reason not being able to maintain a friendship with will while dating el. this speaks volumes actually. it’s both him trying to be normal as expected and distancing himself from will to make sure he is normal too. to me that’s all the “it’s not my fault you don’t like girls.” scene. while mike is fighting back, will makes it harder for both of them without realizing it. i think -like everyone- the ending of season 3 was mike realizing it’s not working and it’s getting serious. he’s growing up, they’re growing up and everything is becoming clearer.
will and el moving to california was a new chance for mike. he ignored will, well at least he tried even though it’s clear he felt his absence especially in school, he didn’t reach out to him thinking maybe this is the chance for both of them to move on. and then el’s letter happened. mike thought will really did it, he moved on, he was able to move on while mike isn’t. if we think deeper, he is even working on a painting for her, something he used to do with mike. so yeah, will is normal, it worked for will, while mike is still dealing with this. when they reunite i think it was much more than just jealousy. disappointment, anger maybe? especially after he saw he brought the painting to the airport. apparently will wasn’t planning on giving all his attention to mike, who was visiting him after months, but he was planning to give the painting to the girl he likes, it was probably the reason of his excitement, not mike. so this is what makes mike want to focus on el more and ignore will during rinkomania scenes. when el mentions angela and will gives a reaction to this, mike is sure he was right and this day is about angela for will.
but he finds out he was wrong. well, the painting is still for a girl but at least he was wrong about angela. will was just upset because mike was being lied to, and he was hurt by mike being distant from him. this is what leads mike to sincerely apologize to will, as always. he always does that, if will says “where is dustin right now?” mike realizes his mistake and tries to fix it. if will says “we used to be best friends” mike realizes his mistake and offers to be best friends again. that’s all their dynamic about.
after mike and el’s fight, mike comes and explains what happened to will but it’s more like he is asking for an advice, he wants will to understand him. “it was a fight that you can’t come back from.” he wants will to agree but he doesn’t, this is when we start to understand mike’s inner struggles. he brings up this topic to will three times. none of these conversations are like two best friends giving each other relationship advices because mike never tells will what is the problem. for some reason he doesn’t want will to know he can’t tell her girlfriend that he loves her. we all know will and mike are sincere enough to tell these things to each other, they always do. but if he can’t, there must be a reason. maybe mike himself doesn’t know the answer either, maybe he doesn’t want will to understand his situation because he thinks will successfully moved on, who knows?
in the desert scene, he brings the topic up again, without mentioning what is “that thing”, but this time will seems like he understands. “sometimes, i think it’s just scary to open up like that, to say how you really feel, especially to the people you care about the most.” mike never mentioned he is struggling to say how he feels but will understand, he always did. this conversation would continue with mike opening up to will if it wasn’t interrupted, so mike brings it up once again for the third time, in the van scene.
this time he is being more open but he is still struggling to say one thing, which will completes for him “you’re scared of losing her.” well, mike was wrong. will wasn’t getting it until.. the painting scene. mike is not stupid, he knows will spent days working on it. he knows eleven doesn’t know about what this painting is about. he knows he doesn’t make el feel like “she is not a mistake at all” especially after their fight, remember that line from the script “she’s already beginning to understand she doesn’t need me, i saw it in her eyes” he knows el doesn’t need him, he knows will well enough to understand he is lying. the way he looks at will admiringly is him thinking “he didn’t move on, we’re still the same.” and also him being aware of what will is doing for him, breaking his own heart and sacrificing himself just to make mike feel better. also, he notices will is sobbing, he looks at him and even if he didn’t how could he not? he had tears in his eyes during all the monologue and he was sobbing right next to him. so is there any reason for mike to not say anything to his best friend sobbing next to him if he didn’t know the reason? the mike i know would immediately ask what was wrong if he was clueless. he knows why will is crying but he doesn’t know what to do about it. mike’s situation is pretty sad when you think about it, he probably feels like he’s stuck.
then we have the desert reunion scene. this time we clearly can see how stuck he feels between el and will, he doesn’t know how to get out of this without hurting any of them, and also himself. the way he looks at them looks like also him being afraid of damaging their bond.
then the monologue scene.. this scene may mean lots of different things, i am not sure either.
Tumblr media
it may be mike being aware of what will is doing, how he is sacrificing himself once again, how mike is gonna have to lie and hurt everyone in the end, how the things are gonna be way more complicated or mike realizing he was wrong about thinking will has feelings for him.
my season 5 expectation is seeing a mike wheeler who stops fighting back and embraces his feelings, without hurting both of them.
that’s my point of view that changes almost everyday lol. i don’t know if there are many people who believes mike isn’t clueless so i wanted to share my thoughts. 💛

Thinking of the last paragraph of that previous post:
Catra and Glimmer both have the same great fear, that all their friends will get sick of them, find someone better, and walk away.
But their response to this fear is completely different!
Catra keeps everyone at arms length. After Adora "leaves", Catra is so hurt that she refuses to do any kind of close friendship. She doesn't let Scorpia or Entrapta in. Then, when all of Catra's friends have walked away, she panicks. She wants to cling onto what few connections she has left, but there's still that side of her which refuses to show vulnerability. So she pulls in Lonnie and friends, and lashes back out at them. It's contradictory and painful and Catra doesn't understand it.
Glimmer, meanwhile, holds onto her friends as tightly as possible. She thinks that if she lets them stray far enough, they'll never come back! She likes being in charge of their missions and engagements, she likes being active and having purpose, she loves friendship affirming activities like sleepovers and parties, and to see her friends living their lives without her feels like they have already moved on from her.
This is how she felt at the start of season 4, when Bow and Glimmer were going on adventures and having parties without her, when they weren't letting her be involved in their lives. So Glimmer responded a few ways. First of all, she barged her way back in! She refused to be a passive actor, she wanted to be with her friends. But things didn't return to how they were - they were upset at her, for doing things without talking to them first. So, dejected, Glimmer started pushing them away - it seemed like everything her friends wanted her to do was painful for her, but doing something to validate herself was causing them to be mad. And Glimmer interpreted this, in her mental state, as Adora wanting to be in control. She couldn't see that Adora felt responsible for her mother's death. She rubbed that wound in, several times, without realising it, but once she did she couldn't apologise, because again that would mean admitting fault for all their other interactions, and Glimmer wasn't ready to do that. She was dealing with grief and inadequacy.
Basically Glimmer and Catra had different initial reactions to the same emotion, but eventually they wrapped around to behaving the same way.

In s4, the Byers siblings lie to the wheeler siblings (who they have romantically feelings for) .And both boys incorrectly think lying to mike and nancy - will make the 2 Wheelers happier in the long run (when it does the opposite). And while in Lenora, jonathan & Will lie/distance themselves from the wheelers- which has both Wheelers inadvertently drawn to other love interests because of it. It's alot to unpack😬
Like ...that's a tra*ma response (for the boys). Lonnie would lie for selfish reasons. And now the boys are lying for "selfless" and borderline self-sacrificial reasons. Don't believe me ? ok- let me explain...
For Jonathan
In S1, lonnie claims he wants to help jonathan with college. Joyce calls out the fact lonnie is lying, yelling "dont LIE to me!' And she mentions how she knows he's lying- since he doesn't even know that jonathan's dream school has been NYU (since he was 6). S4 : jonathan lies to nancy, so nancy won't sacrifice her college dreams. And jonathan goes on a rant about how if he doesn't lie- they'd end up like his parents and he'd eventually become just like lonnie. Jonathan: "what was I supposed to do?" Argyle: "Not lie!" Jonathan: "Not lie? Argyle: "yeah! " Jonathan: Not lie?!" He also doesn't even contemplate nyu as an option (despite wanting to go there since he was 6 years old). The only options that were on the table for him were Emerson (for nancy) or lenora (to take care of joyce and Will... since he's been taking care of them ever since lonnie left). Jonathan to argyle: "I can't just leave my mom and brother" (cough like lonnie) . He never thought about himself once. Bruh...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also see jonathan's lie to nancy - makes him distance himself from her to keep the lie up. Which made her insecure about their relationship and start eyeing steve again .
For Will:
In s1 it's mentioned lonnie used to call Will h*mophobic slurs, and that despite living near by- he hadn't visited Will for at least a year. He also insulted Will when jonathan first mentioned he'd went missing. Lonnie only visits Hawkins , so he can lie and pretend he cared about Will (because he wanted to profit off of Will's de*th- for his "debts" ). He lies saying the money from Will's de*th -could be used to help jonathan with college (a lie). Joyce in the same convo , where she says lonnie is lying about jonathan/college, says : " you were here for the money... you never cared about Will! You never did!" . Will in s4: "to say how you really feel to the people you care about the most... what if they don't like the truth." Lonnie lies because he doesn't care. Will lies to mike beacause he does care (despite knowing mike isn't a fan of lying). Will lies to mike about the painting, saying it's from El - because he thinks it'll benefit the people he "cares about most" (his sister El & best friend mike). He lies to fix mike/el's relationship, because he cares for both of them . And because he's "scared" of mike's reaction to the truth.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Will is going against his own moral compass, because he incorrectly believes it'll benefit the people he cares about most. But frankly, I think the lie will back fire, and upset both El and mike when they find out. Because neither El nor mike like lying (but ironically mike lied to el in s3 , and el lied -for months-to mike in s4. And Will's lie may have been the only thing keeping the couple together. )Similar to how jonathan's lie -indirectly brought steve and nancy closer together, again .
so yeah in s5, it could backfire on Will, who usually is honest. Cough foreshadowing-
Will to mike,at the skaterink: "she lied to you- right to your face " (so did you Will, about the painting & your feelings. But also El's feelings as well)
Will to El,at the skaterink: "why do you keep lying to Mike? I just don't think mike's going to like the fact your lying to him. When he finds out he's going to be mad."
Watch mike gets mad in s5. And Will incorrectly assumes mike is mad about Will's romantic feelings. When mike's actually mad about Will lying - and how Will's lie caused mike to confess to El (under false pretenses).
The only way the conflict between the Byers/wheelers can be fixed is if there's honesty (aka jonathan & Will break the relationship pattern they saw from their parents). And nancy/mike stop mirroring their parent's romance with steve/el,but I digress . It's not a coincidence the 2 divorced couples (lonnie/joyce & neil/Billy's mom) literally fight about lying .
Tumblr media
The single lie both jonathan & Will tell this season- isn't adressed at the end of s4. But we see how their lies negatively affect their relationships with the wheelers, because of it. We even see jonathan continue the lie, about college, once reuniting with Nancy. So what will s5 have in store (given all the various themes that touch upon lying, not even mentioned in this post)? I mean "friends don't lie...but boyfriends do".

A beautiful Byler-Polivia parallel, Will's truesight and other parallels with Fringe
I said I could make 50 posts after my rewatch of S4. I'm gonna start with the parallels with one of my favorite shows. Let's go! @lilitblaukatz
Olivia Dunham is Subject 13, and she has the ability to see and travel to the parallel world. In ST there are many mentions of number 13, and imo that's a hint that there are different timelines (not actual parallel worlds) and we've been seen them since the very first episode. In fact, Will mentions the number 13 in the first scene of the show.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Will-Olivia parallels
It was a seven. I read many theories about this moment and Mike's strange reaction. That maybe Will is in a Vecna vision, and that's why the lights flicker and "Mike" doesn't know what he is talking about.
Tumblr media
Well, I think Vecna is spying Will; those eyes on the skis behing Mike! I think this detail proves that Will's abduction wasn't a coincidence.
Tumblr media
But if this Mike is actually Vecna, shouldn't he know about the game and the Demogorgon? He can read minds, wouldn't he at least try to smile?
Then I remembered why this scene seemed familiar. It reminds me of a scene of Fringe, ep 3x15, when Olivia, who can't control her powers yet, travels to the parallel world and for a moment sees the other Dr Bishop, who is quite surprised by what she says.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(in 3x15 Olivia also meets Peter for the first time)
So, I don't know, maybe Will does have a Vecna vision later, at home. But when he talks to Mike, I think he's seeing a Mike from another timeline/or he ended up in another timeline (because the gate just opened?) I don't know. Maybe a timeline where Karen interrupted the campaign earlier, or Will rolled the dice and won. That would explain Mike's confusion, and the flickering lights.
And now I'm thinking about other parallels
The zeppelin and the Rainbowship
The first time Olivia sees the parallel world, she draws this
Tumblr media
What if Will didn't just imagine the Rainbowship, but drew what he SAW, like he drew the vines?
Tumblr media
Nina kinda looks like a little spaceship, so, maybe... I don't believe what Owens said. I think they were already using the silos before El lost her powers.
(EDIT: Spoilers of The First Shadow- Now we know that in 1943, the ship of Brenner's father wound up in Dimension X, during the Philadelphia Experiment, which was connected to the Rainbow Project. So, maybe Will's Rainbowship is a reference to that and a hint at different timelines)
Tumblr media
But back to Olivia and Will. Here she's drawing while the adults are talking about her, and Will is drawing while Joyce and Hopper are talking with Owens, who gives major Walter Bishop vibes, and even has a son named Peter.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Byler and Polivia, the parallel of their first meeting
The Rainbowship is mentioned in the shed scene, the same scene in which Mike reminds Will of the first time they met.
In 3x15 Olivia draws the zeppeling, and in the same episode Peter finds her sketchbook and sees her drawing of the field of white tulips. Her drawings, that are connected to her powers and visions, help him to find her. And this is a beautiful parallel with Will and Mike, because Peter's life changes when she meets Olivia. They talk about her abusive father (in the shed scene Jon mentions Lonnie) and it's after they talk in that field that Peter decides to accept his new family and his new life.
Asking Will to be his friend is the best thing Mike has ever done, and their lives changed too, when they met.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I don't think there are parallel worlds in ST, just different timelines, because for some reason they're stuck in a loop. They mention time loops a few times, and Max even mentions it when they are in Henry's house.
In S2 Nancy tells Murray that his timeline is wrong, and in his letter Hopper says that you can't turn back the clock... But then Henry does it in the flashback. There's also this Back to the future line: The appropriate question is 'When the hell are they?'
Tumblr media
And if there's really a time loop, I think Will and Henry can see other timelines or maybe the timelines are merging? There are so many hints.
From Will's Marty Mcfly outfit in S1, to Henry seeing the Mind Flayer when he was a kid. The crystal ball in the Will the Wise drawing, used by clairvoyants, the Forever Clock that Dustin gives to Will, Will's name engraved on the grandfather clock and him saying, in his Will the Wise outfit, that he's seen into the future. If they're stuck in a time loop, then the future is actually the past, since the story has repeated itself many times. Steve and Robin even mention the whole going back to future/present thing.
In 4x01 El says that they're all time travellers, so yeah, if Olivia can see and travel to a parallel world, maybe in ST people can see (or travel to) different timelines of the timeloop.
Tumblr media
Eleven, Twelve and Thirteen
In the Nina scenes I noticed that Thirteen is often in the frame with El or Twelve (who I think represents Will). At first I didn't understand why. She never speaks or interacts with El. And I didn't know why they cast a girl that looks like young Millie. The actress said that the crew kept telling her that she looked like Millie, and before S4 many fans speculated that she would play El. Everything means something in this show, and the casting is always on point, so I thought maybe they want us to notice something? Then I remembered that Olivia was Subject 13.
So that kid could be a subtle hint that we're seeing different timelines in Nina. From the beginning, when El wakes up and see the rooms of Four and Nine. 4+9=13
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Twelve and Thirteen
Tumblr media
Twelve and Thirteen in the Rainbow Room. It's interesting that in both these scenes they focus on 12, "Will", and 13, who looks like little El, after they show the twins. Willel, twins, and different timelines...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Brenner and Thirteen's room
Tumblr media
Thirteen and Eleven (and Twelve)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really think that Thirteen is a reference to Olivia, and since Olivia can see parallel worlds, maybe this is a hint at the ability to see/travel to other timelines. I already thought that El was seeing different timelines, and that she was actually there, with her mind, but this is a nice detail.
*Another interesting 13 mention. The 13th birthday of a kid named Georgie. George, like George Smith in the play? We know that Will's birthday is important, and since this scene is about his parents, I think this mention is connected to both Will and Henry/Edward
Hm, a bit lost, because of other timelines/a time loop?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, I love Fringe and I love that ST has so many parallels with such a beautiful story.

I would never actually write this because (a) it’s such a bummer in every direction and (b) I think it would be misunderstood in so many ways, but let’s say:
Both Jonathan and Steve get into actual legal trouble for their worst S1 actions. Crucially, neither gets in trouble for the parts of their actions that were harmful to Nancy; Jonathan gets arrested for trespassing because the Harringtons press charges, and Steve and his friends are arrested for vandalism because the movie theater owner pressed charges. Neither event is particularly desired by Nancy; she is/was angry and hurt at both of them, but it’s clear that the law isn’t really there to help her. Her parents aren’t on board, either (Karen mostly out of concern for Nancy, Ted because the whole thing makes him too uncomfortable).
Because Jonathan is poor and unconnected and doesn’t have people who are informed about the law, he’s railroaded into a plea bargain. Nothing over-the-top or anachronistic; more in the way of juvenile hall. Because Steve is rich with well-connected, educated parents and a star athlete to boot, he gets off scot-free (except that his parents are mad at him because they had to pay off the theater owner so he can’t drive the BMW for a month).
Juvie doesn’t teach Jonathan that his actions were wrong any more than he learned just from seeing any other person’s reactions to the photos, because that’s not the point of the carceral system. It’s just another traumatic experience in the life of an already traumatized teenager. Nobody cares about the underlying issues (either the garden-variety sexist entitlement or the psychological effects of isolation and neglect) so nothing is addressed. His sentence also puts a financial strain on Joyce and Will, but the community tacitly approves because the family is disposable and she’s partly to blame for being a bad mother.
Steve, meanwhile, is confirmed in his belief that he was justified in the graffiti, or at least that it was Nancy’s fault for cheating on him and Tommy’s fault for coming up with the plan. All his better instincts are buried under tacit public approval. At school, he has the best reputation of anyone involved. Tommy is regarded as the heavy, Carol is a spiteful bitch, Nicole is a forgettable wannabe who’s dropped from the gang before the legal troubles are even fully resolved, Jonathan is a delinquent pervert, and Nancy is a slut who got everything that was coming to her (including, retroactively, the photos). But Steve is above it all.
Nancy ends up being villainized more than anyone, because public sympathy is with Steve and Jonathan is absent (plus he didn’t have much of a reputation to lose). Even people who are nominally on her side kind of blame her for being foolish or sleeping with anyone in the first place. Meanwhile, Barb is still missing/dead, and she’s totally alone in dealing with that. I think that ultimately she has to go stay with relatives in another town or go to boarding school.
I don’t think Jonathan ever comes back to Hawkins, either. After his release, he lives with Lonnie and finishes high school in Indianapolis. He figures it’ll be easier for Joyce and Will, while Joyce (who was angry with him, but only up to a point) figures it’ll be easier for him. They never really talk about it, though.
Steve gets a new girlfriend. She knows she’s lucky. She also knows to watch her step.

Why Obstagoon? A RaihanxPiers oneshot
I’m experimentimg with a blog series I have planned and RaihanxPiers (not to worry, I still like RaihanxLeon). Raihan just has to know, why is Obstagoon Piers’ ace.
Tumblr media
Vibrating purrs blissfully escaped Obstagoon as Piers scratched behind his ears. After a long day dealing with an Impadimp infestation in Ballonlea and Team Yell’s overstimulating enthusiasm, the poor Dark Type deserved some spoiling.
Raihan had followed them home hoping to either challenge Piers to another battle or to hang out. Or both depending on how Piers was feeling.
Watching Obstagoon rest his head on Piers’ shoulder as he started petting him, curiosity crept in. It was pretty cute how Obstagoon seemed so affectionate with Piers. These Pokémon were feisty and scrappy. Certainly not this social in the wild in Raihan's experience. Yet, Piers’ Obstagoon seemed to love the attention and affection Piers gave him. Like a large bipedal Sylveon.
Piers certainly had a way with Dark Types. They loved him and Raihan was fairly certain that Piers was a Dark Type whisperer. Catching and trusting the Morpeko he caught for Marnie was proof of that. Yet, of all the Dark Types in Galar, Raihan was curious about one specifically for a very specific reason.
“Why Obstagoon?”
Piers’ head tilted. “Hm?”
Raihan got up and approached Piers. “Of all the Dark types in Galar, why is Obstagoon your ace? I always kind of saw you as a Grimmsnarl guy for an added punch against Fighting Types. Maybe even Scrafty.” He shrugged. “Heck, I feel like Toxtricity would be given your a musician and all. But Obstagoon?” Patting Obstagoon’s fur, he watched for possible defensive reactions. “He’s not delicate, but I’m sure it’s not easy battling against Bea or a well trained Lucario.”
Obstagoon snarled, snorting annoyingly. Piers chuckled, patting the Pokémon’s head. Nudging his head Piers silently motioned for Obstagoon to go inside.
“If we’re going off aesthetics, I think Obstagoon fits that perfectly.” Piers stated, opening the door. “And while I appreciate the concern, if you’re worried about his severe Fighting allergy,” he invited Raihan in once Obstagoon got inside and settled in, “we have work arounds for it. Besides, Obstagoon has been with me since I was eight. Ain’t no way I’m leaving him behind.”
“Oh?” Raihan followed Piers to the kitchen as Piers started to prepare dinner. “I assume he was your starter then.”
“More or less… Marnie! You home?!”
A door opened somewhere in the house. “Yeah!” Marnie shouted back.
“Burgers or curry?!”
“Curry! The spicy vegetarian one!”
“Alright!”
He chuckled as Marnie closed her door. He began bringing out ingredients, pots, and utensils while Raihan putz around the kitchen. As the water started warming up, Piers began chopping different a couple different vegetables and measuring out the spices.
“He’s actually the son of my family's Hoenn Linoone, Lonnie. He was a pretty mellow Linoone, and he didn't mind when five to six year old me tried to ride him like a Ponyta.” He chuckled at the memory.
“So you live in Hoenn?”
Piers nodded. “Born and raised until my father got a job in Hammerlocke when I was about eight and we had to move.”
“No kidding.” He glanced over at Obstagoon who was cozily resting on a heavily cushioned bed. “I’m guessing mom was a Galarian Linoone or and Obstagoon? Unless he hatched here and that caused a wonky region swicheroo.”
Piers nodded as he put the noodles in the now boiling water and the veggies in another pot. “We left him at the Daycare in Lilycove while we were on vacation to Alola.” He recalled, starting on the sauce. “During that time ended up getting pretty friendly with a Galarian Linoone named Luna. Didn’t expect it since he typically kept to himself and only really liked the Day Care workers.”
Raihan chuckled. “I’m guessing the owner of the Galarian Linoone wasn’t happy about Luna having an egg.”
“You’d think that but funnily enough, he wasn’t.” Piers set a timer for the pasta and veggies while he had the sauce warming up. He turned around leaning against the counter. “Sydney actually took it with humorous stride. Apparently, Luna was a rescue and he dropped Luna off hoping she could socialize with some other Pokémon while he was working on something for work.” Piers chuckled again. “He got that and then some.”
A spark shot across Raihan’s face as he stood up. “Wait… Sydney? As in Hoenn Elite Four Sydney?”
Piers nodded, scratching the back of his head. “Yeah.”
“That’s so cool.” Closing the gap between them, Raihan’s hands landed on both sides of Piers, holding the edges of the table. “Tell me more.”
Rolling his eyes, Piers groaned. “There isn’t much else to tell, but…”
As his parents continued to profusely apologize to Sydney, Piers wandered off. He knew not to go far, but Lonnie was already handling that as he trotted alongside him. Looking around, Piers was curious about Luna.
She looked so different from Lonnie, yet they were the same Pokémon. Lonnie’s fur was shades of tan while Luna was black and white. Her eyes were red while Lonnie’s were icy blue. And where Lonnie seemed aloft with an indifferent resting face, Luna looked so mischievous with a toothy grin.
Piers started walking towards Luna with Lonnie right beside him. She didn't seem mean despite her impish grin. And if Sydney saved her, she must have been nice.
Luna, who had been resting up until that point, blinked. Fur stood up cautiously as Piers got closer. She might not have seen him as a threat, but she also wasn’t sure if she could trust him yet. She let out a hiss when Piers took a step she didn’t like. This seemed to catch the attention of Sydney, but he didn’t react just yet.
Piers flinched, readjusting his position. Once he was close enough for comfort, he sat in front of Luna. Luna winced, sitting up. Bowing his head, Piers set his hands on the ground, inching one closer to her.
“Hi. I’m Piers.” He greeted. “You’re very pretty. It’s so cool that your fur matches my hair.”
Luna scanned the boy, curiously. Still on edge, she leaned forward a little to sniff him. Piers smiled as Luna sat back down. Her head tilted slightly as his smiled at her.
“I’m sorry if Lonnie was being rude.” Piers playfully tapped his head. “He’s friendly, but can be too friendly sometimes.”
Lonnie rolled his eyes as he stretched across Piers and lied down. Knocking his hand, Lonnie requested attention. Piers caved, petting Lonnie as he watched Luna.
“Can we be friends?” Piers asked.
Luna tilted her head again, considering his inquiry. Standing on all fours, she leaned in closer to Piers, startling him. She paused for a moment before sniffing him again. This time, taking in the aura from Lonnie as she did.
Her clawed paws hopped, sitting on Lonnie as she got a closer look at the boy. Piers’ heart was pounding as he watched Luna motionlessly. One wrong move and he could be toast.
A gasp escaped Piers, which alarmed his parents. However, Sydney stopped them as giggling ensued. Luna’s tail was wagging as Piers hugged her. She was licking him. Lonnie had moved, not wanting to get caught up in the fray. A shadow covered them, causing Luna to back off and curl up next to Piers.
“That was amazing.” Sydney praised, crouching down. “Luna hasn’t really liked anyone since I got her. Not even me most days.”
“She’s very nice.” Piers complemented.
Sydney nodded. “That she is.” He glanced at Luna, who was now contently purring. “You know what?” He went over to the day care couple, coming back with an egg. “I think you should have this?”
“That won’t be necessary, Sydney, sir.” Piers’ father chimed in. “He’s only eight. Too young to be a trainer.”
“If Luna is willing to trust him, I think he can start preparing.” He glanced at Piers. “Besides, you’re going to need Piers to help Luna get adjusted to living with you.” He pat Piers’ head. “And kid, I think you have a great future ahead of you.”
“My parents weren’t thrilled at first, but Luna proved to be a valuable member of the family.” Piers ran a hand through his hair. “She also seemed to be more at peace when we moved to Galar. Especially in her senior years. She probably felt at home.”
Hearing the timer go off, Piers twirled out from Raihan’s trap. As Piers turned off the oven and moved pots around, Raihan grabbed plates. Arms wrapped around Piers as he finished setting up the table.
“That was such a cute story.” Raihan complemented. “You know what I liked most about your story?”
“Hm?”
“When the big bad Flygon steals a kiss.”
“There was no…”
A quick kiss planted itself on Piers’ forehead. A second moved to his cheek. The last on porcelain lips.
“Raihan!” Piers gasped, playfully elbowing Raihan. “You don’t need to be so needy.”
“Hey, you let Obstagoon be affectionate. It’s my turn now.”
Raihan kissed Piers again as Marnie entered the dining room. This time hugging Piers. Marnie just glared at Raihan as her brother turned a shade if rose red.
“Sorry Marnie.” Raihan apologized with a smirk. “Your brother’s such a cute little Linoone that I couldn’t resist.”
She rolled her eyes, though she wouldn’t admit she was actually rather amused. Obstagoon, meanwhile, nudged Raihan with a growl, even less amused by the display. Piers patted Obstagoon’s back as he silently noted that everything was okay, his face still visibly red. And though Obstagoon would yield, Raihan couldn’t help but feel sinister daggers burning into him throughout dinner.

POYW Rewrite V2 - Harry Hook x reader - P15
Tumblr media Tumblr media
=
The villains and their children stared as fireworks soared above Auradon, colorful sparks decorating the skies. Hook deepened his anger in rum, Gaston took his fury out on his house(his twin sons escaping his wrath as soon as he was seen on the block); EQ, Cruella, and Jafar all watched in thinly veiled disgust for their traitorous children-as music blasted and a party overtook Auradon prep-where King Ben was having his coronation party.
Teens danced and cheered as lights flashed, fireworks raining above them-setting the perfect scene for Ben’s coronation party. Speaking of Ben, he was currently being carried by the tourney team around the courtyard, laughing as they jostled him about-his smile brightening as he spotted Mal on the fountain stage next to you and Evie-the three girls laughing and twisting about to the music.
Mal; oh-oh yeah~ oh yeah yeah! Evie; let's set it off! Oh yeah! (y/n); you can make it happen!
All; ohayohay hey!
Ben was thrown onto the stage, twisting around with an almost shy grin, laughing as the students around him bowed-and he took a moment to mess with Chad’s hair-giving the boy a teasing grin as Chad looked at him-almost offended before he smiled, pushing Ben playfully.
Ben; kings and queens it’s our time to rise! Write the book; the story of our lives, this is us, taking back the night!
All; ohayohay!
He turned, seeing Mal making her way towards him and he held out his hand-the other behind his back, grinning as Mal took it and spun herself about to stand on his other side.
Mal; break the spell-we were born this way! Be yourself, forget the DNA! Everybody raise your hands and say~
All; ohayohay, hey!
Evie parted the crowd-stylish and proud as ever, strutting down the makeshift runway and dancing her heart out-grinning as Doug slid in to dance with her.
Evie; sound the alarm, get on your feet! Let’s set it off and rock this beat, dance till your heart is wild and free~
You couldn’t help but laugh/scream as Harry jumped up behind you, taking your hand and dancing you further onto the stage-his tailcoat abandoned-leaving just the waist coat-his sleeves rolled up to his elbows.
(y/n): feeling the power let it all out! Like what you see in the mirror-shout! We got the keys, the kingdoms ours~
You took Evie’s hand as she passed you, twirling her around as Harry laughed, meeting Mal and Ben in the middle and throwing your hands to the skies.
All; let’s set it off! Oh yeah! Start a chain reaction, and never let it stop! Let’s set it off-oh yeah yeah! You can make it happen; with everything you’ve got-let’s set it off!
Harry took your waist, pulling you up and over to his other side, his hands once again finding yours and bringing you close-all while laughing as you sang.
All; get ready, set it off! We bout to set it off! Get ready, set it off! ohayohay, hey!
The boys, Carlos, Gil, and Jay; all spotted Jane sitting alone-away from the party. She didn’t feel like she deserved to be there not after what she had done; not just at the coronation-but to the vks, for being so mean after they had practically welcomed her with open arms.
Carlos and Gil shared a smile and nodded, the three boys walking forward and sitting on each side of Jane, Jay behind them and taking Jane’s shoulders, smiling down at her. She jumped-surprised, her eyes locked onto Gil as he offered his hand, maybe they wouldn’t get back to how they were right away, but they didn’t have to be enemies.
Carlos; it’s time to set this thing off, let’s make it happen now! Gil; Imma make my own future, ignore all the rumors-show em how passion sounds! Carlos/Jay/Gil; they all told me I should back down, judgin’ me cause of my background; thinkin’ bout changin’ my path now-nah I ain’t going out like that now!
Gil grinned as he took Jane up the steps to join the rest of the party, laughing as Lonnie and Audrey came up to Jay and Carlos-whirling the two boys into the party with matching grins.
Audrey; feeling the power let it all out! Lonnie; like what you see in the mirror-shout! Jay; we’ve got the keys the kingdoms ours~! All; ooh, oh,oh! Evie; Whoa-ooh yeah!
The music blasted again, everyone dancing to their heart's content, you and Harry met up with Jane and Gil, laughing as you danced together.
All; let’s set it off! Oh yeah! Start a chain reaction and never let it stop! Let’s set it off! Oh yeah! You can make it happen; with everything you’ve got let’s set it off!
All; get ready, set it off! We bout to set it off! Get ready, set it off! We bout to set it off! Get ready, set it off! We bout to set it off! Get ready, set it off! Three, two, one-
The beat dropped and everyone danced together, Mal and Ben running off somewhere-almost kissing but not, Mal cheekily dodging Ben’s kiss and pushing him away-leaving the rest of you to party.
Mal; ooh-yeah!
Harry twirled you into his arms, your arms automatically going around his neck, smiling at you with that handsome side grin he always used.
Harry; let's set it off, oh yeah~
You grinned back, taking his hands and swinging them about-the party around you almost disappearing as you got lost in each other's eyes.
(y/n)/Harry; start a chain reaction, and never let it stop!
All; let’s set it off! Oh yeah! You can make it happen, with everything you’ve got, let’s set it off! Get ready, set it off! We bout to set it off! Get ready, set it off! We bout to set it off! Everyone turned to face Ben and Mal, bowing to their new king-long may he reign. Fireworks once again exploded in the sky, cutting through the music as everyone cheered and jumped around, Harry took you in his arms and spun you around, laughing into your ear as you scream/laughed.
He was free, free from his father, the isle, and evil expectations. He could be-whatever he wanted now, and with you by his side, he was sure he could do just about anything.
You took his face in your hands, bringing him close enough to press your forehead against his, laughing as his eyes closed and he took a deep breath, his whole body relaxing.
“Thank you,” Harry whispered and you grinned, brushing your thumb against his cheek. “Anything for you, Harry” you whispered back, letting him pull you close again, resting your chin on his shoulder.
You turned your gaze to the reader-who jumped in surprise, not expecting to be addressed-smirking a bit as they did. “you didn’t think this was the end of the story, did you?” you chuckled, winking and then pulling Harry back to dance as everyone cheered and music blasted-marking the beginning of a wonderful story.

I’m halfway through outlining this story whether or not people want it but I raise you Fem! Billy getting pregnant by what she thinks is her boyfriend, Steve but not knowing until she’s in California.
When she invites him to come with her to California because she’s going with the Byer-Hoppers and the Mayfields, he takes it as the ending of their Friend with Benefits agreement which fits since Nancy’s flirting with him a lot more now that she and Jonathan were over. Billy’s obviously heartbroken because of this but she doesn’t dare wallow, instead talking about everything to her mom who recently came back into her life. They move a lot earlier than planned because Billy doesn’t want to see Steve again.
A few weeks after moving, Billy starts getting morning sickness and her worst fear came true. She was about to be a single mother who hadn’t finished college yet. She has a breakdown and is aided by everyone. Her mom suggests she defer her admission for a year since it’s not too late to do so and she proposes to raise the kid as her sister and not her child. Billy doesn’t want to do that though so she agrees to compromise and still have the baby as hers with her grandparents taking a very active role in her upbringing because Billy’s new dad has always wanted kids but couldn’t have them and this is their chance.
Since the Byer-Hoppers live close by and the Mayfields share the house, Billy’s rarely alone and she has a lot of support from the woemn who knew what it was like to be single mothers and from all of the kids who were raised by single parents. Jonathan in particular was very active in helping her, getting close to her and always trying to help out. Will blamed it on the fact that his mom had miscarried their little sister because of Lonnie and Jonathan still blamed himself.
Fast forward to 5 years from now and the kids are already in college and Hopper and Joyce are getting married and they invited a lot of the Hawkins Crew, including Steve and Dustin. Imagine Steve’s surprise when he sees a tiny blonde blur with his eyes go flying past him straight into Max’s arms calling her Auntie Max. She’s followed by Billy who looks even more radiant under the California sun and he does the math in his head. Imagine his reaction when the kid runs straight into Jonathan Byers, calling him daddy. The literal heartbreak of realizing he had a kid he never really knew about and to think he lost everything again to Jonathan Byers.
Cue the emotional talk between Steve and Billy confirming that they did have a child and the immediate relief he feels when he finds out that the whole daddy Jonathan and Mommy Billy is a running gag the kids started that they couldn’t stop. Cue Steve using the wedding rehearsals as a way to get close to Billy all while Jonathan finally dares to make a move on Billy. The kids all have their favorites but they don’t know who Billy will pick. Will it be Steve whom she genuinely loved and had her heart broken by or will it be Jonathan who’s been by her side for the entire ride and never really hinted that he cared for her as more than just friends?

I'm bored so these are changes I would make to stranger things.
S1, honestly nothing, s1 is probably my favorite season. The most I would do is make Steve a more apparent a hole. And keep mlvn platonic.
S2, I would've leaned into the difference of the party more and their struggles. Also I wouldn't have had El live in the cabin. I would've preferred if she was hidden but not from the party and we get to see her adjust to not living in the lab anymore. I would've also preferred to see stancy be platonic and see Steve grow and try to learn to be friends with Nancy and Jonathan. Also more pushback against Steve from party members. Like he used make fun of Mike and Dustin or Smth and they don't like him also show his decline from popularity too.
I also would've leaned in to Lucas and Billy's story where it actually talks about racism and the micro aggressions Lucas faces living in a small town like Hawkins. I also would've had a storyline about the ableism Dustin receives andaybe that could set up the Steve and Dustin friendship where Steve defends him from Carol and tommy. Also have Dustin give Steve pushback from him messing with Dustin before. To actually give Steve more depth and development.
Also I think I would have gotten rid of the possession storyline and just had will dealing with the trauma and aftermath of the upside down and have a Lonnie storyline in there too. Where maybe he's trying to get custody so he can get some of the money that Joyce gets paid by the government. And we see more in depth how awful Lonnie really was to Jonathan and will. Also show Joyce's struggles being branded the town hysterical women and trying to fight her abusive ex husband while also trying to take care of will. It would also show Jonathans neglect/how he's kinda the glass child and how he takes more shift to help pay for stuff. I would still have jancy get together though at some point.
And mike I think show how his family is distant but not really go into it till s3. So s2 is just developing his relationships with El and will.
Keep max the same. And still have El run away to kalis grew.
For Nancy I think I wouldve had her still looking in to more of the stuff about barb and the ud and the government but I think I would get rid of Murray because I think In my changes he doesn't fit.
Also show hopper trying to figure out being a dad again.
S3, i would get rid of the mind flayer and all the Russian stuff. I would've kept vecna but slowly introduced him. Started developing jopper more and show El navigating real normal life and maybe have her go to school. And keep max and El.
Get rid of the mall and keep Robin but have her and Steve meet because she is friends with Nancy or Jonathan so that she is connected more. Or have her have friendships with them after she becomes better friends with Steve.
I would give Mike a storyline where he doesn't feel connected to his family at all. Like you show all the other family dynamics and introduce Erica to show how much more connected the other party's family are. Like have Mike jealous of will and Jonathan and Lucas and Erica because of how close they are but him and Nancy barely talk. It would've been interesting and added depth to his character and show his I love you problem.
I also would've shown more of Max's abusive home life and show how it affects her relationship with Lucas. Like max exhibits toxic behavior to Lucas because shes angry about billy and Neil and she lashes out at Lucas. It could've also had scene where Lucas establishes boundaries and tells her he's doesn't like how she treats him. And have her learn that it's wrong and apologize to Lucas.
I also think for Lucas we could have him join basketball this season and see the party reactions to it. I feel like it would've shown more depth in their friendships.
I think I would've pushed El getting kidnapped by the government this season and replace the hopper fake death with els kidnapping. And have billy be the first vecna victim as another cliff hanger.
I would've kept jancy the same and their argument about classism/poverty vs misogyny in the workplace. Because that argument was really good because they were both right and wrong.
Have El develop familial relationships with Joyce and will and Jonathan because maybe she lives with them for school or something.
I also would show will struggles with being gay and the ud more
S4, instead of Eddie blamed have it be the party because Neil tells the police it was them cause of DND. And have the season be the party on the run and hiding out in town to try and figure out what's going on. Also show max struggling with Billy's death and the mystery.
Have hopper and Joyce be the ones who go to rescue El from the lab. Have Steve Nancy Jonathan and Robin be the ones dealing with Hawkins.
I'm done now. But these are just off the top of my head and aren't explained the best.

I'm finally done. 738 issues in mainline canon, and they're all sorted. My great burden is off my chest.
Except for the roughly 150 issues outside mainline canon, fiftysomething episodes of TV, handful of youtube videos and animated shorts, six movies, and two podcast seasons.
Then I'll be free.
Send help.
Batman: Urban Legends #14
This is, imo, the best take on conspiracy theorist Vic. He's goofy and overdramatic, but he's doing it to get a reaction out of Bruce.
It's short and silly enough that it doesn't get grating.
Choosing to believe that he found out Bruce's identity because Ollie forgot that he can't firstname Bruce in Checkmate meetings.
I Am Batman #11-14
It's really fucked up that Renee's both a cop and the Question, actually! That's not any better than her being a cop! I do not get why this story doesn't see that!
It keeps laying out the reasons that policing is fundamentally broken but then walking it back to go "oh but Renee's a good cop" when she's not! She's not even the mythical Good Cop! The entire reason she's the Question is because she was not a good person on the GCPD and she wasn't able to fix the system!
Renee using her understanding of how the police protect themselves to push back against them is a good idea, and then nope never mind the anarchists are the murderers actually. Cannot believe Lonnie died for this shit.
This handoff sucks so much. Vic and Renee got an entire series to explore what Renee and Hadiyah do in two pages, and while I actually quite like the idea that Hadiyah's a closely guarded enigma with connections to people she really shouldn't know, two pages? Really? The event tie-in is more important? Couldn't have spread this out even a little bit more? Also Renee's motivation sucks but what else is new.
GCPD: The Blue Wall
This wants to be Gotham Central. It's not.
I'm being unfair. There's worse copaganda on the list, and Gotham Central is absolutely copaganda that fails to meaningfully engage with a lot of these elements, but it just keeps circling back to Gotham Central while dodging that Renee knows how she handled policing making her a worse person: she quit, and she started looking for the truth.
Look I have a lot of very complicated feelings about this, but the commentary on a spreadsheet assembly readthrough is not the place to do it.
From a strictly Renee perspective: it hauls her development all the way back to where it was right after Half a Life, has a police officer who's realized he's a bastard working for a corrupt system go evil and kill her brother, and has her acknowledge the futility of reform from the inside but doesn't actually have her quit.
Batman: Urban Legends: #21
I don't know how the hell you can write a comic about Renee's guilt over the lives she ruined while a police officer and the way the police system makes people worse and prevents reform from the inside, then end it by having her decide to become the commissioner. The argument for why that doesn't work is on the page.
I Am Batman #15
What did Dark Crisis even do? I thought the multiverse was already back? If not, the fuck was going on in Lois Lane???
I Am Batman #16-18
NOBODY!!!
I really love Nobody as a name. Extremely in the spirit of the Question for her to see one opportunity for a quip and latch onto it forever.
Yes it makes talking about her prone to devolving into a shitty Who's on First bit but so does Question and I think that's funny.
I like that Hadiyah's out there doing her own mysterious Question-flavored thing. Sure, I wish Renee didn't push the mask onto her, but reinvention after rough origins is kind of the Question's thing. Maybe she'll turn it around, or fade into obscurity until a different author picks her up, or become a recurring side character, or DC'll implode again and she'll get caught in the canon reshuffle. Who knows! Nobody does!
She's got a cool design and a few solid hooks - I'm interested to see if she sticks the landing in the next couple years.
Lazarus Planet: Legends Reborn
I still don't like her being the Question and a cop, but it's less bad when she's using her Question skills to chase a horrifying magic apocalypse monster.
It's solid. Not a fantastic characterization, but this is recognizably Renee as the Question.
Detective Comics #1069
Ram V. Please. Make this pay off. I beg you.
Aside from Renee looking at her Question mask, there's a blonde guy in a blue suit jacket who punches a soldier and then gets his shit wrecked, so maybe that upcoming Tec Question story is actually about how Vic's full of demons.
Detective Comics #1072-1074
Nocturne is worth reading for its own sake, it fucking rules, and this is so promising. Cmon, Renee! You can do it! Get out of the character reversion black hole!
DC's Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun
A good little Halloween-themed Question adventure. She solves a mystery, gets a cape, it's cute and charming. Sort of kiddy but in a good way.
I'd call the art adorable but I think that's the wrong impression. There are some very cute panels, but also some excellent detail work and a great sense of movement. I really like it.
I love that her internal monologue is marked with a hat.
You know what? Things are looking up. It's easy to get depressed about the state of Renee, but it's only actually been about two and a half years in the Bad Zone, and that's... not that bad by DC standards? Sucks to live through, but as far as I can tell there was only one author actively invested in regressing her characterization, everyone else was just going along with that. With Ram V writing for Tec, I'm not enough of a fool to be confident, but I think the odds are decent that the worst has passed.

Happy Birthday singer songwriter Eric Bogle born September 23rd 1944 in Peebles.
His father was a railway Signalman who could play the bagpipes. Bogle started writing poetry when he was eight years old After attending school until he was sixteen, Bogle worked in various trades: labourer, clerk and barman before emigrating to Australia in 1969.
Eric taught himself to play guitar and joined a skiffle and rock band. He was the leader of Eric and the Informers in Scotland. His early influences were Lonnie Donegan, Elvis Presley and Ewan MacColl. He turned to folk music prior to emigrating to Australia – his first written songs concerned his parents. One of these, “Leaving Nancy”, which sang of the day he left home for Australia, being the last time he saw his mother Nancy, was often covered, most notably by The Dubliners and The Fureys. When living in Canberra he joined the local folk music scene and performed occasionally.
Several of his most famous songs tell of the futility or loss of war. Prominent among these is “And The Band Played Waltzing Matilda”, written in 1971. The lyrics recounts the experiences of a member of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (ANZAC) in the Battle of Gallipoli. It has also been interpreted as a reaction to the Vietnam War.
Another of his best-known songs, “No Man’s Land”, is also World War I-themed. This song is commonly known as “The Green Fields of France”, a title it was first given by The Fureys, and which has subsequently been used in many further cover versions. The song refers to the traditional Scottish song “Flowers of the Forest” being played over the grave of a World War I soldier.
Bogle has undertaken an extensive concert tour of the UK (sometimes including appearances in continental Europe as well), every three years since 1985. These tours have usually included a supporting cast of Australian-based singers and musicians.
On 25 January 1987, Eric Bogle was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia, “In recognition of service to the performing arts as a songwriter and singer”
In May 2001 the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA), as part of its 75th Anniversary celebrations, named his song, “And the Band Played Waltzing Matilda”, as one of the Top 30 Australian songs of all time.
He may be unknown to many people but I consider Bogle to be as important figure in world music as other Scottish/Australians, Bon Scott. The Young brothers of AC/DC fame and Colin Hay of Men at Work, and as good as the likes of Dougie MacLean, Dick Gaughan and Brian McNeil in Scotland.

You know what kind of annoys me? Antis oversimplifying and kind of questionable comparisons when it comes to Billy. Saw a post that legit said something like we only go crazy about him because of his ✨ daddy issues ✨ and that just bothers me. He was an abuse victim (mentally and physically) his whole life because of his dad stop making it seem like he has some quirky issues?! And of course Billy did shitty things and his experiences are no EXCUSE but comparing how he turned out to be to other characters in the show who went through similar things is kind of "not comparable" i guess sometimes; like I saw multiple people comparing him to Jonathan and how nice he is (with this I agree I do like Jonathan) and I think that's not really that simple because their stories are literally the opposite of each other: He went through a lot too but Jonathan is able to live with his very loving mother and is free of his abusing father Lonny (and we don't know if Lonny was really as bad as Neil especially when it comes to physical abuse including towards Joyce) while Billy witnessed his mother being hit by his dad, got abused as well and STILL is and has to live with him while his mother who was his hope left him. They're similar but not the same and sadly their abuse experiences manifest differently in their behaviour and we don't know if Jonathan would be the way we know him if Joyce had left him years ago and he would still live with Lonny. It's all a really difficult topic and I'm all for not defending Billy's every actions and as I said there's no excuse for them but explanations and recognizing them and his trauma is important and you can also recognize that he would have nedeed a lot of change to redeem himself fully but that it wasn't impossible: imho both the choice to sacrifice himself and the fact that his last words were an apology were steps in the right direction + he was young and giving him a true chance to grow wouldn't have been wrong and after Starcourt I think that would have been possible. So it just bothers me when people completely downplay his experiences; had to get that off my chest.
YES! It drives me insane because Billy fans recorgnise and a lot of the time see themselves in his behaviour and reaction to abuse. I for one have never had a character relate to my situation so well and I clung/cling to him because of this. We don't excuse his behaviour or even let him get away with it. Most fics have him apologising and making things right with the people he hurt. People react to abuse differently and sometimes it isn't in a nice people pleasing way but instead with anger.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jonathan and Billy mirror each other and I love that because there is direct comparisons in the show to how they turned out. Jonathan got away from that abuse, lived with a mother and brother who loved him and supported him. Billy was stuck with no one to protect him.
Antis cling to this notion that we like Billy because he's attractive which is hilarious because sure he is but a lot of fans are lesbians lmao. I love Billy but he's not my type. We want to see where he could have gone and if you look at s3 clearly he had calmed down and stopped being so angry after settling into Hawkins better. Its such a missed opportunity to explore what abuse can do to people but instead they stick with ignoring it all together.

Jonathan seemed to trust Hop in S1, iirc. Do you think this trust would have vanished if he knew he was dating Joyce? Honest question.
He really didn't though. They had that one moment in the morgue where Jonathan did seem to appreciate him a little more, but as I mentioned in a previous post, he's still in "I'M the protector of my household" mode and wants to be the one protecting Will and Joyce.
If I think about things in order, it's possible he was starting to trust Hopper in the morgue, but the reappearance of Lonnie trying to worm his way back in with Joyce and immediately trying to boss Jonathan around probably just pushes him back into his "I'M the protect of my family" mode. Justifiably so, Lonnie proved to be a huge dick yet again and tried to use Will's "death" as a get rich quick scheme.
As it stands right now in season 4, I kinda don't think he'll have such a negative reaction to Hopper dating Joyce. Like... he "died" for all of them. He has stood there with them for years at this point trying to help. I think at this point even he would acknowledge it's silly of him not to trust Hopper with his family BUT... no one really gets over trust issues that easily do they?
I mean, in season 4, Jonathan is prepared to give up the love of his life AND his future (education on the East coast) because he's so terrified of leaving his family to fend for themselves. With Hopper in the picture now, all of those fears he's been holding onto are no longer justified.
What I'm hoping for is a moment where Joyce and Will insist he should go live life the way HE wants to. I'm also hoping for a moment where Hopper reassures Jonathan that he's got this and for Jonathan to accept it this time. (he rejected Hopper twice in season 1)
Also, the trust issues Jonathan has with Hopper and Bob is not that he thinks they're bad dudes, I think he just wants to avoid his family having to rely on anyone else. When they relied on Lonnie, he screwed them over time and time again (and he was a bad abusive dude). With Bob and Hopper, it's more like "Eh... I don't know how reliable you really are. You could ditch us at any moment. It's better if I just keep the responsibility myself rather than risk it with some random guy."
You could see how that played out with Bob. Joyce was really into him but you can see Jonathan wondering, "would he really stick around when the going got tough?" (I mean, he did try. But oof.)
You could see Jonathan had that opinion of Hopper in season 1 as well. Hopper is a cop, and there are various hints laying around that the cops took multiple visits to the Byers house when Lonnie was still living there and seemingly did nothing to help. Why would Jonathan trust the useless police chief? (even Lonnie says something like that to Jonathan about Hopper specifically). All the seeds of doubt are there.
But now? Hopper has proven he is THAT guy. So like I mentioned above, I really have high hopes for how they handle this in season 5. But... I learned my lesson with season 3 already and it worked out in season 4. Lol. Don't put them TOO high.

‘Cause they put crosses on the doors to try and keep me out
She knew Lonnie would break her heart before it happened. It was a fact of life for her. The same way that she knew that Nancy would break Jonathan’s heart in a few years.
Oh, she knew they would have some wonderful years together but Nancy would always feel as if she would be needed for something higher.
First it was Steve who was King of the Hawkins Highschool who would only change for her. Then it was her Jonathan who was the only one who understood that she couldn’t live the life of her mother. The life of a simple wife. Her Jonathan who shared Nancy‘s pain about the Upside Down and held her up as he put himself down.
Joyce saw the future heartbreak but she didn’t say a word. She knew that nobody would want to hear her words.
It was the same thing everytime.
She remembered the time when she was still friends with Nancy’s father and Steve’s mother. The time when old classmates still interacted with her instead of avoiding her and didn’t call her crazy behind her back.
In her dark moments she saw herself telling Ted that his wife would try to cheat on him if he didn’t change. How Karen would destroy the life of a young boy. Younger even than his daughter.
Saw how she told her old friend Heather that her son Steve would sink in a vortex of solitude and misery with no way out if she and her husband didn’t change their way of lives. How they would find themselves in a future without a son.
At that time she still thought she needed to say something. She thought she still could change something. She didn’t know that she would only get incredulous laughter and anger. That she would lose all her friends till she would slowly be alone with only her family and then even Lonnie left her like she saw it happen in her dreams.
But she still had her sons. She didn’t know that her biggest trial was still in her future.
Years in her future she would look in the eyes of her beloved Will and she would see so much darkness and pain but she would also see survival. That alone gave her hope and the strength to fight.
Even though nobody believed her she fought for him.
When even Jim didn’t believe her she fought for her son.
Till she got him back.
And she will fight for him again and again till she had destroyed this darkness. But till then she must decide what she should do for her own destiny.
Should she finally give up?
Year after year he was at her side.
Years ago she said no and everything changed.
It happened such a long time ago but she still couldn’t forget the scene.
She remembered how they looked at her. She was already in love with Lonnie but he still stood with his best friend at his side and said that he wanted a date with her. She didn’t understand why it happened. They were so different.
She would never forget their faces. How sad Jim looked. The shock on the face of his best friend. Both so different in their reaction.
But as Jim said he understood it she saw the growing anger on the face of the other boy. Kurt Harrington, star quarterback and the king of highschool, and who didn’t seem to understand that someone could have said no to his best friend.
And who said with a voice that she would never forget that she would regret this.
After that day everything changed for her.
Dreams and feelings about people which would tell her the truth. Except nobody believed her.
It took her a long time to understand it. It took her a longer time to regret her decision to say no to Jim Hopper.
Was his best friend the one who gave her this ability? Did he mean this with regret? A power which made her lose so many things but which also helped her to save her son. With it she lived through horrible months but she also survived.
But now?
Years later she still wasn’t sure if she would change the moment. It helped her save Will.
But now she was a different person. Jim was a different man.
Did her feelings change for him or was it another thing she would only do for her sons? Give them a new father, a new sister and more protection in one package?
What was it?
Was this yes also a word that would change forever everything like her no years ago?
She didn’t know.
But she would do it.
She knew that he was always on her side. He always helped her.
So she took this leap and said yes to Hopper’s bid for a date.
And without her knowing her prophecies of doom would finally be heard.

More Will coming out headcanons (continuation of this post):
Max:
“I knew it.”
Nancy:
So Nancy is actually the first person that Mike comes out to, when he confesses to her that he’s in love with Will. (Think of a parellel of s1, where Nancy asks Mike if he likes El, but this time he actually comes clean.) And then I’m imagining Nancy accidentally spots them together, like say they are sitting on Mikes bed as Mike plays his guitar for him, and cue Live Nancy Reaction.
Hopper:
I don’t think Will ever comes out directly to Hopper, rather (similar to what I headcanon for Robin) Hopper remembers what Joyce said about Lonnie calling him slurs and talking about how Will is different from other kids and he kinda puts the pieces together in his head. This leads to a heart-to-heart where Hopper reassures Will that he is not like Lonnie, and tells Will that he is safe and that there is nothing wrong with him. Nothing is explicitly stated out loud, but they both have a silent understanding about what the conversation is really about. There are tears.
Murray:
“I knew it.”
