I feel like there's this weird fanon that parahumans actually have comic book resilience and endurance when most of them explicitly suck and have the physiology of, like, Dude #7.
Most of them aren't even particularly fit, they're literally like "Kevin" who can do 1 kind of weird thing and also smokes 16 packs of cigarettes a day so he can't run faster than a 4 year old.

a good rule of thumb I have is that if I see someone use "critical thinker" as a self descriptor on their social media, they are probably the most close-minded know-it-all imaginable who doesn't know how to accept the possibility that they might be wrong about something

I'm delighted to finally post what I've been working on lately! I've gone on youtube and downloaded a bunch of mp3s of various unstreamable songs then cut them down from the videos into individual songs with proper metadata + album art so you can just download them all in one place and throw them into wherever you play your music. Right now I have various EPs, demos, and singles, but I will be adding unreleased live songs and debut/early/alternative/etc versions of songs later on!
(Also as a fair warning, the early ones sound really rough, but it is what it is)

...... Oh wait a fucking second....
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A civilization based around science and technology. Their main goal is utilizing speedforce. Taking over planets and turning everything into machines. A never ending hunger for power and resources. An Empress, who is probably a hostage, with a convenient metal hat on.....
Holy shit. It's the Thinker.
Tumblr media
I'll bet that fancy hat on the Empress' head is actually the Thinking Cap!!
Tumblr media
And he probably kidnapped Iris for the same reason he got Linda last time! He needs leverage! He's smart enough to learn from his past mistakes and he knows that the speedsters can/will stop him. So he needs some assurance. I bet he went after Iris because she has a connection to everyone. That's probably where he got the twins from as well and he used them to develop his speedforce tech.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Devoe is a living computer. The last time he attacked he turned all of Keystone into a giant machine. Looks familiar, right?
Tumblr media
He was obsessed with getting Wally because of Wally's speed. With Wally's brain the Thinker could process information at light speeds. This would make him unstoppable and he would be able to take over the world in seconds.
BUT! Wally kicked his ass!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Wally's brain moved too fast for the Thinker and Wally essentially shredded his data. They thought he was gone for good... but what if he had a backup in the cap? What if there is still a 'Fraction' of the Thinker left over?
He's learned his lesson this time. The speedforce is too powerful to hook up to him directly but it can still be used as a tool. He can make 'artificial conduits'. Conduits that can't fight back. He can take the 'organic' conduits and use them solely for power. No need to repeat the same mistakes! And using the speedforce as a tool he can slowly but surely turn the entire universe into one giant computer.
It's the Thinker!

Seeing the “cerebrocrustaceans are highly territorial” headcanon slowly start to pick up more steam (albeit with a split as to whether they’re so cliquey and ride-or-die they view everyone who isn’t in their in-group as a potential threat until they’ve made it abundantly clear that they mean no harm or if they despise any sort of group collaboration unless it’s absolutely, positively necessary) makes me wonder if it’s a common stereotype by the galactic audience to view them as being massive pricks to everyone they meet. Like, oh, everyone on Encephalonus-IV hates each other’s guts and they’re incessantly rude to anyone and everyone they come across! They’re so petty and envious they can’t stand the thought of anyone being better at them than anything and delight in the suffering and misfortune of people they don’t like! They fly into murderous rages if a galvan so much as breathes on them, and if they weren’t such cowards, they’d nuke Galvan Prime into oblivion only to immediately start yet another rivalry with some other species for one reason or another!
Hah! Doesn’t help their case that Dr Psychobos became very well known thanks to the super famous superhero Ben 10!
But no yeah with galvans being the cold detached sort of smart, especially with their prevalence in intergalactic relationships (you don’t become the smartest being in not one but multiple galaxies by sitting alone in your room), what comparatively little interaction to the wider galactic sphere cerebrocrustaceans have has more expectations than if the galvans were more subtle in their influence. If you’ve heard how much of an grumpy old man scientist the First Thinker is, especially when you hear about one of his creations striking out against him due to neglect, well you’ve already started to get the picture of an isolated workspace that no one dares interrupt.
So then you come face to face with a snappy cerebrocrustacean scientist who’s rude, direct, and hovering over your shoulder making sure you don’t fuck up, well you won’t really find many cases of neglect when everything you do is under scrutiny. I guess the difference between my headcanon and @ohyeahben10 ‘s headcanon would be if you can endure the territorial… hostility may not be the right word, the fact that you’re in the same space as a cerebrocrustacean at work is already more than what they’d typically give, in my headcanon sphere you could potentially get past that barrier and transition from outgroup to ingroup; I don’t know exactly what’s in ohyeah’s head but I assume given his headcanons she might say that you practically could never get on a cerebrocrustacean’s good side, or at least not as close as an ingroup would suggest-
Either or, it’s gonna leave a bad first impression, and that is how the stereotype for being prickish is so widespread. Potentially, if a notable cerebrocrustacean scientist works intergalactically, the stereotype may narrow to Encephalonus IV having a very dickish social culture.
#ask#anonymous#cerebrocrustacean#encephalonus iv#ben 10#hope i pronouned you right ohyeah (or whatever shorthand name you’d prefer- central or sceathered idk)#but right yeah being territorial sucks for your reputation but it’s probably why scientists aren’t representatives#which might have to bite the bullet and fight against the instinct to be territorial- or at least innately not be as much#then again they’re collectively a rather smart intelligent species so maybe scientists are representatives#i think i like thinking about cerebrocrustaceans (god it’s such a long name)#it’s not going to beat out petrosapiens anytime soon but with galvans in canon getting a lot of focus#imagining what makes cerebrocrustaceans different besides appearance is really neat#i like thinking they’re like cliquey scientists- mostly because aside from medical doctors i don’t see a lot of big science teams in galvan#like it seems to be mostly kept to two either it’s the first thinker and their assistant#or it’s blukic and driba as the technicians (r&d?) of plumber earth base#i mean technically dr psychobos was completely alone in regards to the sciencing part#having malware hunt for the omnitrix schematics and have khyber literally hunt the omnitrix wielder#but like i don’t think i can base all cerebrocrustaceans after dr psychobos#because well i don’t think everyone on ecephalonis iv hates galvans- djw even said they don’t have a rivalry#but it’s fun i like cerebrocrustaceans (god is there anyway to shorten the name)

s/o to dark and daisuke for deconstructing so much of their potential for antagonism too tbh. their extremely weird moral alignment always isolates them between good/evil parties and that's meta. they steal but they don't kill, they don't care who they selfishly steal from but still have other selfless, protective reasons for the theft. that's how it's supposed to be for them both, but also rather than fill themselves up with bitterness or anger as is the motivation for a lot of stereotypical villains, they'll always be the sorts to make note of and appreciate even the smallest intimacies and kindnesses instead. because they're so isolated and they want something beyond it, they're likewise always trying for connection. there are some characters that are swift to develop grudges and a vengeance that immediately squares them against the world and brings them enemies, and sure dark especially can be habitually petty or apathetic, but even then as long as he's with daisuke, then they're both the sorts to pay immense gratitude to those who accept and assist rather than linger obsessively over people who've hurt them.

The weird thing about turning 20 while you babysit in your freetime and you look at your favorite characters when you were young and realizing how many of them are preteens and teenagers who were 17 at most, and going from, "Omg, that's so cool, I wish I could be like them," to where, "Where are your parents? Where are any responsible adults here?! You guys are BABIES, what the hell?!

do i post my long explanation of empathy vs sympathy re: roman tonight or is that just excessive
#like warning it is Long. will cut it down some bc i wrote it in a mad frenzy at 3 am in my notes app last night but still#tl;dr: roman is intensely empathetic and entirely devoid of sympathy. the seemingly contradictory displays of compassion vs disregard/#cruelty are not contradictory at all and make complete sense if you understand the actual definitions of empathy and sympathy. i’d argue#that while rome’s capacity for empathy stands out in a show a#of people who are not prone to empathy his complete and total void of sympathy is much more unique in terms of humanity at large. it’s just#a show filled w cruel people so it’s less noticeable that the forms of cruelty he displays are rooted in empathy/lack of sympathy rather#than sympathy/lack of empathy like kendall and shiv (and just most people more generally)#sympathy is predicated upon difference distance and logical dissection of emotion while empathy is rooted in identification intimacy and#visceral experiences of emotion#you guys just literally do not know what these words mean. but that’s fine ! most people do not ! they are frequently confused and conflated#! that just doesn’t mean they SHOULD be. so . maybe i can help w that#also for further reading edmund burke is an absolutely fascinating figure to read esp his writings on british imperialism#although the term he uses is sympathy mehta & other later thinkers who have talked ab him have concluded that his cosmopolitanism of#sentiments/sympathy is much more like the modern definition of empathy (the words have shifted meaning slightly over the course of history)#or rather that the sentiment is empathy but the push to action is sympathy and combining together u get the cosmo. of sentiments#but basically burke is the founder of modern conservative thought basically. he is also the only british thinker who at the time of british#occupation of india actually spoke out against imperialism. this is because he viewed others not from a lens of sympathy/pity (feeling bad#for their plight) but empathy (identifying with their circumstances and placing himself within them)#love burke bc i find it so fascinating how someone i disagree with so frequently also holds a mindset that i value greatly and is anti-#imperialism despite everything else about him#kind of like rome in that sense. except rome’s sense of empathy is slightly broken because a) he doesn’t have any sympathy to supplement it#with and b) his visceral/emotion/gut instinct leading way of viewing the world + the way obscene wealth makes the rest of reality feel#fungible = inability to feel anything towards that which he does not identify#and unlike burke rome is too skewed by wealth and his upbringing to see resemblance in the masses and empathize w them#the other sibs function using sympathy and feel bad for the poor without having to relate to or understand them#but roman doesn’t do sympathy. he doesn’t feel FOR people he feels what people are feeling instead#but only so long as they’re seen as people. sympathy requires hierarchy so not viewing others as ppl v much allows for sympathy.#empathy requires some level of perceived horizontality so rome cannot empathize w that which is not horizontal to him#me: should i post this long thing? also me: posts another long thing in the tags that’s a long short summary of the much longer actual post#anyways. ahem. back to work

Feel like face blindness is underestimated as a thing that Completely Fucks Up your ability to socialise and make friends, especially when its combined with time blindness.
Want friends but cant recognise people and have no idea when you last talked to someone?
The only way you can do that is to be in a situation where the same people show up in the same place at the same time, or/AND where said people approach you first and frequently enough to where you can figure out a way to find them that doesnt involve needing to know what they look like.
Oh, you already did that? Well now you have to actually remember they exist and contact them. Regularly. And pretend you care. You wish you did.
Even worse if you're depressed or otherwise emotionally suppressed naturally or otherwise. As a lot of autistic people are. Its not at all surprising no one makes an effort to hang out with someone who never recognises them, never contacts them, and if they do has nothing they want to say and has no response to anything you do or say, and shows no sign they even like you at all.
But people are still really cool. Wish my brain actually wanted anything to do with them sometimes. Would be nice.
