Thanks so much for playing along! Ima be real with you 2 out of the 4 questions you asked really opened up a can of worms for me, and I’m so sorry. I put the less stressful ones first, and the other two are under the cut! Anyway, these were super fun to answer, but plz don’t hate me for it!! 😂😂

3. Have you ever unfollowed someone over a fandom opinion?

lmao yeah. It’s petty, but honestly, people’s personal morals really bleed through into their fandom opinions, and I’m not willing to put up with any unnecessary hate, especially in environments that are supposed to be fun. I’ve even blocked a few people. In the ppg fandom specifically, I’ve blocked a person who, I guess, thought it was necessary to try to gate-keep with racist/sexist/etc. terminology and ideologies, and I truly don’t have time for that 🤷‍♀️ (a lot of people probs know who I’m vaguing, but if you don’t, you’re lucky)

I can’t say I’ve ever unfollowed anyone for any innocent/not-in-conflict-with-my-morals fandom opinions. Usually, if I don’t agree with something, I just keep scrolling because lol whatever. Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion.

but ngl I have unfollowed people who just get annoying 😬😬 lol

6. Has fandom ever made you enjoy a pairing you previously hated?*

I went into this fandom without having too many preferences, so I didn’t have a pairing that I’ve previously hated!

I guess I could say that while I never really hated them, the color-mixing and color-clashing ships weren’t ever on my radar until I came across the fandom content. Now, I really like them! Particularly, Brick and Bubbles!

1. What OTPs in your fandom(s) do you just not get?*

Before anyone gets pissed off at me, before you get into my answer for this question, I’d like to really stress that you’ve got to go into it with absolutely zero fanon context. Like, erase all your headcanons from your mind. I’m dead serious. Because I literally DO NOT get why ANY rrbxppg ship would realistically work ever.

Okay, canonically, these six little funky science experiments were dead set on ending each other. The boys were absolutely horrible to the girls. And the girls literally KILL the boys. I know in fairytale romances, nothing stops love, but bruh, it’s hard to come back from murder 😂 And yeah, I know Clipsville showed the girls and the boys together as older teenagers, and they weren’t trying to kill each other, but that was an obvious gag. In the documentary, it was revealed that that particular “clip” was made because a bunch of people wanted the boys and girls to interact again, and CN gave into the demand. (also, lol I know it super embarrassing, but I did watch the documentary. I just really like Craig McCracken) I just don’t think that realistically a canon pairing between the two sets of triplets would ever be considered a healthy relationship.

Also, ethically, I just—okay listen, I go back and forth with this allllll the time, but the ppgxrrb ships make me confront the “Would I sleep with my clone?” question way too often. Depending on my self-esteem, the answer changes each time. Like sometimes I’m like fuck yeah I would! Other times I’m like, ew, no, I’d have to consider my clone as a twin! I know counterparts aren’t technically clones, BUT the boys really do come across as identical to the girls in the show. The only difference really is their moral alignment (I’m nixing any gender argument). So, I’m like, omg, can I honestly pair these six together in any way??? Are they too close to each other genetically in some sense for this to be morally right??? Like if you ship Brick and Buttercup together, would that just essentially be shipping Brick and Butch/Blossom and Buttercup together in some messed up way??? Is Brick just Blossom, and Blossom just Brick?? Is it better just to ship color-matching instead of mixing???

On top of all of that, wouldn’t the boys and girls be pseudo cousins since Mojo was the Professor’s lab monkey? Technically, in canon, Mojo ends up being both sets of triplets “creator,” so could the rrb and the ppg be considered siblings of some sort? Some of you are probably like, wow, calm down. Stop thinking about it. They’re science experiments. It’s not so deep. Which I get, but I can’t stop, so let me hit you with something ten times worse: should the girls (or the boys) actually be considered biological siblings? Does sugar, spice, and everything nice make you genetically related? Nothing put in the stirring pot was organic—just a bunch of chemicals. If you ship the boys and girls together this could be a good thing! BUT, but, could some sick fuck use this information to somehow justify shipping siblings (ppgxppg or rrbxrrb) together??? This is a literal nightmare to think about!!

All in all, I can’t think about these pairings too much without getting caught up in the logistics of their existence even if they’re fictional lmaoooo! If it wasn’t for the fandom, I wouldn’t ship them together at all. I just think it’s amazing that the ships took off like they did lol, because their literal (fictional) existence is just one giant mind fuck for me. Anyway, I ship them at the end of the day, but tbh I do it with a bit of a guilty conscience. Is it morally correct to ship clone-like counterparts? Or should counterparts be treated like twins? Does it even fucking matter at the end of the day, it’s just fiction? I don’t know the right answer. But I do know the pairings don’t make sense.

Aside from the ppgxrrb, I don’t think there are many other BIG fandom wide pairings. Still, I just want to say that I don’t get why people ship Ace and Buttercup together. The pairing sounds off a few major alarms in my head for obvious reasons. There’s also a bunch of crack ships that involve crossovers with other cartoons. Generally, I don’t mind them, but it seems popular to ship Aku (from Samurai Jack) and Blossom together. And I’m real sorry to those devoted shippers, but again I do NOT get it. I see a lot of romantic fan art depicting romantic situations with Blossom still drawn as a child, and like I get Aku is an immortal demon, so “age is just a number,” but again, BIG ALARMS go off in my head.

5. Has fandom ever ruined a pairing for you?*

🙃 🙃 Kind of don’t want to answer this, but I will anyway because only a few people actually read my blog lolol, so lol, yep! And it’s the reds. Don’t shoot me lol. When I was in middle school, I got into this fandom, forgot about it, and then came back when I was hit by a round of nostalgia. I’m finishing up college now, and I can confidentially say that the fanon content for the reds hasn’t changed one bit. Or the demand for it.

I tended to find that a lot of red content follows many archetypes that I’m just not into. Their stories can get a real cringey, real fast. Blossom is always written like this “perfect, except she’s not (but she really is)” character. Like she’s the girl you WISH you could be, but she’s also going through a shit ton of stuff that no person IRL would be able to handle without having a mental breakdown. And sometimes, in some stories, Blossom does have a mental breakdown, but in a sexy way, so she’s still perfect. Generally, there’s still something problematic about Blossom that makes it easy for a reader to relate to her on some level, unlike the way people write Bubbles. And then there’s Brick, who’s broody, hyper-possessive or jealous, and hot figuratively and literally (gotta love the fire/ice trope). He’s the only boy—no! Wait!—the only person who could ever possibly outwit Blossom, and he is just so undeniably attracted to Blossom. They’re the smart power couple that should honestly just hook-up in Chapter One to save everybody time, but they don’t. Nah, they’ve got to survive at least two love triangles before they even consider admitting they’re attracted to each other.

And don’t get me wrong, none of that’s bad, but there are a million fanfics that go through the same song and dance with these two. And it’s kind of easy to tell when someone’s hardcore projecting onto Blossom because the type of person they’re personally attracted to is the way they write Brick. And I’m not knocking anyone self-projecting onto characters, sometimes people got to do that to give themselves a fun mental break, but bro, I don’t want to read about it. For one, smart broody assholes aren’t my type. Maybe when I was in middle school, but not anymore. And two, it’s just not interesting to me, which is a real shame since the reds are a majority of the fanon content.

Maybe if I found more red stories where the plot isn’t character-driven but plot-driven, so I see the romance between these two characters in a context where it’s not the main focus of the story, it would solve my issue with the pairing. I haven’t found many fics like that, though.

I can’t really think of any reds fic where I’m like ey, this aint bad unless it has a “major character death” tag attached to it lmao (which are always plot driven stories). However, in all honesty, since I’ve stayed away from red content for a while now, I don’t know the current state of things. Maybe there’s been a load more development for these two, or people have broken away from the same plotlines, but I’m too busy to check. I do browse people’s fic rec lists from time to time, but it sort of feels like everyone just puts the same fics on their lists and moves on.

And before someone’s like, “well, you can say all this about the greens or the blues,” just know I’m fully aware. The greens make me cringe too because there’s a shit ton of possessive and abusive storylines filling their story tags. And what makes me super uncomfortable is how people make Buttercup hit Butch or call him derogatory names, oftentimes unprompted. I don’t know why people make Buttercup such an unlikeable and overly aggressive person. I also don’t get why they make Butch some perverted idiot, but to each their own, I guess? Still, I see these green-character patterns most often in red-focused stories, which is another reason why I avoid them. I’ve found a lot of green-focused content that strays from the abusive tropes I try to avoid. Considerably less than I’d like, but the greens are typically the b-plot pairing, so that’s to be expected. Personally, I’d really like to see more content with the greens finding some kind of inner peace, and recently, I’ve seen a few fics that have tried to tackle this concept.

And lol, if you’ve read some of my posts before, you already know that I think the blues are an underdeveloped fanon pairing. The fandom can’t ruin that pairing for me because it never does anything substantial with it.

Anyway, at the end of the day, I’m just personally not into the way the reds are popularly written, but I get why people are and that’s good with me.

You know how the vast majority of us in the classic PPG fandom absolutely despised the segment of “Moral Decay,” and like to pretend it never happened, which is thankfully what the writers of the show did by never mentioning or referencing that awful segment ever again afterwards because the writers of it made both Buttercup and her entire family come across as very uncharacteristically stupid and unsympathetic in their desperation to turn Buttercup into the villain that everyone else was completely against, so they could push the moral that “greed is bad” in a harsh and cheaply shocking way?

Well, I actually just read issue #5 of the classic PPG DC comic books called “Holy Molar” that actually did the whole tooth fairy storyline a lot better because the writers of it didn’t turn any of the girls into villains to push a moral in the story. Instead, Mojo Jojo is actually the villain when he disguises himself as the Tooth Fairy to trick Bubbles to steal one of her teeth foe his own evil purposes after Buttercup accidentally knocked out one of her teeth when they were playing catch by his lair, which he spied them doing.

The whole story starts with Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup playing catch outside of Mojo’s lair. Bubbles gets distracted by a cute kitty cat, and the ball Buttercup threw for her to catch ends up smacking her right in the face by accident. Then, the girls realize that Buttercup accidentally knocked one of Bubbles’ teeth loose when the ball she threw hit her in the face after Bubbles spits it out.

There’s even a funny little joke where Buttercup grabs a hammer to try to smash out her own teeth to get money from the Tooth Fairy, but Professor Utonium catches her and stops her before she can go through with it because he doesn’t want her to hurt herself. It’s still way more cute, funny, and in-character than it was in “Moral Decay” when Buttercup suddenly did a complete personality switch, started deliberately abusing Bubbles with a sadistic grin on her face out of nowhere to try to smash out her teeth for profit, then began smashing the teeth out of innocent villains in the dead of night for profit in the same sort of manner, and the Professor came across as very uncharacteristically indifferent in regards to one of his kids getting hurt as comeuppance for their crimes and shady behavior that the writers made him too stupid to take notice of and put a stop to before it was too late.

I thought I’d show this to @umbramagna777 , @bubblesbenson, @umbramagnareviews, @icanbehardcore, @beecried-stuff, @buttercupishot, @buttercupistough, @lisathefan, @bananaaaasay, @kawaiisteffu, @sponfawn, @angeliclynx, @acedcop-lover, and @lunautonium, because I know you guys didn’t like“Moral Decay” either. The classic PPG cartoon was generally a pretty great show, but the writers were pretty mixed when it came to writing stories in which an Aesop was the main focus for one of the main characters. At best, we would get pretty well-executed morals that sacrificed little to none of what normally made the characters intelligent and/or sympathetic otherwise in episodes like “Boogie Frights,” “The Mane Event,” “Power-Noia,” “Super Zeroes,” “All Chalked Up,” “Beat Your Greens,” “Ice Sore,” “Paste Makes Waste,” or even “Ploys R’ Us.” At worst, we would get very poorly executed morals that got too needlessly and uncharacteristically hypocritical, mean-spirited, stupid, and/or warped for comfort by relying on unnecessary twists and character derailment for in storytelling and shock value in episodes like “Daylight Savings,” “Fallen Arches,” “Hot Air Buffoon,” “Moral Decay,” “Cover Up,” “Three Girls and a Monster,” “Slave The Day,” “Girls Gone Mild,” “Toast of The Town,” and “Sun Scream.”

But I do know that “Moral Decay” is pretty widely hated by the majority of this fandom for good reason, so I thought I’d post some screen shots of the PPG comic book issue that actually did a tooth fairy story much better than the writers on the show.

Blue with Envy

Pairing: Bubbles x Boomer (Boomubbles)

Fandom: PPG

So this is my first fic for the blues, which is really weird to think about. I haven’t written a solo fic for them, at least I don't think I have so I hope y'all like it. im terrible at fluff but here we are :)

“Alright, look I don't want any problems, just put the money in the bag.” Boomer demanded and he smirked when he saw the cash drawer open and the gas station attendant held the money with shaky hands.

He never thought that he would still be doing crime at seventeen but yet here he was, listening to Bricks demands and going out in the cold early in the morning just for chump change.

Boomer heard the sliding doors open behind him and whipped his head towards the door as he kept his glowing fist at the man. He saw nothing but the door starting to close and he furrowed his brows.

“When will you learn?” He let out a yell as he saw Bubbles sitting in front of him on the counter. She looked positively board and he watched as the man with the money dropped the cash bag and ran to the employees only door.

“Fucking hell, what do you want?” He sneered.

She rolled her eyes and placed her foot on his chest before kicking him with a strong force and causing him to fall into the postcard rack behind him. Of course the blow wasn’t even bad but he was annoyed she got that out of him. He jumped to his feet quickly, ready to start a fight and have this place go up in a blue light.

He tried to come closer but she held her hand up signaling for him to stop.

“You know you’re better than that.” Bubbles mumbled. “You’ve always been better.” Her voice just above a whisper.

His voice got caught in his throat as she put the money back into the register, causally ignoring him. He should have flown and kept the cash so that his brothers wouldn’t rip him a new one but he was frozen in place.

She looked tired. But in a way that she was hanging on by a single thread. There was this undeniable sadness that had washed away any part of joy and laughter. The girl he saw hours ago was not the same now, at least he thought. Her baby blue eyes were laced with heavy bags underneath them and even her face lost that angelic glow she constantly had.

“Yeah right.” He spat. He didn’t have to listen to her lies, even if she did sound genuine.

Bubbles looked around the store and noticed that they were the only ones around before picking up the fallen postcard rack. “You know Boomer, I’ve always been slightly envious of you.” She said.

His eyes widened as she kept placing the cards back.

“Envious of what?” He asked and his palm tightened to a fist.

She let out a small laugh. “How carefree you get to be. Super villains, well I don’t think you are one at least, they get to live peacefully. The only torment they receive is constantly being overshadowed and beaten by sunshine’s and rainbows.”

He scoffed and scraped is foot on the group before snatching a lollipop and shoving it into his mouth. He glared at her when she finally stood up and leaned against the counter. “Not always beaten by little girls.”

“Of course not.” She giggled and this time he could see the soft glow in her eyes. “Then again, we aren’t little anymore.” She shrugged.

“Now what?” Boomer questioned. “You got me, gonna take my ass to jail?”

Bubbles thought for a moment and shook her head. It was a little odd to see her blonde curls not up in the infamous ponytails but instead hanging loose on her shoulders.

“I don’t think so. I don’t see a reason to.”

He raised a brow. “But I broke in and-”

“I can send you ass to jail.”

“No! Thats not-I’m just wondering on your reasoning.”

Bubbles walked back to the counter and plopped onto it before taking a lollipop for herself. “Do you ever get tired?”

“Tired?”

“Tired of being like this?”

“Like what?” Boomer asked and when he looked at her, she was staring at her hands. “Oh, like that.” he frowned.

Maybe it would be easier. Actually, it would be easier to not have these powers at times. He wouldn’t have to deal with the power struggle of good and evil or how he lived in his brothers shadows. he wouldn’t have to deal with mixed emotions about his purpose. But then again, he wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for the chemical X.

“Sometimes I guess. Why do you?” Boomer questioned.

She fell silent for a second. “Sometimes.” Of course they felt the same, they were counterparts through and through, maybe she struggled with the same fears as he did? But he didn’t think he should ask.

He looked at the time on his phone and saw that four am was coming up. He should get going. “Well its been really...something.” He spoke and pushed off the counter. “I guess I’ll see ya or not.”

He began walking away, the cash register looked like it was untouched and the store was perfectly in place. He threw his lollipop stick in the trash and the double sliding doors opened to the cool air.

“Boomer?” He stopped in his tracks and looked at her. She was still on the counter, eyes towards the lights. “I wasn’t lying when I said I was envious of you.”

“Miss perfect is envious of a street rat?” He sounded disgusted with himself but when she met his eyes, she had an expression of pain as if his comment hurt her as well.

Bubbles now joined him at the front. He never noticed how he was only an inch or two taller than her. Their eyes slightly unleveled but he could hear their heart beats go in sync.

“But you get to be imperfect and do as you please. I think you have a lot more to you than you realize.” She sighed and reached into her pocket before handing him twenty dollars. “It’s all I have on me but I think it’s better than taking something from a family that means well. If anything, go for corrupt places or even the Morbucks.” She passed him and walked under the moonlight.

Boomer looked at the crumpled up bill in his hand. He didn’t understand why she did that, she didn’t have to. He was a super villain..well, bad guy so to speak. And yet, someone who he has hated, maybe not hated, cared about his well being and could have easily left him in the dust.

“Bubbles?” He called after her, not realizing she was already in the air. He jumped and floated up to her, meeting her eyes and she looked at him with wide eyes and pink cheeks.

“Yeah?”

He bit his lip and ran a hand through his hair. He suddenly became very nervous. “Do you think maybe, we could, uhh, be friends?”

She blinked those baby blue eyes at him. He thought she was going to reject him. Spit on him or even punch him to the other side of town, the way rivals do. But instead she took his hand and gave him a smile that suddenly warmed his heart.

“I would like that a lot.” She said. “I’ll see you later Boomer.”

He offered a small smile but then let out a gasp as her lips touched his cheek quickly and when he opened his eyes, the bright blue streak was across the sky. His heart rate picked up and he found himself reaching up and touching the place her lips were just at.

He didn’t truly know how to feel but in that moment there was a smile on his face and he felt calm and as if the world started to make a little more sense.

Fanfic Year in Review 2020

goodness me, this got buries in my notes-

long post so here’s more under the cut:

1) List of fics completed this year in the order they were finished:

whew, there’s not much to name but i plan to change that ;D as of right now, i only have two fics up, and they’re both PPGxRRB:

Freeze and Thaw - inspired by one of my favorite Russian movies, Led. Modern AU Reds (FigureSkater!Blossom x HockeyPlayer!Brick), Greens (Musician AU Buttercup x Butch) and Blues. super long, at this point i’m considering going back and merging some chapters together after i finish it since they’re awkwardly short.

(also d. do people still use X!y to show it’s an AU. i’m mentally stuck in 2012 sorry if it’s confusing)

Bloody Words - Castle AU Reds oneshot, with Brick as Castle and Blossom as Beckett. i might go back and rewrite it since i’m not completely happy with how it turned out (i was on a time crunch between exams and just wanted it done)

2) Number of words written: 122102, all i have to say is Holy Crap That’s More Than I Expected

3) Your most popular fic: Freeze and Thaw. i didn’t expect it to get as popular as it had, it surprises me to this day ;//////;

4) Your personal fav: Freeze and Thaw, it got me connected to the PPG fandom and made me come out of my shell as a writer. thirteen year old me could never

5) Your fav scene: ... remains to be written. hint: it’s toward the end of Freeze and Thaw

6) A fic or scene that challenged you:

so far, the most challenging was chapter 30 of FaT: Lunch With The Scotts. i wanted to show a genuine connection between Blossom and Joseph without it seeming forced, or playing the pity card on physical disability. having dealt with ableist people in the past, i didn’t want to make it seem like i’m pandering to their views, but it’s difficult when you’re basing a fic off a movie that’s based on a true story. my main goal at the start was to retell Led through the lens of Reds, while also exploring it through Blossom’s personality.

7) A line of writing you’re proud of:

remains to be written, but just as a sneak-peek into one of the future chapters:

“I don’t want your second-hand love! Either love me or leave me alone!”

8) A comment that touched you:

every comment i receive spurs me on to keep writing, i especially like the ones that seem like a live reaction to the chapter part by part (lookin’ at you, @bananaaaasay <333)

one in particular comes to mind, however. i’m a sucker for psychological analysis of characters, so when i saw this comment i all but melted:

oh. my. GOD. theres... so much to unpack. blossom actually feeling like she could trust joseph right away and crying? blossom feeling sad that brick doesnt trust her? joseph and brick both playing hockey? then having a problem with one of their teammates causing them to leave for extended periods of time? brick's reluctancy for leaving after blossom can walk again? dan saying that brick can ask for help because theyre FAMILY? and finally, “Because I know that if someone let me cry about it back then, I would have cried, too.” thank you for the update, ill cry until the next one

9) Something that inspired your writing:

Led(2018), as well as a lot of music. pretty much all the songs that inspired me to write FaT can be found on these playlists, even though they’re still being updated.

10) Your proudest accomplishment (that one scene; finally finishing that one fic; posting your first fic; etc):

posting my first fic. ever since i started reading it way back in 2014, fanfiction was my guilty pleasure. thankfully, i’ve overcome the “guilty” part of it and now i just freely let myself enjoy reading/writing it. getting to share it with others is inexplicably wonderful.

11) Do you have any writing goals for the next year?

finishing Freeze and Thaw by the end of high school. my college entrance exams start in june, so in perspective it seems somewhat unrealistic with my current schedule, but hey, a girl can dream :D if not by june, then just finishing it in general is a good goal. then again, through interacting with this fandom, i’ve grown so attached to it that i’m nervous about the day i post the final chapter ^^’

First, I wanna say thank you to @lisathefan for tagging me 🥺 Onto my answers!!

3. Your most popular fic:

According to Ao3, it's First Family Game Night which makes me super happy because I had so much fun typing this one up

4. Your personal fav:

Ahh it's caught between First Family Game Night and Please, Just for Tonight. There's one scene in particular for FFGN that makes me die from laughing which was my whole reason to writing it this fic in the first place.

In Please, Just for Tonight, having Blossom unravel and come down from her high horse for a night is *chef's kiss*

5. your fav scene:

Like the last question, without too many details- Butch gets injured. Blossom sneaking out to hang out with Brick.

6. a fic or scene that challenged you:

In Please, Just for Tonight, trying to really paint that image of how Townsville looked from where Brick parked and the energy they both felt in the car that night. I could feel it and envision it but putting it into actual words so that the reader could get a similar feeling was so painstakingly complicated. I really wanted it to come out amazing

7. A line (lines) you are proud of:

Blossom straddled his lap, wrapping her arms around his neck, “Duh, I have to give you that rant. It’s part of my job. I’m not going to turn down a perfectly good date.”

8. A comment that touched you:

It's under Please, Just for Tonight. The commenter picked all of their favorite lines and parts. It was just super heartwarming for me especially because I still wouldn't consider it a good piece of writing. They were just super enthusiastic and I was like 🥺😭 thank you

9. Something (someone) that inspired your writing:

SBJ's work really pushed me to start writing fanfic. I was super nervous (still am) to write fiction again after so many years. I can get really into my head and that's what stops me from posting anything more often than not.

Reading SBJ and @renaerys work just really motivated me to fall in love with characters and adding my own flare to them

10. Your proudest accomplishment (that one scene; finally finishing that one fic; posting your first fic; etc.):

My proudest fic is actually Boomer's Day bc it was my first fic and while it's definitely not popular, it meant a lot for me to post it. Also, i have a bunch of little one shots in my draft like this because it helps me to add to the character in a free space and "get to know them better".

11. Do you have any writing goals for the next year?

Lmaoooo ACTUALLY POST SOMETHING!

Also, it'd be really nice if I could work on my writing skills like description and scene building like I said last July

Anyway this was really fun and a good reminder for myself so I'm gonna go ahead and tag @bananaaaasay @renaerys @madamefist to do this next
