a friend of mine who's never really been into languages said they want to try learn Italian this year. and my immediate thought was "yes ! then I'll finally know what @geschiedenis-en-talen and @linguenuvolose are saying !" because that's more important than understanding L'Orfeo or reading La vita nuova in the original

* “taal” is a feminine word but no one knows that. We knows it’s not referred to as “het” because the article is “de” and “het” is used to refer to neuter words, but because we usually don’t know whether a word is feminine or masculine (so we don’t know if we should refer to it by “hem” or “haar”), we often use a sentence structure that avoids demonstrative pronouns (I think that’s what they’re called in English? “Verwijzende voornaamwoorden” in Dutch for reference). It’s a weird quirk of the Dutch language, we still do have some distinction between feminine and masculine words but it’s fading away (it’s stronger in (at least Brabantian) dialects though).
It’s ma homegirl practicing her Dutch, we love to see that! Your text is understandable but there are several mistakes in word order and conjugation of verbs. I believe in Sweden all verbs in the perfekt particip take “ha” but you have to keep in mind that in Dutch several verbs take “zijn”, although I believe most do take “hebben”. After “want”, the sentence structure is different than after “omdat”. You’d say “want een vriendin en ik wilden naar Nederland gaan” and “want ik vind het een heel mooie en grappige taal”. The word order you used here is correct for “omdat”. I can’t quite put my finger on why but “omdat” sounds better in both cases here anyway. Your vocabulary is perfect in this text (aside from the want/omdat thing but that’s quite intricate) so if this is a good indication of your abilities I think your focus should be on grammar.

Hej!

You’re the kind Czech friend mutual! Recently I’ve been really thinking about how much I appreciate you always commenting stuff on mine and other mutuals’ posts, it’s really lovely and sweet! I also think about the first time you messaged me (asking me what made me learn the languages I’m learning if I remember correctly?), idk why but that has stuck in my head. You’re also the good at Swedish, vegan and nature mutual!
💛💛 thank you so much Ida. I like commenting on people's posts and I started doing it partly because I don't “like” stuff as a form of showing I like the content, I usually like posts so I can save them for later. So I started commenting instead, so that people know I appreciate their posts. But I also think it's a really important “community” kind of thing and I'm always so happy when people comment mine or each other's posts.
Oh yeah, I think asking you what made you learn your languages sounds very me. I remember looking up to you so much all these years ago (I still do).
Good at Swedish, vegan and nature mutual are three things I love to be! Thank you for this, it made me really happy.
